spk_0 I just think it's one of the best horror movies you could go with

spk_0 This is not the perfect found footage or movie to show somebody

spk_0 They're going to watch this and say oh, that was really stupid

spk_0 So you look at the first movie and you've got the radio silence guys

spk_0 So on one hand, yeah, you got the camp, you got the goofs

spk_0 I don't know if any of that is in VHS Halloween

spk_0 But there was some cool stuff in it

spk_0 So I mean, let's just start from the beginning

spk_0 From the beginning of each of these movies you get the through plot

spk_0 But what I really did not like about this was that the through plot had nothing to do with the rest of the movies

spk_0 This was not really much of an anthology like I'm used to this series being

spk_0 And I don't remember if any of the most recent ones were like that or not

spk_0 But like the first couple

spk_0 The whole the through plot was somebody finding all of these tapes and watching them in each tape was one of these different stories, right?

spk_0 Yeah, it's like a story and cells weren't really connected

spk_0 But the watching of the stories was connected

spk_0 Yeah, there's always a reason

spk_0 That wasn't the case here at all

spk_0 Spoilers obviously for the film that just came out eight hours ago

spk_0 But yeah, the through plot is pretty good

spk_0 But it's not connected at all to the segments

spk_0 I think it's because this is a Halloween themed VHS special

spk_0 It's this guy that's making a homemade haunted house with his family

spk_0 And when you come into it at first

spk_0 You're just kind of watching a videotape of a previous year

spk_0 When he was much younger

spk_0 And his son was much younger

spk_0 And the son was super into it

spk_0 And then it zooms out

spk_0 And you meet the older version of the son Zackie

spk_0 And you realize that he actually does not care about this

spk_0 And he's filming everything right

spk_0 So he convinces his wife

spk_0 To talk to Zachy

spk_0 And do it at least for one more year

spk_0 So Keith and Zachy hop in the car

spk_0 And they go to this

spk_0 I think it was an antique store

spk_0 Right

spk_0 So they're just looking for props

spk_0 And stuff to put into the

spk_0 The haunted house

spk_0 And

spk_0 Keith ends up going into a room

spk_0 That's labeled staff only

spk_0 And there's a bunch of like weird creepy shit in there

spk_0 Right?

spk_0 Keith by the way, if I can segway for a second

spk_0 Keith is at this point Keith has earned the name Keith

spk_0 Because the shopkeeper says, hey, I thought I told you Keith

spk_0 And he's like, oh, so sorry

spk_0 Like dude's an absolute jerk

spk_0 And then goes to his section that says staff only

spk_0 And says, now you're keeping the good stuff back here

spk_0 Takes the sign down, says oops

spk_0 And if we saw anything in this segment, it was the good stuff

spk_0 Yeah

spk_0 So he's looking through all this stuff

spk_0 And he finds this old Halloween record

spk_0 What did it say, Curse?

spk_0 At the top

spk_0 Normally where it would say like recorded in surround sound

spk_0 Curse and stereo, Curse this is Curse and surround stereo

spk_0 It's so cool

spk_0 But you know, like he takes this record

spk_0 And it has like an old cartoony, Halloween kind of cover

spk_0 And it's just death and...

spk_0 It's like zombies eating the guts of children

spk_0 Exactly

spk_0 And another through line

spk_0 Okay, so what you said earlier about all of the dead kids in this movie

spk_0 They acknowledge it

spk_0 They make it meta

spk_0 Because Zachy looks at the thing of the record

spk_0 And says

spk_0 Something like lots of dead kids on here

spk_0 And it's just like this big Styrofoam haunted house, it's crazy

spk_0 The record kind of like brings everything to life

spk_0 And it starts to kill everybody that went in

spk_0 It was lots of blood from the first start of that

spk_0 I love the first kill that happens

spk_0 Where it's this like they're in this fake graveyard

spk_0 And these like goofy like

spk_0 Sheet ghosts pop up

spk_0 And this guy who's just there to make fun of Keith

spk_0 Says this place is these look like shit Keith

spk_0 That looks like shit

spk_0 And then another one floats up behind him

spk_0 And Keith like, yo that's not mine

spk_0 And this thing drapes over this old man

spk_0 And twist him up

spk_0 And then the blood sprays out of its face

spk_0 And then the blood sprays out of the ghost face

spk_0 That was sick

spk_0 Such a good like a great kill

spk_0 Covers the entire group in blood

spk_0 And they just start running through the fucking house

spk_0 And then you know everyone's trying to escape and everything

spk_0 And then they may get to the execution room

spk_0 That girl gets the electric chair

spk_0 And then the mom

spk_0 Super bad ass by the day

spk_0 She fucked up the executioner

spk_0 She takes the axe and like guts in

spk_0 And then he gets him right in the like in the stomach

spk_0 And then cuts his head off

spk_0 Like does she she's a bad ass for the rest of it too

spk_0 Yeah, she keeps doing that maternal instincts

spk_0 He's like I have to turn my back

spk_0 She's trying to say Zach

spk_0 And then at the very end of it

spk_0 It's kind of like this giant monster head, right?

spk_0 That kind of comes alive

spk_0 And then you see two hands come up and grab the walls

spk_0 It's probably a coincidence

spk_0 But I saw at least two goosebumps references

spk_0 Within this haunted house

spk_0 Yeah, being one of them

spk_0 It's just like the cover from Welcome to Horland

spk_0 And then the executioner room

spk_0 Nine-in-Tarred Tower

spk_0 Oh, yes, exactly

spk_0 Yeah, there might have been more in there

spk_0 I'll have to look back and watch it again

spk_0 To see if maybe they did that intentionally

spk_0 But I even thought that in the beginning

spk_0 Whenever they showed just the front of the haunted house

spk_0 Honestly, the vibe would feel

spk_0 I think the original segment starts in like 1987

spk_0 And then at time jumps about like five or six years

spk_0 Right, and it's like so it's definitely early mid-90s

spk_0 Which is like goosebumps era for sure

spk_0 Yeah, so that was definitely my favorite segment of the whole

spk_0 Of the whole VHS Halloween

spk_0 It was solid, I really liked it

spk_0 And pales a kid in a mummy costume flies up

spk_0 The whole thing was just crazy

spk_0 So the witch ends up on the broom with the camera

spk_0 I think they do, I think they get out and run away

spk_0 They're just adults that are trick or treating

spk_0 And they go to this house that has this big bowl with these weird candy

spk_0 That no one's ever heard of

spk_0 We thought it was like AI slop

spk_0 And to be fair all of the rappers and stuff like

spk_0 Those definitely look AI generated

spk_0 Like the names are all messed up

spk_0 It's super weird

spk_0 I think there is some sort of underlying AI commentary

spk_0 And then when they turn around and look back at the house

spk_0 Like we need to like try to find this kid

spk_0 And he's like yeah, of course

spk_0 Again, we're over here thinking

spk_0 This dude is probably the

spk_0 Probably the killer

spk_0 So we're like okay, he's going to go back to his store

spk_0 He's going to open up shop and they're just going to be in a basement or something

spk_0 And he's going to be like

spk_0 Showed up kids

spk_0 No dude, he shows up and he's fucking shocked

spk_0 That like crazy tapes are playing on the videos and the back

spk_0 And it's like all the kids

spk_0 Yep, in front of the kid print wall

spk_0 And then we see Bruce

spk_0 You're rooting for them and then it cuts the next scene

spk_0 And then one of the girls knocks the basket out

spk_0 And then the fetus spills out

spk_0 Then boom there's a fetus

spk_0 There's just a wriggling fetus

spk_0 And then they both realize

spk_0 This isn't a haunted house

spk_0 We need to leave

spk_0 I will say and the thing that bugged me about this sketch was

spk_0 I hate when found footage films

spk_0 Do this thing where they put the fake artifacts

spk_0 Into an artifacts for VHS

spk_0 Or like whenever there's like
