Are you in the trenches of building a business?
spk_0
And maybe you are early on,
spk_0
but maybe you've been in the game for a long time
spk_0
and you feel worn out, tapped out,
spk_0
and burnout is right around the corner.
spk_0
But you really don't want to quit,
spk_0
but you feel like it might just be inevitable.
spk_0
Well, in this video, I wanna give you
spk_0
some principles and some things that I've learned
spk_0
and it's actually specifically four shifts
spk_0
that you can make for a complete life intervention
spk_0
so that you can stay in the game for the long haul.
spk_0
Do you ever notice any new up-and-coming entrepreneurs
spk_0
or new up-and-coming artists and you think,
spk_0
wow, they really come out of nowhere.
spk_0
They've really blown up.
spk_0
They are an overnight success.
spk_0
And then you start to do a little bit of research
spk_0
and you find, wow, you know what?
spk_0
They're not as much as an overnight success as I thought.
spk_0
They actually have been in the game for a decade.
spk_0
They've had a 10-year run rate
spk_0
and it's just now catching up all of the sudden.
spk_0
I think about Brooke Castillo,
spk_0
she is the founder of the Life Coach School
spk_0
and it was a well over $50 million business.
spk_0
But before she even started the Life Coach School,
spk_0
she was a Life Coach for nine years.
spk_0
I think about Sarah Blakely who is the founder of Spanx.
spk_0
I think it was like a billion dollars,
spk_0
maybe more than a billion.
spk_0
And she was really working undercover for seven years
spk_0
before she got any national attention at all.
spk_0
James Clear, who is the author of Atomic Habits,
spk_0
which is a book that has changed so many people's lives,
spk_0
he wrote 5,840 blog posts before he even started writing
spk_0
Atomic Habits.
spk_0
So what do most of these successful people have a comment?
spk_0
Well, they are able to stay in the game for the long haul.
spk_0
Alex Hermosey has a quote that says,
spk_0
if you have a clear goal, a quick feedback loop
spk_0
and a long enough time horizons, you cannot lose.
spk_0
You can't lose.
spk_0
And when I heard that formula,
spk_0
my thought, I honestly thought about baking a cake.
spk_0
I was like, okay, when you're baking a cake,
spk_0
you have to have the clear goal.
spk_0
Like what is the point of the cake?
spk_0
Is it a birthday cake?
spk_0
Is it a wedding cake?
spk_0
Is it a home-bed cake?
spk_0
What is the point?
spk_0
A quick feedback loop, which is the taste testing,
spk_0
and then it has to stay in the oven long enough.
spk_0
If you take it out too early, it ends up being gooey
spk_0
and there's no structure you're keeping,
spk_0
but icing on it and nobody can enjoy it.
spk_0
So the question is, how can you stay in the game long enough
spk_0
to really see the cake come to fruition?
spk_0
When you think about a tree,
spk_0
a tree doesn't survive because it grows really fast.
spk_0
It survives because it grows deep.
spk_0
And so there's a little bit of speed
spk_0
that I do think is important in entrepreneurship,
spk_0
but then there's also depth.
spk_0
And I don't think those two things go together,
spk_0
but they are both equally important.
spk_0
Like wealth really does love speed.
spk_0
Action takers are money makers.
spk_0
The most successful people that I personally know,
spk_0
they move fast.
spk_0
They make decisions fast.
spk_0
They implement fast.
spk_0
And also there is another muscle that needs to be built,
spk_0
which is a longevity muscle.
spk_0
Now I'm young.
spk_0
I like to save it.
spk_0
I'm young.
spk_0
I'm 33.
spk_0
I have two kids, one on the way,
spk_0
I have a four year old and I have a two year old.
spk_0
And I have every intention of being in this game
spk_0
until I'm 90.
spk_0
I actually was recently on an airplane.
spk_0
I'm here in New Jersey right now.
spk_0
We have a sales girl in her circle
spk_0
and we are at our mastermind retreat.
spk_0
And there was a man on a plane next to me
spk_0
and we kind of got a conversation
spk_0
and I was working and he kind of asked me,
spk_0
he was like, hey, what's your plan?
spk_0
You know, yeah, you're gonna have this baby.
spk_0
Are you gonna keep doing this?
spk_0
And my gut reaction was like,
spk_0
what are you talking about?
spk_0
Like I'm gonna be 90 years old with a walker
spk_0
on stage teaching women how to sell.
spk_0
Like that is my gut reaction
spk_0
when I think about my future.
spk_0
And also, like if that is gonna be the clear goal,
spk_0
I have to re-engineer maybe how I do things
spk_0
in my whole life to be able to make sure
spk_0
that I'm built for longevity
spk_0
and also can increase speed as needed.
spk_0
Now, I obviously can't really speak to longevity
spk_0
because I'm not 90 years old yet.
spk_0
But what I love to do when I'm trying to learn about concepts
spk_0
that I haven't experienced yet
spk_0
but I really want as much wisdom as I can get
spk_0
is I will learn things through nature,
spk_0
things through like seasons and weather and animals.
spk_0
I really believe God has created this earth in a way
spk_0
where there are so many principles hidden
spk_0
within how he designed things.
spk_0
And so today, when I wanna share with you
spk_0
are four things that I learned about longevity
spk_0
through searching through the principles of building a fire.
spk_0
And hopefully it'll help you redesign your life
spk_0
for the long haul.
spk_0
So what initially had me start looking into building fires
spk_0
was I actually thought about survival
spk_0
and I thought, okay, if someone dropped me off
spk_0
in the middle of nowhere and said,
spk_0
you had to survive the first thing
spk_0
that I would probably wanna do is build a fire.
spk_0
Now, I'm no Girl Scout.
spk_0
And so I did some research on, okay,
spk_0
are there different types of fires?
spk_0
Like are there certain techniques and skills
spk_0
to be able to build a fire that lasts?
spk_0
It turns out there is.
spk_0
There are a lot of things that you can do
spk_0
to make sure a fire lasts for a long time.
spk_0
Now, the length of a long campfire
spk_0
would be about 12 hours long
spk_0
and be considered a long fire.
spk_0
But there's actually fires that have existed for decades.
spk_0
In fact, the longest lasting fire
spk_0
that has ever existed is actually in Australia.
spk_0
It's an underground coal fire
spk_0
that has been going on for 6,000 years straight.
spk_0
It's incredible, right?
spk_0
So here are the four things that you do
spk_0
to build a long lasting fire.
spk_0
And then I'm gonna tell you exactly how
spk_0
I think it can apply to your life and business.
spk_0
If step one is to kindle fire.
spk_0
So kindling is taking the dry sticks and dry leaves
spk_0
and rubbing them together like this.
spk_0
This is the high energy.
spk_0
This is the momentum.
spk_0
This is the adrenaline that really creates the spark.
spk_0
This is the excitement.
spk_0
I joke and I like to say selling is my drug of choice
spk_0
because of this right here.
spk_0
It just builds so much energy.
spk_0
Now, the kindling is very, very important
spk_0
for starting a fire, but it is not enough for it to last.
spk_0
That spark is just a spark.
spk_0
It's just what gets it going.
spk_0
Now, this one thing about kindling,
spk_0
like that, when I think about kindling,
spk_0
I think about how wealth loves speed.
spk_0
Like that is the speed element of entrepreneurship.
spk_0
And sometimes I find especially women entrepreneurs
spk_0
is they are really resisting like the grind
spk_0
and the hustle culture.
spk_0
And they really want to be in a soft era.
spk_0
And listen, I get it.
spk_0
Like I couldn't be more soft era in my life right now.
spk_0
I have my third baby on the way.
spk_0
I'm navigating a lot of things.
spk_0
I totally understand.
spk_0
But you really are not exempt from this kindling stage.
spk_0
That energy, that momentum really requires
spk_0
a lot of energy at first to get the momentum going.
spk_0
Now, want to get that spark.
spk_0
And once you get that kindle going,
spk_0
then we go into step two, which is, are you ready?
spk_0
Lay down logs.
spk_0
I know you're like, wow, Macy, you're so smart.
spk_0
Good job. You actually had to look that up.
spk_0
Yes, I did.
spk_0
I had to look up to lay down logs once a fire has been kindled.
spk_0
But it's actually much more interesting than you think
spk_0
because you want to lay down dense logs.
spk_0
Now, when you lay down a dense log,
spk_0
it actually takes a long time to catch fire.
spk_0
I haven't started, might come to your surprise by you,
spk_0
but I haven't really started a fire or created fire
spk_0
in a long time.
spk_0
It's been years and years.
spk_0
But I do have a vague memory of throwing logs on a fire
spk_0
and I thinking, like, why aren't they catching fire?
spk_0
Like, they're dry, they're literally in fire.
spk_0
There is no reason why they should not be catching fire.
spk_0
But when logs are dense, they can be hard to cut through.
spk_0
And so when I was thinking about, okay,
spk_0
how does logs apply to lies?
spk_0
I was thinking about a few, quite a few things.
spk_0
I was thinking about habits.
spk_0
This episode of School of Sales is brought to you

Skill sets and also things to release.
spk_0
So let's start with habits.
spk_0
Habits, like, they can be very, very challenging
spk_0
to catch on in life.
spk_0
It could be as simple as drinking more water
spk_0
or exercising or reading every day.
spk_0
It's like it feels so frustrating
spk_0
that it's not a part of your life.
spk_0
It hasn't caught fire.
spk_0
But when you stick with it long enough,
spk_0
once it catches fire, it's going to be a lot of fun.
spk_0
spk_0
You can't even get it back the way you used to.
spk_0
You can't even remember your life the way you used to be.
spk_0
I like to think about people who are runners.
spk_0
I used to be a really big runner.
spk_0
I was the person that would run 20 miles before work
spk_0
in the morning.
spk_0
I know crazy now that I think about it.
spk_0
But I remember going out for a run
spk_0
and like when I was first learning how to run
spk_0
and it was just like so painful, right?
spk_0
It was like, I don't know what trail to run on.
spk_0
My knee is kind of hurt.
spk_0
How do I carry my water?
spk_0
This is so kind of scary.
spk_0
I want people to be able to find me.
spk_0
How do I hold my phone?
spk_0
There's like all these things that felt so hard.
spk_0
But the more that you run and you run every single day,
spk_0
what ends up happening is you become someone
spk_0
in which it is easier to run than it is not to run.
spk_0
You become someone who initially goes on a run
spk_0
to run five miles, but you end up running eight
spk_0
because you just can't help it.
spk_0
It's just who you are.
spk_0
It is caught fire so much that there's no turning back.
spk_0
And that's what happens when you build habits.
spk_0
It's like, oh my gosh, this is so who I am.
spk_0
I cannot turn around.
spk_0
Now I want to talk about skill sets.
spk_0
So skill sets are incredibly challenging to master.
spk_0
And I think this is a critical piece right here.
spk_0
Most people are learning skill sets,
spk_0
just to kind of know they aren't learning skill sets
spk_0
to master.
spk_0
And mastery, it really and truly does take time, energy,
spk_0
and attention.
spk_0
It's funny I was on a coaching call one time.
spk_0
Someone reminded me of this actually just yesterday.
spk_0
She was like, yeah, I remember you coaching somebody
spk_0
and their first response back to you was, man, this is so hard.
spk_0
And your response was, well, yeah, of course,
spk_0
you learned it five minutes ago.
spk_0
Like things really do take so much time
spk_0
and attention and energy for it to be not just something
spk_0
that you know, but a no wing.
spk_0
Two very, very different things.
spk_0
And I think like a really tangible way
spk_0
to think about this is like how to catch,
spk_0
as if you were to lay a skill set log on your fire,
spk_0
how to make sure that skill set log catches fire
spk_0
is to dedicate two hours of your morning
spk_0
every single day to that skill set,
spk_0
to learning, to practicing, to mastering,
spk_0
so that eventually when it catches fire,
spk_0
it's just a part of who you are.
spk_0
You can do it on autopilot.
spk_0
Another thing that's kind of cool about skill sets
spk_0
as you are developing them and hoping that they catch fire
spk_0
is that even if they don't catch fire right away,
spk_0
there are still some sparks.
spk_0
I wanna give you an example.
spk_0
So one of the skill sets that I am really trying to catch fire
spk_0
and get momentum in is YouTube.
spk_0
And it's something that it really is a totally different skill
spk_0
set that I feel almost frustrated with.
spk_0
Every time I go to sit down to record a video
spk_0
or to write a video, it's like my brain is,
spk_0
it just feels like mush, it feels very hard.
spk_0
And what's interesting is I actually just had a sales event
spk_0
recently and in the sales event,
spk_0
three people told me that they found me,
spk_0
they discovered me on YouTube,
spk_0
which I don't know if anyone has ever really told me,
spk_0
like it just blew my mind that they discovered me on YouTube.
spk_0
And I think one of those people ended up
spk_0
in ruling our program.
spk_0
And it was such a just encouraging feeling.
spk_0
So I was like, okay, even though it's hard,
spk_0
even though there's not momentum in my heart,
spk_0
I don't feel that way.
spk_0
There's not momentum yet.
spk_0
It hasn't caught fire, there are still sparks.
spk_0
There's still a byproduct of the work
spk_0
and so you can be really encouraged by that.
spk_0
The other final log I wanna talk about
spk_0
is things that you release.
spk_0
And I think this is especially true for us
spk_0
that are coming from step one, which is kindling, right?
spk_0
Like all that kindling, it has worked.
spk_0
All that energy, it has worked.
spk_0
All that hard work, it has worked.
spk_0
But it is true that what got you here
spk_0
won't get you there.
spk_0
And so when you come to this step two,
spk_0
one of the things that you might have to release
spk_0
is some of the things that we're working
spk_0
when you were kindling.
spk_0
And this can be very, very challenging
spk_0
because you are so reliant on some of the high energy
spk_0
things that you've done,
spk_0
but it's not something that you can carry on
spk_0
for the long haul.
spk_0
I recently heard a quote that said,
spk_0
if hard work was the answer,
spk_0
then the donkey would own the farm.
spk_0
Isn't that crazy?
spk_0
Like if hard work was the answer,
spk_0
then the donkey, the one that works the hardest
spk_0
would own everything, but that's not true.
spk_0
The donkey is the one that does all the hard work
spk_0
so that the owner doesn't have to do the hard work.
spk_0
So really learning what needs to be let go
spk_0
and kind of changing your identity
spk_0
is a very, very challenging log,
spk_0
log that absolutely needs to be laid.
spk_0
All right, so step one was kindling.
spk_0
Step two was laying those logs and being patient enough
spk_0
for them to actually catch fire.
spk_0
Now step three is all about airflow.
spk_0
It's all about circulation.
spk_0
So what's interesting about fires is that
spk_0
you can't just lay logs one on top of the other.
spk_0
You want to create space in between the logs.
spk_0
So that there can be airflow and circulation
spk_0
that happens in between the logs.
spk_0
I think it's so easy to think just like more,
spk_0
if I do more, more, more, the answer is gonna be gross.
spk_0
But Craig Groschell says that growth creates complexity,
spk_0
but then complexity kills growth.
spk_0
And more inevitably is going to create complexity.
spk_0
So how can we really create space within our life
spk_0
and with our business?
spk_0
So that, I think ultimately, ultimately,
spk_0
like the goal here is to experience circulation
spk_0
and to experience movement within the fire.
spk_0
Like I think about like, you know,
spk_0
when you start a fire, like the best thing
spk_0
that you can do, one of the best things you can do
spk_0
is lean over to get big inhale and exhale,
spk_0
blow some air on the fire so that it experiences
spk_0
that circulation, you know, like in building businesses
spk_0
and in this journey of entrepreneurship,
spk_0
there's a lot of emotions that happen.
spk_0
If you know, you know, I am here with our mastermind girls,
spk_0
they are incredibly successful.
spk_0
They are making so much money.
spk_0
They are winning really big and they're experiencing
spk_0
a lot of fear and frustration and confusion and overwhelm.
spk_0
And what's important with emotions
spk_0
and remembering what emotions are is that it's just energy.
spk_0
And energy, it cannot be created or destroyed,
spk_0
but it can change form.
spk_0
So if there is a fear energy within you,
spk_0
you can easily turn that into excitement.
spk_0
In fact, in the book, The Big Leap,
spk_0
Gay Hendrick says fear is just excitement
spk_0
without the breath.
spk_0
So like literally experiencing an emotion
spk_0
and having this deep breath and creating space
spk_0
so that you can create breath can truly turn
spk_0
something like fear into excitement,
spk_0
encourage and determination.
spk_0
Another thing that I think is really critical to think about,
spk_0
when you think about circulating and creating space
spk_0
for air to get through,
spk_0
is circulating the people in your life.
spk_0
Oh my gosh, you know, I hear people all the time say,
spk_0
all these are my friends from high school.
spk_0
These are my friends, I've had them since middle school
spk_0
and I can understand the sentiment of that,
spk_0
but in my opinion, that is simply not a flex.
spk_0
You want to circulate people in your life.
spk_0
Tony Robbins says, if you want to emulate someone's life,
spk_0
you need to emulate three things.
spk_0
Emulate their beliefs, which are really like the thoughts
spk_0
that they think.
spk_0
Emulate their mental syntax.
spk_0
What does that mean?
spk_0
That means the order in which they think through,
spk_0
like how their thoughts process
spk_0
and thirdly, their physiology, how they carry themselves.
spk_0
I actually made an investment in the business.
spk_0
It was a $350,000 coaching program.
spk_0
It was with Mr. Meiring Golden
spk_0
and it was one of the scariest
spk_0
most intense experiences of my life
spk_0
was to spend $350,000 on a coaching program.
spk_0
Like I had never done that before,
spk_0
but what ended up happening is I actually went to an event
spk_0
and I was surrounded by all of these people
spk_0
that believed making money was easy,
spk_0
that believed making money was fun.
spk_0
They had such a light presence about them
spk_0
and I always thought if you made a ton of money,
spk_0
things would be harder, but by being around them,
spk_0
I saw, oh, when you make a lot of money,
spk_0
like things can be fun and light and easy
spk_0
and after making that $350,000 investment,
spk_0
flying to this group of people
spk_0
and experiencing them and meeting them within two weeks,
spk_0
that $350,000 investment was made back.
spk_0
In fact, we made $355,000 in a single week
spk_0
from simply circulating people.
spk_0
And that really kind of brings me
spk_0
to my last thought about circulating is really circulating money.
spk_0
I think people, when I think about investing in programs,
spk_0
investing in coaching, investing in their business,
spk_0
they think, oh, I'm spending money.
spk_0
No, you're not spending money, you're circulating money.
spk_0
Money is meant to come in and out,
spk_0
is meant to be used as a tool to really leverage you,
spk_0
leverage your time and your energy
spk_0
and the people who are so stagnant and close-handed
spk_0
with money and with people and with their mindsets.
spk_0
That is when they really are stagnant,
spk_0
the logs want on top of the other
spk_0
and that is when the fire starts to suffocate.
spk_0
All right, let's move to the four and final step
spk_0
for full-life intervention, which is,
spk_0
are you ready, drum roll?
spk_0
Don't abandon it.
spk_0
Don't abandon the fire.
spk_0
Don't abandon the business.
spk_0
Now, you're probably thinking, obviously,
spk_0
may see, I think about the business all day every day.
spk_0
I can never just abandon it.
spk_0
But I think what you want to think about is
spk_0
really watching it, protecting it and stirring it.
spk_0
So how do you watch your business?
spk_0
I know for me, and this is something
spk_0
that I'm really working on,
spk_0
is actually watching the data,
spk_0
making data-driven decisions not gut decisions,
spk_0
but actually looking at the numbers.
spk_0
I know sometimes for me, like when I think about
spk_0
the backend of the business and the data
spk_0
and the numbers and the funnels and the pages,
spk_0
it feels like the junk tour in my house.
spk_0
Like, it's just the drawer that everything goes in
spk_0
and we'll clean it later.
spk_0
But really watching, like, okay,
spk_0
what is the number that matters the most?
spk_0
And how can we all obsess with that one number?
spk_0
Because that one number is right.

Right, that one lead number is right.
spk_0
Or if that one YouTube subscriber is right,
spk_0
or if that one, you know,
spk_0
fails a bit, take it number is right,
spk_0
then everything else shakes out.
spk_0
Having that be the focus for the whole team,
spk_0
it's really, really critical.
spk_0
So that's what we're working on.
spk_0
The next thing is really to think about protecting it.
spk_0
So I think specifically as women,
spk_0
we are really thinking about protecting relationships
spk_0
more than protecting the business
spk_0
and doing what the business needs.
spk_0
And I actually have a coach right now, a leadership coach,
spk_0
and she's always reminding me and helping me see,
spk_0
like, hey, you were kind of slipping into,
spk_0
like, thinking as a friend versus thinking like
spk_0
the person whose job it is is to protect the asset.
spk_0
And that has been a really interesting transition
spk_0
for me personally to think about the guard of the business
spk_0
more than anything else.
spk_0
Lastly, like, stirring the fire.
spk_0
So you have to poke and prod the fire
spk_0
in order to keep it alive.
spk_0
And the way I think about this with business,
spk_0
or the way that I'm choosing to think about this
spk_0
with business is, you know,
spk_0
sometimes you aren't stirring the fire voluntarily, okay?
spk_0
But life will stir the fire for you.
spk_0
Life will throw circumstances for you that feels jolting.
spk_0
And you can look at it as life is kind of like attacking you,
spk_0
right?
spk_0
All these circumstances are coming at you
spk_0
and they are challenging you.
spk_0
Or you can look at it as like, wow,
spk_0
this is really making me level up.
spk_0
And these circumstances could be lots of different things.
spk_0
It could be bringing a baby into the world.
spk_0
It could be losing a very critical team member.
spk_0
It could be clients that are unhappy
spk_0
and they are talking about you.
spk_0
It could be all kinds of things that feel like
spk_0
they are stirring you in the wrong way.
spk_0
But I think you could really look at it
spk_0
as how this is going to refine you in the right way.
spk_0
If you enjoyed these four moves to help you
spk_0
experience a life intervention,
spk_0
I want to invite you to the Sell Your Offer Challenge.
spk_0
This is a five day challenge to help you learn
spk_0
some communication frameworks so that you can communicate
spk_0
about your offer seamlessly.
spk_0
And you do it in a way that makes people
spk_0
actually want to buy from you versus you begging them to buy.
spk_0
And as I was learning about fires
spk_0
and I was learning about these four steps,
spk_0
I couldn't help but mirror it to the challenge.
spk_0
It's a really set up for you to build that sales fire
spk_0
for you in your business.
spk_0
So for example, step one is to Kendall.
spk_0
It's five days.
spk_0
It's five days of focus, five days of momentum,
spk_0
and five days of structure for you to Kendall
spk_0
and get that spark.
spk_0
Next, laying logs.
spk_0
This is going to be dedicated time.
spk_0
It is a time of coaching and content
spk_0
where you are spent laying the log
spk_0
and giving it plenty of time for it
spk_0
to actually catch on fire.
spk_0
This isn't about a quick learn here and there.
spk_0
It's about, hey, how do I really fully understand
spk_0
the skill of selling so that I can ultimately master it?
spk_0
Next is to create space.
spk_0
One of the things that I think is really
spk_0
a game changing for people with a sell your offer challenges
spk_0
that it's a group experience.
spk_0
And it always surprises me how much people say
spk_0
that they enjoy being with other winners,
spk_0
being with people who think like them
spk_0
and believe like them and want to win like them.
spk_0
So you're going to create space
spk_0
and really circulate those people in your life.
spk_0
And lastly, you're going to tend to it.
spk_0
We're going to poke at it in the best way possible.
spk_0
One of the pokeings and one of the stirrings that happen
spk_0
is actually within the coaching.
spk_0
So there's a coaching hour when you buy the platinum ticket
spk_0
you're going to get life coaching for you in your business.
spk_0
And what we'll find is is like all the stuff
spk_0
will kind of start to surface of what is actually
spk_0
the problem that you're facing.
spk_0
What are the iterations and the tweaks
spk_0
that you can make within your communication
spk_0
and how to iterate so that you are improving?
spk_0
This challenge truly is transformational.
spk_0
In fact, here are just a few of the wins
spk_0
that people have had within the challenge.
spk_0
And I want to invite you and I cannot wait to see you there.
