spk_0 When I waver in cynicism that Christianity is good and beautiful and true, conferences
spk_0 like this remind me that it is and always will be.
spk_0 That's what one community leader said after attending our summit last year.
spk_0 At the annual for the good of the public summit, we consider ideas that lead to practical
spk_0 action, how to know and care for our neighbors, build stronger neighborhoods, fight poverty,
spk_0 pursue justice, and influence policy.
spk_0 We have confidence that Christians can help work on these issues and together we'll learn
spk_0 how.
spk_0 Join us October 20th and 21st in Washington, DC to learn more and register go to cc public
spk_0 life dot org slash summit.
spk_0 This is the morning five.
spk_0 I'm your host Michael Ware, president and CEO of the Center for Christianity and Public
spk_0 Life, giving you five minutes of news and scripture Mondays through Thursdays.
spk_0 Today is Tuesday October 7th, 2025.
spk_0 Let's open with scripture today.
spk_0 I'll read from Proverbs 3.
spk_0 Blessed are those who find wisdom.
spk_0 Those who gain understanding for she is more profitable than silver and yields better
spk_0 returns than gold.
spk_0 She is more precious than rubies.
spk_0 Nothing you desire can compare it with her.
spk_0 Long life is in her right hand, in her left hand are riches in honor.
spk_0 Her ways are pleasant ways and all her paths are peace.
spk_0 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her.
spk_0 Those who hold her fast will be blessed.
spk_0 May God bless the reading of his word.
spk_0 Good morning friends, you're listening to the morning five.
spk_0 I'm your host Michael Ware.
spk_0 Thanks for joining us.
spk_0 Let's get right to the news.
spk_0 First, the Supreme Court opened a new term yesterday with cases on a variety of topics
spk_0 ranging from birthright citizenship to tariffs.
spk_0 The docket for this term includes many cases around executive authority and present Trump's
spk_0 authority, such as his firing of independent agency heads and tariff implementation.
spk_0 Now, critically, as we've reported to you in previous months, Supreme Court has had
spk_0 a number of emergency orders, which is something they do when they're out of session.
spk_0 Now some of those cases are coming back through the court and decisions will be made.
spk_0 For example, the court will hear the case of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook.
spk_0 In August, President Trump tried to fire Lisa Cook for alleged mortgage fraud, but she was reinstated
spk_0 by a lower court.
spk_0 The Supreme Court will assess that case.
spk_0 Supreme Court will also hear cases not involving the executive branch, such as a case regarding
spk_0 transgender students in school sports and a case on campaign finance law.
spk_0 We will keep you updated both as these cases are heard by the Supreme Court and as decisions
spk_0 come out in the coming months.
spk_0 Second news item, the State of Illinois filed a lawsuit as expected against the Trump
spk_0 administration yesterday to block national guard troops from entering Chicago.
spk_0 We told yesterday about President Trump's plans to send California National Guard to Oregon.
spk_0 Now, Illinois is responding to Trump's move to send National Guard troops to Chicago.
spk_0 The Trump administration argues the troops are deployed to stop, quote, rioting and lawlessness.
spk_0 One administration representative stated, quote,
spk_0 President Trump will not turn a blind eye to the lawlessness plaguing American cities.
spk_0 Illinois suit argues that the deployment of federalized national guard, including from another state,
spk_0 infringes on Illinois sovereignty and right to self-governance.
spk_0 Illinois attorneys have argued that Chicago is not in a state of emergency or lawlessness that
spk_0 requires troops. This lawsuit follows district judge Karen Emmergut's temporary
spk_0 block on the deployment of National Guard troops to Portland. Again, as we reported yesterday.
spk_0 Final news item, today the Nobel Prize for Medicine was awarded on Monday to three scientists for
spk_0 their immunology research on regulatory T-cells. The research questions how the body fights
spk_0 pathogens but does not attack itself. The scientists found regulatory T-cells help regulate
spk_0 immune responses, which could have implications for autoimmune disease, cancer and allergy treatment.
spk_0 The three scientists, Mary Brunkow, Fred Ramsdale and Shimon Sakaguchi, began their work in the 1990s
spk_0 studying immune responses in mice. Steven Ziegler and immunologist remarked, quote,
spk_0 it's basically changed how we view the immune system referring to the awardees work.
spk_0 More Nobel prizes will be awarded this week, culminating in the Nobel Peace Prize announcement
spk_0 this Friday. All right, let's end it there for today and we'll close with prayer.
spk_0 Dear Father, always near us. May your name be treasured and loved. May your rule be completed in us.
spk_0 May your will be done here on earth and just the way it is done in heaven.
spk_0 Give us today the things we need today. Forgive us our sins and impositions on you as we are
spk_0 forgiving all who in any way offend us. Please don't put us through trials but deliver us from
spk_0 everything bad because you are the one in charge. You have all the power and the glory too is all
spk_0 yours forever, which is just the way we want it. All right friends, thank you for joining me today.
spk_0 As always, the Morning 5 has brought you in partnership with the That Sounds Fund Network,
