spk_0 And then they wrote the article and, oh, yeah.

spk_0 And Chad G.B.D. said, hey, we don't check facts.

spk_0 Well, yeah, because you would have to think if they most recognize will voice on earth, it

spk_0 can't be prior to Spotify.

spk_0 Because that one's, it can't, so it can't be like Michael Jackson.

spk_0 So it has to be post 2000s and then it has to be worldwide.

spk_0 People don't talk about that because you have these genres of music, but the church is everywhere

spk_0 And you do feel it and I think of all growing up, it was hill song and it was all the way

spk_0 in your shows and now you're like, well, this is kind of confusing.

spk_0 Well, I can tell you a little bit.

spk_0 I speak into that a little bit because Chris Martin the day before met with, I think the

spk_0 Grammy organization put together with some producers and artists and he met, he had a small

spk_0 And for music and he said, the hymns and he said it was in the church, going up to the

spk_0 church because that's always loved the way they made me feel.

spk_0 And he said, I want people to feel that when I see my music.

spk_0 And in fact, and we're going deep now, deep dive now.

spk_0 The last song on my new record I recorded is, is the hymns.

spk_0 The opening line of this is my father's world.

spk_0 It's one of the great hymns of the faith.

spk_0 This is my father's world.

spk_0 And to my listening ears, all nature sings and round me rings the music of the sphere.

spk_0 I know what even though it's the music of the sphere, it comes from 1880 something.

spk_0 I think there are to be a lot of, you're like, I want to, he's like, I want to make the

spk_0 feeling of the hymns and you're like, well, yeah, it's kind of the from God.

spk_0 That's kind of the thing you're missing here, but other than that, you can take, you can

spk_0 sample a little bit of it.

spk_0 Yeah, yeah.

spk_0 Yeah, it is very, it is a very, it is, yeah, similar to like seeing a great work of

spk_0 architecture or reading, it is a mirror of the image of God.

spk_0 Or people being in community and enjoying art, it's from the gifts are from God.

spk_0 So yeah, I think it's missing the main piece, but you feel parts of it.

spk_0 Sure it is, but you feel that it's there.

spk_0 Yeah, I was like, my fiance was laughing because she was, I was crying.

spk_0 She's like, are you laughing?

spk_0 Because that was too.

spk_0 Yeah, I was crying, but I go, she could, what are you crying?

spk_0 I go, I don't know.

spk_0 I don't know.

spk_0 I've just moved by this moment.

spk_0 Yeah, it's incredible, man.

spk_0 How was that like evolved for you through your career?

spk_0 Like what do you mean?

spk_0 Just how you feel like, how you feel music and where you feel music.

spk_0 Like you're talking about, you'll feel that at a cold play concert.

spk_0 Yes.

spk_0 Has it always, have you always been able to kind of pull that from places or?

spk_0 Well, for me, it's just, I've always wanted people to connect with God and, you know,

spk_0 in my songs and try to, and try to point them to the greater.

spk_0 I always say that if I, if my music can point people to the guy, kind of a greater story

spk_0 that's going on like this, that's what I think worship is so incredible.

spk_0 That's one of the music of worship is so different than any other music.

spk_0 And I don't say it's not saying it's better or anything like that, but it's different.

spk_0 It should be different because your soul is singing to a living God, if that makes sense.

spk_0 This is like a connection, the eternal connection that's happening.

spk_0 And so that's different than singing with the radio.

spk_0 That's different than just singing with a group of people.

spk_0 But when that, when you get to that place, you're like, wow, I think I really think my

spk_0 something is out of me is connecting to something way greater.

spk_0 That's, and then that's, you know, that's 20 people to worship God.

spk_0 And so I've always tried to grow in that, get better at that, and try to, that's my mission.

spk_0 When I walk on that stage, and my one thing is to hopefully help all this collective people

spk_0 to have an encounter with God.

spk_0 Yeah, I think that, yeah, I think, well, that's the, it's the unique experience

spk_0 because you do feel like you look at, look at a lot of the country artists that are great.

spk_0 Like you look at Morgune.

spk_0 He does, it does, it is greater than, it's not Christian, but it is greater than him.

spk_0 You know, he feel like maybe he's been canceled or, you know, he removes his songs from the

spk_0 Grammys.

spk_0 It's like maybe a Hollywood versus, or Zach Brian and the same, that were even Kenny Chesney.

spk_0 Where it's like this toes in the sand, where all I, it is something a little bit greater

spk_0 than just an exchange of chords.

spk_0 But when I think you involve the Christian aspect of it, it is like, yeah, amongst all generations

spk_0 everybody, and you're like, this is, yeah, speaking of Morgune, do you know him?

spk_0 Yeah, I do.

spk_0 Yeah, I don't know him, but I had one encounter and I was on the tour bus.

spk_0 I went on a tour with Florida Georgia Line, and we can talk about that.

spk_0 how much your music has meant to me for so long

spk_0 and it's just, I've always loved your songs

spk_0 I try to get you to play this night with me.

spk_0 I wrote you a letter, he goes, you did?

spk_0 And I was like, yes.

spk_0 good manager keeps it away, you know.

spk_0 I was like, he goes, no way.

spk_0 And he goes, well, we should

spk_0 this is all in 30 seconds of meeting him.

spk_0 this conference called Passion.

spk_0 I was a college student.

spk_0 And I was in there.

spk_0 And I was standing there and I,

spk_0 and I, he were up there playing.

spk_0 I thought, this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.

spk_0 And he goes, and then I get to,

spk_0 a Belmont start doing this,

spk_0 Bible study, and with this guy named BK,

spk_0 and we started doing this thing at Belmont.

spk_0 And we're, we're leading worship on ways he nights.

spk_0 And we're also riding country songs.

spk_0 And also, and the country thing,

spk_0 obviously blew up and that's been a thing.

spk_0 And he goes, man, my, I've just,

spk_0 fame and all the things.

spk_0 My, I've just swerved all around with my faith.

spk_0 But God's brought me back to this.

spk_0 Unbelievable place.

spk_0 I feel like so close.

spk_0 And he goes, and I walk in here,

spk_0 and you're staying here.

spk_0 I know God's speaking to me.

spk_0 And I think we're supposed to ride some songs.

spk_0 And I'm just like, this isn't one week.

spk_0 It's not about, it's not about, oh, I want to tell you a story about this or what's going

spk_0 on in my life, you know, but there are, I'll say there's, and when it comes to worship,

spk_0 there's really two kinds of, there's two kinds of songs I see.

spk_0 And this is getting a little bit, um, dive in deep, but, um, there's, I always say, because

spk_0 I look at the scriptures, right?

spk_0 And there's songs of transcendence and songs of deliverance.

spk_0 And what I mean by that is, is most of the songs, most of our songs, amazing grace,

spk_0 would be a song of deliverance.

spk_0 I, they saved a wretch like me.

spk_0 I, I need, Lord, I need you.

spk_0 I, I, I'm longing for you.

spk_0 I need you.

spk_0 A lot of the songs are that David wrote, you know, I'm in a tough place.

spk_0 Lord, I'm crying out to you.

spk_0 But then there's those songs of transcendence, which is a holy, holy, holy, the, those

spk_0 songs that are just completely, uh, there, that's, and that, those, that's the biggest

spk_0 distinct, distinctive of a worship song above all of the music.

spk_0 It's those songs because they take you to a place of like, there's nothing about me.

spk_0 It's nothing about any of us in this.

spk_0 This is about something so much greater and pointing us to something so much greater.

spk_0 I mean, pop doesn't do that.

spk_0 Hip hop doesn't, country doesn't do that.

spk_0 Even Christian music doesn't do that.

spk_0 But worship in these, those kind of songs, like what kind of songs?

spk_0 A holy, holy, holy song that is lower, God almighty, that one.

spk_0 You are, it's nothing about your personal struggles.

spk_0 It's nothing about our experience.

spk_0 Yeah, it's just like, it's worship.

spk_0 Yes, yes, yes.

spk_0 When I wrote, um, how great is our God, right?

spk_0 That's just about, there's, my God, the latest song, yeah, holy forever, that touches,

spk_0 there's something about it that touches that kind of, what I call the eternal song of praise,

spk_0 that the scripture says that they're in revelation.

spk_0 It says that there's a never ending song, which is amazing.

spk_0 It says that day and night, they never stop singing holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty

spk_0 who was and is and is to come.

spk_0 That is the, so when you kind of touch into that, I know it's super spiritual, but like,

spk_0 when you're touching into that kind of song of the people singing and around the, of people

spk_0 singing and connecting in that way, that's a distinctive marker among any music, right?

spk_0 You know, and that's what I'm always trying to strive for in songs and it's hopefully

spk_0 people connecting that way because I have found, I have found those songs, they change the

spk_0 room every time.

spk_0 There's, there's something about those songs where people are, they just engage in a different

spk_0 way because you're like collectively going, okay, this is, this is, I'm reminded of the

spk_0 greater story I'm in.

spk_0 I'm in a bigger story.

spk_0 This is small kingdom.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 I'm in a small kingdom down here in my little small kingdom in my small world.

spk_0 There's a bigger one going on and pointing people to that.

spk_0 I, I feel like when I, when I hear you say that, I feel like a lot of people are age.

spk_0 Alex is younger than me, but like, there's a lot of people that are disgruntled by the

spk_0 faith or maybe like this pastor has a private jet or, you know, all the, all the common

spk_0 complaints we hear all the time.

spk_0 And then I feel like you hear one of those and you go, gosh, I can't put it down.

spk_0 I can't, you know, everybody like, if you, I've talked about this all the time at the

spk_0 comedy club, you go to the comedy club, open mic tonight, there's 20 comedians, 18

spk_0 of them will have a joke about Jesus.

spk_0 Not, not in support.

spk_0 But it's like, we all grew up this way and you may be your pastor, embezzled money or

spk_0 you needed $85 million for a church or whatever that kind of sends people in it.

spk_0 But then neck, I feel like all the comics, like there's no jokes about a Buddha.

spk_0 I feel like all of us can't really lay our heads down and be like, I, or throwing all

spk_0 And you reminded of those, whatever that feeling is, and you go, they got to be something

spk_0 And you go, you just can't, like I feel like a lot of people that grew up in the faith

spk_0 can't put it to rest, meaning like I want to leave.

spk_0 I'm mad at a numerous things that are all valid.

spk_0 And we go, all right, well then throw it all out then.

spk_0 And they're just like, yeah, but I think it's true.

spk_0 I'm verbalizing what I, what they go.

spk_0 Jesus is, is, is, there's consequence, right?

spk_0 There he is the most important figure that's ever walked the earth and you have to, you

spk_0 have to route, you have to wrestle with that.

spk_0 And everybody has to at some point, you have to do something with that.

spk_0 They have to deal with that.

spk_0 You can't say, well, I'm not going to make a judgment on that because it's impossible.

spk_0 You're making a judgment with the other and it's, and you have to come to terms with that.

spk_0 And that's, and yeah, and there's those moments where you're just, when you're just reminded

spk_0 of that we are in a greater, we're in a greater kingdom.

spk_0 And you know, I've got interestingly, man, you say that and I have a song on this album

spk_0 that is the most probably most surprised song that I've ever, probably surprised title

spk_0 that would ever come from me.

spk_0 And when you think of my songs, it's, how great is our God, holy forever, we fall down

spk_0 These things that are like, I'm pushing people to God.

spk_0 His son is in a bad place and he comes and he says, um, he said, Jesus, would you have

spk_0 And if you can, would you heal my son?

spk_0 And Jesus says this, what do you mean if I can?

spk_0 And who hasn't been there in the struggle of life of the powerful and the struggle of

spk_0 And what I love is that Jesus didn't go, well, you don't, you don't 100% believe.

spk_0 So I'm moving on to the next, next kid.

spk_0 Oh, you don't believe I'm next.

spk_0 Yeah, he said, help me.

spk_0 And Jesus heals that child.

spk_0 And I think that there's something powerful about that because there's a, there's a

spk_0 hope in that that that's where all of us are.

spk_0 Always say, if you haven't been there, you haven't lived long enough because life is hard.

spk_0 It's unfair.

spk_0 It comes out in hard ways.

spk_0 And you'll find yourself there.

spk_0 But that's why a song like that is so powerful.

spk_0 And, you know, it ends with, um, I end the song with it as well.

spk_0 Um, it as well, it as well with my soul.

spk_0 And because I think that's, I think that's the best to him ever written with amazing

spk_0 grace.

spk_0 It as well.

spk_0 But that, that, the story that even that hymn comes from that it's the most unbelievable

spk_0 story of a song ever written.

spk_0 And it comes from, yeah, and it comes from that place that, um, of a hard, hard, hard place,

spk_0 of unbelief in the midst of, you know, it just is questioning in the midst of great pain.

spk_0 And it's such a, well, it's such a, uh, it's such a simple prayer.

spk_0 Help me with my unbelief.

spk_0 It's like he's not, he's like, I'm doing my best here.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 You know, it's not.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 And it reminds me, you know, it reminds me the scripture says when you're weak, God is

spk_0 strong.

spk_0 In your weakness, God's strength is perfect.

spk_0 Not when you're strong, he's strong.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 Like when you are weak, then his strength is perfect.

spk_0 And that's what that's saying.

spk_0 Lord, I believe, but I do believe, but there's some struggle at me right now.

spk_0 And I just got it in.

spk_0 I just love that.

spk_0 It's that, that's not just a nice little lyric, but that's Rodic from God's word, you

spk_0 Well, then the best in that, the best worship set you could be a part of is, is an essence

spk_0 The idea, the first idea I had is like, this is the song I want to write with you guys and

spk_0 it's called Be the Moon because I was, I was one of these, one of these interviews,

spk_0 not you, thankfully, but one of these interviews.

spk_0 This lady was trying to passive aggressive at me.

spk_0 And she said, you know, you talk about God, you're trying to lead people to God.

spk_0 It seems, it seems, but like the lights are on you, you're on a stage, people won't

spk_0 picture to you.

spk_0 You sign things.

spk_0 That's kind of weird.

spk_0 You're signing things and then you're telling about God, but then you're signing their

spk_0 shirts and that's kind of weird, isn't it?

spk_0 And I said, you know, I said, I guess it is, but I said, my job is just to be the moon.

spk_0 I don't know.

spk_0 I just, it's like, I think God is a download from heaven.

spk_0 I was like, because the moon has no light on its own, but it just reflects a greater light.

spk_0 And I was like, that's, that's, that's what I'm supposed to do.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 And she was, well, we're about out of time.

spk_0 I was like, that, I don't have any comeback.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 That's a good point.

spk_0 I was just, I just came from heaven because I was like, I felt kind of cornered in, but

spk_0 that's the truth, man.

spk_0 And that's, that's our place here on this earth is, I don't have a light of myself, but

spk_0 I'm hopefully, you know, it is funny when you think about the moon.

spk_0 Some days it's a full moon.

spk_0 Some days it's a barely a sliver.

spk_0 Some days behind the clouds, right?

spk_0 But the moon is, it's, it's a great example of our, what it needs with, when it, when

spk_0 Jesus said, you're the light of the world.

spk_0 And obviously we're reflecting His light, hopefully to this world.

spk_0 And man, I know you feel it.

spk_0 I know everybody senses it right now, but there is an insane, an insane difference of light

spk_0 and darkness right now.

spk_0 And, and you, it is everywhere I go, man, every Uber driver, I talk to when I'm on the

spk_0 road on tour.

spk_0 I'm just like in an Uber and I just like, hey, how you doing?

spk_0 And there it's like, and it's just real.

spk_0 And it feels more, it feels like no more, we're not playing games anymore right now.

spk_0 And, and it's, anyway, that's, didn't mean to get off on that, but that's a, it's,

spk_0 it's, yeah, I like that.

spk_0 Well, I like that it is, you just, like we, we talked about this on the pod last week,

spk_0 we talked about Charlie Kirk in, in, at length.

spk_0 And we said, well, what is our, which kind of, we go, what is our battle?

spk_0 Is it, is it, is it, is it Republicans versus Democrats?

spk_0 So it can't be that because there's a lot of people on the right that are wild and a lot

spk_0 of people on the left that are wild.

spk_0 It can't be that.

spk_0 Well, is it Christian versus non-Christian?

spk_0 We're like, well, there's, you know, Christians protesting military funerals and pastors.

spk_0 You're like, it can't be that.

spk_0 It's, and the more I tell you, it's just evil.

spk_0 And the more you try to explain it or, or put a motivation around just evil.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 And it's, it is all, it's very present.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 In front of everybody.

spk_0 And you do hear in the face of all that, you, you see, like the, the message of Jesus

spk_0 was always, are you, are you the way?

spk_0 And he's like, well, a seed falls by the river.

spk_0 And you're like, what?

spk_0 And you know what I'm saying?

spk_0 It was very like, almost like you're walking by a Christian bookstore and you hear one

spk_0 of those and you go, gosh, it's just like kind of calling to you, you know what I'm saying?

spk_0 But you go, that's, yeah, that's the good side.

spk_0 I don't know, does that make sense?

spk_0 Yeah, totally.

spk_0 I was, you know, I had the opportunity to play at that memorial.

spk_0 I was asked to come play.

spk_0 I opened the, open the home morning and Erica reached out to our team and said, one of

spk_0 Charlie's favorite songs is How Great Is Our God?

spk_0 Would I come lead it?

spk_0 And I'm like, how can I not?

spk_0 You know, and how can I not do that?

spk_0 And to stand there and to sing those words and to sing a song, Holy Forever, which is

spk_0 says all thrones and dominions, all powers and positions, your name stands above them

spk_0 all.

spk_0 And I'm literally in front of me are all the powers and positions of this, of our nation

spk_0 and on this earth, our standing in front of me, including Elon over here and the Secretary

spk_0 State, the Vice President and RFK and then Trump's in the up in the, and I'm just like,

spk_0 in to say all, all powers and positions, your name stands above them all.

spk_0 It was quite like, there was a lot of clarity for me.

spk_0 I've never had that moment in my life, you know, of standing before the powers and positions

spk_0 of this earth and declaring, and it was beautiful because they were declaring it as well, not

spk_0 all of them, a lot of them, and some of them were.

spk_0 And it was so, it was so powerful.

spk_0 But yeah, I mean, you know, you, you go back to that, gosh, that thing you said earlier

spk_0 about, people have to make, people are like wrestling with, and they're happy.

spk_0 They have to connect everybody and it made me think just, just when you were talking,

spk_0 is the question of all questions when, when Jesus said to his followers, he took them

spk_0 to this place called Cessaria Philippi.

spk_0 He took his boys out there and he said, and this was the play also in that time was called

spk_0 Pan, which means many gods.

spk_0 And it was the place where all of the statues of all the different gods were kind of put

spk_0 up.

spk_0 And it was like this place of all the different gods.

spk_0 And it was in that place where he looked at them and he said, who do the people say that

spk_0 I am?

spk_0 And they were like, oh, some say you're this and some say this and some say this.

spk_0 And then he looked at him and said, who do you think I am?

spk_0 Who do you think I am?

spk_0 That's the question of all questions, right?

spk_0 That is the question of all questions of life.

spk_0 And that's what people and me, myself, have to wrestle with daily and everybody.

spk_0 And who do you say that I am?

spk_0 And because that is, that's the question.

spk_0 And if you are, you know, back to the show at Bristol, it's your favorite drivers about

spk_0 to be introduced.

spk_0 There's a kid with a mullet over here and then there's, there's so many things going

spk_0 on.

spk_0 And then it does, I always said this about my, the church that I grew up in.

spk_0 I was like, we, you know, we, it was the college ministry.

spk_0 Sometimes we would go in there to meet girls.

spk_0 And then there was like, they had food there.

spk_0 And there was like, yeah, however, or your buddy was driving, you're like, I guess I'll

spk_0 go with him.

spk_0 And then you got there and you did have to confront the Holy Spirit every time.

spk_0 Every time.

spk_0 And so like it might not be at Bristol outside with a bunch of things going on in a bouncy

spk_0 castle over here.

spk_0 It might not be as, but you still do.

spk_0 There's some, some, you still do.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 And that's what's beautiful about it.

spk_0 It's like sometimes it is so like I would imagine up somebody, Bridgestone Arena, that's

spk_0 like working at the concession stand and they're like doing the popcorn and they go, gosh.

spk_0 You know, like, yeah, something about, you know, you don't have to confront anything

spk_0 if you had another type of concert sometimes.

spk_0 And you're like, oh, it's just entertainment.

spk_0 I understand what the exchange is.

spk_0 They're paying $35 for the songs they heard on the radio.

spk_0 There is something.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 That if it's done well.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 That you go, gosh.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 I need to, and it's not, and it's confusing to someone because if someone was working

spk_0 at the concession stand, they would think if they weren't a believer that they need to

spk_0 meet you.

spk_0 Right.

spk_0 No, it's not.

spk_0 You can feel this on Sunday morning, a lot of places.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 That's what's beautiful about it.

spk_0 And it doesn't also end with you.

spk_0 No, exactly.

spk_0 And it didn't start with you either.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 That's, and that's what's so beautiful about this music.

spk_0 And that's what I always pray that God's presence would touch people.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 When they hear the music that they don't even know that, you know, I haven't created

spk_0 any new instruments.

spk_0 And I have not, there's only 12 notes on the scale and it's the same music, the same

spk_0 chords, but the presence of God somehow, they've since that and would touch the people

spk_0 and they may not even know what that is.

spk_0 But that's what, that's what I always pray for God.

spk_0 People have an encounter with God.

spk_0 And it's almost like if it is the, you're like, it is very this army.

spk_0 You're like, this place is sold out or this place, we sold three tickets.

spk_0 Or like, yeah, it doesn't really, we'll talk, we'll fire someone at management.

spk_0 But yeah, on Monday, I've done both of those.

spk_0 I have done both of those many times.

spk_0 Well, you go this, that's not really what we're, what we're here for.

spk_0 Man, I have to remember that all the time, man, you saying that truly?

spk_0 I said, that's a big one for me.

spk_0 And you go, me, Brian.

spk_0 That was the next, anytime I've got somewhere, I'm like, yes, I, I made it.

spk_0 But like when you go from, he was Op Alabama or else I'd be ready.

spk_0 I think it's cool to think that like just the omniscience of God in that of where he

spk_0 knew that you were going to feel that when you got to the garden.

spk_0 He knew you'd get there.

spk_0 And he's like, don't worry, I got some of the back insides.

spk_0 Yeah, don't worry.

spk_0 Well, it is, when I did, I did Winter Jam in 2018.

spk_0 So Carrie and Cody led worship right after me in the set.

spk_0 And they, they, they, we at the beginning, they're like, how's this going to work?

spk_0 Comedy and then you're leading worship, everybody.

spk_0 And then after about a month, I'll never forget this.

spk_0 Carrie came to me and she goes, I got to be honest with you.

spk_0 These are such a pleasure to lead worship after you.

spk_0 I go, why do you say that?

spk_0 She goes, all of these kids from all these youth groups, all over the,

spk_0 90 miles, none of them know each other.

spk_0 They're all different backgrounds, different outfits, different races,

spk_0 different education, different everything.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 And what you have done has, has broken down all these walls.

spk_0 I've made fun of all the stuff in the city and the Christian stereotypes

spk_0 and, you know, people from this city and that city.

spk_0 And everybody is elbowing each other.

spk_0 Did you?

spk_0 And then you have like a kind of open.

spk_0 It's like almost like, and then she goes, we can just 100%.

spk_0 It's nothing like laughing, man.

spk_0 That opens up the ranks down every wall.

spk_0 It's a great, it's the greatest gift.

spk_0 I, that's, I don't, you don't know this, but when I was in college,

spk_0 I went to, I went to nationals in comedy speaking.

spk_0 Oh, wow.

spk_0 That should be the start of this pod when we talk about that.

spk_0 And, and there had a thing called, it was, it was called after dinner speaking.

spk_0 It was, it was a, and it was all these different.

spk_0 You could do debate, you could do poetry, you could do thing.

spk_0 It was, it was a college course.

spk_0 And I chose, I said, I said, what's after dinner speaking?

spk_0 It's like, well, it's just kind of being, it's just comedy,

spk_0 but you got to do it in front of judges and you got to, and you do this thing.

spk_0 And so I always loved, I loved, I just, I'm not near what you can do.

spk_0 But I always, there's something special about the walls that come down

spk_0 when people start laughing, man.

spk_0 And people start, you get those people in that place.

spk_0 And what you do and it's so special, man, I love it.

spk_0 Did it, did it go good for you?

spk_0 The comedy, the comedy.

spk_0 Well, and you did it, do you remember any of your jokes?

spk_0 It was, it was, it was called, Why America Loves Country Music.

spk_0 It was my skin.

spk_0 And that, I had no idea.

spk_0 It just doesn't exist anywhere.

spk_0 I just looked forward to it.

spk_0 It was trying to find it.

spk_0 It was trying to, it was trying to, no, it doesn't exist.

spk_0 But I would, I would, I would write little songs.

spk_0 And that we're like, I would just make up little country songs.

spk_0 Tyler junior college.

spk_0 And so I just got my little songs and, and I would,

spk_0 my little gimmick was I would, I'd lick my pick

spk_0 and I would just stick it on the guitar.

spk_0 It would just stick on the guitar while I'm talking.

spk_0 And anytime I was ready for this song, I just slide to pick off

spk_0 and just go, just say, I had this whole,

spk_0 I had this whole little thing, John.

spk_0 You got to break that back.

spk_0 It was, it was huge.

spk_0 If I see a video of you doing that, I'll know.

spk_0 I go, if anybody sees that, I know it's the same thing.

spk_0 So the craziest one I've ever happened is for my wife,

spk_0 it's my first anniversary.

spk_0 So let's, so it's your first anniversary.

spk_0 You want to do it, right?

spk_0 So we're like, okay, let's go to Miami.

spk_0 And I was like, we've not really been to Miami much before.

spk_0 And I set all the hotel and everything.

spk_0 And it is, when I say I've picked the wrong hotel,

spk_0 it is the wrong hotel.

spk_0 We get there and it's a convention going on.

spk_0 And we're the only people that aren't,

spk_0 they don't have name tags.

spk_0 And it's like, I'm not doing this my first anniversary.

spk_0 So it's like, baby, let's go to South Beach.

spk_0 I've always heard about South Beach.

spk_0 And I literally didn't, I was that naive.

spk_0 It's like, I heard it, I heard it's,

spk_0 I heard it's fun.

spk_0 Let's go out there.

spk_0 Let's get, let's get, let's get, let's find another room.

spk_0 So we go find this hotel, get on a South Beach.

spk_0 It's been a long day of travel.

spk_0 Get out there and lay the,

spk_0 we lay the towels down the beach.

spk_0 And I was not ready for what I was seeing.

spk_0 I mean, we had the most clothes on by,

spk_0 I mean, a million miles.

spk_0 And we're just like, oh my gosh.

spk_0 I was like, wow, I wasn't ready for this.

spk_0 And everybody's just like, wow, this isn't saying.

spk_0 Where people watching, well, this guy comes up.

spk_0 He's in this attendant and he's got these waters.

spk_0 And he's got these waters like this.

spk_0 And he comes up and he's looking all Miami.

spk_0 I mean, he is cool.

spk_0 He's ripped.

spk_0 He's tattooed.

spk_0 He's got his hair slicked back.

spk_0 He walks up, and my wife goes, she had said,

spk_0 we finally lay down and she goes,

spk_0 well, at least, if you're looking around,

spk_0 she goes, at least nobody's going to know who you are here.

spk_0 And I'm like, that's true.

spk_0 And she's just kind of taking a little jab, you know?

spk_0 Well, he comes up and he's got this little thing.

spk_0 And he walks up with the waters.

spk_0 He looks at me and he goes, no way.

spk_0 You're Christ, I'm like, and he sits down in between us

spk_0 on our towels.

spk_0 My wife said, in bikini, I'm sitting there.

spk_0 He sits down and starts just pouring out his life.

spk_0 He's like, man, I just say, because I can't believe this.

spk_0 Running into you here, he said, man,

spk_0 I came to Miami to do everything you could do.

spk_0 Man, I've done everything.

spk_0 I got to the bottom of life.

spk_0 I've done every draw you can do.

spk_0 I came here to party and do all the things.

spk_0 And it's empty.

spk_0 I got to the bottom of my life.

spk_0 Somebody had me one of your CDs.

spk_0 I pulled over on the side of the road and gave my life to Christ

spk_0 with someone who listens to your music.

spk_0 And now you're sitting here in the South Beach.

spk_0 And I'm just like, and I was like, this is amazing.

spk_0 And he gets up and he just walks off.

spk_0 And I was like, my wife and I was like, that's not what I thought.

spk_0 And I remember this, it was Jesus' side was his own.

spk_0 And my wife and I are laying there.

spk_0 She's in her bathing suit.

spk_0 And she goes, and she, and you know,

spk_0 ladies can do this.

spk_0 She can talk about moving them out.

spk_0 She's like, what do we do?

spk_0 What do we do?

spk_0 And I was like, I think we're supposed to worship, babe.

spk_0 But thanks for what we're doing.

spk_0 So we get up, we get up and we're all three of us are now holding hands.

spk_0 And we're thinking, I'm thinking, John, you know what I'm thinking?

spk_0 I'm thinking, if any, I'm thinking now everybody else is looking at us.

spk_0 Now we're the way everybody's looking at us because it's loud.

spk_0 When we get circle all the way back, tattooed.

spk_0 Yeah, that just to suit you know, yeah.

spk_0 We talked about, we talked about it already, but plug the album a little bit.

spk_0 Oh, thank you, man.

spk_0 The album is called The King is Still The King.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 And if I would, I honestly, you know, a lot of things we talk about today.

spk_0 If I had to put that album out last year, I think most of people in my world would be like,

spk_0 oh, it's nice.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 I believe that.

spk_0 It just feels like a little something a little bit more, I don't know, a little bit more important,

spk_0 maybe a statement.

spk_0 And that's only God's timing.

spk_0 I mean, I have put this out this at this moment in time.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 And the king is still the king.

spk_0 That's the, it's a declaration of faith, right?

spk_0 It's more than just a, more than just a title.

spk_0 And it's on my hat here, everything you see around our world is this, is this image of this

spk_0 crop, this crown.

spk_0 And it's the crown of thorns wrapped around the crown of the crown of the king of kings.

spk_0 And I just feel like that tells the whole story in this little image of the king is still

spk_0 the king.

spk_0 And when Jesus on this earth, he wore crown of thorns.

spk_0 We know that it was mocked.

spk_0 He was shame.

spk_0 Shame.

spk_0 His blood was shed for us.

spk_0 And yet today he wears crown of king of kings.

spk_0 And the scripture says he is wears a crown, a crown of crowns, a king of kings.

spk_0 And there's a song on the album that I get that title from.

spk_0 And it, the chorus, it just says this for the blood is still the blood and the king is still

spk_0 the king.

spk_0 And that's the whole story.

spk_0 That's the crown of thorns wrapped around this crown.

spk_0 And so that's why you see everything you see of mine online has got this crown.

spk_0 And it's the kind of point of people to hold the album is this thread.

spk_0 I've never had an album so intentional.

spk_0 I've always just put whatever best songs I can.

spk_0 This one has a real thread running through it of this king of this of goddess king.

spk_0 And the way just the way it even is sequenced and all the pieces of music throughout.

spk_0 I mean, I even went old school, found it.

spk_0 One of the early songs I used to lead called You're My King.

spk_0 Amazing love.

spk_0 Oh, yeah.

spk_0 And just to bring that back into this idea of the king is still the king.

spk_0 And so I hope people enjoy this.

spk_0 This is my 18th album, which is crazy.

spk_0 And I'm worried and just grateful for that.

spk_0 And hopefully there's songs that really make people connect to the church connects to.

spk_0 And I think it's been a beautiful already playing it a little bit.

spk_0 Right out there.

spk_0 18 albums is not so many.

spk_0 If there was a, if we had to elect, I'm going to ask this, if you had elected a Christian president,

spk_0 it would probably be you.

spk_0 Do you think?

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 If we got to go, Hey, we got in America, we got to get, they said we had to, who do we nominate?

spk_0 I think it'd be, yeah, on the ballot for sure.

spk_0 Yeah, I want the ballot.

spk_0 Definitely.

spk_0 There's lots of people.

spk_0 I'm being the, I'm being the, run for the primary.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 The primary.

spk_0

spk_0 Oh, they albums out currently.

spk_0 Yes, it is out currently.

spk_0 It's just came out and the king is still the king.

spk_0 And you're going on, how are you going on tour?

spk_0 I'm on tour right now.

spk_0 And so it's really, really beautiful, beautiful nights.

spk_0 They feel more charged than ever.

spk_0 I mean, I think it's been really, really insane.

spk_0 I think with all the, kind of these awakening things in our country, you know, and what you

spk_0 said, the evil, the real, the realness of that and the light and the darkness and the

spk_0 feeling that, feeling those two things, those forces, right?

spk_0 And you got to do something with it.

spk_0 Mm-hmm.

spk_0 However you got in there, if your parents drug you or if you had the, or you as a coworker

spk_0 or a wife or if you're a huge fan, if we're doing our job right, I think mine is the

spk_0 same way.

spk_0 The common is that in the last two weeks has felt so powerful.

spk_0 And I just talk about a little bit at the end of the show.

spk_0 I go, we're joking here, but we're not joking.

spk_0 Or you know what I'm saying?

spk_0 Where you understand exactly what we're here for.

spk_0 And it's all these ideas that we are kind of satirizing or making fun of.

spk_0

spk_0 Like I said, we're kind of attacking the same issues from a different angle.

spk_0 Yes.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 I mean, it is very, everybody, and we, I just saw the year you were in Fort Wayne.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 I was probably there at the same night.

spk_0 Maybe I was in the other side of town.

spk_0 Maybe I was a night after before, but it is unique because you go to a city and you,

spk_0 you kind of live there and you go, I don't know how everybody, like, especially during

spk_0 COVID, you go, I don't know how everybody.

spk_0 And then you all come together.

spk_0 It's just such a, we talk about it here on the pod all the time.

spk_0 Everybody from Nashville on Thursday night or Wednesday night goes out in these buses.

spk_0 It's from, and it's a Christian.

spk_0 There's comedians, there's country artists, there's folk, there's everybody.

spk_0 Frog everything.

spk_0 And then I, at times, it has felt like going out in wartime when the bands would go

spk_0 out there, people are depressed and sad and unemployed and they lost their jobs or marriages.

spk_0 We all go out there and encourage them.

spk_0 We obviously with the light of Christ or with comedy and then they we all kind of on Sunday

spk_0 night or Monday morning, you see them all coming back.

spk_0 And I, it's a very, very noble purpose to give your life to.

spk_0 It is.

spk_0 And yeah, and I just love, I want to say just quickly, like love what you're doing,

spk_0 love that.

spk_0 Obviously, the influence you've got with this and then just using your voice and how

spk_0 God's just elevated you to be such a, some of these people looking to, you know, and

spk_0 to point them to that light.

spk_0 I mean, I just feel like it's more than ever.

spk_0 God, well, I think we will start of this podcast in 2021 because I feel like kids are coming

spk_0 up and believing these ideas from the internet.

spk_0 I go, that's bad.

spk_0 That's bad information, whether it's about your identity or even something similar, like

spk_0 just all these, everything they hear is I disagree with.

spk_0 And I would, we go, well, I would like to add a voice on whatever side this is to be

spk_0 like this.

spk_0 I do not feel that this is correct.

spk_0 And then I sat with it's wild with, yeah, with Charlie Kirk, we posted a lot about it

spk_0 because I go, hey, I'm on this side.

spk_0 Like I know there's a lot, you get a lot of pushback on the internet or a lot of, I

spk_0 don't, I'm, I get to say my,

spk_0 yeah, side two.

spk_0 And I am firmly and strong more than ever on this side.

spk_0 And you go, well, if everybody gets to add theirs, and if you're on the other side, add

spk_0 yours.

spk_0 And then we'll, yeah, let, we'll discuss it.

spk_0 And I just like, I don't like the idea that only these voices can be heard.

spk_0 That's right.

spk_0 It takes guys to do that.
