spk_0 President Donald Trump's attempts to deploy national guard troops to Democrat run cities

spk_0 has led to the eruption of several legal showdowns.

spk_0 Let's start with Illinois.

spk_0 The state and Chicago have sued to stop the federalization of national guard troops from

spk_0 their state and Texas.

spk_0 A federal judge has not blocked deployments for now, but has given the administration

spk_0 until the end of the day tomorrow to explain why she shouldn't do so.

spk_0 And in Oregon, the White House has asked an appeals court to pause in order from a

spk_0 judge in Oregon that haunts national guard deployment to Portland.

spk_0 These state legal battles come as Trump said yesterday in the Oval Office he's considering

spk_0 invoking the Insurrection Act.

spk_0 CNN's Elena Trin has more on what this means and where all these legal fights are heading.

spk_0 That is an 1807 federal law that will essentially allow the president to federalize the national

spk_0 guards and the US military into some of these cities.

spk_0 The president didn't rule it out.

spk_0 He said he's not considering it right now, but if the courts continue to stand in his

spk_0 way, he would be open to using it.

spk_0 This is going to be a heavy battle fought in the courts.

spk_0 And as these battles play out, one of the most significant legal figures in the Trump

spk_0 administration, Attorney General Pambondi, is currently facing Congress for the first

spk_0 time since she was confirmed.

spk_0 The Attorney General has systematically weaponized our nation's leading law enforcement agency

spk_0 to protect President Trump and his allies and attack his opponents and sadly the American

spk_0 people.

spk_0 That's Illinois Democrat Senator Dick Durbin this morning at the Senate Judiciary Committee,

spk_0 criticizing Bondi's track record at the Justice Department.

spk_0 So far, Bondi is clashed with Durbin about the legal rationale behind the deployment of

spk_0 national guard troops to Chicago against his wishes.

spk_0 Here's what Bondi said.

spk_0 I wish you loved Chicago as much as you hate President Trump.

spk_0 And currently, the national guard are on the way to Chicago.

spk_0 There's a huge number of topics she's set to be questioned about from the lethal strikes

spk_0 on suspected drug cartel boats, the Epstein files and the indictment of former FBI director

spk_0 James Comey.

spk_0 And now to Egypt, where leaders from Israel, Hamas and the US are entering day two of Gaza

spk_0 ceasefire talks.

spk_0 CNN's Nick Robertson says there are a few details because of the extraordinary amount

spk_0 of secrecy surrounding the discussion so far.

spk_0 But he did learn that Hamas members said headway was made in a four-hour discussion yesterday.

spk_0 The mediators were just listening to what both sides have to say.

spk_0 And Hamas say today is the day, the first day, when the actual negotiations begin, where

spk_0 the sides begin, potentially listening to what the mediators say, the other side has

spk_0 been saying and potentially changing their positions.

spk_0 It is a very slow process.

spk_0 Meanwhile, the devastation in Gaza continues as Gaza's health ministry says over 66,000

spk_0 people have died there from war and famine.

spk_0 Today is the second anniversary of the October 7th attacks, with 48 hostages still being

spk_0 held by Hamas, with 20 still believed to be alive.

spk_0 At hostages square in Tel Aviv, the mood is somber and some are showing their hopes and

spk_0 disappointments.

spk_0 It would be absolutely wonderful if the hostages come home.

spk_0 In the next week, it would be our pleasure and privilege to be here in Israel when they

spk_0 come back.

spk_0 CBS News has a new editor in chief.

spk_0 Journalist Anonchbanoar Barry Weiss is taking charge as her media startup The Free Press

spk_0 is being acquired by CBS's parent company Paramount.

spk_0 In a memo, Weiss told CBS staffers that she wants to help make CBS quote, the most trusted

spk_0 news organization in America and the world.

spk_0 But her new position has stirred some anxieties, as she brings a new sensibility that aims to

spk_0 appeal to quote, the enormous numbers of smart, politically mixed, pragmatic Americans,

spk_0 who are the actual mainstream in America.

spk_0 Coming up, how people's inhalers add to climate change.

spk_0 A new study has found that the climate pollution from inhalers has the same impact of half

spk_0 a million cars a year.

spk_0 Figures from the asthma and allergy foundation of America show about 34 million Americans

spk_0 have a chronic lung disease, such as asthma.

spk_0 To treat the condition, some use boot-shaped meat to dose inhalers, which spray a dose of

spk_0 medicine into the lungs.

spk_0 A study in the journal J.A.M.A found that the gas which repels the air into your lungs,

spk_0 substances called hydrofluoroalkanes or HFA's, are thousands of times more powerful than

spk_0 carbon dioxide, at trapping heat into the atmosphere.
