spk_0 He was Attorney General Pam Bondy as testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
spk_0 While makers are asking her about controversy and turmoil at the Justice Department.
spk_0 Bondy and her top aides have fired several career prosecutors who worked on the Capitol
spk_0 riot cases or investigated President Trump.
spk_0 Bondy defended her record since taking office.
spk_0 We are returning to our core mission of fighting real crime.
spk_0 While there is more work to do, I believe in eight short months.
spk_0 We have made tremendous progress towards those ends.
spk_0 But Bondy is also accused of using her agency for political purposes.
spk_0 Her testimony comes less than two weeks after the Justice Department got an indictment
spk_0 against former FBI Director James Comey.
spk_0 President Trump has been demanding that Bondy take legal action against Comey.
spk_0 The US Supreme Court hears arguments today in a case about conversion therapy.
spk_0 NPR's Nina Tottenberg reports the case could invalidate laws in half of US states.
spk_0 Conversion therapy promoted by some conservative Christian groups is banned from minors by half the states
spk_0 and staunchly opposed as harmful from minors by every major medical association.
spk_0 But today lawyers for a Colorado therapist will tell the justices that because she uses only talk therapy,
spk_0 banning the practice violates the Constitution's free speech guarantee.
spk_0 Last term, the high court upheld state laws that banned the use of hormones and other measures
spk_0 to help minors change their sex.
spk_0 Today, the issue is on the other foot, so to speak, with a different group of states
spk_0 contending that they ban conversion therapy because it doesn't work and has proven harmful to minors.

spk_0 It's affecting air traffic controllers who are not getting paid.
spk_0 There were no controllers at the Burbank Airport near Los Angeles last night,

spk_0 Today is the second anniversary of the Hamas led attack on Israel.
spk_0 Nearly 1,200 people were killed by militants and 251 people were abducted.
spk_0 Following the attack, Israel began to attack Gaza.
spk_0 In the past two years, about 67,000 Palestinians have been killed in attacks by the Israeli military.
spk_0 New research from the Artificial Intelligence Company and Thropic finds that college and university professors worldwide use AI to help them in the classroom.
spk_0 Lee Gaines reports.
spk_0 Anthropic used an automated tool to analyze 74,000 conversations professors had with its AI chatbot Claude.
spk_0 The findings show they used it for things like lesson planning and administrative tasks.
spk_0 And some of the conversations were about grading student work.
spk_0 Mark Watkins at the University of Mississippi studies the impact of AI on higher education.
spk_0 And this sort of nightmare scenario that we might be running into is students using AI to write papers and teachers using AI to grade the same papers.
spk_0 In fact, the case that what's the purpose of education.
spk_0 Anthropic also surveyed professors who said grading was the task that AI was least effective at.
