Alice in Wonderland, a present for the Queen.
spk_0
It looks like Christmas.
spk_0
Alice said, gazing out her parlor window one cold December afternoon, snow sparkled
spk_0
in the fields and on the branches of the pine trees.
spk_0
Outside children were building a snowman.
spk_0
Alice thought about joining them, but the parlor was so warm and cozy.
spk_0
Alice yawned.
spk_0
Perhaps it will be best to stay inside after all.
spk_0
Suddenly something hopped across the snow in front of Alice's house.
spk_0
It was a rabbit with white fur wearing a red coat.
spk_0
Alice sat up startled white.
spk_0
It's the white rabbit from Wonderland, she cried.
spk_0
It's lost.
spk_0
It's lost.
spk_0
The white rabbit wailed as he hurried past the house.
spk_0
Alice quickly put on her winter coat and ran outside after the rabbit.
spk_0
She caught up to him just as he was about to dive into a hole under a tree.
spk_0
Not so fast, Alice said.
spk_0
You're always running away, whatever is wrong this time.
spk_0
Oh, you must let me through the white rabbit cry.
spk_0
I've lost the Queen of Hearts Christmas present.
spk_0
If I can't find it, she'll have my head.
spk_0
Oh dear, that would be awful indeed, Alice said.
spk_0
Please, let me help you find it.
spk_0
But the white rabbit simply dove down the hole without saying another word.
spk_0
Alice followed the white rabbit down and down and down she fell until she landed.
spk_0
With a thumb.
spk_0
Alice saw the rabbit's fluffy tail disappear through a door.
spk_0
She hurried after him and found herself on a snowy path lined with evergreen trees.
spk_0
The white rabbit was gone, but Alice could see his footprints in the snow.
spk_0
Alice made her way down the path admiring the lights on the trees.
spk_0
Then she noticed something.
spk_0
Why, their fireflies, she exclaimed.
spk_0
All at once the footprints stopped.
spk_0
I've lost them again, Alice said with a sigh.
spk_0
Lost who, someone asked.
spk_0
A toothy smile appeared in one of the trees followed quickly by a purple striped cat around the smile.
spk_0
Cheshire cat, Alice cried happily.
spk_0
Maybe you can help me.
spk_0
The white rabbit has lost the Queen's present and...
spk_0
But that's a lost what, the cat interrupted.
spk_0
I thought you said you lost a who.
spk_0
Alice frowned.
spk_0
Usually, she quite enjoyed riddles, but she always had such trouble explaining herself
spk_0
to the Cheshire cat.
spk_0
I didn't lose a what she said.
spk_0
The white rabbit did, and now I've lost him.
spk_0
Suddenly, the Cheshire cat disappeared.
spk_0
I can't help you with your lost who, he called out, but I can help you with your lost what?
spk_0
Try the mad hatter.
spk_0
Alice looked around.
spk_0
She knew the hatter wasn't on the path behind her, so she continued forward.
spk_0
Soon, she heard music.
spk_0
Deck the halls with bowls of jelly.
spk_0
Foo-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu.
spk_0
Alice emerged in a clearing.
spk_0
The mad hatter and the March Hare stood with their arms around each other singing.
spk_0
They stopped when they saw Alice.
spk_0
Alice, the mad hatter cried, come join us.
spk_0
We're singing Christmas Harolds.
spk_0
Christmas Harolds?
spk_0
Alice asked confused.
spk_0
Don't you mean Christmas carols?
spk_0
What does Carol have to do with it?
spk_0
The March Hare said, everyone knows, Harold wrote all the best Christmas songs, and with
spk_0
that, the March Hare and the mad hatter began to sing again.
spk_0
Oh, Christmas teee-o, Christmas teee-o, with milk and cream, we drink the...
spk_0
But that's not how the song goes at all, Alice said.
spk_0
And anyway, I don't have time to sing.
spk_0
The white rabbit has lost the Queen's Christmas present, and suddenly, the mad hatter jumped
spk_0
in front of Alice holding a teapot and a teacup.
spk_0
Cold cocoa, he offered, handing Alice the teacup.
spk_0
Don't you mean hot cocoa, Alice replied?
spk_0
This reminds me of a riddle, the mad hatter said.
spk_0
What keeps your head cool in the summer and warm in the winter?
spk_0
A hat, of course, Alice said.
spk_0
Now please, I need your help.
spk_0
The Queen's present is lost.
spk_0
With a twinkle in his eye, the mad hatter took off his hat.
spk_0
Sitting atop his head was a large box wrapped in Christmas paper, and lying on top of the
spk_0
box was the tiny, sleepy, door-mouse.
spk_0
There you are, the mad hatter said, grabbing the door-mouse, and here you are, the march hair
spk_0
said, handing Alice the present.
spk_0
Oh, thank you, Alice cried.
spk_0
Now if you would be so kind, but the mad hatter and the march hair weren't listening to her
spk_0
anymore, they had burst into song again.
spk_0
On the first day of Christmas, my best friend gave to me a steaming pot of love, Lee Tee.
spk_0
Shaking her head, Alice left the clearing.
spk_0
As she made her way through the tree, she saw that the white rabbit's footprints had
spk_0
reappeared.
spk_0
Alice didn't want to lose the tracks again.
spk_0
She carefully followed them all the way to the Queen's castle.
spk_0
As she approached the gates, the Queen's guards grabbed her.
spk_0
The Queen's got to reward out for your head, one of the guards said.
spk_0
The guards brought Alice to the throne room, where the white rabbit was busy apologizing
spk_0
to the Queen.
spk_0
I'm sorry, your majesty, he said, I had your present, and then I lost it.
spk_0
The Queen had heard enough.
spk_0
Off with his head, she shouted.
spk_0
No, Alice cried, breaking away from the guards.
spk_0
The present isn't lost.
spk_0
I found it.
spk_0
The Queen glared at Alice.
spk_0
Off with her head, she yelled.
spk_0
The King coughed quietly and placed his hand on the Queen's arm.
spk_0
Perhaps you should open the present first deer, he suggested meekly.
spk_0
The Queen eyed the present.
spk_0
I suppose I could, she said, tearing off the Vos rapping.
spk_0
Her eyes lit up as she pulled a small Christmas tree out of the box.
spk_0
As the Queen of Hearts admired her Christmas gift, a large grin appeared in the air next
spk_0
to Alice.
spk_0
Now might not be the worst time to slip away, it said.
spk_0
Alice nodded and quietly snuck out of the room.
spk_0
As soon as she was safely out of sight, she began to run.
spk_0
But she slipped on a patch of ice and hit her head.
spk_0
Everything went black.
spk_0
When Alice opened her eyes, she found herself back in her parlor.
spk_0
She yawned sleepily.
spk_0
What a strange dream I've just had, she said.
spk_0
Stretching, Alice looked out the window.
spk_0
Just then, her eye caught the finished snowman.
spk_0
It was wearing a familiar hat and holding a teacup.
spk_0
Alice frowned.
spk_0
Perhaps it hadn't been a dream after all.
