Hi, it's Deanna and I'm right and this is how do we get here the podcast?
spk_0
So today we are talking about how to get here.
spk_0
What are we doing?
spk_0
How do we get here?
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
Make sure you start off where are we?
spk_0
Where are we?
spk_0
We are at Uhu Ru Kira Srio.
spk_0
Uhu Ru National Gears Studio.
spk_0
You say it, right?
spk_0
We are at Uhu Ru National Gears Studio.
spk_0
Ryan Salon, Recorded Up by Cast.
spk_0
Ryan has a Salon.
spk_0
Yes, it is a Salon Suite as we call it.
spk_0
And so if you've never been to a Salon Suite, it is basically a one person show or sometimes
spk_0
two.
spk_0
What is the small space where a lot of times it is one of one, even your spouse.
spk_0
A Salon Suite is a one on an intimate space for the Salis and the client to do some hair
spk_0
as attention to all this stuff.
spk_0
So it is an interesting.
spk_0
And Deanna and I are in the same building.
spk_0
And it is the author?
spk_0
She is just on the hallway around the corner.
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
And so whenever I want to come and say hi, I don't say hi.
spk_0
Or if I can.
spk_0
spk_0
But hey, how are you doing?
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
Or say good morning.
spk_0
I just walked in.
spk_0
You know.
spk_0
What are you doing?
spk_0
Are you going to the flash?
spk_0
Even though we haven't had that movie yet.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I feel like we are always working.
spk_0
What are you doing?
spk_0
What are you doing?
spk_0
When you are climbing, I will make some pictures on it.
spk_0
Working hard.
spk_0
Yeah, working hard.
spk_0
spk_0
But how do we get to sweets, girl?
spk_0
How do we get here?
spk_0
What are your stories?
spk_0
What are your journey?
spk_0
I will let you go first.
spk_0
Because I was deeply inspired by you.
spk_0
spk_0
So how do we get to Oro?
spk_0
Should we start from the forest?
spk_0
Like when I started doing hair to the nail.
spk_0
Is that too much for you?
spk_0
Is it a pretty short story to me on this?
spk_0
I'm excited.
spk_0
Several years ago, I hated my job.
spk_0
I usually have a job.
spk_0
And I needed a change.
spk_0
And my mother, Stephanie James,
spk_0
made a suggestion to me to do hair.
spk_0
She understood that it was lucrative.
spk_0
She understood that I could be creative.
spk_0
And her, being my mom, knew that I was a creative person.
spk_0
That I worked with my hands well.
spk_0
And liked to create things.
spk_0
And so she made that suggestion at the time.
spk_0
I was excited to take it serious,
spk_0
but I didn't go forth with it.
spk_0
It was just like,
spk_0
I'm like, oh, I'll think, no, I never thought about doing hair.
spk_0
But, you know,
spk_0
and then a year later, I was so fed up
spk_0
that I said, you know what, I'm going to hair school.
spk_0
Mind you, never done hair before.
spk_0
Never, I didn't grow up doing my friends hair
spk_0
or cousins or anything like that.
spk_0
I barely did anything to my own hair.
spk_0
I've only been actual by this point for a few years.
spk_0
A number of years, but not that long.
spk_0
And I was bald at the time too,
spk_0
so I wasn't doing anything with my hair.
spk_0
So, come into this, I was pretty green.
spk_0
So, went to hair school, learned everything from scratch,
spk_0
everything from cornrows,
spk_0
to two strands of this,
spk_0
two boxed braids,
spk_0
to how to shampoo,
spk_0
learned everything from scratch.
spk_0
Graduated to my state board exam.
spk_0
And then I got a job at a swimmer.
spk_0
Because after I got my state board results,
spk_0
I got my pass, and I got my license,
spk_0
it's like, okay, well,
spk_0
we got to do something with this license.
spk_0
I know from here, yeah.
spk_0
Right, it was time to, you know,
spk_0
so I took a lead,
spk_0
and went from working at a bank
spk_0
to working as a line,
spk_0
which was an interesting transition.
spk_0
But I had a lot of support for my parents,
spk_0
and they were like, go forward.
spk_0
My dad had some reservations,
spk_0
but for the most part,
spk_0
my parents were like, just go forward, yeah.
spk_0
And so I did that work that,
spk_0
that's a long for a while.
spk_0
And then I got to a point where
spk_0
it was time to transition,
spk_0
and I started thinking about what's next,
spk_0
and with some encouragement from my boyfriend,
spk_0
I decided to open a suite,
spk_0
or rent a suite.
spk_0
And yeah, that was pretty much the beginning.
spk_0
I got my LLC, got my ducks in a row,
spk_0
got all my supplies,
spk_0
and then, yeah, here I am.
spk_0
So my transition into business ownership
spk_0
and working out of a suite
spk_0
instead of out of a full-fledged salon setting
spk_0
came out of just time
spk_0
I think, but also the setting that I was in,
spk_0
I kind of got to space where I was.
spk_0
It was time to transition.
spk_0
And so now I'm here in a suite.
spk_0
On year, because of the 30th,
spk_0
I think it'll be three years in December.
spk_0
So like, over two and a half years.
spk_0
Amazing!
spk_0
These days, I,
spk_0
for me at least,
spk_0
it all started with my cabbage vegetable,
spk_0
chow, chow, and,
spk_0
maybe a favor you know what I'm talking about.
spk_0
I don't have one, but I saw this one.
spk_0
Yes, so I did everything with a,
spk_0
to that poor little doll.
spk_0
I found out that, please don't chow this at home.
spk_0
But I found out that if you,
spk_0
perfume has alcohol in it,
spk_0
so it's spritz.
spk_0
But I wasn't going to go to the store
spk_0
at that young age and think spritz.
spk_0
But it smelled like it had some,
spk_0
I don't know what mate can do this.
spk_0
But I spritzed her hair down from here.
spk_0
And I curled it with a hot crowd iron.
spk_0
Didn't know, no, it curled.
spk_0
And she had spritz curls in her hair.
spk_0
What's the hair man?
spk_0
You're right.
spk_0
No, something to mark.
spk_0
But I think it's corn silk or something like that.
spk_0
That the hair was made out of.
spk_0
And that, listen, like,
spk_0
for I and Don and me to decide that they had everything,
spk_0
that was my daughter.
spk_0
That was my daughter.
spk_0
Before I had it,
spk_0
you know, the little holes,
spk_0
each individual hole,
spk_0
and them that was big,
spk_0
can't match up at all,
spk_0
and even hard,
spk_0
must have been a few times with that thing.
spk_0
But each individual hole,
spk_0
I took the time to braid each individual hole
spk_0
in that can't match up.
spk_0
So one year,
spk_0
yeah, and then I used glue and glue ends together.
spk_0
Because you couldn't put rubber bands on.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But it's washable.
spk_0
So I'm going to say I did everything,
spk_0
except for color,
spk_0
to that cabbage patch top.
spk_0
I'm here for it.
spk_0
Learn how to braid,
spk_0
all that stuff on that doll.
spk_0
And I just really loved how creative I could be
spk_0
with just that experience.
spk_0
Passing technology for me was something that was always
spk_0
on the back of my mind.
spk_0
spk_0
You know, you're done.
spk_0
You don't know what you want to do when you grow up.
spk_0
I think that's a really big question for kids,
spk_0
but it is something to think about.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
spk_0
I graduated high school,
spk_0
and I wanted to come to Oklahoma.
spk_0
I wanted to be here,
spk_0
real bad,
spk_0
real bad,
spk_0
I was question video,
spk_0
but it's a little bit about Ruth Trillum,
spk_0
about Central.
spk_0
Oh, okay.
spk_0
Central in particular.
spk_0
And I was like,
spk_0
yeah, I'm going to come to Oklahoma.
spk_0
I'm going to take a year,
spk_0
because I live out of state,
spk_0
right?
spk_0
But pay,
spk_0
double dissolution.
spk_0
So I was like,
spk_0
I'm going to take a year off.
spk_0
I'm just going to be a school,
spk_0
because that's what I want to do eventually.
spk_0
I don't know when.
spk_0
So I want to be a school,
spk_0
and I'm going to do it.
spk_0
It came down here,
spk_0
and had a baby.
spk_0
I had my babies,
spk_0
and that while I was becoming a mother,
spk_0
I didn't nails for a really long time,
spk_0
until COVID.
spk_0
And then after COVID,
spk_0
I was like,
spk_0
is the world ending?
spk_0
And I never pursued my passion.
spk_0
Like my actual passion.
spk_0
Why didn't I take that leap?
spk_0
Why didn't I take that risk?
spk_0
So I was like, you know what?
spk_0
What do I have to lose?
spk_0
My husband is doing what he has to do.
spk_0
And I'm jobless now,
spk_0
because COVID,
spk_0
let me go and pursue my passion,
spk_0
and that's when I went to
spk_0
the salon where I met her.
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
And that's how I got there.
spk_0
How I got here at the Brooklyn Brown Zone,
spk_0
I had already created my L.O.C. and stuff
spk_0
from doing nails
spk_0
and trying to figure out things during COVID.
spk_0
I just transitioned that into what here's the one.
spk_0
And I was deeply inspired by Ryan's story
spk_0
and seeing her glow the way that she did
spk_0
and what to do that night.
spk_0
I was like, yo,
spk_0
I'm so like ready to be out of this situation.
spk_0
And I was just like, okay,
spk_0
now I'm inspired.
spk_0
And just things took a turn,
spk_0
where I was just like, all right,
spk_0
I'm not happy here.
spk_0
I'm going to do this.
spk_0
I'm just going to go,
spk_0
I was kind of pushed up and mess to be honest.
spk_0
But I'm just going to do what I need to do.
spk_0
And literally seven days,
spk_0
I was like, let me find something.
spk_0
And in this week's span,
spk_0
I have to do something.
spk_0
I got to sign sweet with my last paycheck,
spk_0
for everything I needed.
spk_0
And just when I offade,
spk_0
prayed off my business and said,
spk_0
you take it.
spk_0
You take it, God take it.
spk_0
And you do what it is that you don't want me to do in this space.
spk_0
And that's how I got there.
spk_0
Now, I want you guys to hear that.
spk_0
In a week.
spk_0
Literally.
spk_0
This is one of the set up a business.
spk_0
A lot.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Amazing.
spk_0
I was amazed.
spk_0
And I was just like, how, how, how, how,
spk_0
you probably thought the same way.
spk_0
Like, what am I doing?
spk_0
Like, it's a very, very scary situation.
spk_0
At least for me it was.
spk_0
And I just didn't know how I'm going to get clients,
spk_0
how I'm missing them.
spk_0
But if people want you, they will find you.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That's so true because, I mean, you know the backstory.
spk_0
There were some clients that didn't know that I love,
spk_0
didn't know where I was going,
spk_0
but knew that I was with somewhere.
spk_0
And, you know, it's kind of tapering off at this point.
spk_0
But with my, with my first year and a half,
spk_0
people were finding me.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
All types of ways.
spk_0
Instagram.
spk_0
Reddit.
spk_0
Searching.
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
If that is your client and they want you,
spk_0
they're going to find you.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Plus I'm telling you where you're at.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
If they asked me, I'm going to tell them.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So she is.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I have accounts of people who are like,
spk_0
yeah, I have no idea.
spk_0
Nobody told me.
spk_0
And that, that's what really bothered me.
spk_0
That was one of the reasons why I was just like,
spk_0
why don't they know?
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
If what was said in the beginning was supposed to be
spk_0
what it was, why don't they know?
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
It's kind of crazy for your class to go through that.
spk_0
That's not fair.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That's not fair to you who put your services.
spk_0
And you know, you worked.
spk_0
You worked hard.
spk_0
We all worked hard.
spk_0
Very hard.
spk_0
And I just don't think that was right.
spk_0
And that's kind of something that really,
spk_0
really turned me off and made me feel like so.
spk_0
If I ever decided to do my own thing,
spk_0
well, that looked like if you can do that to her,
spk_0
what would you do to me?
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
And that kind of also a reason why I was like,
spk_0
yeah, no.
spk_0
So she left in the stuff I left in January.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Pretty much.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And my transition from...
spk_0
So my transition was longer than yours.
spk_0
Okay, straight back.
spk_0
Did you know I had a...
spk_0
Weekends, maybe.
spk_0
Because I finished up a week.
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
You finished up a week.
spk_0
And you had a week to prep.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
At first date.
spk_0
I worked at 30.
spk_0
30-ish day notice.
spk_0
Probably the most stressful 30 days of my life,
spk_0
just because of how things were handled.
spk_0
Which further let me know, yes,
spk_0
it is time to transition.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And so...
spk_0
Another reason why.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
And then I went to the list, if you will,
spk_0
of a wise time.
spk_0
Why is transition?
spk_0
And it's been great.
spk_0
For both of us, we've both been successful.
spk_0
We've made some major moves.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Since transition.
spk_0
So...
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
A little bit later.
spk_0
And like, no, you can leave today.
spk_0
And I'm just like, just because I said,
spk_0
I'm happy you can leave today.
spk_0
It's crazy.
spk_0
That's insane.
spk_0
Instead of saying,
spk_0
how can we make this thing?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Oh man.
spk_0
I didn't know you weren't happy.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
To be honest, I didn't see myself leaving.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
I didn't want to, because I believed in...
spk_0
Everything.
spk_0
Like, I believed in the black business.
spk_0
I believed in the sisterhood.
spk_0
All the things that were sold in the beginning.
spk_0
I believed in that.
spk_0
And I thought that that would be a thing.
spk_0
But the misunderstanding of you,
spk_0
I felt like that was wrong.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And...
spk_0
That's a really good reason.
spk_0
Because you were strong employee.
spk_0
You were hard.
spk_0
You worked hours.
spk_0
And hours.
spk_0
From son up to son down.
spk_0
A lunch break.
spk_0
All the things.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And to fumble that was crazy.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Because even in our newness,
spk_0
a two coming back to the salon,
spk_0
and I'll come moderate between everybody.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That was special to me.
spk_0
You know, I felt like that was extremely special to have someone who enjoys the same thing you're doing.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
And being able to lift each other genuinely.
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
I felt real.
spk_0
I feel real.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But I think in the beginning,
spk_0
I felt a lot of that, but I would say
spk_0
those last,
spk_0
I don't know what,
spk_0
six months of me being there.
spk_0
Yeah, I know.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Not so much.
spk_0
Which again, led up to me leaving.
spk_0
Yeah, I would say I was mishandled.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Very much so.
spk_0
Like I said, my transition was a 30 day span of...
spk_0
I don't know.
spk_0
I don't want to...
spk_0
Did you divulge the information?
spk_0
Maybe not all of it.
spk_0
But just a lot of things,
spk_0
a lot of, um...
spk_0
I mean, I would say,
spk_0
hatefulness,
spk_0
lies, some...
spk_0
Some of everything.
spk_0
And, um...
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I had a lot of encouragement though from my parents, my mom and my dad,
spk_0
and also my boyfriend,
spk_0
and then also from the end of, you know...
spk_0
Um...
spk_0
Kedemy informed.
spk_0
No.
spk_0
And then, um...
spk_0
Like I said, both my parents being so...
spk_0
You know...
spk_0
Just so encouraging,
spk_0
like, just let me know whatever happens at the end of your time there.
spk_0
You know, whatever you're permitted or not permitted to do as far as clientele.
spk_0
We got you.
spk_0
You know, and not even just we got you,
spk_0
but you will be successful.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
You will get new clients.
spk_0
You will have business.
spk_0
Same thing with my boyfriend just being white.
spk_0
With the utmost confidence,
spk_0
you'll be busy.
spk_0
Right?
spk_0
You'll be busy.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
How do you...
spk_0
Who tells you?
spk_0
Who tells you that?
spk_0
Just, you know,
spk_0
like, is something to be said about your family or your loved ones being so confident in you?
spk_0
They just speak white.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
They don't worry about it.
spk_0
Don't worry about it.
spk_0
My husband's saying.
spk_0
My husband's saying.
spk_0
He was like, okay.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
It was like, I got you.
spk_0
Don't even worry about it.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Don't even worry about it.
spk_0
I got you.
spk_0
No.
spk_0
My mom was like, yeah.
spk_0
Go ahead.
spk_0
Do what you do.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Don't worry about it.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Now, that support is...
spk_0
priceless.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
You cannot put a price on that because it's everything when you're in those moments when you have some doubt.
spk_0
You and I was going, oh, you feel uncertain.
spk_0
Somebody you love and that loves you for real, for real coming to you and being like, girl, you got this.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
My mom was like, wait a minute.
spk_0
I mean, you...
spk_0
We always thought this was just...
spk_0
That, and literally, people who sat in my chair said, yeah.
spk_0
I was like, did you...
spk_0
Because I really did not see myself going anywhere.
spk_0
I thought, oh, this is great.
spk_0
This is my career.
spk_0
This is what I'm doing for the rest of my life.
spk_0
I'm being with this company.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
And, um, yeah.
spk_0
The client sat in my chair and said, yeah, I can't figure that you were going soon.
spk_0
And I was just like, that's great.
spk_0
How did you know?
spk_0
And I know it.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
Because before these got too bad, I wasn't thinking about that at all.
spk_0
spk_0
Like...
spk_0
Because you were doing that.
spk_0
I was thinking about you.
spk_0
spk_0
And you're happy.
spk_0
You're doing it professionally for maybe two years at the time.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So, I was thinking about going where I'm still learning.
spk_0
So, you know, but, you know, things change very quickly.
spk_0
And life sometimes.
spk_0
And I think that's what happened with us.
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
One day to another, things are different now.
spk_0
I was strongly encouraged by learning.
spk_0
Like, she came in and told you she was lonely.
spk_0
Like, she was so happy.
spk_0
And I'm just seeing her like...
spk_0
I don't even know.
spk_0
Oh my god.
spk_0
I didn't even know.
spk_0
Like, she won't put it in the middle of you knowing.
spk_0
I said, how's everything going?
spk_0
She said, you know, she's growing.
spk_0
She's getting through it.
spk_0
And she's learning.
spk_0
And I'm just like, yeah, then.
spk_0
spk_0
But, you know, I think our people were right that we did grow.
spk_0
I think we grew frequently.
spk_0
You know, we had clients that followed us.
spk_0
We had clients that found us.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Like, some people say they go to you and they're like, yeah, they're seeing Vienna.
spk_0
And whatever.
spk_0
Or they come to me and they say, I was like, yeah, she's right here.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
I'm right here.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And also, new people.
spk_0
A lot of new people, when you don't do certain things,
spk_0
you suddenly need to be in vice versa.
spk_0
And I feel like, and then after that, I think the biggest way besides social media is such me that's cool.
spk_0
But, word about it.
spk_0
I think it takes it every time because somebody got a sister, somebody got a cousin.
spk_0
And I got a brother who needs a son.
spk_0
You call her?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
You've got co-workers.
spk_0
You've got co-workers.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
It's the word I'm out.
spk_0
And then also, I think we grew quickly and relatively seamlessly because I think we have integrity.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And we're good people.
spk_0
And that filters through everything that we do.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
You know, so you can't make that.
spk_0
I mean, you can try.
spk_0
You can't.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
You can try to make it.
spk_0
But at some point, people are going to see, like, oh, she got my tear.
spk_0
That's the facade.
spk_0
That's the facade.
spk_0
What's that got to do with the fog?
spk_0
I made it behind the curtain.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I know it's ruined.
spk_0
The blue is.
spk_0
The blue is.
spk_0
What's the blue is there?
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
And you put a curtain back.
spk_0
You got a magic.
spk_0
You got a magic.
spk_0
spk_0
You're worried.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That's how we got here.
spk_0
That's how we got here.
spk_0
We are business owners.
spk_0
I'm two and a half years in.
spk_0
You're like the same.
spk_0
Oh my gosh.
spk_0
Because that's how it's in January.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
No, it's not in February.
spk_0
I thought it was in January.
spk_0
It was good.
spk_0
Everything literally.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
spk_0
I looked on the 7.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
My sweet number is 7.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Seven days to build this alarm.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
February 7 is my start date.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
You know we're 7?
spk_0
I'm number.
spk_0
I'm number.
spk_0
Number of things.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
June or 7.
spk_0
You just want to give her a birthday gift.
spk_0
She's coming up in a few months.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Ooh, we have three parties for you.
spk_0
Eeeeee.
spk_0
I'm turning 30 in December.
spk_0
Oh my god.
spk_0
Of this year.
spk_0
I'm so excited.
spk_0
On the 19th.
spk_0
I don't know what I'm going to do.
spk_0
I don't know what I'm going to do.
spk_0
I'm going to figure it out.
spk_0
I'm going to figure it out.
spk_0
Yeah, figure it out.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So, that's how we got here.
spk_0
Imposter syndrome.
spk_0
How do you feel about that?
spk_0
I don't know.
spk_0
Like, I'm not necessarily like imposter.
spk_0
Like, I'm doing stuff in unsure what I'm doing.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But more so looking at social media, for example.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
Seeing things and being like, oh, that's going to be more important.
spk_0
About certain things.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And how can I always wanted to be a student?
spk_0
Not necessarily always a teacher.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But I think that's what my version of that would be.
spk_0
It was like, how can I know more?
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I think for me, I do have a touch of Imposter syndrome.
spk_0
Like, I feel like there's been at least one or twice where I was like, oh, I did it here
spk_0
and I was so unsure.
spk_0
spk_0
But then I sent it to her and she's like, oh, you did it right.
spk_0
I forgot when she said it one time when I sent you a picture of a haircut that I was unsure
spk_0
about.
spk_0
I think you said, trust your gift or something like that.
spk_0
I was like, real tears.
spk_0
Wait, are you saying I'm good?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So, yeah, like, sometimes, one of those like, two-strand twists, locks, still pressed up
spk_0
like that.
spk_0
Like, I don't really feel Imposter syndrome with that.
spk_0
But it may be something like, maybe I'm still working on or something I'm still learning
spk_0
or something that I can do, but I'm not super experienced with it.
spk_0
That, you know, I don't necessarily trust my gift.
spk_0
Sometimes I feel weird even saying that I have a gift, but that's not right.
spk_0
You know, so.
spk_0
But I think also not so much now, but sometimes I've dealt with like, I don't know this is Imposter syndrome,
spk_0
but almost like, okay, so I want a business where people come and like, get their hair done.
spk_0
Like, do what trust me to do their hair.
spk_0
And, oh, my day to day, like, I'm just working.
spk_0
I'm not thinking about that day to day, but sometimes in my five-time, like, yo, I saw five people today
spk_0
and they all trusted me to do their hair.
spk_0
Really?
spk_0
Yeah, I know you feel like.
spk_0
I'm not like, I'm in disbelief, but it's just like, whoa, like, out of body kind of sort of.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Like, thinking about it from the outside perspective, like, people not saying they shouldn't trust me,
spk_0
don't be saying that.
spk_0
I'm not saying you shouldn't trust me.
spk_0
I'm just amazed at having built a business and it's running and it's successful.
spk_0
And I have clients that trust me, like, that's dope.
spk_0
That's amazing, you know, to have built a client's hill.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Like, a regular client's hill.
spk_0
I'm excited.
spk_0
When I see all people that I know, like, for several, like, a whole day of people, I'm like,
spk_0
oh, there's gonna be a good day.
spk_0
Like, look, I'm like, talking to her.
spk_0
She's not gonna have, I can't even ask her about this.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
The follow-ups.
spk_0
The follow-ups.
spk_0
She said they're like, yeah.
spk_0
So, how do you feel about, mm-hmm.
spk_0
I'm like, ooh, mm-hmm.
spk_0
I'm like, you're really trying to have that.
spk_0
I mean, what happened?
spk_0
Yeah, tell me.
spk_0
Or those clients, like, I have a couple clients of all different April,
spk_0
but I haven't told them that anytime they come in, we gotta talk about politics.
spk_0
We have to talk about the current events and this crazy political climate that we're in.
spk_0
I know I think God is about that.
spk_0
Yeah, I know.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
A lot of people come in and they see stuff.
spk_0
I mean, we work with black women.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So, and today's climate, we're literally being attacked.
spk_0
So, literally, literally, bister cuffs.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So, we gotta debrief.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
We gotta debrief.
spk_0
Which, you know, this is because we're black people, we can debrief safely, comfortably.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But this is the black space, which I really appreciate, you know, if I ever thought about not doing here in Japanese,
spk_0
I would not go back to any sort of corporate setting because I can't talk how I want to talk.
spk_0
And I can't beat it.
spk_0
My people all day.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
We've been doing this for way too long.
spk_0
It's way too long.
spk_0
It's been way too long.
spk_0
It's a try to re-reconcline into society.
spk_0
I don't even know what that would look like.
spk_0
What do you mean I can't wear a gun tonight?
spk_0
Right?
spk_0
Huh?
spk_0
So, my bees are a problem.
spk_0
You said my bees are loud.
spk_0
Excuse me?
spk_0
Who the fuck?
spk_0
My bees are distracting you.
spk_0
Chocolate.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
What else?
spk_0
Oh, our personalities.
spk_0
We can talk about that.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
As a stylist, even getting into it in the beginning is easier because you're in a group setting.
spk_0
You're kind of coached into how to talk to people and things like that, even from my experience being a nil tech.
spk_0
You just get to learn how to do that.
spk_0
But that can be...
spk_0
I don't want to say intimidating, but it can be like if that's not your norm.
spk_0
If you're not naturally an extrovert, yes.
spk_0
It can be a little scary, especially in the beginning, like as a beginner stylist,
spk_0
just getting to talk to people.
spk_0
But I feel like even in beauty school, I kind of had to outgrow that.
spk_0
And then you have your teachers and stuff alongside you.
spk_0
Kind of teaching you not to talk to people.
spk_0
And I feel like that's the only...
spk_0
And it's led me in my personal life to be a little bit more extroverted.
spk_0
And I'm able to easily communicate with people.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But I'm not a talker.
spk_0
Like, naturally I'm not a talker.
spk_0
Unless I'm...
spk_0
You know you because we be...
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
We be cutting up.
spk_0
But I'm not naturally a talker.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And contrary to what my boyfriend thinks, I'm not an extrovert.
spk_0
And like, I'm just not...
spk_0
I would say, yeah, we've been home boring before.
spk_0
Ooh.
spk_0
I was...
spk_0
Wait, what did you get home from?
spk_0
You didn't remember?
spk_0
You were like, you're home boring.
spk_0
Because we're not like out there and...
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I guess I'm more in there.
spk_0
You know when I was being home boring?
spk_0
I was like, I can't remember it.
spk_0
But uh...
spk_0
You know who called us boring?
spk_0
And then we have a ton of hard work.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
So I don't have any issues.
spk_0
Who's talking about...
spk_0
Who's boring?
spk_0
Who's boring?
spk_0
I'm not bored.
spk_0
I'm not bored.
spk_0
But yeah, I'm...
spk_0
And it's safe.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
It's safe.
spk_0
Like, I'm never going to be extroverted with someone I don't feel safe with.
spk_0
Because like, yeah.
spk_0
I'm not truly being myself.
spk_0
Like, fully myself.
spk_0
Not even truly, but fully myself.
spk_0
I don't trust like that.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I mean, cool so people can.
spk_0
That's not me.
spk_0
But it's not me.
spk_0
But I'm the range range.
spk_0
It's not me.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So I'm not an extrovert.
spk_0
I'm an introvert.
spk_0
And like you said, I did learn though how...
spk_0
Like, not that I had to learn.
spk_0
It was like, I was a weirdo.
spk_0
But like, you kind of learn how to socialize.
spk_0
And how to socialize in a way that's comfortable for you.
spk_0
But you're still socializing.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
You know.
spk_0
But then also...
spk_0
Sometimes clients are not extroverted.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I don't remember who had clients like Donald Trump.
spk_0
I have a little talk on.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And I'm chronically fed.
spk_0
You need to.
spk_0
I'm perfectly okay with that.
spk_0
In fact, I can vibe with that actually.
spk_0
Yeah, yeah.
spk_0
I only do I not dislike it.
spk_0
I actually like it.
spk_0
Enjoy it.
spk_0
I enjoy it.
spk_0
Because to be honest,
spk_0
in a state, for example, you know, four people.
spk_0
Four people look at it.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Sometimes it's eight.
spk_0
Imagine trying to start eight conversations
spk_0
with eight different people about things all day.
spk_0
Sometimes that in itself.
spk_0
You don't need...
spk_0
And it's not even like in the moment you're realizing
spk_0
that this is a lot.
spk_0
Until like, you close the door one final time.
spk_0
And you're like, you're all tired.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Social battery strength.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Seriously.
spk_0
And it's like being in a suite,
spk_0
I think can be like two things at once.
spk_0
Being in a suite can be great for stylists
spk_0
who isn't introvert.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
Because you're not in some of them saying
spk_0
with a bunch of other stylists and other clients.
spk_0
And clients like it too, especially clients that are introverted.
spk_0
spk_0
But also,
spk_0
depending on who you are,
spk_0
how you think it could feel like a little bit of pressure.
spk_0
Too talk, because it's just you two in here.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
But I don't know, I think it was a practice.
spk_0
It depends on how you think about your day.
spk_0
You know that.
spk_0
And how you prepare yourself.
spk_0
And your relationship with your clients too.
spk_0
Because most of my clients at this point are regular.
spk_0
It's that I see them right.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Because I see new people.
spk_0
But I know my clients are required.
spk_0
I know before they come in,
spk_0
it's going to be a chill time.
spk_0
And then we just come five to the music.
spk_0
And that's how we get it.
spk_0
And then I come up on the two.
spk_0
And we've been to cut up.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
We've got to cut up.
spk_0
We've got to cut up.
spk_0
I like the rain being my last plan on Saturday.
spk_0
Sometimes.
spk_0
Because our point has cut the schedule for hour and 30 minutes.
spk_0
We've been there for like three hours.
spk_0
Just cutting up.
spk_0
Yep.
spk_0
And then it's a hangout session.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
Look here.
spk_0
That was your day.
spk_0
Challenge.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
Gee, not this.
spk_0
Ladies.
spk_0
But yeah, I think overall being in a suite is good for introverted people.
spk_0
Because you know, you can kind of get your client one on one.
spk_0
Like I've had clients where they came with me to my suite.
spk_0
But I met them and started doing their hair at the salon.
spk_0
And we came from.
spk_0
And my day there for a year,
spk_0
you didn't have, didn't really talk much.
spk_0
You don't know much about them.
spk_0
That's true.
spk_0
But then when we came to the street clothes,
spk_0
they're in a box like a z-yal to me.
spk_0
Like, who are you?
spk_0
You learn so much stuff about these people.
spk_0
Some people, I know they had children.
spk_0
Really?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
They didn't really have children.
spk_0
They didn't know what kind of word they did because they were so quiet.
spk_0
And I just allowed them to be quiet.
spk_0
You kind of sense this person's not a talker.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That's fine.
spk_0
Or even, is it, is it, are they comfortable talking in such an open space?
spk_0
Exactly.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I think for some of our clients,
spk_0
it's more so bad.
spk_0
Like, they may not have been rude.
spk_0
Comfortable.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But in a while, I'm saying.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And you get a little deeper with them about different stuff that's going on.
spk_0
Like, that I don't feel like I'd ever, if it wasn't,
spk_0
like, certain open family events and different things that happen to people live.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And it feels like a safer place.
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
To have those kind of conversations.
spk_0
And it's not like more to like, hey, you know, what do we, like,
spk_0
like, a child talk about it sometimes.
spk_0
It's just like as soon as they sit down, they're like, oh, I can't wait for today.
spk_0
I can't.
spk_0
I love that.
spk_0
spk_0
Like, who can't wait till do you cry?
spk_0
I'm going to tell you what it is.
spk_0
I can't wait.
spk_0
But it's all week after you shampooed.
spk_0
I'm really needed that.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I have.
spk_0
I have.
spk_0
If I see somebody coming through my door and they just look heavy.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
You okay?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And I feel like it's easier to do that.
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
Like, hey, are you okay?
spk_0
And sometimes that's the straw that broke the camel's neck.
spk_0
And they're able to get that off.
spk_0
And I'm just like, it's okay.
spk_0
And I give them a hug.
spk_0
And even in that hug, you're like, you know, I'm really needed that.
spk_0
Sometimes I'm hugging and I'm ready to let go.
spk_0
And it just like, they locked it.
spk_0
I'm like, come on.
spk_0
spk_0
Yeah, no, but seriously, yeah.
spk_0
Some people really need a hug.
spk_0
Especially people like, um, brother's elves or whatever.
spk_0
Like, the strong friend.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
The strong friends need hugs.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Because they're going to do life for real.
spk_0
And they come to the door and just like, sometimes I'm having the same hug.
spk_0
I'm just like, hey, and I'll hug them and they won't let go.
spk_0
And I'm just like, come on.
spk_0
And they're like, well, what will you do?
spk_0
You're home.
spk_0
I'm going to cry.
spk_0
I'm going to tear up.
spk_0
I cried with the client before.
spk_0
She was dealing with a loss.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I was like, in tears.
spk_0
How do you feel when they feel?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I feel like touching people's head in itself is, excuse me, it's a transfer.
spk_0
It's a, yeah, for sure.
spk_0
And I feel like sometimes it's a transfer and you may not even register it as that.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
What is happening, you know, even just being in a room with someone like, yeah,
spk_0
you can, it's a transfer.
spk_0
It's like, yeah, it really is.
spk_0
I had the opposite happen where I was going through some stuff.
spk_0
And I just, it was just one of those mornings where you just feel so heavy.
spk_0
Yeah, there's so much on your mind.
spk_0
You're dealing with whatever you're dealing with.
spk_0
And I had a client come in, her normal perky cell, super full, leopard dead.
spk_0
And she came in, she was like, hey girl, let's go to her room.
spk_0
How are you?
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
And I don't know what her response was, but of course I said, I'm okay.
spk_0
I said, no, I'm good.
spk_0
Whatever was about my face or my voice or whatever, she knew instantly that sometimes was not right.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And she was like sitting at first though because sometimes she'll have like a last or whatever.
spk_0
So she was sitting up and she stopped and she was like, what's wrong?
spk_0
And of course I was like, oh, I'm good.
spk_0
Mind you, versus you.
spk_0
She don't ask me twice how I do it.
spk_0
It's building up to brain.
spk_0
I'm sorry, choke up.
spk_0
spk_0
So after you get off doing it, you're going to start crying.
spk_0
And it's crazy how many times we may have to come in like that.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But our day totally does a 360 and kind of turns around by the end of the day.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Because of the people that you've interacted with.
spk_0
And it did that day because she asked me again how I was doing.
spk_0
No, she asked me that second time and I said, I'm good.
spk_0
And she said, are you sure?
spk_0
And I said, yeah, then I turned around to get something out of the cabinet.
spk_0
And I just, oh my god, the tears are just coming down.
spk_0
Oh, and I just couldn't help it.
spk_0
Like you were just starting crying.
spk_0
And I just, yeah, I hate to ask you.
spk_0
That's instantly going to start crying.
spk_0
I'm going to cry right now.
spk_0
Right now.
spk_0
Right now.
spk_0
Or, to...
spk_0
But it's like I couldn't help it.
spk_0
The tears were coming out and it couldn't even stop.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And I didn't want her to see me crying.
spk_0
But I couldn't.
spk_0
Like I had to, you know, like how do you come with that up?
spk_0
I couldn't lose, because it was a quarter like, and I didn't have any tears yet.
spk_0
I had to clean the next day.
spk_0
I ran out.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And she just came over and braced me.
spk_0
And she prayed over me.
spk_0
And I just held on to that lady.
spk_0
And I was like, that gives so much.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And, you know, I didn't talk to her about what was going on,
spk_0
because it was very fresh.
spk_0
But that helped me.
spk_0
It really did.
spk_0
And I really did have a better day.
spk_0
I was not...
spk_0
Before she came in, I was not a track.
spk_0
Back to having that day, I just wasn't.
spk_0
And it was going to probably be one of those days,
spk_0
but you just kind of like pushed through it.
spk_0
Which we have to do a lot.
spk_0
But it's not always good to do that.
spk_0
And so was I embarrassed that I cried?
spk_0
Not really.
spk_0
spk_0
I will say, I wish I hadn't cried.
spk_0
spk_0
But I think I probably needed that.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I thought I'd cry again.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And it's funny, because that day that she came in was not her usual time.
spk_0
Or day that she comes.
spk_0
But for some reason, she had to switch it.
spk_0
So if we had kept her normal schedule, she would have came in that day.
spk_0
And I would have had someone else in her place.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And I mean, I have gotten that boost that I needed.
spk_0
So we were kind of saying, you were kind of joking, saying it.
spk_0
You probably did need that, because I wasn't really supposed to be here today.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So that was dope.
spk_0
Shout out to her.
spk_0
Hey girl.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That was, that was like pretty much needed.
spk_0
So sometimes your clients will give you a boost.
spk_0
It just isn't as old kind of your hair when it's old.
spk_0
And sometimes clients may give you a boost.
spk_0
They don't even know you're going to give you a boost.
spk_0
They just read something that you can buy your client.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That's so deep.
spk_0
That's so beautiful.
spk_0
This is the moment that we relish in as that relationship that you build.
spk_0
I really enjoyed that.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
For a long time, I was a stay at home, I had no friends.
spk_0
I moved to a whole new city.
spk_0
And it's just like, at the time when I met you, I knew no one.
spk_0
Like, yeah.
spk_0
So it was just like, okay, let's see what this holds.
spk_0
But in this process, the beauty of this, that you get to meet so many different people.
spk_0
You do.
spk_0
You do.
spk_0
I can't help it with other people.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Do you have any clients that you feel like you can be friends with?
spk_0
Oh, absolutely.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Absolutely.
spk_0
My best friends are here, so I was too.
spk_0
If you don't know how, she's in New York, she's a prettier.
spk_0
Her name is Naisha Stiles, 20th century.
spk_0
But she's a braider.
spk_0
And she, she goes out with her clients all the time.
spk_0
Like, they become her good friends.
spk_0
That's the same.
spk_0
So I haven't gotten here yet.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But I'm excited to, I know, inspire.
spk_0
You're a good woman, see?
spk_0
I'm excited to, yeah.
spk_0
I have some clients for sure that I'm like, yo.
spk_0
Maybe weird if I'm like, hey, you know, you know, you're gonna go with me and just,
spk_0
that's the kind of braiding that you miss in me.
spk_0
Like, you want to go to the brandy content too?
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
What kind of brand you're in?
spk_0
Oh, you go, you go to the initial, silver bar.
spk_0
Hmm.
spk_0
Should we be up?
spk_0
Right?
spk_0
Like, how do you do that?
spk_0
I don't know.
spk_0
I guess in this new age, it's just kind of hard to figure out how to make friends.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I don't know how to make friends who these are.
spk_0
You know, I met Diana because we work together and she's not.
spk_0
I'm not seeing how people meet.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Because I do work, but we work with, like, just in my room.
spk_0
But, like, I'm not someone, I don't like, forced, yeah, me neither.
spk_0
Or like, I'm not someone who would drive out of network even.
spk_0
I don't know where you know, because we're integrated.
spk_0
I'm not gonna walk up to people.
spk_0
spk_0
What do we need to say?
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
But I'm learning, and I'm trying.
spk_0
But I don't, this is not naturally me.
spk_0
So that's maybe where my imposter syndrome could kick in because it's just like, I don't
spk_0
do this.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But I feel like it's like almost a persona that you have to have.
spk_0
Because I feel like even if I did, it feels so, because, yeah, it's awkward for me.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I don't know what to say.
spk_0
And then I'm overthinking what I'm gonna say.
spk_0
And then you say, some crazy.
spk_0
So, I like to tell.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
Like, that's a good color.
spk_0
Like, that's a great color.
spk_0
What if, maybe I should get them.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
Would I get my toes?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Do your toes come after your mom or your dad?
spk_0
That's weird.
spk_0
That's weird.
spk_0
I don't give a f.
spk_0
No.
spk_0
No, I've never said anything that I've heard.
spk_0
But it's just, it's just, it doesn't come naturally.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So what about, like, gay overstimulated?
spk_0
Do you ever feel like, you know, overstimulated every day?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I have children.
spk_0
I can't care.
spk_0
I can't obviously lay it out.
spk_0
I don't have children.
spk_0
How we got overstimulated?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I'm gonna bet overstimulated.
spk_0
I eat food overstimulated.
spk_0
No, seriously.
spk_0
But I'm trying, at least in this season in my life, shout out to being in your thirties
spk_0
because I feel like that does, like, even when you're inching towards your thirties,
spk_0
you start to feel like, sometimes, a shift, like, you want some different.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Like, something to change.
spk_0
Like, yeah.
spk_0
You can't keep doing the same things you've been doing.
spk_0
For me, at least right now, this is my first year in my thirties.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And I'm just like, I'm always in search of peace.
spk_0
And I feel like every year, I start up with something.
spk_0
Like, when I started my salon, I was, I wanted to start the yoga gratitude.
spk_0
Just be thankful.
spk_0
Thank God for everything.
spk_0
Despite how it happened or whatever it was, just, just letting him hold it all.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And, you know, just be thankful.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Everything.
spk_0
On slow days, I'm like, thank you.
spk_0
God, maybe I need it.
spk_0
And I still carry on with those things throughout the year, then just build onto that.
spk_0
And this year, I'm in the space of peace.
spk_0
Trying to rebalance my life because I feel very unbalanced.
spk_0
Girl, me too.
spk_0
So unbalanced.
spk_0
Because what we're used to from where we started as a hairstylist,
spk_0
it's hard to transition out of that.
spk_0
It really is.
spk_0
Because it's just like, you need to see so many people to make a certain amount that you want to make.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That was a thing.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And it's just like, I'm exhausted.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I'm exhausted.
spk_0
But I want to be able to send my kids to dance class.
spk_0
I want to be able to do these things.
spk_0
So I'm going to work.
spk_0
And I'm going to work.
spk_0
I'm going to be here to, to want to want to see you back at 10.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I'm going to do these things.
spk_0
And it's just like, I'm wearing that.
spk_0
I'm going to do it.
spk_0
It takes a while.
spk_0
I'm still cave.
spk_0
I'm here later than I need to be.
spk_0
But even just switching that mindset of finally being comfortable first of all as a new business owner of how things fall.
spk_0
You kind of see how the chips fall.
spk_0
Because in the beginning you slow on one week.
spk_0
You looking at it.
spk_0
Like, did I make it right?
spk_0
Career choice?
spk_0
Am I doing what I'm supposed to be doing?
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
That's what I'm supposed to do.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
You did the wrong thing.
spk_0
You're not supposed to be doing it.
spk_0
Like, do I need a nine or five?
spk_0
Do I need to do it?
spk_0
spk_0
Do I need to do it?
spk_0
Exactly.
spk_0
Do I need to find something else?
spk_0
And then you get that good week.
spk_0
And then you be like, hmm.
spk_0
And then those slow weeks become fewer and far in between.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And then they're like, and then when they're, they come you're grateful for them.
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
I had to do that too.
spk_0
I started when that, in the beginning, because, you know, I would tell my kids,
spk_0
and I'm like, oh, you know, I'm just looking a little white.
spk_0
I'm going to be like, don't worry about it.
spk_0
Because you've got to come a time where you're going to want them.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So enjoy it now.
spk_0
Because there will be a time where you don't really have these random days
spk_0
where you may only have long lines or whatever.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
And that definitely happened for sure.
spk_0
You know, no, I don't really have slow weeks.
spk_0
So unless it's like, you wish for time to hear your,
spk_0
like a weird mix up if something happened.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Or certain times of the year, where it's a little slower.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But yeah.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I definitely get what we're simulated as well.
spk_0
Usually I'm over simulated by like the end of the day.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Not because I don't like my clients.
spk_0
Oh, I'm sorry.
spk_0
Because the day is just social battery.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That some people don't believe is true.
spk_0
But it is.
spk_0
It exists.
spk_0
And it can go into, I mean, it gets drained.
spk_0
And that's where self care comes in.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Especially for people who are introverted, you got to find a way to reach out.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
For me, I'm remembering that I actually need some of the two.
spk_0
Like I need just me.
spk_0
No, I know.
spk_0
Not me and the boyfriend, not me and mom.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Lorraine needs to go to the movies.
spk_0
Lorraine needs to go by herself to go get brunch.
spk_0
spk_0
Lorraine needs to go to the mall by herself.
spk_0
Lorraine needs to go whatever.
spk_0
And that itself is good.
spk_0
And that's something that I had to learn because I was very much dependent.
spk_0
I depended on like, hey, let me call so and so so we can go here.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Let me do this.
spk_0
That's something I kind of learned.
spk_0
I made 20s.
spk_0
It's like, you got to learn how to do this by yourself.
spk_0
And you're okay with doing things by yourself.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
And fine.
spk_0
Because even if you ask, I'm a child with you.
spk_0
This week, I ask people, do you do things by yourself?
spk_0
And see what they say.
spk_0
And it's a sub-care question.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Do you feel comfortable doing things by yourself?
spk_0
A simple question.
spk_0
Because I didn't for the long time.
spk_0
And it's not like something I was consciously thinking about.
spk_0
And so I started to think about it.
spk_0
And I was just like, I'm going to the movies.
spk_0
Some of us, I was not available.
spk_0
I'm going to go.
spk_0
I was going to see this week.
spk_0
And I'm going to go eat by myself and see how that feels.
spk_0
And it's amazing.
spk_0
It's legit amazing.
spk_0
Most of you get over that hurdle of, I guess, you know, feeling weird about being by yourself.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I mean, I could be by myself at home all day.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
It's not that I do that.
spk_0
But, right.
spk_0
Which you could.
spk_0
I got kids.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And I was good.
spk_0
But, um, which you could.
spk_0
Learning to be by yourself and being okay with that.
spk_0
That's, that's.
spk_0
It really is.
spk_0
I was actually reading about solitude because I was kind of like thinking like,
spk_0
man, how awesome do you get time right?
spk_0
So, what, what, what started this was someone told me that they asked Chad G.P.T.
spk_0
to give them a questionnaire about, just gave them a questionnaire to find out
spk_0
how old their inner child is.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
So pretty cool.
spk_0
So I know my wife talked about that question.
spk_0
I don't know.
spk_0
I can't even answer what made her eyes.
spk_0
But, she actually Chad G.P.T.
spk_0
to give her a questionnaire to figure out how old her inner child is.
spk_0
So I did the same thing.
spk_0
And it said, my child is like a pre-teen.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
And it said that things are my pre-teen because I like being alone a lot.
spk_0
Um, looking for, I can't remember a lot of the words that it said,
spk_0
but basically enjoying learning by myself, enjoying, um, kind of like self-exploration.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And I'm like, if I think back to when I was a pre-teen, that's exactly what I was doing.
spk_0
I like to, I'm always kicking my breath out of the room.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
Um, I'm like, what do you do on my self?
spk_0
You know, you know, whatever I'm doing, like I wanted to be by myself.
spk_0
Not to let it love my family or friends or anything.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
They showed it really wanting that solitude.
spk_0
And I was reading about solitude and it said,
spk_0
it's so healthy even if it's a little bit uncomfortable because that's your time for self-reflection.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That's your time to sort through your thoughts and process things.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
If you always have a lot of distractions, you don't really get enough time to really sit and actually do that.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Um, it's just generally good for you.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
You know, like you said, it's something that's worth learning and getting comfortable with doing.
spk_0
Um, it's very rewarding.
spk_0
It doesn't mean you're gonna do it all the time.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But sometimes find those moments to take those moments.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Find those moments to take those moments.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Because for me, it's definitely a recharge.
spk_0
Because by the time I spend the day by myself, I'm ready to do like,
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
Where's my booth?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
You know, I'm ready to mix and mingle again with you coming that time to like,
spk_0
Yes, I'm like, you said, when that last client leaves for the day,
spk_0
it's in a full, full, full, full day.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
You had a great day, you had great conversations, but you still feel that,
spk_0
Like you drank.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I said, sometimes I'm sitting there, but you know, you be anxious,
spk_0
you be ready to go home.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And then you finish and you're just like, just a minute, just a little bit.
spk_0
You can press.
spk_0
People do it in a car.
spk_0
It's like, you can be sitting in your car for 30 minutes.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
30 minutes or so.
spk_0
In the car.
spk_0
Decompressing is a thing.
spk_0
It is important.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And I think it's all too, you can help you do that, you know,
spk_0
with a longer space span of time.
spk_0
And like you were saying earlier, with one inch, you said something like,
spk_0
like, make some of the cycle, or like, you were kind of doing the same thing,
spk_0
you did a change.
spk_0
spk_0
I definitely am in that space.
spk_0
So like, for me, I would wake up 20 minutes from practically the house to go to work.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
That makes for a very hectic day.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I just posted about that.
spk_0
You did post about that.
spk_0
Yes, yes.
spk_0
You did post about that.
spk_0
You started your day off with anxious energy.
spk_0
You're not going to have a good day.
spk_0
I mean, you might have a good day.
spk_0
You might turn around.
spk_0
But you're just, you're not starting your day off, right?
spk_0
spk_0
And I can't say no myself like, well, rain, this is not a good way to start.
spk_0
I'm just going to keep rushing.
spk_0
Looking for this, looking for that.
spk_0
You don't have any time to eat breakfast.
spk_0
You're walking in the door with 15 minutes of spare for your client is here.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
And so recently, I'm only going to leave one.
spk_0
But it's been great.
spk_0
I have been getting up at 5.45.
spk_0
I'll see you.
spk_0
I never thought I would be this woman.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
But I've been getting up at 5.45 to go for a walk slash run.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
And then, um, yeah, it's been really solitude.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
That's a form of solitude.
spk_0
Yeah, you're grounding yourself.
spk_0
You're grounding yourself and getting yourself ready for the day.
spk_0
Yeah, but I never would have thought about as solitude.
spk_0
But I only listen to music the way I really would when I go and run.
spk_0
Because now I can hear my thoughts.
spk_0
I can hear my rhythm.
spk_0
I can hear my footprints.
spk_0
And it's almost like I'm locked into my body.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Um, for some people that's scary.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I can see that if you're not used to it, I can see that being a little bit more.
spk_0
Or if something like traumatic is happened to you.
spk_0
Sometimes it's not a safe place.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That's a whole mother conversation.
spk_0
Sure.
spk_0
A whole mother's.
spk_0
A whole mother's.
spk_0
It is.
spk_0
That was beautiful.
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
Beautiful, beautiful episode.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
We got through a lot.
spk_0
We did.
spk_0
For the severe host episode.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
Fire.
spk_0
That's what Leslie finally did this.
spk_0
I know.
spk_0
But we've been like, I think, because we tried to kick off the air with a bang.
spk_0
We bought houses.
spk_0
We were with everything.
spk_0
I was like, yeah, yeah.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But I think everything happens in the time it is supposed to happen.
spk_0
We had time to transition, go through some things, and get ourselves together.
spk_0
Gather resources, gather, eclinments.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I mean, right.
spk_0
One time it's right.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
