I think I watched the first two seasons in two days.

Always was a day one guys because some guy when I was listening to audiobooks all the

time at work, just suggested the game of Thrones books.

So did you start the books before you even jumped to the show?

I did.

That's why I was day one because I was pumped.

Yeah, you don't see many day one people and everything.

So I got into it because you told me.

And I understand that too because I worked at my job for nine years.

It was literally the year I started the books.

I think I had like six or seven months and the show was starting.

And I was like so amped up because I could understand things were happening in the trailer

a little bit so I was freaking.

I mean, so you've got a full decade into this.

What was it?

A decade of your life.

It really sucks.

I'd say this is probably my favorite show that's ever been made.

Just judging by my book fandom and then to this.

It's really hard to end it, obviously.

No, I mean, we've been podding it for a long time but I've been enthusiastic about it

for a long time.

Because this is a show that kicked off Ble TV, isn't it?

This one in Walking Dead was why the whole reason we started is that we got every freaking

Monday night, you know, me and my brother were just going bananas about talking about both

shows.

Because they came on around the same time and you'd be finishing up Walking Dead when

Game of Thrones was kicking off typically.

And so...

That's a big part of our life.

And now that schedule's even changed TV wise and it's just like how much has changed

just through?

Yeah.

And it's also just insane how much the show changed like in grew and it's budget changed.

And I mean, I'll be honest, you go back and watch season one, there is a lot of laughable

stuff as far as costumes and hair.

I'm never so the one, just seeing them come out, the nice watching everything, you're
spk_0
like, okay, this is the same show.

Acting wise.

It's definitely morphed into quite more impressive and different areas for sure.

Yeah, I mean, like I said, most of the stuff is set pieces and costume.

I mean, hair is a major thing.

They didn't figure out hair to like season three.

I would say season three is I think when it started to finally get off sprinting in

everything and that's when it...

Well, that's when the budget came with it too.

You know, I realized they had gold here.

Yeah, absolutely.

The budget wasn't too high or anything.

They were still having to do a lot of crafty things, a lot of practical things along with

it.

And then everyone was just learning, the chemistry was good, acting phenomenal, a lot

of just acting parts.

There's a lot like this episode actually.

I mean, there wasn't too much to say, but there's just phenomenal acting going throughout

this entire episode.

That was just like, man, brings it full circle.

And that's the thing, I was going to ask you all, what expectations did you come in with?

Not necessarily what did you think was going to happen, but like, what, after the last

episode where everybody just kind of lost their shit, like I came with no expectations.

Just like, whatever happens is going to happen.

It's like, it's bittersweet no matter what happens.

So it was kind of like, I mean, that was kind of how I came into this episode.

My expectation for the episode was, I want to go away feeling blown away by decisions that

would make everybody really contemplate why you fell in love with the show initially.

When I think of Game of Thrones, I think of at the end of season one, your main character,

the beloved character in my mind, the guy of all this that are so one, he gets, gets
spk_0
beheaded.
spk_0
And it changes the entire landscape of what the show is.

That's what the show ends up becoming is that it's not necessarily a happy ending, it's
spk_0
not necessarily this.
spk_0
They're going to give you something that's more realistic or potential, this that is all
spk_0
on.
spk_0
And so when I wanted this episode, I wanted to see a decision or something happen in the

episode that made me say, that's Game of Thrones for you.

Does that make sense?

Yeah.

You know what I mean?

Was there a pivotal spot or was there one or two things of this episode that makes

you go, that's why I love the show.

That is why I fell in love with the show.

That's why every season when somebody tragically dies or something changes or they flip the

story on its lid and go in a different direction, you're like, holy crap, this is why I freaking

love this.

They're so on.
spk_0
Will they be able to wrap this show up in a way that follows that same line?

You know what I'm saying?

And so that was my expectation going into it.

You know, I don't know about it.

But because I'm assuming no.

You know, I mean like, you know, like last week, I was very bitter, you know what I mean?

And I tried it.

I went back and watched it again.

I thought real hard about it and so on.

You know, and I'm just a guy who trusts my gut, you know, is that when we talked in our

pod, we talked about how the show sets up things for long term and follows through and does

things and gives the viewer that satisfying taste of the drool's gone.

You get the bite, you know what I'm saying?

And when we had the last episode, people have been drooling for years for the culminations
spk_0
of certain prophecies and clues that have been given and this that are so on.

And just like I said, I'm in the go, they decide to flip it on its lid and do something

different than that.

Okay.
spk_0
However, instead of it being something that you go holy crap, that's amazing.

And in the like we said, it's shat on everything that we've been salivating and drooling for
spk_0
for a long period of time.
spk_0
And so this episode was going to be tough no matter what for me.

Yeah.

To try to figure out a way to fix what I considered damage of last episode.

No, no, there's people out there saying, oh, you didn't give what you wanted to your

mad.

No, I look at it as is that the show was telling me everything and I'm putting the time

in the effort to invest into learning from my brother about the books and watching the
spk_0
clues and seeing all these things to have a culmination, to have a visual representation
spk_0
that meets that standard to just absolutely sink your teeth in and enjoy for an hour and
spk_0
a half of television.

And instead we didn't get that.
spk_0
We got something different and nothing guess why there was such a backlash.

That's why there's people out there with a million different signatures on petitions
spk_0
as they're so.
spk_0
So I say all that to say this episode, it was going to be very difficult for it to win

me over.

It was sadly an expectation for me, you know, and people were predicting this and predicting

that and so on.

And I think personally, I think it was slightly cheesy, you know, certain things that happened

into it, the irony and some other things.

You know, I felt like let's make sure we don't kill any of our favorite characters and
spk_0
let's make sure everybody has a happy ending except for the one character that we didn't
spk_0
who really wasn't the mad queen or anything else because I mean, she showed who she was
spk_0
at the end and she wasn't.
spk_0
And we kill her anyway.
spk_0
It just, I don't know, like I struggle with a lot.

Again, decisions, story wrap up, I get all that.

But I can see where a lot of people are going to be happy because like, you know, you
spk_0
love characters as if they're going in their certain ways, they're doing their certain
spk_0
things and so on.

But do I feel like that was what a true Game of Thrones ending should be like?

No.

Personally, no.

I mean, so it's a hard call for me.

It really is.

It's a mix call.

It's a lot of them talking.

No, I mean, I think they had a couple of points where they could have really flipped

it back on its head, almost had like when Ned guys beheaded.

Like when Sansa decided that the North wasn't joining the Seven Kingdoms again, that

could have easily, if everyone just backed out and been like, well, Dorne's backing out
spk_0
again too.

The only thing that's ever conquered us was a dragon.

No one has that anymore.

You know, we have the Aryans, little Robin.

He could have easily backed out.
spk_0
No one's going to be able to go up there and see him.

I mean, she could have done something that set ramifications all over.

But for some reason, everyone was like, no, okay.

Yeah, we're all cool with that.

The Stark's get to rule the six kingdoms and have a queen in the North.

But to me, it's just like a weird power drive.

Too fairy tale to me.

I mean, like to me, I mean, Game of Thrones, why it's called Game of Thrones.

You know, I mean, that's the title.

It is like the game is ended just.

You know, there is no game anymore.

So, you know, I guess that's the end of, I mean, like to me, that becomes politics now.

And so to me, it just doesn't fit, you know, to me, what I think Martin intended and what

we'll get when we hopefully get the books and this that are so long, I'm willing to bet

it's different in a completely different capacity.

And those books will be amazing.

Much like some of his others are because they're going to follow his rationale of what the

show and what the books intend.

And there is no end to Game of Thrones.

Like this show is ending and it does put a nice big bow on your favorite characters, but

that's not what Game of Thrones is.

No, because it's odd to say that we had a happy ending when really we didn't.

I mean, there was looking back the last three episodes.

There was so much death and horror and everything.

So I mean, I know it's not truly a happy ending in this fantasy world that we've all been

living in for the past decade, but I mean, we got, like you were saying, a boop had

onto this.

And I was a little too much.

When Arya was sailing away, we were sitting there talking, I was like, I'm still expecting

a faceless man to come here and murder Arya.

Like as she's sitting here sailing away.

That's just another example of something that gave you earlier in this series that you're

expecting to be an element in the future and it has no payoff.

Yeah, I mean, because people say we're going to ride a Varu Das or this or so on.

I mean, I bet it's just like the whole ghost thing at the end.

It's almost, it's almost ironic that people get pissed off because he doesn't pass the

ghost, which I agree.

I thought it was too.

But then we have a pet scene for the last episode.

And they knew that they were, that was going to be there at the end.

So I mean, that's why I mean, we give them a lot of credit.

I mean, they had this thing taped what in advance.

They knew the petting scene was going to be there after everybody bitched about him not

petting.

Yeah.

So it's like they could sit there and say, well, I was a CG thing, but then they realized,

well, in the back of their heads are like, yeah, look at them all bitching and stuff

with that.

Yeah.

Yeah, just wait till the end.

We get to throw it back in their faces and stuff, which I mean, bravo to them.

You know, I mean, one of the big things we've always said is have the story right and

go later on into the thing and get the payoff.

They did give us that they had already planned it, but there were so many other things
spk_0
that they didn't plan that I think fell in the face, which is what made these lack
spk_0
eluster.

But watching the episodes, I enjoyed so much.

So I don't want to try to be negative on it just because it's ending and that's the

thing.

And shit, y'all know me.

So I think the only concern I'll have, unless I'm not going to go negative on it was, I'd

love to know what happened last year that they decided to cut it short.

Like what decision, who made the decision?

Who made the call?

Bearing off and wise, they had the decision HBO was going to give according to HBO and

everything.

Yeah.

Was they decided they had enough written material for 73 hours.

They weren't going to expand it.

You know, sometimes you just got it, you got to stick to something.

Whether it's going to be right or wrong, that's what you've got to do with.

And that's fine.

And HBO really wanted to give them at least the 20 episodes, but they're like, no, it's

going to be 7 and 6, 13 episodes.

And that's what they did for the last three years.

You see, I mean, I just think that decision alone right there makes it tough.

Because what Game of Thrones does and what Zach was talking about was gives you all the

build up, gives you all the reasoning behind something happening.

And like I said, if they would have just given us three or four episodes of showing Danny,

building up rage, creating all these scenarios where she, you know, has a reason to turn

to what she did.

You know, a few of the characters.

I mean, I can say, you give us a little bit more and no one's going to bitch anymore.

And I'm just like, man, put a few slower episodes in there.

The highlight of this whole show is when you have three or two or three badass actors on

the screen, just talking about you.

I mean, one of the highlights was when we go back into the room where Tywin had won the

Game of Thrones by writing all of these letters.

Like, we go in the right scenes that were in that room.

Like that was part of it.

Like we needed seven episodes of him just sitting behind of a desk writing where like,

no one's paying attention to that.

He's writing why we still talking to these people.

You know, I mean, there was so much going on there, but then when it all hits you in that

one punch like Danny exploding King's landing, that should have all hit us like, oh, wait,

Heard killing bad people, evil people, and then just being like, oh, they were in my way.

It's inconvenient.

I need to kill them now.

Like, that's not the same payoff.

The show on the final episode even starts to show you.

Callbacks to stuff that's like, oh, that's a beloved area that had so many beloved

And they weren't like they were high action, packed scenes.

They're slow.

They're excellent dialogue.

And it's like, you give us a few of those episodes.

May seem slow for a final season, but it's beloved.

They did a fantastic job filming this episode.

I mean, there's three Drogon sequences that are just unbelievable.

He was covered in snow and everything.

And then he just starts shaking it all.

Just seeing the melting of the iron throne.

Seeing it and then her talking about the throne because Martin always complained that the

throne was never as big as he imagined.
