spk_0
Hi, I'm Billy and this is Super Silly Stories for Kids.
spk_0
The craziest story is imaginable.
spk_0
Today's story request is from 7-year-old Ryan.
spk_0
And he wants a story about all of his recycling becoming a cardboard monster.
spk_0
Okay, Ryan, here we go!
spk_0
Ryan and his mom had lots of empty boxes.
spk_0
There were cereal boxes, shoe boxes, board game boxes, with half the pieces missing and
spk_0
one suspicious box that used to hold a toaster but now just contained all banana stickers.
spk_0
So on one sunny Sunday afternoon, they drove down to the Grumble Tam recycling plant.
spk_0
Where the model was, we saw the stuff you can't be bothered with.
spk_0
Remember Ryan, his mom said, we recycle to help the planet.
spk_0
I know, said Ryan, but can I keep the banana sticker box?
spk_0
No!
spk_0
Oh, mom, they pulled up to the cardboard bin and started throwing boxes.
spk_0
But what Ryan didn't notice, what nobody noticed, was that someone else was nearby.
spk_0
Someone was wearing a white lab coat, sunglasses and a badge that read, Dr. Testivon Bunkington,
spk_0
Science Guy.
spk_0
He held a jar labelled Experimental Goo.
spk_0
Do not use on cardboard.
spk_0
And of course, he used it on cardboard.
spk_0
Dr. Bunkington tossed the jar into the recycling bin and ran away, cackling.
spk_0
Whoa, science!
spk_0
The goo splashed all over the boxes like green syrup at a pancake party.
spk_0
Suddenly, the boxes began to jiggle, then they wobbled, then they stuck to each other
spk_0
like magnets covered in jam.
spk_0
They folded, flipped and flipped, formed into a massive boxy creature with gooogly eyes made
spk_0
from bottle caps and a grin made out of torn up price stickers.
spk_0
Hello!
spk_0
It's said in a deep echoey voice, I'm boxy!
spk_0
I'm made of recycled hope!
spk_0
Ryan dropped a banana sticker box.
spk_0
You can talk!
spk_0
Boxy puffed out his cardboard chest.
spk_0
I'm alive!
spk_0
I consume junk, I eat recyclables, I love bins!
spk_0
Wanna be friends?
spk_0
Ryan asked.
spk_0
Yes, please!
spk_0
By the end of the week, Ryan and Boxy had became famous around town.
spk_0
They started a business called Boxy's bins and big bites.
spk_0
Ryan knocked on doors while Boxy stomped behind him carrying an enormous bin on his back.
spk_0
Old cereal boxes, flatten soda cans, mystery goo bottles you found under the sink.
spk_0
Boxy will take them all!
spk_0
People loved it!
spk_0
Boxy ate recycling like a monster at a cardboard buffet!
spk_0
Whole neighborhoods was spotless in minutes!
spk_0
But there was one problem.
spk_0
Boxy was getting bigger.
spk_0
Not just a little bigger, he started the size of a dog.
spk_0
Then he grew to the size of a sulfur.
spk_0
Then, well, let's just say he was so big, the pigeon started landing on his head thinking
spk_0
he was a rooftop.
spk_0
Boxy feels strong!
spk_0
He boomed, accidentally knocking over a lamppost with his elbow.
spk_0
Boxy craves compost!
spk_0
Ryan looked up at him nervously.
spk_0
You okay, buddy?
spk_0
You're starting to smell like wet paper.
spk_0
I'm fine!
spk_0
Just a little fool!
spk_0
That day, Boxy accidentally stepped on a bicycle, swallowed three recycling bins in
spk_0
one gope, and sneezed an entire stack of milk cartons across a garden-num display.
spk_0
Boxy, Ryan said gently, I think you've outgrown the town!
spk_0
Boxy looked around at the mess, the crushed hedges, the juice Boxy stuck to his foot.
spk_0
I'm too big!
spk_0
A letter came from the town mayor, saying the boxy had done more damage than he had good.
spk_0
He had nearly cost the town 50,000 dollars in damages.
spk_0
Boxy now good!
spk_0
The cardboard creature cried, you are boxy!
spk_0
Ryan said sadly, we just need to figure out a way to slim you down so we can continue
spk_0
the business!
spk_0
Boxy looked very sad, and then said, Boxy know how!
spk_0
And with that, Boxy did something truly noble.
spk_0
He marched right back to the grumble town recycling plant, climbed into the sorting machine,
spk_0
and gave Ryan a salute.
spk_0
No Boxy, no!
spk_0
Cryed Ryan, because the machine shook.
spk_0
It spat out all neat little bundles of flattened cardboard.
spk_0
Ryan stood silently for a moment, holding him back tears.
spk_0
Goodbye, Boxy, I'm gonna miss you, pal!
spk_0
Mom put a hand on his shoulder.
spk_0
I'm proud of you, Ryan.
spk_0
Not many kids can say their best friend recycled himself to save the town.
spk_0
I'll always miss him, Ryan sawp sadly.
spk_0
The next day, Ryan returned to the recycling center, mostly to say a proper goodbye.
spk_0
He stood by the giant cardboard bin and gave it a little wave.
spk_0
And then, Russell, scratch, pop!
spk_0
Out from under the pile of flattened boxes, a tiny cardboard cube with bottle cap eyes,
spk_0
and a sticker smile, leapt up and landed on Ryan's shoulder.
spk_0
Hello!
spk_0
It's Squeaked.
spk_0
I am Mini Boxy, version 2.0.
spk_0
Compact, efficient, still of bins.
spk_0
I recycle myself back to life.
spk_0
Ryan laughs so hard he nearly fell into the compost bin.
spk_0
You recycled yourself into a smaller version.
spk_0
Mini Boxing nodded proudly.
spk_0
Now we can fit into tighter spaces.
spk_0
Also, I learned how to juggle.
spk_0
And he started to juggle three bottle top lids and laughed loudly.
spk_0
And so, Boxy's bins and big bites, junior edition was born.
spk_0
Now Ryan and Mini Boxy go from house to house, saving the world, one banana sticker at a
spk_0
time.
spk_0
And if you listen closely, on recycling days, you might hear a little voice whisper,
spk_0
I smell cardboard!
spk_0
The end.
spk_0
I hope you enjoyed today's story.
