spk_0 Hi, this is Jenny, and this first of a two-part series serves as an introduction to help you
spk_0 better understand the causes of the many symptoms and sensations that you experience during panic
spk_0 and anxiety attacks.
spk_0 The second part will specifically support and instruct you if you're out shopping and
spk_0 you start to feel panicky or very anxious and what immediate help.
spk_0 I'll be right there with you to help you cope, calm down, and get back control.
spk_0 It's important to listen to this introduction before the second part in order to more
spk_0 fully understand those instructions.
spk_0 If you've been to a doctor and you're only diagnosis as anxiety or panic attacks, then
spk_0 I want to assure you that you are perfectly safe and in no danger, even though it may
spk_0 feel that way.
spk_0 The information contained in this audio is not intended to serve as a replacement for professional,
spk_0 medical, or psychological advice.
spk_0 First, I'd like you to know that I speak from personal experience as a former sufferer.
spk_0 I struggled with generalized anxiety and panic attacks for 20 long years before I taught
spk_0 myself how to be panic-free, not just cope with it.
spk_0 I did extensive research and through trial and error found out what works and what doesn't.
spk_0 Since teaching myself, I've taught countless others how to be panic-free through one-on-one
spk_0 counseling, group counseling, and through my radio interviews.
spk_0 You need to know that all of the intense and frightening symptoms and sensations that
spk_0 you feel are caused by adrenaline, cortisol, and other stress hormones being released into
spk_0 your blood strain, and also at the nerve endings of the different organs of your body.
spk_0 It's really important for you to understand that because that's the cause of the many
spk_0 strange and intense sensations that you feel in your heart and your stomach, your lungs,
spk_0 and other places during times of panic and high anxiety.
spk_0 The problem is that once that adrenaline is released into your system, it must run its
spk_0 course.
spk_0 Antelita, minute and fades away.
spk_0 You can't wish it away or fight it.
spk_0 So it's important to allow it to fade without getting unduly alarmed and adding still more
spk_0 stress hormones into your system, which only repeats the cycle and symptoms.
spk_0 This release of adrenaline can happen in a flash and the blink of an eye, leaving
spk_0 it to feel very bewildered and frightened, unable to understand what is happening to you.
spk_0 This reaction is a fight or flight mechanism that the body undergoes in order to prepare
spk_0 you to fight or to flee if you are in any danger.
spk_0 And I think you agree that this is a very necessary function.
spk_0 But when there is no apparent reason or real danger, no train coming at you, no tiger chasing
spk_0 you, and your body releases that adrenaline into your system as if you were in real danger,
spk_0 you may then begin to feel very anxious, bewildered and panicky.
spk_0 You might feel your heart pounding or skipping beats, you might start sweating,
spk_0 or your breathing can grow shallow, feeling like you can't get enough air,
spk_0 or you might get a sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach, or your legs might feel weak
spk_0 and kind of jelly-like, you might feel giddy or dizzy, maybe even lightheaded, and even get hot
spk_0 flashes. You might feel some pressure spots in your head, numbness or tingling in your hands and
spk_0 feet, as well as other intense symptoms and sensations. But you are not sick and you are not
spk_0 going insane. What you are experiencing is exaggerated stress symptoms.
spk_0 It's vital for you to understand that as bad as all of that feels, you are in no danger.
spk_0 You are going to be just fine. These exaggerated stress symptoms are not life threatening.
spk_0 They just feel that way. You may have discovered that it doesn't work to try and fight or outrun
spk_0 the symptoms. It just makes matters worse. To find out what does work, please come along with
spk_0 me to part two. As I said earlier, you can listen to it, should panic strike while you're out shopping.
spk_0 I'll be right there with you to support you and instruct you on how to cope and calm down
spk_0 and gain back control and stop the panic. You won't be powerless. But if you would like to learn
spk_0 how to actually prevent panic from happening at all, not just cope with it, please visit my website.
