Speaker A Ladies and gentlemen, the Flame City Shopping Experience. And here's your host, Bobby Parrish.
Speaker B I knew Art had the perfect voice for that, especially if you watch the live streams on YouTube. Art has the best announcer voice. I'm like, hey, guys, it's Bobby here with my good man. Hello, everyone. It is Art. How's it going? Hope you're doing a great day. Leave a comment down below. We're still in Whole Foods. We basically haven't moved since recording the last podcast, but we kind of stumbled over here to the vitamins and supplements aisle. I want to do a quick hitter from here because we have a video that came out about a week or so ago from Costco talking about the supplements and vitamins there. And they have more options here. And I wanted to talk about them. And I'm standing in front of the. It says right here the probiotics and omega oils section. And these are the refrigerated vitamins and supplements. And these are actually the ones that I kind of gravitate towards, especially if you're taking a probiotic, because what are probiotics? They're living cultures, right? Living bacteria. So they actually need to be refrigerated. So one of the better probiotics, if you take one, is going to be one in the fridge section here. And I really like this one from Ancient Nutrition. I think the company is owned by Dr. Axe, who's just, like, killing it. The guy is totally blown up. But they have one here. Probiotics for women probiotic, men here. And I like it because it's got a lot of the good lactobacillus in here. It's got some extracts. It has fenugreek in here, and you got to keep it in the fridge. It's about $35. But if you're gonna take a probiotic, you have to pay up. There's no point in getting a cheapo one because it's not gonna have the quality probiotics in there. And let me read the instructions. I think you're supposed to take this on an empty stomach here. Let's see here. This one actually doesn't say, oh, here we go. Take one with water, or your favorite beverage can be taken with or without food. I would actually take it in the morning on an empty stomach. That way the food you're eating, if it's really acidic, is not going to kill the bacteria. I wouldn't drink it with coffee necessarily. I'd have it 30 minutes or 15 minutes before that. So pick a good probiotic. I'm Going to have a lot more recommendations in the new year. I'm actually probably going to do a collaboration with Whole Foods in January for healthy supplements and healthy recipes. So that could be kind of cool. They finally am giving me some love for promoting their store so much. But also right below that are a bunch of elixirs. I'm looking at immune boosting elixirs. I'm looking at black magic, detoxifying charcoal. How do you feel about that Art?
Speaker A That's a lot of hype.
Speaker B I'm looking at an apple cider vinegar drink, a sea buckthorn potent C and a wellness. So the one that I actually like is relatively new is from Vital Protein. They have a Zen one, a sleep one, a glow one. They also have an immune one. So the cool thing about the vital proteins is that it has that collagen in here which is really nice. So it's a little expensive, right? It's $4.99 for a two ounce shot. It's on sale right now for $4.50. But if I look at the ingredients, I'm looking at the sleep one. So this is going to help you sleep. It has real blueberry juice, real lavender oil and some grass fed bovine collagen peptides. So I guess the lavender helps you sleep, which actually makes sense because Desi puts lavender oil in our diffuser at night to help rose sleep. So this is really cool. They also have a Zen one. So if you're feeling a little stressed out, the Zen one's going to have chamomile and lemon here and they don't have it in stock right now. But the immune one has turmeric, so I really like that. The other ones also here are from Coir from Viva Organics and the Muun one. Ooh, this one's nice. This isn't a glass container, actually, not the plastic. And it's got acerola and cordyceps. So acerola is a super fruit from Brazil. It actually has 100 times more vitamin C than orange juice. And we actually keep frozen packs in our freezer and blend it up with water or juice if you ever get sick. Has pineapple, ginger, black seed oil. Wow, this stuff is really good. So I really believe in this stuff. Once again, have it on an empty stomach. That's made in Malibu, California. That's such a California product. It's ridiculous. Guys, that's really cool. So have that, have a probiotic. I'm a big believer in those over those crappy emergency or what's the other One airborne. We talked about that in the Costco video. Those have added sugar. Those have natural and artificial flavors. Those have ingredients you don't want to see in those. And the ones that are coated in sugar have like six grams of sugar. So it defeats the purpose of getting those vitamins in the first place. It's really weird. There's also one here called Biokids, a probiotic supplement for kids. I wonder why it's kid formulated. Maybe it's not quite as many of the bacteria and stuff. You know what? This is not what I want to give kids. So this pisses me off when I see stuff that's formulated for kids. And the second ingredient is sugar to the tune of 6 grams. And then I see natural strawberry flavor. That is such crap, you guys. Six grams of added sugar for a bottle that's supposed to have vitamins and lactobacilicus bulgaricus and other stuff. Hello, sugar cane. Sugar kills live and active cultures. So I would never give that to your kid because it's just sugary at that point. And you killed all the benefits of that. That's really, really upsetting here. Good Belly now has probiotic dairy free shots. That looks really good. And there's one called Inner Eco. You gut this to play on words, and that is a probiotic coconut water. It's expensive, but you guys have to understand that the root of your health, the root of your gut and immune system really begins in your gut. So I'm saying the root of your immune system is in your gut, 80% of the cells that make up your gut or in your stomach. So you really have to foster your gut health to be healthy overall. And this is a probiotic coconut water. And all it is is fresh, young coconut water with kefir cultures, no sugar, no added crap. This is what you want. A shot of this every day, along with some turmeric shots or turmeric tea. That's going to keep you healthy. Desi said it really well the other day. A supplement like a vitamin D, a multivitamin, a vitamin E, is just that. It could only supplement weak spots in your diet or weak spots in your body. You can't take that and think it's going to help you that much if your diet isn't good, if your diet's great, but you're still lacking in iron like Desi was, or if you're lacking in vitamin E, you can take a vitamin E supplement and it's going to help. But if your diet sucks and you're lacking A lot of vitamins. You can't rely on the crutch of vitamins to do it because they won't do anything. They're meant to fill in the gaps, not be your primary source of vitamins. Do you take any vitamins?
Speaker A I do.
Speaker B Which ones?
Speaker A I take a multivitamin. Centrum.
Speaker B Centrum. Oh, he talked about that at Costco.
Speaker A I do.
Speaker B What's the slogan for Centrum?
Speaker A From A to zinc.
Speaker B Yeah. Don't tell Art. That's the one that I did not approve of at Costco. Yeah, I did not. It's art approved. So really interesting stuff in here. But just keep in mind, supplements are just that. Don't rely on them to boost your overall health because that's what your diet is meant to do. Charcoal drink over there that we said. Oh, yeah, there's a charcoal. So charcoal is detoxifying. So this Malibu company has a black magic charcoal drink with activated charcoal, ginger, lemon and coconut water. Wow. Very interesting.
Speaker A Give you charcoal in the ER if you ingest something, like poisonous. A lot more than this.
Speaker B When I used to have gas problems as a kid, John would give me charcoal pills to soak up the gas. He'd also give me Beano. What was Beano the official sponsor of?
Speaker A I think it was like a sponsor for Wheel of Fortune or the Price Is Right. Maybe even like a parting gift if you don't make it to the finals.
Speaker B Yeah. Back in the day. Back in the day. That was back with Bob Barker, not Drew or whoever the host is now.
Speaker A Or Wheel of Fortune back in the 80s.
Speaker B Yeah. Another good supplement is right here. It's cod liver oil and it's fermented cod liver oil. And this is pretty good for your body. But they have flavored ones and regular ones. Stay away from the flavored one because it's a natural. It's a natural lemon flavor. It's not real, and that's really good for your body. I'd recommend getting a fermented one. It's a little cheaper on Amazon. It's so funny because Amazon owns Whole Foods, yet so much stuff is actually cheaper on Amazon. And then I'm looking. Okay, now we're over at the vitamin C and supplement stuff here, and they have their own version here of. So it's an effervescent vitamin C fizzy drink mix. And let's just see what the ingredients are, because it does have vitamin C, riboflavin, niacin, and vitamin B6. The other ingredients are. The first one is fructose, then maltodextrin and then natural flavors. Sugars. Five grams of sugar for one packet. So what's the point of ingesting all these vitamins if you just took over one teaspoon of sugar? Always read the other ingredients when it comes to vitamins and nutrients. Same thing with immersion C. Same thing with Nuun. A lot of Nuun tablets are good for immunity or hydration, but they all have natural flavors. I'll give them credit. They don't use any sugar. They use stevia. But every noon has natural flavors, which is really a bummer. I actually came up with an idea the other week. I'm not going to tell you now because I don't want someone to steal it for a kind of supplement that is actually really, really good. I'm going to explore producing it next year. But I think it could be amazing. Like really, really amazing. Let's go walk over to the collagen and the protein powder because that's really what gets me excited because that's what I use on a daily basis. I take zero supplements, you guys. I rely on a diet and I rely on protein powder and collagen because collagen is something that you can't replace in your body. And as you get older, it goes away. So I believe in collagen so much, I take it every day. Art, you don't take collagen, do you?
Speaker A I don't take collagen.
Speaker B I have extra collagen at home. If I gave it to you, would you use it?
Speaker A You gave me some.
Speaker B I haven't used it yet. The answer is no. At least Art is consistent. He's true to his.
Speaker A I just haven't used it yet.
Speaker B Well, art is. I found somebody that wants it more. True. Good point. Well, art is 40. I'm 41. As you get older, the natural collagen in your body goes away. Buying grass fed collagen peptides is a great replacement or supplement, right? Supplement to the one you're losing. It's also really good for your hair, skin, nails and your gut. And just really, really good for you. The best in class collagen, when it comes to flavored is Primal Kitchen. And it's not only the best in class, it's the only one I recommend for flavored collagen because they're not using natural flavors. Primal Kitchen is the goat. What does it mean when I say something as the goat?
Speaker A It's the greatest of all time.
Speaker B Greatest of all time. That's right. Because they never use natural flavors. I'm looking at their Primal Kitchen collagen fuel, Vanilla, coconut and chocolate Coconut. The ingredients on the back are amazing. 100% grass fed bovine collagen peptides, coconut milk powder, monk fruit Konjac and vanilla extract and sea salt chocolate. Same ingredients, but with organic fair trade cacao powder. Every other flavored collagen or protein powder on the market uses natural vanilla flavors or natural chocolate flavors. Why do they do that? Art? What's the line I do now?
Speaker A Money.
Speaker B Yes, money, right? Just like Mr. Wonderful on Shark Tank. It's more expensive to use vanilla extract. And that's why Primal Kitchen is a premium product. But I see a lot of other premium products that charge premium prices but use natural vanilla flavor because they want to make more money. That is bullshites. You guys stop doing that. Right? If you're going to charge a premium product for a keto collagen mix or a keto flavored coffee creamer, use real flavors, not natural flavors. I think that is one of the biggest jokes at the grocery store. If I'm paying a 2,3x price, give me premium products. Which is why I love Primal Kitchen. One day I want to do a shop along with Mark Sisson, the CEO of Primal Kitchen, and we'll do a podcast together while we're shopping. Because if I look below that at keto collagen from Ancient Nutrition and they're using natural flavors. If I look at the vanilla collagen from Bulletproof they're using, let's see here, natural vanilla flavor. It's the biggest crutch ever, you guys. Natural vanilla flavors are made by a scientist in a lab. They start with an actual vanilla bean. That's the only rule about natural flavors. They start with a vanilla bean, then they manipulate it and make a synthetic chemical out of it that tastes like vanilla bean. They can alter it to their specs. I want it to taste a little more fruity, a little less tanniny. And it's way cheaper than using real vanilla. So if you're going to get flavored, go Primal. If you're going to get any other one, you have to get unflavored. My favorite unflavored is the grass fed vital protein to get at Costco. It's a 24 ounce or 28 ounce for about $25. It's the best deal ever. And then a great plant based protein powder, I've talked about this before is Garden of Life. Even though they got bought by Nestle, that doesn't matter. A lot of people saw that and they're like, oh man, they got Bought by Nestle, that's a sellout. They're going to use bad ingredients. No. Right. A lot of times companies get bought by a big conglomerate, but they leave them alone to do their own thing. They don't start using like Nestle syrup and the protein powder and start using crappy sugar instead of stevia. No, they let them do their thing. They just want the brand other than their umbrella. Right. That's what they want. But all their flavors, protein powders have the most amazing organic ingredients, but they always use natural flavor. But they do make right here, organic grass fed butter powder. Look for it on Amazon.com it is unbelievable because it's just butter that's dehydrated and turned into a powder. So if you're trying to gain weight or you're on keto or you want a meal replacement shake, add a scoop of this. This is the kind of fat you want. It's grass fed saturated, good fat that's good for your body. They also make, I see here a grass fed collagen peptide that is unflavored for. How much is this? This is $2 an ounce and Primal Kitchen is $3 an ounce, so that's unflavored. So everything else here, they have this keto meal shake that is fantastic. But it's chocolate flavored and instead of using chocolate powder, they use organic chocolate flavor. So that's my biggest beef with every other brand here. Whether it's own o w I n, whether it's orgain, they all use it. Amazing grass, they use it too. There is one that is actually whey based and it's Terra's. Terra's organic grass fed whey. The thing is, it's a whey protein concentrate, not an isolate. People like isolate because it's more effective for your body to absorb the protein. But when you turn something into an isolate, you actually have to process it a fair amount. Tara doesn't do that. She cold presses her whey and turns it into a concentrate. So it's actually not quite as effective to your body as absorbing the protein. But I'd rather have this because it's less processed. It's one of the only grass fed ways on the market and she's using real vanilla extract, not vanilla flavoring. What's that? Heart Tara. Tara. That's funny. Oh, that's an inside joke. Rose makes a lot of noises like a pterodactyl. So one of her nicknames is Tara the pterodactyl, which now Art and I have a song. Why don't you sing the song?
Speaker A Her name is Tara the Pterodactyl.
Speaker B Something like that. But it's so catchy that Art and I sing it all the time. And we want to turn it into a cartoon now, which I think could be huge. Right. I can be a billionaire from that and than not care about upsetting anyone during my videos.
Speaker A Should be a silent pee in front of me.
Speaker B That's right. Look that up. How do you spell pterodactyl? The only plant based protein I can find without natural flavors is garden of life. Raw organic protein. Unflavored. It's the unflavored one. So if you do get this, you probably want to add a little bit of like unsweetened cacao powder or a little bit of monk fruit sweetener. But it's the only garden of life in the only one of the only plant based protein powders I can find that doesn't have natural flavors. So we have a whole video about that on YouTube. You can look that up. All right, so lots of interesting stuff here. Anything else I want to talk about here? So I actually take this. So when I actually have a cold or a sore throat, I get oil of oregano. Have you ever used this stuff, Art?
Speaker A I've never even heard of it.
Speaker B It's very strong. So it's actually the pressed oil of oregano with extra virgin olive oil, which is really nice because sometimes they put this stuff in soybean oil, which I'll talk about in a second. Put two or three drops of this in your water or tea three times a day. It'll knock out a sore throat or help you get over a cold really easily. But something we talk. Oh my God. It's awesome. What is that, Art?
Speaker A The kick ass immune activator.
Speaker B So it's a spray bottle. You spray it in your throat. It's made with Rocky Mountain artisan style spring water. It's made with. I can't even pronounce this stuff. Bapt Elder flour, Yerba Santa cinnamon bark. Wow. Very interesting stuff. Dang.
Speaker A And it's actually. It's actually called what I said.
Speaker B Kick ass immune activator. Dude, I would totally get this. It's $22. It's kind of expensive, but man, what do you do? You spray? Yeah, probably. The drops are cheaper. You spray this in your throat a few times a day. See, this is the kind of stuff I like. I don't like taking stuff that has filler and bad stuff in there. This is just real. All homeopathic stuff that is Going to help you. This kind of stuff. Turmeric boosters. I'm all about oil of oregano. I'm all about. Very cool. So one thing I noticed at Costco when I was talking about supplements is a lot of stuff like vitamin E and vitamin B and vitamin D was packed in soybean oil and it was GMO soybean oil and I didn't understand that. So I have to find vitamins that have a better carrier oil. So they have to be packed in oil because you want them to have a carrier oil so your body can absorb them, but you don't want it in GMO soybean oil. So I found that really weird. Let me see if I just pick up something here. So here, this is mega food. Vitamin D3. And this one doesn't have any oil actually. Huh. Interesting. This is organic brown rice with it. Parsley leaf. Is this a. Oh, it's not a gel. That's why. Let me find one. That's gel. So vitamin D3 comes in a gel or a powder. Here we go. Here's one from. All right, do that commercial for people.
Speaker A Featuring an ingredient originally found in jellyfish.
Speaker B And that's four.
Speaker A So what, Kosamin Coq 10 or. No, some Coq 10.
Speaker B Prevagen.
Speaker A Prevagen.
Speaker B That commercial you see.
Speaker A Pregen Coq 10.
Speaker B Right, or something like that. It's those things you see on like CNN or something. Yeah, they don't play those commercials anymore, but. So this is country life. Vitamin D3 carrier oil is MCT oil. Wow, interesting. Okay, I can get behind that MCT oil for this one. So just read the other ingredients in your vitamins, you guys. You don't want to see sugar. You don't want to see natural artificial flavors. You don't want to see soybean oil. But here's an example. They have the vital proteins collagen peptides. Here. It's a 20 ounce container for $50. A 24 ounce container at Costco is $28. So it's more collagen peptides and literally about half the price. So that's a Costco thing you want to get for sure. There's other stuff. I'm going to research this in the new year. I'm dropping so many healthy videos in the first two weeks of 2020, it's going to be crazy for me. Actually, January is my busy season. I don't really get that much traffic for holiday recipes because we don't really do that many. But for healthy recipes and healthy supplements and healthy shopping that is my busy season. So I'm going to blast my YouTube channel, Instagram and Facebook with videos about best foods for weight loss, for supplements for clean eating in 2020, for maybe even some meal prep recipes. So stay on the lookout for all that. But I'm going to investigate more on the supplements here and actually probably should because I think I'm doing something with a collaboration with Whole Foods the first week of January. So I want to recommend some really good stuff to you guys. So. All right, that's it. That's the second podcast we did today. Art and I should probably have lunch now, right?
Speaker A That sounds good to me.
Speaker B You normally go to Chipotle for lunch, but let's just go to the restaurant here at Whole Foods, keep it local, maybe get you a cup of that intelligentsia. No, it's the allegro coffee here. I'm all for that. Art runs on fuel of coffee and caffeine. And then after that, I'm going to film a bunch of Instagram videos here. Like one minute videos just like showing you really interesting tips at the grocery store doing stuff. Like a side by side picture of like two different marinara sauces saying, hey guys, vote on which ones you guys think is the best one. And a bunch of quick hitters kind of just showing you cool things at the grocery store that is just fun and easy to do. And I don't have to cut them for my YouTube videos. I can just make them with art. Literally in a matter of minutes we can bang out a ton of different videos. So that is it. You guys, like subscribe, share new episodes every Tuesday. Oh, I want to do a poll actually about TikTok. TikTok's blowing up. And I actually was doing TikTok earlier this year and I stopped my friend Erica from everything. Erica says I should continue Tweet me flavcity and tweet arthuralmasy. Should I be doing TikTok? I don't know what's going on. I feel like I'm too old for that. I'm 41 years old. But let me know, right? Let me know. I don't know. What do you think, Art?
Speaker A If you think I should too, let me know.
Speaker B Let Art notes here. I'd love to see some tiktoks. That is it, you guys. Great time hanging out. We leave you like we always do. Keepon cooking. Mad love and peace from Whole Foods on Ashland and Belmont on the north side of Chicago. Come by if you ever see us and we're filming a recording, say hi. We do not care if we get interrupted. Right, Art? We don't at all.
Speaker A So see you next time on the Flav City Shopping Experience.
Speaker B That was the lamest outro, Art. Wow. Art fizzled there. Later, guys.
