spk_0 They're offering redded barrel versions right out of the box.
spk_0 So you don't have to go and drop $150 or $200 on a barrel.
spk_0 It's coming with it.
spk_0 People don't really think about it at all,
spk_0 but it's getting your kids into shooting,
spk_0 because it's going to suppress your recoil.
spk_0 It's going to make it a lot quieter.
spk_0 It's going to make it just a much more enjoyable shooting
spk_0 experience.
spk_0 Absolutely.
spk_0 People have this negative stigma with them.
spk_0 In order to enjoy shooting and introduce people to it,
spk_0 it's arguably the best tool for doing that.
spk_0 Absolutely.
spk_0 Today we are talking silencers, suppressors, cans,
spk_0 whatever you want to call it.
spk_0 We have Ryan Stratton with Silencer Coal with us today.
spk_0 He's going to talk to us about some of the changes
spk_0 that are going on in the suppressor industry,
spk_0 some advancements, some of their top products,
spk_0 and some of the best uses for them.
spk_0 Tell us a little bit about yourself,
spk_0 how you got in with Silencer Coal,
spk_0 and just all about you.
spk_0 Sure, no problem.
spk_0 So my name is Ryan Stratton.
spk_0 I am the director of sales for Silencer Coal.
spk_0 I just passed nine years with the company last month,
spk_0 and got the job after leaving the firearms industry
spk_0 on the retail side.
spk_0 So my family business, my dad had a gun story he started in 70s,
spk_0 and opened the second location,
spk_0 and when I got out of college, I got a real job,
spk_0 and then ended up leaving that profession,
spk_0 and going to work for the family business.
spk_0 So we opened the second shop, which was archery,
spk_0 and more hunting-related.
spk_0 We sold guns.
spk_0 We sold bows, hunting products,
spk_0 whereas our original store was more kind of old school gun shop
spk_0 with a shooting range and that stuff.
spk_0 So I did that until about 2015,
spk_0 and then we sold my dad retired, got rid of the business,
spk_0 and I switched sides from the retail side
spk_0 to the manufacturing side.
spk_0 Got a job with Silencer Coal working the southeast region
spk_0 as a sales rep.
spk_0 And then just continued to love the job and moved up from there.
spk_0 So now I handle kind of our distributor accounts,
spk_0 our big national accounts,
spk_0 shields being one of them on the account manager for shields.
spk_0 And we've got a really great team at Silencer Coal.
spk_0 I've got an awesome sales team.
spk_0 We've got about nine guys right now that run around
spk_0 and cover the country and do live fire shoots.
spk_0 We do trainings.
spk_0 We interact with the end user, the dealer.
spk_0 So it's a really fun job, that's for sure.
spk_0 I'm actually leaving on Monday to go do a shield's graduate training.
spk_0 So that'll be fun.
spk_0 Hey, that's awesome.
spk_0 So there's been a lot of change in the world
spk_0 of Silencer Suppressors.
spk_0 How long has Silencer Coal been around?
spk_0 Like how long has the company been around?
spk_0 So the company was founded in 2008.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 We just two guys in a garage decided that they wanted to try
spk_0 make a better suppressor.
spk_0 And we actually came to market with the Sparrow as our first product,
spk_0 which is still our best selling rimfire suppressor.
spk_0 And the second product at that point was the Osprey.
spk_0 If you might be familiar with that, it's our eccentric design.
spk_0 So it's a non-round suppressor.
spk_0 And it's pretty iconic and noticeable.
spk_0 So the company expanded from there.
spk_0 Sales started taking off.
spk_0 Now we're in, I think, our facility in Utah is like something around 75,000 square feet.
spk_0 We're opening another production facility.
spk_0 Sometime this year, probably, I think September,
spk_0 we're shooting to open up.
spk_0 More capacity, more production.
spk_0 Because we make everything in-house,
spk_0 which is one of the things I really like about Silencer Coal in our products is
spk_0 we're vertically integrated, right?
spk_0 We go from raw materials to end product, all in one house.
spk_0 That allows us to control the quality of the product that we put into the marketplace.
spk_0 It also allows us to affect 48-hour turnaround times on our warranties.
spk_0 Because we have an in-house warranty department.
spk_0 They bring anything in that gets damaged or misused or anything like that.
spk_0 They've got it fixed up and turned around really quick.
spk_0
spk_0 Very cool.
spk_0 So there's a lot of people out there that don't really know all the ins and outs of suppressor.
spk_0 Maybe somebody that just thinks about the John Wick movies or the James Bond movies.
spk_0 There's a little bit of fear and anxiety about it.
spk_0 Can you just tell us about where suppressors started and where they're at right now
spk_0 and the most popular uses for them?
spk_0 Sure. Suppressors have been around for a long time.
spk_0 Actually, they are regulated by the National Firearms Act.
spk_0 That went into effect in the 30s.
spk_0 So they were being used prior to that.
spk_0 They were patented in the early 1900s.
spk_0 And unfortunately, we're wrapped up in the National Firearms Act
spk_0 where they became a regulated item along the lines of machine guns, short-brow-drife,
spk_0 full-short-brow-drilt, shotguns, destructive devices.
spk_0 So since the early 30s to own a suppressor in the United States,
spk_0 you've got to follow the NFA rules, which are fingerprints, photos.
spk_0 You fill out a federal form for.
spk_0 You undergo a background check.
spk_0 And once all that is completed, you pay a $200 tax stamp also.
spk_0 And then once all that is processed, you then are able to own the suppressor.
spk_0 And that is right now legal in 42 out of 50 states.
spk_0 We're lobbying to get it to 51 day, but 42 now.
spk_0 So nowadays, you see them in movies, right?
spk_0 That's probably where most people see their suppressors.
spk_0 And there's a lot of myths in Hollywood about, we call it Hollywood Quiet.
spk_0 You see someone shooting in a crowd and nobody's listening or nobody's hearing it.
spk_0 But what we see nowadays for suppressor use is very big in the hunting industry.
spk_0 It's big in the personal defense side of shooting.
spk_0 People who are going to have a home protection firearm, they want to suppress it.
spk_0 So if they actually have to discharge that firearm indoors,
spk_0 it doesn't destroy their hearing.
spk_0 Recreational shooters, anybody that's going to do a high volume of rounds
spk_0 or even a low volume of rounds, it's just so much nicer to shoot with a silencer.
spk_0 And one thing I'll set straight here early, you're probably hear me
spk_0 throughout this podcast use different terms for suppressors.
spk_0 Silencers suppressor can.
spk_0 They're all interchangeable, right?
spk_0 The company's named Silencer Co.
spk_0 So you'll hear people say, well, it's not really a silencer, it's a suppressor
spk_0 because it doesn't silence the round.
spk_0 But the original patent on silencers was a silencer.
spk_0 So you'll hear me use all three terms.
spk_0 Some people prefer one or the other.
spk_0 I tend to throw around all three.
spk_0 Nice.
spk_0 And you know, like one of the main benefits too is like, people don't really think about it at
spk_0 time, but it's getting your kids into shooting because it's going to, you know,
spk_0 it's going to suppress your recoil.
spk_0 It's going to make it a lot quieter.
spk_0 It's going to make it just a much more enjoyable shooting experience.
spk_0 Absolutely.
spk_0 People have this sort of negative stigma with them, just because there's so many,
spk_0 you know, like forums you have to fill the fingerprints like you talked about.
spk_0 But man, like in order to like, enjoy shooting and introduce people to it,
spk_0 there's, it's arguably the best tool for doing that.
spk_0 Absolutely.
spk_0 We see a lot of brand new shooters at live fire events that we do.
spk_0 And they'll come up.
spk_0 They've never shot a gun before.
spk_0 You can see they're, they're visibly a little bit afraid to shoot.
spk_0 We'll usually step up.
spk_0 We'll start among like a 22 rifle or pistol.
spk_0 And you can kind of see the anxiety just melt away after they shoot that first round.
spk_0 They're like, oh, that was it, you know, and they'll take off their hearing protection.
spk_0 They'll shoot it. They'll listen to it.
spk_0 And they're like, wow, that's really, that's really not what I expected.
spk_0 He's stepped them up from there into a larger caliber, maybe a nine millimeter,
spk_0 300 blackout, something like that.
spk_0 And before you know it, that person who is afraid to shoot is over here shooting
spk_0 it's well-gauge suppressed, you know.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 It takes about five minutes to get them comfortable with the sound and the recoil.
spk_0 And the same thing for hunting, right?
spk_0 If you've got kids that you want to get into it,
spk_0 obviously everybody's hearing is sensitive.
spk_0 Kids especially.
spk_0 The last thing you want to do is take your kid out and have them damage your hearing
spk_0 with a 308 in the deer stand.
spk_0 But you are able to reduce the recoil and you're able to reduce the sound.
spk_0 It helps with accuracy.
spk_0 It really just makes the shooting experience, the hunting experience,
spk_0 that much more enjoyable.
spk_0 Mm-hmm.
spk_0 Absolutely.
spk_0 And so I went to what's called like a hunting and shooting university last year
spk_0 where we had a silencer call was there to just shooting a pile of rounds,
spk_0 like whether it was through like six, five or seven millimeters or pistols,
spk_0 basically the whole gamut of things.
spk_0 But I mean, I would say 80% of the stuff that we shot was suppressed and then we'd go to a section
spk_0 where you didn't have a suppressor on the rifle and it was like, oh,
spk_0 that's just not as fun.
spk_0 But yeah, it's true.
spk_0 It's one of those things that once you start, it's hard to go back.
spk_0 It really is.
spk_0 We always will sell somebody their first suppressor and it's called like a gateway can, right?
spk_0 They'll get it.
spk_0 They say, well, I just really want to suppress my AR or my pistol or whatever.
spk_0 And then inevitably that person goes and they shoot one of their guns,
spk_0 unsuppressed and they're like, I just have to fix this.
spk_0 Let me go get another one.
spk_0 And that's why we see multi-calibre suppressors become pretty popular.
spk_0 Someone see the hybrid 46 and they go, wow, this will suppress everything from my 4570
spk_0 down to my 9 millimeter and pretty much everything in between.
spk_0 And they say, that's great.
spk_0 I'm going to buy one for everything.
spk_0 And then before you know it, they're coming back.
spk_0 I want one for my pistol.
spk_0 I want one for my rimfire.
spk_0 I want one for my hunting rifle.
spk_0 We've got some that are the Swiss Army knife and then we've got some that are more of like a
spk_0 scalpel, right?
spk_0 Mm-hmm.
spk_0 Yeah, exactly.
spk_0 That's a good way to put it.
spk_0 And just, you know, target acquisition, such a big thing.
spk_0 You know, when you're in your hunting situation, you've got that animal at three, four,
spk_0 five hundred yards or whatever.
spk_0 And like, you shoot, you want to be able to stay on that animal.
spk_0 You want to know where you're hitting.
spk_0 You want to know if you have to do a follow-up shot.
spk_0 Or like, even just in range situation,
spk_0 so longer distances, just being able to like physically track that bullet through the scope.
spk_0 Because if you're not shooting suppress, it's, it's very, very difficult to do that.
spk_0 And it makes it so much easier to do it when you're shooting with a silencer.
spk_0 That's a great point.
spk_0 Myself and my sales team, we, a few months ago, were out in Texas and we were doing a PRS class,
spk_0 you know, precision long range hunting, precision rifle type of class.
spk_0 And it is really important to be able to stay in that optic and see your hits
spk_0 and be able to make an adjustment on your shot if you missed.
spk_0 Same thing would apply to hunting, right?
spk_0 If you shot and missed and the animal hasn't spooked, you can actually see,
spk_0 hey, I was, I was three mills right.
spk_0 Let me make a quick adjustment and let me shoot.
spk_0 Without the suppressor or a really good break on the end of the gun,
spk_0 you get blown out of the scope, you don't know what happened, right?
spk_0 You don't know if you missed, high low left, right?
spk_0 And then one of the other things that people who haven't actually hunted with a suppressor
spk_0 aren't really aware of is you can actually hear your hit on the animal sometimes, right?
spk_0 I do a lot of hog hunting in Florida.
spk_0 And, you know, we're not usually shooting at a very long distance.
spk_0 It's usually inside 150 yards.
spk_0 And you can actually hear the round impacting the animal.
spk_0 So that really helps you understand, like, oh, okay, I got one.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 You know, you can, for those who grew up like rifle hunting,
spk_0 I grew up in Minnesota and the orange army comes out in November.
spk_0 And you're here in chops and all this.
spk_0 And you can distinguish which ones of those are hits and which ones are missed
spk_0 from a distance.
spk_0 But being able to do it with yours is a completely different thing.
spk_0 Yeah, it's true.
spk_0 I take a lot of people hunting at night.
spk_0 I'm giving them my rifle with the thermal on it.
spk_0 I'm looking through a, you know, through a spotter or something like that.
spk_0 And then when they're getting ready to shoot,
spk_0 I actually am putting the spotter down and I'm just listening.
spk_0 And I'll call hit or a miss, you know, because I can hear it.
spk_0 It makes the experience that much easier.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 And if you haven't gone hog hunting for the listeners out here,
spk_0 put it on your bucket list, especially the thermal stuff.
spk_0 It is so fun.
spk_0 Yeah, the pressers and thermals go hand in hand.
spk_0 That's for sure.
spk_0 And we've got a ton of pigs here in Florida.
spk_0 I actually, I live right up against the Kennedy Space Center.
spk_0 And there's a wildlife management area that surrounds the Space Center.
spk_0 And I share a fence line with that management area.
spk_0 And I've got tons of tons of pigs that end up in my yard.
spk_0 So, you know, I've got a camera out there.
spk_0 And anytime I see something slip into the yard,
spk_0 I'm out there trying to take care of it.
spk_0 That's awesome.
spk_0 Wait, wait, wait, wait, to do your part.
spk_0 Exactly.
spk_0 I should send him a bill.
spk_0 Yeah, exactly.
spk_0 It's funny.
spk_0 So let's talk a little bit about your wall behind you.
spk_0 So I mean, I know that there's a lot of people that listen to us
spk_0 on like audio-only platforms like Spotify and Apple Music and stuff like that.
spk_0 But for the ones of you.
spk_0 So I am actually a pretty big fan of older guns.
spk_0 I have probably seen on the top row up here all the pistols.
spk_0 I've got a lot of old wheel guns.
spk_0 I'm a pretty big like cult fan, you know, detective specials
spk_0 and some of the older stuff.
spk_0 I think I get that from growing up in the gun store with my dad.
spk_0 He was a big like World War II collector of old guns.
spk_0 You know, the single action armies and, you know, old West guns and stuff like that.
spk_0 Gosh, it's going to be hard to pick out a favorite.
spk_0 I guess let's see here.
spk_0 So, you know, kind of the classics.
spk_0 This is an old Browning 20 gauge over under.
spk_0 The really special thing about this was given to me
spk_0 by a really good customer of ours at the store.
spk_0 Older guy, Vietnam veteran and he didn't have any kids.
spk_0 He really didn't have any family and he would come in every day
spk_0 and drink his coffee and share stories in the gun store.
spk_0 And he ended up coming in with this Browning 20 gauge one day.
spk_0 And he said, I want you to have this.
spk_0 I don't shoot it anymore.
spk_0 And I do, you know, a lot of herd hunting and stuff.
spk_0 So this one kind of holds a special place in my heart.
spk_0 I would say one of my more favorite guns, one you'll never sell.
spk_0 Not that I sell guns that often anyway, but that one I think would be for sure one of my
spk_0 favorites.
spk_0 You know, I find it fascinating that it really doesn't matter how many guns a person owns.
spk_0 That, you know, the one that's the most sentimental or the most important to them is really the one
spk_0 that's like the most expensive or like the most difficult to acquire.
spk_0 It's just the one that has like the most unique heartfelt story to it.
spk_0 Absolutely.
spk_0 Appreciate that.
spk_0 Yep.
spk_0 Yep.
spk_0 That's true.
spk_0 You know, it's a special thing to give somebody a gift like that, right?
spk_0 And so it means something really really important to someone who receives that gift,
spk_0 whether it's a gun or anything else like that.
spk_0 Yeah, I mean, there's there's much more expensive ones up there,
spk_0 much harder to get ones, but you know, if the house was burning down and I had to grab a
spk_0 couple, that would be one of them for sure.
spk_0 Nice.
spk_0 Do you have one back there that's maybe like older, but you had to like modify to fit one of your
spk_0 suppressors on there?
spk_0 Do you have a good example of that?
spk_0 Yep.
spk_0 This is a Remington Model 7, right?
spk_0 243.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 This was my very first rifle.
spk_0 So this gun came from my dad when we were going to go deer hunting.
spk_0 I was probably, I don't know, eight or nine years old when I got this.
spk_0 And it was your traditional wooden blue 243.
spk_0 Still has the original blue pulled on it that I've always kept on it.
spk_0 But in recent times, I decided that I need everything suppressed.
spk_0 So I have a good buddy of mine who is a gunsmith and he threaded this for me.
spk_0 So now I have a modern take on my original deer rifle.
spk_0 And I still do take this, you know, shooting every now and then and one day I'll probably pass
spk_0 this along to my daughter or daughters, whoever decides they want to be the hunter and the family.
spk_0 But yeah, that's, I mean, I got that gun.
spk_0 I don't know.
spk_0 Or of mid to late 80s, sometimes like that.
spk_0 I love that.
spk_0 That's actually very, very similar to some of the first gun that I use too.
spk_0 I shot my first deer with a 243.
spk_0 And I'm pretty sure it's the same model.
spk_0 Mine has a lighter color stock.
spk_0 But you pull that out and I was like, oh, that's nearly exactly the same gun that I started with.
spk_0 And very popular early deer rifle gun.
spk_0 Yeah. And I ended up moving to a 30 odd six after that and had some scope issues.
spk_0 And then I moved back to that one again and then I shot, what was my largest deer for like
spk_0 the longest time with that 243? And I have to give credit to like shooting out a doe to try and
spk_0 film my management tag and missing horribly to probably why I caught that deer.
spk_0 Because like I switched back and then two hours later this really nice five by five shows up.
spk_0 And I likely would have missed them with that other gun.
spk_0 But moving actually like the modification you did, what exactly do you have to do to like
spk_0 get the barrel to be ready to take a suppressor for that?
spk_0 So the industry now has really adopted suppressor ready models.
spk_0 So really all you need is a threaded barrel for the most part.
spk_0 So like your old bolt guns, that was pretty rare that they came with a threaded barrel.
spk_0 If they, you know, some of the old brownings and stuff came with one of their
spk_0 breaks or something like that. But for the most part, they're solid barrels.
spk_0 They don't have threading. So any competent gunsmith can go ahead and turn that barrel and put
spk_0 threads on it. And then you're pretty much ready to go on on a rifle. A-Rs, they pretty much all
spk_0 come with flash hiders or breaks. So all you have to do is remove that break or muzzle device.
spk_0 For our products, we offer a proprietary mounting system that's quick detach.
spk_0 It's called the ASR mount. You just put one of our muzzle devices on and then you lock the can on
spk_0 with the muzzle device and it's ready to go. For your pistols, you would go ahead and buy a
spk_0 threaded barrel if you don't already have one. And again, there's a lot of manufacturers out there
spk_0 that are offering threaded barrel options because suppressors have been for a long time.
spk_0 One of the fastest growing segments of the firearms market. So you've got companies like SIG, HK,
spk_0 you know, staccato, smith and wesson breta. They're offering threaded barrel versions right out of
spk_0 the box. So you don't have to go and drop $150 or $200 on a barrel. It's coming with it.
spk_0 But if you've got a gun that doesn't have a threaded barrel, like for instance,
spk_0 silencer code, we make clocks, smith and wesson, SIG, HK, breta. There's a variety of barrels out
spk_0 there that we make as well as other manufacturers too. So they're usually pretty easy to drop in and
spk_0 just attach your suppressor and go. Okay, nice. All right, I've got a question for you. So say,
spk_0 say I have like an AR like 223556 and a 65 creed more and I want to get a suppressor that works
spk_0 for both of them. Like what sort of like one do you want to get? What sort of accessories do you need
spk_0 to make them be compatible to work for both? Do you have to worry about certain gas and pressure?
spk_0 What sort of goes into all that? Good question. Good question. So 30 caliber suppressors is pretty
spk_0 much the largest segment of the business, right? That's going to cover usually everything from
spk_0 around 300 wind mags, sometimes a little bit more and down to 223556 and some of your
spk_0 you know, 224s, things like that. Most of the time, people are going to buy that 30 caliber suppressor
spk_0 and they'll use it on their ARs, they'll use it on their bolt guns. Some of them you can use on
spk_0 pistol caliber carbines and things like that. Depending on which model silencer co you buy,
spk_0 some of them will come with a direct thread, some of them will come with a muzzle brake or a
spk_0 flash hider and the ASR mount the QD mount. But we have a plethora of accessories where you can
spk_0 adapt that suppressor to a different host weapon. So if you buy a sci-fi, for example, that's one of our
spk_0 more popular hunting suppressors. It's all titanium, it's super light, super quiet, smaller,
spk_0 shorter suppressor. It's ideal for bolt guns, but if you want to put it on your AR 556 or 300 blackout,
spk_0 you can direct thread it right on or you can use the ASR mount. So you can buy a couple of different
spk_0 accessories and use different, you know, different firearms. You can put a muzzle device on every one
spk_0 of your guns and put the ASR mount in the back of the suppressor and then just go from one to the
spk_0 next to the next by just unlocking a ring and moving it from one to the other. Okay, interesting.
spk_0 And then what about cleaning and stuff like that? What's your recommendations on cleaning for
spk_0 these things? So we get that question a lot. Most of our sealed suppressors are pretty much all of
spk_0 our suppressors at this point in the rifle category are sealed, right? They're not user accessible.
spk_0 So really all we recommend is cleaning and oiling the mounting portion of the suppressor. So I
spk_0 usually say anything with threads. I'll usually take apart clean oil and put back together. That's
spk_0 like the in cap, the mount, the direct thread. If it's a modular suppressor, so we have some that come
spk_0 in a full length configuration and then you can shorten them. So those segments have threads. I'll
spk_0 usually take those apart, clean them oil and but as far as the inside of the suppressor goes,
spk_0 as long as you're shooting jacketed factory loaded ammo, you don't really have to worry about
spk_0 cleaning the inside. They're going to be just fine. There are methods out there by which you can
spk_0 clean them if you want, but we don't usually see the amount of build up or round counts in the
spk_0 and the average shooter that requires someone to go ahead and get in the inside of that and clean it.
spk_0 Okay, so you don't necessarily have to be worried about like safety or anything like that with
spk_0 not really. We do recommend cleaning the rim fire suppressors. Rim fire is dirty. You also get
spk_0 a lot of unjacketed ammo and you get lead build up on the inside of the suppressor. So our sphero
spk_0 and our switchback 22, both of those we do recommend cleaning the sphero every 2000 rounds,
spk_0 the switchback about every 1000 rounds and they're pretty easy to clean. Take them apart. You got
spk_0 the baffles on the inside, clean them up, scrape any of the lead out, put them back together and
spk_0 start shooting again. Nice. So there's been quite a bit of talk about like the tax stamp going on
spk_0 and I believe there's been some new regulations that have been passed. Can you walk us through exactly
spk_0 what's going on in the in the environment with it right now? Absolutely. Good question. So
spk_0 the big beautiful bill, which some people have probably heard of, just passed in July 4th of July
spk_0 and in that bill was a tax stamp reduction, right? So right now we talked about it a little bit
spk_0 earlier when you buy a suppressor or a short-barrel drive full-short-barrel shotgun,
spk_0 you will pay a $200 tax stamp and that's been the case since the early 30s, right? Starting January
spk_0 first, the tax stamp will go from 200 down to zero. It is a step in the right direction. It's not
spk_0 what we originally wanted the way it was originally written was suppressors being completely removed
spk_0 from the NFA walls, right? So that would basically treat them just like a firearm. You go in, you do a
spk_0 44-73, you pass your background check, you leave with your suppressor. They amended that bill when
spk_0 it went from house to senate, right? So they did leave the portion in about the tax stamp being reduced.
spk_0 So that passed. So starting January 1st, if you go by a silencer, you will still do a form for,
spk_0 you will still do fingerprints, you will still do photos and you will submit that to the ATF
spk_0 for the background check. The good news is about 18 months ago or so, background checks went from
spk_0 somewhere around eight to 12 months down to eight to 12 days, sometimes, you know, a couple days
spk_0 to a couple of weeks. I actually have to go to the gun store tomorrow to pick up a suppressor. I had
spk_0 an approval in three days. So turn around times on the background check have come down significantly,
spk_0 and then starting in January, there will be no tax. So the purchase process remains the same,
spk_0 the tax is going away. Okay, gotcha. And then talk to us a little bit about
spk_0 you have to, to like pass it down or have like other people use your suppressor. What are the
spk_0 logistics with that? So there are a couple of ways that you can purchase a silencer. You can
spk_0 register them as an individual. You can register them as a trust. Those are the two most popular
spk_0 options. Registering them as an individual, you're basically the person that owns that, it's
spk_0 stamped and registered to you personally. So other people can shoot it, other people can be in
spk_0 possession of it as long as you are with them in present, right? I can't give that to somebody
spk_0 and let them go to the range without me. I can't let them take it to their house, whatever.
spk_0 In a trust, you can add multiple trustees, responsible parties, and any one of those people
spk_0 can possess and use that suppressor on their own away from the other people. So there's options
spk_0 out there on purchasing firearms trust. And if they fire on trust, there's a bunch of options,
spk_0 they're not super expensive. Some of them are pretty convenient to do. And then you just add in
spk_0 the people that you want to be able to possess that suppressor. And you can add and remove those
spk_0 people once the suppressor is in your hands, right? So a year later, two years later, you want to
spk_0 amend that document to include or exclude people, you have that flexibility. And then upon the death
spk_0 of somebody within that trust, there's no paperwork that needs to be filed. Nothing happens. They're
spk_0 just out of the trust and the other people continue to use it. If it's yours as an individual,
spk_0 I pass away. I've got a suppressor that was registered to me individually. And my family member
spk_0 or friend or daughter, whoever wants to take that, there is a tax-free option of re-registering that
spk_0 to them. At this point, past January 1st, there's going to be no tax anymore, right? So it'll be
spk_0 a little bit more easy to transfer a suppressor from one person to another or from a trust to a person.
spk_0 Right now, the barrier to injury on that is the $200 tax stamp, right? If I want to sell you a
spk_0 suppressor, you give me $200 for it. Right now, you have to pay that tax stamp again, right? So
spk_0 after January 1st, that $200 goes away in all aspects. Okay, it makes sense. And then when you're
spk_0 setting up in this trust, so basically everybody in the trust has to get like the background check
spk_0 and the fingerprints and all that. That's correct. Yep, anybody who's on that trust as a responsible
spk_0 party will have to fill out the paperwork, do the fingerprints, do the photos, and then wait for
spk_0 the background check. Now, there are a lot of easy ways to purchase suppressors out there.
spk_0 Shields, for example, you guys have got a really great system in house. It sounds difficult.
spk_0 It sounds like a lot, right? Fingerprints, photos, forms, taxes. If you go into a shield today and
spk_0 buy a suppressor, you may know better than I do, but for the most part, that process takes
spk_0 somewhere between like 10 and 20 minutes. It's not that hard. And I believe, you guys are storing
spk_0 the fingerprints and photos as well. So if you're doing a repeat purchase, it's actually easier to do
spk_0 and quicker on the second or third try, you know? Yep, absolutely. So okay. And then for say you want to,
spk_0 you want to switch that suppressor between all sorts of different guns. You want to put it on
spk_0 to an air, you want to put it on to, you know, one of your six, five, seven millimeter, all of that.
spk_0 You can still do that with just like your standard, not not the trust but the personal, right?
spk_0 And we're going to any issues. Nope, none there. So that's one thing we do deal with a question about
spk_0 that. Someone comes in and they say, I want to buy a suppressor, right? And then they think that
spk_0 that serial number is like linked to a firearm, right? It's it's not that way. You can move that
spk_0 suppressor to any firearm you like. They are not tied to any specific firearm. You can move them
spk_0 around however you want. Basically once you pay that tax stamp and get that form approved and it
spk_0 comes back to you, you can do with it whatever you want with any gun. What about like keeping
spk_0 paperwork when you are going to like the range or to hunting and stuff like that? What sort of
spk_0 recommendation do you have for that to make sure to stay like legal and doing everything right in
spk_0 every situation? That's a good question. So the ATF recently, last year, they went to a e-forms
spk_0 system. So they basically digitized their entire form for process. So you actually get an email
spk_0 with a PDF with your actual form. It used to be prior to 2024. You were actually getting a piece
spk_0 of paper with a $200 postage stamp in the top right corner. That was your that was your paper work.
spk_0 If you lost it, you know, that was a big deal. Now you're actually getting it as a PDF. You can
spk_0 store it on your phone, screenshot it, whatever. I have all of mine in a folder on my phone and a
spk_0 digital copy of FISES. So if you ever were out and about shooting and had to produce that paper
spk_0 work in tax stamp, a digital copy is just fine. You don't have to print it out and bring it with you
spk_0 everywhere you go. So a digital copy is fine and nowadays it sits in everybody's inbox. You just,
spk_0 I put them in a folder in my Gmail and everyone's right there. I can just pull it up and
spk_0 pull it out of there if I need to produce it. Yeah, look at that. Technology for the win right there.
spk_0 Yeah, right. ATF coming into the 21st century. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I mean, guns have been around forever
spk_0 and people think like there's a lot of just like, oh, what's the word I'm looking for? You know,
spk_0 just a lot of old age to it. People think in like putting, putting, lead balls in muskets and stuff.
spk_0 But man, the technology in the firearm industry right now is nuts with like the precision rifle
spk_0 in your apps and getting down to like the exact grains and the and the decibels of your suppressors.
spk_0 There's so much math in there. It's just crazy and it's fascinating at the same time.
spk_0 Yeah, and you know, we're seeing in the suppressor industry specifically 3D printing, right? That
spk_0 has become a new tool that we can use. We actually have our vellos line. We make three different vellos
spk_0 and those are particularly suited for gas guns, AR-10s, AR-15s. And we 3D print an E.K. Nell core.
spk_0 And then we weld that into a 174 stainless front and back. So it's additive and subtractive
spk_0 manufacturing in one product. You can you can achieve specific geometry with that 3D printing
spk_0 additive manufacturing that you can't with subtractive manufacturing, right? So you get these
spk_0 cool channels and things. We have a low back pressure design. So when you're shooting your AR-15,
spk_0 your AR-10, you're not getting as much gas back into the face. And that wasn't really possible to
spk_0 print a suppressor or suppressor core, you know, 10, 15 years ago. So you know, you'll see,
spk_0 I think 3D printing be more of a feature that you're going to see in suppressors down the
spk_0 road. And that's a huge thing when you're shooting suppress ARs. Because like if you shoot long
spk_0 enough, you can just like smell it. And you can kind of feel like a little bit dizzy and a little
spk_0 bit woozy from that gas. But like the advancements you guys are doing nowadays is starting to eliminate
spk_0 that and make everything just super efficient and like just all around safer to shoot.
spk_0 Absolutely. It's a it's a night and day difference if you're using a standard suppressor to a low
spk_0 back pressure suppressor. The gas that you get back in the face is greatly reduced. We also make
spk_0 what we call the gas defeating charging handle for AR-15. So it has an o-ring on the bottom of the
spk_0 charging handle. And that charging handle sits right in front of your nose and eyes. And if you watch
spk_0 a high speed video of someone shooting a suppressed AR-15, a lot of that gas is coming out of that
spk_0 charging handle area. So we actually can seal up that portion underneath the charging handle
spk_0 and allow more gas to go out the muzzle of the gun through the low back pressure suppressor.
spk_0 And it is a huge difference. Much more pleasurable to shoot.
spk_0 That's awesome. Yeah, very cool. So now I'd like you to just walk through a couple of your
spk_0 top suppressors for each style of weapon. Let's let's talk about like for your
spk_0 you know, top one for your pistols for your rim fires for your ARs for your hunting rifles.
spk_0 Absolutely. Well, we can start with rim fire if you want. I mentioned before the Sparrow that is
spk_0 our very first product. It's our best selling rim fire silencer. It's a monocore baffle system.
spk_0 So there's only three pieces on the inside of that can. There's a there's a monocore baffle
spk_0 and then there's two little half-pipe. So when you have to take it apart to clean it,
spk_0 it's super simple to take apart, super simple to clean and reassemble. That will do everything
spk_0 from FN57 down to 22 long, 22 short, 22 mag 17 HMR. So it is very versatile and all the
spk_0 calibers that you can shoot it with. Retail those around 300 bucks. So it's not a big
spk_0 investment for somebody. And now with the tax stamp going away, you're going to cut $200 off
spk_0 the top of that purchase starting in January. So you can get into a really quality rim fire
spk_0 suppressor for around 300 bucks. So I would I would encourage everybody to check out the Sparrow
spk_0 in our pistol suppressors. My favorite and one of our better sellers is the Specter 9.
spk_0 That's an all titanium suppressor. It will shoot everything from 300 blackout super and sub-sonic
spk_0 to 9 millimeter 38357 lever guns. It is super light weighs around four ounces. It's very light,
spk_0 very small, very quiet for its size. You can actually shoot that on the end of some pistols without a
spk_0 booster. So when you attach a pistol suppressor to a browning action tipping style barrel,
spk_0 there's a piston that goes in the back of the suppressor that screws onto the can. It's removable
spk_0 so you can actually change the different threads. So if you have a a metric barrel or a standard barrel
spk_0 or you're going to different calibers, you can change that out. And that that piston has a spring
spk_0 on it. And that allows the pistol can to move back and forth as the gun is cycling, it's actually
spk_0 giving a little bit of a kick to the to the slide. So we have found that that actually can function
spk_0 without a piston and a spring on some barrels because it's so light. That is a really cool suppressor,
spk_0 the Specter 9. In our rifle category, I'll probably mention two. We have the tried and true,
spk_0 our most popular 30 caliber suppressor of all time, the Omega 300. That is going to run
spk_0 everything from 300 wind mag and down. So 223 556 300 blackout, 308 270 anything you can imagine
spk_0 under 300 wind mag. And that has been one of our best sellers. It has been our best seller for
spk_0 many years. And it's at a great price. You can usually find those around 700 bucks. And then our
spk_0 newer one, the Scythe Ti. That's an all titanium 30 caliber hunting style suppressor. We've found
spk_0 it to be extremely popular with the PRS crowd, the precision rifle long range crowd. It works on
spk_0 ARs, it works on bolt guns, but it weighs around seven ounces. It's about six inches long. You don't
spk_0 even really notice it on the end of a hunting rifle. So if you're out west and your climbing mountains
spk_0 going out on an elk hunt, you know, ounces make pounds and pounds make pain. And this thing is perfect
spk_0 for that guy. It is really, really quiet. It has really exceeded all our expectations. And
spk_0 that is the one I would recommend, especially if you've got more of a hunting listener group. Those
spk_0 guys should check that out for sure. How about like a temperature dispersion with that? Is that
spk_0 something you really want to run like a cover over it? Or is it better than your original?
spk_0 So the cover, we usually recommend a suppressor cover for mirage mitigation, especially in the
spk_0 hunting and long range shooting. You'll notice when that suppressor gets a little bit hot,
spk_0 you're going to get mirage and your optic. So the cover really helps to mitigate the mirage.
spk_0 Covers are also very appropriate for someone who's doing hard use. If someone's doing CQB drills
spk_0 or three gun and they shoot their suppressor and it's really hot, they sling it down and they go
spk_0 to transition to a pistol and that hot suppressor hits their leg. So those two use cases are
spk_0 pretty prevalent for suppressor covers. But the titanium, it's not as if you're running one of our
spk_0 hard use cans. We have the chimera, the saker, we have the velo's line. Those are more robustly built
spk_0 that you can get them hot, you can keep them hot, you can put them on a belt fed. There's no problem
spk_0 with heat. With the SIFTI, we typically see that in semi-automatic or bolt action applications.
spk_0 So as long as you're using semi-auto or bolt action applications, you're not going to really have
spk_0 to worry about the heat. If you're worrying about mirage for an optic, then I would run the cover
spk_0 for sure. Gotcha. Okay. Any other ones we haven't talked about yet that you want to plug?
spk_0 Let's see, in the rimfire category, the Sparrow is definitely our most popular. We have another
spk_0 really cool one called the switchback and that one is modular. So that will allow you to run
spk_0 four different configurations. You can run it in a long configuration, a medium or a short,
spk_0 and then we also have what's called the rifle optimized position. We actually remove the baffles
spk_0 in the in modular and the module. You turn them around, you put them in backwards and that's going
spk_0 to give you extra decibel reduction on a 10 inch or longer 22 barrel. So if you want the absolutely
spk_0 quietest setup, the switchback is a really, really good one. If you want to run it on different
spk_0 hosts, a pistol or rifle, you want it to be short or long, that one gives you some more options.
spk_0 And then in the rifle category, we have the Omega 36M. That is definitely one of our most
spk_0 popular. It's modular. So you can run it in a long or a short depending on what host weapon you
spk_0 want to shoot it on. And that will do everything from 338 Lapua and rifles all the way down to 223,
spk_0 556 and 9 millimeter in pistols. So it really does the three most popular calibers that we see for
spk_0 suppressors. That's your 956 and 300 blackout. So that one can will run all three of those and more.
spk_0 And you can run it in a short configuration on pistols. You can run it in the long configuration
spk_0 on rifles or vice versa, however you want. So really nicely optimized to your host.
spk_0 That's really impressive. Okay, question on like your modular ones and the one you were talking about
spk_0 where you can like flip it around for increased noise reduction. Is that going to have a lot of
spk_0 performance like either make it a lot faster, make it a lot shorter, you're going to have to like
spk_0 adjust your scope accordingly for that or is it like minimal difference there?
spk_0 Typically no. You may see some point of impact shift if you're changing things around with any
spk_0 suppressor. And the shorter you go, the less sound reduction you're going to get. So you know,
spk_0 the switchback and the short configuration is just a couple of inches long, right? So it's definitely
spk_0 not as effective as the full link version. But if you are putting it on a really small lightweight
spk_0 pistol or rifle and you don't want that weight, you kind of have to decide what's the most
spk_0 important feature, right? Is it sound reduction? Is it length? Is it weight? And then you you find
spk_0 the sweet spot. So the switchback having three different configurations of length is nice for
spk_0 someone who can find that that sweet spot. And then in the like omega 36M or our hybrid 46M,
spk_0 those two being our center fire rifle slash pistol suppressors. Typically we see the short
spk_0 configuration on pistols, the long configuration on rifles for extra sound reduction. But we do
spk_0 have some people that run the short configuration on their rifles because again, they're concerned
spk_0 more with length and weight than they are with sound. It tends to remain hearing safe with most
spk_0 calibers and most barrel links, even in the short configuration, hearing safe being 140 decibels
spk_0 under under 140 decibels. Gotcha. This you have given us an overwhelming amount of
spk_0 information here. I greatly appreciate your time. It was just a it was a really awesome crash course
spk_0 in suppressors. What they can do for you, you know, just a little bit more about I'm taking a
spk_0 little bit of the fear and unknown out of them. So just greatly appreciate your time. That was
spk_0 that was some awesome information. We're going to link all of the suppressors you talked about in
spk_0 the description of this podcast. And again, just thanks for joining us on this one. Thank you,
spk_0 I appreciate it. Thank you for having me.
