Hi, I'm Tim Keller, and I was a pastor in New York City for nearly three decades.
spk_0
And in that time, I spoke to so many skeptical New Yorkers who had strong doubts and unanswered
spk_0
questions about the Christian faith.
spk_0
I want to thank you for taking the time to explore the claims of Christianity.
spk_0
This podcast series is called Questioning Christianity and contains seven talks I gave in 2019,
spk_0
addressing some of the toughest questions people have about the Christian faith.
spk_0
If you say, nobody can know the truth because all truth is culturally constructed, well,
spk_0
that statement would have to be culturally constructed, and that means you wouldn't be
spk_0
able to know that.
spk_0
And what you're actually doing is you're saying, everybody's got their own truth, but
spk_0
what you're saying there, you would think that escapes the scalpel and it doesn't.
spk_0
Because if everybody's got their own truth, then that very statement is something that
spk_0
you've just made up and you have no reason why I should believe it.
spk_0
And so what burger says is ultimately complete relativism, the idea that nobody can know
spk_0
the truth always undermines itself.
spk_0
Because you get to the place where, well, how can you be sure of that?
spk_0
And he says, in the end, we have to go out and try to figure out which of these belief
spk_0
systems is most likely true.
spk_0
Do it humbly, do it in a, you know, be chastened, don't be arrogant.
spk_0
But you can't stop back and say, nobody can know the truth.
spk_0
You've got to get out and find out what the truth is.
spk_0
And in critical realism, we know that you can't prove any one of the sets of beliefs,
spk_0
but what you can do is you can ask at least three questions.
spk_0
Which of the sets of beliefs are the most consistent with our experience?
spk_0
Which of these sets of beliefs are most consistent with itself?
spk_0
And which of these sets of beliefs are the most consistent with the evidence?
spk_0
QC, as we like to call it, was a safe space for doubters and skeptics to ask questions
spk_0
and process the claims of Christianity in conversation.
spk_0
So I hope you find the talks and the Q&A sessions that follow each topic useful.
spk_0
And then when you hear something, you'd like to process further, that you seek out a friend
spk_0
who is a Christian and have a conversation with him or her about what you've heard.
