This calls for a certain team to solve this mystery.
spk_0

spk_0
Punch nose the ropes, gotta start up the street.
spk_0
Sound Detectives.
spk_0
I'm ony the ear here with heart and feet.
spk_0

spk_0
I'm detective to it who are ready to get the world back on track.
spk_0
The world back in soundtrack.

Every splat, every zap, every jump, every chew.
spk_0
Every ring, every ding, every new, every.
spk_0
What's that sound?
spk_0
Detectives.
spk_0
Welcome to the Museum of Sound.
spk_0
We've collected a treasure trove of sounds from across the globe for your listening enjoyment and enrichment.
spk_0
If you need a system, our mascot and re-tour guide, Audit Ears, will be happy to help.
spk_0
Just look for the three foot five inch human ear.
spk_0
Please turn off the phone.
spk_0
Detective Hunch.
spk_0
Audit.
spk_0
Thank you again for helping get everything ready for the grand opening of the museum.
spk_0
Who would have thought that untangling a box of headphones would take three pairs of hands and five ears?
spk_0
That's a good job there, Audit.
spk_0
Oh, thank you.
spk_0
Yeah, I have pretty nimble fingers.
spk_0
Each finger more nimble eaten in the next.
spk_0
This little nimble finger and then this little nimble finger.
spk_0
But in all seriousness, I couldn't have done this without you two.
spk_0
Ah, thank you.
spk_0
To think that just a short time ago, the world was on the brink of silence.
spk_0
Audi was but a young oracle and Hunch, the whole unsuspecting Hunch, you preferred to work alone.
spk_0
It is still prefer to work alone sometimes.
spk_0
Oh, sometimes. We're getting that down to no times.
spk_0
If I hadn't invented a machine that accidentally sucked up all of the world's sounds, we may have never met.
spk_0
We certainly wouldn't have marveled at the mechanical sound of a garbage truck.
spk_0
Oh, yeah. I think of trash Wednesdays completely differently now.
spk_0
Nor would we have wondered at the worrying of a Rickshaw engine.
spk_0
Ooh, that was a fun one.
spk_0
Uh-huh.
spk_0
You remember when you restored the beautiful whale songs?
spk_0
Oh, yeah. That one still gets me.
spk_0
A lot of saltwater.
spk_0
Right?
spk_0
Or when Matt Maxi helped us understand how the deaf and hard of hearing community experience in sounds.
spk_0
I'm still shot to you. It's such a cool friend, Hunch.
spk_0
I learned to love music, Vestival.
spk_0
And thanks to that case, we've added the closed captioning and subtitles that Audi is setting up right now.
spk_0
That's right. Just putting the finishing touches on it.
spk_0
All that to say.
spk_0
I simply couldn't have done this without you two.
spk_0
I must admit, Lavar, I was on the fence about taking this case when you first called me up.
spk_0
But I'm glad I did.
spk_0
It's become one of the most important cases I've ever helped solve.
spk_0
I'm glad you did, too, Hunch.
spk_0
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to work on my speech.
spk_0
As promised, I will come clean to the public today.
spk_0
Write my wrongs and admit that I was behind this whole mess.
spk_0
My only hope is that they can forgive me and that this incredible museum experience doesn't suffer for it.
spk_0
I have a good feeling about it.
spk_0
Oh, me, too. The museum's going to speak for itself.
spk_0
And yes, Lavar, you better put the final touches on that speech.
spk_0
Reporters are already arriving for the press conference.
spk_0
Oh, so they are.
spk_0
Can we get you over here, please?
spk_0
Okay. It's show time, people.
spk_0
I'll catch up with you both later.
spk_0
Gosh, it feels so good to close the book on this case.
spk_0
And I look forward to being publicly recognized for our great work.
spk_0
I think it's high time we all took a well-deserved vacation.
spk_0
Adi, we could finally take that trip to Yellowstone National Park.
spk_0
Adi?
spk_0
Adi?
spk_0
Did you hear what I said about Yellowstone? Where did you go?
spk_0
Oh, I couldn't.
spk_0
Ah, you know I want to see those bison, but hunch.
spk_0
We got a problem.
spk_0
Adi, I think the headphones are all set now.
spk_0
You just keep messing with them. They're going to get tangled.
spk_0
No, it's not that. It sounds like...
spk_0
Ah, sounds like what?
spk_0
It sounds like another sound-wit-missing. Quick, down the hall!
spk_0
What is that? I can't quite make it out. It's a little spooky.
spk_0
I know. Here, listen closely.
spk_0
Hmm. You know I take my job as the museum tour guide very seriously.
spk_0
I have studied every single sound that is catalogued in this museum.
spk_0
And this is not one of them.
spk_0
I've been chasing it around down here, but it's just...
spk_0
It's floating around the room. I can't catch it.
spk_0
What do you mean this isn't one of them?
spk_0
Don't tell me we have another sound on the loose.
spk_0
I'm not sure, but I've seen the Varkapture sounds before, so I'm going to give it a try.
spk_0
Here, throw me that souvenir museum of sound water bottle.
spk_0
Oh boy, just when you thought we were all done, come on.
spk_0
Adi, we got to catch this thing quick. Here you go.
spk_0
Thanks. Come here, you little sound.
spk_0
Get it, we got to get it.
spk_0
Come on, the quicker we get it, the quicker we can get up on that stage.
spk_0
We got it, catch it.
spk_0
No one can know there's another loose sound.
spk_0
This is supposed to be my big day.
spk_0
Come on, you can do it.
spk_0
You have to get it before it floats away. This is very embarrassing.
spk_0
I'm trying my best, Hunch.
spk_0
And she's still wanting to go in the bottle.
spk_0
Come on, you little does come, Bobby.
spk_0
Let it sound.
spk_0
Get it in the bottle.
spk_0
I'll get it.
spk_0
The floor is already walking up there.
spk_0
All right, it...
spk_0
Oh, I got it cornered.
spk_0
Yeah, I'm on you now.
spk_0
Oh, got it.
spk_0
Good thing this has a really strong cap.
spk_0
This is a quality made product.
spk_0
Oh, the news anchors are already in front of the museum.
spk_0
The LaVar is about to go on stage and give us a bank thank you.
spk_0
We need to be on that stage in front of those cameras taking credit for this success.
spk_0
Hunch, we got to get on that stage and alert everyone that there's another sound missing.
spk_0
Where are you the one who is so concerned with LaVar keeping all this a secret?
spk_0
You're the one who wanted him to be honest about all the missing sounds?
spk_0
Well, here we are.
spk_0
This is our chance.
spk_0
Ody, the story is world's greatest detectives return all of the sounds.
spk_0
Not world's greatest detectives return all of the sounds except for one.
spk_0
Oops.
spk_0
Oh, no, the news conference is already live.
spk_0
Oh, he...
spk_0
Someone put all of this scaffolding outside of the door.
spk_0
There's no way I'll get over to the stage in time.
spk_0
But I gotta try.
spk_0
Hunch, come on.
spk_0
No!
spk_0
Ody, come on.
spk_0
Hunch, you're...
spk_0
You're just...
spk_0
You're climbing for no good reason.
spk_0
I'm gonna get that sweet, sweet credit.
spk_0
Why don't we just walk around slowly?
spk_0
There's a handhold here.
spk_0
I think I can grab this.
spk_0
And then if I move my leg up this way...
spk_0
Hunch, come on.
spk_0
Ody, get up here.
spk_0
Come on, there's not much time left.
spk_0
I just gotta push this aside.
spk_0
And there's more stuff to climb.
spk_0
LaVar.
spk_0
Good evening, everyone.
spk_0
And thank you for joining us at the Museum of Sounds grand opening gala.
spk_0
We're so happy to have all of you audio enthusiasts here
spk_0
and thrilled that the world's sounds have all been returned just hours before the museum's opening.
spk_0
And now, please welcome famed inventor and our museum's founder, LaVar Burton.
spk_0
LaVar, come on in.
spk_0
spk_0
LaVar, come on in.
spk_0
Can you tell us why you feel made it your mission to open the museum of sound?
spk_0
LaVar, any surprises in store for us tonight.
spk_0
Any cool inventions you can play in the room.
spk_0
Hello, everyone.
spk_0
And thank you for coming out today to celebrate the grand opening of the Museum of Sound.
spk_0
I've been lucky enough to travel around the world and experience so many incredible sounds.
spk_0
And meet the people who hear them.
spk_0
Every day, I wanted to record all of the sounds and then store them all in one place so that everyone could enjoy them.
spk_0
And in doing so, learn more about each other and the world we inhabit.
spk_0
But I cut corners.
spk_0
I invented a machine that I thought would help speed up the process, but it backfired.
spk_0
All of a sudden, sounds actually went missing and I couldn't stop it.
spk_0
And when I finally got the machine under control, it was too late.
spk_0
Yes, I am responsible for the missing sounds.
spk_0
I am the so-called sound swimmer.
spk_0
I know I should have come clean when I discovered the problem,
spk_0
but I was too embarrassed to admit my mistake.
spk_0
Too proud to ask for help.
spk_0
And when I did seek help, I did so under false pretenses.
spk_0
I lied to my friends.
spk_0
In fact, you have my friends, detective Hunch, and the museum's own mascot, Audie the Ear,
spk_0
to thank for the sounds being returned.
spk_0
Audie?
spk_0
Hunch?
spk_0
Wait, where are Audie and Hunch?
spk_0
I'm over here.
spk_0
Here, Lavar, to your northeast.
spk_0
Lavar, look to your northeast.
spk_0
They must have stepped away.
spk_0
No, Lavar, that yourself, West, Lavar.
spk_0
North East, Lavar.
spk_0
Oh, no.
spk_0
Anyway, as I stand before you today,
spk_0
I offer my sincerest apologies.
spk_0
I hope you can understand and I hope you can forgive me.
spk_0
Wow.
spk_0
Beverly Beakman, and you heard it here first, folks.
spk_0
Lavar Burton has confessed to being the sound swindler,
spk_0
but will the world forgive him?
spk_0
We'll be right back.
spk_0
Welcome back to our adventure with Half-Prize Books.
spk_0
Today, I'm jumping into a story set where a lot of great journeys begin.
spk_0
When you hear that whistle, you know it's almost time to board.
spk_0
Watch out, someone's running late.
spk_0
All aboard.
spk_0
Well, I've got the right train, but which way to my compartment?
spk_0
Well, I must have my ticket here, somewhere.
spk_0
I'd better find it before the conductor gets here.
spk_0
At Half-Prize Books, stories can take you anywhere you want to go.
spk_0
Now, let's get back to our episode.
spk_0
And we're back.
spk_0
Hunch, come on. The press conference is over.
spk_0
Come on, Hunch. Get back out here.
spk_0
No, please, Lavar.
spk_0
Hunch, listen, I'm sorry. I know you love accolades,
spk_0
even though you say you don't, but then also later admit that you do.
spk_0
It's not a balcony. It's not a balcony.
spk_0
What I love the accolades.
spk_0
But you love the accolades. And I promise all accolades, y'all, you like.
spk_0
But we've got to get to the bottom of this mystery sound.
spk_0
Okay, I'm coming back in.
spk_0
Oh, you know, I'm just as upset as you are that I didn't make it to the stage in time.
spk_0
I'm proud of love to explain to everyone that we have not yet finished the case.
spk_0
Okay, well, since we missed the press conference, we might as well figure out what this mystery sound is,
spk_0
so that hopefully we can catch the reporters before they leave.
spk_0
And get some of that sweet, sweet credit.
spk_0
Well, Hunch, you know, for all the other mystery sounds, it was sort of exciting.
spk_0
It was a thrill to figure out what they were, and I knew I was helping the museum, but this sound?
spk_0
This sound has me really worried, Hunch.
spk_0
I know, Otty.
spk_0
I wish we could get Lovar's help, but he's so busy as so much on his plate.
spk_0
I know it's not a sound from this museum.
spk_0
Something else is going on. This is a rogue sound on the loose.
spk_0
It certainly sounds like it.
spk_0
First things first, back to what we know. Let's listen to the sound again.
spk_0
I'm going to open this beautifully crafted water bottle.
spk_0
Okay, because I have really good ears, because I am one.
spk_0
I can hear that there's a high pitch frequency as a part of this sound.
spk_0
Really, really high.
spk_0
And there's a worrying...
spk_0
Almost like...
spk_0
Almost like a vacuum cleaner.
spk_0
Oh, yeah.
spk_0
Yeah, you know, like a bigger vacuum cleaner being dragged.
spk_0
Kind of like when it's my turn to vacuum the office, and I make a lot more sounds
spk_0
because I drop everything because I'm only three feet five inches tall.
spk_0
It's not built for someone three feet five inches tall.
spk_0
Oh, close up to our bottle.
spk_0
Well, that's a good place to start.
spk_0
A vacuum cleaner will be easy to find.
spk_0
As the museum of sounds lead toward guide and mascot,
spk_0
I can tell you that we have a fantastic janitorial staff
spk_0
who keep an industrial grade vacuum cleaner on each floor.
spk_0
Yes, see, hunch.
spk_0
Unlike a lot of other museums that might have bare walls,
spk_0
linoleum.
spk_0
Linoleum or marble floors where sounds could echo.
spk_0
Hmm, the museum of sound was designed with soundproofing walls and carpet
spk_0
so that each sound could be isolated and enjoyed.
spk_0
But that means you gotta be ready to vacuum.
spk_0
Fair enough.
spk_0
Okay, here's the closet.
spk_0
Okay, and...
spk_0
Oops!
spk_0
Oh no!
spk_0
Ah, a box of light bulbs.
spk_0
Oops, sorry.
spk_0
Oh, sorry. Watch out.
spk_0
Oops, a box of water bottles.
spk_0
Oh, goodness. Gracious.
spk_0
Oops, sorry.
spk_0
Oops, sorry.
spk_0
Oops, sorry.
spk_0
spk_0
Oh, here's the vacuum hunch.
spk_0
But could you grab it?
spk_0
It's a little big for someone who's three feet five inches tall.
spk_0
Don't mind if I do.
spk_0
Hmm, gotta find an outlet here, honey.
spk_0
Oh, there should be one every six feet off center from the center studs.
spk_0
Wow, you really know your stuff.
spk_0
Oh, there it goes.
spk_0
Okay, it has a similar high pitch sound and definitely a worry.
spk_0
Hmm, definitely mechanical and machine-like.
spk_0
But I would say it has way more air circling through it.
spk_0
The mystery sound doesn't have as much of a wind-waring sound.
spk_0
Yeah, this is close, but it's not quite there.
spk_0
Hmm.
spk_0
spk_0
You know, this vacuum is helping to calm my nerves a little bit.
spk_0
It almost makes a white noise sound.
spk_0
Do you know about white noise hunch?
spk_0
It's a mix of sound frequencies to create a static-like sound.
spk_0
White noise can be calming, relaxing, creating a humming sound just like the vacuum.
spk_0
Okay, but people love white noise, hunch.
spk_0
Otty.
spk_0
Even babies sometimes sleep with them.
spk_0
That's how relaxing it is.
spk_0
Now this sound is no white noise, but let's dig deeper into the science of white noise in.
spk_0
White singing on ears, whacking on ears.
spk_0
Here we go, we're waxing on ears.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
We do not have time for this.
spk_0
Fair enough.
spk_0
We gotta figure out where this sound is from.
spk_0
Now, Otty, can you open the bottle so we can compare and contrast?
spk_0
You're right.
spk_0
I love waxing on ears, but sometimes there is no time to wax on your ears.
spk_0
Let's go to a classic step 17, comparing contrast.
spk_0
Let's get that sound again.
spk_0
It sounds like it's in a much bigger area.
spk_0
Right, but it doesn't totally echo.
spk_0
And there's something that's sort of moving around.
spk_0
It sounds like a machine that's moving.
spk_0
There's a high pitch word at the top.
spk_0
There's a muffled sound.
spk_0
And that sounds like something opening.
spk_0
And then, weet, waxed to straight up, squeak.
spk_0
There's a lot of squeaking and squealing.
spk_0
Squealing and squealing.
spk_0
Like something trying to turn over but having a hard time doing it.
spk_0
Maybe over rocks or soil?
spk_0
Sure.
spk_0
Something that's moving, but it's having trouble.
spk_0
And something not too big.
spk_0
Oh, Otty.
spk_0
What?
spk_0
Like a remote control car.
spk_0
Oh, those are fun.
spk_0
Hi, I use them as roller skates.
spk_0
Oh, Otty, you are such a scamp.
spk_0
But I saw some kids playing with a remote control car outside.
spk_0
Quick, let's go investigate before the museum opens its doors.
spk_0
Oh, well, that's only 15 minutes away.
spk_0
We'll leave it a hurry.
spk_0
Okay, oh, there they are.
spk_0
Ooh, several different cars.
spk_0
Pretty cool.
spk_0
Oh, look at them race.
spk_0
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
spk_0
Hey, careful.
spk_0
That one almost hit me.
spk_0
Wow.
spk_0
Hi, I'm Otty.
spk_0
I'm a three foot five inch tall ear.
spk_0
Hey, cut that out.
spk_0
I almost got a hit by a bullgat.
spk_0
All right, well, they're making a tumbling sound.
spk_0
A lot of worrying.
spk_0
Oh, I'm going to get a car.
spk_0
spk_0
spk_0
spk_0
Yep.
spk_0
And squeaking and squealing.
spk_0
And it's definitely mechanical.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
But there was a bigger tumble in our mystery sound.
spk_0
And the thing I can't get over, hunch,
spk_0
is that it sounds so much more muffled.
spk_0
You know, almost like the sound is coming to us in a different way.
spk_0
It's hard to describe.
spk_0
It's almost like nothing I've ever heard before.
spk_0
Oh, oh, no, our time is running out, hunch.
spk_0
Look, they're rolling out the red carpet as we speak.
spk_0
There's Levar.
spk_0
We're going to have to tell him what's going on.
spk_0
Oh, Levar.
spk_0
Uh, Levar.
spk_0
Hey.
spk_0
Oh, your speech was so beautiful.
spk_0
Oh, thank you, Otty.
spk_0
I'm sorry.
spk_0
We have to tell you something.
spk_0
We just found a new rogue sound in the museum.
spk_0
A random sound that shouldn't have been there.
spk_0
No.
spk_0
We thought we returned all the mystery sounds, but uh...
spk_0
No!
spk_0
Oh, no.
spk_0
This can't be happening.
spk_0
You assured us that the machine was in your possession.
spk_0
Well, yes.
spk_0
My machine is in my possession.
spk_0
Your machine?
spk_0
You're in my...
spk_0
As in, there's more than one machine.
spk_0
Well, when the world sounds began to go missing,
spk_0
I didn't know what to do or who to turn to.
spk_0
But I thought of my protege, my oldest sister, Dr. Onomato.
spk_0
She's a fellow sound lover and genius engineer.
spk_0
I showed her the plans for the machine to see if she could help me figure out what went wrong.
spk_0
So you're saying maybe she built another machine with the power to suck up sounds?
spk_0
It's not outside the realm of possibility.
spk_0
When I showed her the plans, she scoffed at their simplicity,
spk_0
but Dr. Onomato would never steal sounds.
spk_0
I don't know, Lvar.
spk_0
This could be bad.
spk_0
Hunch?
spk_0
Audi?
spk_0
Please.
spk_0
Can you help me solve this last missing sound before anyone finds out?
spk_0
I just announced to the whole world that the problem was solved,
spk_0
that there would be no more missing sounds.
spk_0
Uh, uh, of course, Lvar.
spk_0
We'll do it every weekend.
spk_0
Hmm.
spk_0
A rum.
spk_0
Um, I don't know, Hunch.
spk_0
I'm starting to feel kind of defeated.
spk_0
We have no more leads.
spk_0
We have no more leads.
spk_0
The museum opens in just a few minutes.
spk_0
It's starting to get dark outside.
spk_0
I just don't know what we should do.
spk_0
And what if there are more sounds out there missing?
spk_0
What if this is the dastardly work of Dr. Onomato?
spk_0
I mean, would someone really steal the sounds on her face?
spk_0
Or what if there's a completely different bad guy, a second sound swindler
spk_0
that we haven't even thought about?
spk_0
Oh.
spk_0
Hmm.
spk_0
I wish I could figure out where to start.
spk_0
Wow.
spk_0
So many vast directions we could go.
spk_0
Like, the multitude of the stars.
spk_0
Yeah, it's a really clear night, especially for being in the city.
spk_0
Corgeous.
spk_0
Oh, look.
spk_0
A shooting star.
spk_0
Oh, I don't believe in saying wishes out loud,
spk_0
but I'll tell you, I'm wishing.
spk_0
I wish we could solve this case.
spk_0
You know, space is magical.
spk_0
I wonder what it sounds like up there.
spk_0
Cush.
spk_0
I sound like you, Adi, always thinking about hearing and sounds.
spk_0
You've rubbed off on me, but...
spk_0
Wait.
spk_0
If we don't know what things sound like in space,
spk_0
and neither of us can think of anything on Earth that this sounds like,
spk_0
maybe the sound is so unfamiliar because it's not from Earth,
spk_0
it's from space.
spk_0
What could it be, Adi?
spk_0
I know, sounds in space.
spk_0
I mean, that's an infinite list.
spk_0
Hmm.
spk_0
One that's always growing.
spk_0
Ever expanding.
spk_0
Oh, Adi, I know just the person asked.
spk_0
Really?
spk_0
Yes, of course.
spk_0
You see, Adi, when I was about 10 years old,
spk_0
not quite 11, but certainly not 9.
spk_0
Not one of these stories.
spk_0
I was very, very into bugs.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
In fact, did you know that the Orchid Mantis resembles an Orchid in order to catch prey?
spk_0
I mean, you were always full of fascinating facts, hunts, but what does this have to do with space?
spk_0
Well, I'm getting there, Adi.
spk_0
My parents were so annoyed by me constantly bringing home bugs
spk_0
and keeping them as pets.
spk_0
They'd say, why did you bring all these crickets and roaches into the house?
spk_0
Our house is filled with crickets and roaches.
spk_0
They finally said that they were sending me to camp,
spk_0
where I could be out in nature with all the bugs I wanted, all summer long.
spk_0
That's a good solve all.
spk_0
Which is a very long way of saying, Adi.
spk_0
You always do have a long way of saying.
spk_0
I made a bunch of friends at that camp.
spk_0
Good for you.
spk_0
And one of them ended up working for NASA.
spk_0
Oh!
spk_0
Her name is Nagin Cox.
spk_0
She works for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
spk_0
In Pasadena?
spk_0
California, Adi.
spk_0
Oh, that might be just the lead we're looking for.
spk_0
Only one way to find out.
spk_0
I'm going to give her a ring on my cellular phone.
spk_0
Hi, Nagin.
spk_0
It's Hunch.
spk_0
Hey, the guy from camp.
spk_0
Yes, insect boy.
spk_0
No, no time for pleasantries.
spk_0
I know this is kind of a weird question, but it's urgent and I need to know.
spk_0
Do you know what this sound is?
spk_0
So what you're hearing is the sound of a rover driving on Mars.
spk_0
A rover driving on Mars.
spk_0
Yes, a magical swish.
spk_0
A magical swish, a sound I love so much.
spk_0
I thought I'd never have to hear it again.
spk_0
But hearing it one more time is pretty delightful.
spk_0
I wonder what a magical swish sounds like in space.
spk_0
Beverly Beakman coming to you live with some news that is out of this world.
spk_0
The sound of the Mars rover has been returned.
spk_0
And most of us on Earth had no idea it was missing.
spk_0
But for some space explorers and engineers, this was a nail-biter.
spk_0
Such was the case for one engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory here in Pasadena, California.
spk_0
My name is Nagin Cox and I am one of the mission leads on the Mars Curiosity rover as well as the Mars Perseverance rover.
spk_0
Thanks for joining us.
spk_0
You have an amazing job.
spk_0
And before we talk about the sound that was returned,
spk_0
can you tell us why is it that you sent these robotic rovers to Mars?
spk_0
Mars has always had kind of a special interest for us because you can go outside and see it.
spk_0
You can look up and see this red dot.
spk_0
And so we've always had kind of an astronomical interest in what is that in the sky.
spk_0
But in addition to that, it's one of our nearest neighbors.
spk_0
So it's a place that we hope to actually send humans.
spk_0
And what we learn from other planets helps us understand our own.
spk_0
That makes a lot of sense.
spk_0
Now about this sound that was returned, this is from the Perseverance rover's recent mission on Mars.
spk_0
And it's so cool. What are we hearing?
spk_0
So we have microphones that we took with us this time that actually capture the sound of the rover as it's crunching over the Mars.
spk_0
And it's a Marsian soil with its metallic wheels.
spk_0
And you're also hearing how that sounds in the Martian atmosphere where you hear more of the bass sound.
spk_0
And a little less of the higher frequencies.
spk_0
So it's not quite as loud and it's more muffled.
spk_0
So this is what it sounds like to be driving off-road on Mars.
spk_0
Wow, I'm starting to get an idea of just what it would be like to be there on the surface of Mars.
spk_0
The sound of the rover driving is, you know, it's not like there are lots of other sounds.
spk_0
I imagine it in the stillness and the quiet of Mars. Right? It's almost poetic.
spk_0
And what kind of scientific information, what kind of clues do you get about Mars from listening to the rover drive around?
spk_0
When we hear the sounds of the rover driving, I know very well what the wheels moving on Earth sounds like.
spk_0
And then when you hear it on Mars, your mind very quickly goes, okay, wait, so that's...
spk_0
Oh yeah, there's the same sound I heard on Earth. And then it sounds different. Then you realize, ah, it's also driving around on Mars and terrain, which as much as we think we know what that's like, it's still brand new to hear that.
spk_0
And so you recognize parts of it. It's almost like you can subtract out the ground truth thing. The sounds that you heard on Earth.
spk_0
You compare and contrast the sounds to figure out how Mars is different from Earth, okay? Now, again, I know you've used your detective skills to figure out a lot about Mars, but I'm sure there's still a lot you want to know.
spk_0
So what other mysteries do you want to solve?
spk_0
Mars is now cold and dry and lifeless, but we've learned from these missions that it was not always that way.
spk_0
And it actually turns out that Mars was once much more like the Earth with oceans and rivers and water.
spk_0
And so that raises the question of, so what happened? Is there life anywhere else in the solar system?
spk_0
And is our world our beautiful blue-green habitable world? Is it truly unique? And that reminds us to cherish our home.
spk_0
Thank you for that reminder, McGin. This has been a special report for Major News.
spk_0
Woo! That was a close one. But you know, as always, your top notch detective skills are what saved the day.
spk_0
Of course. Bravo, my friends. Bravo. Bravo.
spk_0
Plus for us. You know, the sky is so clear tonight that if you look close enough, you might just see that rover driving around.
spk_0
Really? No, I'm kidding. It's too far. Anyway, after tonight's fiasco, Lovar, I understand why you didn't go to the press right away when the machine first went rogue.
spk_0
If I were you, I probably would have done the same thing.
spk_0
No, no, no, no. You and Audi were right.
spk_0
It's good to be honest. And leaning on your friends in times like these is important.
spk_0
I think sure I'm gonna miss you too.
spk_0
Oh, you still got me, Lovar. I can't wait to work here every day.
spk_0
Greet everyone, say, welcome kids to the Museum of Sound.
spk_0
So many sounds to explore. But might as suggest the subtle link of a pigly wiggly while it sleeps.
spk_0
But I will miss all three of us working together.
spk_0
You know, I think tonight's missing sound was just a fluke. And that I was blowing this whole doctor on a motto business way out of proportion.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So congratulations, detectives. You did it.
spk_0
You solved the sound mysteries and sussed out the identity of the sound swindler.
spk_0
Case closed.
spk_0
That's a great sound. Case closed.
spk_0
I'll see.
spk_0
You really think we're all wrapped up, Lovar?
spk_0
I have a hunch we are. And to celebrate, I've got this bottle of sparkling apple cider.
spk_0
Ooh, delicious.
spk_0
Oh, I love it.
spk_0
Oh, lovely.
spk_0
Ah, cheers. Cheers.
spk_0
Hey, Lovar, you couldn't have gotten us a new bottle. This one's flat. There are no bubbles.
spk_0
No, I just popped the cork. It's brand new.
spk_0
Ah, then where's the fizz?
spk_0
Oh, no.
spk_0
I can see it, but I can't hear it.
spk_0
Hear it.
spk_0
Ready for this next case, Adi?
spk_0
You bet I am hunch.
spk_0
Hey, I've got some for you.
spk_0
Ah, well, that's your safety deposit box.
spk_0
Oh, well, you have to open it.
spk_0
But that's your first Fedora trench coat and detective solvalls handbook for young detectives.
spk_0
And now, there are your child-sized Fedora, trench coat and detective solvalls handbook for young detectives.
spk_0
She thinks, hunch.
spk_0
As you know by now, Adi, rule number 483 says that you should know when a case requires a partner.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
Rule number 484 says, recognize when something's too big for you to handle on your own.
spk_0
Exactly.
spk_0
Sometimes a great detective needs a great partner.
spk_0
And I think I found mine.
spk_0
Ah, thanks, hunch.
spk_0
You know I've been wanting to partner with you since day one.
spk_0
Ooh, the world's mysteries.
spk_0
We know match for hunch and Adi.
spk_0
Partners.
spk_0
Partners forever.
spk_0
Partners forever.
spk_0
Just like Sherlock.
spk_0
And Watson.
spk_0
And Nancy Drew.
spk_0
She did it on her own.
spk_0
And the Hardy Boys.
spk_0
I know it's Tuesday, so we should be getting ready to do teriyaki slam.
spk_0
But I was worrying if tonight we could do a little twist on the classic and try teriyaki toast.
spk_0
Does that sound good to you?
spk_0
Sounds great to me.
spk_0
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
spk_0
We have fun.
spk_0
Oh.
spk_0
Oh.
spk_0
Oh.
spk_0
Oh.
spk_0
spk_0
Oh.
spk_0
spk_0
Oh.
spk_0
Oh.
spk_0
Oh.
spk_0
Hey, don't forget this case isn't cracked.
spk_0

Hey there! Thanks to you and the Solval Squad, we were able to figure out the mystery sound from the last episode.
spk_0
Let's listen one last time.
spk_0
You helped us identify that sound as a close dryer, right? A close dryer.
spk_0
Hey! You have helped us solve all of the mystery sounds this season.
spk_0
But I have a feeling there are more mysteries of foot.
spk_0
And you know what? I think the Solval Squad is pretty top notch.
