spk_0 I make this coffee for Sean every day.
spk_0
spk_0 We've gone to many coffee shops all over the world,
spk_0 and she says no coffee measures up to the coffee I make.
spk_0 So if you're able to make one, the rivals, it's saying a lot.
spk_0 I am obsessed with dogs, and I feel like I used to read
spk_0 Encyclopedias of dogs.
spk_0 Really?
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 But they would like circle us, and they were like barking at you
spk_0 and jumping at you.
spk_0 And I'm like, oh, good job.
spk_0 Good boy.
spk_0 Welcome to Dogs and Coffee, where we sit down with inspiring
spk_0 animal lovers, coffee lovers, comedians sometimes.
spk_0 But overall, everyday heroes and over a great cup of coffee.
spk_0 I'm Rocky Kanaka.
spk_0 And I'm Kelly Kanaka.
spk_0 Each week we bring you real conversations and heartfelt stories
spk_0 about the incredible bond between people and their pets.
spk_0 OK, today's guest is an Olympian, like an actual, like a real Olympian.
spk_0 I know.
spk_0 Sean Johnson East.
spk_0 And her husband, Andrew East.
spk_0 Yes, also a former NFL long snapper.
spk_0 And what we like about them is their family first duo building
spk_0 community through their family made media brand and couples
spk_0 things podcast.
spk_0 Their moment makers foundation fund family centered initiatives,
spk_0 including childcare grants for athlete parents.
spk_0 On top of that, they're raising three kids in Nashville and share
spk_0 their life with two gold retrievers, long time sidekick Nash
spk_0 in Oakley and nine month old rescue they adopted.
spk_0 Gold retrievers in the house.
spk_0 Everybody loves gold and would you be a golden retriever?
spk_0 I had a golden retriever growing up.
spk_0 I had a red golden.
spk_0 So, but what would dog would you identify as?
spk_0 Oh, a scrappy terrier.
spk_0 Yeah, I think that's probably.
spk_0 Oh, I mean, oh, really?
spk_0 Gosh, babe.
spk_0 I feel like Zoe with me reincarnated.
spk_0 I mean, what gosh, babe, I wouldn't even
spk_0 realize you'd be a scrappy terrier.
spk_0 Smart, smart and loving and gentle and kind.
spk_0 Well, I guess we already know you'd be a boxer boxer.
spk_0 Yeah, a boxer for sure.
spk_0 There we go.
spk_0 OK, full disclosure.
spk_0 We actually know Sean and Andrew.
spk_0 It's been a while since we've talked to them, but we've spent
spk_0 some time with them in Los Angeles.
spk_0 And they're a lot of fun.
spk_0 And since then, our lives have changed a lot.
spk_0 Their lives have changed a lot.
spk_0 And I don't think we've ever had a serious conversation with them.
spk_0 So it's going to be a lot of fun to sit down and really get
spk_0 to know them again and share their journey with everyone
spk_0 listening because they're passionate dog lovers.
spk_0 I can't wait for them to tell us about their dogs.
spk_0 Now, we know about Nash, their golden retriever.
spk_0 I can't wait for them to tell us about their rescue golden
spk_0 retriever and learn more about this Olympian.
spk_0 I mean, you grew up watching her.
spk_0 I imagine.
spk_0 I did my family out her Nasi Luchen.
spk_0 I was a big fan.
spk_0 Like my brother always told me because of my size and stature
spk_0 that I should have been a gymnast.
spk_0 But I like never I'd never did anything.
spk_0 Gigastic wise.
spk_0 Yeah, you would have been an Olympian for sure.
spk_0 Absolutely.
spk_0 You know, I think everybody thinks when they're watching the Olympics,
spk_0 they're like, oh, yeah, I could do that.
spk_0 Yeah, but no, there's no chance.
spk_0 There's no chance.
spk_0 OK, sad story.
spk_0 What?
spk_0 Great way to.
spk_0 Oh, yeah.
spk_0 Good tradition.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 What's going on?
spk_0 I was also in gymnastics when I was a kid.
spk_0 Oh, I loved it.
spk_0 And one day coach comes to me and he says, Rocky,
spk_0 we won't have you back because you're too tall.
spk_0 And you're out growing the, what are the bars called
spk_0 that you circle around like you do the, I don't know,
spk_0 I can't.
spk_0 Well, not the rings, but like the bars that you do the thing
spk_0 and the bat flips off of and the bars.
spk_0 What's called?
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 And I said, OK.
spk_0 And then, and then I hear my mom crying on the phone saying,
spk_0 thank you, I'm sorry, if we can get budget again,
spk_0 we'll come back.
spk_0 Well, we couldn't afford it.
spk_0 I could have been an Olympian if I would.
spk_0 Yes.
spk_0 You could have been, but life took you another bath.
spk_0 You know what time it is?
spk_0 The scoop.
spk_0 The scoop.
spk_0 OK, I have an article for you about this little dog
spk_0 who was abandoned in a sealed box.
spk_0 But now he is living the life with his dad, traveling.
spk_0 So he, this Elko, a tiny docks and chihuahua
spk_0 Jack Russell mix has been living the dream life
spk_0 after being adopted from a guy in LA.
spk_0 And he's visited 40 countries.
spk_0 That's more than me times a lot.
spk_0 40 countries.
spk_0 How do you even do that?
spk_0 How do you afford that?
spk_0 How do you do that?
spk_0 How do you, like, I struggle to get the airline to take a dog,
spk_0 let alone a dog going all over the world with you?
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 So it says here that he had a corporate job that he quit
spk_0 and gave up his study nine to five to chase his adventure.
spk_0 He sold everything.
spk_0 And now he's got decent Instagram following.
spk_0 And I'm sure that's probably what helps
spk_0 enable him to keep traveling.
spk_0 Interesting.
spk_0 That's kind of the dream, isn't it?
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 And no matter how old is this guy, do you think?
spk_0 If you had to guess, like his younger middle age old age guy.
spk_0 OK, mid-aged guy.
spk_0 I don't know.
spk_0 I mean, the dog is super cute.
spk_0 Well, white.
spk_0 Yeah, there are times in your life.
spk_0 Like, if you ever, OK, obviously,
spk_0 because dogs don't live forever, unfortunately.
spk_0 But there are times in your life where I would highly recommend
spk_0 adopting a small dog.
spk_0 They can travel with you when you're younger.
spk_0 And you can do it before you're tied down with all kinds of,
spk_0 I was going to say, responsibilities,
spk_0 but I meant blessings.
spk_0 I had to think about my audience here of my beautiful wife.
spk_0 No, you know, it couldn't be hard.
spk_0 We treated a lot more before we had kids and dogs.
spk_0 And when you retired is a great time to do it.
spk_0 And so being able to go to the shelter, adopt a small dog,
spk_0 and have that dog travel the world with you, pretty cool.
spk_0 Yeah, but I think also too, you can consider your lifestyle.
spk_0 Like if you like doing road trips and camping and things like that,
spk_0 it's been like, or going on RV trips,
spk_0 like that makes it a lot easier for a bigger dog.
spk_0 Whereas if you're flying little dog,
spk_0 I feel like it's a little way to go.
spk_0 Which, you know, I think that's probably more my personality.
spk_0 Like I would love to travel.
spk_0 But, but I love America.
spk_0 And like traveling from coast to coast with your dog and camping
spk_0 and just seeing all the sights and them getting to run, you know,
spk_0 through the great plains and over the Colorado Rockies.
spk_0 And like, it just seems like the dream.
spk_0 It really does.
spk_0 And, you know, in what like in a Subaru.
spk_0 Like isn't that in that the dream?
spk_0 Or like a venture, Mercedes sprinter van.
spk_0 Uh-huh.
spk_0 No, this is sponsored.
spk_0 I'm just, I'm just building the picture here for you.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Well, how would you, how would you build your dog traveling experience?
spk_0 Well, you want me to build it for you?
spk_0 I already know.
spk_0 I'm afraid to say because we had somebody who commented
spk_0 that I was shallow or based off something
spk_0 that I said in a previous episode.
spk_0 So it was one comment most every comment.
spk_0 People are really supportive for this new dogs and coffee podcast.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 But can I, can I guess and then you tell me if that's right or not?
spk_0 Sure.
spk_0 Or I could just tell you, I don't share.
spk_0 I would be in a hotel with my dogs in, uh, going from hotel to hotel.
spk_0 But with kids, I would, I would camp.
spk_0 I would do that sort of stuff.
spk_0 It's just after a couple days, I'm like, all right, I need, yeah, I need, I, yeah.
spk_0 I need a min pin under the covers in Italy.
spk_0 Yes.
spk_0 Exactly.
spk_0 Eating pasta.
spk_0 Eating pasta.
spk_0 You and the dog.
spk_0 No, I mean, I could do it.
spk_0 I've done it.
spk_0 We've camped and things like that.
spk_0 But I just, you know, it's like you're already short on sleep
spk_0 because you have kids.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Which won't talk about what time they got us up this morning.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Um, and so when I go on vacation, I like to just now feel like it's a vacation,
spk_0 although we're finding that a vacation is much different than family time.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 So true.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 So anyways, uh, yeah, I would take a little dog with me for sure.
spk_0 I do.
spk_0 Are you stupid?
spk_0 Is that mean snoop?
spk_0 Well, oh, yes.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 And it seems like maybe you've lost that love and feel in just a little bit here.
spk_0 Um, so I'm going to just bring you back to the dream.
spk_0 I've got, I, I have a story for you that I,
spk_0 I, I have been wanting to share with you all week, but I've been saving it for this
spk_0 moment right here right now.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 Great.
spk_0 I'm excited for this.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 So let me, let me build it for you.
spk_0 So okay.
spk_0 So there's this guy and gal that I imagine like the, it's beautiful.
spk_0 It's in the middle of the field.
spk_0 You've got like a perfect tree there under and they're about to get married.
spk_0 They're about to say they're vows.
spk_0 Uh-huh.
spk_0 And, uh, and so you've got the bride and the groom and, and you can tell young and
spk_0 happy and in love.
spk_0 And right when they're about to do the I do, like it, it's about
spk_0 to happen.
spk_0 The groom puts his hand up and says, hold on.
spk_0 And you can see almost the terror in the bride's eyes of like, oh no, what, you
spk_0 know, is this going to be like one of those joke moments where like he drops the ring
spk_0 or like what's it going to be?
spk_0 He exits.
spk_0 He leaves.
spk_0 Uh-huh.
spk_0 He comes back with a present.
spk_0 It's a puppy.
spk_0 I mean, like a brand new puppy.
spk_0 She had no idea and he surprises her with that.
spk_0 The dream or oh my goodness, what were you thinking?
spk_0 What was I thinking marrying you?
spk_0 Like, let's not do this.
spk_0 Which one?
spk_0 Uh, I feel like it could go either way.
spk_0 Right?
spk_0 Well, what way do you think it went?
spk_0 Oh, I, I feel like it probably went well.
spk_0 Like I feel like if you're getting weird, you probably know your girl and
spk_0 you're like, we've talked about this, but you're probably like, oh, one day,
spk_0 not now.
spk_0 We got to pay for the wedding.
spk_0 We got to pay for all the things.
spk_0 We can't get a dog and then surprise.
spk_0 I, I'm, it's refreshing.
spk_0 You're giving the groom so much credit because I feel like sometimes, uh, we, maybe we
spk_0 don't think it through that much.
spk_0 Well, okay.
spk_0 So I was just thinking from our wedding.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 If you would have surprised me in that circumstance, I think my head would have
spk_0 exploded because I got engaged and married on the same day.
spk_0 So it was already too much emotion overload.
spk_0 And then you throw in a puppy like I would have been incapable of functioning.
spk_0 It's over the top.
spk_0 So okay, but this in, but the neat thing is you can tell it was just right.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Because when I first saw the reason I watched the whole thing was not for the romance,
spk_0 I was like, oh, no, you didn't like because I wear the clean of crew.
spk_0 We're at the shelters, right?
spk_0 You know, in January.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 When people buy dogs as presents for the family and then they just get returned
spk_0 to the shelter.
spk_0 And that's really heartbreaking.
spk_0 Um, so just, oh, just.
spk_0 Yeah, I would say in general, don't do this.
spk_0 Um, but it worked out.
spk_0 They were, you could tell they were happy as a clam and it really made,
spk_0 it really made the moment so special.
spk_0 And so I think that'll be something they have to talk about where they're
spk_0 grandchildren, you know?
spk_0 Um, okay.
spk_0 On this next one, um, I saw a TikTok video of a blind man who had his
spk_0 guide dog named Kane, uh, moving people to tears.
spk_0 Like it's got millions of views.
spk_0 What happened?
spk_0 Well, um, so it's this account that just goes around and meets dogs on the street.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 But he was talking about how his guide dog has given him just newfound freedom
spk_0 and life because he hadn't been able to go about and do things.
spk_0 He said, if he didn't have him, he'd just be at home and it took him three
spk_0 years to get this guide dog, which I feel like you think those things are
spk_0 just readily available.
spk_0 They're not.
spk_0 No, you're right.
spk_0 They're not.
spk_0 I could see what that would be really moving.
spk_0 We get emails on the regular.
spk_0 I'd say an average of one to two week of people asking for a guide dog,
spk_0 yeah, or to send them money for their guide dog.
spk_0 It's expensive.
spk_0 It's expensive.
spk_0 And it's not like it's not like they're begging or like my heart goes out to them.
spk_0 I, I wish I could.
spk_0 I can't respond every single one of them because yeah, I think everyone thinks,
spk_0 okay, well, if you're blind, you can get a guide dog.
spk_0 That's not the case.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 And it's really expensive and therapy dogs are really hard.
spk_0 And so not only do you have to, you know, have the condition, have a doctor,
spk_0 a green light, you know, they're just so many steps.
spk_0 And and I think the thing people don't realize is even the organization's doing this.
spk_0 It's not like they're money grubbing organizations.
spk_0 If you think about it, you have to, you have to take a dog.
spk_0 Not every dog is suited for this.
spk_0 Like one of my favorite things are dogs that fail out of these classes.
spk_0 Because they're amazing dogs, you know, but it sounds funny.
spk_0 It sounds like an oxymoron, right?
spk_0 Because they're like, oh, they failed out of this class.
spk_0 Well, but they're still like 99% more trained and observant than most dogs.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 So, but it takes years.
spk_0 And then sometimes you don't even know and then they don't make it.
spk_0 And so are they like they don't get in the class or then they get adopted?
spk_0 Or they don't get paired with the right human.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 They're so specialized for a particular need.
spk_0 And then also personality and lifestyle.
spk_0 So it's.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 So and I'm not I'm not well versed on this.
spk_0 Not I should be a lot more versed on this because I know there's some organizations
spk_0 that are using rescue dogs to do this, but a lot still follow that kind of traditional
spk_0 standard of certain breeds with specific traits.
spk_0 Because they have to be very exact in that.
spk_0 And hopefully, you know, leave us a comment.
spk_0 Let us know if you've experienced or you know more about this.
spk_0 But in the cost is factored not just that dog.
spk_0 It's not like that dog costs 40,000.
spk_0 It's the labor.
spk_0 It's the time.
spk_0 It's the maybe I don't know what the like the fail rate is, but it, but it's maybe
spk_0 the two dogs that came before that one that didn't make it all the way through the program.
spk_0 So it's hard.
spk_0 So like when you see a guy like this who is blind, who finally got his dog and now he has
spk_0 freedom and he matters and he can be a person again.
spk_0 It just shows the like how amazing dogs are and how lucky we are to have them at
spk_0 its highest level.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 And then one other note that they have on this article as to when it's right and wrong
spk_0 to pet a working dog.
spk_0 Oh, I will tell you the answer.
spk_0 Just don't.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Just don't because most of the time when you see them, they're working.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Otherwise, they would have their vest on.
spk_0 They exactly, exactly.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 This week's adoptable dog is a cute, perfect sweet little puppy.
spk_0 Seven month old Palmer based out of Houston, Texas.
spk_0 Oh, wow.
spk_0 Wait a minute.
spk_0 Wait a minute.
spk_0 What in the world kind of dog is this?
spk_0 Look, he's got.
spk_0 Look at this.
spk_0 His head's like bigger in his body.
spk_0 Maybe that's just the way the scarf's.
spk_0 It could also be because he's a puppy.
spk_0 So I don't like puppies kind of have that big wobbly head.
spk_0 What he makes is he.
spk_0 Well, that's I'm glad you asked.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 Because it says here that he's a Chow Chow.
spk_0 So I don't know how that's possible.
spk_0 But in your mind, think of a white Chow and a chow and way to get's better.
spk_0 It gets better.
spk_0 But the rescue, there's nothing wrong with this rescue.
spk_0 It's just funny.
spk_0 There's a chow chow because if you don't know dog types, chow,
spk_0 Chow's much bigger than a Chihuahua.
spk_0 So anyways, we won't go into those details.
spk_0 But then the rescue read the rescue.
spk_0 Great Pyrenees advocates of Texas.
spk_0 There's nothing funny about that rescue.
spk_0 It's just the fact that it's a somehow Chow Chow Chihuahua mix
spk_0 at a great Pyrenees rescue.
spk_0 Here's what I bet.
spk_0 Habs.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 I know this is fear speculation.
spk_0 This might be detailed for this podcast, Kelly, inappropriate.
spk_0 Well, I mean, so here's this cute fluffy white dog.
spk_0 And you don't know what breed it is.
spk_0 And so you think could this be a great Pyrenees?
spk_0 Maybe maybe maybe maybe the the run of all Pyrenees.
spk_0 No, I'd tell you exactly what happened.
spk_0 This is an amazing rescue group, most likely and really good rescue groups.
spk_0 Say, okay, here's kind of our mission and our calling,
spk_0 but also we're here to help animals.
spk_0 Yes.
spk_0 So I'm certain that absolutely.
spk_0 And you know, maybe if you are not in a position to rescue
spk_0 or adopt a great Pyrenees, boy, we got the dog for you.
spk_0 Boy, we got this Chow Chow Chowahua mix named Palmer
spk_0 who has the happiest smile with this tinging and out.
spk_0 And he's about 31 pounds.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 That says he's a one of a kind mixed.
spk_0 That's true.
spk_0 I believe.
spk_0 And his personality is just as special.
spk_0 He's affectionate and energetic.
spk_0 He's happiest when he's around people and other dogs.
spk_0 And so if you are looking for your next lover in your life, Palmer could be your dog.
spk_0 I would love to frame this up as like a used car sales ad where it's just like.
spk_0 If you if you've been thinking you want to get yourself a Chowahua,
spk_0 but you can't decide between that and a Chow Chow,
spk_0 you come on down to great Pyrenees rescue and we've got the dog for you.
spk_0 Right?
spk_0 Like, this is this is glorious.
spk_0 I will say like the one thing that we would ask of you, we know we know how to
spk_0 ask a lot.
spk_0 What do I school?
spk_0 It wherever you're listening first, obviously subscribe, you know, download.
spk_0 Oh, if you're watching this on YouTube, there's this feature called hype.
spk_0 You got to hype this because it's a new channel, right?
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 So you can hype it and then it helps it helps spread the word, but share this
spk_0 because we won.
spk_0 Yeah, that'd be awesome for this podcast.
spk_0 We'd really appreciate it if you know if there's a dog lover or coffee lover in your life
spk_0 or just someone you really appreciate, share this.
spk_0 But more than anything, just message them about this dog that needs to adopt it because
spk_0 that's what we think is really neat about this.
spk_0 We want to continue to get dogs adopted.
spk_0 And so share this.
spk_0 Let's get this dog adopted.
spk_0 If you want to see where Palmer is available for adoption, go to the link that we provide
spk_0 at the end of this video.
spk_0 Yep.
spk_0 And as a little teaser, when you go there, Palmer has some back to school pictures.
spk_0 That are so cute.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 So our guest, Sean Johnson and East and Andrew East.
spk_0 And by the way, I like, they are fewer.
spk_0 I mean, we all love our Olympians, right?
spk_0 But Sean is one of the most loved Olympians out there.
spk_0 I mean, I feel like she's the Olympian of my time.
spk_0 The Olympian of the Olympians.
spk_0 Like watching her, I wanted to be her.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Doing back flips and all the things.
spk_0 And I had no business even considering myself anywhere close to that.
spk_0 Doing back flips.
spk_0
spk_0 Well, and even Andrew, he, like, is really neat when I first met him.
spk_0 You know, he, he was doing football and he was an entrepreneur and like, and he just,
spk_0 his enthusiasm was, was amazing.
spk_0 And it's going to be, it's going to be fun to talk to them.
spk_0 But I want you to try and guess their coffee water.
spk_0 Now, give you a little hint.
spk_0 Well, I follow them on social media.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 So I kind of have an idea.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 But I know, I know exactly.
spk_0
spk_0
spk_0 I happen to watch the one specific video I was happening to watch.
spk_0 Andrew was making coffee for Sean.
spk_0 And so I know exactly.
spk_0 I'm assuming he would drink the same thing.
spk_0 So I know exactly what their order is going to be.
spk_0 I'd like you to guess.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 So.
spk_0 If I remember correctly.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 I'm going to say it's a double shot of espresso.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 Um, almond milk.
spk_0 And.
spk_0 I feel like you've seen this.
spk_0 I feel like you've seen it.
spk_0 Yeah, I have seen it.
spk_0 It's been a while.
spk_0 But no, but it wasn't.
spk_0 It hasn't been recently.
spk_0 So, but I, but here's where I'm going with it.
spk_0 I feel like they juzh it up.
spk_0 Juzh it up.
spk_0 You know, like, um, like, I feel like if they need some protein,
spk_0 they're maybe putting a little that for a little collagen or, um,
spk_0 you know, they're juzh in it up.
spk_0 They're, they're making the most out of it.
spk_0 But also, I feel like that's Andrew.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 But I feel like Sean is more like mom mode waking up.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Give me my coffee.
spk_0 Don't mess with me yet.
spk_0 And then, and then we can talk kind of like me.
spk_0 So.
spk_0 Does that answer your question?
spk_0 Yeah, I don't know if that's mom mode.
spk_0 I think it's just been Kelly mode in the entire time.
spk_0 I've known you.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 Well, now the excuses mom mode.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 Give me my coffee first and then talk to me.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 Well, I'm not going to tell you what it is.
spk_0 You're going to have to wait and see.
spk_0 It's a surprise.
spk_0 Um, so I'm excited.
spk_0 Yeah, I'm excited.
spk_0 They don't have their dogs with them because they are traveling.
spk_0 They're on the road.
spk_0 Yeah, which I'm very excited for them.
spk_0 But I am a little disappointed.
spk_0 I would have loved to fluffy golden.
spk_0 She is coming right on in.
spk_0 I don't you worry.
spk_0 I'm going to put up lots of pictures.
spk_0 And I'm going to have them talk about their dogs and describe in detail.
spk_0 These amazing pups.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 You want to introduce our guest?
spk_0 Well, we have Sean Johnson East and Andrew East.
spk_0 Welcome to Dogs and Coffee.
spk_0 It's so good to be here.
spk_0 Where we talk about dogs and coffee.
spk_0 Cars and.
spk_0 No, yeah.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Well, we talk about all things.
spk_0 But yes, definitely dogs and coffee.
spk_0 You can't leave without talking about at least those two things.
spk_0
spk_0 Two further things ever.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 It's good to see you guys.
spk_0 Good to see you.
spk_0 Good work.
spk_0 You talked about our dog!
spk_0 Well, this is the day to come.
spk_0
spk_0 We didn't know about the stuff we talked about with Molly.
spk_0 Talk about that.
spk_0 And I remember that was There's lots of reported comments about what
spk_0 Fine senior Abi's since lunch had been eight days gone.
spk_0
spk_0
spk_0
spk_0 Everyone's shit warmer.
spk_0
spk_0 Was it bothersome I think oh my
spk_0 Oh, yeah, she's living the best life now. She was terrified one of the most terrified dogs we ever had
spk_0 Yeah, now she travels with her mom through airports and she's like she's living the best she's a
spk_0 little poor thing as long yeah, that one was like a nine month 12 months. Yeah, I'm frame
spk_0 Wow, but yeah, that was a long time ago. That was seven six seven years ago. Yeah, yeah three kids pray all kids
spk_0 Yeah, life changes really quick with kids and dogs, don't it?
spk_0 Did you ever meet our our or yeah, did you meet him? I met Nash, but I haven't we we're gonna talk about this
spk_0 We hear there's a new addition to the family is a new
spk_0 Oh, it's Lee Oakley. What a good name to Nash and Oakley. Yeah, that isn't some Nash Mill golden retriever names
spk_0 I don't know what is very very it makes me happy it feels good
spk_0 It's like pumpkin spice lattes, you know like yes, it's amazing
spk_0 Well speaking of which do you want to get our guests a drink? Yeah, now I okay, so here's how this works okay
spk_0 We take your coffee order great and we make your coffee great the thing is we're not baristas even better
spk_0 We're gonna judge your coffee making abilities. Yes
spk_0 We want I want him to get really good at this yeah, because then I benefit in the long term
spk_0 Yeah, you can be you can be judgment until that's fine. Yeah, but I will say you know the good thing is we all drink it
spk_0 together so if it's bad we're all in this love it
spk_0 All in this together and we do have a phone a friend or a phone a barista
spk_0 So it's really bad we can phone it in and love this love it. I might just have him help now
spk_0 We have done some research on your coffee your favorite coffee order. Yes, and I have some questions
spk_0 Okay, is this something you guys came up with that developed over time is this
spk_0 This coffee order is pretty standard across any coffee shop
spk_0 Well, yeah, yes and no because we weren't we aren't going to actually be able to pull it off a hundred percent
spk_0 Okay, because in in this video you walk through how you do a double shot
spk_0 You do ice
spk_0 Cinnamon and honey and then there's just a little drop in there where you go. It's our family honey. Yeah
spk_0 Yeah, that's right. That's right. Okay, so just so you know most coffee shops don't have their own family honey farm
spk_0 Well, I've to send you well, I've to send you our family honey. Okay. We would love that we panic
spk_0 Trying to buy this honey and get it here in time. Oh, it was not gonna doubt it would have been epic
spk_0 Because he fulfills the orders from his garage. Oh my goodness. I don't think he currently has any honey
spk_0 So he would have had to have gone and harvested honey just for the one model will link the honey
spk_0 Oh, okay, then we won't link the honey if he's got to go out and harvest it the last time I accidentally linked the honey
spk_0 Yeah, I think I gave him an absolute heart attack because a couple hundred orders came in yeah
spk_0 All right, well don't look for it just yet. Yeah, okay, so you're gonna get the standard
spk_0 Honey, yeah, love the standard honey. Okay now, but that's what we know
spk_0 But you're you're welcome to switch it up to like you just see how fast we can I would like to switch it up
spk_0 Okay, okay, I also kind of want to propose a competition like if we could do a double blind taste as you make a coffee
spk_0 I make the same coffee and then we see who likes one more
spk_0 Yeah, I'm just you know, you're sighted. Yeah, I'd love I would love this. I would love to win the competition
spk_0 Oh rocket you're a rocket you're a cookie in FL champion here. I'll take it. I'll take it
spk_0 I'll win that if if we win this who's your football team of choice right now Indianapolis Colts
spk_0 Okay, it looks pretty good. We're gonna go against Colts. Okay, if I win Chiefswin you win Coltswin. Okay, and as you've noticed chiefswin
spk_0 Yeah, not when it matters most recently though unfortunately. Yeah, yeah, that's true
spk_0 But in Alvaren as you did play for the Kansas City
spk_0 I did kind of win either way. Yeah, yeah, okay
spk_0 Let's do it. But what what is the coffee gonna be?
spk_0 Well the same right we can't we could make the standard I you said pumpkin spice latte and all of a sudden my mouth
spk_0 Sorry, I have not have you had a pumpkin spice latte yet? I have not you want to you for pumpkin spice like I had several
spk_0 Well last we should just so we don't really lose we should ask the gals what they would like
spk_0 Okay, that's a good call. I am down for anything you do yeah, I'm buying also so you're our guest
spk_0 What what is what would you like to drink? Let me do pumpkin spice latte. Yes, so I do have some news
spk_0 We are
spk_0 I will do an oat milk honey
spk_0 Loss it. Is it what sentiment was said a great ice perfect. I will have the same. Okay
spk_0 Welcome to flip coffee where you can have anything you want but not if we don't have it
spk_0 Okay, come on back to the kitchen as do it. You like to start a quiz. We have a quiz
spk_0 It's gonna be both of you, but no, it's just gonna be you. I love it. I love it. Do we have an apron?
spk_0 Can we get him an apron? I don't I don't want it to turn into a situation back here
spk_0 He's got a really nice sweatshirt on and because here's the thing I make this coffee for Sean everyday
spk_0 Yeah, we've gone to many coffee shops all over the world and
spk_0 She says no coffee measures up to the coffee I make our so if you're able to make one the rivals it's yeah
spk_0 I got a lot
spk_0 Friendly competition. Okay, as is this trivia great. We got some dog trivia for you and
spk_0 Which dog breed is known for its incredible diving and swimming abilities and a sentence called the water rescue dog
spk_0 And I'll give you the multiple choice. Okay, and let's if you just know it. I think I know it. Go ahead. Is it a new Finland?
spk_0 You're correct
spk_0 Okay, the
spk_0 Really neat thing is that most people don't get these questions right because not too many people like no
spk_0 A dog trivia like it's a dog person, but then you like think about these things like I don't know
spk_0 So you're off to a good start great what dog is Tennessee's top dog breed?
spk_0 Is it a a bloodhound?
spk_0 B a blue tick Kuhnhound
spk_0 C a German short-haired pointer or D a Tennessee blue mountain collie
spk_0 It's a little like call the Tennessee blue mountain call. Yes
spk_0 That's that's the D choice if you're if you're listening to this by the way to you should see Sean's face
spk_0 She's like
spk_0 That like it's like I smell burn cookies face. I was gonna say a blue tick Kuhnhound until he said a call is literally named a Tennessee
spk_0 Callie
spk_0 Now I just want you to know I built this quiz. Okay. Okay. I'm gonna go with Tennessee
spk_0 Three y'all I made it up that was made up
spk_0 Yeah, you're right. I know cuz well it's like for two. It's a hunting capital. Yeah, yeah
spk_0 I'm doing a trick one to try to trick you
spk_0 There's a cally named a Tennessee. Oh, I'm politely made up. I was gonna say I was like
spk_0 I was if I was gonna pick the wrong one what would it be and I just yeah, I
spk_0 That was I'm sorry. That was me. It's funny to you cuz I am obsessive with dogs
spk_0 And I feel like I used to read encyclopedias of dogs really yeah, and I was like I've never heard of a Tennessee
spk_0 All like why yeah, especially if you live in Tennessee. Okay. What is the top dog breed for Nashville?
spk_0 I probably go there a trailer that is option a okay b is a chihuahua c a blue tick cunhound or d a labrador retriever. Oh
spk_0 uh
spk_0 I would so go there a trailer it says here that it's d the labradored retriever. Okay. I'll say I fail
spk_0 both retrievers. I feel like
spk_0 Can't go wrong with either dog I think isn't that probably the most common dog them?
spk_0 Probably like a labrador. You know, I think it depends on certain areas and also
spk_0 You know for us like we're in the shelter. Yeah, so you see some lallas
spk_0 But we see a lot of huskies German shepherds like mountain laws, you know things like that
spk_0 Then I'll leave the homin and california to see that yes. Yeah. Yeah. I think it exists. Everyone has those said in Nashville
spk_0 Yeah. Oh really? Oh, yeah. Okay, cuz it's been a couple years since we've been to Nashville like shelters and stuff
spk_0 So you need to like connect with people in Nashville. Yeah, all of those sheltered are if those any of those grids
spk_0 People like goes searching for them and that's okay. Yeah. Well, that's why transfer programs are so helpful
spk_0 Yeah, because everyone wants the dogs my parents have a malinois. Oh, do they live close to you? Yeah, I'll fuck yeah
spk_0 They're on like a big acreage. No, so yeah, that's nice. I've been close by with kids and dogs
spk_0 Are they the ones who are watching the dogs and kids right now? Yes. Thanks. They had
spk_0 Haha
spk_0 Five donts oh my goodness a cat and then three three kid. Okay, so what kind of dogs do they have they have
spk_0 um
spk_0 Kind of like a mutt mix that they got out of shelter. It's like a loss of opsa of multi
spk_0 Okay, little thing. Yeah
spk_0 um
spk_0 They have a German shepherd malinois mix okay, and then a rescue golden that they got with mine. Oh yeah
spk_0 Did you guys get them at the same time when they litter mates or they think they were litter mates? Okay
spk_0 Polar opposite colors. Okay, but they were found together in Alabama
spk_0 um, and they didn't want them going to the same home for like oh
spk_0 They didn't get along personality. Yeah, they still play every single day and they love it
spk_0 But so my mom took one and I took the other fine. Oh, that makes it so much fun. Yeah
spk_0 Okay, here's your last trivia question
spk_0 Which US state made the rescue dog. It's official state dog in 2023
spk_0 a Georgia be Delaware D New Jersey or D Connecticut
spk_0 The rescue dog yes, well, it was like the rescue dog. It's official state dog like a like a rescue shelter dog
spk_0 Uh, I think it's more like it's like they
spk_0 Proplying that rescue dogs are their state dog. That's it. Okay, we're a piece of for Georgia. Yeah, Delaware
spk_0 New Jersey or Connecticut
spk_0 Georgia
spk_0 Correct answers Delaware. Okay
spk_0 Uh, the golden retriever was Delaware state dog from 2016 until 2023 and then their governor enacted a new bill
spk_0 Designating the rescue dog as their official state dog. Yeah, you guys ready
spk_0 Are we yeah
spk_0 So I know which ones with yeah, are we blind tasting this? Yeah, yep. We're blind tasting. Okay that
spk_0 Is your husband's okay, so not blind tasting
spk_0 I forgot what the whole blind thing means do you know what the like best swimming dog is
spk_0 And it's used for rescue
spk_0 It's usually the Coast Guard dog a lap. I feel like it's just like a black line
spk_0 But no, it's a new timeline because they have like webtoes
spk_0 They specifically have webtoes literally like a new millennial jump out of a helicopter with the Coast Guard and go rescue people on the ocean. It's true
spk_0 Dogs are amazing. John knows her dog staff. Yeah, well, did I hear right? You said you used to study dog encyclopedia? I did
spk_0 That's awesome. I will never forget in fourth grade my teacher had
spk_0 Every encyclopedia under the like under the sun. Yeah for every category and then just like your basic encyclopedia
spk_0 And I would just go through them and find all the dogs and I would read up on every dog breed incredible
spk_0 It's all I wanted to do
spk_0 Well, so in fourth grade are you going to like a traditional classroom school because I feel like at that point with your schedule with
spk_0 Training or no, not yet. I went to traditional school my whole
spk_0 Oh, oh, all the way through graduation. Wow, so I was in public school the whole time. We'll get into that
spk_0 Yeah, okay, okay, we gotta do a taste test. Okay, let's do a taste test. All right, so number one you drink you're both drinking number one
spk_0 And I set it up so that the first one you're drinking is one person's the second one is the other person's
spk_0 Whoo
spk_0 There's a chance they're similar in taste, but I mean, it's the same thing. It's just it's just your barista of choice
spk_0 You know go ahead, John. What do you think I'm gonna choose this one number two? Yeah, okay Kelly. Oh, please
spk_0 I
spk_0 Don't know there. I need like a palette cleanse because now I feel like they're starting to taste pretty similar
spk_0 It's a good Lord
spk_0 I feel like the first one has a little bit sweeter has a little bit more flavor
spk_0 Honestly, this point they're both good. Yeah, I'll differentiate. Okay, but you got to pick number one or number two
spk_0 Okay, I haven't been go number two
spk_0 Number two
spk_0 Oh
spk_0 The jibby
spk_0 Well, sorry
spk_0 What's funny is I move I sit them around so I could just be saying that and they could be the same thing
spk_0 But I feel like two is better. I agree. You know what I did you want to know my trick? You know
spk_0 Yeah, my trick is I just put more honey in it. I would say it number two has more honey. Yeah, I knew that would be the only
spk_0 I knew I was gonna potentially sacrifice it because if if you were like oh, that's too sweet. Yeah
spk_0 But I just figured most people like sweeter
spk_0 So you rig the game I rig the game. Yeah, first I get it
spk_0 Yes, it that sweetness without being like overpowering which is nice
spk_0 And I watched you go first and you only you did two pumps
spk_0 But if they were pretty soft pumps and I crank on it you watch the film dude and then you had your opponent ready to
spk_0 You know what you're doing. Yeah, if you're ready to play if there's one thing we do here at dogs and coffee
spk_0 It's we make we make folks feel welcome by beating Domini
spk_0 It's a good coffee. Thank you for the coffee. Yeah, go far. Yeah, thank you. Yeah, thanks for being here guys. Thanks for having us
spk_0 Okay, so we got to know there's so there's so many things we want to know
spk_0 Um, I know you have a lot of fans out there and we're gonna we're gonna talk about everything you guys are doing and
spk_0 Rightfully so you have a lot of people that love you and everything you guys are doing
spk_0 But we definitely got to talk about your dogs because Nash so tell us about
spk_0 Nash now it's been with Nash has been with you guys now for a long time, right?
spk_0 Ashes
spk_0 He'll turn 13 in July so he just turned 12
spk_0 Um, we got him
spk_0 October 2013
spk_0 and
spk_0 He I found him online don't know from where it was from a breeder
spk_0 But it was it was my attempt at like
spk_0 Finding a dog that reminded me of my childhood dog which was a dark red golden
spk_0 Um, it just brought me every comfort in life and my childhood dog's name was dude
spk_0 Like literally dude all
spk_0 But he was the greatest and
spk_0 Finding red goldens are hard very hard. Yeah, and I remember I found this lady and she
spk_0 She loved dogs more than anybody I've ever met in my life
spk_0 And it was like heard her passion just like these these beautiful goldens and she drove from Florida
spk_0 And brought him and his
spk_0 brother
spk_0 Um
spk_0 All the way up to Nashville and met me and she brought the brother to like bring the baby come for and it was just it was so sweet
spk_0 And she stayed in touch but Nash has been with us
spk_0 For a long time he's been in Nashville. We went into LA. He traveled with us everywhere
spk_0 And he's still with us his first couple nights with us. I was a junior of Vanderbilt
spk_0 And so he stayed in our dorm room. Yeah
spk_0 We had his mother. Oh, he got so much attention from all the roommates
spk_0 But I grew up with a golden retriever named Dodger white and he was red
spk_0 He was super red you had a dark haired one dude. Yeah, but then Tucker was a little lighter here
spk_0 That girl was a little lighter like this color like
spk_0 Honey coffee color. Okay. Yeah, so he wasn't really white, but he was
spk_0 Golden yeah, but we just grew up with that golden retriever breed and we love them so much
spk_0 It's like they can get excited when you want them to and then they're chill and when you want them to like people
spk_0 Yeah, better people those. Yeah, yeah, they really are perfect. Yeah, you don't get you have any more perfect ventigold
spk_0 I would love a red golden for sure. In fact, I told the shelter that I work at most often
spk_0 If a golden for red comes through here you call me right away
spk_0 And they did and I was like okay, all right
spk_0 I don't know let me come down and look and then one of the staff members had already dealt with us are now
spk_0 Yeah, so it's hard gave it but but
spk_0 There are a surprising amount of golden retrievers in shelters. Yes, like I'd say I probably see one to two golden retrievers
spk_0 In shelters a week on average. Yeah
spk_0 Because I think they're just so many dogs out there and people get golden retrievers and then you know and they're
spk_0 I know I say they're perfect, but they still have energy especially when they're young and like and they they
spk_0 Rear even so they chew and they and they do all the things that if someone's not prepared
spk_0 They'll just and they're not training and exercising
spk_0 They'll just bring the dog of the shelter and that's how we found our second. Okay number
spk_0 Nash was getting older
spk_0 And he's still doing phenomenally well, but we're like we started talking about a puppy
spk_0 Just like helping with his energy and giving him a companion. Yeah
spk_0 And a friend of ours runs the rescue shelter in Nashville
spk_0 And I've talked for so many times about I would rescue any dog that comes in I tried
spk_0 To rescue a massive
spk_0 About a year ago
spk_0 Yeah, she was gorgeous
spk_0 You almost adopted that dog you've been talking to me about it. Yeah, was it as little puppy or is it already?
spk_0 No, it was like 200 and some pounds. That's a huge huge
spk_0 Um, she was beautiful. She actually went to one of our friends and said but
spk_0 I told her I was like okay the way that it would like there would be no
spk_0 Conversations of any kind is if you have a golden that shows up at your shelter like a puppy just call me
spk_0 What take that down and we are the first person that they called and I think within an hour
spk_0 I was at the shelter, but they had to
spk_0 Huh and they they think they were litter mates
spk_0 One was a red okay, and one was he's very light. He's like white. Okay, and
spk_0 The red was super calm and chill and the white was crazy
spk_0 And I she's like okay, which one do you want?
spk_0 And I was like what do you mean like I can't choose I get yeah, yeah, don't make me do that
spk_0 Yeah, and so I took both and my mom took the red oh go good um oh wait, so you got we got the crazy one
spk_0 But the funny the funniest part about it is like once they
spk_0 Like
spk_0 Came home and we're in our home. Yeah
spk_0 The red turned crazy
spk_0 And the white calm down
spk_0 Then my mom has the say go on now that's fine, but his name is Oakley and he is
spk_0 Incredible he is absolutely in love with our children
spk_0 And he is like our children's dog
spk_0 Nash is very much so our baby, but
spk_0 He is our kids dog and it's really fun to watch and if fun to see them growing up with a dog like getting that experience
spk_0 The best I think our youngest is about a year and a half and one of his first words was Oakley
spk_0 He says okey okey
spk_0 And they all giggle with it with Oakley
spk_0 Nash is more of like the grumpy old guy in the order, but with Oakley
spk_0 Yeah, yeah with Oakley they're they have so much fun. They're playing all day and it really is
spk_0 It like fills in the blank space in a really beautiful way where you're sitting at the dinner table or maybe just after dinner and
spk_0 It's just quiet around the house and then all of a sudden, you know, they want to start annoying the dog
spk_0 And it's like these it's amazing moments that otherwise wouldn't have happened if Oakley wasn't there. So
spk_0 Okay, you're one and a half year old bear. Yeah
spk_0 Uh
spk_0 Does he ever like you know pull Oakley's tail or do something where you're you have to step in or or is he pretty good?
spk_0 Yes and no our kids are very good with dogs
spk_0 I think because of Nash Nash was so
spk_0 I mean old and gentle and whatever we were able to teach all three of our kids really good dog etiquette
spk_0 from day one and
spk_0 Nash is just the most perfect gentle giant to wear
spk_0 Even in that teaching process
spk_0 Our kids would like try to pull his tail and he's very good about like a warning and it gives us that space to be like
spk_0 Separate and leave yeah
spk_0 Um so by the time Oakley came around
spk_0 They're they're very good with him. Yeah, I have caught our four-year-old trying to ride him before I'm like no
spk_0 We're looking sir. Yeah, yeah
spk_0 We took the kids to the rodeo and they saw
spk_0 Oh that experience is like so now our four-year-old that's all he wants to do
spk_0 It's a little concerning. It is funny though because our kids love dogs so much
spk_0 Where we're still in that phase of like I don't want to instill fear in them
spk_0 But if they're at a park or something our kids will go running up to dogs as if it's their own and I'm like no
spk_0 We can't do that. Yeah, I can't do that. I didn't tell you so we had a flag football game for our four-year-old
spk_0 They're just getting into sports which is so much fun. Yeah, but our four-year-old loves football
spk_0 It's all he talks about all day at the game most recently
spk_0 He it was in the middle of the game middle of play
spk_0 He goes over to the sideline and just starts petting this dog that was there
spk_0 Because because he sees his mom do that all the time anytime
spk_0 We're out in public shadow just like go crazy over dogs. I'll say hi to a dog before a person
spk_0 Yeah, that's natural. Yeah, or you remember the dog's name and not the person's name. Yeah, yeah
spk_0 We set a rule we went really aggressive and we just don't let our kids pet other dogs
spk_0 Yeah, I don't I don't think that's the rule for everyone. It's for us specifically
spk_0 Because you know people see us and they go to the dog people and here's my dog and
spk_0 And dogs and kids they don't always mix and it was just tough
spk_0 So we just kind of set that rule and we we do break it sometimes. Yeah, well, I think if like we meet the dog and assess it
spk_0 Yeah, okay. Yeah, this is a harmless dog and well-mannered and will we do do well with kids and we're like okay
spk_0 Go ahead, but they are unpredictable and so hard with our kids because like our dogs love kisses
spk_0 And they love lying kids in their face and like they're fine with that
spk_0 But I'm like you can't you can't go running up to a dog and be like kiss me. I'm like you're going to get bit
spk_0 Yeah, yeah, 100% yeah, we've seen it. We've seen it too many times
spk_0 That we have a giant blind conicorso and so yeah, it's really fun
spk_0 It's a lot of hard work though because he's special needs and like wait
spk_0 We thought it was gonna be really challenging and he's been
spk_0 Just the perfect dog with the kids like yeah his anxiety is really high and when he's around them
spk_0 He's really calm for most of the time unless yeah, what I'm trying to ride him or
spk_0 We get that too. Oh Kobe's a dinosaur. No, he's not
spk_0 He enough. How long have you had Kobe? We've had him now
spk_0 For five years he wasn't supposed to make it
spk_0 He uh had only half his heart works
spk_0 We took him six months in to have this emergency heart surgery. We're fostering him for a rescue
spk_0 He lived and then we're like we really can't adopt him because he's only gonna live to like one
spk_0 Yeah, somehow he's still alive and we thank every day
spk_0 But one day he just won't his heart will just stop yeah because he's getting too big for his heart
spk_0 Yeah, every year he gets bigger and bigger
spk_0 If he's small
spk_0 If he's small for his breed, right like he's about a hundred pounds
spk_0 But for the first couple years of his life he was only about 70
spk_0 They should be like a buck 20 buck 40. Yeah, yeah, but because of his heart is always
spk_0 Beating like he's just burning more energy and had that stress and then the medication like he wouldn't eat
spk_0 Uh, but now he's kind of leveled out and we're like we don't know how you're still here
spk_0 But we're enjoying every day go for us though. Yeah, he's a sweet boy
spk_0 There's something amazing about a dog
spk_0 They're almost like living timecapsules
spk_0 So yeah, when I look at Nash, I just almost have these live flashbacks of all of the memories like you tell
spk_0 The story of when you first adopted him the picture that you sent me of first you two first meeting
spk_0 And then him at the lake that first summer it's like and all just like is right there in front of you
spk_0 And it's so beautiful. I love I love dogs
spk_0 You know time capsules is a great way to say it you're right because it's like
spk_0 For me and and largely Kelly flip my boxer
spk_0 He passed but he was that
spk_0 Are kind of my coming of age and like our relationship for a day and um, yeah
spk_0 I remember him. Yeah, he was sweet. He was a really good one
spk_0 And then you're right and then now you've got now you've got Oakley with your kids
spk_0 And not only will they remember that but you'll remember that time when you look back at pictures and um
spk_0 Or when your iPhone serves you have like memories and you're like oh, yeah
spk_0 But you know what the guess we really want on here now that you guys aren't great um
spk_0 There's a scientist. It's come out with a longevity pill for dogs that will that I
spk_0 I hear that I'll they'll live like 20% longer or something
spk_0 Which you know you think yeah, okay, Nash like let's say Nash lives to 15 and now you could have until 16 or 17
spk_0 I'd like that any day. Yeah, yeah, and quite and it's supposed to be quality of life too
spk_0 Not just like yeah keeping them you live even though they're like should be on life support
spk_0 So I'm just glad to be here with you all in person. Yeah, it's really I know I know we were sitting here thinking like
spk_0 Do we call them? Do we have do we still have their number like yeah?
spk_0 It you know, I want to apologize first hand to any of my friends or family where I'm like
spk_0 Oh, you have kids. You're so busy like where did you go? You disappeared for years
spk_0 Yeah, and then when you have them you go oh, I get it. Yeah, yeah
spk_0 I understand why you haven't been around for the last decade. Yeah, because you're busy
spk_0 You just invest so much time that you don't even realize
spk_0 Like you feel so intentional with your kids that you don't even realize you're like not being intentional with friends because
spk_0 Your time is being spent well
spk_0 Yeah, I feel the exact same way, but then I realize all my other friends are doing the same thing with their own kids
spk_0 So you kind of go okay, we're all in this phase. Yeah, all in the same boat like we're all just trying to figure it out. Yeah
spk_0 I feel like there's certain things in life that are worth being
spk_0 Unapologetically unavailable for you know, it's like hey, I'm just gonna
spk_0 This is this is a beautiful phase of life that deserves all of my attention and
spk_0 That comes at a sacrifice, you know
spk_0 Yeah, in the best I think the best friends and family are the ones that understand that and gaps of time
spk_0 Don't really matter you come back together and it's okay. You know, you know even in those moments where like
spk_0 Whether I've been a bad friend or someone else has been
spk_0 But then they're they're trying again and they're coming back like having that ability to forgive that friend for that gap of time
spk_0 I think you've strengthened it strengthens that friendship if you allow it so
spk_0 Family is
spk_0 Kind of at the core of what you guys do and in a lot of your businesses, right? You're family made
spk_0 And a lot of the products that you guys are which great name by the way family made. How'd you get that domain? That's amazing
spk_0 We wanted to do
spk_0 Family what's the TV show? There's a tears matters family matters. Oh, that was taken. So you had a pivot. Yeah
spk_0 But that's funny, but family made what yeah, that's great. Good name. Yeah, so how how did you guys decide?
spk_0 Because obviously I think for us two family is like most important
spk_0 To then go we're gonna make this our main business and decide like that's what we put out into the world
spk_0 I think we did it just because that's what we love documenting and kind of like you said, it's the most important thing for us
spk_0 So instead of taking ourselves away from our family to do something different our biggest passion was just
spk_0 Promoting family and we try not to do it in the sense of like exploiting our own
spk_0 It's all like parenting and
spk_0 You know just happy marriage
spk_0 but
spk_0 At the core of it is families first and family is kind of our foundation in life. So
spk_0 Why not showcase that? Yeah
spk_0 No, I think you hit it spot on because you definitely see people online where you feel like you're like
spk_0 Are you exploiting your kids like I don't know like does something about this doesn't feel quite right
spk_0 But no you guys do it really tastefully and you
spk_0 And your kids are just so dang cute. Yeah, yeah, that's it helps
spk_0 We've always said at the end of the day that like our posting strategy is like we're not here to show our kids
spk_0 We're here to show that we're parents right and if our kids happen to be in it
spk_0 They just happen to be in it, but it's not about them. Yes. It's about us. Let's go ahead and do it
spk_0 It takes a lot of bravery and courage like the reason
spk_0 Kill I had that question we put that down is it takes a lot of bravery and courage and you see a lot of people not sharing a lot of the
spk_0 I think depth and compassion emotions that you guys go through on your podcast
spk_0 Which is which is really encouraging because so many people just gloss over that and hide it and put on this facade of or our marriage is great
spk_0 everything's great our family is great and
spk_0 And you know as we know those house of cards kind of fall quickly and if other people if other couples and families see other families going through those struggles
spk_0 I think they can relate and go okay. I'm doing okay like we can get through this. Oh, we have similar challenges
spk_0 Not everyone's perfect out there not every couple's perfect out there
spk_0 It opens up the conversation to at least be had when you
spk_0 See someone that you look up to or that you know or recognize
spk_0 Having the same struggles or issues are going. Oh other people are experiencing this like I'm not weird or alone in this
spk_0 Yeah, so we commend you for your courage in doing that, but we have a question. Okay. Does it create challenges?
spk_0 Yeah, I mean there's complexities to sharing the life online. Yeah, the
spk_0 Just just your guys' relationship how open you are and talking about yeah, we never like we shouldn't have shared that
spk_0 Oh, I think a lot of times when your parents and young kids you don't get on a normal basis
spk_0 You know, I'm saying so it is it is time for Sean and I to be together and it's wonderful. I will say though we have a lot of like
spk_0 um
spk_0 Though it looks like we're so open and we're so vulnerable and we're showcasing everything we have a lot of
spk_0 boundaries in place to like protect our marriage over everything else
spk_0 Because if our marriage is protected then we're better parents and our better family
spk_0 And there have been times where we'll sit down to film podcasts and it'll end in tears or like an argument or it's just like too fresh
spk_0 Yeah, to wear that won't ever make air
spk_0 Yeah, and we have a rule that nothing can be shared unless it's um
spk_0 Worked through already, so it has to be something that's happened in the past and it's not happening right now um
spk_0 And then we always like our editor that we work with is phenomenal. She knows this really well
spk_0 They're in it with us and she's very good at watching something back and being like, you know
spk_0 I don't think you guys were like
spk_0 perfectly in the right headspace or like you're a little testy and like we like we we really try to not exploit our marriage
spk_0 But showcase the vulnerabilities of it in a beautiful way instead of a
spk_0 You know, I can't believe he did this so I can't believe she did this and this is what happened
spk_0 No, I think you definitely can see and feel that you guys are on a tee
spk_0 Yeah, and it's refreshing
spk_0 So I feel like it's worth saying though we fully realize we don't have a figured out we are probably doing many things wrong
spk_0 Yeah, but I have come to love
spk_0 uh
spk_0 Our role on the internet and the community that has been built as a result
spk_0 And you know when I look at what's online there's all the polarizing promiscuous
spk_0 Crazy content out there and then you have a certain
spk_0 Part of the human psyche will always be attracted to and desiring of
spk_0 meaningful relationships and family reflects that and so as imperfect as it may be
spk_0 I think it's worth it. It feels like a natural extension of
spk_0 You know, we've been doing YouTube for 10 years. That's how we initially met yeah
spk_0 And we've all along the way documented the phase of life that shot on Andrew have been in and this is the current phase
spk_0 We're in is parenting young kids
spk_0 It's also just like something that I grew up seeing from my dad and in my grandpa
spk_0 They would have filmed everything and then they'd put in a cassette tape in the closet and never see it again
spk_0 So YouTube has been like a really fun
spk_0 addition to hey, we're gonna still do the filming that has been going on for generations now
spk_0 Which is has it has a different place to live?
spk_0 But it's yeah, I love it
spk_0 Do you guys think that
spk_0 Your backgrounds have really helped shape that your family or do you think no none of that
spk_0 Like it's there's a whole new ballgame
spk_0 So obviously you lead athlete in a fell you
spk_0 Olympian like do you think that that has carried over into all of this or do you think none of that mattered?
spk_0 You feel like you're you're in it again learning everything all all over again
spk_0 Both okay, okay, so some elements of both it's all brand new and we have no idea what we're doing with parenting
spk_0 And it's absolutely terrifying every day and right when you start to feel like you're getting the hang of it
spk_0 Then they mature a little bit and they change and then they need all they have all new needs
spk_0 So it's like that is the new part that we are constantly trying to work towards
spk_0 I think what our athletics taught us is like that constant grind of working for something
spk_0 But it also taught us on like a
spk_0 Superficial and like materialism side of we've gotten to stand on top of podium
spk_0 So we know it's not everything
spk_0 And our family is way more fulfilling than an Olympic medal ever was
spk_0 And so being able to translate that and now teach that to our kids and encourage them in sports and encourage them in whatever
spk_0 But also teach them that their value is immensely greater with
spk_0 You know
spk_0 Absolutely nothing like it's they don't need something to add value to them
spk_0 I think it's been a lesson we've learned because of our
spk_0 past and our success
spk_0 Yeah, do your kids know how athletic you are like do you think they have an idea?
spk_0 Hmm
spk_0 Or no
spk_0 Yeah, not yet one day they will our daughter has started asking interesting questions
spk_0 We're like we'll get stopped for a picture and she's like, but why didn't they ask for a picture of me? I like well
spk_0 You know, yeah, getting to a point where they're starting to ask more questions
spk_0 They watch some of your videos of back in the day where you competed maybe a couple
spk_0 Yeah, like we'll turn on YouTube
spk_0 Yeah, we would love watching science experiments or whatever on YouTube and then
spk_0 Sean's routine will pop up. She's like, that's mommy
spk_0 So they kind of like it's it's kind of get it they kind of see it
spk_0 But it brings me so much joy. This is hilarious
spk_0 Our daughter likes doing cartwheels and flips and all the stuff and she prefers me to teach your culture over Sean
spk_0 She's like, no mommy. I went daddy daddy to have the eggs
spk_0 It only you knew yeah, did I boy underqualified but anyway, that's pretty funny
spk_0 Her whole family is excited about you being on this podcast like it was this was
spk_0 I also show you but she was like in that zone her whole family within that zone
spk_0 Yeah, I mean, well, even just back to when you came guys came over
spk_0 Yeah, and that one time to film like immediately after texted my brother and I was like
spk_0 I never gonna believe who I just
spk_0 Bangerly cuz like being my brother is like watched you watch nausea like we would pretend we were gymnasts at like jumping off our couches
spk_0 You know everyone who watches the Olympics thinks they could do that and know they can't so
spk_0 Yeah, it's just amazing to see to you know, know you then yeah, and then to now know you now and kind of the evolution
spk_0 You made from athlete to parent and adults and pivoting to like entrepreneur
spk_0 So what would you say outside of parenting? You're most excited about and all the ventures that you do it because you have your hands
spk_0 And a lot like you guys are busy. Yeah, you guys are entrepreneurs, and it's true a sense
spk_0 Thank you. Thank you. What are you most excited about outside of our kiddos? Yeah, I don't know
spk_0 I think I would say one thing that really excites me. It's very new to me. It's more your domain
spk_0 But we've kind of gone down this rabbit hole of investing in women's sports. That's right. We're brought into angel city FC
spk_0 um
spk_0 women's volleyball
spk_0 W and B a awesome, and it's really cool. I think
spk_0 Coming from a female sport and like how now having a daughter as one thing that we're doing that I
spk_0 I get really excited about
spk_0 It's really cool to see women's sports. Haven't yeah a big moment and
spk_0 So our daughter is also pretty good so far at t-ball and where I'm like, oh she could do it and because like
spk_0 Yeah, but there's no real path pass softball like where do you go?
spk_0 So things like this are really encouraging because yeah when you look at our daughter and you go
spk_0 She's really good at that and talented at that and we don't want to have a dead in sort of situation
spk_0 But I think the answer is not that. It's how do you help pave the roads beyond that so that she can continue?
spk_0 Yeah, yeah one of my favorite things we got to go to a volleyball match and
spk_0 It was completely sold out and it was like fathers and daughters sitting in the audience
spk_0 And you saw all these little girls one the dads were like really into the match and really into the game
spk_0 But then you saw all these girls saying like I want to be her and
spk_0 it was it's really
spk_0 Cool to see especially with an volleyball. There's so many paths for these girls to take now
spk_0 Right have a career some of them were moms who were playing some of them were fresh out of college so we're at a high school
spk_0 I mean it was a whole new
spk_0 trajectory of like
spk_0 Career options that all these little girls were witnessing which is really special to see
spk_0 But it's also pretty exciting time in sports where I think
spk_0 The softball path might change you look at what the ante bananas have done
spk_0 Yeah, it's trapped and even the unrivaled new basketball league that started yeah, there's a lot of iterations
spk_0 I think that the internet has unlocked
spk_0 And yeah, the real name in the world and live sports is like the last remaining
spk_0 Use of the TV and the A cable right like live TV. You can't AI that right right
spk_0 Like that guy so I don't know I think I think it'll change and I think it'll change in a positive way
spk_0 I think I think that's right
spk_0 Well, and even how you were saying now the NCAA changed laws where they can like make money
spk_0 And so you have these athletes who probably know they're not going to make it beyond that
spk_0 And so they spend their college years making as much money as they can and doing sports knowing that like then they're gonna have to
spk_0 Like live off of that afterwards because they're not going further in their that profession of their sport
spk_0 So it's interesting to see now kind of
spk_0 I mean you probably can shed more light on it how different sports are
spk_0 It compared to when you you were doing it right. It's wildly different
spk_0 I mean part of me things that some wild west where I
spk_0 Mean it's it's all new untruthed territory where I think people we still have a generation
spk_0 To go before I think they figured out
spk_0 Um how to do like an IO properly and yeah, I
spk_0 I read you redo college sports, but I think that's right and I didn't know I dug I went down a rabbit hole before you got here
spk_0 About almost kind of how mistreated Olympic athletes are and what and what led me to that is your foundation that you
spk_0 Guys started it is really awesome like when you you know so many times we all go well
spk_0 I don't know where to help or like what would I do or how would I do this?
spk_0 Can you tell us a little bit about it because it's so specific but so
spk_0 Once you hear it you go, oh that makes a lot of sense. I never would have even known tell us about the foundation
spk_0 Are you gonna drink your coffee by the way
spk_0 I'm gonna show you on a spot
spk_0 Yeah, I'm using it to stay cool because it's a hot day today
spk_0 We started a foundation called moment makers where we kind of do a bunch of stuff with it
spk_0 We cover a lot of different avenues, but one avenue that we covered this past
spk_0 Summer Olympics in Paris was a lot of Olympic athletes really don't make any money at all
spk_0 If anything it costs way more than they'll ever make just to like fulfill you know the the obligations to get to the Olympics
spk_0 A lot of athletes are covering their own flights just to travel to the Olympic Games and their housing
spk_0 Um and on top of that a lot of Olympic athletes are actually parents
spk_0 And for us I had the thought one day. I was like
spk_0 I can't imagine having competed at the Olympics with my kids
spk_0 And had to have been worrying about how are they gonna get there?
spk_0 Where are they gonna stay? How expensive that is right some of these athletes would have to dish out 50 grand
spk_0 Just to get their kids there with a nanny and um, you know to take care of them
spk_0 And we we just said with our foundation that if there was any parent competing that we would um cover the expenses of their family
spk_0 That's so cool. I think
spk_0 Especially when they're representing the country and you know, we're sitting there watching the entertainment on TV
spk_0 The least we can do is help support their their family to get there
spk_0 Yeah, that's pretty amazing and it is amazing
spk_0 Especially like now that we're parents and you know how difficult it is to find good child care
spk_0 Yes, you know, which is which is why we were late today because
spk_0 Yeah
spk_0 When it was actually the historic at the Paris Games it was the very first time Alison Felix actually did it she worked with I think it was
spk_0 Pampers and
spk_0 For the very first time in history she had child care available in the Olympic Village
spk_0 Wow, which had never been thought of or even offered before in history
spk_0 so
spk_0 people who
spk_0 Historically didn't go to the Olympics because they couldn't figure out like their breastfeeding or whatever the issue was that they couldn't go to the Olympics
spk_0 So it was now taking care of and their kids could be there with them
spk_0 That's amazing that isn't really that is really amazing you guys are amazing
spk_0 We I feel like we are constantly one step behind you guys the since day one where I wasn't an Olympic athlete
spk_0 I the chiefs didn't take me
spk_0 Um, but I did win the coffee competition. That's come you but listen
spk_0 It continues because not only are you guys have you done all of this but recently you guys are now
spk_0 Special forces world's toughest test season four
spk_0 Yeah, tell us a little bit about that power couple
spk_0 It was a wild experience. So there's a show on Fox called special forces world. Oh, I've seen it. It's great
spk_0 Yeah, yeah, we had a couple of friends do it. We turn it on we're a Dirtle and junkies
spk_0 It's people jumping from a boat to a helicopter repelling down 400 foot cliffs. We're like that looks awesome
spk_0 Yeah, and Sean got invited to do it
spk_0 For the last couple seasons, but we're having baby right you know, it just did it. He is it then it didn't know your detail
spk_0 She couldn't figure out who she wanted to bring with her
spk_0 So they yeah, then they invited both of us and we looked at the schedule and we were like all right
spk_0 Let's just go and do they have
spk_0 We talked to the pediatrician and all these doctors about is it okay if we leave our kids for this duration
spk_0 That's right. I mean how long was it? It's like thought if you make it to the ends about two weeks. Oh, yeah
spk_0 That's hard. Yeah, no contact
spk_0 Really at all. Oh, that's really hard. So we talked like I literally went to a sport
spk_0 No, a child's like hiatress office and I thought they're for an hour and I was like I need you to tell me straight up
spk_0 And she's a friend of ours. Yeah, straight up. What are the repercussions of this?
spk_0 Yeah, five year old a four year old a one year old
spk_0 And she was just giggling to and she's like absolutely nothing
spk_0 Yeah, and I was like, that's not what I wanted to hear
spk_0 Yeah, yeah, yeah
spk_0 But we were talking to our friends who had done it before and every one of them said
spk_0 It's way harder in person than what you see on TV like ah whatever you guys are you're you're like older than we are
spk_0 I'm sure that's hard or you're just being dramatic. You're not training as much as that
spk_0 You're more afraid of heights are like yeah, what did you prepare and train or did you just go and wing it and be like
spk_0 Good enough they give you a couple weeks. Oh, they do give you a week. Oh, but that's not it. That's not yeah
spk_0 That's not fully enough to like change the
spk_0 So we were able to prepare and by the way when I look at yeah, I made it decently far in my sport
spk_0 You know Sean made it to the farthest in her sport world champion. Yeah, and when I think about
spk_0 What was the difference between her and I it the insane intensity and discipline?
spk_0 Okay, I saw for the preparation of the show. Yeah, I was like. Oh, yeah, obviously now you never had anything close to what that was
spk_0 But I mean she studies dog encyclopedias
spk_0 I get obsessed in pretty quickly. Yeah, it's honestly pretty cool to see and I just never seen that side of her because I did I ever saw her gymnastics career at all
spk_0 um anyway, we got a maraco for this show and
spk_0 It's 120 degrees during the Saharan Desert. We were thinking realy TV. They're gonna put us in the nice
spk_0 Hope you hell in trailer worst case
spk_0 Bucket device it pulled down in no 247 insanity for
spk_0 The your your entirety on the show. I mean the toilets were plywood over a you just like a metal bucket
spk_0 Was this because they they were doing this to mentally get to you or TV budgets have come down so low
spk_0 So the premise of the show and we had a lot of people recharge about something like what is it scripted like how much whatever
spk_0 It is buds training so like it's basic underwater
spk_0 Navy sealed training. Okay, that just happens to be filmed wow, okay, so there's no
spk_0 On time off time cameras on cameras off
spk_0 We're done for today like you are going through a course put on by Navy sales Raycon Marines and the sas
spk_0 It's the real like they're the ones who design it
spk_0 And they put you through a 10 day course and it's however long you can go before you tap out
spk_0 and
spk_0 So there's no elimination. It's just how long can you last?
spk_0 So it's more of a mental game with yourself not necessarily competing with others. No
spk_0 No, because technically every single person could finish okay
spk_0 Yeah, but you can't tell us the rest you almost wanted to tell us right there. We almost had them
spk_0 I was a two two people finished this season
spk_0 That's pretty cool. Wow, that's can you bring a dog?
spk_0 I wish that would have been that would have been cool. Huh. So they had dogs there were dogs there. Oh, they're okay
spk_0 Now I'm definitely tuning in um they were melon was
spk_0 Ooh, that's so this is the getcha. Oh, this is the real deal. Yeah, we're gonna
spk_0 French to them the whole thing is a French or German German. Oh, so you can't letter you can't get them to let you go and they get where that suit
spk_0 No, okay. Oh, wow
spk_0 I mean, they're obviously well trained it was funny. I we can judge because it's not like a spoiler-ray kind
spk_0 But there was one person who was so scared and in my head
spk_0 I'm like these are some of the most brilliant dogs and you're not gonna getcha right like
spk_0 If they but they would like circle us and they were like barking at you and jumping at you not touching you
spk_0 Yeah, maybe rubbing up on you a little bit and I'm like oh good job
spk_0 Yeah, the dogs were like this is fun
spk_0 That's intense if you didn't grow up with dogs if you didn't have dogs
spk_0 Did no dogs and and you're in this experience where it's hot and you're you're pooing over plywood
spk_0 Yeah, and now this Malawa. It's full force that you full force like you could see where someone we want to do it
spk_0 No, I know how to panic a dog. Okay. Yeah fair enough. I think that's pretty fair
spk_0 You're saying that wasn't scary for you. I was good. It's news to me. I mean, yeah, she's an Olympian, bro
spk_0 I also like
spk_0 again
spk_0 I read in psychopedias on dogs. I know how brilliant those dogs are and you have recon rains bringing in these trained
spk_0 dogs from
spk_0 Okay, but okay that being said you
spk_0 Yes, but
spk_0 With your husband here I go into kennels with dogs that are in their biggest fear state
spk_0 And I am scared yeah, you know, and I know dogs like yeah
spk_0 And I'm scared I would be a little scared
spk_0 With with their intensity. I'm sure I wouldn't get scared. Yeah
spk_0 And the thing I found that works the best is acknowledging that fear with the dog
spk_0 Yeah, because when you try to ignore well, you probably just won't scared
spk_0 But if you try to ignore that fear that's when it is that's yeah, yeah
spk_0 Like we you know like people tell you like oh dogs can smell fear and then you go
spk_0 I'm gonna scare down the stairs and then that's scared
spk_0 Which makes you more scared
spk_0 Then instead of going okay, I'm scared okay, yeah, we're gonna get through this like you know
spk_0 What was that?
spk_0 There was a test as a study done where
spk_0 Do you told me about this the sweat test where they took sweat from
spk_0 People who were
spk_0 Yes, fear and people who weren't and then had people smell that sweat and it like they're actually is a scent
spk_0 It's true
spk_0 They can smell fear and they do react accordingly to fear
spk_0 But what they found is it's a dog zone attack
spk_0 If they smell fear they also become fearful and in fear the dog it's that whole flight
spk_0 Or fight or freeze or fawn and so if if then fight where it come out from that fear then that's where people go
spk_0 Oh a dog will attack you from fear. Yeah, so in theory yes kind of but it's a long path towards that
spk_0 And the sensationalism of that article was
spk_0 Dollars can smell fear. Yeah, you know, yeah
spk_0 But you're right. Yeah, man. Well educated to these guys
spk_0 Listen, uh, we thought to settle all of this competition. We would arm wrestle. Uh, you and I know I'm getting from
spk_0 Although your family but would be really proud it went or lose they were just being I will
spk_0 gladly not because I haven't lifted weights in a very long time
spk_0 So I would have a sad showing
spk_0 But if if you want if you're really gonna make me do it all the way
spk_0 All right, Andrew let's go. Okay
spk_0 Okay, it's all we're doing this or not. I'm not sure. No, no. I already won. I don't want to I don't want to like put it all in the lion
spk_0 Okay, we have two more questions for you guys and then we'll let you off the hook okay
spk_0 Um, Nash
spk_0 I mean Nash is your dog like that's your dog if
spk_0 For a moment he could just fully understand you everything you're saying and comprehend it
spk_0 What would you say to him? Oh
spk_0 Um
spk_0 That he's still our dog and he's still like our first baby. He's gone. He's obviously gone through
spk_0 such massive transitions with us living in Nashville and LA and then coming back he's in Iowa with us for a little bit and
spk_0 Unfortunately for him he's gone to the biggest transition of our lives having kids and so he went from
spk_0 I was the crazy dog person who thought I wouldn't be able to love children as much as I love my dog
spk_0 That was my like legitimate fear
spk_0 And having three kids he has become the fourth child instead of the first child
spk_0 Which is really hard and I'm sure you guys know this with kids like they they just take so much of your attention
spk_0 Away from your your babies your fur babies
spk_0 And so I would just tell him like he's he's still our first baby. I'm tearing up. She's a year in that random
spk_0 I'm really terribly tear it up
spk_0 There's something about those dogs that are like the coming of age dykes that had just seen like you so many iterations of you like growing up and
spk_0 You know coming coming into your own
spk_0 That it's yeah, I mean, you know, that was split for you. It was Zoe for me
spk_0 And they just hit different and we've betrayed him even more and brought in a puppy. I'm like now you're still you're still
spk_0 Okay, what about you? I
spk_0 think I would tell him
spk_0 Nash boy
spk_0 You're good dog
spk_0 You're good boy and we love you so much buddy and we're so glad that you love us so well
spk_0 He oh my gosh every time we leave
spk_0 It's always this event because he sees a suitcase and he's so it's all sad. Oh, he knows
spk_0 I just want to tell him dude. I love you so much. We're gonna be back and it's gonna be okay and
spk_0 I yeah, I'm just I'm glad we got a meat nash. Yeah, you're last
spk_0 What would he say to you?
spk_0 I don't know more food, please
spk_0 That's good that's good
spk_0 I I can always tell a true dog lover because it almost starts out as an apology
spk_0 You know because you love you dogs so much you just want him to have the best of everything and like the same thing happened with flip where
spk_0 um, you know him and I we were attached to hip everywhere we would go everywhere and then we had kids and we started fostering more dogs
spk_0 And we moved to farms so we could have a place to run around and but as things spread out
spk_0 Then he's not always as close all the time and so like when he was passing
spk_0 I was apologizing to him saying I'm so sorry and like but what I've come to realize over time is that
spk_0 That
spk_0 A bit of separation his heart was filled so much more just getting to watch the kids
spk_0 It's just the amazement of the little ones growing up and waddling around and and sneaking him food in like and like he just loved being the center of all of that and
spk_0 And so yeah, I think I think you guys passed as true dog lovers. You're welcome back anytime
spk_0 Yeah, thank you guys
spk_0 And true coffee lovers too. You know a good coffee when you taste one. I do I do
spk_0 All right, everyone John and Andrew
spk_0 My favorite segment
spk_0 Kelly's always right
spk_0 I don't have it because I don't have a choice
spk_0 Hey, I'm kidding. Oh, you're right. You're still here
spk_0 Okay, what do we get wrong?
spk_0 You know, I don't know that we got a whole lot wrong
spk_0 Well, there we know of yet until you all tell us yeah
spk_0 But no, I think it was just a really fun episode and now like
spk_0 Reflecting back on our time with them. Yeah, they're really fun neat couple and
spk_0 They're really intentional about what they do and how they choose to do things with their family with their dogs
spk_0 The decisions that they make in business and life and it's really neat. So
spk_0 I think one thing that I took away so Sean
spk_0 uh, you know olympian and just
spk_0 She has this like quiet intensity about her, you know, she's not intense from like a
spk_0 I'm gonna get you right, but you can tell like from her reading in psychopedias, right? Like I feel like she's like silently
spk_0 prepping and preparing and
spk_0 You know like mental filing and just gathering all the information and then she strikes. Yeah
spk_0 Yeah, and so like she's kind of like the mom friend who I feel like if you had
spk_0 Any ailment or issue or whatever and you asked her she's like, oh, I'm so glad you asked
spk_0 I've done all the research again. These are your top three options
spk_0 And I've tried these two so I would recommend this one
spk_0 You're right like spending more time with her and having a conversation
spk_0 You start to realize oh yeah, it was by no accident that you are an Olympian right right and
spk_0 You kind of go I want her on my team not as my competitor because I'll be in trouble. Yeah, and Andrew
spk_0 Makes them the perfect power couple in talking with him. I realized I need to become a better
spk_0 listener and podcaster host and really ask the question and then let them
spk_0 Answer that question like he had such intentionality like he were saying in his answers and and such sincerity and he looked at Sean
spk_0 With such love in his eyes. Yeah, that it was really neat to see them working together and the the skill sets that they bring to each other
spk_0 So yeah, I was really impressed and
spk_0 Yeah, that's all I just think they're really fantastic
spk_0 Yeah, well, and if I had to make a prediction
spk_0 So for this season on special forces world's toughest test my prediction is that Sean wins
spk_0 And Andrew well, are they on a team together? Oh, maybe not they might they might be I can't wait to watch it
spk_0 I don't know I don't know tonight. We watch it and I'll bet I'm gonna put my money on Andrew because why not
spk_0 Andrew said during the podcast like that's how he realized how intense she was because he never got to see her as an Olympian
spk_0 And so now he knows where
spk_0 The intensity comes from. Oh, so do you think he accidentally spilled the beans on our podcast?
spk_0 What I mean, I think just knowing them and not knowing who else is on the show. I'm going with Sean
spk_0 I'm going to I'm sticking with Andrew. I gotta roast stick together, you know
spk_0 Okay, so where can you check them out?
spk_0 Uh, you can find them on Instagram Sean Johnson and Andrew East check out their website familymade.com or on Foxes special forces world's toughest test season four
