spk_0 Shawi Taco, can you see? This is where you want to be.
spk_0 Hi everyone, welcome back to Shawi Talk. Thank you so much for all the positive feedback
spk_0 I've been getting. I'm so happy you guys are loving the show. I'm having so much fun doing the show.
spk_0 I want to say we are a week out after doing our pro ring announcing. So on the
spk_0 goals list, one of the things we wrote was be a pro ring announcer. And then this guy I went to
spk_0 college with Michael Hanson reached out and was like, hey, I could get you this crossed off the
spk_0 list. He flew into New York. He trained me last week. We did it. And I'm just like, I'm in awe of
spk_0 everything. So this episode is going to be like a quantum travel show where I'm going to tell you
spk_0 the ending. And then we're going to go back in time, watch his training me, then me sitting down
spk_0 and interviewing Michael, who happens to be a pro sports combat ring announcer and MC. So then
spk_0 I'll sit down with him and then he'll cut to the show. We're not the show. The fight. And then
spk_0 we'll cut back to me in present day. Is that quantum travel? Wait, is it quantum travel? What does
spk_0 quantum mean? Big large. That's definitely not a quantum means. A hundred percent quantum means
spk_0 large. Quantum does not mean large. Don't make me call Dr. Piawna right now. Call him. No,
spk_0 it's quantum. I can't even fly it. But quantum is not quantum means physics and space of time something
spk_0 takes. But quantum is I'm positive. I mean, I'm not positive because otherwise I wouldn't have asked
spk_0 you. But I have a distinct memory on my first day with Dr. Piawna man. If you guys don't know,
spk_0 Dr. Piawna man is a quantum physicist. He has his doctorate in physics. It's a large physicist.
spk_0 It's a large physicist. What does quantum mean? Okay, hold on. A discrete quantity of energy
spk_0 proportional in magnitude to the frequency of the radiation it represents. Okay, so this is a
spk_0 quantum box in the episode. But can you read that again? My brain did not compute it. A discrete
spk_0 quantity of energy proportional in magnitude to the frequency of the radiation it represents.
spk_0 So pretty much what I was saying is it does not mean large. It does not mean large.
spk_0 I really should have got plenty down on it. Okay, my point being this episode we're jumping
spk_0 around a lot. So right now we're in present day and then we're going to go to past past present.
spk_0 Sounds right to me. No, but not only that. We're going to go like like here we're present and then we go
spk_0 E E E E E E E E. What if you're listening? If you're listening on the podcast that and you're like what?
spk_0 E E E E E E E E E E E E E E E E. What I was doing with my hand was showing a timeline because
spk_0 this is not linear. That was the word I was trying to use linear. This episode is not linear.
spk_0 Okay, so let's back up. I mean I don't know the goals listed to ring announced at a boxing fight.
spk_0 Michael Hanson, a pro sports combat ring announcer, Fluin, and trained me. So I already know
spk_0 how the ending is because it already happened in the past. So I can tell you, I know I won't spoil
spk_0 the episode for you. I won't tell you if I did good or bad or if I even got in the ring, but I
spk_0 will tell you this. It was the first time security and I had ever gone to any sort of fighting match.
spk_0 And neither one of us is very much accustomed to seeing physical violence up close and personal.
spk_0 So it was an experience and I know boxing and moiety and all that is very popular.
spk_0 I could see the sporting and I could see even the RNN. But it was like a lot to witness people
spk_0 like hitting each other, but I will tell you too funny things. So they had us, I mean because
spk_0 I was the ring announcer, I was right in front like right there. And at one point a guy punches the
spk_0 other guy, his mouthpiece flies out, hits security, then falls on the ground. And then security goes
spk_0 to like pick it up and then the referee said, no, don't touch it. I'm like, but I'm close and
spk_0 everything. So that was one. And then the other part was, so I'm now on the other side. And I had
spk_0 written out index cards of things to say. And I'm about to go on. I realized I left my card for
spk_0 the next match back where we were sitting, like at our little table on the other side. So I said
spk_0 security, go to the other side, go get my card. He goes, he comes back. He's like, I didn't get your
spk_0 cards. I'm like, go get him. He's like, no, I can't. I said, why? He's like, there was blood because
spk_0 it was so close when someone got punched. The blood, oh no, he was at a bloody nose. It's not got on
spk_0 our cards. My point being, like I had an amazing time. I am so grateful for this experience. I will
spk_0 remember this forever. It was such a new York, like it was underground. It was in like this gym
spk_0 that they convert into like a fight place. And I mean, there's people, I mean, they have chairs,
spk_0 but then they also people like in the raff, what's it? What's it? Raffters. Raffters. Like it was so
spk_0 New York, I felt like I was in a movie set. It was so cool. What an experience. I can go the rest of my
spk_0 life and never sing another man or woman punch each other. And I'll be absolutely fine. But I'm so
spk_0 proud of us for doing it. Oh no, I won't tell you whether or not we did it. We were there. You'll
spk_0 have to continue the episode to see what happens. I think we should like jump into it. So you may
spk_0 have seen in my InstaStories some of Michael training me for it. Or you may have seen the whole video
spk_0 where I actually may or may not do it this episode. So it's going to start with him training me.
spk_0 But this is the extended version. So even if you watched it in my InstaStories, this has like more
spk_0 of the training period him him doing it like all of it. And then I sit down with him. I interview him
spk_0 which is great talking to him and make sure you're subscribed here on YouTube. And if you're listening
spk_0 on a podcast app, make sure you subscribe and give five stars and a positive reading. So
spk_0 all right, let's begin our training becoming a ring announcer.
spk_0 So let's talk about delivery. Okay. So you're probably going. Most promotions will introduce
spk_0 Blue Corner first, Red Corner second. Okay. And you're going to be listening off basically their
spk_0 attributes, their records, hometown and their names. Okay. That's pretty much it. Okay. We're going to
spk_0 keep it simple. Keep it very simple. You don't need to add any flowers. You know what I'm saying?
spk_0 Keep it simple stupid. It's right. It's almost a year. Oh wait, hold on. I brought two boxers.
spk_0 So we have two boxers. For example, okay. We have security key. You lay on the ground and
spk_0 just like shoulder, then not as our two boxer. So this is Bob and this is Fabio. So Bob's in the
spk_0 Blue Corner. Bob's in the Blue Corner. Yeah. So let's go start with Bob. Okay. So let's hear it.
spk_0 Introducing first. All right. What do I say? Just introduce. Interesting first. Fighting out of
spk_0 the Blue Corner. Introduce out of the Blue Corner. Either way. Okay. Out of the Blue Corner,
spk_0 we have Bob. No, say his name last. Oh wait, what do I say? Introducing first. Fighting out of
spk_0 the Blue Corner. All right. Introducing first. Fighting out of the Blue Corner. Perfect. Perfect.
spk_0 Perfect. Then you start listening to the attributes. And they're going to be you're going to have
spk_0 them written down. Okay. So you can say what Jim they represent. Okay. It's big sort of a
spk_0 card. A black of this all. Oh, you're going to write it down. Okay. Oh, I read golf card. Oh, yeah.
spk_0 Okay. So you can say he stands five feet nine inches tall. He stands five feet nine inches tall.
spk_0 Official weight. 145 pounds. Official weight. 149 pounds. And he comes in tonight with a record of
spk_0 two and a. And he comes in with a record of two and a. And he's a wait. You can say from
spk_0 Brooklyn, New York, from Brooklyn, New York, Bob Johnson. Bob Johnson. Okay. You know, look.
spk_0 It's an excellent. It's earlier than I. Yeah. You don't have to drag out his name as much.
spk_0 Okay. You want to do the more for like the minute. The end. Yeah. Okay. So the end of it. It's Bob.
spk_0 Do Bob Johnson again, but like give me give me 50% of that. All right. All right.
spk_0 She starts from the top. Okay. Yeah. Tonight coming out of the Blue Corner. Okay. No.
spk_0 I don't know.
spk_0
spk_0 You know, just get it. Keep it in the table. Introducing first. Okay. Introducing first.
spk_0 From that Blue Corner over there.
spk_0 Oh, no.
spk_0 Oh, you can say in the Blue Corner. In the Blue Corner.
spk_0
spk_0 Are they introducing first in the Blue Corner, standing at a 12.5.3.
spk_0 weighing 150 pounds. His record to the one to two and one to end one. Representing Brooklyn,
spk_0 New York. Perfect. The boxing league of boxing USA. Go to his name. No. It's Bob.
spk_0 So we want to build up to the name. Can I hear what you want? Okay. Here we go. Okay. Introducing
spk_0 first. Fighting out of the Blue Corner. He stands by. I think nine and just tall. He stepped on
spk_0 the scale and officially weighed 145 pounds. And he comes in tonight with a record of two victories
spk_0 and no losses. Fighting out of Brooklyn, New York. Here's Bob Johnson. That was so good. That was
spk_0 introducing tonight from the Blue Corner at an impressive 5.7 weighing tonight 148 pounds.
spk_0 Representing Brooklyn, boxing gym. We've got Bob Johnson. Nice. I like that at the end.
spk_0 That was good. That was good. Here you go. How to press dirty boxing cards that I use that I make.
spk_0 You can keep this one. We'll practice sports. We've got Fabio and Bob back to the stage.
spk_0 Ring. We're going to ring. Ring. Is it always called a ring? Yeah. Okay.
spk_0 And across the ring, he has a pony fighting out of the red corner at an impressive five feet,
spk_0 nine inches weighing this morning, 165 pounds. A record of two and one coming from Queens, New York.
spk_0 Please put your hands together for Fabio. Let's go for a take without the impressiveness.
spk_0 Okay. Too much impresses. Too much impresses.
spk_0 I'm impressed. You know what's a good one? Yeah. If they weighed in at the limit and they didn't
spk_0 weigh over the limit, he'd say he weighed it at a ready. At a ready? At a ready, 165 pounds.
spk_0 That's a good one. Okay. You can really rely on the vowels. Look for the good vowel name.
spk_0 Fabio. Fabio. You can hold it from the bottom of the...
spk_0 So next, we're going to go over how to introduce about a fight. Okay. So very simple. You want to just
spk_0 say how many rounds there are and what weight division it is. That's the basics. You just need to
spk_0 see those two things sort of whether or not there is an event sponsor and who's the referee.
spk_0 Okay. Okay. All right. So I'm going to get into the stage. Okay. So you hop in. Yep.
spk_0 All right. Here. Why don't you show me what I have to do. So
spk_0 ladies and gentlemen, this fight is scheduled for three rounds in the battle and the basement.
spk_0 Fabio, weight division sponsored by Chico's Modega. And your referee in charge is Mike Johnson.
spk_0 Okay. And then you go to the blue corner. So like, what is heavy weight? What's another one?
spk_0 There's heavy weight, welter weight. You also could just say the number. Okay. This fight is three rounds
spk_0 in the 255 pound division or something. Okay. I think that they need that. And it's not like
spk_0 politically incorrect to say people's weight. No. You have to. Okay. Like I'm not going to like
spk_0 get canceled. Or is that this one weight? 15 pounds. Okay. I don't know. Some people don't like
spk_0 their weights. Like, what out there? You know, I'm pretty good. Say she weighed in that. How dare you
spk_0 ask? How dare you ask this lady? One. No, I'm your business. Yeah. Okay. And no. So it's like
spk_0 everyone gave consent to say they're. Yes. Okay. I just don't want to tell you anyone. She's
spk_0 got on this gal. None of our business. It's not about how you look. It's about how you
spk_0 this boxer got on the scale. And I said, no, it's not about how much you weigh. It's about your
spk_0 mind and your emotions. That's right. It's not your heart. It's about your heart. I'm going to get
spk_0 ladies and gentlemen. This first round. No. What do we do? What is this fight? This fight has three rounds
spk_0 in the division of 150. Let's say, Walter, weight division. In the Walter. For practice. Yeah.
spk_0 Walter. What is a Walter? Don't ask me. Okay. In the Walter, weight division. What are you going to
spk_0 say? The ref? Who's the ref? Right then. You could say it then or as you're exiting the ring after
spk_0 the fighter. So here we go. So it's rounds. This is for a schedule for this many rounds. Yeah. At this
spk_0 weight. Yes. And the referee in charge is Joe. Okay. You ready? Okay. Maybe it's the ropes. Yeah.
spk_0 Well, you know, usually especially since you're a lady. Yeah. Somebody maybe the ref will like
spk_0 he'll open open or have like sit on it. Oh, okay. I meant to make it wider for you. Otherwise,
spk_0 you're going to be crawling through you. All right. Ladies and gentlemen, this first fight is
spk_0 scheduled for three rounds in the division of 150 pounds. referee Michael Johnson this evening will
spk_0 be referring this. I was going to say that was great. Just the referee. Referees don't want a lot
spk_0 of attention. Just say it. The referee is him. They move on. Yeah. Yeah. And then and then do I leave
spk_0 the stage or then they know that you're going to say and we go to the blue corner and go to the blue corner.
spk_0 You say that? Let's go to the blue corner. All right. You want to try to blend them together now? Yeah. Okay.
spk_0 Ladies and gentlemen, this bout is scheduled for three rounds in the 140 pound division
spk_0 with referee Mike Johnson. Pretty good. Let's take it over to the blue corner where our first
spk_0 component opponent component just let's more. I have. Okay. Let's take it over to the blue corner.
spk_0 Here you go. Five seven a hundred and fifty pounds. With a record of two and one representing
spk_0 Queen's New York. We have Fabio. And in over to the red corner we have at an impressive
spk_0 five nine hundred and fifty pounds weighed in this morning at a record of two and two breaking
spk_0 in total even. For his last I know. For his legs representing Brooklyn Jim. Give it up for Fabio.
spk_0 You're getting good. I think I just walk off.
spk_0 Don't say hi. Don't say my like. I want to show you a catch. Is that where you're supposed to say a catch phrase?
spk_0 No, that's only for the main event. Oh, but what do you want to have one? Yeah.
spk_0 What are you going to say? All right. Let's get ready to hit while I go.
spk_0 Pretty good. Yeah. You know. And just say the number rounds the weight class and your
spk_0 reference charge and then your cash phrase. Oh, and then go. Okay. So I'm going to try from the top.
spk_0 You ready? Let's see. Let's see. Here we go. Ramen enters the ring. Ladies and gentlemen,
spk_0 tonight our first fight will have three rounds. It's the hundred and fifty pound segment of division
spk_0 with referee Michael Baiko. And now let's get ready to hit while I go. Sit. Let's take it over to the blue corner.
spk_0 But at a height of five seven a weight of a hundred and fifty two
spk_0 representatives. Brooklyn, New York, we've got
spk_0 Bob.
spk_0 And his opponent right now in that red corner at a mediocre five nine hundred
spk_0 press. Say there.
spk_0 Five hundred and sixty five pounds. A record of two to one. Put your hands together.
spk_0 For Fabio.
spk_0 And then you get out. All right. Thank you. That's great. I like that you said put your hands together.
spk_0 Yeah. Okay. Thank you. And that's like your your way of doing it. It's great. Okay. It's great.
spk_0 All right. So then they fight. And then they're going to fight. Do I come up each round?
spk_0 Or not to be? No, they're in. However the fight ends. Okay. If it ends in a technical knockout or a knockout,
spk_0 you would go over to the time keeper. Yeah. Take a card. Yeah. Take your pen. Okay. Here you go. All right.
spk_0 The time keeper says. Oh, these are fake pockets. So wait and so are these. Oh no, this is a real pocket.
spk_0 Okay. Where are these pants? Okay. Okay. Okay. The time keeper is going to probably have had a
spk_0 stopwatch or something like that. They're going to say one minute, thirty three seconds.
spk_0 And you're going to go what round was that? Because I was like not looking. Yeah. He's going to say it was
spk_0 a second round. Okay. And you're going to go awesome. Oh, they may not make it to three rounds.
spk_0 If they somebody gets stopped. Oh, so so it's not a definite three round.
spk_0 Correct. Okay. If you get knocked out, they don't stand you up. And say you got to get going.
spk_0 Okay. We're going to get this pulled through your rounds out. No. Is this violent?
spk_0 It's fighting. Oh, hi. Do you ever go like, oh, this is too much of my heart or no?
spk_0 No. No. That's what the rep is there for. Yeah. It's for fun. In sort of. Yeah. Everyone
spk_0 can send it to being hit. Yes. Okay. Literally. They have like probably signed the license from the state.
spk_0 I think it can be. I'm just crying in the corner. The referee, Michael Bichel, stop the fight.
spk_0 The official time. One minute and 33 seconds of round number two.
spk_0 declaring your winner by TKO. What's TKO? Technical knockout. You could say technical knockout or you
spk_0 can say TKO. TKO. Technical knockout. As opposed to a KO or somebody. It just a knockout. It's knocked out.
spk_0 It gets knocked out. Yeah. Okay. Your referee in charge. Michael Bichel, stop the fight.
spk_0 The official time. One minute and 33 seconds of round number two.
spk_0 declaring your winner by knockout. Fabio Smith. That's it. Okay. Now, if it's a decision, meaning nobody got hurt
spk_0 and it went to all the way to the final battle. Yeah. Then instead of going to the timekeeper,
spk_0 you're going to go over to the scorekeeper. Okay. And you'd be like, hey, give me the scores.
spk_0 And they might, you know, take a minute because they got to like, you know,
spk_0 okay, so I'm going to go right away. They're going to tell me what to say. I pretty much go right
spk_0 away. And I kind of like look over their shoulder and I kind of like right down the scores.
spk_0 As they're running it, then I'll kind of confirm it one more time. Like, okay, this guy won
spk_0 these are the scores. God, I usually write it on my own card. Okay. Ladies and gentlemen,
spk_0 after three rounds, we go to the score cards. Okay. You don't have to rush through it.
spk_0 And the judges score in the fight. 29, 28, 30, 27, and 29, 28, all for your winner by
spk_0 unanimous decision. Fabio. What are those numbers? Those are the scores. Those are the scores.
spk_0 Oh, there's a score. So they're probably going to be three judges sitting in different
spk_0 corners of the ring who will all watch the fight. You get points for different heads.
spk_0 No, they they they assign points of who they think won the round at the end of the round.
spk_0 Okay. The winner of the round gets 10 points. Okay. And the loser of the round gets nine points.
spk_0 Don't ask. Don't ask. It's nice that they give the loser points. They still give them points.
spk_0 Right. Like, because then they're not in zero. Right. Okay. So if, you know, if a judge says that
spk_0 the red corner had won all three rounds and that judges score card will read 30 to 27.
spk_0 Oh, God. It's so long going to give me the final numbers or are they going to give me the numbers
spk_0 and I'm going to add on myself. No. The scorekeeper as the score.
spk_0 Oh, God. All right. So you ready? Let's let's do an improv. See? Okay. Now this is if
spk_0 there was all three rounds. Right? Okay. Hey, what's up? It's 29, 28, 29, 28,
spk_0 wait, multiples? Correct. Oh, because of each round. Yeah. Oh, each. Okay. And then 30, 27.
spk_0 And they're all for the red corner. Okay. So you're going to write you need you need for unanimous
spk_0 decisions. You know, I'm a decision. Okay. But sometimes they're not in that. Correct. Sometimes
spk_0 they're split. And then what happened? And then you sweat. Uh, security. Are you somebody
spk_0 gets dressed? All right. So you ready? Hey. So what's okay? So 29, 28, 29, 28, 30, 27. So it's a
spk_0 U.D. Correct. All for it. Okay. Wait, is it you? No, it's a U.D. I.
spk_0 Is it? Yeah. I mean, U.D. I is like, do you want to do you want? No, no, no. What
spk_0 what you're putting me on good friend that is I'm going to do you. I do. I do.
spk_0 If it's a split decision. Yeah. That's an opportunity for you. Yeah. To be a little bit more of a,
spk_0 of a showman. Okay. Showwoman. Yes. A little bit more of a game show host. Okay. You know,
spk_0 when it's a dancing with the stars and you're finding out who gets cut. Okay. And you know,
spk_0 in America has spoken the couple going home is. Yeah. Duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh,
spk_0 give it a give it some air. Okay. Don't be too dramatic.
spk_0 Build the suspense a little bit. Ladies and gentlemen, after three rounds we go to the score card.
spk_0 As our judges have informed me we have a split decision. Our first judge scored the fight.
spk_0 29 28. Bobbin. Our second judge scoring this evening. 29 28. Smith.
spk_0 And I winner this evening due to our judge scoring the fight. 30 27. Drum roll please.
spk_0 Bobbin. Okay. We're going to cut saying drum roll. We got to think that we'd time to eat that.
spk_0 Okay. All right. Let's take five. So you guys need to know Michael and I went to Yukon
spk_0 together. University of Connecticut. And I did not play basketball. Neither did I. Wait,
spk_0 do you ever have them? But you tell people you went to Yukon that they go, oh, did you play
spk_0 basketball? I'm a tall enough and lanky enough white guy that sometimes people think that I might
spk_0 have played basketball Yukon. I'm four 11 Jewish girl from Long Island and I get, oh,
spk_0 did you were you on the basketball team? I was like, no, no, I was not on the basketball team.
spk_0 So let's start from the beginning because when we went to Yukon you weren't
spk_0 interringed out. Like that's not what you did. Yeah. Well, it wasn't even an idea.
spk_0 How did you get into it? Growing up as a kid, my dad was always really into boxing. So
spk_0 I was already familiar with Michael Buffer who did a lot of huge boxing fights as well as
spk_0 some pro wrestling as well back in the day. Yeah, he is the most legendary ring announcer.
spk_0 I just started seeing myself in that role in this little germ of a dream started forming in my
spk_0 brain and I always kept it, I kept it right in here. I kept it close. I didn't tell anybody. But
spk_0 it was like the secret dream that I had that kept growing in my head. Until one day I just started
spk_0 calling, calling emailing, calling, googling MMA promotions around New York and just reaching out
spk_0 to different promoters and organizations and saying, hi, I'm Michael and I want to be a ring
spk_0 announcer and I would love to be considered. Let me tell you a quick story. My grandmother,
spk_0 Mary Busemi, when I was trying to try to, she's looking down and having, sorry, it's okay.
spk_0 Sorry. This famous thing she did in my family where she was like, Michael, why don't you walk
spk_0 into ABC studios with your head shot and your resume and just walk up to somebody and say,
spk_0 and say, excuse me, but I'd like to be considered. And I'd be like, I was like, grandma, it doesn't
spk_0 like work like that anymore. Like it's not the 1930s. Yeah. We're like somebody just pulls it,
spk_0 pulls in from Kansas and it's like, hi, my name is, you know, John and I'm here to be a star.
spk_0 And like some producers like, ah, perfect. We have just spot for you.
spk_0 Right. Although you know why in this industry, cross the board with entertainment, there is no
spk_0 right way. So your grandma could have been right, but you just don't know. Like well, though,
spk_0 they don't usually let you through the doors. Exactly. Exactly. If you don't have an ID to get
spk_0 there. Well, I took the advice she had given me to try to become an actor to ring announcing.
spk_0 And I would email and DM and, you know, co-call different promoters and say, hey, I'd love to be
spk_0 considered if you ever have an opportunity. Now for a long time, it was just radio silence.
spk_0 Yeah. But then one day, one person got back to me. And I got an email in my inbox and I said,
spk_0 hi, I'm Lauren and I am the event coordinator for Friday Night Fights. And did you book it?
spk_0 I booked it. It's just been building ever since. Oh, I love that to everyone listening.
spk_0 If there's something you want to do, if you have a dream, just go for it. Start sending out
spk_0 the emails, start DMing, start reaching out, walk into ABC and BC and engineer that you just don't
spk_0 know the only way not to make it is by not trying and not doing it. If you keep, I mean, like, I
spk_0 love that. Like you put yourself out there and you finally get a yes. And then you from that,
spk_0 yes, you keep building, you keep working and you see like it happen. Yeah, I mean, I couldn't
spk_0 agree more. And it's like you might get dozens of nose or just non responses. And sometimes you
spk_0 just need one yes. It's putting yourself out there. Of course, but I don't think this is just
spk_0 entertainment. Like this really relates, I even think this relates to dating. Like you have to put
spk_0 your dick, there'll be a lot of rejections. There'll be a lot of nose. But oh, Chelsea Handler.
spk_0 I remember this is I was watching her show, Chelsea lately. So this is years ago. This is before I
spk_0 even got into stand up. I was just a fan of hers. But I was trying to make it in the entertainment
spk_0 business as an actress. And she had on Lady Amdebellum. They were on her show and they were telling a
spk_0 story about how they auditioned for America's Got Talent. And they didn't get on. Like they didn't
spk_0 get on. And then like three years later, they were on on the finale as a pro band. Like they were
spk_0 like as like a special guest. Yeah, yeah, exactly. And they were like telling the story about how
spk_0 they made it. And Chelsea goes, that's the great thing about entertainment. You could get 99
spk_0 nose. And then you just get one yes. And then you could tell everyone else to go fuck themselves.
spk_0 You know, what's the craziest or weirdest thing you've seen happen at a fight?
spk_0 Okay, just recently at Dirty Boxing 3, a guy who lost and he got knocked out basically. It was
spk_0 a TKO, which is a technical knockout. So the referee had to step in and wave off the fight because
spk_0 he was getting beat up. That guy who lost, everyone was exiting the ring. He was walking out.
spk_0 He said something smart to the security guy. This big tattooed, big beard security guy.
spk_0 And then he started fighting the security guard. Physically fight.
spk_0 Physically he lunged at the security guard and a giant melee ensued. And like all the other
spk_0 security guards kind of like dog piled on them. No one really found out like what was said,
spk_0 but it was it was insane. You like grabbed the mic. You're like and it was like the second fight of
spk_0 the night too. Oh my gosh. Tomorrow seeing the fight is going to be the very first boxing I've
spk_0 ever seen. Like I was going to see a little on TV, but truly there'd be the first fight I ever
spk_0 seen like up close. Although I did get in one fist fight in my life. Are you dead? You can't
spk_0 do you want to hear the story? Yeah, of course. Okay, it was spring weekend. So at spring weekend,
spk_0 it's like thousands of people on campus. Not hundreds of thousands. It's insane. It's just one
spk_0 weekend where just everyone parties. So it's like probably like 50,000 people in one parking lot.
spk_0 And everyone's just like much much together banking into each other. I was with Rebecca and
spk_0 right. Do you remember her? Of course. Rebecca and right. So we're drunk and we're just like
spk_0 banging you know just like kind of smiley and I this girl turns around and she goes don't
spk_0 effing bump into me. She didn't say effing. She said the actual word, but it weren't on YouTube.
spk_0 I got to make sure we don't get. She goes you don't effing bump into me and I was like oh my gosh,
spk_0 I'm so sorry. You like you know, because like I didn't think anything and then all of a sudden she
spk_0 punched me right in the mouth. Like before I even knew it. And I've never even been like hit on my
spk_0 tushie for my mom. You know what I mean? Actually, it's not true. Once my mom hit me on the tushie,
spk_0 but this one I was wearing leg braces as a kid. And I turned and it cut my mom's hand. Did she
spk_0 never hit me on the tushie again? But anyway, like hitting was never a thing. So when I got punched in
spk_0 the face, I flipped like a switch flip like a survival thing. And I went and then I pushed her
spk_0 like forward and she fell back and I was so drunk I fell on top of her. And like it was probably
spk_0 like 10 seconds of me like kidding her, but it felt like hours and then Rebecca pulled me off.
spk_0 Rebecca was tall too. Yeah, yeah. I'm like young 4-11. The other girl was probably 4-11 too.
spk_0 We were like two little tiny girls like, you know, going at it and then Rebecca pulled off and she
spk_0 said, probably run, run. Because like, I don't know. We were drunk and we said running and she
spk_0 is like funny memory because we were like, there was like the woods behind the parking lot. And she
spk_0 said she turned around and I was gone and she thought like someone came after me, but then she found
spk_0 me like squatting, peeing by your tree. And she's like, run. And I was like, I have to pee. You know,
spk_0 anyway, that's my one and only fist fight. Why did you ever get into? Well, but she like, I just
spk_0 just swollen lip for like a week. So that's a real fight. Right. I bet she was wasted too. She was.
spk_0 Like this was clearly not like she just was someone who's just probably wanted to fight, you know.
spk_0 Right. And exactly why I never went to spring with her. Yeah, so stupid. But anyway,
spk_0 what I was getting to is I've not seen a lot of violence up front and like close up. So I'm
spk_0 actually really curious tomorrow how I feel about seeing people hitting each other. Like what,
spk_0 what that's going to be like. Well, tomorrow you're going to see people who are really padded up.
spk_0 Okay. They're probably not only do they have big boxing gloves on, but they'll probably some of
spk_0 them might even have head gear on knee pads, shin pads, elbow pads. Because tomorrow's not boxing.
spk_0 Tomorrow you're doing moitime or tie boxing. Can you tell people the difference between the
spk_0 different? So moitie falls within a branch of kickboxing, you could say. It's a martial art that
spk_0 originated in Thailand. And it is referred to as the art of eight limbs because there is punches,
spk_0 elbows, knees and kicks. Okay. There's no headbutting. But you can punch knee, elbow, and kick.
spk_0 And it really is beautiful to watch. Like at a high level like pro moitie is it's like ballet.
spk_0 With bleeding and striking each other. Okay. At this level there's going to be a lot of
spk_0 pads. And you know, that's also what the referee is there for. So nobody really gets beat up to the
spk_0 work. They couldn't as we have. Like I'm hoping my background of live performing kicks in and
spk_0 can do this. Yeah. Yeah. But it's funny. When I did last month, I did stand up in Spanish. And I was
spk_0 so nervous. Because I'm like, how am I supposed to be funny if I don't even know what the heck I'm saying?
spk_0 What happened was I got on stage and my stand up chops, my ears of doing stand up kicked in. And I
spk_0 was able to improv and talk to the audience. So I am hoping my years of training plus your brilliance of
spk_0 coaching kicks in. Guys, tell me in the comments section, how did I do? You know, I don't know.
spk_0 Is that crazy? Yeah. Then watching. No, if I did a good job or not. What's like, what do you want? Like
spk_0 if someone said, Hey, Michael, you can have whatever you want career wise. What's what's the top? Oh,
spk_0 man. Well, the original dream was like UFC or something like that. But I mean, I've realized kind
spk_0 of read more recently that like similar to how Bruce Buffer started out with an organization that
spk_0 was young. Yeah. I realized I said, I don't think the big break for me might be the UFC. It'll probably be
spk_0 something that's either young or doesn't even exist yet. Right. That picks me up and I grow with them.
spk_0 Totally. Totally. Totally. I had a conversation with my friend Regina. I was so depressed and I'm like,
spk_0 I don't understand like, yeah, this is post going viral in my career taking off. I was like, why can't I
spk_0 book a TV show or movie? It's like, I can't make it. I can't make it. And she's like, Robin,
spk_0 when we grew up, there was no such thing as social media. There was no such thing as entertaining
spk_0 millions on Instagram. There was no such thing as going viral on TikTok. She was like, you need to
spk_0 start turning your brain to realize the thing you're doing now just didn't exist when you were creating
spk_0 your dream. But you're doing it. And to your point is the thing that you may want in five years ago,
spk_0 that platform, that type of fighting may not even exist yet. And that may be what you do next.
spk_0 Yeah. Absolutely. And that's what's so cool about keeping your dreams open. It's like you just don't
spk_0 know. Michael, thank you for so much for flying to New York and helping. As me and the kids cross
spk_0 off pro ring announcer off the goals list. Thank you so much. We like appreciate it. You so much.
spk_0 We are so excited to see all the fun things you do in your career. Where can people follow you on
spk_0 Instagram at the Michael Hanson. So the Michael Hanson also of your TV producer. He's a really good
spk_0 host overall. So just like putting that out there in an actor and decent. I do. And singer.
spk_0 I do. All right. Thank you so much. Yeah. Great to be here. Thanks for having me on, Robin.
spk_0 Okay, guys. We are quantuming back into present time. So the training and the interview,
spk_0 you know, got me so pumped, but I'm not gonna lie. I was really nervous. This felt so out of my
spk_0 comfort zone for many reasons. One, like I didn't know the sport. And two, I knew this was not my
spk_0 crowd. Like this was the people who like I just know don't usually go to the Robin Jolt experience
spk_0 who probably don't watch, you know, show all we talk. So I was definitely so nervous. But I showed
spk_0 up and I had to say everyone was so nice. Like everyone who worked at the gym, who worked at the
spk_0 fight, who worked everyone was so welcoming and so friendly. And I had the best time. So why don't we
spk_0 just take a second and listen in or watch in to the fight?
