spk_0 Hi guys, whatever you're doing right now, whatever kind of day you're in the middle of,
spk_0 thank you so much for tuning in and pressing play.
spk_0 Maybe you are here because things have been heavy.
spk_0 Maybe life's moving too fast, or maybe it's not moving at all.
spk_0 At least not in the direction that you need it to.
spk_0 Maybe you're holding a hundred worries at once.
spk_0 And maybe some of those things are completely out of your control.
spk_0 And if so, I just want to tell you that you are not alone.
spk_0 And you are not broken.
spk_0 You are a human in a hard moment.
spk_0 In this space right here, right now,
spk_0 is a quiet, simple space to breathe,
spk_0 to remember who you are and to find your footing again.
spk_0 So let's just take that moment.
spk_0 Let's take that moment to breathe together.
spk_0 Inhale.
spk_0 Exhale.
spk_0 Okay, let's begin.
spk_0 So when life feels uncertain,
spk_0 when the world outside, the world inside your head just feels so loud,
spk_0 it's really easy to begin to spiral.
spk_0 And if you're spiraling in the wrong direction,
spk_0 it's going to feel like you're drowning in your thoughts,
spk_0 and your obligations, and your fears.
spk_0 And you might find yourself thinking things like,
spk_0 why is everything happening at once?
spk_0 Is this ever going to get better?
spk_0 Are things going to change?
spk_0 Why can't I just be okay?
spk_0 Why can't everything just be easy?
spk_0 And then you start comparing with everyone else.
spk_0 And here's what I want you to hear today.
spk_0 It's okay to not have it all figured out.
spk_0 And it's okay to feel overwhelmed.
spk_0 But in the chaos,
spk_0 I'm here to remind you that you are not powerless.
spk_0 There's still something you can do.
spk_0 And it might seem small,
spk_0 but sometimes this small thing is everything.
spk_0 And that is that you can choose which thoughts you give your energy to.
spk_0 And there's a quote I love,
spk_0 and it comes from William James, and he said this,
spk_0 the greatest weapon against stress is our ability
spk_0 to choose one thought over another.
spk_0 Just think about that.
spk_0 Let me read it again.
spk_0 The greatest weapon against stress is our ability
spk_0 to choose one thought over another.
spk_0 Stress also just so you guys know,
spk_0 doesn't always come from our circumstances.
spk_0 Often it's just the thoughts that we repeat on loop,
spk_0 the ones that tell us that we're not enough,
spk_0 or that we'll never make it through,
spk_0 or that our circumstances are somehow our fault.
spk_0 But when you catch those thoughts,
spk_0 you identify the lies,
spk_0 and you choose better thoughts,
spk_0 and you choose to believe in the better thoughts.
spk_0 You begin to shift your atmosphere inside yourself,
spk_0 and you start to take background.
spk_0 And again, changing your thoughts
spk_0 isn't going to fix everything instantly,
spk_0 but it will give you room to breathe.
spk_0 Room to act with clarity instead of panic.
spk_0 Room to focus on what we can do,
spk_0 instead of drowning in all the things that we can't.
spk_0 And now I want to share something special with you guys.
spk_0 It's a poem that I read when I really needed to,
spk_0 when I really needed to,
spk_0 and this poem is great,
spk_0 because it just meets you where you are,
spk_0 and I hope that you guys feel it,
spk_0 the way that I feel it,
spk_0 and it's by a man called Rudyard Kipling,
spk_0 and it's called If.
spk_0 So I'll just be reading a short excerpt from this poem.
spk_0 But it's a beautiful poem.
spk_0 I encourage you to go read the entirety of it,
spk_0 but listen slowly and let it sink in.
spk_0 If you can dream and not make dreams your master,
spk_0 if you can think and not make thoughts your aim,
spk_0 if you can meet with triumph and disaster,
spk_0 and treat those two imposter's just the same.
spk_0 If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken,
spk_0 twisted by naves to make a trap for fools,
spk_0 or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
spk_0 and stoop and build them up with worn out tools.
spk_0 If you can make one heap of all your winnings,
spk_0 and risk it on one turn of pitch and toss,
spk_0 and lose and start again at your beginnings,
spk_0 and never breathe a word about your loss.
spk_0 Those words from that poem, they remind me that strength
spk_0 is not about pretending that we're fine.
spk_0 It's about standing up after we've been knocked down,
spk_0 and you not know how important it has been for me in my life
spk_0 to hear those words,
spk_0 about hearing about being willing to start over
spk_0 with tired hands,
spk_0 but a hopeful heart.
spk_0 This poem's also about choosing grace over shame,
spk_0 faith over fear, peace over panic.
spk_0 So if you are in the middle of a mess,
spk_0 don't rush it, you don't have to have everything fixed today.
spk_0 Just stay grounded, keep breathing,
spk_0 and choose one better thought.
spk_0 And you're already doing that right now by being here.
spk_0 So thank you, and thank you for not giving up.
spk_0 Thank you for being human with all of your beautiful, messy strength.
