spk_0 Hey, it's me, your ENT, your news and throat doctor.
spk_0 Now I can't say that there has been any scientifically proven medical benefit to it, but from
spk_0 a vibes perspective, I can say that a good thing to put in your ears is another episode
spk_0 of this podcast.
spk_0 Before we continue my first ever journey through the Harry Potter series, just a few quick
spk_0 announcements.
spk_0 Hello, we're back with another full episode.
spk_0 Oh my goodness, what fun announcements wise, we've got live shows coming to a city near
spk_0 you if you live in one of these cities.
spk_0 We've got a Potter show coming to Kansas City, Missouri on August 18th, 2025, and then
spk_0 Providence, Rhode Island on September 13th, 2025.
spk_0 You can get tickets to these shows at Potterlesspacast.com.
spk_0 I will also be at Enchantecon, August 15th through 17th in St. Louis, Missouri.
spk_0 I'll be doing stuff for Potterless.
spk_0 I'll be doing stuff for the New Olympian.
spk_0 The schedule drops in a couple of days at the time of recording this on June 6th, and
spk_0 I do know for a fact that the Potterless live show will be on Saturday.
spk_0 The T&O live show will be on Sunday, but I'll be doing stuff all three days.
spk_0 So if you want to see me having some goofy nerdy times at Enchantecon, come on through.
spk_0 I think you can use promo code tubes for 10% off at checkout.
spk_0 I'm not 100% positive though.
spk_0 But yes, in addition to that, I've got lots of shows for the New Olympian as well, but
spk_0 I can talk about that during the mid-roll break.
spk_0 The one thing that I do want to announce here before you get into this episode is that
spk_0 I do have a new limited series podcast out.
spk_0 If you like the Fast and the Furious movies, then you're going to like this.
spk_0 I had never seen them before making this podcast with my buddy, Eric Hamilton Schneider,
spk_0 who you have heard on Potterless multiple times before.
spk_0 And he is a super fan of The Fast and the Furious.
spk_0 So we did a limited series podcast where we made one episode per movie where we would
spk_0 watch the movie together.
spk_0 We did the first four together in person and then the other ones we did remotely.
spk_0 But we would watch one of the movies and then immediately get on the microphone to talk
spk_0 about all of our thoughts about the movie.
spk_0 And it was so much fun and it was an absolute delight.
spk_0 And you can get all of these episodes right now.
spk_0 All at once, if you go to the last and the Curio dot US.
spk_0 So it's like the last and the curious, but the last and the Curio dot US, you can also
spk_0 go to patreon.com, such Potterless and go to the shop because it's on the patreon shop.
spk_0 patreon.com such Potterless has been rebranded to the TNO Patreon, but there's still a
spk_0 bunch of Potterless stuff there.
spk_0 If you go to the shop portion, you'll see that just for five bucks, you can get every
spk_0 episode completely ad free of the last and the curious.
spk_0 You also see that there are a couple of replays of live shows that had Potterless portions
spk_0 to them, one from a past floor to show, one from a very recent Des Moineshow where we did
spk_0 a Fast and Furious act two.
spk_0 So if you want to get some Potterless live show live stream replays, you can get those
spk_0 as well at that Patreon shop.
spk_0 Now let's talk about this episode though.
spk_0 What is this episode?
spk_0 This episode is audio from a previous leaky con.
spk_0 I mentioned that I will be at enchanticon, which is the convention formerly known as leaky
spk_0 con. This is from Denver leaky con from 2022.
spk_0 It was in the fall of 2022 and this was a live show that I did with Stanislav Jenevsky,
spk_0 the actor who played Victor Krum in the Harry Potter films.
spk_0 And it was such a delight.
spk_0 It was so fun.
spk_0 We went through all of the info I could find about Dermstrang, bobatten and all of the
spk_0 other magical wizarding schools.
spk_0 It was the second time I got to interview him at this convention.
spk_0 So we had a little bit of chemistry going into it.
spk_0 Super fun.
spk_0 Super good times.
spk_0 I think you will enjoy it.
spk_0 So without further ado, let's get into this episode going through all of the non
spk_0 Hogwarts wizarding schools with Stanislav Jenevsky, aka Victor Krum.
spk_0 Leaky con.
spk_0 What's up?
spk_0 Welcome to Potterless Lock makes some noise.
spk_0 All right.
spk_0 That long last the moment is here.
spk_0 So by a show of hands and a show of making some noise, who's ever heard of the little podcast
spk_0 that I made called Potterless?
spk_0 All right.
spk_0 And who here is just like that sounds like fun.
spk_0 So I showed up.
spk_0 All right.
spk_0 Shout out to the that sounds like fun.
spk_0 So I showed up, folks.
spk_0 Let's do it.
spk_0 So we're going to be having a lot of fun here today.
spk_0 We are going to be joined by a very special guest and talking about something that he's got
spk_0 some expertise in.
spk_0 We will be doing a deep or dive into the extraneous other wizarding world schools that exist in
spk_0 the Harry Potter canon.
spk_0 We'll be seeing how many we can talk through in this amount of time because there are certainly
spk_0 a lot of information about two of the other schools.
spk_0 And then the other ones get short paragraphs on Pottermore.com.
spk_0 So we will be going through some of those, but I'm not going to be doing it alone.
spk_0 I will be joined by our very special guest.
spk_0 You may know him as the actor who played Victor Krum in the Harry Potter movies.
spk_0 Please give it up for Stan Yinevsky.
spk_0 I don't know.
spk_0 We can keep talking until it begins to work.
spk_0 Is it on?
spk_0 There we go.
spk_0 All right.
spk_0 How's Ruliky Kahn bin?
spk_0 It has been fantastic.
spk_0 I've had a wonderful time.
spk_0 I'm very happy to see so many of you here.
spk_0 Late Sunday now.
spk_0 It's been a great experience.
spk_0 I've had a lot of fun.
spk_0 I hope that you all had a great full weekend.
spk_0 Some of you had a day or two days.
spk_0 Right.
spk_0 It's been a great.
spk_0 Them has been really good.
spk_0 People have been awesome.
spk_0 Very happy to be here.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Can confirm.
spk_0 Everyone's been really nice, which has been a whole lot of fun.
spk_0 Now we are going to be talking about the extraneous wizarding schools that do exist.
spk_0 Obviously, you played someone that was in Dermstrang.
spk_0 We will begin with Dermstrang.
spk_0 But before I get into all of the things that I've pulled from the Harry Potter wiki sites
spk_0 and all the hyperlinks and figuring out all where they got their sources from, what
spk_0 are your general thoughts on Dermstrang?
spk_0 Did you enjoy the school?
spk_0 Do you feel a kinship to it more so than a Hogwarts house?
spk_0 I think it's the best wizarding school of all.
spk_0 It's definitely got some powerful wizards that have come out from Dermstrang.
spk_0 Very free, dark hearts, magic is all allowed.
spk_0 So yeah, a lot of fun.
spk_0 Somewhere in the north.
spk_0 Somewhere in the north.
spk_0 Very mystical as well.
spk_0 Right.
spk_0 There's a lot of intrigue and all of that.
spk_0 But here's the information I was able to uncover about it.
spk_0 So it does say it's located in the far north of the European continent.
spk_0 I mentioned that.
spk_0 Very vague.
spk_0 And it doesn't mention it's as the school is willing to accept international students
spk_0 from as far as Bulgaria, which when I was looking at a map, you know, it's much farther
spk_0 south from your experience being from Bulgaria yourself.
spk_0 What are the differences between Bulgaria where you and your character are from versus the
spk_0 far north like Finland, Sweden area?
spk_0 It feels like those are very different countries.
spk_0 Oh, yes.
spk_0 Well, the further north you go, the more Vikings like things become.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 People are tall, pale, blue eyes, blonde hair.
spk_0 Sure.
spk_0 The further south you go, people are more like me.
spk_0 Dark hair, dark eyes.
spk_0 Maybe tan, I'm old tattooed.
spk_0 So I've sort of lost sense of my tan.
spk_0 But yeah, powerful, strong, good looking people.
spk_0 Yeah, just objectively the best people.
spk_0 So the Wiki continues as having existed since at least 1294.
spk_0 Dermstrang is one of the three schools that competed in the tribes of tournament and was
spk_0 notorious for prominently featuring dark arts in its curriculum.
spk_0 Now here it also has what I think are some big liberties that they've taken because
spk_0 it says, Dermstrang did not admit Muggleborns, but certain students might not necessarily
spk_0 have shared this prejudice.
spk_0 In 1994, Victor Crum attended the Yulball with Hermione Granger, who was Muggleborn and would
spk_0 not have been admitted to Dermstrang.
spk_0 So apparently, you going on a dance with someone was enough to be like, they're not all bad
spk_0 at Dermstrang.
spk_0 There is always this one or the one.
spk_0 But no, Victor Crum seemed like he was, when I read the books, I really enjoyed him as
spk_0 the character.
spk_0 It seemed like he was a nice guy.
spk_0 It was cool to see him talk with someone, not just Muggleborn.
spk_0 He did a little bit more of it in the book, not as much scowling.
spk_0 But it felt like it was cool that he, this big popular guy, didn't think too highly of
spk_0 himself.
spk_0 He could still ask out the nerdy quieter girl to the dance.
spk_0 And I thought that was nice.
spk_0
spk_0 Yeah, that's true.
spk_0 That's what he's got.
spk_0 He's got taste.
spk_0 He's above things.
spk_0 So he does his own, you know, he goes his own ways.
spk_0 Right, right.
spk_0 And Hermione was a good catch for the Yulball.
spk_0 Right.
spk_0 Must have made that.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 I mean, no, I think he does go his own way.
spk_0 He swam in the lake just for exercise.
spk_0 Feels like, you know, a out of the box to show up.
spk_0 A little bit.
spk_0 Yeah, a little show up.
spk_0 Just swimming in a very public place in the school.
spk_0 Everyone's looking through the windows.
spk_0 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
spk_0 I can see it.
spk_0 Having a bunch of, you know, students running after him.
spk_0 Yep.
spk_0 Yes, that felt nice.
spk_0 Now, that was definitely in the books.
spk_0 Were there lots of scenes of you just like getting chased by girls around?
spk_0 Was that stuff that they had you shoot for the film as well?
spk_0 Yes, we did.
spk_0 Him stretching my lake and then, you know, turning around.
spk_0 But then Hermione was present.
spk_0 So he was concentrated on her.
spk_0 I had that focus.
spk_0 So that it didn't feel nice having some extra attention.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Now, in the books, when Victor Crumb speaks, they write it in a way where it's like phonetically
spk_0 you're supposed to understand his accent.
spk_0 So instead of saying, W's, it'll have the letter V. So it'll be like V have grounds larger
spk_0 than these through the winter.
spk_0 V have very little daylight.
spk_0 So V are not enjoying the ventures.
spk_0 As someone who is actually from Bulgaria, when you read this, like, were you upset that
spk_0 they were just like, this is how they talk V's abound?
spk_0 No, this is not how we talk.
spk_0 But it's more like a stereotypical thing.
spk_0 Maybe in some distant village, you can get someone talking like that, which is all right.
spk_0 Not everybody has, well, I have a strange accent myself.
spk_0 I think it gave, like, little spice to his character.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 And I did try and bring that stuff onto the screen, which was fun.
spk_0 I wish he would have talked more.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 So I could have played around with his accent.
spk_0 Sure.
spk_0 And, you know, two, three sentences.
spk_0 Not much to play around with.
spk_0 That's OK.
spk_0 You know, I think you did a great job.
spk_0 And it's a shame what was left on the cutting room floor.
spk_0 And it should have been two movies, anyway.
spk_0 It definitely should have been.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Way too much material.
spk_0 So in addition to this, it also says that the school was unplodible.
spk_0 So it had its concealed wearabouts from plain sight.
spk_0 So it was hard to say where it was.
spk_0 But it was generally thought of that it would be in the far north of Europe.
spk_0 It was founded during the Middle Ages by the great Bulgarian witch, Nareda Volcinova.
spk_0 Does this sound like it would be a Bulgarian name at all?
spk_0 It feels very Russian.
spk_0 No, it doesn't feel Russian.
spk_0 It feels Bulgarian.
spk_0 OK.
spk_0 Yeah, like it would be Volcinova, which translates like it has a woven root, the surname.
spk_0 OK.
spk_0 Kind of, you know, coming from the wolves.
spk_0 OK.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Sounds like a Bulgarian surname.
spk_0 All right.
spk_0 Well, she seems like a cool person from what I researched about her.
spk_0 She served as the first head of the school.
spk_0 And she seemed to be doing well, seemed to be popular.
spk_0 But she was succeeded after her mysterious death by Professor Harfang Munter.
spk_0 Is Harfang Munter a Bulgarian name?
spk_0 Sounds more Austrian.
spk_0 OK.
spk_0 Well, there may be years from a different country that founded it.
spk_0 But he immediately succeeded her after her very mysterious death,
spk_0 which definitely sounds like he super murdered her.
spk_0 But he apparently established Durmstrang's reputation
spk_0 for emphasizing more aggressive magic, dark magic, dueling as part of the...
spk_0 Which is very cool.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 So for the guy who makes it more intense, I wouldn't be surprised if he murdered poor
spk_0 Neurada to take the position, but...
spk_0 Is it competition?
spk_0 Yeah, you know.
spk_0 So apparently, in 1294, the tri-usure tournament was established as a friendly competition
spk_0 between Durmstrang, Hogwarts, and Boba Ton.
spk_0 But in 1792, a cockatrice, which is a magical creature that resembles a rooster
spk_0 with a lizard's tail, a cockatrice went on a rampage and injured the heads of the schools.
spk_0 And the tri-usure tournament was then suspended indefinitely only restarting in 1994.
spk_0 Correct me if I'm wrong, but no kids died?
spk_0 That's not why they canceled it.
spk_0 It was because some people in charge got hurt by a chicken lizard.
spk_0 That's what stopped the tournament that was running for 500 years, and they're like,
spk_0 ah, some people got attacked by a chicken lizard, shut it down.
spk_0 Do they mention what size that chicken was?
spk_0 It was a kind of rooster.
spk_0 That's true.
spk_0 It doesn't say that it was rooster size.
spk_0 They just said that it was resembling a rooster with a lizard's tail.
spk_0 So maybe it was a cute monster.
spk_0 It was a huge, people-grip size chicken.
spk_0 It's a dragon tail.
spk_0 I will say, yeah, a dragon-sized chicken does sound terrifying.
spk_0 And a new version of the Would You Rather fight 100 horse-sized ducks or, you know, duck-sized
spk_0 horse is kind of thing.
spk_0 Would you fight a dragon-sized rooster or a hundred rooster-sized dragons?
spk_0 Well, I would.
spk_0 I went fighting the Chinese fireball.
spk_0 So, yeah, you're fine.
spk_0 You're okay.
spk_0 I have to decide.
spk_0 You got it.
spk_0 So at some point, after 1981, Egar Carcarov, after being acquitted as a death-eater by
spk_0 betraying information to the Ministry, so he did the classic leak.
spk_0 The information will get you off Scott-free.
spk_0 He then rose to the position of headmaster of Dermstrang, and he became immensely unpopular
spk_0 in this position, and several students were removed from the school by their parents for
spk_0 his ruthlessness.
spk_0 He insisted on an environment ruled by fear and intimidation from his students, leading
spk_0 many to view him as egotistical and unprincipled.
spk_0 But this sounds like- was this the kind of environment in which Crum thrived?
spk_0 Because it felt like Crum did just fine under these circumstances.
spk_0 Crum was fine.
spk_0 He was his favorite, so privileged.
spk_0 Yeah, Egar Carcarov does have that reputation of a sinister sort of leader of a minion's
spk_0 army.
spk_0 Yeah?
spk_0 I just had this pickable mean, my head.
spk_0 Minions.
spk_0 I'm now imagining minions doing all the coups.
spk_0 Dermstrang minions.
spk_0 He was a military leader, which we saw unpopular though.
spk_0 Was the actor who played him a nice guy though?
spk_0 Yeah, Péjay is a really, really nice guy.
spk_0 He was very funny on set, and he would get into character and become the sinister, still
spk_0 very pleasant to work with person.
spk_0 He had this little extension to his small finger, and he kept doing his little magic things
spk_0 on everybody going like, I didn't decide he had a prosthetic to make the finger longer.
spk_0 No, I was like those claw rings.
spk_0 He loved that.
spk_0 You would come next to my shoulder and be like, yeah.
spk_0 That's funny.
spk_0 It's funny that he's a very silly guy, and then it's action.
spk_0 Now I'm angry, Carcarov.
spk_0 Action, and then you just sense that thing moving.
spk_0 I'm like, yeah, very different one.
spk_0 This is like, how funny jokes to like.
spk_0 Curse them all.
spk_0 It just used your ones, man.
spk_0 Yeah, but we do with the pinky.
spk_0 There's such an extra flourish to it.
spk_0 It's like an extra bit of magic.
spk_0 Right.
spk_0 Yeah, because then it's the intrigue of like, what's this guy doing with his pinky?
spk_0 Like a kind of Mr. Rex you and like, he said, just remember it was like a dragon claw.
spk_0 Extension.
spk_0 It was just on one hand.
spk_0 He was covered, you know, this little play thing and then that went on forever.
spk_0 And it was just on one finger.
spk_0 Did he have an eye on it?
spk_0 Just on one finger.
spk_0 Just one finger and he was just constantly.
spk_0 That's so fun.
spk_0 So during his time as the school administrator, some students copy Grindelwald's symbol onto
spk_0 their books, the Deathly Hallows logo, and they would put it on their books and their
spk_0 bags to try to impress others.
spk_0 But then they were taught a lesson.
spk_0 And this is a direct quote from the book where I think someone was asking about it and they
spk_0 said, oh, followers of him were taught a lesson.
spk_0 You know, those students were taught a lesson by folks who lost family members to dark
spk_0 wizards.
spk_0 So they would, you know, get angry.
spk_0 But the way that Harry Potter wiki wrote this is to make it very clear what they mean
spk_0 by taught a lesson.
spk_0 They put taught a lesson in quotation marks and then in parentheses, it says, presumably
spk_0 in the form of retribution.
spk_0 So they have to explain what being taught a lesson means, which I think is fantastic.
spk_0 Now I forgot this, but it said here that Dermstrang during the Trials of Tournament, they
spk_0 would go back into the boat to sleep.
spk_0 Is that something you ever did for the film, but then it got cut out?
spk_0 I completely forgot that Dermstrang would go back to the boat every night to sleep.
spk_0 Can you imagine the parties that went on?
spk_0 Well, we filmed none of that.
spk_0 OK, but there was a scene where Victor Crum did his show of training jumping from the
spk_0 ship, right, which we didn't see in the film.
spk_0 I wish we had filmed also going back and doing our Dermstrang stuff.
spk_0 Sure.
spk_0 That's been really cool.
spk_0 When you were doing the dive thing, did that take like a lot of training?
spk_0 Were you well versed in diving or did you have to like take lessons and all that?
spk_0 No, I went, I had coaching by the Olympics coach for diving.
spk_0 So I learned how to dive from the highest platform.
spk_0 Platform, yeah.
spk_0 Yeah, which was really cool.
spk_0 Definitely not something I was very comfortable with to start with, but now I just, yeah,
spk_0 it's a skill, a good skill.
spk_0 Yeah, good.
spk_0 I took from Harry Potter.
spk_0 So now I am like, watch movie.
spk_0 And when they had you actually diving it, I'm assuming you were like in it, was like an
spk_0 indoor pool with a green screen stuff all around.
spk_0 Yes, they built a special tank for the movie.
spk_0 OK.
spk_0 And if he didn't use the scene.
spk_0 Well, yeah, but they used all the diving stuff, you know, the lake, everything.
spk_0 OK, was done in that tank.
spk_0 OK.
spk_0 So you were just doing it there.
spk_0 Was it better?
spk_0 Was it like a big pool?
spk_0 Was it small?
spk_0 What is it?
spk_0 I think it's the biggest set, you know, the film set, a pool ever built.
spk_0 OK.
spk_0 So a huge thing.
spk_0 And they covered it in mirrors.
spk_0 Oh.
spk_0 So you would literally lose sense of how big it is.
spk_0 Oh, God.
spk_0 And then you have to jump off a thing in a room of all.
spk_0 That sounds like a different game.
spk_0 And you have a diverse team.
spk_0 And yeah, wow, intense stuff.
spk_0 Well, glad you still have that diving skill.
spk_0 If you ever go, I don't know, cliff jumping or anything like that.
spk_0 I don't know how far I would go up, but yeah.
spk_0 At least platform height.
spk_0 So Carcarov full-heartedly supported Crumb with tremendous amounts of bias,
spk_0 according to Harry Potter Wiki.
spk_0 Their words are not mine.
spk_0 Supported Crumb with tremendous amount of bias, both as a judge towards the champions
spk_0 and as a headmaster to the students.
spk_0 And what's funny is on Harry Potter Wiki, they'll put like reference links when they
spk_0 justify things.
spk_0 And most times it'll like, you'll click in, you'll see like,
spk_0 oh, this page in this book or like, oh, they set this on Pottermore.
spk_0 There were three reference links to this one sentence about Carcarov being too
spk_0 nice to Crumb, which felt excessive.
spk_0 They really want to prove like, no, it feels like this article was written
spk_0 by another Dermstrang student.
spk_0 That was like, God, I wasn't fair.
spk_0 He was so biased against us.
spk_0 Did you ever get a sense of bias there?
spk_0 Or do you think it was just Crumb was the best and everyone else is just jealous?
spk_0 Well, he was his favorite and he's an international,
spk_0 quidditch superstar.
spk_0 So he will get a little bump here and there, a little push and privilege.
spk_0 But this is hard earned respect.
spk_0 Right.
spk_0 It doesn't come for free.
spk_0 That's true.
spk_0 So I think it's just Crumb was up to all the other students who were jealous
spk_0 at the time, well, you got to work harder, man.
spk_0 So Carcarov then fled after Voldemort rose again.
spk_0 It was not known who took over Dermstrang after or if the school's reputation
spk_0 improved or worsened due to someone else being in power.
spk_0 However, none of the students appeared to be too concerned by this.
spk_0 As Carcarov was unpopular among the school, especially when he had his students
spk_0 row the ship while he rested in the cabin during their arrival.
spk_0 So my question for you, do you think Crumb also had to row the ship?
spk_0 Or do you think he got enough special treatment where Carcarov was like,
spk_0 everybody row, Crumb, you don't have to worry about it.
spk_0 My special boy.
spk_0 I don't know why I have this picture of that scene from Titanic.
spk_0 Oh.
spk_0 Yeah, maybe Crumb was at the back of the ship just enjoying the sun.
spk_0 Or maybe he was the guy beating the drum.
spk_0 He was just instructing them.
spk_0 He was like, I'm helping, I promise.
spk_0 No, no, no.
spk_0 He wouldn't be beating the drum.
spk_0 He'd be catching some sun tan and just.
spk_0 Yeah, I'm saving myself for the tournament.
spk_0 I need to rest.
spk_0 He needs his full power and energy concentration on the tri-whiz tournament.
spk_0 Sure.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 He knows he's going to be selected even before.
spk_0 Can you imagine him rowing and downstairs?
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 And then his triceps are all sore for when he needs to fight the dragon?
spk_0 No, totally makes sense.
spk_0 Surely they would use a bit of magic to...
spk_0 That's the kind of thing.
spk_0 That's always the question with manual labor.
spk_0 It's like, why does Filch have a job?
spk_0 Like, is it punishment?
spk_0 Because you can clear everything up with magic.
spk_0 Same kind of thing.
spk_0 They could certainly enchant the robots.
spk_0 But maybe this is Carcarov's way of teaching them discipline.
spk_0 Guylets are retraining.
spk_0 Yes, it's very much...
spk_0 It's the Mr. Miyagi.
spk_0 Like, you need to do the harder thing so that I can prove to you your worth
spk_0 as opposed to the easy way out is using the magic.
spk_0 Here in a Dermstrain we row boats ourselves.
spk_0 Like I used to do back in the day.
spk_0 Now, more notes on Harfang Munter, who definitely murdered the first headmaster,
spk_0 says about Harfang.
spk_0 Well, Harfang was the second headmaster.
spk_0 He took over the school shortly after Narita Volchenova's mysterious death.
spk_0 He was a wizard of, quote, dubious allegiance or nefarious intent,
spk_0 having stressed the importance of dueling and all forms of martial magic,
spk_0 something that the school is reputed for,
spk_0 even today, having kept it as an important part of the curriculum.
spk_0 So, martial magic, I didn't even...
spk_0 That's a whole new brand of martial arts,
spk_0 as you're getting magic into the...
spk_0 Always so a bit of martial magic when the dumbstrangs entered for the first time.
spk_0 Sure.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Hogwarts.
spk_0 You know, flips and capoeira stuff.
spk_0 Yeah, it was some really cool things.
spk_0 Oh, the dragon's coming out.
spk_0 Yeah, it makes sense.
spk_0 Now, there's also a section on the Dermstrain wiki that says,
spk_0 known students and the known students are Geller Grindelwald,
spk_0 Igor Karkarov, who's listed as possibly,
spk_0 since it's not confirmed that he actually went to the school.
spk_0 He's just an admaster at the school.
spk_0 Viktor Krum, Karkarov's aide, who we talked before,
spk_0 we'll talk about.
spk_0 And then the last person mentioned is Dermstrain Boy.
spk_0 LAUGHTER
spk_0 It's just, I guess, someone who had enough screen time
spk_0 where he has his own Harry Potter wiki pd. a page,
spk_0 but apparently the fifth most popular student at Dermstrain, Dermstrain Boy.
spk_0 It's probably the one that rode the article.
spk_0 LAUGHTER
spk_0 Yeah, that's exactly.
spk_0 It's a grumma grumma grumma.
spk_0 But I gotta put myself in, but not make it too obvious.
spk_0 Let's get a little credit in here.
spk_0 Now, something that I mentioned here, and I've been saying Dermstrain,
spk_0 I'm apparently incorrectly, because it says the pronunciation of Dermstrain
spk_0 is Dormstrain, D-O-O-R-M, String.
spk_0 Is that something you guys were coached on when you were in the film?
spk_0 Were they saying very particular, like, you have to say,
spk_0 if this way, this is the word?
spk_0 Well, there was so many accents amongst Dormstrain.
spk_0
spk_0 So I think there was no specific way of saying it.
spk_0 OK.
spk_0 It would be more like a Dormstrain, like a, ooh, ooh, more of a, ooh, than a, uh.
spk_0
spk_0 Now, Dormstrain, according to the etymological breakdown,
spk_0 seems to be a spoonerism for Sturm and Drain,
spk_0 which is a barrageerman expression, meaning turmoil, and to ferment.
spk_0 It derives from the name of a highly emotionally driven German artistic movement
spk_0 of the late 1700s precursors to Romanticism.
spk_0 Sturm and Drain literally translates to as tempest and urge,
spk_0 or charge and rush, but it was anglicized as storm and stress.
spk_0 Stranged, you know, I had a different picture, moon and shine.
spk_0 You know, they, they produce their own drink.
spk_0 It's called rakia, which is moonshining.
spk_0 OK.
spk_0 Is it good?
spk_0 Oh, it's very good. It's like brandy.
spk_0 Oh, all right. Nice, nice, nice.
spk_0 So that's everything that we have about Dormstrain,
spk_0 but I have prepared some things about some of the other schools.
spk_0 We'll get through as many as we can before we end it with Q&A.
spk_0 Eventually, while the microphone comes out,
spk_0 so start thinking of some questions you want to ask Stan and I.
spk_0 But let's move on to the other school that was given some fair shine.
spk_0 And that was Boba Tahn.
spk_0 And this is...
spk_0 Oh, we enjoyed them.
spk_0 Yes.
spk_0 During filming, did you have a lot of crossover with the Boba Tahn?
spk_0 Well, they did.
spk_0 Drain keep us apart.
spk_0 But yeah, we kept us close as possible.
spk_0 OK, yeah.
spk_0 It feels like that could have happened at the actual school itself,
spk_0 which you kind of sneak off to each other's trailer.
spk_0 Yeah, it sort of happened naturally anyway.
spk_0 You know, all these beautiful, there were dancers and ballerinas
spk_0 and, you know, gymnasts, really beautiful.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 And we had to get some energy stimulation.
spk_0 Well, thanks.
spk_0 I mean, it feels like you guys would get along because from what you've said in various interviews,
spk_0 it seems like all the other Dermstrang extras, a lot of the guys who did all this dancing.
spk_0 Like, they were various athletic feats in terms of things like we're saying,
spk_0 you know, gymnasts and all of that.
spk_0 Boba Tahn's obviously...
spk_0 Yeah, the special feature.
spk_0 We all look the same.
spk_0 In a way.
spk_0 Same haircut, same clothing.
spk_0 Uh-huh.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 So, um, yeah.
spk_0 And they all had the same robe.
spk_0 Or they had the, you know, the robes, the hats.
spk_0 They were classified differently, you know, red hair, blonde hair.
spk_0 You were Buzzcut, Buzzcut, Buzzcut.
spk_0 You were all...
spk_0 Well, pick any of them.
spk_0 So they're a French school in the Purineuse Mountains in the south of France.
spk_0 And it says in terms of like some of the famous Boba Tahn students.
spk_0 It says, apart from the flamel, so Nicholas Flamel and his wife also went to Boba Tahn,
spk_0 famous ex-students of Boba Tahn included Vincent Duke,
spk_0 De Treffel Peak, who escaped the terror by casting a concealment charm on his own neck
spk_0 and pretending that his head had already been cut off.
spk_0 So he was someone I guess around French Revolution time that faked his own beheading,
spk_0 which sounds awesome.
spk_0 I want the side story about this guy.
spk_0 It sounds pretty ridiculous.
spk_0 Sounds wild.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Now there's another famous student named Luke Millfoil,
spk_0 and this is an infamous pastry maker, of course a pastry maker,
spk_0 since his last name is a type of pastry.
spk_0 Luke Millfoil, and you might notice that I had said,
spk_0 infamous pastry maker, which is not something you hear often about pastry makers,
spk_0 but he was infamous because he was a known muggle poisoner.
spk_0 He was a French wizard and a Patissier who became famous
spk_0 for deliberately poisoning muggles as a form of muggle beating.
spk_0 And I tried to do more research about this.
spk_0 This is like a one sentence throw away and a Pottermore article,
spk_0 where it's like, yeah, by the way, there was this like,
spk_0 sweetie Todd, but for pastries.
spk_0 And then we're only going to write one sentence about him.
spk_0 I'm sorry, I need 1200 pages about him yesterday.
spk_0 Come on.
spk_0 The demon pastry maker of the South of France, let's go!
spk_0 That puts a different light on Boba Tahn.
spk_0 Yeah, like, where did he learn it?
spk_0 Who was the potion teacher?
spk_0 Early on Butterfly.
spk_0 They had some characters in there.
spk_0 Right?
spk_0 Yeah, speaking of the butterflies, I'm assuming those were all CGI butterflies,
spk_0 but did they give you any sort of notes of, like,
spk_0 did they tell you like, the bow battens will come, the lull go,
spk_0 butterflies will emit, and you need to be impressed.
spk_0 Like, was there directing action given to us?
spk_0 Well, we were behind the doors.
spk_0 Like, oh, you're right, you hadn't come in yet.
spk_0 So, all four students would get the instructions of what the flies,
spk_0 and you know, you'd be like, stunned, and we love...
spk_0 We were just waiting for the drum sound outside and pumping up.
spk_0 Oh, fantastic.
spk_0 So yeah, demon pastry maker, glossing over it.
spk_0 More about Boba Tahn, apparently, in the dining chamber,
spk_0 while they would eat, wood nymphs would serenade the students during meals.
spk_0 And at Christmas time, the hull was adorned with great glittering,
spk_0 non-melting, magically non-melting ice sculptures.
spk_0 So my question for you is, if you were eating a nice French meal,
spk_0 do you think wood nymphs would make the meal better,
spk_0 or would you find it kind of annoying you want to focus on the food?
spk_0 I think we would just get our velas over too.
spk_0 Oh, okay.
spk_0 Good bad.
spk_0 Yeah, to make our meal extra spicy.
spk_0 Extra tasty.
spk_0 More enjoyable.
spk_0 Now, apparently with Boba Tahn, the students and the staffs,
spk_0 we know that they were transported by the Boba Tahn carriages,
spk_0 which apparently in French is La Corasse des Bobatons,
spk_0 and it does say citation needed on the Wikipedia,
spk_0 they have to prove that that's the French words.
spk_0 But the carriages, which were light blue and pulled by a dozen winged horses,
spk_0 apparently, that was against the rules.
spk_0 Apparently, using this big, shally form of transportation,
spk_0 went against the statute of wizarding secrecy,
spk_0 which makes sense because I feel like it would be hard to conceal them.
spk_0 What I also have learned is that the horses are a Braxton horses.
spk_0 Does that mean anything to you?
spk_0 I know nothing about horse types.
spk_0 Very good with them.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 The different breeds.
spk_0 Sure, but it's a Braxton A, B, R, A, X, A, N.
spk_0 Does anyone, is that a real type of horse?
spk_0 Is that a magical type of horse?
spk_0 Magical horse.
spk_0
spk_0 Okay, thank you very much.
spk_0 That makes sense because what we've learned,
spk_0 or what I've learned from this Wikipedia page,
spk_0 is that the Braxton horses only drank single malt whiskey,
spk_0 which seems like a little one-but-one of the places.
spk_0 Well, the one that they were all over the place then.
spk_0 Butting into each other.
spk_0 But yeah, not only do they only drink whiskey,
spk_0 but specifically, it has to be single malt whiskey.
spk_0 These are very fancy horses, apparently.
spk_0 Very pretty.
spk_0 Very starting to like bubbut more now.
spk_0 Yes.
spk_0 Is that your cup of tea whiskey?
spk_0 Is that a liquor of whiskey?
spk_0 No, not the whiskey, but you know, they had some pastry killer,
spk_0 you know, muggle, now horses drinking whiskey, what else?
spk_0 Yeah, they've got demon pastry makers,
spk_0 they've got alcoholic horses.
spk_0 It's a whole lot of fun.
spk_0 It's a beautiful student.
spk_0 Yeah, very different from the façade that they put out there.
spk_0 Now, bubbuton, when we get down to the breakdown of the word,
spk_0 it is apparently likely devised from the French bow and baton,
spk_0 which would literally translate to beautiful for bow and sticks for baton.
spk_0 So beautiful ones, sure.
spk_0 But apparently in French, if you were to translate wand,
spk_0 the more correct word is baguette,
spk_0 which I know is correct because I think that the reason
spk_0 the baguette bread has its name is because it's so long
spk_0 and they're like, oh, kind of like a wand, we'll call it a baguette.
spk_0 I've been to France many times, it's actually baguette magique.
spk_0 Oh, is that how you imagine magic?
spk_0 I guess.
spk_0 Okay, that makes sense.
spk_0 But it is baguette, you know, when I first found out,
spk_0 I was like, there's a little piece of bread.
spk_0 Like, yeah, give me your bread.
spk_0 Let's fight with a baguette.
spk_0 What do you like to put on a bit of ham and cheese?
spk_0 It feels like a parody.
spk_0 Like, if someone was writing like a French spoof, they'd be like,
spk_0 yeah, and their wands are baguettes, of course.
spk_0 But no, it's just the correct word.
spk_0 My favorite fun fact that I know about baguettes,
spk_0 because I was fortunate enough to do like a six month work rotation
spk_0 in France when I was an engineer,
spk_0 is that baguette traditional, like your classic baguette,
spk_0 is like a government protected situation where like,
spk_0 there's a specific recipe, and it only can have a certain amount
spk_0 of ingredients, and you can't charge more than like,
spk_0 whatever the official rate is.
spk_0 So when I lived there, it was like a euro and five cents.
spk_0 Like a baguette was legally not allowed to be more expensive than that.
spk_0 And I just love that I want to know in order of like the French laws,
spk_0 like what number that was decided.
spk_0 Because if that was like the second thing,
spk_0 or it was like, all right, first, we're getting rid of the monarchy, right?
spk_0 Like, yeah, we got to get rid of it way too many beheadings.
spk_0 What's next?
spk_0 Bread can't cost more than a dollar.
spk_0 Thank you, yes.
spk_0 You are correct.
spk_0 I just want to know what order, like how soon in the laws.
spk_0 But it's great.
spk_0 And they're really good and they're very tasty.
spk_0 So make sure if someone tries to charge you more,
spk_0 they're taking advantage of you being an American,
spk_0 cite the law.
spk_0 Now going on, if they were to use the more proper word for wand,
spk_0 baguette would have made sense.
spk_0 So there would have been bow baguette, which would have been great,
spk_0 or bow baguette masjique, which would have been very worthy.
spk_0 But baton could be a reference to wand,
spk_0 but according to this apparently French experts that they've cited,
spk_0 it would be more likely translated to staff,
spk_0 like kind of like moody's big staff.
spk_0 So really, it would be beautiful staff is the literal translation.
spk_0 And that's what I've got about bow baton.
spk_0 We can now move on to the Russian school,
spk_0 which is called cold of stordettes.
spk_0 But the name of the school apparently is likely derived
spk_0 from the Russian words cold of stoe.
spk_0 And then they have the surreal next to it.
spk_0 And it was misspelled when they changed the names,
spk_0 they kind of like butchered the original word.
spk_0 But it roughly translates to witchcraft.
spk_0 And then the back half would come from to vortettes,
spk_0 which means creator.
spk_0 So together it would basically kind of mean the creator of magic.
spk_0 That is the name behind the school, which is kind of cool.
spk_0 But anytime you think of the names of these schools,
spk_0 Hogwarts has nothing to do with magic.
spk_0 Like that name has nothing at all to do with magic.
spk_0 And then all the other magic schools are beautiful wand.
spk_0 And then the maker of magic.
spk_0 And then it's hog warts.
spk_0 Like it's so different.
spk_0 Doesn't this all make you want to get more Harry Potter movies,
spk_0 discovering all these different schools?
spk_0 And yeah, I mean, it feels like it could be really cool.
spk_0 Like, especially just kind of even the way that I had organized this,
spk_0 where you could start it off, it could be kind of like when you see
spk_0 like the Marvel TV show Disney plus What If,
spk_0 where it's kind of like standalone episodes,
spk_0 but then they're loosely tied together.
spk_0 You could have an episode where you just learn about Dermostrag
spk_0 and then what about Bobatown?
spk_0 Oh, you don't need a few episodes for those.
spk_0 Oh, yeah, sorry.
spk_0 You need 12 episodes.
spk_0 And it's set in the future so that you can reprise your role as Victor Crumb,
spk_0 who is now come back to be the headmaster and everybody likes him.
spk_0 He's way better than Carcarov.
spk_0 Popular all around the world.
spk_0 Yeah, I think it could work really well.
spk_0 But yeah, I agree.
spk_0 Like, there's enough like out there where you could learn more of that.
spk_0 It would be fun to learn more about these worlds and we'll continue to do so
spk_0 while we still have the time.
spk_0 Now, students from Coldovsterets played a version of Quidditch
spk_0 where instead of flying on brooms made out of trees,
spk_0 they flew on entire uprooted trees.
spk_0 So apparently they would uproot an entire tree and fly on it.
spk_0 And honestly, that sounds right up Victor Crumb's alley.
spk_0 It's interesting.
spk_0 Just like yank it up.
spk_0 Yep.
spk_0 We.
spk_0 This is my crew now.
spk_0 The Nimbus 2000 is a, well, the Nimbus 2022 now.
spk_0 Right.
spk_0 Wouldn't go plucking trees out the forest.
spk_0 I could just see them like ripping it on the carving.
spk_0 Like Nimbus 5000 into the tree.
spk_0 So now we're going to move on to Castulo Bruxo, which is the Brazilian school.
spk_0 Now, the name of the school is derived from the Portuguese words,
spk_0 Castulo, which means castle, and Bruxo, which means wizard.
spk_0 And it literally means wizard castle.
spk_0 So the wizard school is named wizard school.
spk_0 Very cool.
spk_0 Love that Hogwarts is called wizard school.
spk_0 If it was called wizard school school of which crafted wizardry,
spk_0 I don't know if it would have sold as many copies.
spk_0 Now, apparently the pronunciation of Castulo Bruxo is Castello Bruxo.
spk_0 So I've been saying it wrong.
spk_0 I speak very little Portuguese.
spk_0 And by that, I know that Sim Siam is yes.
spk_0 Because every now and then Portuguese people will chew it about Potterless.
spk_0 And they'll say nice things.
spk_0 And then I'll just say Sim with an exclamation point.
spk_0 Now, this pronunciation apparently conforms to the original Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation.
spk_0 It says that Castulo Bruxo's castle was an imposing square edifice of a golden rock.
spk_0 And it was often compared to a temple.
spk_0 And the school was bewitched to appear like ruins to Muggles,
spk_0 so same kind of thing as Hogwarts.
spk_0 And that would also be protected by a authentic Brazilian mythical beast called the Kipora,
spk_0 which is like a fuzzy wilderness wooden imp.
spk_0 That apparently has, you know, legitimate like Brazilian roots is like a fairy tale.
spk_0 Sounded really interesting.
spk_0 It was implied to be at least as old as Hogwarts over a thousand years,
spk_0 due to the fact that both castles had been enchanted since their beginnings,
spk_0 and they did the same sort of ruined situation.
spk_0 Now, here's where we get into a very funny situation.
spk_0 While Castulo Bruxo's Pottermore entry implies that the institution is just as old as Hogwarts,
spk_0 the Portuguese colonization of Brazil only started in the 16th century.
spk_0 This suggests that the school may have been founded by indigenous peoples
spk_0 some 500 years before colonization,
spk_0 when the country was a vast region populated by thousands of tribes of different ethnicities.
spk_0 The Portuguese name might therefore be a byproduct of the Marquis of Pumballs,
spk_0 1758 ban of Brazilian indigenous languages.
spk_0 I feel like this is giving lots of credit to JK Rowling that she did not consider.
spk_0 I think she just messed up dates.
spk_0 However, I want to know about the school founded by the various indigenous tribes.
spk_0 That sounds really cool, right?
spk_0 It sounds like full of history.
spk_0 That feels like that could be really interesting.
spk_0 How did these different tribes come together to found the school?
spk_0 Imagine all the rituals going on.
spk_0 Yes, yes.
spk_0 And they kept the traditional.
spk_0 Exactly.
spk_0 I love it.
spk_0 It could be like Dermchen where you folks from all over from different countries,
spk_0 they're all bringing different culture to the mix.
spk_0 That could be the same here.
spk_0 And I do think it would be funny if they had a way better name for the school
spk_0 that had some sort of meaning behind it.
spk_0 And then the Portuguese came in and they were like magic school.
spk_0 That's what we'll call it.
spk_0 And that's why the name sucks.
spk_0 Now, there's two other things and then we'll move on to Q&A.
spk_0 First off, during Armando Dipett's tenure at Hogwarts,
spk_0 so one of the old Hogwarts headmasters,
spk_0 apparently during his tenure, he was visited by Benedita Dorado,
spk_0 who was the headmistress of Castula Brucho,
spk_0 and when Dipett complained about the antics of Peeves, the poltergeist,
spk_0 Dorado offered to send him some of these kaipora
spk_0 to show him, quote, what trouble really is,
spk_0 and get rid of Peeves.
spk_0 And thankfully, Dipett rejected this offer.
spk_0 He's like, I find Peeves annoying,
spk_0 but I do not want to expel him from the school.
spk_0 He's got too many fun gaps that I like from time to time.
spk_0 Final note, which I totally forgot,
spk_0 Bill Weasley apparently had a penpal who attended that school,
spk_0 or at least in the books it said he had a penpal from a Brazilian school.
spk_0 He wanted Bill to participate in a student exchange program,
spk_0 but the Weasley family couldn't afford the trip,
spk_0 which is really sad, and it makes me confused
spk_0 that the school wouldn't have funded this.
spk_0 Like Hogwarts has free tuition already,
spk_0 so I don't understand why they couldn't make something happen there.
spk_0 Now, when he rejected this offer,
spk_0 the penpal from Brazil got really offended regardless,
spk_0 and he sent Bill a cursed hat,
spk_0 which made his ears shrivel up,
spk_0 which feels completely unjustified.
spk_0 I'm sure Bill explained, like,
spk_0 I'm sorry my family doesn't have the funds to afford this.
spk_0 Let's just, that sounds terrifying.
spk_0 But that is all we have about the Brazilian Magic School,
spk_0 Magic School, and that's going to end this episode of Potter List for now,
spk_0 but we're going to move on to Q&A.
spk_0 Oh, they're past, Mike.
spk_0 We got to pump the brakes for a little bit.
spk_0 We got to take a quick breather here for Wingardio Matrydosa.
spk_0 Hey, I'm glad you're here.
spk_0 Thank you so much for sticking around for not just this episode,
spk_0 but also for the Wingardio Matrydosa section.
spk_0 So I've already talked about the Potter List Live show stuff coming to you
spk_0 in Kansas City, and St. Louis as part of Enchanteconn Providence.
spk_0 But I'm also doing some live shows for the New Olympian in the near future.
spk_0 That's my Percy Jackson podcast on June 29th,
spk_0 Albion Salt Lake City on August 14th,
spk_0 Albion St. Louis, Missouri, and September 28th,
spk_0 Albion Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
spk_0 Those are all in 2025 in case you're listening to this,
spk_0 and you're thinking, no way, this is an old episode.
spk_0 Nope, we're still posting stuff, baby.
spk_0 So if you want to get tickets to those shows, I think I also have the link to those
spk_0 at Potterlipspacas.com such a life, but you can also go to the new
spk_0 sylopeon.com such a life, or my personal website,
spk_0 shoes, s-e-u-b.es, such a tour.
spk_0 And you can get tickets for those shows.
spk_0 They're going to be super fun. I'm so stoked.
spk_0 And I'm also stoked for the half TNO, half Potterlips shows that we've got going on.
spk_0 We've also been uploading a bunch of stuff to the Potterlips YouTube channel recently.
spk_0 I have a production intern for the summer named Stephen,
spk_0 who is part of the reason why we're able to get more of these audio episodes up.
spk_0 But Stephen's been doing a bunch of video work as well,
spk_0 so I'm posting old tour vlogs.
spk_0 I put up two videos so far at this time of recording.
spk_0 We're posting a bunch of stuff from the 2022 shows, so that's been really fun.
spk_0 And then also if you are a Google podcasts, YouTube Music Podcast listener,
spk_0 we've been actually updating that audio feed there, so you can listen to the podcast there.
spk_0 I've mentioned the Patreon. It still does have all the Potterlips stuff on it.
spk_0 If you go to patreon.com such Potterlips, you can join the,
spk_0 oh, I just want the Potterlips stuff tier.
spk_0 And for four bucks a month, you can get access to everything we ever posted on the Potterlips Patreon.
spk_0 We had it running for five years as the Potterlips Patreon.
spk_0 There were bonus episodes, bonus videos, and directors, commentaries, and notes,
spk_0 and live streams and all this other stuff.
spk_0 So if you want to check that out, you can you can join and then watch all the stuff
spk_0 and then leave within a month. I don't care. Do whatever you want.
spk_0 I'm not your mom, but you can do that.
spk_0 You can also still get Potterlips podcast digital merch at Potterlipspigas.com
spk_0 such merch. You can get wallpapers and past live shows and ringtones and all sorts of goofy stuff.
spk_0 All right, I'm going to go. You're going to hear words from a few sponsors
spk_0 to make it feasible for me to be a full-time podcaster.
spk_0 Some of them will be read by me and others of them won't be.
spk_0 The ones that aren't read by me are inserted locally.
spk_0 If you live in not America, they might be in not English, but once it's as complete,
spk_0 we'll continue this episode of Potteros, which is Q&A, which is very fun.
spk_0 So question about Harry Potter and also your new podcast in the US Olympian.
spk_0 And your new podcast, you're talking a lot about what godly parent instead of what Hogwarts house.
spk_0 Could you assign a godly parent to maybe our main trio or maybe Victor Crumb,
spk_0 some of the characters that you talk about?
spk_0 So I'm doing a podcast called the News Olympian about the Percy Jackson books
spk_0 and the Percy Jackson books are all Greek God.
spk_0 So who would you say if Victor Crumb was the child of a Greek God or goddess?
spk_0 Who do you think his godly parent would be?
spk_0 Probably Zeus.
spk_0 Zeus?
spk_0 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
spk_0 Little, you know, old Faisal Ergen, you know, I could see it in main character vibes.
spk_0 Quite powerful as well.
spk_0 I could see Areas as well, the God of War, you know.
spk_0 Also, yeah, did some fighting in the mix.
spk_0 As far as I guess I'll go with like the main trio, Harry.
spk_0 I would say with Harry, I would incline to pick Poseidon just because in the Percy Jackson books,
spk_0 the main character also has the Poseidon godly parent and a little bit of the sassiness there.
spk_0 And I think Harry and Percy have some similarities.
spk_0 I would say the no brainer Hermione would be Athena because all about wisdom.
spk_0 That's totally classic.
spk_0 And then Ron is an interesting one because he could go a lot of different directions.
spk_0 I could see, I could see Ron being Hermies, you know, little bit of like trick-synis.
spk_0 And you know, he has some of his clever moments from time to time.
spk_0 I'm trying to think of anyone else though that.
spk_0 Well, no, and you know, Ron likes to eat a lot of food.
spk_0 He's got that fast acting metabolism.
spk_0 Hermies, that could hold true.
spk_0 So those are my godly parents already.
spk_0 Thank you so much for your question.
spk_0 Hi, I just want to say kind of Mike because I actually learned about LeakyCon from listening to Potter List.
spk_0 Oh, hear that LeakyCon.
spk_0 He's inviting me. I'm doing my good job.
spk_0 So my question was about, I had heard that there was actually a deleted scene in the Deathly Hollows
spk_0 where Crumb comes back and kind of stirs up the love triangle between Crumb, Hermione and Ron.
spk_0 So did you have fun getting to kind of shoot that and kind of come back into the Potter verse after being away for a few years?
spk_0 Oh, yeah, that was good fun.
spk_0 Now, you know, the scene was Bill and Flur's wedding.
spk_0 And Victor Crumb was meant to come and deliver, you know, the information to Harry, the war is about to begin.
spk_0 And we know all that.
spk_0 But David Yates, so with the chemistry that we had with Emma, and he was like,
spk_0 let's make a little extra story into this.
spk_0 So Victor Crumb, like I literally did when I came back, I went and I was like, Hermione comes with me.
spk_0 And he really liked the idea. He was like, all right, let's steal Hermione from Ron and, you know, make him super jealous.
spk_0 So we had an extra dance. We were dancing right next to the Love Goods, which was really good fun.
spk_0 You know, they were doing those really interesting moves and then we were very professional next to them.
spk_0 And Crumb in the books doesn't like the Love Goods. So there's X, there's another layer.
spk_0 Yeah, but it was really interesting, you know, the dad, Xenophilics.
spk_0 Yeah, Xenophilics. He was really into, you know, he was really enjoying it.
spk_0 So with it, this, it wasn't really a love triangle. I mean, we kicked Ron of, you know.
spk_0 It was a love straight line and I had to have the side.
spk_0 It was a statement by Crumb. He came back, he said, you may have her now, but you know, this is my time, so you can wait.
spk_0 Talk her back. And yeah, unfortunately, we didn't see that in the end.
spk_0 I think it is a deleted scene on the one of the movies, I think, because I feel like I've seen a video of you doing some of the dancing before.
spk_0 A little bit. Yeah, I saw a little bit of it.
spk_0 Lost a time, but, you know, maybe it was great. You know, it was an extended scene.
spk_0 You know, Victor was helping fighting the dementors off, which would have been interesting.
spk_0 Yeah, that's fun. But yeah, unfortunately, it didn't make. I mean, it was a wedding in the middle of a very dark, seven film.
spk_0 Right. So they decided, can't have too much fun. We need to be sad.
spk_0 Well, it was building up to the final battle. So, you know, having a wedding in the middle of that, a big feasty party didn't quite...
spk_0 Well, it fitted for us. You know, for the final cut, for sure.
spk_0 I only found out in the cinema, by the way. That's brutal. That should be illegal.
spk_0 They should have to send you a note that's like, we know you're looking forward to this.
spk_0 I was with my friends and, you know, waiting for the scene to come up. And then he never came up.
spk_0 And they were like, I was like, we did film.
spk_0 Oh, yeah. Thank you for your question.
spk_0 Hello. Hello.
spk_0
spk_0 Sorry for this, Mike.
spk_0 A similar kind of question.
spk_0 You're probably... Yeah, very nice.
spk_0 If there is a moment for Victor Crum and Godlet of Fire that maybe didn't make it into the movie, something that was filmed, something in the book for each of you, that would have given Victor Crum something that he deserved.
spk_0 What would you put into Godlet of Fire, the movie?
spk_0 Oh, put the entire Quidditch tournament, you know, the proper, you know, him showing off his skills and, you know, just seeing the Quidditch.
spk_0 We didn't really see any of the Quidditch. We saw the star then the end.
spk_0 Right. I was very surprised when I watched the movie and I was like, so much hype, so much hype.
spk_0 All right. Here comes the Quidditch and flashed to white and it's over.
spk_0 It felt as a point. And it wasn't like something where like you filmed it and then they just didn't put it in.
spk_0 Like you never know. It wasn't filmed at all.
spk_0 Unfortunately. Well, now I think that's a good idea.
spk_0 I think you know, it would have been nice to actually see a little more of that Quidditch atmosphere and, you know, see why he is the world's best Quidditch seeker and, you know, an international player chased by all the girls.
spk_0 Even like... Yes, more scenes of people chasing after me. I think that's what we need.
spk_0 We do see a little bit of him doing tricks on the broomstick.
spk_0 Right. But far from what I would have loved to have seen him.
spk_0 I think if I was going to add something, one thing I really appreciated from the book was that you have this idea of who Crumb is.
spk_0 You think, oh, he's this big hot shot. He's internationally famous. And then I thought what was a really cool reveal is that he is more than that.
spk_0 He is a nice person. He wants to take her money to the dance. He doesn't care that she's not popular or anything like that.
spk_0 And I think having more of that in the movie would have been cool, especially because that library.
spk_0 Yeah, the library is.
spk_0 Yes. I would have definitely added that.
spk_0 You know, it would have been probably a little creepy as well.
spk_0 Just imagine, you know, a stalker, you know, behind the foot. She's over there.
spk_0 But I think especially the way that they had you portrayed is, you know, you're intimidating and the buzz cut and the scowl and the dramatic music.
spk_0 I think that would have been such a fun dichotomy of it.
spk_0 It's so intense, but he also like, oh, he has a softer side. Oh, Victor.
spk_0 We kind of so we kind of see that side of him when, you know, he sees Hermione for the first time.
spk_0 That's true.
spk_0 Now, Mr. Heros, he's like completely different, you know, in another funny mood. He's like,
spk_0 Oh, mm-hmm.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 And then he goes back to, you know, popping showing off. Can't let anyone see that I have emotions.
spk_0 Awesome. Thank you so much for your question.
spk_0 Hi.
spk_0 Hello.
spk_0 My question is not Harry Potter related, but just general.
spk_0 If you were to create your dream concert, dead or alive, who's the headliner?
spk_0 Oh, dream concert, who's going to be the band that you pick for the dream.
spk_0 Maybe Manor?
spk_0 Who is it?
spk_0 It's a heavy metal band.
spk_0 Oh, okay.
spk_0 We're actually, I recently was told by my mom that they have remastered a few songs by Queen.
spk_0 Oh, interesting.
spk_0 They're like unreleased.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 And they are, you know, they will be releasing a new album.
spk_0 So Queen would be, that could be really fun.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 That's a good one.
spk_0 I think if I was going to pick the dream, I would, I've never got the chance to see the Beastie boys.
spk_0 Bring Freddie Mercury back.
spk_0 Oh, bring Freddie Mercury back.
spk_0 Yeah, that's really, it's a solid choice.
spk_0 I would pick the Beastie boys.
spk_0 I never got to see them live.
spk_0 And once one of their members passed, they were just like, we're not performing anymore.
spk_0 We're done.
spk_0 So being able to see them, I think, would have been a bigger one.
spk_0 Just love their stuff growing up.
spk_0 Still do.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Thank you for your question.
spk_0 Hi, yeah.
spk_0 And we were talking a little bit about other countries and finding out about the magic.
spk_0 And I'm a big, big, history nerd.
spk_0 Like, I would be the one who would stay awake in history of magic.
spk_0 And I was wondering, what would be your favorite or favorite country or more interested country
spk_0 to find out the etymology of history of magic, basically?
spk_0 Like, I've always been very interested about ancient Greece.
spk_0 I thought that'd be amazing for magic development.
spk_0 But like, what about you guys?
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 I would go with ancient Egypt.
spk_0 Oh, good one.
spk_0 Good one.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Like the deep ancient Egypt, you know, the faros.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Bronze age, 5000 BC kind of area.
spk_0 That seems good.
spk_0 I think I would pick Finland because when I started Potterless, I had no idea that there would be like a big international
spk_0 listenership.
spk_0 And I had no idea that like Finland would be the fifth most popular country.
spk_0 Tiny little Finland was like always this like heavily listened to audience.
spk_0 And I just feel like I owe it to them to know more about their country and their culture.
spk_0 Eventually, I want to be able to visit just COVID made that hard.
spk_0 But I'm just intrigued, especially with a Derm strength potentially being in Finland or at least in that area,
spk_0 I think it would be cool.
spk_0 And then you get, you know, some of the North mythology up in there, some of the like Viking kind of stuff.
spk_0 So I think that would be very interesting just because I want to know more about that country because they've clearly shown love to me.
spk_0 So I want to reciprocate.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Thank you.
spk_0 Thank you for your question.
spk_0 Those are your phone.
spk_0 What other YA novels are you considering for future podcasts when you finish the newer?
spk_0 Got it.
spk_0 Otherwise, here's so obviously the Percy Jackson books, which I'm currently doing.
spk_0 There's so many of those that I think I'm probably set for a while, which is good.
spk_0 My boss me loves the job security of it.
spk_0 So as far as I don't, I've definitely like been suggested lots of other YA stuff, but I don't really have one that's like leading the pack.
spk_0 The one that I like would consider if, you know, I eventually do run out of stuff to do for Percy Jackson.
spk_0 And I want to make another podcast like this.
spk_0 I think I would go slightly different than YA novels, but would go more towards a YA series and do Avatar the Last Airbender.
spk_0 Just because I hadn't watched any of that, I'm very much a baby to anything in the like, you know, Manga, anime, space.
spk_0 I've read and watched a little bit of stuff here and there.
spk_0 And I know people really like that fandom and there's a lot of stuff.
spk_0 So I think that would be my pick, you know, in 12 years when I run out of Percy Jackson stuff.
spk_0 I think that's the top choice for me.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Cool. Thank you.
spk_0 All right. So when we were just talking about the different schools and how they transported part of the school to Hogwarts,
spk_0 maybe think about other fun, different magical transportation ways.
spk_0 So if each of you were a headmaster of your own school, what would your school's transportation be to get to Hogwarts?
spk_0 All right. Transportation method for your school.
spk_0 If I was headmaster, we would master the wormhole transportation.
spk_0 Ooh.
spk_0 I think that would be very interesting to be very useful.
spk_0 Cosmic.
spk_0 And then here we are.
spk_0 I think that's pretty cool.
spk_0 I think it's just, you know, to see the journey inside the wormhole.
spk_0 And we'd just be able to travel anywhere in no time.
spk_0 Yeah. I think that's a really fun one.
spk_0 I'm trying to think, if I have to pick like an established magical thing that we already know about,
spk_0 I think festivals are super cool, just like flying on, you know, Bony ponies is a good time.
spk_0 Like really, really just like, no, yeah, no, minor.
spk_0 They are, they are staying sober so that they fly straight.
spk_0 I think festivals is like a cool vibe to have.
spk_0 If I was trying to do something like completely different though and do it, I feel like,
spk_0 if we all rode in on a giant tandem bicycle, like we're just all,
spk_0 everybody wants to eat after the other, I think that could be a really powerful entrance.
spk_0 I just had an idea.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 We could fly in on flying carpets.
spk_0 That would be interesting.
spk_0 That would be a fun one.
spk_0 Like this thing wished, especially designed.
spk_0 Yeah, of course, of course.
spk_0
spk_0 They have your question.
spk_0 They're illegal.
spk_0 Uh-oh.
spk_0 Not in dumb strung.
spk_0 Not it, not it, not it, not it.
spk_0 Not it.
spk_0 Not it stands school for magic folk.
spk_0 Hello.
spk_0 Hello.
spk_0 My question is related to my costume.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 You know, Mike, you're not a pet person, but if you could have a magical pet,
spk_0 what would each of you choose?
spk_0 Oh, if you could have a magical pet, what would you choose?
spk_0 I would choose, um,
spk_0 Derby doesn't count as a pet does he?
spk_0 No.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 It's a whole messy, uh, debate we could get into for an hour.
spk_0 We're gonna, let's just say no.
spk_0 I mean a house elf, but you know, that wouldn't be a pet.
spk_0 Uh, a niffler.
spk_0 A niffler.
spk_0 I would love a niffler.
spk_0 Mm-hmm.
spk_0 Just a little niffler or sniffing around and, mm-hmm.
spk_0 I don't have to think.
spk_0 I would definitely,
spk_0 I think one that would be cute, I know there's,
spk_0 it's the crop, the like dog with a little fork tail.
spk_0 I think that is very cute,
spk_0 but I do worry about a dog being old to high maintenance.
spk_0 Um, I do, I do appreciate,
spk_0 um, in Sparbury F it as well,
spk_0 Newt's commander is a little bow trucker.
spk_0 I like that it's a, like, uh, it's a,
spk_0 it's a plant and it's also a pet
spk_0 and it's also a friend and it's also a cute accessory.
spk_0 So I think just the versatility of the bow trucker is really nice
spk_0 and I also appreciate a pet that like,
spk_0 it's really angry and can defend you.
spk_0 Like they can gouge out the eyes of people that have wronged their owner.
spk_0 So, um, I'm very big on someone that's gonna step up for me
spk_0 and in a pinch, like in addition to all these things,
spk_0 is also like a tiny little bodyguard.
spk_0 So yeah, I think bow trucker would be my,
spk_0 would be my selection.
spk_0 Thank you for your question.
spk_0 This is a question from my friend.
spk_0 What do we think happened to crumb after like the entire series
spk_0 and then like, do we think Hermione invited him
spk_0 to her and Ron's wedding?
spk_0 Um, um, talk about a love triangle.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Or do we think you just disappeared
spk_0 out the face of the earth and never wishing again?
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 Do you think Hermione and Crumb stayed in touch?
spk_0 She stayed close enough to be at the wedding?
spk_0 I don't see why not.
spk_0 I mean, we know that Ron was a huge crumb fan.
spk_0 That's true as he was before.
spk_0 And why wouldn't you want a superstar attend your wedding?
spk_0 Even though he's your future wife's first love.
spk_0 So I think they might invite him.
spk_0 You know, the gentleman crumb is he would attend happily
spk_0 with a few beautiful boobattons maybe,
spk_0 just to show Ron what he might be missing out on.
spk_0 I could, I could definitely see Hermione and Crumb staying in touch
spk_0 and I could definitely see being one of those things where
spk_0 Hermione keeps asking around like, are you sure you'll get with this?
spk_0 He's like, I totally am and then he's like, I'm not a curfewer.
spk_0 Like, he inside hates it but he keeps saying like, no, no, it's fine.
spk_0 He would get his autograph.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Yeah, he would.
spk_0 And it would be a nice conversation.
spk_0 Can you imagine, you know, the wedding, like, oh, do you remember back in the days?
spk_0 You were boring, you were wearing those robes.
spk_0 Oh, oh, oh.
spk_0 Oh, throw them off.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Thank you for your question.
spk_0 All right.
spk_0 So mine is kind of related from the other panel.
spk_0 I asked about Kirschchild and all of that.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 Harry's son.
spk_0 He's got a million names.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 And how do you guys feel that Hagrid isn't one of them?
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 So his name is, it's, what is it?
spk_0 Albus.
spk_0 Albus Cerverus Potter.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 I do think it's funny that of all the names that Harry could have chosen for his kid.
spk_0 Given all the, like, lovely, lovely father figures, role models, et cetera, he picks the two
spk_0 people who manipulated him for multiple years.
spk_0 Like, oh, yeah, this guy who would help him information from me.
spk_0 And this guy who hated me for so much of his life.
spk_0 And then at the very end, I was like, all right, he's fine.
spk_0 I guess his eyes.
spk_0 So I think it was a terrible decision.
spk_0 I agree with you.
spk_0 I feel like naming him, like, Remus Rubius Potter is the correct answer.
spk_0 Or some, or at least some other, like, gets, you know, you can get serious.
spk_0 Like, there's so many other choices that don't involve Snape and Dumbledore.
spk_0 And those are all the guys that was trying to, like, get his mom for, like, his entire life.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Super weird.
spk_0 The other thing that I didn't notice, I think someone sent me, like, either a Tik Tok or Instagram
spk_0 videos, that, like, all of the names utilized for all of Harry and Ginny's kids are all
spk_0 Harry choices.
spk_0 Like, no one's named after Ruizli.
spk_0 No one's named after anyone who's important in Ginny's life.
spk_0 It's just like all the names, first name, middle name, even the girl or name and
spk_0 thereafter, my mom, like, everything is like me, me, me, me, me.
spk_0 And then Ginny's like, oh, I guess I'm here too.
spk_0 Like, not a fan of it.
spk_0 I don't know if you have any questions.
spk_0 I'm interested in that.
spk_0 They had three.
spk_0
spk_0 Four, maybe, two, um, well, yeah, it's like, Ginny, you can name the fourth kid.
spk_0 Only if his middle name is Hagrid.
spk_0 Right.
spk_0 Yeah, I agree with you, poor decision on the naming front.
spk_0 Thank you for your question.
spk_0 Got time for just like, I think we'll do these two and then what got it?
spk_0 If you guys had a favorite character, who would it be?
spk_0 Okay, a favorite character.
spk_0 Is it Crom?
spk_0 And if it is, I think you should pick a second one.
spk_0 There it is.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 My second favorite.
spk_0 You know, when I get asked which character I would love to try and play, that would be Snape.
spk_0 Who?
spk_0 You know, I love the energy and, you know, the mystery that he carries throughout the entire films.
spk_0 And he's a really cool character to play.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Complex.
spk_0 Obviously, I think Alan Rickman was, you know, Snape himself.
spk_0 Right.
spk_0 I don't think anyone could ever play a better version of Snape.
spk_0 You could do a different version of it.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 But it depends on, you know, Nordic mountain.
spk_0 Oh, Snape's been working out.
spk_0 Oh.
spk_0 I think for me, my answer to this is always Ginny.
spk_0 I genuinely find her to be like inspirational of where I try to fit in life, which is like knowing
spk_0 when to be funny, but knowing when to be serious.
spk_0 I feel like Ginny kind of towed that line of like, I'll be sentimental and emotional or like, I'll make fun of Harry for being, you know, a dunce.
spk_0 So I think like being able to tow that is something that I sometimes struggle with of, you know, not everything is jokes and laughs.
spk_0 Like, sometimes you gotta, you know, be there for someone and just drop all the facade of humor.
spk_0 So that's my favorite answer.
spk_0 I like that she kind of knows that.
spk_0 Thank you for your question.
spk_0 All right.
spk_0 Last question.
spk_0 And then we'll go.
spk_0 Hi, discussion is for Stanislaus.
spk_0 So this is my first leaky con.
spk_0 And when I saw your name on the guest list, I was like, I'm googling and refreshing my memory with Victor.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 So it's just I just want to bring up.
spk_0 I don't know if this was asked to you in previous events, but there was this certain article that says that it's kind of sad for Victor,
spk_0 come that in, you know, in the trivist hard cop, he's the only one that is not close to the one that he needs to save in the lake, because he just met Hermione, right in the school.
spk_0 But then the others are like the best friend for Harry and the sister for the ball baton.
spk_0 So what's your personal opinion on that?
spk_0 Is it kind of sad for him that it happened that Hermione was the chosen one and they just met?
spk_0 Well, that just shows what kind of wonderful person Victor Kromase is.
spk_0 You know, Hermione becoming his most precious person, you know, to go and save just proves that he wasn't playing around with her, you know, there were feelings involved.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Yeah, kind of sad that it wasn't his sister or his brother or someone else, but you know, I think it's it has a unique energy, a unique feel that it was Hermione herself.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Because, you know, I've heard a lot of accusations against Krom, you know, being a little bit older and Hermione being a bit younger and, you know, from Hogwarts and Dada Dada.
spk_0 But, you know, this proves that he was real, you know, towards her.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 He wasn't mucking him out.
spk_0
spk_0 I kind of like that.
spk_0 I was expecting that you would answer that.
spk_0 It's just made me realize that, yeah, Krom is really one of my biggest crush in the movie.
spk_0 That's awesome.
spk_0 Yes, all right.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 I kind of like, I'm imagining a fanfiction where like Krom, you know, his whole life, he was so dedicated to Quidditch and they were just training him and training him and his maybe his parents or his coach or his trainer.
spk_0 Whoever was like, you got to focus no girls.
spk_0 You can only focus on this.
spk_0 And then like he finally gets to meet Hermione and that's kind of like his eye opening like, oh, there's other people.
spk_0 So maybe he had like a very isolating life before.
spk_0 Maybe she gave him a different feeling.
spk_0 Exactly.
spk_0 He discovers the feeling of love.
spk_0 Yeah, it was like love is silly.
spk_0 It's only a distraction and then he meets Hermione.
spk_0 He's like, actually, love is great.
spk_0 And I'm very interested.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 All right.
spk_0 We're going to go, we're going to go write this whole story backstage.
spk_0 Thank you for the inspiration.
spk_0 But no, we're going to go.
spk_0 Thank you all so much for coming out.
spk_0 Give it up for a stand-up for being an amazing, amazing guest.
spk_0
spk_0 This was super fun.
spk_0 If you were one of the folks who wasn't familiar with Potters who wanted to check it out, did a lot of very fun episodes.
spk_0 I did book stuff, I did movie stuff, I did spin-off stuff.
spk_0 I've got stuff from Leaky Conds with some of the other folks here.
spk_0 You can search for Potters, whoever you get your podcasts.
spk_0 We've got something going on the main siege here in a little bit that I will be here for as well.
spk_0 The kind of send-off thing.
spk_0 But speaking of send-offs, I'm going to send off this Potters, this live is the way that I always did with every single episode.
spk_0 The phrase that they definitely say all the time in the books that classic catchphrase.
spk_0 What is it on?
