spk_0 Well, we've got a long story to tell about that.

spk_0 Oh, sweet Lord.

spk_0 So when my good buddy, Stephanie over here,

spk_0 so that she wanted to invite each of us

spk_0 to pick a show that had been previously covered

spk_0 on the podcast and do a bit of a retrospective on it.

spk_0 Basically, revisit it and see if our thoughts

spk_0 and opinions had changed on it over the years.

spk_0 I was really racking my brain for what to pick for my pick

spk_0 because each of the hosts got to pick one for each of the months.

spk_0 And it really came down to one thing I thought,

spk_0 there's been this running theme in our episodes

spk_0 and in our friend's circle, really,

spk_0 where I have been putting off, for a while,

spk_0 I put off watching this show

spk_0 and even longer talking about it.

spk_0 And it dawned on me,

spk_0 hmm, this would actually be a lot of fun to finally cover.

spk_0 I just need the right excuse for it.

spk_0 So here's your excuse.

spk_0 Because part of the thing with the retrospective project

spk_0 is I was like, hey, if you all want to go back

spk_0 and cover something cool,

spk_0 that you previously hosted, cool.

spk_0 But if it's before a host,

spk_0 if it's something that you weren't previously on

spk_0 or something you want to cover,

spk_0 just let me know.

spk_0 And I'm willing to make an exception.

spk_0 Noah is one of those exceptions

spk_0 because he was not on the original episodes for this

spk_0 because there's actually two.

spk_0 This is the third time we're talking about this show.

spk_0 They are, which is going way back in the day.

spk_0 I was not on the original early broadcast discussion

spk_0 because this particular show was actually talked about

spk_0 in a group of three actually,

spk_0 of two other series together

spk_0 because they were part of the very early broadcast dubs

spk_0 that Funimation,

spk_0 Rest in Peace,

spk_0 was doing back in 2015 when the show originally came out.

spk_0 And then that kind of led to her pulling in Megan

spk_0 and Space Man Hardy to be part of a group discussion

spk_0 on those dubs,

spk_0 which kind of snowballed into the 10-year podcast

spk_0 with other hosts and other series we've covered

spk_0 that you're listening to now.

spk_0 Yep.

spk_0 And that particular series is Megan,

spk_0 please do be the honors of reading the title card

spk_0 Yes, this is a particularly show that I knew I had to finally cover

spk_0 because not only is it something that our good friend Megan

spk_0 here is a big fan of,

spk_0 but she had been trying to get me to watch it for a very long time.

spk_0 And for the longest time, I evaded it.

spk_0 She forgot to bring the disc with her to a couple of conventions.

spk_0 Oh, that's right.

spk_0 So I just had to watch it.

spk_0 I forgot that.

spk_0 It was a great gift.

spk_0 It was a great yoga god.

spk_0 There's a vlog from after yoga con 2016 on this channel you can find

spk_0 where we go through.

spk_0 I forgot that was a thing.

spk_0 But in the end, Megan won me over because,

spk_0 well, mostly because she actually ended up sending me the show.

spk_0 She sent me the LE of the whole season,

spk_0 which meant, well, I have no excuse not to watch it.

spk_0 Yeah, you have the nice box, but it's the art book from it

spk_0 because I stole that from you.

spk_0 I was like, I'll give you the DVDs.

spk_0 I want the book.

spk_0 And thank you for that because that was, again,

spk_0 it's not like it didn't want to watch the show.

spk_0 It's just that the long running joke of evading it

spk_0 was just a joke that I wanted to keep going as long as possible.

spk_0 I ripped that padded off a couple years ago and gave it a rewatch

spk_0 for this episode so we can finally talk about this show.

spk_0 Hell yeah.

spk_0 Because legit, it's been, it has been actually 10 years since I watched this show.

spk_0 So for, for shits and giggles, I'm like, you know what?

spk_0 I owe a rewatch of this show because why the fuck not?

spk_0 To be honest, not indie.

spk_0 So Noah, so Noah, please tell us what this show is about.

spk_0 Then you've been the audience maybe listening to this.

spk_0 Maybe you haven't seen this show before,

spk_0 which we'll talk a little bit about the legacy it's last

spk_0 over the last 10 years.

spk_0 So maybe you need to refresh around what this is about.

spk_0 So in the modern world, things are going swimmingly.

spk_0 It's just a normal day.

spk_0 And then suddenly all the people over the age of 13 just collapse.

spk_0 Just total heart attack.

spk_0 The population of humanity is dropped to 90 by 90%

spk_0 to only those under 13.

spk_0 And then all of a sudden vampires.

spk_0 Yes, for some supernatural reason that we're not privy to

spk_0 till the very end of the show.

spk_0 Vampires are now part of this world.

spk_0 And they are turning the remaining humans into their own livestock.

spk_0 They are facing on them.

spk_0 They are collecting children into conclave so that they can feed off of their blood,

spk_0 which is not a whole lot of fun for anyone,

spk_0 particularly not for our main character,

spk_0 Yui Chiro and Mika and their buddies in the orphanage,

spk_0 who they decide what we're going to be family

spk_0 because we're survivors and we need to stick together.

spk_0 And so that goes all well and good for them in this vampire conclave

spk_0 until they finally decide to escape,

spk_0 which is not going really well for them

spk_0 because these vampires are the kind that are fast-moving,

spk_0 vicious, blood-sucking, do not do well with escapes.

spk_0 But luckily, Yui Chiro does escape

spk_0 and is immediately inducted into an army of remaining humans

spk_0 who are out to fight the vampires.

spk_0 Yes, he is recruited into the military.

spk_0 But unfortunately, his good buddy Mika was not able to come along.

spk_0 Sorry for spoiling the first episode,

spk_0 but our good buddy Mika has become a vampire himself.

spk_0 And so while Yui Chiro is becoming trained in the ways of fighting the vampires

spk_0 with the remaining human squadrant,

spk_0 trying to keep humanity alive,

spk_0 Mika has to fight the urges of a vampire himself,

spk_0 having to fend off the fight to suck blood

spk_0 and really grapple with his own humanity,

spk_0 all well humanity and vampire kind fight to the death

spk_0 in what will surely be the great biblical battle of all time.

spk_0 There's so much going on in this show

spk_0 that that summary, if it sounded confusing,

spk_0 wait until you actually see what's happening.

spk_0 Wait until you actually watch the show,

spk_0 it gets even more fucking confusing.

spk_0 And then there's more humonga in the white novels.

spk_0 Oh no, no, we will cover that later,

spk_0 but let's just cover the 24 episode anime series

spk_0 that aired from Studio Wit back in 2015,

spk_0 split up into two course and try to dissect

spk_0 what in the world is the series because a lot.

spk_0 There's a lot going on.

spk_0 A lot. That's what the series is.

spk_0 A lot.

spk_0 Oh my god, it's so much going on.

spk_0 But luckily we have the good fortune of a great ADR staff

spk_0 and cast members who helped translate it from Japanese into English.

spk_0 So let's give some flowers to that group, shall we?

spk_0 We're just going to kind of list off some of our favorite things

spk_0 that these actors and staff members have done in the past.

spk_0 Let's start off with the ADR director.

spk_0 This show was directed by one Jerry Jewel.

spk_0 It was script written by the one and only John Bergmeyer

spk_0 with additional script help from Monica Rial, Jeremy Krats,

spk_0 and Jesse Grille.

spk_0 Interesting history on the actual like release schedule on this,

spk_0 which I'm going to let you guys cover a little more

spk_0 because you were actually following the show as the airing, right?

spk_0 Yeah, I definitely was.

spk_0 So it is really weird is that a lot of people would consider

spk_0 this season one and season two.

spk_0 But what it is would be considered now it is was the split core.

spk_0 It was they they did.

spk_0 Part one was I think a spring,

spk_0 yeah, was a spring show in part two was a fall show.

spk_0 So basically this was back when Simon loves are probably like more like a month behind,

spk_0 month or two behind, then what they are now.

spk_0 And both seasons ran on the double talk block, which is what's that was a podcast,

spk_0 video podcast kind of like the animation did,

spk_0 where they would pick three shows a season and they would talk about we would watch

spk_0 the episodes together and then we'd talk about it in chat with Justin Robust,

spk_0 Lauren Moore and Chad James.

spk_0 And let me tell you the fountain of memes that is double talk watching this show.

spk_0 Isn't saying in fact I have my copy of part two of Sarah, which is called Battle of Nagoya,

spk_0 Side on the very yellow page by Chad James and it's a joke.

spk_0 So there's like there's a couple of little funny stories I have about just

spk_0 genuine like character stuff because I think out of all of us I'm the one who's really engaged with

spk_0 like the more of the scope of Sarah as it's been put out because a lot of people don't know that

spk_0 the ending of season two or core two, oh quite literally called the manga up to the anime up to the

spk_0 manga because it's a month it's a monthly it's not a weekly series it's a monthly series.

spk_0 And I don't even want to get into all the shit that's in there. There is angels, demons,

spk_0 human experimentation, cloning, bad bad bro behavior.

spk_0 We had a hose over a bro's moment in one of the light novels.

spk_0 I'll talk about that when we get to that character.

spk_0 But the single funniest story I think I have and it regards it is regarding the airing of this show

spk_0 is episode 21 or 20 no episode 22 which is the big gay episode.

spk_0 It's the okay it's literally called you in you in me.

spk_0 Suddenly is a solo's breakfast.

spk_0 That episode when the original Japanese airing of it went up on Funimation.com they uploaded it

spk_0 with only the music track and the effects.

spk_0 So that was no voice acting to it.

spk_0 It was just the M&E track with the subtitles.

spk_0 It was so fun I used to have a file of it.

spk_0 It is so genuinely one of my favorite stories about like shitty anime uploading.

spk_0 But I do want to get into I guess my thoughts on the double the series which is I have always

spk_0 genuinely enjoyed the double of this series and I felt it was very good it was pretty good compared

spk_0 to the Japanese. I of course am a huge fan of the actor who plays McKayla in the Japanese

spk_0 on Okensho which is a big reason I stuck around watching in Japanese too.

spk_0 I would say that there are some performances that are very hit or miss on this that I don't think.

spk_0 I think they've held up but they've held up is kind of just okay compared to some of the other

spk_0 people in this. I still adore this style. I think the stub is great and I think that's because

spk_0 of how much affection I have for the show. Because like Sarah for the End is not a series I always

spk_0 talk about but it's one of those like old reliables that I have in that like I love this series in

spk_0 spite of the hotness that it is and everybody gets one. I would like to say that I think Jerry

spk_0 Jould has a really fun job with the direction and the casting of the characters. I think that even

spk_0 when this was airing he took risks with some of the cast members. I think not all of them were

spk_0 very established. This was actually to me the show that poet who is now considered like

spk_0 one of the it's very ironic for recording this now given what show is airing its final season right

spk_0 now. Also 10 years of the making. I would say this it was very funny when we were talking about

spk_0 this kind of between us that Noah asked. Noah usually watches it with the Japanese subtitles on.

spk_0 Just like I kind of agree that the English dub of this show makes it a lot more blunt and a little

spk_0 bit more campy. But I believe Sarah for the End is also a show that kind of thrives on how

spk_0 fucking stupid it is. Um, the retro hyacchia has no brain in that head of his. It is weird and over

spk_0 the top like there's a part where a man drives in a deserted hot rod to an abandoned mall and then

spk_0 gets mad that his friend cuts it in half in a fight later. It goes from being a horrible apocalyptic

spk_0 show to like a high school like show with the secret academy to being like. Hey, it's Hacle Titans

spk_0 really hot right now let's jump on that fire to whatever fucks going on in the show to the

spk_0 storage cat literally the storage container of doom. Yeah, the literally the same studio who made

spk_0 it was. Oh, lightning struck once. Let's try to do it again. Yeah, it was like I think maybe like two

spk_0 or three years after that too, which was even funnier while Titan like you know just kind of didn't

spk_0 get a season two for like god knows how long. Yeah, I forgot about that. It took him hot minute

spk_0 before another season of Titan. And then it went over to Mappa and you know how they milked that

spk_0 shit. Just still looking at the final second half of the quintessential ending of the final final

spk_0 final season. Please, please sir may I have another. I have another season. Please sir can I have

spk_0 some more? It's very telling that there was expectations that this series may also go on for many

spk_0 seasons because that Ellie set that you sent me Megan very knowsively has season one printed on

spk_0 the box set as if to insinuate there's gonna be a season two never came. Which did not happen.

spk_0 It could. Who knows we're revamping everything these days. If we got a second season of Sarah for

spk_0 the end, I will in fact chug a bloody mark. I will make like a I will make a blunder of bloody

spk_0 Mary and chug it on camera. Please please don't. You can't stop me. They're not my dad.

spk_0 Don't do that. Just make it cool. There's nothing wrong with it. You know what I'll do it with

spk_0 cool. Because cool. It gives me the shits. Oh god. No, that's even worse. She's well.

spk_0 Trumpet of shit. So okay, so that's an interesting takeaway on kind of the legacy of the show as far

spk_0 as like you were saying. Some of the actors being newbies and some of them being just kind of okay

spk_0 picks for the roles. Stuff what's your kind of your own takeaway having revisited the series 10

spk_0 years after seeing it for the first time. Sweet Lord. Um.

spk_0 Megan might remember this. I distinctly kind of didn't exactly like the show 10 years ago

spk_0 for reasons. It was my favorite thing. Now you like it. Now you like it because you're older and

spk_0 stupider. Yes, actually. I am older and stupider. Or maybe I'm just tired. I don't. Yeah.

spk_0 That's probably very accurate, unfortunately. How was that Kingdom Hearts marathon coming by the way?

spk_0 Well, I haven't started to. I finished one month ago. I know technically you need to play.

spk_0 Technically you need to do chain of memories then you can do too. Oh fuck you.

spk_0 The chronology that series makes very little sense unless you're deep deep deep into it.

spk_0 10 years ago, Sarah was.

spk_0 Sarah was not my favorite thing compared to like a lot of other shows that were coming out at the time.

spk_0 Like I still watched it. I still like got some amount of enjoyment out of it because of how stupid

spk_0 it fucking was. And it let's be real. It is kind of. Sarah as a show and as a story is still

spk_0 really fucking stupid half the time. Um it's but it's a very earnest kind of stupid.

spk_0 You like this. Weirdly enough. Yes. Weirdly enough. Yes. That's the thing. I'm just like.

spk_0 Like that's the thing like coming back to it 10 years later. It's so weird watching it now with the

spk_0 like being in a different place in a different mindset where it's like I just wanted to have some

spk_0 stupid fun. And this is that stupid fun legit. Like I could be content with all of my

spk_0 happy like thoughtful like shows and things like that that are like very very high like

spk_0 very very strongly written in like story driven or character driven like what is some of the ones I

spk_0 what is it one of the ones I've done this year like a death parade or an origami or a fucking

spk_0 blue ball kebab front. But then when you get the Sarah I'm like this is just stupid fucking fun.

spk_0 That's really all this. That's not always accused of being deep like there certainly isn't in

spk_0 that echelon of like blood black egg battle friend like you said great example of it's also fun

spk_0 good time but it's it's kind of held in the higher critical. Correct. I think then Sarah it's much more

spk_0 it's much more it's blah blah kebab front is better written first of all has better written

spk_0 characters and narrative storyline and things like that season two kind of doesn't exactly hold

spk_0 it a candle season one obviously. But revisiting season two is just it's so weird and interesting

spk_0 I'm like I kind of got more enjoyment or with Sarah for the end this time around ironically enough

spk_0 and I do have to agree with my name in terms of the dub like it's still a solid dub now

spk_0 some of the like the directing is solid they're writing is solid on all fronts and then in terms of

spk_0 performance wise there are some solid performances there are still some that are way have been questionable

spk_0 to when you first hear them 10 years ago that are just okay or just serviceable at this point in

spk_0 the game. My brain kind of automatically goes to kameezik he is one of those performances

spk_0 um given the circumstances um and then you have some like seeing things from a entirely

spk_0 perspective because like I'm not gonna lie 10 years ago I didn't quite understand the performance

spk_0 that we were getting from mecha right I think I made that comment 10 years ago I think I get it now

spk_0 I understand what the goal was there with the performance from mecha and we'll talk about it later

spk_0 also to be fair the first the first time we did it was like an episode preview where

spk_0 it was it was an episode you never would die as an interest

spk_0 yeah it was it was only the first episode where he was a babby one and then the second time we

spk_0 talked about the show like it was kind of more of just like a general overall thoughts kind of deal

spk_0 um and I and I think I distinctly remember thinking that mechaela mechaela was okay

spk_0 like I wasn't it wasn't my favorite thing and this is compared to because not long after season

spk_0 one I believe of Sarah for the no no the other big thing was months later after season two I stand

spk_0 corrected the the big thing was 2016 not 2050 never mind I stand corrected in terms of the timeline

spk_0 um but like it's easy to get all those dates kind of mixed around in the head because it's like

spk_0 there's so much stuff sometime in the past it's an illusion no like revisiting it now I appreciate

spk_0 we're this is gonna more pertain to mecha when we get to him but I appreciate the performance a

spk_0 lot more because I I can I now understand what the goal was with it you know what I mean

spk_0 I understand it's not it's still not my favorite but I understand the goal and what the point

spk_0 of the choices that were made so I can appreciate it a lot more than I did 10 years ago it is

spk_0 my opinion of the show has changed compared to 10 years ago where I wasn't the biggest fan of it

spk_0 um so much so that I might actually be dumb and attempt to read the manga even though Megan

spk_0 has warned me it will make absolutely no fucking sense listen I need to catch up to you I know things

spk_0 because I read the wiki all I'm saying is that uh when I need to break out a flow chart to understand

spk_0 who's in what body oh great great and I say that is a player of the critically acclaimed MMO RPG

spk_0 fun of fantasy 14 where there's also a flow chart for a lot of things I can keep my OCs

spk_0 in a better order than the writing and character than like the the who is who in this series great

spk_0 but no like that's it's a hard I kind of dove more into like more specifics but like in general I

spk_0 feel like the direction and the writing are still I think both of those items for the most part

spk_0 still hold up well and the performance wise is is a mix of I agree it Megan it's still a mix of

spk_0 solid two serviceable okay at this stage and that's a good segue I think into we went from someone

spk_0 who is very passionate about the show like still writer die for it to someone who's kind of like

spk_0 warmed up more to it and then we switch over to my own opinions which is um this was an interesting

spk_0 take of a show for sure but throughout the whole thing I'm like this is not going to really you

spk_0 know strike my heart in the same way that it would for someone who's much more connected to it

spk_0 and I will fully admit that most of the reason is because I'm I just not clicking with the the

spk_0 dumb aspects of the show and that's probably fine because that means that I don't have the luxury

spk_0 of being able to enjoy it like you guys have a pleasure that I don't quite have which is not

spk_0 said I didn't enjoy a lot of the the action scenes or the the character dynamics and just the

spk_0 complete twist that happened but there's a twist in the show or something just kind of comes out

spk_0 of nowhere it was incredibly entertaining when something kind of happens off screen that you didn't

spk_0 and they just like oh this happened somewhere over there and you're supposed to just roll with it

spk_0 I'm like okay that's entertaining because that's like not how you're supposed to write a show

spk_0 and for the dub there is a whole lot of translations for tropes that I feel like the English cast had

spk_0 to work with that translated most of them pretty well there's going to be a couple of areas here where

spk_0 I agree there's some hit or miss performances as far as like how the voice they chose or the writing

spk_0 style they picked and a couple where they drastically changed from the Japanese and I think they

spk_0 actually in like it gets closer to the meaning of the character for an English speaking audience

spk_0 so not having had the benefit of being there from the very beginning of the show and

spk_0 catching up on it after it come out on home video and seeing it kind of from start to finish

spk_0 this was very clearly a trigger that Evangelion part of the brain I'll just put that out there

spk_0 right now like this show draws very heavily from neon genesis Evangelion and it's got our not

spk_0 to think about what inspired that part of it more so in second half which you got a different

spk_0 mecha show out of mind what you got even as you're mecha show I got a different one

spk_0 oh boy which one did you have oh this is Mobile Suites A to Gundam

spk_0 okay now see I thought of Ava because there's it's got the the world is nearly destroyed

spk_0 at the beginning of it it has the child characters like have to embrace the power of the thing

spk_0 that destroyed the world in the first place to fight it oh no it has a shadowy government who's

spk_0 like trying to bring about the end of the world they're trying to bring ragna rock basically

spk_0 okay that's not why I got Mobile Suites Gundam it's the character writing everybody in this show

spk_0 can be quantified down to a character and that type of show

spk_0 well we'll get it we'll put a little pit in that then and we'll get into we're gonna have a

spk_0 segment on this show it's called Megan parallels the sheriff characters to Gundam characters

spk_0 specifically to Zeta Gundam oh yeah let's go I mean if you try I want to try to do it for G Gundam

spk_0 that'd be great I don't watch G Gundam see that'll be even more entertaining then it's like I'm

spk_0 gonna try to add something to a show I've never seen before clearly you meet your

spk_0 row is a Domen Kashiw like there's no go and then you meet your row is Domen Kashiw

spk_0 I don't know who's I don't know who's the nether one's Gundam or the tequila Gundam

spk_0 giant windmill rollover no no shinny or raki would be the tequila Gundam

spk_0 no I refuse to elaborate

spk_0 excellent excellent make make people in the comments to figure out what the hell did she

spk_0 mean by that that is most people in the comments that is most of you to me on a daily basis

spk_0 yeah our discord is just full of what the heck it's like what is she talking about now don't

spk_0 ask questions what had happened so I think the kind of consensus I'm getting from everyone is that

spk_0 in here in the year of our Lord 2025 the direction the ADR direction choices that Jerry made

spk_0 was in line with what a good translation from Japanese to English should be it may not have made

spk_0 much as much sense at the time when maybe we had different expectations of the character archetypes

spk_0 but now that we kind of lived with this show for a while it's like oh no no this was absolutely

spk_0 the right translation choice to make and then just very briefly on the writing side of it I just

spk_0 want to point out that there are elements of this dub writing where they just they just make

spk_0 everything more overt like it's not like the show had subtlety to begin with but there are lines

spk_0 where there's a little bit of subtext in what characters say to express their feelings and then

spk_0 the dub they just make it more overt one line in particular there's a bit where Michaela is getting

spk_0 very upset because another character is like use my family and mika's like in the Japanese it's

spk_0 basically that's nonsense die but in the dub they change it very explicitly to know he's my family

spk_0 not yours which you know again not subtle but still it matches absolutely with what that line

spk_0 was going for and there's translation adaptations like that kind of pepper throughout the whole show

spk_0 there's also some absolute banger comedy lines um where do you eat yeah elicit sexual

spk_0 relation um where's one of my other favorite one please don't tell me I'm dead again

spk_0 or you know no you're not dead again I could have driven I'm good at it I thought you wanted

spk_0 us both to survive oh wait you're like I've been in that place I had to go to one time

spk_0 oh my god um I'm a genius oh no that's just Noah um

spk_0 I feel free to worship you as much as worship you as much as you like oh just also um

spk_0 at one point I'm not gonna get into the creepy dead coffin thing like just

spk_0 there's just so much bullshit going on the flun days and actual technique

spk_0 she knows I don't come in what she knows I don't come in while I'm showering again

spk_0 she knows I have no regard for personal space no she doesn't the show was very much written for

spk_0 horny teenager teenage voice and or which is why it's one of the greatest things I've ever read

spk_0 yeah yeah we'll get into that for sure like we're not going to sugarcoat the the exploit the

spk_0 uh joyous gay sub overtax I almost said subtext overtext that is in the show it is vampires

spk_0 the gay when the sub when the sub when the sub when the sub when the sub when the

spk_0 end has a constant question of is is this yowie oh my god oh what are you going to debate

spk_0 tech it i mean anything's a yowie if you try hard enough in the airy but i'm true

spk_0 great now with that attitude so it's pasta until it gets wet oh

spk_0 oh call me when we need because i'm about to get silly

spk_0 okay great great great great vampire entry in the vampire genre um

spk_0 but i want to suck your pasta sauce

spk_0 give me it and get so i think i am countable gorg give me your Alfredo sauce

spk_0 it's a great accent it's absolutely wonderful dialogues quick through the pasta

spk_0 against the fridge see if it sticks all right so if i'm right i believe we have basically kind of

spk_0 covered our bases on expectations of the dub's direction and writing which means we should start

spk_0 actually talking about the character for themselves so with the um uh now we could easily be here for

spk_0 all day and go over all the characters because this is a very full cast there are too many characters

spk_0 you know that's a good point i'll strip that baited off too perhaps more characters than it really

spk_0 needed not all of them get a whole lot of development they all serve a purpose of either the

spk_0 military or the vampire side of things so we're gonna try to focus in on just the ones that get the

spk_0 most development or have the most to talk about basically if there's one of your favorite characters

spk_0 and the squadron that we did not mention i apologize actually know because i want to keep this focus

spk_0 on the parts that are more pertinent to our discussion here we're going to start out with the

spk_0 military side we're gonna start with the humans uh fighting back against the vampires here

spk_0 specifically we're gonna mention uh four key people in this group key key first off we're gonna talk

spk_0 a first off we're gonna talk about gurren we're gonna talk about oh god right away aren't we huh

spk_0 yeah right away well it's so much fun he's so much fun to talk about he did nothing wrong

spk_0 okay yeah nothing no no are we sure we watched the same show i watched the same show and you know he

spk_0 he rescued he would jirou you know when he first escaped uh he helps get him a master sword and

spk_0 he helps that i'm master so i fuck okay he's uh yeah he's the best thing to do to be fair

spk_0 to be fair it is humbly possible that gurren didn't do anything wrong considering he is

spk_0 currently possessed by a ghost and a bitch um anyway i mean that's that's giving a little too much

spk_0 credence to him like do i don't know where a court of law would put him on the whole well i was

spk_0 possessed by a demon thing i feel like that would still get you a couple of life sentences

spk_0 that's true true true true anyway but we'll debate that in a bit here um of course we can't talk

spk_0 about gurren without talking about shinya who is um it's the white haired lieutenant basically uh

spk_0 almost a second in command who initially it seems to be a little too laid back for this role

spk_0 but gets a lot more into it as the show goes on by the end he's actually kind of pushing back

spk_0 against gurren's more devious activities we also need to talk about macoto um so to really

spk_0 lightning around rap things up here um the main group of characters that we follow throughout the

spk_0 show kind of get folded from their five person group into a larger group as the show goes on

spk_0 and that larger group is led by macoto so it's also uh one of the military leaders who is notable for

spk_0 being more active in the final battles and who also we get to see him lose some members of his squad so

spk_0 that's pretty sad but of course we can't talk about all of this without mentioning the last big

spk_0 bad of the whole thing kerato uh head of the haraki family who is basically the dark underclass

spk_0 ruling everything dot dot dot and i don't think he's the head of the haraki family but he's the

spk_0 maker player he's basically he's basically the air he's basically the air yeah he's the he's the

spk_0 he's like the eldest brother i guess for lack of better phrasing yeah yeah he's not he's not the

spk_0 archdolls right right but he is um kind of responsible for instigating the kind of bad things that

spk_0 happen to our character the day to the end of the show he's a bit of a dick bit of a dick so um

spk_0 we should probably give him his flowers too i guess voices all these fine military characters

spk_0 anime it's not political at all uh urine is voiced by dav trozko shinia is voiced by adr

spk_0 director jerry jule macoto is voiced by riko pahardo rap and riko himself oh yeah and kerato is

spk_0 voiced by garrot storms so uh let's start with soft by um i guess uh going around the table and

spk_0 talking about um kerato being the biggest dick ever oh my god we gotta start with him huh

spk_0 should garrot have made him even more of a bastard is the question

spk_0 cuz his voice is not like it's not a devious sounding voice it's not a no mustash twirling or

spk_0 even that low of a voice i don't think it needed to be that it didn't seriously

spk_0 yes it was it was taken pretty seriously on just the older brother tone he was a

spk_0 kerato lower kerato is like very much authoritarian authoritative kind of tone to it

spk_0 which which garrot definitely like gives 100% and it's so it's so funny it sounds some of the

spk_0 like you if you've watched a lot of more recent stuff it sounds nothing like him

spk_0 it like i'm i'm more i'm more fondly love garrot storms when he does comedy like when you when

spk_0 you look at token rambuhanamaru or even more recently um the fucking venda machine anime

spk_0 box so oh yeah he's i love the venda machine show he's still fucking cute in that he's yeah he's

spk_0 for anybody he doesn't know him he's a kashikimitsu and token rambuhanamaru

spk_0 pizza boxo and uh bribonins of any machine and i wanted to the dungeon and he is also um

spk_0 i think his name is cloche is black character care he's in black clover as um

spk_0 i think his name is uh not gouch gouches gouches uh like his uh Dave Trozco's character

spk_0 oh yeah but we also know him very early on too from um he's dancing to devils

spk_0 that that was the earliest we've that was the other early hero for him that we know him from

spk_0 yeah he's a seke in black clover if there uh but no like so this is very different from that

spk_0 archetype but it's not like his miscast at all listening to his portrayal of currican

spk_0 curto's an asshole like curto just wants curto just wants power and is going to do whatever he

spk_0 fucking can to get it and he believes that his way is the right way yeah and that mean that's

spk_0 it's not like uh we we needed more antagonism in the show um it does help play into um the

spk_0 keeping the audience guessing like you know who is the real bad guy you know like who's on whose side

spk_0 who should we fear the most should we fear the vampires or their human characters we should

spk_0 fear the most because they keep the vampires keep saying you're being manipulated to you they're

spk_0 saying you're being manipulated by the humans and we've slowly learned yeah yeah he kind of is

spk_0 yeah yeah and we don't know so we don't know all of the story because you have

spk_0 you have mika who's trying to save you and we don't know the whole story with cruel as well

spk_0 because cruel knows how a lot more than she lets on oh boy that that'll be a fun discussion

spk_0 but yeah curto pretty much embodies that whole um yet ulterior motives military leader who

spk_0 probably shouldn't be in charge all things considered um but i like carrots take on the character

spk_0 it was it was um menacing in a non obvious way and uh it sounded distinct enough from the other

spk_0 male characters um because we got a bit of a range of male personas going on here

spk_0 just you needed a guy to be the absolute bastard at the end of the show he gives me an

spk_0 authority authoritarian vibe because he is um that's a good way to put it yeah uh just to kind of

spk_0 get in some some some lord the lore uh the froggy suck yeah yeah that's that's the froggy suck in a

spk_0 we did magical experiments and made children for each other type of way for the uh secure

spk_0 amount of our power oh love that and this is before all the shit went down oh we've been better

spk_0 it's kind and of course it kind of led to the the the third impact thing that happened initially

spk_0 that almost destroyed humanity oh well sorry you know the third impact uh the third impact

spk_0 wasn't actually their fault it was somebody else's great um okay i mean that makes sense because

spk_0 that there's ports where they they talk about like oh the hiriki family was like the ones who

spk_0 helped rebuild society after it collapsed right so we already have the the seed of establishing that

spk_0 oh there it is some serious power jockeying in this yeah there's a lot of there's a lot of

spk_0 power jockeying and human experimentation and shit going on in the show um and

spk_0 kareto is it's kind of awful are any husband since he was a high schooler

spk_0 but i think Garrett gets across his authoritarian and uh backstabbing nature across

spk_0 and i think one of the most clear scenes about that isn't actually his scene where he's talking

spk_0 with garan about making the black gear it went uh his brother tries to arrest him yes

spk_0 he was just like when he tries to arrest him when little brother jockeying cook tries to arrest him

spk_0 yeah and then like sees this man and and kareto has made himself basically like an army of

spk_0 Westminster it's like brother you can't do something i'm gonna keep you alive until you're

spk_0 useful to me you're nothing more than a barking dog and like the way that Garrett gets that across

spk_0 without having to like you know be over the top in a sense works really well uh because there are

spk_0 times where there could be over the top characters in this we'll get to him later um

spk_0 yeah but but kareto is not that character if you know what i mean

spk_0 yeah and that's i mean that that's the same uh archetype for leaders to begin with yeah they say

spk_0 good leaders uh don't make people do what they want they inspire people to want to do what they say

spk_0 so it's not surprising that with the uh the performance garrick gives that that would lead to

spk_0 the army of yes men following him even though their their end goal is functionally to you know kill

spk_0 humans and vampires all like it's to just we're gonna kill everybody who is loyal to me which is

spk_0 very funny that he and uh garrick uh kind of very much are the same person in a sense yeah

spk_0 it got a little difficult yeah to tell like you know what whose motive was even more worse or

spk_0 like were they interconnected or not well i'm sorry i don't need the the whole lore spoon fed at this

spk_0 point here i'm saying like that no no i'm affected some of the viewing experience yeah no i get you

spk_0 it's just something about what i have to speak about garrick's performance that's why

spk_0 well we'll get there in a bit um i want to then switch over to uh talking about the koto um being

spk_0 um one of the leaders who i think of this group here we can say probably did the least wrong

spk_0 in fact i don't really think he did anything wrong he was like just led the troops to do what they

spk_0 were told to do stood by his troops and aside from having a little bit of big dick wagging energy

spk_0 against some of the new people joining the group was pretty much rootable for throughout the series

spk_0 yeah uh rinrico who you know kind of everybody knows he rica for hard oes these days um this is probably like

spk_0 eight i would say like not to be mean but mccoto i think it's just because of who mccoto is

spk_0 it kind of just fades into the background um and that's not bad criticism because there's a lot

spk_0 of characters so some of them aren't going to stand out as much yeah and that's saying something

spk_0 because i think that there are some characters who that we're not talking about where their

spk_0 performances were a slightly distracting do you want to mention that now we're way too late uh some

spk_0 of garrick squad okay okay okay can be a little distracting certainly none of them that had like

spk_0 major parts in the show like none of them that stuck around very long no i think uh how he is her name

spk_0 the the one that has the wrapped up sword her voice does kind of distract me sometimes

spk_0 all right i mean i i can't really say that stood up to me personally um i know it's just

spk_0 the again it's you have the the disadvantage of all the character designs being like all the same

spk_0 uniform so the only difference is yeah the voice that's given to them and the hair design basically

spk_0 yeah but okay so but as far as yeah ricos performance um it's it's nice that we had someone who

spk_0 i i don't want to say normal like i don't want to call it a normal performance but he doesn't give

spk_0 the character um like a quirk or something to stand out from the rest of them because he's supposed

spk_0 to be like just a decent guy at the end of the day so z1lx have anything about ricos

spk_0 performance on this part i mean the only thing i can say is like

spk_0 narmie kind of has ricos gives it kind of like a mature take and it kind of mirrors

spk_0 it mirrors personality wise a little bit to you a little bit um considering

spk_0 narmie wants to protect his friends and his squad and he wants to make sure everybody comes out of

spk_0 it alive and all this fun stuff so it kind of is an interesting mirror take but in a more mature

spk_0 form compared to you um but yeah like there's narmie he doesn't i don't think he quite fades into

spk_0 the background but he doesn't really become super super integral when you reach the battle

spk_0 nagoia aren't either um considering he does end up with the main group by the end of the second

spk_0 core though um my obvious assumption would be he gets to have a bit more to do uh moving forward so

spk_0 i'd be curious to know what happens from here on out okay i mean that i think that's a fair

spk_0 assessment of the character um yeah with the show having as many roles as they have it's it's kind

spk_0 of i suppose nice that we have some leader characters who aren't pieces of shit so thank you

spk_0 rico for having uh the voice that lets us know hey this is a character who we don't have to hate

spk_0 as much as some of the other uh head brass of the military you know that this guy didn't stab

spk_0 the good guys to try to get information out of them or to interrogate them

spk_0 speaking of uh i don't know shinyas a good guy or not necessarily like what he is he's a good boy

spk_0 he did nothing wrong shinyas shinyas with his fucking ferrari and his fucking toes

spk_0 so rolling on in shinyas who are he has done nothing wrong in his life and i say this as somebody

spk_0 who's read the current novels um if you don't know oh god shinyas white is my favorite secondary

spk_0 character in the show your cat is named after shinyas yes yes this is the character i named my pet cat

spk_0 after um even though she's a girl shinyas paragi is your shinyas her fully mis mis mis mis shinyas paragi

spk_0 she we only break out the legal name when she's being an asshole um which is often

spk_0 but just to like i again i don't want to like 100% lore drop flag everybody i do need to do it for

spk_0 shinyas though to understand that shinyas to understand gary's performance in this you also kind of

spk_0 need to understand that shinyas is a bit of a stepford smiler um this got this kid was adopted by

spk_0 the haragi family made to basically uh battle royale to get the hand of a girl of the daughter of

spk_0 the harwagi's maheru and then it turns out she basically is like yeah i have no intense on marrying

spk_0 you i don't know why you put up with this shit uh i'm in love with garen like as a child i'm in

spk_0 love with garen i will never fucking care for you act like you like we have to act like you like

spk_0 each other but i will never love you and you did this all for nothing

spk_0 not here is that that's what they're hinting at she's a ghost and a bitch she's a ghost

spk_0 anniversary because they drop that carry drops that line near the end of the show he's like you

spk_0 know we can finally have everything we wanted like when we were kids um like there's a whole

spk_0 ass arc in the back like being hinted at there that we're just never privy too isn't there

spk_0 yeah garen also does probably one of the single doucheous things to shin you have all time

spk_0 and that is uh fuck his fiance then call him to complain about it

spk_0 wow he's like yeah the sex sucks and garen and shin he's like really dude

spk_0 he's like oh yeah the apocalypse is starting by the way yeah i can see that um

spk_0 haha fuck but also have courage so from what i understand garen also kind of cast himself

spk_0 is this character by accident oh yeah i remember hearing this story uh he's like okay i'll just

spk_0 play this guy he's not gonna show up again later fuck uh i love it when i have fun

spk_0 i love this performance i i i absolutely love garen july shinya it's that level of

spk_0 honest yet swarmy that he has and you he definitely plays off the stick lodged up garen's

spk_0 asshole very well he is using it like he somebody can get him he stands in like a stripper off it

spk_0 i i i absolutely love gerry's tone of that it's just like it's it's both easy going and you

spk_0 100% understand that this is a person who knows what to do in a fight um that he is capable like

spk_0 we see several times that he can he's not just coasting he's not an irresponsible captain tyler character

spk_0 oh yeah no 100% he he's the one who teaches you how to snipe better he is the one that takes charge

spk_0 when uh everything goes to gobbly gook with uh him uh him and garen getting an entire gay episode

spk_0 do each other because they're both gay shit for each other um no really that's up let's wait let's

spk_0 get it um a reddit thread about that to debate i've been on a o3 i've seen what they do to shinya's

spk_0 bauhole is that what the sniping is for just anyways something something ram ranch um

spk_0 but i i i have always liked gerry jules performance in this show i think he's so much fun and that's

spk_0 kind of what shinya is as a character is he's fun until the serious business comes on and that's

spk_0 when gerry jules dresses for the job he wants if you know what i mean well like oh it's serious business

spk_0 it is a shame that we don't get to see um like the the lead up into like i'm sure like you were saying

spk_0 the lore of what led to this character i would go for the i would go for the garen novels to get

spk_0 adopted they're insane i'm sure there's a kickstarter being started to try to make that happen um but you

spk_0 know i'll look thanks considered like the shinya is kind of that trope of you know the the

spk_0 i had a comparison i was trying to get a vote i was like is this gonna be like the the uh general

spk_0 may hues of the show you know like to make the fma comparison is he gonna be the one who's uh like

spk_0 goofy and uh kind of you know silly acting but puts on his serious face when things get rough and then

spk_0 we're gonna have the tragic death that happens with him uh luckily we did not uh he did not you know

spk_0 kick the bucket but yeah we still got the silly side of things that's for sure until things

spk_0 weren't so silly anymore and you're right it was fun listening to gerry play both sides of that

spk_0 character yeah yeah gerry's shinya just kind of is like it's not lagateze it's not the word it's um

spk_0 can be eluf at times like he's just kind of he's just like uh i'm just here i don't know what you

spk_0 what you're doing suspecting me but all right i'm just here i guess of i i'm i'm kind of offended

spk_0 but all right i will just roll with it but you're right he he does when he it push comes to shove and

spk_0 like things do get serious when guren gets captured by croly right and all of a sudden shinya has

spk_0 to be the one to take control um and assume command of the whole operation for nakuya um shinya's

spk_0 like god damn it why am i the one stuck with this bullshit and he does step up to take it like take

spk_0 and he does and he goes against curto as well he's like what the fuck you doing don't ask like it's

spk_0 gerry does get to play have a lot more fun i i feel like gerry gets to have fun both with the playful

spk_0 side of shinya but also the more but also the more like what the fuck is going on holy shit

spk_0 it's getting real it's going down and he gets to have fun playing all like both those aspects of shinya

spk_0 but i feel i will say my favorite side of shinya though is the fun like laid back kind of like a

spk_0 louv personality just roll again rolling up in the car with the toast in the mouth like i remember

spk_0 i think i remember that happening and i think first like first hearing about that like both

spk_0 Megan and i got just were like sent into orbit what we heard about that we're like what the fuck this

spk_0 is amazing if this was any other production you would know that that would be a prime time for

spk_0 product placement like if this was a michael bay production that's where the like the car commercial

spk_0 shots would come out and i'm like this episode of serif was brought to you by ferrari he also has

spk_0 a little jet one of the fucking greatest weapons in the entire god damn show

spk_0 i said i got you that shoots demon tigers he has a son what we call we all have the snag

spk_0 rifle he has the fucking sniper rifle snagger snagger rifle like hell yeah let's go like it's so

spk_0 funny like shinya is a character i feel like would be she is a character i feel like would be much

spk_0 more well better suited for a completely better written show but it's fine he's here regardless

spk_0 and we're letting it happen but i i love jerry's performance in the show

spk_0 there's probably a whole world of other characters who aren't in the military in the society that

spk_0 you know shinya could have fit into like you know he could have been the person holding down all

spk_0 of humanity's knowledge and you know a like i know taku setting of some kind but we didn't get to

spk_0 see that though that wasn't in the cards for him he he instead was recruited to fight vampires instead

spk_0 he was kidnapped and he was kidnapped by the wrongy the wrongy's

spk_0 yes but who is his good buddy who also makes sure that he stays devoted in the army

spk_0 not good not good not good i'm trying to say this something

spk_0 okay i'll actually give you your thing they were they were kind of vitriolic best friends

spk_0 as children and then i'm going to just put this right here right now as like a big spoiler warning

spk_0 for anybody um no i can as editor or somebody can put the timestamps into when to move to skip

spk_0 this um he's going the reason why the apocalypse happened great what a super let me show you my

spk_0 shocked face um it's because him shinya and his squad died and he sacrificed them to bring them back

spk_0 but if uh but if they find out if like garrot if like the squad or shinya finds out they will

spk_0 crumble into dust great and they only have two years left to fix it

spk_0 say i was wondering about that whole like it has to happen by the certain date thing because

spk_0 they didn't really spell out like why it had to happen by the date that they were leading up to

spk_0 the show as the vampires versus the humans but we needed this this element of like the secret person

spk_0 who's training the humans to embrace i almost said witchcraft embracing demon weaponry and making

spk_0 contracts with demons that drives the impending second apocalypse which we do get in the last episode

spk_0 and you know what that that's honestly makes for some really entertaining bat shittery so thank you

spk_0 gern for that whoops this gives us some interesting time to talk about davirosko who um those who

spk_0 don't know um kind of stepped away from the voice acting game um a couple years after this came out

spk_0 so it's always good to revisit what he brings to the table which from this series is just plain

spk_0 smug madness uh is a root is an element.

spk_0 davirosko is gern is just is a fucking experience i feel like half the time and i made this in the

spk_0 most positive fucking way because revisiting revisiting the show it's like i can't see gern as anybody else

spk_0 because date just portrays him.

spk_0 davirosko is like a authoritarian kind of tone to him he also has this dickish attitude he's also

spk_0 smarmy little shit like it's such a oh yeah he likes to fuck with you on a frequent basis it's not

spk_0 even funny and he messes with you on a constant basis and it's just like i can't like he likes

spk_0 he was the it's just he had a class at the beginning of the show didn't he

spk_0 like they kept bailing on as the teacher yeah no yeah no

spk_0 yeah no girl in success this is your character yeah he's not a critique at all he's like his method

spk_0 of teaching at one point is like okay let's see how these kids do let's pull out the fucking

spk_0 daemon sword for a second see if they all keep standing for shitting giggle it's like what the

spk_0 fuck gern gern gern is a stupid stupid piece of shit he's an asshole but god does davirosko

spk_0 have so much fun with it and i can't see it any be anybody else the socks davirosko

spk_0 because gern is a dick i love it it's not like the the show wasn't necessarily like trying to hide it

spk_0 either i remember in one of the commentaries the cast was trying to decide okay so who's the the

spk_0 puppet master like causing everything to happen it is gern just a red herring and you get through

spk_0 the end of the show and it's pretty obvious no no that was pretty pretty straightforward no red

spk_0 herring's going on there it is the guy who you think is the one pulling the strings

spk_0 a lot of gigabytes i'm sure a lot of a lot of them no uh davirosko is going has all of the energy

spk_0 this is this is what it is uh you know i said that there are characters who are are basically

spk_0 Gundam coded yes this man is charazanable

spk_0 very specific this is this is very much a a quadro bina versus charazanable if he was also possessed by

spk_0 hamon con um because fun fact his demon is a member of the hiragi family initiative a sister

spk_0 and uh basically slaves with him and says you've just made my six year old self-streams come true

spk_0 which is really weird to say after you've fucked the man um seriously weird uh but i really like

spk_0 davirosko as as goren i think he gets across the um kind of aloof attitude of a lone wolf who

spk_0 stresses teamwork obviously because you know he let everybody die once and it's it's very

spk_0 funny now it makes sense yeah and it's really funny that shinya calls him not shinya shinya shinu

spk_0 uh shinu what calls him out early on about it that like he's the biggest lone wolf them all

spk_0 and he is deep i will say this i don't think deep as goren is as charismatic as koreito uh as

spk_0 he gets across the if i have to take care of these kids when we're fucking they have my god damn life

spk_0 so well that it it kind of works um and the other thing that is too is that he remember he also has to play

spk_0 um uh a goren that is not goren he also at the end time has to play yeah he has to play mahiro goren

spk_0 mahiro is played by lectus tipped in um so it's like hey buddy what's going on pal why you betraying all of us

spk_0 oh shit it's the ghost in a bitch um whoops but i genuinely enjoy the character what i think goren's

spk_0 a completely fascinating character in the sense that in the same way that again charaznable is very

spk_0 very fun to watch it's not that charazee it's it's the mystique of the it's a char mystique where like

spk_0 charaz really cool in like a mystique way but if you were actually to sit and examine it he'd be a really

spk_0 big fucking loser oh of course yeah it's that um that narrative argument that um we remember

spk_0 characters in media not because they're good but because they're driven like some of the worst

spk_0 people in tv's and movies are the ones who are pretty despicable but you remember them and you

spk_0 might even like them because god damn it they're driven krillidaville horrible human being driven

spk_0 to get a coat all right i can i can jive with that are you telling me that goren would make a

spk_0 coat at a human children hell yeah he would he's a scrux half vampire half human coat if he could

spk_0 oh my god but it wouldn't be his fault it was actually his girlfriend who made him do it

spk_0 so small site tangent um do watch if you get the opportunity the um uh serif of the endless

spk_0 ol machi episodes that are out there because those are a lot of fun to watch there's a one where it's

spk_0 it's just um uh what's it it's uh what what was the the girl's name again what was his uh his

spk_0 um our friend who died on your own my hero yeah my hero out like you see her like kind of like

spk_0 making him do stuff and he's like i'm not being possessed as she lifts an arm and he lifts an arm

spk_0 and then she's like oh remember you're making curry tonight don't forget onion's or on sale and he

spk_0 goes i must not forget onions or on sale oh one side man man he's a dick in his ass

spk_0 oh well who does it

spk_0 as you can see this this military is made up of of sane well put together individuals who are

spk_0 who need absolutely no counseling whatsoever so thank you dav jerry rego and garrot and everyone

spk_0 else who makes up the anti vampire squadron of this show they don't need therapy you just

spk_0 you just need a demon in a basement she's surprised speaking of those vampires in the basement

spk_0 we should probably actually talk about the vampires themselves um we're uh we're gonna get into

spk_0 deep lore of vampire kind here because um well the three we're gonna mention here kind of encompass

spk_0 the range of what vampires can be an anime for better and for worse a lolly is slutty gay man

spk_0 like i said the full range just the full spectrum there you're the gay man or slut we're

spk_0 brought to go down memory lane with this next section oh boy aren't we so the show gets kick started

spk_0 like i said because of the uh human characters as kids trying to escape the vampires and they're

spk_0 not able to do that because this character that we're gonna talk about first decide not can't do

spk_0 that um there's also possibly a little bit of prostitution going on here with this character amica

spk_0 possibly dot dot dot oh you know it's basically inferred yeah ferrid is uh the uh silver tongue

spk_0 vampire not leader necessarily but definitely pulling some of the strings behind the scenes to try

spk_0 to get more power and is the the closest thing we have to a vampire antagonist certainly in the

spk_0 first part of the series so uh naturally he's all of our favorites we also have cruel um who is this um

spk_0 uh short female vampire girl boss character who is the one who actually officially turns

spk_0 me get into a vampire because she cannot stand to see him die because in his escape attempt he was

spk_0 pretty close to death so she actually makes him drink her blood which in the lore of the show will

spk_0 turn you into a vampire but not fully until you drink the remains the not fully yeah until you drink

spk_0 right yeah there's there's like a percentage of blood that has to be drunk by both vampire and

spk_0 from humans there's it's complicated i got a wall with strings here to describe it but yeah cruel

spk_0 acts as our uh another antagonist throughout the series leads a lot of the vampires into battle

spk_0 against the humans and well it calls great i'll just say it goes really great so great in fact that

spk_0 it leads to our last vampire in this group crawly who is one of the big bads of the group who

spk_0 not to spoil anything but um kind of becomes the end boss of the vampires at the end of the day

spk_0 and is pretty much unbeatable in every battle they go up against leads to a lot of human deaths

spk_0 so naturally he's got a big fan club as well but voicing these vampires uh

spk_0 ferrid is voiced by Eric Vale cruel is voiced by monikerial and crowley is voiced by austin tindal

spk_0 shall we uh shall we talk about crowley first shall we talk about austin's portrayal of this character

spk_0 i yes i love i love crowley as a character crowley is like one of the single funniest characters in

spk_0 some tire show um i i he he is no crowley as hysterical like genuinely one of the funniest

spk_0 characters in this series like his affiliation is fuck it we ball yeah um he's not doing anything

spk_0 because he genuinely has a desire for power or anything he's just vibing

spk_0 he's just here for the vibes that's it he's here for the vibes and his two hot his two hot lady friends

spk_0 yep yeah he he knows he can't be beat and so he he's is trolling the characters with that power

spk_0 but does not yeah like you said doesn't really have the ambition to like destroy humanity or anything

spk_0 like i honestly don't think he even much cares for being around ferrid and ferrid's just like

spk_0 he's just like whatever dude uh also i'd like to point out that i one time made a member of the

spk_0 double talk crew lose their absolute god-given minds but i told them what the names of uh his two

spk_0 uh little girl servants were oh my god the little one's name is chast and the big one's name is horn

spk_0 yes uh which is all he knows if you think about it

spk_0 um Austin's performance of this character makes him so relaxed

spk_0 like he sounds like a guy who would be like getting beers with you at the football game

spk_0 but in a in a hot way he does have a jock affectation to his voice for sure yeah because

spk_0 Carlis just really strong and i genuinely love in the last episode where cruel ripses are

spk_0 him off and cracks his neck he's just so nonchalant about putting it back together he's like how

spk_0 that hurt oh yeah he's like oh man why did you have to go and do that

spk_0 why did the vampires themselves are like they really seem unkillable for any means aside from

spk_0 demon weaponry so yeah you can shoot them in the head you can break their neck and they'll just

spk_0 put themselves back together and it's totally fine yeah you need to have to kill them with like

spk_0 actual like demon stuff or you're like eating them right um but one of my fellow their favorite things

spk_0 is just like the level crawly has of like wow you guys are pretty strong and he's just like so

spk_0 chill about god damn everything and it's not even like it's not even like a level of i can't even

spk_0 describe as like a level of sass because it's not sass it's just this nonchalant like oh cool all right

spk_0 show me what you got that's pretty cool guys oh but you can't beat me still

spk_0 because the man was almost shut was shot at through the window by a sniper shot that in anyone else

spk_0 would have absolutely annihilated the just grab it toss off his jacket and just being like

spk_0 wowsers well that was pretty close he's like what is this hey guys you know what this is oh come on

spk_0 that's no fun stop going through walls and like i just really like austin tindles like kind of doofy

spk_0 like surf like i don't i don't know it's just some doofy it's it's so fun though

spk_0 that's a good way to put it doofy because yeah it's it's not going for like the ha ha comedic tone

spk_0 at all it's just it's entirely in the delivery this the lines being delivered by someone who

spk_0 is clearly undefeatable and is fine just fucking with everyone it's just a shame that um it is

spk_0 ultimate uh purpose of the show seems to be at the end of the day is um actually taking out

spk_0 anyone and everything well not everyone just like i don't know if i just boil this uh ends up being

spk_0 the one who takes uh takes cruel out at the end oh fair it i didn't see coming oh yeah fair it

spk_0 oh you're talking about fair it right oh yeah but then it's it's a crawly and fair it

spk_0 yeah just kind of the ones left over is like okay so what do we do now it's like where does that

spk_0 leave us since there's uh you know no cruel left it's a chain brain what are we gonna do now that

spk_0 we've taken over the world that is what it was like wasn't it oh my god yep maybe they'll figure

spk_0 it out in that second season oh wait there's a manga or the visual novel or the if this was a visual

spk_0 novel i'd be so happy i could see this becoming a visual novel i'd just go in the mika route every time

spk_0 uh speaking of who also went the mika route hardcore uh monika's uh cruel is um uh pretty archetypal

spk_0 like it's it's it's classic labor monika for a character design that fits the character um and

spk_0 uh gets to be gets to toy with the humans quite a bit yeah it can be kind of sickly sweet at times

spk_0 like it's it's it's because cruel tepis is this is a noble she's a noble vampire so you have that

spk_0 air of nobility and also a side of paw a little bit of arrogance that comes with it like looking

spk_0 down on the people below her which is the point what are you saying you fared

spk_0 fucking fared this dick um but cruel obviously knows a lot more than she's letting on

spk_0 like you get hints of it throughout the course of the show and especially when she

spk_0 has those moments when she confides in mika and tells like different secrets that we don't

spk_0 really 100% know about quite yet anyway um regarding um like you and the sheriff of the end and

spk_0 all this fun stuff but like because clearly she knows something that nobody else does

spk_0 but the show is even mean to the audience because there's at one point where she says

spk_0 i'm going to tell you all of the secrets to mika and whispers it into his ear but we the audience

spk_0 don't get the freaking hear it nanananana whoops i want to give monnaka a lot of credit because

spk_0 while the character is mostly in that like you said very regal um kind of full of herself and

spk_0 thinks she's above it all persona she does get to lose her cool a couple of times yes specifically

spk_0 the scene where there's a there's like a a call with the higher up vampires and she's kind of

spk_0 lancited by the uh the footage that Farad shows it like kind of undermines her authority a bit

spk_0 and she she gets bratty like she gets very understandably i don't think that's brad i think that's

spk_0 for on feminine rage yep it was it was deserved absolutely and yeah monnaka keeps the um

spk_0 keeps the voice that she was using for the character while still breaking breaking into this

spk_0 persona that is again understandably pissed off at not getting her way for once i think for me the

spk_0 thing that really sells monnaka as cruel is just this level of her yes being kind of like you know

spk_0 above it all and stuff but a lot of it also definitely has a you do not pay me enough to deal with

spk_0 this bullshit kind of levels especially when it comes to Farad and there's this very much like

spk_0 there's this very playoff one of another type of thing between the two of them where it

spk_0 these two really old caddy bitches

spk_0 dealing with each other and it's it's very interesting that she has a affection for the yaki

spk_0 a children and especially mikaela himself yeah she she's very she does probably very much feel

spk_0 a game mother figured him though she's not the best mom though she did teach him who to drive

spk_0 i don't listen we can always drive someone taught mikaela how to drive and i do not think it

spk_0 was fair about the way fair about the way we're not driving his own car oh god no um

spk_0 so i think they're cool didn't it which makes me wonder how she made how she was reaching the steps

spk_0 and the thing they also kind of really like about about monnaka's performance about this

spk_0 is that she she proteins that it's being able to retain sounding like childish and childlike

spk_0 but having the ability to come off as that thousand years old character there is something behind

spk_0 her voice there is something behind her intentions the way that she gets angry that we're not to

spk_0 know we're not allowed to know about and even she has to you know play these betrayals because

spk_0 in the end cool gets got by farad um and it's clear that your neck open yeah you you left your neck

spk_0 open and i think that's my way of leading into talking about let's let's just rip the band it off

spk_0 let's talk about Farad Bathroy the sarako of the show um then there's this asshole and then there's

spk_0 play fair at bathroy with so much lethal camp like this man is a piece of shit and

spk_0 Eric val knows that he's a piece of shit and he is going to play up every shitty shitty aspect

spk_0 of the scheming conniving essentially court visear that is like the only way i can really describe

spk_0 Farad as a character is that he has another noble lower down the chain but he very much has the

spk_0 appearance of a court visear who has tricked the little kids that he has taken in to give extra food

spk_0 and a guac my thing is i don't think he i don't think he planted the guac on the guac for meca

spk_0 there's no way he's that dumb i know he did the map i think the guac was unexpected um

spk_0 and there's yeah the map was very try to escape was very clearly planted as a i mean either he

spk_0 takes the map and tries to escape and i could have some fun with him or he doesn't and well he'll

spk_0 still be trapped down here yeah pretty much uh the it's one of those like he is definitely a lot

spk_0 smarter than he lets on to other people and and that's what works about Eric's performance is

spk_0 it's a little bit foppish it's it's very teasing it's very oh well you know me

spk_0 kind of kind of levels and that's why when he's a threatening when he's an actual threat it comes

spk_0 off as actually threatening he never really loses cool does he uh no the only time he really does is

spk_0 kind of when he actually finally gets uh cruel into his clutches right yeah right at that

spk_0 end there he goes he goes very animalistic but for the most part he he has the persona that

spk_0 Eric gives him of i'm totally in control of all situations and i do not think i could possibly

spk_0 lose ever it's it's got a very the rail tracer from bachino vibe to it

spk_0 that's the description apt

spk_0 and because we're you know we're watching this we're supposed to be cheering for the humans

spk_0 so we're not absolutely what we're not expecting the vampires to be good individuals

spk_0 we don't know with a full extent of his capabilities either so

spk_0 coupled with the foppishness of it yeah it definitely makes him a compelling villain throughout

spk_0 the series that by itself could have carried the show like he could have been just the the main

spk_0 antagonist of the series without all this uh center espionage and uh and the whole thing's going on

spk_0 yeah i mean it doesn't seem like he really had uh and a hand in bringing about the end of the world

spk_0 if i'm not mistaken um i think he kind of does but it's very hard to quantify without you know

spk_0 digging into a novel i haven't read in god knows how long right right like we know who the master

spk_0 minds are but it's like what when it does happen in episode in the very last episode and we have the

spk_0 whole you know uh blowing of the horns thing he doesn't act like oh no not that that could destroy

spk_0 humanity he's just kind of amused by the whole thing

spk_0 because he's a piece of shit

spk_0 oh

spk_0 just just a little bit

spk_0 he is involved in a lot more of the deeper darker plots and planning

spk_0 than what we're led to believe especially because we find because when we found out um

spk_0 towards the last bit of the show when he's talking to crowley where crowley's like so you actually

spk_0 had something to do with this didn't you all this shit happening and fared is like what me no

spk_0 it's not just me i hadn't a complice and hold this a comb that's his guren um

spk_0 and it's just very very interesting to see eric who

spk_0 who usually plays much more straightforward stereotypical characters and things like that

spk_0 get the chance to just cool ham it's so much fun when he gets to go ham and fared is just that

spk_0 what was it i just secretly remember in the original episode that we had i i i almost died

spk_0 because both hardy and Megan decided to put on their best max and million pegass system pressure

spk_0 easy because i was so upset about it that's that's how

spk_0 me because i've got a map but it goes oh my god oh my god boy

spk_0 that was that was that was it

spk_0 died is what i'm saying it was if you were in a certain if you were with certain groups you

spk_0 you survived because uh hey uh let's go with this garen was not 13 when uh that should happen

spk_0 great see i couldn't tell like it's just the uh general designs of anime

spk_0 characters make it a little hard to you know like oh this uh he's gonna do it like garen's like

spk_0 1425 see i can't tell it's again it's that character design uh can't tell if like early 20s or

spk_0 late 40s it could be one or the other but uh yeah we're gonna talk about some characters who are

spk_0 actually on the younger side we're gonna talk about well actually three of the four are one of

spk_0 them is actually much much older than all of them we're gonna talk about the moon squad we're

spk_0 actually gonna talk about our main groups fighting squad there's five members of the squad we're

spk_0 gonna talk about three of them and one of the demons who uh actually helps make things happen

spk_0 for a very particular reason we're gonna talk about the demon character but in the squad our

spk_0 characters who we all get introduced to in the first arc of the show we get to meet sheho

spk_0 kimi zuki who is our red-headed uh glasses wearing character who is of course antagonistic with

spk_0 yui chiro in school when they first meet but ends up becoming a pretty bad-ass

spk_0 i just see wielding again it's like it's like twin swords it's a blade it yeah it's so basic

spk_0 netted one has like i would say he i think he wrote like basically chain together twin semitars

spk_0 that's what it is they're they're distinct from each other but yeah he's uh and he is uh

spk_0 specifically in this group because he is trying to avenge his sister who was killed by the vampires

spk_0 everyone in this group has some trauma that they're getting through no kimi zuki's sister didn't die

spk_0 he's sister has it was um no she has the uh kimi zuki sister has the apocalypse virus

spk_0 yeah oh right the that's right it was um yeah right she was um looking to

spk_0 use to try and channel the new sheriff of the end yeah and he was trying to get into the army

spk_0 so that they could find a cure for it because they're the only ones who would have the

spk_0 means to do so yeah thank you thank you you're right well i made one mistake i'm a like one per year

spk_0 no um the uh let's see we've also got meets with a sangu who is the last one who we meet in the group um

spk_0 i'm gonna try to be nice and say that she's more than just token sundare but that is pretty much

spk_0 her personality type um but she is um a capable fighter in the group and kind of helps to balance out

spk_0 the other characters just by being uh more emotional individual and to my knowledge um her baggage

spk_0 isn't so much with the loss of someone it's that she comes from uh very prestigious family

spk_0 and has been raised up the ranks because her family has a lot of pull in this post apocalyptic world

spk_0 and that leads to a little bit of resentment we call them they call me

spk_0 yeah exactly one now here's the one who i was initially thinking of when i mentioned had lost

spk_0 a sibling um we also need to talk about youichi satameh precious cinnamon roll that he is um he is

spk_0 the uh one of the group who is a bow and arrow person you initially think is going to be a

spk_0 secreting because we see him being bullied in the school setting in the second episode but turns out

spk_0 he's actually got a natural skill for bonding with the demons and uh being very capable in battle

spk_0 but he's got to get over the whole watching his sister be uh decimated by a vampire when they're

spk_0 very younger thing that is what drives him as well as just being an all around great individual

spk_0 but we have and we have to wrap this up also by talking about the demon sword that you

spk_0 reach your row that we'll talk about in the next section bonds with specifically because it's not

spk_0 just a talking sword this is not a looting tomb sketch it is actually a demon who has a whole persona

spk_0 that we see interact with you each year in like this cloud heaven setting that all takes place in

spk_0 his mind and is really upfront about the fact of you know the more you bond with me the more

spk_0 the less control you will have like I will give you my power to get revenge on the vampires who

spk_0 destroyed your family but it's gonna cost you in the long run you sure you want to do that you

spk_0 want to bite from that apple all right so that is what awesomaru is and she's a presence that

spk_0 you can use throughout the entire series so gotta have some words on that

spk_0 voicing these characters she ho is voiced by Ian Sinclair needsa is voiced by Alex Moore

spk_0 you wee chi is voiced by Chris Burnett and awesomaru is voiced by Colleen Klingkenbeard

spk_0 just to go we're talking about oh sorry go ahead yeah thank you for all I would yeah I wanted to

spk_0 um just talk about awesomaru uh briefly because she does not interact with the rest of the group

spk_0 here so I wanted to get what's that he it's a boy he I apologize the I did not pick up on what the

spk_0 gender was in there especially because I believe it's very androgynous there he is very androgynous

spk_0 but it is a male character he's voiced by a a girl in the Japanese too right yeah the character is

spk_0 just a young boy that's why okay gotcha um so Colleen Klingkenbeard voiced in the character um this

spk_0 is one that really stood out to me because it's really different from the Japanese like um this the

spk_0 Japanese voice is uh much younger sounding um like you were saying Megan it's supposed to be a

spk_0 young male character although it's a demon that's thousands of years old it's anime logic roll with

spk_0 um but they decided not to go with matching that voice inflection in the english they started to go

spk_0 for one that had a bit more gruffness in the voice um trying to give a bit of age to it and

spk_0 delivery is very different like I said from the Japanese but I like it I like it a bit better because

spk_0 it breaks from the archetype and plays up the uh other worldliness of the character and sounds

spk_0 very different from any other character that we hear in the show

spk_0 yeah no she is he colleen's performance as uh ashramari was one of my favorite colleen performances

spk_0 and one that I genuinely really love um and it's really a shame because colleen's

spk_0 thanks to doing uh one piece will probably never get to play a character like that again um well I

spk_0 mean the show can't go on forever you can cut this out um it's what it's under her vocal cords

spk_0 yeah it's what it did what the louvier was has done physically to her voice to a voice

spk_0 I see that is a shame then yeah um but uh the thing is that I I really like the performance because it

spk_0 is so much the you know devil the devil contractor and that ashramaru is so very much um

spk_0 yeah god it's so weird it's I'm trying to think of how to how to explain this it's so smooth and yet um

spk_0 um it uh would you say that it's it's a um

spk_0 forbidden fruit kind of role yeah it works that devilish snakey attitude into it um that like oh man

spk_0 you don't touch but yet there's also like this level of I think ashramaru knows what's going on

spk_0 about the plot of the show more than he wants to let on or let you even know um yeah and it's like

spk_0 don't touch that trumpet uh these fucking angels are here you know right um there's your

spk_0 angel imagery from the title yeah because that's a whole other thing I have no time to get into um

spk_0 so it's it's very interesting because uh ashramaru does have a connection to a character outside of

spk_0 you each row and uh also you guys after we record I kind of want to leave it up some things up for

spk_0 viewers in uh who want to check out the manga after this but I think the reason that it works so

spk_0 much is that they definitely I think more than the Japanese probably made it sound more masculine

spk_0 it is it is honestly a better little boy boy with a boy voice than some of the people who are male

spk_0 uh sign male at birth who did with a boy voices in this show because supposedly they actually

spk_0 just had them do it themselves and they didn't get a female actor to come a uh

spk_0 a fan actor to come in and and do the little boy voices which is not usually a thing that usually

spk_0 happens it's it's like kind of the Bart Simpson thing where it's like Bart Simpson's played by woman

spk_0 always has been or like nor artist has been played by a woman always has been um right right

spk_0 but I really like ashramaru and uh I guess I guess I'll I'll say some little fun facts I was going to

spk_0 try to say earlier so uh fun fact um number one that yoichi's demons actually really hot

spk_0 uh we see that in the manga his demons actually hot his demons really hot uh number two is that uh both

spk_0 kisekiyo and mi rai are both I believe played by brinaple yes uh and third uh you do actually get

spk_0 to see mitzuba sister the entire time yep she is the blonde chick that is always following around um

spk_0 uh kerato that's her sister oh he has played by sarah we didn't have and it is confirmed only in

spk_0 the final episodes when they they're they're fighter planes like show up and she's like sister and

spk_0 you put it together in your head oh i mean like they kind of look alike but it's just kind of you know

spk_0 you you don't want to insinuate until you get absolute confirmation

spk_0 so step what does uh anything to add on collie's performance um not really uh collie has

spk_0 collie makes ushramaru like this childish and otherworldly tone to the character um and i think i

spk_0 think one of my favorite things is that ushramaru like collie loves to taunt yuichiro as well

spk_0 every second he gets like taunting you is like yeah you just hand over your body to me i can give

spk_0 you all the power you want and you just like nah i won't hand over but i'll take your power

spk_0 i don't i won't hand you my body um i'll be your friend though that that that part was fun he's like

spk_0 yeah um if you give me power i'll be your friend and otter mara was like wait what

spk_0 otter mara i did nothing i did not think this i did not think this thing do

spk_0 otter mara is like wait what the fuck did i't expect that no but it no there's i don't really

spk_0 have a lot more to add for collie like i i think it was i think it's a solid performance to be honest

spk_0 all right so then we can probably segue over into talking about the the human characters um who

spk_0 should we talk about first of the trio on screen here i feel like as she gets the least amount to

spk_0 do let's just talk about miss eva all right we'll be nice about it oh miss eva look Alex more absolutely

spk_0 show it up to to to complete the assignment that was given the assignment given just did not have a

spk_0 whole lot of depth to it it had some like tender moments when things got emotional and it had a whole

spk_0 a lot of archetypal sunderry moments with the whole uh i shut up shut up i don't have a crush on him

spk_0 i'm not falling for him which i mean good because he's not batting for your team that's pretty much

spk_0 the extent of don't worry she's not batting for his team either that's a good point

spk_0 but yeah the it's um i mean it goes with saying that this is one that was like the weaker written

spk_0 of the group overall but it's not it's not unwelcome i guess like it's not a character that's um

spk_0 objectified like some of the other um characters would be in the same role so i guess the bar

spk_0 is just low enough that oh they cleared that it's look good for them

spk_0 yet there is like one scene of them being being naked in like kind of horny and even then it's not

spk_0 even like that bad it's mostly just girls talking and it's like they're not even talking about a

spk_0 guy they're talking about how mitsubba is big trauma at the beginning is that she broke formation and

spk_0 she broke formation that got her allies killed when she was like 13 yeah um and then she she kind

spk_0 of has this new team and she's got to do it and she kind of quits off the Sundari act pretty easily

spk_0 and and a big reason is that um now she and she and Shinawa are gay for each other in my mind um

spk_0 but there's there's this level to Alex's performance where i would say out of the four

spk_0 characters she definitely out of the moon are like basic squad she would definitely

spk_0 fits her character but i don't know if it's like the strongest performance over time

spk_0 but i still really like it i think that she's really cute in it i think she has these moments where

spk_0 she she definitely um picks up the slack for things but unfortunately

spk_0 mitsubba doesn't do a ton mitsubba exists

spk_0 mitsubba's here just really funny because between me and staff i'm the mitsubba and she's the Shinowa

spk_0 yeah yep we've said that a few times before

spk_0 it's kind of funny no i i i i i i i i i i i'm i think i'm gonna agree like

spk_0 i do like i do like what Alex more did with the character and it's i feel like i think when

spk_0 i first watched this show like 10 years ago the the voice and the performance of mitsubba was a

spk_0 little grating to me at first but we're visiting it now i don't mind it as much um but

spk_0 mitsubba i kind of wish we got to have a bit more with mitsubba's character not just have it

spk_0 be a quick little arc for her early on in the beginning and then that's all she wrote um but

spk_0 i i i think Alex does i i think Alex does really well with the sun that i sass sassafras that is um

spk_0 mitsubba yeah that much more to say than that um which means we get to devote more time than to

spk_0 talking about uh i i say we switch then over to you eegi like let's uh let's give a crispernet

spk_0 some praise for being the best nicest character i should say the nicest not the best but the

spk_0 least flawed individual who did not deserve any of the hardships that be fell him throughout the show

spk_0 you eegi is a cinnamon roll too good and pure for this fucking earth

spk_0 really is he really is um and and the yeah the chris is like um soft shy delivery of the character um

spk_0 it's very fun to watch the contrast of that voice maintained from the first hit reductions where he's like

spk_0 running and cowering from bullies and take that same voice and give it to the character when he's

spk_0 talking to his demon bow basically you know like asking for guidance to like you know make my arrow

spk_0 fly straight and pure may it strike down my enemies where they are without changing the tone of all

spk_0 mm-hmm

spk_0 i think to me eegi is unfortunately another character who really just kind of fades into the background

spk_0 was good the show doesn't fucking do anything with him after he cuts his weapon but i really like

spk_0 chris for net's performance in the early episodes where he is that like soft and shy but it's clear

spk_0 that he's not weak he's just you know got trauma mm-hmm

spk_0 um so i really like it and chris for net's an actor who doesn't come back to do a lot

spk_0 i thought but it's very funny to me i realize now that uh

spk_0 yowichi is just his character from cradman if he wasn't a slot

spk_0 in terms of his voice oh christ you should watch cradman it's very good um

spk_0 but i genuinely like it i would say out of the the kind of like main

spk_0 moond demon company he he is kind of the one that this easily very slots into things

spk_0 and i enjoy it and it doesn't offend me or stand out a ton so

spk_0 i feel like i feel like kind of in addition to him being just like the the kind of like the sweet

spk_0 nice character i will say that something that i do appreciate that chris for net did

spk_0 also do with yowichi's character is as the show progresses while yowichi does still have some

spk_0 of his doubts on occasion he does also gain some amount of confidence throughout the course of

spk_0 the show it may not be a lot but you do see him gain some amount of confidence and chris gets to

spk_0 put that on display too um especially with him trying to speak his mind a little bit more and

spk_0 trying to protect um his new family because i please tell me it is all about family family

spk_0 family oh finally it's it's but um i think that's something that i i definitely appreciate with

spk_0 chris for net's portrayal of yowichi is that slow growth and that slow

spk_0 that slow progression and that bit of confidence that yowichi gets to build throughout the

spk_0 course of the show as well oh i forgot to say something in my fun facts about the character interactions

spk_0 okay uh the vampire who killed a sister is uh one of the simple look up but it is to one of the

spk_0 blowjob brothers lacas oh the dumbass who drove the plane into the wall too you were 10 feet off

spk_0 yeah fucking we ball fucking we ball the plane crashed in oh my god i like i i i love that by the way

spk_0 it is him it is a revolver so now looks organ to play them um i just love that lacas just does

spk_0 not give a shit and the other one just like why are you like this yep Renee Renee who's Alex

spk_0 Renee who's Alex organ and he's just like seriously dude come on now oh here now anyway well

spk_0 sorry i had to put that in there i'd said or say like hey if you weren't paying attention so

spk_0 yep i mean it was you mentioned falling into the background it was very easy to uh mistake some

spk_0 of the vampires who don't like have strong personalities between one and the other unless they're

spk_0 like one of the ones that have like really stand out character designs like the one with the top hat

spk_0 or the the biker guy with the like heavy eyeshadow like there's a couple of them that do stand out

spk_0 oh the one that that that that's drinking like four-year-old girls blood and is a little too excited

spk_0 about it yeah that what it you're gonna remember and for all the wrong reasons

spk_0 it's probably a good thing that uechi kind of falls into the background though because that means

spk_0 he doesn't get like sucked into even worse things happening to him so he gets to survive into the

spk_0 end of the show basically okay wait wait can he do that oh yeah he's really good at this

spk_0 hell yeah fucking good at it get good scrubs

spk_0 i i genuinely enjoy that their entire thing it was

spk_0 and shinoa like yeah we should take the time to explain why he's communicated to his demon

spk_0 and shinoa admits a bit like i don't know get good whoops um that is so lazy

spk_0 just fuck it make the sword drinkable we're gonna stand out here in this parking lot and enact fight club rules

spk_0 yep listen that is deep that is uh the demon school Florida edition

spk_0 she's surprised you can't tell me i'm wrong i'm not saying shit

spk_0 well i think we should then um uh finish off this squadron to the moon by talking about the other

spk_0 person who gives their blood and their soul over to the demons let's talk about shino for a bit shall we

spk_0 i was also surprised that didn't get to do a lot more near the end of the show

spk_0 um but i am glad that he got kind of tied into the um the the finale with his sister being the

spk_0 like you said the the demon sword who's kind of enacting the end of the world as it were

spk_0 but before that he didn't really get as much to do as i thought he would

spk_0 he he's kind of the foil to to you and like listen obi rail is in kris and klery convincing 14 to six

spk_0 year old 16 year old voice i don't think so absolutely not no no i've i've heard of

spk_0 ones who balls have dropped in giant atoms apple at 14 he's one of those kids but like

spk_0 i genuinely really like the performance i think that he carries a lot of the paythos and uh

spk_0 uh uh is it paythos i think we can't pose yes of of yoichi and of kimi's he really well inside of him

spk_0 i think he absolutely nails the angry the anger uh the despair and i genuinely love that

spk_0 episode where they do uh walmart demon possessions um walmart demon possessions yep

spk_0 it's i'm gonna say this because i think you both perform theater kids

spk_0 it's like going to the all right guys win the denbies after the performance

spk_0 lay in the ground get possessed and if you start fucking it up uh we will uh we will uh kill you

spk_0 if needed what do you we'll be booking the part of edesias somehow

spk_0 now. Um, so that's how I always wanted my my slumber parties to go, you know, was

spk_0 up. All right, you have some snacks. You maybe do a little truth or dare. You get possessed

spk_0 by a demon weapon and try not to flip out. What do you think girls night is, man? It's

spk_0 been a while. It's been a while. So I've been invited to the girls sleep overnight.

spk_0 Hey guys, when you're talking about the girls in the games, can you can you be the girls

spk_0 in the games and know a clue? I really want to feel included here.

spk_0 I cook good. I cook a great breakfast in the morning. Tell you.

spk_0 Yeah, so it should be like you said, going without saying that Ian does, it's not a convincing

spk_0 teenage character, but I think we give him a little more leeway just because his deadpan delivery

spk_0 against you each hero throughout the series is entertaining enough that we can kind of let that

spk_0 slide. Hello, I'm trying to think. Oh, so, um, go ahead. Very quiet.

spk_0 Yeah, is there anything else she have did or that really merit standing out aside from just being

spk_0 the foil? Oh, the murder coffin. Oh, yeah, he's a pops in with a power sapping coffin in one of

spk_0 the final battles. Yeah, he's basically the reason why he's basically the reason why

spk_0 you calm the fuck down. Which is good because it kind of got the impression that if he hadn't,

spk_0 that you each hero probably wouldn't have survived to the to the next episode. He went full

spk_0 of her saying there. Sure did. And nothing can go wrong. Oh, no, no, it broke.

spk_0 No, I can't wrap up our thoughts on. Go ahead. I didn't get the real talk about Kameziki. I

spk_0 can't. Kameziki is one of those odd ones for me because like,

spk_0 Ian's a Claire is a phenomenal actor. No one's going to argue against that like ever, like not even.

spk_0 But it's like Megan was saying, I, I, Ian, Ian coming, like, making a convincing

spk_0 14 to 16 year olds boy though, um, can sometimes be very difficult for me to get past

spk_0 total wise. And I still had some of those difficulties on this rewatch.

spk_0 Eventually, I was able to, to kind of get past that and just roll with it like everything else in

spk_0 this show because let's be real. You got, you kind of got a role with everything in this show.

spk_0 And but that's also a credit to Ian's portrayal of Kameziki as well because I 100% agree.

spk_0 Like every, every aspect of Kameziki's character from all of his upbringing and trauma to his

spk_0 love of his sister to his on and off like semi antagonistic spat with you to like all of this,

spk_0 all of this bits and pieces and this personality. Ian portrays it very, very well. It's just,

spk_0 it's just one of those unfortunate things where the tone of voice doesn't 100% match what visually,

spk_0 I think the character could look like, I guess, in a weird way. And it didn't hold up well 10 years ago.

spk_0 It doesn't hold up, it holds up a little bit better now to me, but it still doesn't hold up

spk_0 stunningly well if that makes sense. It's one of those performances that ended up being

spk_0 serviceable mostly because of the tone of voice, but that's not a discredit to Ian's like full

spk_0 on portrayal of the character because he still did a phenomenal job in the role itself. So

spk_0 it's one of those I'm willing to overlook this. Correct. I agree. And it became, it became one

spk_0 it became like 10 years ago. I was like, I don't like this. This is a weird to me where it's,

spk_0 we're now it's like, I'm fine with this. This is okay. I still, it's not one of my favorites.

spk_0 However, the performance itself is like how he portrayed the character help me get past my

spk_0 initial issues with it. And that's the part that I think is the most important. The fact that he's

spk_0 able to convince me that he's a he is more than capable of portraying this kid. That's the important

spk_0 piece in all of this. Yeah, the acting goes a long way into that. Correct. And it's it's it's

spk_0 high enough a pitch that I I also could spend my disbelief enough. Also, I personally think that

spk_0 because ages are kind of all over the place between anime portrayals of like what the character

spk_0 designs look like and what their actual ages are supposed to be, I've kind of stopped being able

spk_0 to say like, no, this character has to sound like within this range because they were told they're

spk_0 this particular age. So really didn't bug me at all in this particular instance. Now imagine if it was

spk_0 like a Brad Garrett voice voice in the character, those like very clearly low male

spk_0 bass tone, then that might have been distracting. Right. No, I feel like I feel similar. Like, I feel

spk_0 like over the years, I've kind of learned to let that go a little bit more unless it's overtly like

spk_0 obvious to the point where it's distracting. Like, I've learned to let because that's always I

spk_0 I distinctly remember like early on when we were doing the podcast that that was a huge ass nitpick

spk_0 to me. Mm-hmm. Was how my brain could not connect the tone of voice with the character in their

spk_0 design. Nowadays it's like I I'm more capable unless it's super obvious that it shouldn't really

spk_0 match and it shouldn't work, right? I'm more than capable of looking past it nowadays. So I think

spk_0 that says a lot about I think more about me and how like how I perceive things at the older I get

spk_0 and how like how I kind of consume media now. Yeah. So personal growth everybody.

spk_0 And that's part of what this this retrospective is all about. Yeah, exactly.

spk_0 That's tracking your personal growth. Yeah, exactly. That's kind of one of the big reasons why

spk_0 this we're doing this. So

spk_0 Well, right. Does anyone else have any last thoughts they want to get out before we move on to our main

spk_0 three? I will say this. I think that the four voices of voices of the main demon company I'll do

spk_0 very much complement each other. So I don't have any. Yes. Um issues with them as like a quintet.

spk_0 Yes, as a unit they're very cohesive and that's something I really really love because it's

spk_0 they're the the them as a squad is very diverse with different tones and different personalities

spk_0 the dynamic between the five of them just bounce and play out of each other so so well. And

spk_0 I think it's one of the biggest things that I really enjoyed in this rewatch was just seeing them

spk_0 compliment each other. And even if they're not called upon to do more than just fight for most of

spk_0 the show. Yeah. It is that dynamic that is the strongest character interactions throughout the whole

spk_0 show. Whereas many of the others are simply a matter of military leader versus subordinates or

spk_0 monster vampires versus victims. Yeah, this is the the really deserves the label of family that

spk_0 keeps getting thrown around a whole lot. And certainly the connection from the whole we're trying

spk_0 to replicate attack on Titan element that probably the best translation between the two. And

spk_0 honestly just character dynamic is actually better than that show and I I very much soured on Titan

spk_0 after they found what was in the basement. So um but I think to me the other thing is that they're

spk_0 also when they get to actually be teenagers they are rip roaringly funny. Yes, I agree.

spk_0 Like when when when you can music you summons the coffin for the first time and you just

spk_0 backs the fuck up is like what do you do is like I don't like on your stupid death thing.

spk_0 And then the how do you how do you put the girl setting the eggs on fire flipping is a technique.

spk_0 Yes, Flambe is a technique guys. I heard alcohol and make it taste better. Yeah.

spk_0 Fucking yeah, those like hard you you you you taking the SUV for a spin and music and can

spk_0 be easy. Oh god, that's like what the fuck did I genuinely love that scene because

spk_0 it's just them talking over T and you just watch it happen and it's just like oh no.

spk_0 No, no and then immediately following that you know it's just like I see my skills are needed

spk_0 she hops in the draper seat she's fucking short and then the boys just lose it.

spk_0 They just make fun of her and then she just beats a shit out of you and can be a skit.

spk_0 Well, we should probably talk then about the remainder of the squad so we can

spk_0 wrap up our discussion about the greatest vampire anime ever made here.

spk_0 Let's talk about the main three to the ones who get the most screen time the ones who drive the

spk_0 the who I wouldn't say necessarily drive the plot so much as the ones who we see the world

spk_0 and fold through their eyes the most. So we're going to talk about Shino Hiragi. We're going to talk

spk_0 about the purple haired leader of the squadron who is wiser beyond her years and has to be in

spk_0 order to keep things going. We're going to talk about Michaela Hayakaya who is the unintentional

spk_0 victim of vampire attacks and has to live as a vampire for the majority of the series and we're

spk_0 going to talk about the man the myth the legend who we've been referencing throughout the entire

spk_0 series. We're going to talk about the main character Yorituro Hayakaya and you may have noticed that

spk_0 I just mentioned that both Yorituro and Michaela have the same last name to each other that is not

spk_0 because they are biological relation is because they were both members of an orphanage when they're

spk_0 young because they were abandoned by their families and we slowly find out that that orphanage

spk_0 may have been doing a bit of a human experimentation that we are only privy to a little bit of in this

spk_0 anime. But yes, that is the way they know each other. Yeah. So Shinoa is voiced by Felicia Angiol.

spk_0 Michaela is voiced by Justin Breiner and Yorituro is voiced by Micah Solasad. Oh my god

spk_0 which probably gets Shinoa's section focused on here first because although she is again pivotal

spk_0 to the show overall she's not as essential as the main two that I the other two in this group.

spk_0 So let's talk about that. I liked it. I like Felicia's portrayal of this role balancing both the

spk_0 Lucy Goosey side of the character who's kind of toying around with their subordinates but then

spk_0 gets serious when things have to be take because she is actually a military leader and can be

spk_0 depended upon to lead the squandering and making decisions that won't get them killed in the end of the day.

spk_0 There's so much fucked up shit about this girl. This I think was the role that really put Felicia

spk_0 Angiol on the map for me and she nails it. She is every about a amount of this Somani little

spk_0 asshole princess that needs to be there and yet she also gets across her fears and genuine

spk_0 like anxieties across because it's very clear something's gone on with Shinoa that we don't know about

spk_0 and that she herself is also not very good with people.

spk_0 I try to think about the things but I think the thing that really sells her is her first

spk_0 interactions with UHiro in that she's like oh you get it's such a foundational moment for their

spk_0 front their kind of relationship is when he's going to fight the bullies you she's like oh yeah

spk_0 by the way if you get into fight it's going to extend your it's going to extend your attention

spk_0 and you're like what? Then then he gets his ass punched. A speech and she for one of the first

spk_0 seasons she's kind of an exposition dump for a lot of things and I think thankfully the series as

spk_0 it goes on makes her her own character which is she is kind of this temporary morality pet for UHiro

spk_0 but the way that Felicia handles it is with such class she has so much fun when she is being Shinoa

spk_0 and she nails those bubbly moments she nails the very like serious and somber moments

spk_0 and I love when she's like hey you're your his family too get out of here we'll be

spk_0 grouped with you with the airport yep and there's such a believability in her performance that

spk_0 gets across and it's one of the highlights of the dub it's also very interesting because the thing

spk_0 with the Haragi family is that you're told not frequently but you're told often enough that

spk_0 Shinoa is for all intents and purposes she is the black sheep of the Haragi family where she herself

spk_0 has stated that they don't have high hopes for her like at all where she's just like oh I'm just

spk_0 here they know they they kind of lost all hope with me so I'm I just exist at this point

spk_0 but she's she's got a real control over her emotions in a way that is probably best exemplified by

spk_0 when she's explaining how her if they were to offer her a higher position in the military

spk_0 that she would just turn it down yeah that she's like she's comfortable where she's at and has

spk_0 no intentions of yeah following the career path that others and her family themselves pursue

spk_0 and then I think the other big important thing with Shinoa which I I think Felicia does

spk_0 phenomenally is she starts to question everything that she knows especially after you goes berserk

spk_0 for the very first time she she's like what is happening what is going on what is wrong with him so

spk_0 she uses her status for the first time to really start trying to ask the questions and find out

spk_0 more information um to not for the betterment of her position or her status but for the benefit

spk_0 but more for the benefit of someone that she cares about because like you said Megan she's

spk_0 she know what is not that great with people you you get the illusion that she is when you first

spk_0 meet her but she actually isn't and over the course of the show it's not just you who's

spk_0 learning to accept having a new family but it's also Shinoa who's who's learning to accept having

spk_0 a family as well so this is Shinoa's way of protecting her family is trying to uncover what actually

spk_0 is going on with you um over the whole course of the show and especially after we see him go berserk

spk_0 for the first time um it i really think Felicia is one of my favorite performances of the show itself

spk_0 as well um because she she she has a she's a fun sassy little goober and like again yay for

spk_0 elicit sexual relations and and and feel free and feel free to worship me as much as you like

spk_0 like she has some of the most fun one-liners in the show like no no bar none um but at the end of

spk_0 the day as well like Felicia manages to nail i feel Shinoa's um more intricate and complex

spk_0 moments and personality from her naivete to her insecurities to her

spk_0 um to her um her her her sense of emotion and her softness it kind of becomes this wall that she

spk_0 had put up from the beginning that she slowly starts to tear down along her she's interacting with

spk_0 the rest of her squad and and i feel like it's something that Felicia does very very well

spk_0 yeah there's a yeah there's some a lot given to her to do which uh is not given to a lot of the

spk_0 other characters in the show so yeah it's like goodness that um when given the opportunity to

spk_0 carry um a lot of hidden depth to it that Felicia came absolutely prepared to play and it's

spk_0 absolutely necessary to balance out the other dynamics we're gonna talk about in a second so

spk_0 yeah let's uh let's mention those dynamics which is essentially um we need to talk about two guys

spk_0 who probably for all intents of purposes we wish they had a happy ending it just wasn't in the

spk_0 card for them it's so meek poor poor meek uh oh my god it's so interesting to come and talk about

spk_0 this ten years later because this was the show that really put Justin Breiner on the map yeah

spk_0 yeah uh just mentioned earlier the beginning of the episode that something was about to pop off

spk_0 as yeah we would know Justin for yeah so basically basically this show would come out and Justin

spk_0 Breiner was a name that a lot of people really didn't know um and then a couple of about a year

spk_0 or a year later i think it was in 2016 yeah um the home release of uh garo the animation would come out

spk_0 and he was cast and that is one of the two lead characters alongside Rico for Harto who

spk_0 uh when this came out Rico for Harto it was also you know fairly a newer voice um and then you

spk_0 know about a year after this came out a tiny little show called my hero academia would change anime

spk_0 from the anime landscape right and Justin Breiner and Justin Breiner would play the titular decu um

spk_0 i think that Justin Breiner in as one of his first leading roles does a fantastic job

spk_0 i knew that it was actually very funny was uh when we did the original episode i was the only one

spk_0 who was on board with him yeah i was like no this kid's gonna be great

spk_0 this guy is going to be an all-timer he is going to become one of the best well-known english voice

spk_0 actors out there and this is such a solid performance and a lot of it is because he does a very

spk_0 convincing child voice um i thought his baby meeko was very well done and especially when it has to

spk_0 keep coming up in flashbacks but there is such a subtlety in the way that meekilah is as a little boy

spk_0 then he is as a vampire um there is a subdued nature to his emotions as a uh as a vampire it is as if

spk_0 he has had he has lost the will live and even if he gets it back by drinking used blood and having

spk_0 him back in his life it's not going to take away the you know years of what's been done to him

spk_0 and that he he was always very much hiding what he was doing from the others to you know give them a

spk_0 better life and Justin has this way of having like such a tiny growl to his voice when he is desperate

spk_0 and it bounces off the absolute like energy that ue tro's voice actor has and i think the really

spk_0 standout episode to me is the episode you and meeko where he finally drinks his blood and they

spk_0 finally get to have these conversations and he has some a bit of a child like petulant

spk_0 to him where it's like hey you know i'm a pretty good driver i thought you said you wanted us to

spk_0 survive and no you were the biggest crybaby in the world and i i i have such a new appreciation for

spk_0 this performance and how far Justin's comm is an actor um and fighting game competitor but i

spk_0 genuinely really really enjoyed it has very little to criticize on it it was very fortunate that he was

spk_0 you know just breaking into voice acting around the time they were looking to fill this role um one of

spk_0 the commentaries i think was the first episode commentary talked about how he had been started out

spk_0 in Maryland i think doing mostly theater stuff and was yes he can sing really well and i'm really

spk_0 mad more enemies having gotten to sing in them yeah what what gives anime like why aren't there more

spk_0 musical anime for letting Justin sing in them there should just be more musicals and

spk_0 anime is made into musicals we need more sirens on nice hell yeah let's go yes we do we need more

spk_0 boaches we need more sari's on my we need more no not idle anime i mean like full on musical theater

spk_0 right you're like your your uh reviews starlight kind of yeah musical productions yeah we could use more

spk_0 that i don't know why we don't but but you know what that's what kpop demon hunter is here for to

spk_0 pick up the slack so i guess you should probably then talk over about uh i was gonna one minute

spk_0 hi oh well me it's it's getting late i'm sorry it's okay it's okay it is getting late um

spk_0 um as as one of the aforementioned people who was hesitant about Justin Bryan or is mikaila

spk_0 uh ten years ago i mentioned earlier tonight that i i i got a new appreciation watching the show again

spk_0 and with mika with mika in particular because i finally understood what this performance

spk_0 was and what it was going for right and i i have a much better

spk_0 bigger appreciation for what Justin did with the role um like

spk_0 baby mika i'm not gonna lie is kind of adorable i'll say that upfront um but i want to talk about

spk_0 sixteen year old mika sixteen year old vampire mika because because there's a lot going on there

spk_0 because with with mika the biggest piece is he has this pert his this wall up he has this mask

spk_0 and this wall up in order to protect himself from all of the shit that he's gone through and that

spk_0 wall kind with that wall you get the sense of him playing along with the role he's now been given

spk_0 and the life that he's been thrown into as a vampire he gives mika more of this noble and

spk_0 regal heir to him like not pompous but you he's very quiet very very soft spoken at times but he has

spk_0 more of this noble tone that he gives to the performance however you do start to see that break

spk_0 every so often and especially when it comes to you you whenever mika gets to be with you

spk_0 Justin breaks out of that mold because he gets to finally be himself again in what what in

spk_0 or at least try to be himself again because the fact that he's had to put up this front for at least

spk_0 four years right and it's it's also to the point where he's been holding back his like he's been

spk_0 trying to hold back his his thirst for blood for so fucking long because he at this stage he has not

spk_0 had a drop of human blood he's only been surviving off of um cruel's blood up until the stage um

spk_0 because he does not want to complete the transition into a vampire so but it's very very interesting

spk_0 to see more of the come i like i'm i understand the complexity that Justin threw into the performance

spk_0 into mika's character i see that wall i see that mask mask that mika has to wear while he's

spk_0 with the vampires while he is with them and putting up this front and just trying to blend in and

spk_0 make sure nobody knows what the hell is going on and what his intentions are but i also see

spk_0 that broken that that broken 12 year old boy that lost his family who wants to have his family back

spk_0 i see every aspect of that character and it makes me appreciate Justin's performance even more

spk_0 now than i did 10 years ago so 10 years ago i was not it was not my favorite thing in the world

spk_0 but now it's become probably one of my favorite performances in the entire show because i finally

spk_0 understand what mika's deal is and what the goal that the goal and the performance that Justin gave

spk_0 for this character i finally understand it so it it's now turned into one of my favorite

spk_0 performances in the entire show because of that and rightfully deserved absolutely

spk_0 i mean that's it's a lot to take away like i'm really glad that you guys had um you know

spk_0 getting a positive reaction out of the 10 years that have transpired since uh covering this initially

spk_0 i mean what we'll get to um uh you reach your own a bit here but i don't feel like

spk_0 uh Sarah for the end has necessarily like stuck around in like the major lexicon or like

spk_0 it's not one of the shows from 2015 that a lot of people are revisiting i guess yeah

spk_0 um at least not in the circles that i go around with not that i know yeah no it is a it is a niche

spk_0 series it was kind of big when it came out but like people still ask for it yeah yeah i there were a lot

spk_0 of um they mentioned on the commentary there was like a lot of cosplayers for it like it definitely

spk_0 made people want to connect with it but yeah it's just didn't really stick around much longer

spk_0 after that initial wave outside of those who are still clamoring for a continuation as you said

spk_0 there's a lot of other material to be adapted from the source material

spk_0 but we should probably um uh give a round of applause to the i don't know if i'm gonna say a good

spk_0 guy necessarily but you know a family man we'll call he's a family man family

spk_0 family and his lucky there's a family guy

spk_0 oh Jesus freaking 24 episode quest to try to salvage whatever remnants of his family he can remember

spk_0 because his actual biological family were pieces of shit apparently oh god

spk_0 that was a weird thing to just drop in the very first episode of yeah my dad tried to kill me

spk_0 my mom's dad i was a demon sponsor so she killed her son

spk_0 cool story bro your family now

spk_0 Tika cool story bro you're my you're part of a family now family family

spk_0 so so let's get out of the way that um in those first episodes and flashbacks

spk_0 Micah has to play a young version of the character and it's not quite that convincing like it's

spk_0 very clearly a um adult male or young adult male trying to sound like a child decisions were made

spk_0 yeah this is one of the very times that off you did not step into play uh young Micah

spk_0 i actually had i was messaging so when i was when i started watching rewatching the show the

spk_0 other day i actually said this in chat and i asked begging this i weirdly enough distinctly remember

spk_0 and i think this is more on mika not mika um micah rather than justin where i feel like the simul dub

spk_0 originally pitched micah up a little higher in first phase to hit him and then just for like

spk_0 fuck the sounds bad put it back yeah i because i watched the whole because i have the home video obviously

spk_0 so i watched all my videos and i'm like this sounds more like micah it is natural stay and i'm like i

spk_0 weirdly remember him being pitched up in the simul dub i'm like huh so it was really weird i'm like

spk_0 they must i i can't remember if anybody else remembers that and if it was a change over from the um

spk_0 from the simul dub i'm thinking maybe it was right maybe it wasn't as bad of a it wasn't as

spk_0 distinct of a change for jenston but it was definitely a drastic change from what i remember of

spk_0 mika put him back in the water and the sad thing is it's like if that was true if the original

spk_0 version that was put out for audiences online did pitch his voice up uh there's probably no

spk_0 remnants of that anymore like that version probably just been scrubbed from the internet

spk_0 sadly i'm gonna defend it and i actually think his child voice isn't that bad

spk_0 it's not it's not horrible but what's really weird too is like

spk_0 some of the other flashbacks after episode one they do have it as a tiny bit pitched up compared to

spk_0 what happened with episode one it's a it's a small enough distinct

spk_0 difference that i noticed it especially because of the fact that i questioned that it changed over

spk_0 in episode one between the simul dub to the home video release so it's very very weird

spk_0 how the home video release handled it in general to be honest with you

spk_0 hmm yeah i'll agree that it's it's noticeable but it's not a deal breaker it's like the kind of

spk_0 thing where i can understand why you would have the same actor doing his normal voice also do it for

spk_0 the younger voice instead of getting a um getting a a female voice actress to who can sound like a

spk_0 little boy do it instead um but if it is a noticeable choice and i'm sure at the time they thought

spk_0 it's just more i don't know like time efficient to just have micah do a full set of voice in the studio

spk_0 but you know what that doesn't matter overall because his actual performance uh runs the gambit

spk_0 of emotions and uh pretty much talks about the park i i didn't really hear a section where it sounded

spk_0 sour or miscast for misacted and because we see most of the show through his eyes it's a good thing

spk_0 he can carry the whole show because that means that we care enough to keep watching and engaging with

spk_0 it i'm not gonna lie i thought you were gonna say it's a good thing he has eyes for a second

spk_0 well it is not not the first time uh micah has played a um uh character who is supposed to be a um

spk_0 uh it was supposed to be a young boy and uh maybe sounds a little older than he actually is

spk_0 yeah yeah this fall children was a fun movie this this is this falls into the camp of i don't give a

spk_0 shit that he sounds a little too old it's awesome um i i love micah so it's how this you eat your

spk_0 ojakia he is an absolute delight he has all of the energy all of the anger all of the bravado

spk_0 it's it's a very weird thing to say that like the entire time i was watching this show

spk_0 it reminded me of another character that micah never played and that is you eat your ojakia comes

spk_0 in the bloodline of kameel bedan the man who punched out his soldier stolen Gundam and caused an

spk_0 entire war oh my god and if they ever read up zeta Gundam in texas he is who i would want to play

spk_0 kameel bedan i absolutely love micah as you eat your ojakia he is absolutely perfect there is no

spk_0 flaws in this performance at all i do not give a shit if it's weird technical misfunctions or everything

spk_0 i think that he nails this performance he is this character he absolutely gets these over the top

spk_0 family is everything moment these the absolute bitter rage in his heart over losing everything and

spk_0 having to come back he gets the comedy down well like when he is in even an episode two when he

spk_0 is like oh man i can get out of here if you suspend me while everybody i was glad reading you all

spk_0 see me in therapy i can go if i'm expelled hell yeah yeah let's get out of here like

spk_0 and and just those moments of absolute gentleness like when you remember all of like

spk_0 i don't need just the level of it like he's not a himbo he's not beefy enough that is a twink

spk_0 yes yes but he's just like i don't remember the names of people i'm gonna kill but i'm

spk_0 to remember the names of people i have to protect it's like god you were so stupid

spk_0 yes a dumbass what we love him it's like like i mean like it like the thing is like

spk_0 he's not actually stupid like it's very clear he is just you know uneducated and stunted

spk_0 but god the man has no sense of self preservation just like uh the part where i think i

spk_0 wrote it in chat where um where was where did i put it in the chat was um

spk_0 uh yeah what's the worst going to do to me is like the most loaded gun statement in the entire show

spk_0 by the way that he puts together um

spk_0 you in episode 21 goes on and gives a full snow flame

spk_0 um oh yeah please don't tell me i'm dead again

spk_0 like oh i just put me can't wait if you knew how little we're going for his life you

spk_0 sure always had on this road to find you

spk_0 Jesus Christ you need your huckier will not die because snow flame feels no pain

spk_0 that's right

spk_0 yeah the man gets he gets all the high points he gets all of the the best uh not i made all the best

spk_0 moments but he gets a lot of the the great liner one liners that i i think in any other character

spk_0 he would be maybe a little too unlikable just in being his like hot headed um i'm just going to do

spk_0 what i want and screw everybody else mentality but he's got just enough heart to him and micah

spk_0 plays up that element to it like the the sentimental side to it that it carries us through the

spk_0 series without falling into the trap of dislike in the character yeah i it's i do like i do like

spk_0 like micah as as you eat your own like you is he was a fucking dumbass he's i like i like you because

spk_0 he is a lone wolf shown in protagonist who wants who who doesn't give a shit about anyone at least

spk_0 that's what you think it he he you think because he just wants to like keep everyone at arms

spk_0 length because he doesn't want to like hurt get anyone hurt because of him again because he lost

spk_0 his family it's all about family um but the longer you you you see it and you watch micah's

spk_0 performances you you realize that you you can be a big fucking softy you is probably one of the

spk_0 biggest softies in the entire goddamn show to be honest like his he cares about his his friends he

spk_0 cares about the people around him he wants everybody to come out alive and he wants to put

spk_0 put an end to all of the violence and the war that's been going on between the humans and the vampires

spk_0 but he inadvertently is unfortunately getting dragged into it even more so than what you would expect

spk_0 in more ways than one like it's it's very interesting to see use progression from lone wolf leave

spk_0 me the fuck a low I don't need anybody in my life to I'm going to do everything I can to protect

spk_0 the people I love and care about the most and micah I feel portrays that very very well um

spk_0 side note him as the king of salt oh fucking great

spk_0 oh sorry no no salt be upon me him is yeah him as the king of salt is fucking great where he

spk_0 where we finally get at the reveal where he's like what the fuck was it called the second trumpet

spk_0 or some shit yeah this says like I forget like seven trumpets on the back of the

spk_0 bunch of something it was the seventh trumpet yeah no there are seven trumpets there are seven

spk_0 trumpets but he's the second like the king of salt and like he goes full on not demon but like full

spk_0 unpossessed kind of deal and it kind of turns to this are the worldly like all of the sinners are

spk_0 going to be punished you shall be judged this earth shall be cleansed kind of deal to channel flute

spk_0 she had to do it on the flute um and then the fact that you is willing to sacrifice himself in order to

spk_0 save everyone by going with and using this forbidden power like even his last conversation

spk_0 of ashramaro he he's like I I know this is a stupid idea ashramaro but if this is going to help

spk_0 my friends I I don't have much choice like I'm gonna do it this is gonna be what I do to help my

spk_0 friends like is at the end of the day you as a big fucking softy he's a tough boy but he's a

spk_0 fucking softy and and and every bad aspect of this character I think Michael pulls off very very well

spk_0 yeah there's not really any critiques I can really pull from this it but yeah it has the full

spk_0 range in the parts that it makes you laugh and it's supposed to it gets your heartstrings where

spk_0 it's supposed to do that and at the end of the day you're just sad that we didn't find out why he

spk_0 was walking into the ocean let me just go and out for a walk I guess so it's it's not stars align

spk_0 levels of cliffhanger waist end to show but it's up there

spk_0 she watched it a couple years ago with me um I think that the dub is a lot of fun I I do think that

spk_0 maybe you some eye specs of it maybe have an age as well but I also think that it's still really

spk_0 fun and that Micah and Justin who are the big emotional cores of the show do an amazing job getting

spk_0 that across um I would definitely say if you can find a copy check it out unfortunately it's not

spk_0 streaming anymore and this upsets me greatly um but uh you owe it to yourself at least you sit

spk_0 through Sarah for the end once if to only under splay if to only understand how the inner

spk_0 machinations of a fujoshi's mind works I can't deny that like damn and like there's there's being gay

spk_0 and there's whatever you and Micah got going on oh but their family they were adopted

spk_0 I'm just like all right I'm just here I'm just gonna sit here and just watch it I guess we're here

spk_0 for for for a time and then like I'm I'm actually kind I'm actually really happy that we're revisiting

spk_0 it now because here we are 10 years later I revisit the show and I actually oh man what are

spk_0 you doing creepy girl we're here 10 years later we're revisiting the show and I actually have a

spk_0 much I think I appreciate a lot more than I originally thought and I like it a lot more than I

spk_0 originally thought it's it's it's fun stupid it's still full of stupid won't lie but it needs to

spk_0 be reiterated more than one yes 100 percent um but I also had a lot more fun with it this time

spk_0 around than I did before and and it's one of those weird situations where I feel like the older I get

spk_0 the less hypercritical I get about different things like I like 10 years ago if y'all listen to

spk_0 the original episodes were recovered serif twice I was very very hypercritical of the show and the

spk_0 dub and what it was doing now I'm just sitting here and I'm like you know the show it's not gonna

spk_0 it's not something the right home about the story is wackado and the characters are not exactly the

spk_0 most well-written but at the end of the day it's still a actually a fun popcorn angsty little show that

spk_0 I actually find some enjoyment out of and it's fun to revisit as for the dub itself it it's I say

spk_0 50 50 in terms of how well it holds up there are some performances that holds are are serviceable

spk_0 that are okay that may not hold or may not hold up as well today 10 years later and there are

spk_0 some performances where I have completely changed my tune on that I finally that I originally

spk_0 had a huge issue with and now I just completely understand like now I understand what the what the

spk_0 take was what the direction was on it and I have much bigger appreciation for those performances

spk_0 than I did 10 years ago so I'm no I am so fucking happy that this is the show you decide to pick

spk_0 when we were doing the retrospective series for the gear because it's given me the opportunity

spk_0 to really revisit and to kind of reevaluate my thoughts on the show and and I'm and I'm as we speak

spk_0 I'm not gonna lie the part of the reason why I've been kind of quiet is I'm actually reading the manga

spk_0 online right now oh my god there's no going back why would you do that are you starting from the

spk_0 beginning I am starting from the beginning yes I'm on chapter four right now I'm on chapter four

spk_0 but no this has all of the god you just dropped us like you just dropped it on us like

spk_0 something Sam Reich would jump on on the friendly Mulligan dude I did ask Andrew before we started

spk_0 recording like hey can you give me your log in for your show to jump up he's like yeah he's like

spk_0 the manga is on here so yep I so here we go but no like I think overall it's you're I feel like

spk_0 I agree with Megan this is a show that you should at least see once if you can again not something

spk_0 the right home about it's not gonna be the biggest critical darling of the known fucking decade

spk_0 or the century but it is a bunch of stupid fun and I feel like you're gonna get some enjoyment out

spk_0 of it some one way or another you will you will know the mindset of Hudo Shib by the end of it

spk_0 correct also true it will convert you one way or another but yeah well I got to I guess I'd

spk_0 side on the less enthusiastic side from my rewatch on this and from finally getting to cross it

spk_0 off of the covered for dub talk side um the dub is like is perfectly fine like we talked about the

spk_0 changes to some of the cast members voices to be more unique rather than completely matching the

spk_0 Japanese approved of those some of the dub writing to make it more overt and less subtle as if

spk_0 it needed to be any more subtle was welcomed in it and comparing it to modern dubbing like because

spk_0 again this is a 10 year old dub now I don't think anyone would think that it was it has any age on it

spk_0 it's certainly not something that has any of the earmarks of being flawed by writing or acting

spk_0 standards um and that's again it's a shame that the show is not readily available online anymore

spk_0 or on home video really it's not it's just kind of one of those things that fell through the cracks

spk_0 of licensing so I'm glad that we got a chance to revisit this whole experience and yeah it's not

spk_0 really something I think I'm going to be rewatching anytime soon but between the action and the

spk_0 emotions of the core cast not the supporting cast which all kind of exist but the main cast

spk_0 is at least enough to give it a slight recommendation and I think that's about the highest praise you

spk_0 can give to something that finally took 10 years to finish finally got this done so Megan thank you

spk_0 so much for the home video copy thank you for encouraging me to check this out and now finally

spk_0 I have a good understanding as to why you were so adamant about getting me to watch this in the

spk_0 first place it's not the best show but it'll do pig that'll do well let's wrap this up by just

spk_0 telling everyone where can you watch the show if you want to and the answer is nowhere absolutely no

spk_0 legal services you can buy it literally per episode on apple and amazon though this is true okay

spk_0 manga's by viz and then if you are interested in the gurren you say catastrophe at 16

spk_0 um I believe those are put those are being published by codancha actually okay okay so um yeah the yeah

spk_0 yeah those were put out by codancha and then uh

spk_0 you're trying to find media not the anime music CD games you check for media

spk_0 um late novels here gurren uh I don't think uh story of vampire mccala was ever put out in the

spk_0 West which is a light novel based on mika uh and then the uh okay yeah and then uh

spk_0 serve in the end gurren each annosey resurrection at 19 is put out by codancha in the us

spk_0 okay really surprising that for a franchise that only produced one two season anime there's so many

spk_0 available spinoffs of light novels and manga for it you would be surprised I would be indeed well
