Disney here and a little background. So we're gonna jump into cruise line

Can't wait to talk about that. I'm gonna get like a little Disney cruise line background

But uh, give us your Disney backstory like when did you become a Disney fan and all that so

I've been a Disney fan pretty much my whole life since I was a kid
spk_0
My sister and I watched all the movies
spk_0
um
spk_0
We went a couple times my grandparents lived in winner Haven, Florida
spk_0
um, so we went for like day trips a couple times when I was a kid and then I went for the first time as an adult
spk_0
uh with my sister and
spk_0
We just we had a blast and we've been going ever since and that was in
spk_0
2011 when I was still in college
spk_0
um
spk_0
So now I I've been on a
spk_0
More of a Disney cruise
spk_0
Uh kind of kind of vibes, you know um
spk_0
So I've been this that was I just completed my fourth
spk_0
um since
spk_0
2022
spk_0
um, and then I'm actually have another one planned next well this month now in October
spk_0
um, so after that I'll be uh, I'll be gold after that nice get that sweet
spk_0
Planned-yered and you know build it up build that castaway club membership up now
spk_0
Let me ask you one thing about the parks and then we'll uh because I we had this question Scott

Now we're talking about this the other day and I'm curious I've been asking everybody that I know about this

What's one thing that you got to experience in the past that's gone that if you could bring it back you would

Like from your fandom days

Something yeah you could

Um, I mean, I loved the great movie ride obviously good call that's that's um and then I really like the catastrophe canyon

Scott always talks about that too. It's yeah

I mean that reminds me kind of like of

Of universal in a way of their back lot tour. Yep

um Disney

But I I like that. I remember that when I was I going on that when I was a kid

um, and then they had that uh like a

Honey I shrunk the audience um

Playground yeah, and like we have you know the old pictures of my sister and I

Uh

Playing on on that like oversized stuff. So

Yes, I I miss all of that

Yeah, it's hard to say whether the studios was better back then because it was just so different
spk_0
It was it was a totally different park uh back then you know
spk_0
Yeah, like the back lot you had the residential street with like the gold girls house you had
spk_0
You know during the holidays Osborne lights

Such a great. I mean, it's like if you think about it like 2025

studios compared to say
spk_0
1993 90 you know 2000 distance out you know MGM

It's almost like they've totally just made a new park
spk_0
You know, there's not a whole lot that's the same. I guess tower and rock and roll

Even those weren't there the whole time. It's it's such a different experience. Yeah, it's really different

I think like those two things are the same and then the Indiana Jones show was there
spk_0
That's true. That's what I mean hanging. Yeah, it's a miracle that's still there. I can't believe it

Yeah, and it's about about the same. I don't know that they've changed anything in that show
spk_0
It's true and you got Gurdie. Gurdie's been hanging out this whole
spk_0
Oh, yeah, Gurdie. It's a dinosaur. So I guess that makes sense

All right, so let's jump into the cruise thing
spk_0
So what what got you initially to go on your first cruise because you've you've obviously been bitten by the bug pretty hard here
spk_0
But tell us about the first time you went on a cruise like what what made you decide to make that leap?
spk_0
Well, I had never been on one before
spk_0
And like one of my friends from work said oh well
spk_0
I have gone on several let's just go
spk_0
And that was carnival and then
spk_0
It was fine, you know everything everything good
spk_0
They they're people try really hard to
spk_0
Make you have a good time as well and they're very nice and service is good
spk_0
um, so the next time we tried royal Caribbean and
spk_0
We were on harmony of the seas and that was a Mediterranean cruise
spk_0
So that was my second cruise ever
spk_0
Was a Mediterranean cruise
spk_0
Um, and that was great like I don't have any complaints about that. I
spk_0
Stopped three times in Italy
spk_0
And that was amazing
spk_0
And then after that I haven't I actually haven't been on a different ship
spk_0
Other than Disney since I've been on a Disney ship
spk_0
So like the last four that I've done have been all
spk_0
DCL

Just because I I love the park so much and then
spk_0
I'm a DVC member

Um, so I'm like well, let's try cruise line and you know, I love that too

Nice nice. It's cool, but you have those other lines to compare to so that's pretty pretty interesting

So what was your first experience with with Disney cruise on what was your first like a tenorarian ship?
spk_0
Um, it was a four-nighter on the wish um
spk_0
It was a very maritime cruise
spk_0
So uh, I mean, it's kind of hard to compare to like a harmony of the seas
spk_0
Especially like a med cruise because the longer it's uh, you know, obviously more exotic ports you're seeing
spk_0
I mean, it's just it is what it is. I mean, but more exciting parts of the world than in the Bahamas
spk_0
But what what what was your
spk_0
What did you think of the wish cruise when you when you had that that first experience with Disney cruise line?
spk_0
Since I was
spk_0
Since the wish was the first ship
spk_0
Disney ship that I was on I just I instantly like loved it. I loved the theming
spk_0
The layout of it didn't bother me because I didn't know any better
spk_0

I don't know. I just I I really liked the the coloring and the aesthetic

The people were great
spk_0
State room host was amazing
spk_0
Dining staff were great
spk_0
Um, I thought the food actually was really good and just the main dining

Yeah, and I like I don't know. I just I really liked just the feel of
spk_0
the ship the look of the ship um, and then
spk_0
Um since I live in Michigan
spk_0
I I just I like to get away when it's cold so
spk_0
Warm weather cruises. I I'm all over those. Yeah, it's good call

Yeah, anybody from the Midwest. Yes, you know, when you can

All right, so let's because we want to talk about this unique itinerary sales you sailed the
spk_0
Fantasy which is now in dry dock by the way is your is your hearing this you know live or you know when it comes out this week
spk_0
Dry docking over in Europe, but before it was sailing over in Europe and you got to sail this Norway itinerary which
spk_0
Yes, Scotty G did this on real Caribbean a couple summers ago and he actually is the reason we have in the clubhouse that live
spk_0
The channel there where people post live updates. He started that while he was on screws and I was like man
spk_0
It's awesome to post live photos from like your trip and then we just kept it going and when he's posting his pictures
spk_0
I was texting him at the same time. I was like Scott
spk_0
This pictures don't look real. I was like seriously. They look fake like I mean just like the you know the towns
spk_0
They look like little
spk_0
Like paintings, you know, and yeah, the the sky is like too blue
spk_0
You know the waters to to like greenish blue and you know turquoise and like for real dude
spk_0
You're punking me like this. It's gorgeous where you are and he's like no man for real. I'm here

He's like I'm not messing with you. He's like it is really cool
spk_0
But so you got to see gorgeous places, but let's get back to this. So what made you pick
spk_0
For this cruise that we're gonna talk about like how did this come about like?
spk_0
Why did you pick this cruise and like who sailed with you and all that stuff
spk_0
Yeah, so it's um
spk_0
I was looking in May I just happened to look every few months at the discounted cruises
spk_0
That Disney has like on sale or on special or whatever you want to say
spk_0
Um, and then they had this they had a few European itineraries
spk_0
listed and
spk_0
There was a few you know like shorter cruises like three-nighters
spk_0
um, I think they were like had stops in Spain
spk_0
And I had been to Spain before and I really liked it
spk_0
But I was looking to go somewhere I hadn't gone before and I saw this Norway. I tenorary was
spk_0
heavily discounted for some reason and um
spk_0

spk_0
I'd kind of jumped on it. I'm like hey
spk_0
uh
spk_0
This seems really interesting
spk_0
I've never been there before
spk_0
um, I would kind of like to go and the price is right so
spk_0
um, my travel buddy from work went with me and um
spk_0
Yeah, she was not hard to convince either like she she hadn't been there either
spk_0
That's a good friend
spk_0
Yeah, that's the vibe that's like hey, you know what let's go. It's good to have a buddy like that
spk_0
I hear yeah, so you so you guys just book this and
spk_0
Okay, so let's jump into it. So you guys fly from michigan to
spk_0
London was yeah, there's any problems with because I you've obviously done a lot of spare national travel sounds like so you got this down
spk_0
But any tips for folks doing something like this because a lot of folks is be the first time doing something like this
spk_0
Yeah, um I
spk_0
I am lucky enough to live near Detroit metro airport. So it's uh delta hubs. So they fly
spk_0
Oh
spk_0
So many places direct
spk_0
um, you know several times a day even
spk_0
um, so I I got on you know the delta app and
spk_0
looked for I was looking at between um south hampton, which is where the cruise port is
spk_0
Also has an airport, um, but it was more expensive to fly into there
spk_0
um, so I chose to fly into Heathrow
spk_0
um direct from Detroit
spk_0
to London
spk_0
and um same same as like the way back uh same thing it was direct
spk_0
um
spk_0
and uh
spk_0
Basically just chose it because it was cheaper than the smaller airport right and you guys had transfers and how did the transfers work out for you?
spk_0
Yeah, are they okay um the transfers were fine it was a big like
spk_0
Mercedes coach bus
spk_0
um very comfortable um the ship actually the fantasy was like two hours late docking
spk_0
in south hampton that morning because it was too windy um so that kind of delayed the the shuttles
spk_0
We're a little bit late coming up to Heathrow from south hampton
spk_0
But the representative there at the airport
spk_0
You know said just you know hang around here and it'll get here when it gets here
spk_0
um just look for a big ship coming around the corner there it is yeah
spk_0
Yeah, so um it's uh the shuttle picked us up about half hour
spk_0
Or so after it was supposed to and that you know it was perfectly fine um
spk_0
We had to go to a different
spk_0
At Heathrow to pick up more people
spk_0
um
spk_0
uh and Heathrow is huge it took like 20 minutes to drive to the other terminal yeah
spk_0
So the sheer size of
spk_0
of the airport
spk_0
um so we did it took about an hour or so to get down to the port um
spk_0
Our arrival time was like
spk_0
supposed to be 10 30 to
spk_0
11 we ended up getting there closer to one um just
spk_0
Because of the delay with the boat and then with the shuttles
spk_0
um but we walked right on it was really easy um very easy to navigate they had signs
spk_0
That were very clear on where to go um we basically just walked onto the ship once we got there
spk_0
um we went up to kabanas
spk_0
For lunch and then the rooms were actually ready early which has never happened
spk_0
Yeah in my experience before yeah um and then um this is another weird thing where
spk_0
The ship had to sit in the harbor still until 10 p.m. That night
spk_0
um because the water was so
spk_0
Like churned up and it was still very windy
spk_0
So we were just hanging out in the at the port till 10 o'clock at night
spk_0
Um which is also very unusual. I'd never had that happen before either
spk_0
And that was the first time I'd ever experienced any polo
spk_0
And um I have a picture on the discord of the wines that they served and then
spk_0
um they did actually serve like four bite-sized portions from pollo um that was made right there
spk_0
Everything was excellent um that was a great experience
spk_0
Uh, it's kind of akin to one of the wine tastings that they do on the ship um but
spk_0
A little bit more of an elevated experience
spk_0
um
spk_0
Yep, so that was great. I would highly recommend that
spk_0
um
spk_0
Anybody has any questions about that like I I'm happy to answer them on the discord um

We also after that went to the main dining uh we started the rotation in um
spk_0
Uh roo court um
spk_0
And our serving team was fantastic the food was all great uh
spk_0
And I think after that we went to some sort of entertainment in the tube
spk_0
uh down in the district there and um
spk_0
I remember whatever gulp was going on down there was was pretty fantastic like I remember it was it
spk_0
It was very enjoyable. I was laughing. It was like a game show type thing going on. I love those
spk_0
Yeah, yeah
spk_0
and
spk_0
Uh by then I think we were rolling out of the out of the port um and then it was time for bed
spk_0
That's so weird to be sailing away like it's at a cock at night
spk_0
Yeah, it was it was bizarre uh
spk_0
And then yep the next next two days were sea days um
spk_0
Water in the north sea was a little choppy like the I think the captain said that was about 12-foot swells
spk_0
At one point uh, which was and you know a little bit uh worse than
spk_0
The Caribbean yeah, I think the worst that gets is like eight to ten so 12 wasn't too bad
spk_0
I wasn't bothered by any of the motion or anything and I didn't hear of other people that were affected by it much either
spk_0
um
spk_0
But that was just kind of just something to note um
spk_0
And um those two days we didn't do much. I mean we went to some trivia's and uh, you know got the
spk_0
Uh, hit up the the ice cream uh ice cream station there. Yes. Uh, yep it
spk_0
You know everything was great. They still had the pools open even though
spk_0
It was about 40 degrees the whole time and raining
spk_0
And a fall sloshing too with uh, oh yeah
spk_0
Yeah, the deck was wet. You kind of had to be careful um
spk_0
Between the rain and the the water out of the pool sloshing around
spk_0
um
spk_0
Yeah, so it was just it was different like
spk_0
um
spk_0
Whether wasn't very cooperative the whole time it was kind of gray and
spk_0
uh
spk_0
Wet the whole time but
spk_0
um cruise line actually uh like when we stopped
spk_0
Every day they were um actually handing out ponchos
spk_0
For free when you got off the ship
spk_0
um
spk_0
I'd never seen that before you I'd never heard of that but that's awesome. I mean you should yeah
spk_0
Yeah, and they had the like the Disney parks logos on them. So
spk_0
That was like a free 25 bucks right there that
spk_0
Ha ha ha ha
spk_0
it's like I tried to eat my way back with cookies. That's uh it's uh, yeah like ponchos, but that's nice. Yeah exactly so

they were they were aware of, you know,
spk_0
how the weather was and
spk_0
um
spk_0
That was that was nice I'd not experience that before um
spk_0
The first stop was in old and norway and um if you watch uh must he adventures
spk_0
I did the exact same excursion that Scotty G did
spk_0
and then...
spk_0
For his YouTube channel right there.

Yeah.
spk_0
And then, so that was,
spk_0
we rode what they call troll cars
spk_0
up to the bottom of a glacier.
spk_0
And, you know, that was fine.
spk_0
There's parts that are a little steep
spk_0
and it was a little bit slippery since it was raining.
spk_0
But neither of us had any trouble,
spk_0
you know, getting there.
spk_0
I think they say if you have mobility issues,
spk_0
it says right on the,
spk_0
like, excursion when you're booking it,
spk_0
that it's probably not a good idea.
spk_0
I don't think they allowed anyone with wheelchair.
spk_0
You know, that had to have a wheelchair.
spk_0
Those were not allowed on this excursion.
spk_0
But I thought it was great.
spk_0
The pictures were spectacular.
spk_0
That water is just as green as it was in the pictures.
spk_0
That, so you could stay up there as, you know,
spk_0
until the time where the guide said,
spk_0
okay, yeah, time to go.
spk_0
So it was, it was about an hour if you wanted.
spk_0
You could stay up there, hang out, take pictures,
spk_0
until it was time to walk back to the troll cars
spk_0
to go back down.
spk_0
And they had a little gift shop there.
spk_0
And, I mean, the shopping, I would say,
spk_0
it was not great in all of Norway.
spk_0
I was kind of disappointed because I'm a little bit of a shopper.
spk_0
So I expected to see, like, some kind of,
spk_0
I don't know, shops with like actual nice stuff in them.
spk_0
But it was, the shopping was very disappointing on these ports.
spk_0
So that's just something to keep in mind.
spk_0
If you're not a shopper, it's not going to bother you.
spk_0
They had a lot of like local restaurants and pubs.
spk_0
At the other two ports that we stopped at.
spk_0
So I'll get to that in a minute.

So at the end of the excursion in olden,
spk_0
we took the bus back to the cruise port.
spk_0
And there's actually a sky lift,
spk_0
one of the tallest sky lifts in the world.
spk_0
You could see the cruise ship from the top of the,
spk_0
from the lift that it was really cool.
spk_0
You could see forever.
spk_0
Unfortunately, it was kind of cloudy, foggy.
spk_0
But, you know, it's just the look of the draw, I guess.
spk_0
Still got to take some cool pictures up there.
spk_0
There's a restaurant up at the top that has a bar.
spk_0
And it's basically all glass, the walls.
spk_0
So that was a really neat experience.
spk_0
You can walk down close to the glass and take pictures out of there as well.
spk_0
That was a neat experience.

Not something I have to do again, just.
spk_0
But I'm glad I did it once.
spk_0
I would recommend everybody do it once.

It does sound cool.

It sounds super cool.

Yeah.

So that night back on the ship, it was pirate night.

It bizarre.
spk_0
So, you know, they don't do fireworks in Europe.
spk_0
They only do them in the Bahamas or Caribbean.
spk_0
And at the same time, it was actually like the menu and all of the restaurants were frozen, like inspired.
spk_0
So it was just, it was bizarre.
spk_0
I think I just, I had a little bit of a fever that night.
spk_0
And then like this pirate and frozen.
spk_0
I don't know, it was like kind of a.
spk_0
It just felt like a weird fever dream.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
It's kind of weird.
spk_0
So in the atrium, they had the pirate show.
spk_0
And, you know, in the dining rooms, they had the frozen, frozen inspired fair.
spk_0
And I think also that night, my roommate had a spa.
spk_0
Like a Swedish massage.
spk_0
And she said that she would recommend it.
spk_0
I mean, they do a great job.
spk_0
It's just, it's super expensive.
spk_0
And the tip is included.
spk_0
So it's just something extra to be aware of.

When you're going into those experiences.

I've never, I did want to Royal, which was our honeymoon forever ago.

But I've never done one on a cruise line.

I didn't cruise that at all.

So I'm going to try to maybe summarize because it is going to be, it is going to be really hard to edit the rest of the way.

So when you went to, on day five, where was that excursion to?

So I'm just going to try to hit you with some highlights here so we can get it.

I want to try to make sure we get somebody over this.

So where, where did you stop for day five for that excursion?
spk_0
So that was Allison Norway, which was the northernmost point that we stopped.
spk_0
Okay. So the northern most, so what was the highlight there when you got off the ship?
spk_0
Like what you said, there were some pubs and restaurants and stuff like that.
spk_0
More of these other two ports.
spk_0
See that's something I would really enjoy.
spk_0
You know, just getting a little local flair.
spk_0
So you got some of that there.
spk_0
Yes. So there was like fish and chip stands, like pubs that were around there.
spk_0
They're all really close to the port.
spk_0
So you could walk to all of them and not worry about like getting lost or not being able to get back to the ship.
spk_0
We walked around town after we went on our excursion, which was a fjords cruise.
spk_0
So yeah. So we got off our ship, got on to a smaller little boat.
spk_0
That traveled down very close to the rock formations.
spk_0
And through the fjords, which that water is very flat.
spk_0
Very calm.
spk_0
And the captain was talking the whole time and telling us about different things that like historically, like, you know, what's gone on here.
spk_0
Some little like geography things about about the area and then they were going slow enough that you could take pictures and videos, stuff like that.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I would love that stuff because I love like the history, the geography, you know, some kind of local expert telling me like what has happened.

I eat that stuff up.
spk_0
Like, you know, back then here, this is the spot, like you're in this spot now.
spk_0
Like I tell me more like that's, and you know, you, that's why you go to Norway, right, for fjords.

And I mean, that was it was it was it what you were expecting.

I mean, did you really get a kick out of that?
spk_0
Yeah, it was that was great.
spk_0
I love hearing locals talk about where they live.
spk_0
It was it was amazing.
spk_0
He, the captain knew a lot about, you know, everything, which I feel like they should.
spk_0
So it he was very informative.
spk_0
And then we went an hour and a half out and then an hour and a half back.
spk_0

So they belong to like a local farmer.

I mean, I love the stage shows.

So they the fantasy right now has a lad in and frozen and believe.

And then they also had a couple of, you know, different acts from the UK.

That there was a magician on the ship that he was amazing.

He's going to he said he was going to be on the dream next summer.

When it goes back to Europe.

His name is Jamie Raven.

And he was very entertaining.

I went to his show in the tube.

And then in the Walt Disney theater.

And he it was two different shows.

And he was very good both nights.

Very funny guy.

Would highly recommend going to see him.

Yeah, I love when you get to see like somebody in the Walt Disney theater.

Like these variety acts.

But then when you get to see him in the adult area.

Because obviously you're up closer.

It's a smaller venue.

And they kind of spice up the show just a little bit.

And it's you know, they and also usually they have more like crowd participation in that later night show.

And it's always a little bit more fun.

I do enjoy that.

They really kind of bring the spice and the heat to that show, which is.

They're always.

Because sometimes like a knife juggler or you know, who knows what's going to be.

But it's only I can tell you what those people are always ten times worth their money.

And then on the last night, they had chocolate lava cake, which is like my favorite thing.

I mean, it's it saved a little bit of money.

And I thought it would feel claustrophobic, but the room is actually a little bigger.

It, you know, like, so I didn't miss it at all.

I would definitely book another room with the port hole.

Yeah, those big port holes.

They make the room not claustrophobic at all.

Because it's a large port hole with seating.

Where you can actually kind of like the panicking.

And the little kids love that.

Because we got that a couple times.

Now, let me ask you this.

So we talked about the wish earlier.

Now that you've been on the fantasy in the wish and you kind of see how the ships flow.

Because you're on, you know, the fantasy now for seven nights and you're on the wish for four.

What do you think about the layouts?

Do you see what people are saying now because like a deck four going all the way around and just.

But I mean, I'm fine because like I've been on the treasure now, but on the wish like they have the same, the same class.

I like variety in the ships.

I don't, I like the fantasy better.

I think because it's kind of my original dream.

I've been on the dream a bunch of times too.

So I just, that's kind of like my, like my default.

And I'm very set in my ways and everything in my life.

So this is how I am.

But I have no problem with the way to the treasure either.

But I just, it just feels like the fantasy and the dream flow better to me.

But I mean, what is your, what are your thoughts on that?

I do appreciate the, you know, the fact that the dream and the fantasy do flow better.

Like it, it's pretty just intuitive to get around on those.

You know, there's not really any kind of disjointed parts there.

And then like the three elevator banks, like forward, middle, aft.
spk_0
I mean, that's, it's simple.
spk_0
Like it's, it makes sense.

The, I guess the reason the wish didn't like the elevator thing didn't bother me at all,

because I didn't know any better.

But there are a few spots on the wish where it's kind of confusing.

Like you can't get from.

Floor, like, where you play bingo, I can't remember the name of the, the, the room.

Yeah, I get a moon.

It's like Luna.

Yes, yes, yeah, I never talked about where you, you can't get from the top to the bottom there.

Yeah, like you have to go down the hall and like down stairs or something.
spk_0
Like, I don't know.

There's just a few places there on the wish that.

Um, kind of like, I don't know.
spk_0
They sort of forgot something, but then couldn't put it back in because.
spk_0
I have a theory that they came up with that plan during COVID.
spk_0
And they're really worried about keeping like segmented like parts of the ship.
spk_0
Yeah, I mean, I, this is just my thing.
spk_0
And I, I cannot believe that they would build a ship like.
spk_0
For, that's going to last for 30 years.
spk_0
Like for that time period, but it feels like they really thought about like making smaller segmented spaces on the wish class ships.

But, but I mean, it was developed very COVID and I feel like that is very evident in that ship.
spk_0
And it doesn't have like a bit because like, you know, the, I'll be other ships kind of like an open floor plan like for a house.

And this one right, those are not, but.
spk_0
Because I mean, like the wish and the treasure have that, um, hero zone, which is just killer.

I love that multi purpose area where you know, you can shoot baskets and go up and play ping pong and it's all inside.

That's so much better. I mean, they have way better.

They have, you know, lots of, you know, bars spread out around the ship.
spk_0
That's awesome.

They have festival foods on the wish and the treasure.

That's a great idea.

You know, like a little food court.

I mean, there's a lot.

It's different.

So, you know, it's, it's, I like the variety of the, that they're, they're coming out with now in the.

In the whole fleet.

So, I hope they keep doing that.

We don't want to have the same ship over and over and over just different decorations.

All right. So as we kind of wrapped us up, though, any, any final thoughts on this Norway cruise, any final memories or any tips for folks that might take this cruise here in the future.

I mean, always look at the discount page. I guess is my.

Just because like, I don't know.

You never know what they have on sale.

If you're, you know, watching your budget.

It's kind of a good way to still go places and.

You know, you might end up going somewhere you haven't been before.

So I would say, yeah, if, if you have any interest at all and going to somewhere you haven't been it's, it's always worth it.
