spk_0 Hello everybody, my name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
spk_0 Come on, let's master English.
spk_0 Hello everybody, welcome back to daily, easy English Expressions, the podcast.
spk_0 My name is Coach Shane, thanks for joining me.
spk_0 You know, I realized something, I did podcast 1165 and 1166, but I never did podcast 1164.
spk_0 I forgot one, so I'm going back in time.
spk_0 This is podcast number 1164.
spk_0 I love this expression.
spk_0 It's very common.
spk_0 It simply is sound too hot, but there's more to it.
spk_0 We're going to start with a dialogue, check out the dialogue.
spk_0 I'm going to the big apple for VK.
spk_0 Eh, New York doesn't sound too hot.
spk_0 Are you kidding?
spk_0 Got them city.
spk_0 The city that never sleeps.
spk_0 Well, it smells like pee.
spk_0 It's not that clean.
spk_0 I'll take the countryside.
spk_0 The big apple New York City.
spk_0 Have you been there?
spk_0 I've been there.
spk_0 I like New York City actually.
spk_0 I'm not a big fan of big cities, but New York City, there's some charm to it.
spk_0 I think compared to some other cities in America, you know, New York City can be dangerous,
spk_0 but basically it's not that bad.
spk_0 It really isn't.
spk_0 And especially in the daytime, I don't go out at night.
spk_0 So that's not an issue for me.
spk_0 But yeah, New York City, but the dialogue is so true.
spk_0 Let's get into the dialogue.
spk_0 The guy, the first guy says, I'm going to the big apple.
spk_0 That means New York City.
spk_0 That's New York City's nickname, the big apple for VK.
spk_0 Now we studied VK.
spk_0 VK means vacation, right?
spk_0 V-A-C-A-Y vacation.
spk_0 Oh nice.
spk_0 But the other guy says, eh, eh, New York doesn't sound too hot.
spk_0 Now, this is not about the weather.
spk_0 It's not about the temperature.
spk_0 If something doesn't sound too hot,
spk_0 it doesn't sound that good.
spk_0 Ooh, that sounds hot.
spk_0 That sounds good.
spk_0 Yeah, we do have that expression, but that's an expression kind of more for the ladies,
spk_0 not so much for the guys.
spk_0 Okay.
spk_0 And it's kind of trendy.
spk_0 I don't think people say it too much.
spk_0 But something doesn't sound too hot is very common for guys and girls.
spk_0 No problem.
spk_0 It doesn't sound that good.
spk_0 Ah, New York doesn't sound too hot.
spk_0 It doesn't sound that good.
spk_0 That new movie doesn't sound too hot.
spk_0 Oh, that new song doesn't sound too hot.
spk_0 It doesn't sound that good.
spk_0 That's what the guy is saying.
spk_0 The other guy argues, are you kidding?
spk_0 Gotham City.
spk_0 That's another nickname for New York.
spk_0 The big apple, New York City, Gotham City,
spk_0 G-O-T-H-A-M, Gotham City, Batman's Town.
spk_0 And he says again, the city that never sleeps.
spk_0 That's right.
spk_0 That's what we say about New York City, the city that never sleeps.
spk_0 Ah, but then the other guy says, well, it smells like P-E-E.
spk_0 urine, you are I-N-E in Korean.
spk_0 The word is O-Jim in Chinese, Shoubin.
spk_0 I don't know how to say it in other languages.
spk_0 Teach me.
spk_0 But it's true.
spk_0 Oh, I'm so sorry, it's true.
spk_0 If you go to New York City in the summertime, like right now,
spk_0 especially Manhattan, Manhattan area of New York City,
spk_0 it smells like P.
spk_0 It really does.
spk_0 Like somebody peed close to you.
spk_0 I'm sorry, it does.
spk_0 So the guy says it smells like P.
spk_0 It's not that clean.
spk_0 I'll take the countryside.
spk_0 In other words, I like the countryside.
spk_0 Give me the country, fresh air.
spk_0 No pee.
spk_0 But the problem with the countryside, like for me, I live in Vermont
spk_0 and it's kind of a farming area and it does not smell like P.
spk_0 However, it can smell like poo, cow poo.
spk_0 So what's which one do you prefer?
spk_0 If you had to smell one or the other, would you rather smell P?
spk_0 Or would you rather smell poo?
spk_0 Me, I'll smell poo because it's cow poo.
spk_0 It's not human poo.
spk_0 I don't want to smell human poo.
spk_0 But the pee, it smells like human pee.
spk_0 I don't want to smell human pee.
spk_0 But that's not important.
spk_0 The expression is important.
spk_0 Something doesn't sound too hot.
spk_0 We're not talking about the weather.
spk_0 It doesn't sound that good.
spk_0 It doesn't sound that interesting.
spk_0 It's, it's yeah.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 I don't want to go that movie.
spk_0 Oh, the new movie with the actor.
spk_0 I doesn't sound too hot.
spk_0 I don't want to go.
spk_0 I'm not interested.
