Hello, maleathools and warheads. This is Mark, aka Thorn678, because I'm a thorn in your side. Just played round two of the league. It's been a while. Because I played like, as soon as the first round started and at the very tail end of the second round ending, because I got sick and it was really bad. And there's this, like, weird stomach bug going around Fargo. That just wiped me out and dehydrated me and I had to go to the hospital. It was like a big ordeal. So we played Gloom Spike Gitz vs. Nighthaunt. We played the battle plan, where the table is divided into quarters, and you score a point by controlling the quarters like you control object, like you control objectives. I went first. It was a 1250 point game, which is a really odd point allotment. So we played with. We had to have two plus battle line. Didn't really come up because you're both playing Horde armies. I brought a unit of Blade Guide, Blade Geist, Revenants, a unit of Chain Rasps, a unit of Spirit Hosts, a Spirit Torment, a Guardian of Souls, two units of Reapers, and a unit of Harridans. Was a. A really fun game. I was thinking, you know, you play Nighthaunt where you just. You charge in, you sit on objectives, and you kill stuff, right? Like, pretty basic. But what ended up happening? So I went first, and I just quickly took over three table quarters. I went just. I stayed on my. In my territory. I went to the left, I went to the top, and boom, I have three quarters of the table. And then he couldn't take it back from me, so I stymied him on victory points. I forget what it's called when you do the battle. When you do the battle plan points. I forget what they're called. But also I. I capitalized on my. On my battle tactics. We played four. We played three. Well, we played four rounds and then we called. So what I ended up doing is I played completely different than what I usually do. I usually like to get in there, Alpha destroy stuff. Murder, death, kill, right? So I just played very patiently. I only had a few combats throughout the game. Like, I parked my Reapers, one unit of Reapers inheritance to the left, and then I parked my Spirit Hosts and my champions in my territory, which was a battle tactic that I got during the game. And then I moved everything else to my northern flank. Whatever you want to call it. Like the one directly above from where I started. Maximized points the first two turns by scoring all three with control One control. Two control more. And got my battle tactic. I got my battle tactic three out of the four rounds, I think. So I don't remember what the final score was, but my. My opponent was. His name was Sean. He's a very nice guy. I've never played with him before. I've never met him before. Really good for getting out of my comfort zone and. And playing with other people because I have major stranger danger, which is funny because I have a podcast. I know. And I've played in bands and I've played in shows and played live. I don't know. It's just weird. And I'm good at public speaking. It's this weird thing. Round one, there was no combat. Round two, he got. I got the. The first turn around. Two. So we basically went back and forth. There wasn't. I don't think there was any double turning. I. I got the charge off with the Herdin, who are a blender. So, you know, that's 41 attacks, including the Crone. So not bad. And actually, I'm going to keep going. So I'm driving back from the game right now. My. Oh, and I. And I brought the Terminexis. The Termin. X's did some real work for me. I. He had his stuff bunched up pretty good, so I just sprinted it up the field and. And really capitalized on my D3s. I'd used Emerald Host, so my curse killed two of his heroes. So pretty. Pretty wicked. I had. I also had a curse on the Trogoths, his unit Trogoths and his unit of grand. Of goblins letting go over his list. So he brought a shaman. He brought the dude that's on the COVID of the book that has a moon head, and he brought some dude on a Squig. Those are his three heroes, his three Gleason champions. He brought a unit of Snarl Fang Riders, a unit of Trogoths, and all the rest were goblins. One of them had. One or two of them had bows and the other ones had spears. So he had one unit of spears with my Reapers on my left flank. And then he sent the other unit of spears to my northern flank, where I surrounded him with my Blade Guist Revenants, another unit of Reapers, my unit of Chain Gas, and my unit of spirit hosts. Spoiler alert. They didn't live very long, so the spirit hosts completely destroyed them. Like way overkill. I ended up denying myself a battle tactic because I took the one that's a Nighthawn one where you get the battle tactic if you're engaged with one unit with two or more of nine hot units. So I didn't get it because I killed his unit. So I should have just left it because I would have controlled the objective. Because I assume you can just not fight. But I'm actually not sure about that. I'd have to look at the rules. I wonder if you can just not fight. So maybe I wouldn't have had any choice. I think I also all out attacked so I didn't do myself any favors there. I rolled pretty average. Pretty average. There were definitely some clutch rolls that I did not make that hurt really bad. And I did not have any like ridiculous rolls. So I always like to talk about this because I I don't like when people blame losses on dice because you're supposed to build into your plan what what you're gon. You don't make your rolls right assuming rolling average. So I I had my. Where where things went bad for me was my saves. I didn't make very many saves and it didn't go very well for me. And my discorporate did did very little for me. Very often I was. Very often I was not making my. My wards. I made very few of my wards. I brought the be Magic Shizar and ruler of the Spirit Host so I was able to bring stuff back. I. I did manage to rally. So I I. I lost a bunch of reapers at first. And then I brought in that unit that was engaged on my left flank. I brought almost the whole unit back. And then I failed my ruler of the Spirit Host. So I wasn't able to bring my harridans back because the harridans were surrounded by those dudes with the big long ball and chains. I don't remember what they're called. The Snarl Fangs. The Trogoths and a unit of spears. So they didn't stand a chance. And they didn. They did okay with damage. What really did a lot of damage to this unit was it happened to be the one that had one of the curses. I rolled a three. So I had four. There were four cursed units. I managed to wipe him out. I wiped out two of his heroes with that curse. And that curse almost single handedly took out that unit combined with the Terminixis actually because the heritage didn't really do much to them. I failed a lot of rules. So you know, 41 attacks. I think one. I did like three or damage to him. The Reaper Bells. The Death Knells didn't perform for me either. I just I rolled very, very average. Maybe low end of average. There were no like, whoa, look at this roll moments. But I did have a couple like, oh, man, that sucks at roll moments. So, eh, you know, I tried to play smart. I tried to play cagey, keep things very defensive and castled up, which seemed like a very not Night Haunt thing to do. But I think it worked out for me in this. I could have easily have charged him in turn one and alpha'd him because our territory is corners, right? So, like, I would have been in his face turn one, but then I wouldn't be scoring all of my stuff. I mean, I would probably table him. But it's risky because if I had whiffed all my attacks, then I wouldn't be scoring any points. There'd be no purpose. So it was a nice moment of restraint for me to. Or was a nice moment to. To grow in tactics because I was able to castle up and play for points instead of playing for death, which is usually a problem for me. I feel like that it was a very like game, like 20 to 30 of Malifo for me, where I was still pretty castly, but I was starting to get smart about positioning. I was really my. I think Dane would agree that in Malifo, my. My expertise before I unlocked the Alpha was positioning on the field to deny points. I wouldn't necessarily score a lot, but I was really good at denial. In this case, I was denying by scoring because the nature of denying scored me points. So he scored like one point every turn for controlling his territory. And then I controlled the rest. The rest of the game. So he just. He could. He just couldn't catch up. It was really good game. He didn't play with the. The moon though, because he didn't own it. I didn't even think of it either. Also what I said, dude, just like put like a. Put like a soda bottle on the table and if that's your moon, like, it's all. It's all good, brother. And he didn't play with Battalions. I just played with a One Drop Battalion. And then I played with a. I played with a The veterans, which I had the Harridans and the Blade Gas Revenants. Spoiler Blade guys. Revenants didn't swing a single time the entire game. They would have been pretty brutal if they had, though. See here. I haven't really anything else to say, man. Nighthawn are fiddly with moving around on the table. I need to get some good movement trays or something. I don't Even know what I'm gonna do about that. Like, I don't. And my storage solution is magnetic mixed with I on these shingles, which are kind of double as my movement trays. Not sure exactly what the best thing to do. There would be nice to get a W against the Gloom Spike gets because the only other time that I played against them, I played Andy with his gloom spite and he just absolutely obliterated me. And that was on. Purely on the old book. And he just. Oh, my gosh, he just absolutely wrecked my face. Oh, I did have some pretty bad tactical blunders with Combat Order. His stuff lived an extra turn than it should have because the way that his. Because he had a bunch of square bases on square movement trays, which was really awkward. And he knows it was really awkward. And it was kind of not. It seemed like kind of not fun for him to deal with that. I. One of his dudes just happened to be sitting in an exact spot that I couldn't see him. And so it was kind of outside out of mind. So I should have done combat against him instead of against the Trogoths because I knew that I wouldn't get very far hitting the Trogoths. I. I just wanted to get some wounds in so I could try to take some of them down. I should have attacked that Gloom Spite or that goblin instead, and he would have been dead, and my heritage would have been freed up. But I didn't do it. I didn't. It was dumb, so what can you do? But then my Terminixis was also over there, so it freed it up to do a bunch of more mortal wounds. So I assume that it would damage my own guys too. I'd have to look at the wording because I think it just says deal D3 more. I think it's more wounds to all units within 6 inches. I'd have to look at the wording. Maybe I can select not my units. I don't know. My heroes didn't do a whole lot for me this game, except score points and be like resurrection engines. Not that they necessarily would have done a lot. I actually failed the charge with the Guardian of Souls. I was gonna get him in, but I didn't. I wasn't able to. I just wasn't able to get. So they have their aura. They're like wholly within 12. So what I mean by they didn't do much is most of my stuff in my territory and in the northern flank didn't. They didn't get into combat, so that Buff didn't do anything, which is fine. I was scoring points, so they didn't do anything. But at the same time, it's not really fair to say that because there wasn't anything to do. Why. Why move them when I could be camping on my territory and scoring a bunch of. I'm sorry, I totally spaced out there for a second. It's late, I'm tired. It's Friday. It's been a rough week of work because I still feel like I'm recovering from the dehydration. It was nasty. So I'll stop yammering now. Thanks for listening and tune in for round three.
