A reality for me and my family the Lord it's a long story, but the short of it is we walk through tragedy with the loss of a son

whom we name Nash
spk_0
We named him after an intercessor by the name of Daniel Nash
spk_0
Who was a forerunner with Charles Finney during the second great awakening
spk_0
And we believe that God is going to awaken intercession across the earth
spk_0
And we've been sounding this for 10 years and we're beginning to lock in on it even more

So I want to invite you to come and I I tell you it's hard when I give these announcements

Because I almost feel like you guys really aren't even listening nor thinking about coming

I'll just be honest with you about how I feel

I'm going to read all the Daniel one. I'm going to take what past a Brian started a few weeks ago

And we're going to stand for the reading of the word

Which he carried into the land of Shanaar to the House of his God and he brought the articles into the treasure house of his God

Keep going the king instructed Ashpinah's the master of his unix to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the king's descendants and some of the nobles

Young man and whom there was no blemish but good looking everybody look to your right and your left say you're good looking

Keep going and the King appointed for them a daily provision of the King's delicacies and of the wine which he drank in three years of training

For them so that at the end of that time they might serve before the King

And from among those the sons of Judah were Daniel, Hennonaya, Mishail and Aziraya

To them the chief of the unix gave the names he gave them Daniel

But Daniel purposed in his heart

Get this he purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the King's delicacies

Nor with the wine which he drank therefore he requested of the chief of the unix that he might not defile himself

The God brought Daniel into favor and goodwill of the chief of the unix

And the chief of the unix says I fear my Lord the King who has appointed your food and drink

Why should he see your faces looking worse than the young man or your age

Then you would endanger my head before the King

Daniel said to the steward who had been set over them next verse and he said this please test your servants for 10 days

And let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink

And let our appearance be examined before you and the appearance of the young man who eat the portion of the King's delicacies

And as you see fit so deal with your servants

And so he consented with them in this matter and he tested them 10 days

And at the end of the 10 days their features appeared better and fatter and flesh than all the young men
spk_0
Who ate the portion of the King's delicacies
spk_0
And the steward took away their portion of delicacies and the wine which they drank and gave them vegetables
spk_0
And as for these four young men God gave them knowledge and skill and all literature and wisdom and Daniel had understanding and all visions and dreams

Now at the end of the days when the King had said that they should be brought in the chief of the unix brought them in before King Nebuchadnezzar

And the King interviewed them and among them all none was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azirah
spk_0
Therefore they served before the King
spk_0
And all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the King examined them
spk_0
He found them 10 times better
spk_0
Then all the magicians and astrologers who were in Israel
spk_0
And Daniel continued until the first year of King Cyrus
spk_0
Now just so you understand that 605 to about 539

Okay, that's about 60 years right here
spk_0
Lord we ask you right now that you would just open up the word of God to us today
spk_0
We pray for the spirit of revelation and Father in these days
spk_0
God I pray that you would begin to mark us and deepen us
spk_0
And that we would become men and women like Daniel and these three friends
spk_0
And that you would mark us in the name of Jesus. Amen. Amen go ahead and grab a seat

To take us into the book of Daniel
spk_0
He gave a little bit of the history and I just want to give a little bit of review on that because I feel like I have something to speak into today

I believe that we're in a divine moment
spk_0
In America that's why we're here. We're not just picking out a random book to look at
spk_0
And to help you in your in your study, but we believe that America is in a divine moment
spk_0
And in many ways we are in a Babylonian culture
spk_0
We're in a culture that's anti-God, anti-Christ
spk_0
Against the ways of God the will of God and there's a whole generation that's being swept by the spirit of this age
spk_0
And I love the way Brian's defined this we want to mount a counter cultural resistance movement here at house Denver
spk_0
A counter cultural we want to swim against the tide of a generation that's being swept away with this this
spk_0
Weak
spk_0
And courage
spk_0
That's why we're looking at the book of Daniel
spk_0
I believe that America's conscience is pricked
spk_0
It's my fear that the window is closing in many ways
spk_0
But at the same time I'm very filled with hope that I'm seeing campuses
spk_0
I'm seeing churches that are filled with growing numbers like no other time
spk_0
I'm seeing Bibles that are being bought more. I'm seeing Jin Z wake up
spk_0
And so there's an awakening, but there's at the same time I get so afraid because once the social media trains run its way through we go back to life is normal
spk_0
And we just kind of go back to the way things were and I'm like no we're gonna keep this door open
spk_0
And we're going to begin to so and begin to increase the fire from this pulpit and in our community
spk_0
So that we would begin to go deeper
spk_0
And so that we could stand as Daniels and whatever sphere God's called us to
spk_0
605 BC that's an important date to remember
spk_0
Nebuchadnezzar the the first or the second king of Babylon is going to come in
spk_0
And we're going to see three kind of
spk_0
waves of
spk_0
warfare and of besiegement and of attack on Jerusalem that's going to culminate in
spk_0
586 BC the ultimate destruction of Jerusalem the temple and it's going to be the great
spk_0
exile of the children of Israel, but the first one is going to be 605 BC
spk_0
And
spk_0
King Nebuchadnezzar is going to come in and we're going to see that in this first wave
spk_0
He's going to take articles from the temple
spk_0
And he's going to take some of the nobles and some of the royal family and descendants and he's going to take the best of the best
spk_0
He's going to take the Harvard youth and he's going to begin to take them back to Babylon and indoctrinate them with Babylonian culture
spk_0
Babylonian literature Babylonian religion and indoctrinate them
spk_0
Understanding that they can release the
spk_0
This is their evangelism. This is how they can shape the world around them is by taking the best of the best and releasing it through them
spk_0
Daniel was one of these nobles one of the descendants of the nobles that was taken
spk_0
Brian brought it up but guys I think we need to get our heads around this
spk_0
Is that he was around 15 some even believe 12 13 or 14 years old
spk_0
That is absolutely remarkable to me
spk_0
Let's just give him 15 just because I don't even know what to do with the 12-year-old living the way Daniel lived
spk_0
Just because I can't even get my head around the way this young man was walking
spk_0
He is 15 years old
spk_0
And and and and we see the greatest tragedy
spk_0
tragic moment of his life is about to happen
spk_0
And when I read Daniel one I'm not seeing a kid walking around
spk_0
Gripped with his fear and all of his things like this, but I see a young man that's been prepared for this moment
spk_0
And he doesn't skip a beat
spk_0
But thrives in the middle of Babylon
spk_0
And I'm asking myself questions because I believe if we are going to deepen our discipleship and be able to thrive in a Babylonian culture
spk_0
We need to begin to go deeper in our understanding of God
spk_0
A deeper in our understanding of what he's called us to so that we can thrive in these days and not become victim to these days
spk_0
I want you to look at the four areas go ahead and put those four areas four life altering things happen to Daniel in 605 BC
spk_0
Okay, let's just look at this. This is remarkable first thing Babylon came into his nation and took him
spk_0
I was hanging out with my 22-year-old yesterday on my front porch and just say just say
spk_0
if some
spk_0
Military from the Middle East is walking through our neighborhood going into homes and taking
spk_0
Taking teenagers with them and putting them in the van and it's going to take them back to their country
spk_0
That's literally what happened to Daniel. He's 15 years old
spk_0
And he is a foreign nation comes in that's the first thing the the tragedy and the trauma of that alone is enough to take many people out
spk_0
Number two he was taken from family friends temple and life as he had known it
spk_0
Everything that he had known was taken at a moment
spk_0
Number three he traveled for two months
spk_0
He would have walked for about 60 days from Jerusalem to Babylon
spk_0
Being brought thinking about his new life everything is behind him and he's going to be taken to a to a foreign nation
spk_0
Far away from everything that he's known
spk_0
And then number four it is most likely that he was made a unique
spk_0
Which removes any future family or lineage
spk_0
We don't even talk about that one. Do you know unique is brought up seven times in Daniel one
spk_0
It is highly agreed upon that Daniel was made a unique and this was what they would do
spk_0
In these days with with to the end of the day
spk_0
He's he's completely has all hopes of a future family or lineage stripped from him at 15 years old
spk_0
Get your head around those four things
spk_0
15 years old
spk_0
That happens to you
spk_0
And yet
spk_0
Daniel he undoubtedly had tears had fears
spk_0
He undoubtedly was gripped with my God. What is
spk_0
I don't understand
spk_0
But in the middle of maybe that 60-day journey
spk_0
something
spk_0
Calibrated on the inside of Daniel
spk_0
Something realigned on the inside of Daniel and he says I've got two options to this story
spk_0
Either I'm going to be defined by it and become a victim to it
spk_0
Or I'm going to trust in Yahweh
spk_0
And I'm going to trust in God and his sovereign
spk_0
ability to
spk_0
Cause me to thrive in the middle of this horrific situation
spk_0
And as I've been reading and meditating on Daniel one
spk_0
I just feel like one of the core things that God wants to grow up
spk_0
And God wants to deepen here at house and in this generation is that we need
spk_0
New views of God we need stronger views of God in this hour
spk_0
Can I submit to you I'm coming in a little hot today
spk_0
Can I submit to you that many of us have made a God in our own image
spk_0
We are a weak generation
spk_0
We are a fragile generation
spk_0
We are a very
spk_0
We are a very brittle generation
spk_0
If one of those things happened to us
spk_0
We would live victimized by it for the next 40 years
spk_0
And then we would blame God for allowing it to happen
spk_0
Because God didn't do it the way we thought he should do it
spk_0
Do you know why so many people that were in the middle of so many coming into faith
spk_0
We have so many others leaving the faith and it's because at the end of the day
spk_0
God's not doing it the way that I think he's supposed to do it
spk_0
God uses people in my life who say it wrong do it wrong
spk_0
And may not be the best thing and I get offended
spk_0
Affair is really the result of small views of God and it's the result of a God you've made in your own image
spk_0
Strong men have strong views of God
spk_0
We need and I've been going back we're here with our school of prayer
spk_0
And I'm going back to what did I get a hold of in my 20s
spk_0
What did I feed on in my early 20s? I'll tell you what I fed on I fed on the reality that there is a king on the throne
spk_0
That there is a sovereign lord a sovereign God who rules over the affairs of men who rules in heaven and rules on the earth
spk_0
And is intricately connected to all details in my life
spk_0
And is taking both the good and the bad to bring me forth into a divine purpose
spk_0
The God of the modern man
spk_0
Is a man is a God made in our image and we're on the throne
spk_0
And he's our counselor he's our buddy
spk_0
He's our friend who never confronts anything
spk_0
And
spk_0
And that's why you'll leave him so quickly
spk_0
It's because he's not doing it the way you thought he would do it
spk_0
We get Jesus and all of our dreams come true
spk_0
We get Jesus and all of our destiny gets fulfilled. I don't think Daniel signed up for this
spk_0
Daniel didn't think his destiny was going to play out in some country thousand miles away
spk_0
He
spk_0
Didn't think it would look this way
spk_0
But he refused to make an idol of what he thought his destiny would look like
spk_0
And he thrived in this and I want to tell you there's something that Daniel had that I think
spk_0
If we are going to be prepared for the coming days
spk_0
We need a more robust view of God specifically his sovereignty
spk_0
If there's one resounding truth that echoes through Daniel it's that God rules
spk_0
God reigns
spk_0
God is sovereign. What does the sovereignty of God God sovereignty is his absolute right
spk_0
power and authority to do all that he wills in heaven and on the earth without limitation or opposition
spk_0
I know this offends the modern man
spk_0
Who is God that has all right and all power and all authority
spk_0
But friends this is what brings alignment to everything
spk_0
This is what secures you in trust and causes you to trust him even when it doesn't look the way you thought it was going to look
spk_0
Trusting in God's sovereignty creates a Romans 828 paradigm versus continual offense and weak faith
spk_0
Because God doesn't do it our way
spk_0

Romans 8 we know all things everybody say all things
spk_0
Work together for good to those who love God and to those who are called according to his purpose
spk_0
Even as I was talking about guys. I'm not just giving you a nice message this morning
spk_0
Even what I gave when I gave the announcement of the Nash conference do you understand how many prophetic words I had about a son coming
spk_0
We have three beautiful daughters 25 22 15 and then we had prophecies about a son coming and he came on June 26 2012
spk_0
And we named him Nash after that intercessor all these words about a prayer warrior
spk_0
All these words about an intercessor was on his life and we named him based on what we saw about his life
spk_0
Brian talked about this a couple of weeks ago naming our kids based on prophetic destiny
spk_0
That's what we named him with and and that's what I thought I was going. I got my son. We're gonna
spk_0
I'm gonna teach him an intercession. We're gonna run together. We're gonna change the world together
spk_0
That's what the vision was in my mind
spk_0
And at nine and a half months old on March 16 2013
spk_0
I'm in London my wife takes the kids to see family in Arkansas lays him down from a nap and he doesn't wake up
spk_0
What do you do when it doesn't look the way you thought it was gonna look
spk_0
When I'd give a nice little messages and nice little things to help you through a hard season
spk_0
But what do you do when it all just gets blown up in a thousand ways?
spk_0
And I had two options and through the last
spk_0
12 years god has worked this revelation in me to begin to say god I trust you with the storyline
spk_0
Because I thought my son would be in my hands and we'd be walking together
spk_0
But no he's that he's joined with Jesus up there at the right hand of the father connected to destiny here on earth
spk_0
And what I'm saying is and that's a really extreme storyline
spk_0
But the principles the same
spk_0
How do you navigate those things and I tell you god?
spk_0
You're gonna cause all things to work together and though this doesn't look the way I thought it was gonna look
spk_0
You're going to bring forth glory out of this
spk_0
You're gonna bring forth glory out of this I refuse to become a victim to this moment
spk_0
I refuse to let this define me god
spk_0
I pray that you would bring forth glory out of this all things work together. We're good and this thing's been worked in us
spk_0
We've got to shape it and shift in this doubt because I see so much of this generation
spk_0
How's your week

How's your money?
spk_0
How's your relationships and it's so fickle and so fragile and so brittle
spk_0
On Christ the solid rock I stand all other ground is

It's fleeting it's sand
spk_0
We need a robust view of God a robust view of Christ of his death of his atonement of our righteousness in God

And not how your seasons going I feel like we worship our season more than we do God
spk_0
It's all based on how is it going in your bank account
spk_0
These seasons come and go
spk_0
But friends I believe in the if we get a more robust view of God a greater view of God
spk_0
And if it's power to work in us through these seasons we will thrive in the middle of them
spk_0

This is what I was hearing for two weeks. It's time to be ready so you don't have to get ready

I'm tired of crisis Christianity

I'm tired of Jesus being our crisis ATM that we run to when it gets hard

Why does it got to take hardship?

Why does it got I want to I want to be intense when it's peaceful
spk_0
So I could be at rest when it's intense
spk_0
I think it's a backache that said I trembled in myself that I might rest in the day of trouble

If you tremble now you're rest tomorrow if you're rest now you tremble tomorrow

It's time to be ready so you don't have to get ready. I don't know who said that probably some athlete, but I like it

Because when Daniel shows up and I'm like we're all convicted. I'm 48. I'd be struggling
spk_0
Daniel thrived
spk_0
Look at look at I got eight ways Daniel was prepared for the most difficult season of his life

And guys you cannot overstep this the power of family
spk_0
The role of parents and community. It's what prepared Daniel for this
spk_0
And I love it just like God he hides Daniel's parents
spk_0
Because they're probably really famous in heaven
spk_0
All we know about the validation of Daniel's parents is Daniel

You look at Daniel and you're going my goodness where'd you get this?

Who taught you this
spk_0
When you were seven
spk_0
I want to tell you and I can't I feel like one of the things we need to take in this season is at

Home discipleship
spk_0
four-year-olds three-year-olds
spk_0
five-year-olds
spk_0
rhythms of prayer
spk_0
rhythms of the word rhythms of holiness teaching them principles at this stage
spk_0
I don't want to just and and I know it's more intense. I grew up in the generation where you're not eight hour road trip

And all you had to do was look out the window
spk_0
Oh
spk_0
We had who remembers those days, huh?

And you start complaining mom and dad said you better be quiet
spk_0
All right
spk_0
If I play osp I one more time

That's generation I grew up in but

We got to fight with there's an intention alley you go don't be so intense

That's what the culture says chill out let them be kids
spk_0
Which means give them to us for us to disciple them

Let us disciple them chill out you just let them be

We Daniel it prophesies of parents and a community that it came from
spk_0
There's a temple community that he was connected to that puts something in him that's number one number two
spk_0
Prayer
spk_0
We won't see this till Daniel 6 verse 10 at the end of his life

But it says that in Daniel in the lion's den story
spk_0
It says that when Daniel knew that the writing was signed he went home and in his upper room with his windows open torched

Jerusalem he knelt down on his knees three times that day and prayed and gazed
spk_0
Thanks before his god look at this as was his custom since early days
spk_0
Daniel had built rhythms of prayer
spk_0
As an eight-year-old boy
spk_0
As a 12-year-old boy
spk_0
Three-time today morning noon and night
spk_0
And even see this is the thing that blows me away about Daniel the temple was destroyed

But Daniel kept offering sacrifices morning noon and night
spk_0
Saying I will be the temple
spk_0
I will be the temple and offer sacrifices towards Jerusalem morning noon and night
spk_0
Prayer
spk_0
Begin to get our children
spk_0
Begin to but I'm speaking to children, but I'm talking to us
spk_0
Guys we got it we got a deep in our prayer life
spk_0
We're going to need more than a couple of Oswald Chambers nuggets
spk_0
Your little devotional ain't going to cut it
spk_0
We need more than nuggets we need food
spk_0
We need bread we need life
spk_0
We need a we need an indwelling communion with God
spk_0
So that you walk into your workplace with a spirit of prayer on you
spk_0
We need the spirit of prayer. That's what we're trying to work with our students in the morning

Ernie nothing in me that wants to be in here at six, but I never regret going

And I'm swimming every day against the tide that says 30 more minutes

30 more minutes

We've got to begin to swim against the current that it really feeds unbelief

We need to cultivate faith and faith is cultivated in prayer

And faith is cultivated in the word

David Daniel lived his life in the word look at this in Daniel 9 older

In the first year of his reign i Daniel understood by the books the number of the years

Specified by the word of the Lord through Jeremiah

Daniel was reading Jeremiah's prophecies

There's a man on the other side of these boring pages

There's a man on the other side of these boring pages that's waiting for you just to stay a little longer

And to crack through the confusion

Crack through the boredom

Crack through all the warfare around it and stay five more minutes

Stay five more minutes and get the word of God in you friends. It's a battle over information

Who are you listening to what are you listening to?

I would say majority of what we're listening to is fueling unbelief

We need to get God's story of redemption
spk_0
We need to get faith in where this thing is going
spk_0
We need to get faith in the knowledge of God
spk_0
Faith in the story of God and how this thing applies

Number four

Fasting it blows me away
spk_0
That Daniel is going to sit in every Babylonian God class
spk_0
He doesn't make a deal about learning about Marduk
spk_0
Are learning about some Babylonian gods he studies all of it and says yeah give it to me

I want to be able to thrive in the middle of this world so I need to understand your religious worldview

He he learned all the literature of the Babylonians
spk_0
He learned about all the culture of the Babylonians that was fine
spk_0
He says I got a thrive in this culture. I need to understand what I'm speaking into

He drew the line on the food and the drink
spk_0
That's where he drew the line he purposed in his heart

I'll study all your courses, but you're not going to cross over this
spk_0
I've got to stay sober at a connected to God in my spirit
spk_0
And the food and the drink is going to dull my senses
spk_0
It's going to dull my spirit and so he drew the line on the food probably sacrifice to idols

And the wine which was dulling the census
spk_0
The

Fasting we need a culture of fasting in this day because we live by the God of our belly
spk_0
Self-indulgence rules the world
spk_0
We are an overconsumption culture who can never have enough and we need a fight fasting spirit on us
spk_0
That learns to say no
spk_0
That learns to push away and to draw the line
spk_0
And
spk_0
I would tie together four and five together consecration. It's a life set apart
spk_0
What areas in your life is set apart
spk_0
That would be distinguished from the world around you
spk_0
What areas does God bug you about
spk_0
Maybe it's how you talk
spk_0
What areas does the Holy Spirit always check you on
spk_0
Those are the areas that you need to submit to him
spk_0

You're more given to it

You give your heart fully into your work

But you walk in holiness and integrity and skill set and God elevates you above everybody else
