spk_0 I'm going to be the right club today.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 That's better than most.
spk_0 How about him?
spk_0 That is better than most.
spk_0 Better than most.
spk_0 Expect anything different.
spk_0
spk_0 Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the No Laying Up podcast.
spk_0 My name is DJ.
spk_0 We got a fun one tonight for you guys.
spk_0 I don't know if we're going to do two hours on the Sanderson Farms necessarily, but we're
spk_0 going to get to that.
spk_0 We're going to talk about that Stephen Fisk and his two-shot win there.
spk_0 And then we've got a lot of other stuff to get to.
spk_0 This might end up feeling a little bit more like a trap draw chop session.
spk_0 And I think for that reason I've got the perfect crew here.
spk_0 T.C.
spk_0 Just giddy with the agenda that he's put together tonight.
spk_0 I've been weirdly locked in all week.
spk_0 I've been at home.
spk_0 Been just trying to trying to get the base all riled up on the Don Reese stuff.
spk_0 I think I've succeeded.
spk_0 And I don't know how I don't know how plugged in Randy's been though, which is good.
spk_0 Of course, he will be the third chair tonight.
spk_0 Big Randy fresh off of a trip to the great state of Wisconsin.
spk_0 But we have to play a little golf together this week.
spk_0 We're going to talk about that.
spk_0 We're going to talk about other trips.
spk_0 Big is taking to our beautiful state practically a resident at this point now.
spk_0 Randy, how are you, my man?
spk_0 I'm good.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 I got another trip coming to Wisconsin this weekend.
spk_0 It is crazy.
spk_0 I'm rotten with trips to Wisconsin.
spk_0 It is great to get there.
spk_0 We had a good time earlier this week.
spk_0 Listen, I think T.C. watched the most golf.
spk_0 So if you're here for like the hardcore Sanderson breakdown, that's T.C.
spk_0 That's not me.
spk_0 I can't give that to you.
spk_0 So I'm looking, I'm looking to pick my spots elsewhere.
spk_0 And I think there are a few that I can get, get involved.
spk_0 But we are going to talk about the world of golf.
spk_0 Like I said, we're going to talk about the Sanders.
spk_0 And we're going to talk about the Dunhill talk a little corn fairy, little LPGA.
spk_0 And then we're, I think we're going to talk.
spk_0 San Valley.
spk_0 Randy, you know, you, you took a big, you know, capital B capital T buddies trip to San Valley recently.
spk_0 And we kind of got us thinking we hadn't really done a lot on the podcast about San Valley and kind of all the things that have coalesced there since a lot of our, you know, a lot of people's last visits.
spk_0 And since we rolled out a couple videos from there.
spk_0 And so it's a, it's a good week to do that, especially dropping our, our par three championship video that yours truly was.
spk_0 Depanced in recently.
spk_0 So we can talk about that.
spk_0 And then we got a lot of just rider couple loose ends that we're going to get to.
spk_0 A lot of people tweet stuff.
spk_0 A lot of people writing stuff.
spk_0 A lot of people posted got linked in.
spk_0 It's just going to be a lot to get to, which we will get to in in the second half.
spk_0 But before we get there, not sure if any of you listening played golf this weekend.
spk_0 Pretty ideal weather for most of the country up here in Wisconsin.
spk_0 It was an absolute joke the past week.
spk_0 Just 76 and sunny.
spk_0 We know that's not going to last forever.
spk_0 You know, T.C. is going to have lovely playing conditions all year round.
spk_0 But for many of us, the season starts to become a bit more unpredictable this time of year.
spk_0 Golf, you got to find the right golf gear.
spk_0 And you can extend the season, make every day playable with our friends at foot joy.
spk_0 Only foot joy creates the shoes, gloves, apparel and outerwear to play comfortably in any conditions.
spk_0 They just added the fall collection to the website.
spk_0 So there's so much new stuff for men and women, new premier series.
spk_0 New traditions, one of my favorites, new hyperflex shoes, new thermo series, T.C.
spk_0 I think you're you're rolling with the thermo series right now.
spk_0 Yeah, I got the hybrid vest on right now.
spk_0 And it's been really miserable here.
spk_0 Actually, the last like 10 days, just been raining just on shore.
spk_0 We had that hurricane offshore kind of churn and stuff up in the Atlantic.
spk_0 So we've had winds coming off the ocean for the last week plus.
spk_0 And I got the new dry joys select Alex.
spk_0 Oh, yeah, jacket, which perfect for for these kind of fall shoulder seasons.
spk_0 Randy, you've been playing all kinds of golf.
spk_0 What's been the what's been the footwear choice for you?
spk_0 Yeah, I will shout these.
spk_0 I try to shout these out.
spk_0 Honestly, anytime we do a foot joy, add the quantum or so, so comfortable.
spk_0 A great walking shoe.
spk_0 We walked in Wisconsin.
spk_0 I actually played earlier this morning as part of our roost.
spk_0 We got an event going on there, walked 18 holes.
spk_0 My feet, they, they truly are like, have struggled with other shoes with comfort.
spk_0 But the quantum are awesome.
spk_0 So if you're looking for a good walking shoe, I would definitely point people that direction.
spk_0 And if you're looking to get beyond shoes, like I said, new shirts, new pants, new mid layers, hoodies, all kinds of different stuff, everything you need to play golf.
spk_0 No matter where you live, so don't give up yet.
spk_0 There's plenty of golf still to be played.
spk_0 Go get decked out.
spk_0 Foot joy dot com to check out all the new fall arrivals.
spk_0 Guys, mention this off the top, Stephen Fisk, your winner at the Sanderson Farms, PJ tour rookie wins in his 24th start shoots a final round 64 to win by two birdie.
spk_0 The last three holes had a hell of a backman in that 64.
spk_0 I would be lying if I said I knew a ton about Stephen Fisk coming in TC.
spk_0 Anything you can, you can shed light on.
spk_0 Georgia Southern guy and he's from up north of Atlanta.
spk_0 His parents owned a par three in a driving range.
spk_0 I was going to ask you, have you ever been to rum Creek golf course?
spk_0 I haven't.
spk_0 I haven't.
spk_0 You know what? It sounds like it sounds like blah or Don Ray.
spk_0 That's not known.
spk_0 He was a driving ranger.
spk_0 I guess to something.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 I guess to ranch, I think I guess to ranch. That's right.
spk_0 You know what? I was I was poking around for something.
spk_0 I was on the rum Creek golf course website, just like trying to learn a little bit about this place.
spk_0 It seems like his parents still own it.
spk_0 Please correct me if I'm wrong about that.
spk_0 But just looks like a true grow the game factory out there.
spk_0 A little par three course driving range, given lessons, having events, junior programs.
spk_0 It was a it was a fun little like not an academy kid, not a anything like that.
spk_0 It seems like he came from just a very cool story and yeah, happy for happy for Steven Fisk on his 20 28 years old.
spk_0 He's grinded a few years on corn fairy tour.
spk_0 I think he did a season on PGA tour Canada.
spk_0 You know, not a like he was a really good college player, but not a not a, you know, sure thing by any stretch.
spk_0 So I always liked those kind of late bloomers who just incrementally improve year after year and congrats to him.
spk_0 TC, do you know, I'm on the the Georgia Southern website when he was here is they list his hometown a stock bridge Georgia and his high school is Dutch town.
spk_0 Do any of those ring a bell to you stock bridge does I'm not familiar with Dutch town.
spk_0 Okay, and then your next visit back to the home land.
spk_0 Yeah, you know, like weirdly I watched a lot of this tournament yesterday and today and a couple like weird rulings in there.
spk_0 Gary, Gary Kago or was it Hago and Eric Cole had a they had touching balls in the bunker there.
spk_0 I think bunker and then sasso got pinched for the amateur who's the odds on favor to be like the new Patrick read on tour in true Patrick read fashion.
spk_0 He got pinched for what was it rule eight.
spk_0 A dash one.
spk_0 Yeah, I think so.
spk_0 Which is, you know, he can't improve your life.
spk_0 So I'm told they they got him on that with the shot link tower cams and you know that was that was strange.
spk_0 Danny Walker Randy made a record breaking number of plots.
spk_0 This is incredible.
spk_0 I had this had this in my notes as well.
spk_0 TC 451 feet of puts in the first three rounds.
spk_0 Most feet of puts made through three rounds in the shot link era Randy over the first three rounds made eight puts from outside 25 feet.
spk_0 That's so many.
spk_0 That's what a you never know when you're going to get a good, you know, feet made of putt week.
spk_0 Just a random sanderson.
spk_0 That's that's awesome.
spk_0 That's why you get to watch every every big bigger deal of that.
spk_0 You never know what you're going to be you're going to be witnessing history.
spk_0 TC had a couple other couple of other notes.
spk_0 I didn't realize Doc Redmond had not played a PJ tour event since 2023.
spk_0 Monday qualified in when 7565.
spk_0 Make the cut on the number. Love that.
spk_0 It's not a medical professional.
spk_0 I got a.
spk_0 What's your opinion about that this week?
spk_0 Or just you're just a general.
spk_0 I think so.
spk_0 I just got to remind people he's not a medical professional.
spk_0 I do real quick on Danny Walker.
spk_0 Sorry, because the PJ tour now has this in their stats package round four.
spk_0 He made 64 feet, six inches of putts.
spk_0 Yeah, zero plus outside 25 feet.
spk_0 Yeah, I don't know how that's a couple of four rounds.
spk_0 Tell you who didn't make a lot of puts.
spk_0 I think outside of about five feet, Michael Thorpeornson.
spk_0 Like one of the craziest ball striking.
spk_0 Hunting or just just general short game.
spk_0 Total disparities I've ever seen.
spk_0 He was.
spk_0 He gained four shots off the tee for the week.
spk_0 Five and a half shots approaching the greens.
spk_0 He's four than fit in those categories.
spk_0 You lost almost three around the green and you lost almost four putting.
spk_0 That's that's a fish T29 with, you know, basically dead last in the field.
spk_0 Both of those things.
spk_0
spk_0 What do you guys think?
spk_0 I wish there was a way amateurs could could track feet of putts made.
spk_0 I think you can.
spk_0 Yeah, I need you getting the notes at manual.
spk_0 I know.
spk_0 Step it off each one.
spk_0 What if I just had a tape measure or like a laser system?
spk_0 I hate real quick guys before I put it just in case this goes in.
spk_0 I got to shoot it.
spk_0 Where you just keep the mark down and then if you make it you go back.
spk_0 That's a good idea.
spk_0 Yeah, that's a good idea.
spk_0 TC, do we we've kind of gotten to the point of the of the season not season zombie season
spk_0 FedEx cup fall.
spk_0 It kind of accounts.
spk_0 You can improve your ranking, but not not if you were in the top 50.
spk_0 Just all these kinds of we're kind of into procedural SZN.
spk_0 I would say which if you're into that kind of thing, it's you know,
spk_0 as always fun to watch these and if you're not.
spk_0 Enjoy watching football, enjoy playing in the leaves.
spk_0 Do do whatever you'd like to do.
spk_0 This time of year.
spk_0 Any any other big picture thoughts on kind of the fall or this event or where is this event
spk_0 sticking around what is what is the future of this event?
spk_0 I think this event's going away.
spk_0 I think this was the last one.
spk_0 So apologies to everybody who's a big fan of the chicken championship.
spk_0 I believe Wayne Sanderson.
spk_0 I wasn't familiar with Wayne particularly.
spk_0 I was familiar with Sanderson Farms, but not Wayne in particular.
spk_0 Not about it.
spk_0 I think it will not be sponsoring this next year.
spk_0 I just can't imagine that the Jackson Mississippi fits in with Brian Rollap's vision of a.
spk_0 Of a global sports.
spk_0 Property.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Yeah, which is nothing against Jackson.
spk_0 I like this.
spk_0 I like this course.
spk_0 It's a good host venue.
spk_0 Like it's a proper court.
spk_0 I mean, Stephen Fisk.
spk_0 Proper player.
spk_0 I think this event is a weird one.
spk_0 It's kind of a.
spk_0 A little bit of a home of some harsh truths probably and it's like.
spk_0 Randy.
spk_0 Randy got me this is a weird connection.
spk_0 Randy got me a book when I saw him.
spk_0 This week.
spk_0 And Randy I started reading it.
spk_0 It's very thoughtful.
spk_0 And it's basically about the kind of decimation of minor league baseball.
spk_0 And in 2022 and MLB went from like a.
spk_0 ப right now we know it'll power in.
spk_0
spk_0
spk_0 email brmit track minus
spk_0 $220 and 20 And 20 and years.
spk_0 And 150 pages.
spk_0 Then errrrr it's kind of the out the whole idea is.
spk_0 You know, as much as these things just kind of look like a line out of spreadsheet.
spk_0 It's also kind of taken away the opportunity that kids have to see future major
spk_0 your leagars and you know, a night out at the ballpark
spk_0 that's affordable and all those things.
spk_0 And so that's, it's just hard not to feel exactly the same way
spk_0 about some of these PJ tour events
spk_0 where I'm like, man, should they exist
spk_0 in the vision of a big bright PJ tour future?
spk_0 Like probably not.
spk_0 But are there people there that love it
spk_0 and probably get a ton out of it
spk_0 and all the charity aspects of it?
spk_0 And like, yeah, definitely.
spk_0 And so I think those two things,
spk_0 I certainly won't pretend to have the right answer,
spk_0 but it does, I don't know, just kind of ties in to nots
spk_0 at least a little bit.
spk_0 I feel like it's kind of how I feel watching these events.
spk_0 I don't think that's unfair at all.
spk_0 I think that's probably pretty spot on.
spk_0 Actually, Pat Battle, the guy that rolled up
spk_0 a lot of those things, big Augusta guy,
spk_0 a lot of those minor league tournaments.
spk_0 I mean, what's the, what's the solution?
spk_0 Does the corn fairy tour get bigger and more wide ranging?
spk_0 I also find it a little bit outrageous
spk_0 that the mini tour, like the one big mini tour
spk_0 is in Canada and Latin America?
spk_0 Yeah, I totally feel the same way.
spk_0 That was gonna be my, you know,
spk_0 with six seconds of thought here is like shooting from the hip.
spk_0 It's, yeah, almost like how do you,
spk_0 is there a big difference if you are in Jackson, Mississippi
spk_0 between seeing Garic Hago and seeing somebody
spk_0 who's good enough to play on, you know,
spk_0 the equivalent of PJ tour Canada, PJ tour, Latin America,
spk_0 probably not, you know, and so yeah, I don't know
spk_0 if you can just get a little bit more of a grassroots
spk_0 American tour kind of under the PGA tour flag
spk_0 that's still not the corn, not the corn fairy tour.
spk_0 I don't know, I'm kind of grasping it at stuff here,
spk_0 but it's, I get it, it's a business
spk_0 and they need to figure out what works,
spk_0 but it's just a, I don't know,
spk_0 you can feel a lot less focus group of one here.
spk_0 You can just feel a lot less energy
spk_0 about these types of events.
spk_0 I feel like then even you felt seven, eight years ago.
spk_0 And when everything was equal.
spk_0 Yeah, and that, I mean, again, that's probably the right call,
spk_0 but it does just kind of stink
spk_0 for the people and places that are involved.
spk_0 So weird tangent there.
spk_0 I wasn't expecting to go to road.
spk_0 Oh, good.
spk_0 I think it's a, it's probably, it's kind of the tour
spk_0 being ripped at the seams and probably should have happened
spk_0 a long time ago and they kept it together
spk_0 for as long as they could,
spk_0 but for as much as, for as valuable as it is,
spk_0 for a market like this,
spk_0 I think it also does a disservice
spk_0 to some of the bigger events on tour
spk_0 to pretend like everything is the same.
spk_0 No, for sure, absolutely.
spk_0 Moving down the line on the corn fairy tour,
spk_0 your guy ADDC, TC, just, just, and I have a clinic.
spk_0 They're not done yet.
spk_0 He's on 18 right now.
spk_0 He's, he's gonna shoot 61 61 64.
spk_0 Looks like 65 or minus 33 for a seven or eight shot win
spk_0 over Marty Dow.
spk_0 So just, I think this is what the prophecy foretold.
spk_0 It's just been.
spk_0 Get him on the team.
spk_0 A little bit.
spk_0 Get him on the team.
spk_0 Get him on the team is right.
spk_0 He started 26th on the points list this week
spk_0 up to sixth with the win.
spk_0 So get him on the team.
spk_0 Got some other guys jockeying to get in that.
spk_0 I think it's top 75.
spk_0 Get into next week corn fairy tour championship.
spk_0 And then, you know, so James Nicholas went from 78 to 62nd.
spk_0 What else we got?
spk_0 Dylan Wu jumped up.
spk_0 He said kind of a controversial year.
spk_0 Cole Hammer jumped into the top 75 as well.
spk_0 So some, some topsy turviness there.
spk_0 But yeah, it's, it just doesn't seem like all that serious
spk_0 of a golf course, the Patriot golf club in O'ahuasso,
spk_0 Oklahoma.
spk_0 Randy, are you familiar?
spk_0 I'm not, but I need to be.
spk_0 I, yeah.
spk_0 One Patriot to another.
spk_0 I need to, how many, how many birdies do you think you've made
spk_0 this year, Randy?
spk_0 Well, I can tell you exactly 37, I believe.
spk_0 All right.
spk_0 Adrian Dumanick.
spk_0 They just aren't made, has made 32 birdies this week.
spk_0 This week.
spk_0 He's easier, easier golf courses than Randy though.
spk_0 Like that's the hard part.
spk_0 He's got, I've made 36.
spk_0 He's got a bit more tools in the toolkit than I do.
spk_0 I feel like, yeah, right?
spk_0 Randy's played proper golf courses though.
spk_0 I think actually he just made those, those 32 birdies and two
spk_0 Eagles in the last four days.
spk_0 I imagine he made more in the pro and the practice rounds.
spk_0 All of that as well.
spk_0 What a heavy thought.
spk_0 Speaking of which, Davis Chatfield shot 59 down at the, at the
spk_0 Patriot, happy for all the 59 celebrators.
spk_0 I, you know, I feel like whenever we're on this podcast, we're like,
spk_0 man, 59's don't seem like they really mean anything anymore.
spk_0 Lot of pushback.
spk_0 People just celebrating the streets.
spk_0 So I hope everybody really got the picnic tables out.
spk_0 He shot 59, finished minus 20, think 15.
spk_0 People really, dude, do they get on you when you, I just remember
spk_0 when it was God, I feel horrible.
spk_0 This is going to prove my exact point.
spk_0 That's right.
spk_0 The guy who shot 59 at John Deere, Hayden Springer, shot 59 at John
spk_0 Deere a couple of years ago.
spk_0 And I remember we had a little bit of a like, is this the thing?
spk_0 What, remember when they used to break into coverage and like people
spk_0 stop at the office and I mean, it was just like the biggest deal ever.
spk_0 And yeah, I just remember getting a weird amount of pushback on, you know,
spk_0 just like this is, this is the most impressive thing ever.
spk_0 And you're totally giving short shrift, which like, listen,
spk_0 you still got to get the ball in the hole.
spk_0 I got to know it's super impressive.
spk_0 It's just not as, it's not as fun anymore.
spk_0 I think was my larger point.
spk_0 But yeah, anyways, TC speaking of the rider cup, speaking to get him on the team,
spk_0 you know, you know, when you, you're playing like an event or something
spk_0 and you make a birdie and you got to validate it on the next hole for to,
spk_0 like to really count.
spk_0 That's where your guy big shot bob just did at the Thunhill.
spk_0 Just, you know, was it short into 54 holes?
spk_0 Yes, not his fault Saturday weather.
spk_0 Absolutely.
spk_0 Absolutely wash out over there in, in Scotland.
spk_0 But big shot bob prevails.
spk_0 The rider cup teammates playing well.
spk_0 That was that had to fill up the heart.
spk_0 It did 66 66 66.
spk_0 Wow.
spk_0 And we're giving all the Bob six for the, you know, around that was cancelled.
spk_0 Finished up on the old course today.
spk_0 You know, just, just a proper, proper winner for the Thunhill links over at
spk_0 Karnusty and Kings Barnes and in the old, you know, I'm trying to forget
spk_0 from my memory that Bob was slagging off the road hole.
spk_0 Was that last year or two years?
spk_0 Last year, so it should be blown up.
spk_0 So it's just not a good hole from the back to you.
spk_0 So any bogated, bogated today as well.
spk_0 I hated that.
spk_0 He finished or ahead of Tyrell five ahead of John Perry and the great man, Richard
spk_0 Sterney.
spk_0 And, you know, we had Jacob Scovall, who's a writer and Brooks played.
spk_0 I think this is this one of Brooks's favorite events of the year Tom McKibbin
spk_0 played.
spk_0 Matt Fitzpatrick turned up.
spk_0 Tommy turned up.
spk_0 They both finished T21.
spk_0 Just just props to them for showing up this week.
spk_0 Blerey eyed after the celebration after that long bus ride.
spk_0 Singing all the songs and they they they rocked up and they got it done.
spk_0 And you got rassmas played well at, uh, in Mississippi.
spk_0 Yeah, we didn't didn't mention that.
spk_0 But only other note from the from the Thunhill in a note, you know, in a
spk_0 harbinger of perhaps things to come.
spk_0 We had a shot of yasser out of social media.
spk_0 It always plays in the Dunhill up on the stage.
spk_0 Just singing not necessarily karaoke, but very much kind of a background singer
spk_0 in what looked like some sort of a gala or, you know, post around cocktail party or
spk_0 something singing sweet Caroline.
spk_0 I know Randy.
spk_0 That's one of your favorites.
spk_0 But a lot of just a lot of leading men, uh, karaoke this week, which we're going
spk_0 to which we're going to get to.
spk_0 Great.
spk_0 There was a lot of room for is that who was up there too?
spk_0 Yeah, yeah, they're just trying to try to bring everything back together.
spk_0 Also, I didn't want to call out that Harrison Crowe won the, uh, one
spk_0 the pro amp portion.
spk_0 He was the pro.
spk_0 You won with JP McManus's son-in-law.
spk_0 Harrison Crowe finished minus four.
spk_0 And as a team, they finished 33 under.
spk_0 Oh, whoa.
spk_0 Tough to beat.
spk_0 Oh, potentially a bandit there.
spk_0 That was just a career week.
spk_0 Just couldn't, couldn't stop, you know, could stop filling it up.
spk_0 Can you imagine if it was a career week?
spk_0 He played off a plus eight.
spk_0 Yeah, just could stop making birdies.
spk_0 Uh, well, congratulations to them.
spk_0 Harrison Crowe, it sounds like kind of another one for our professional golfer or
spk_0 country music star, uh, game around to that.
spk_0 It could be trace Crowe's brother.
spk_0 Exactly.
spk_0 Randy, what happened on the LPGA?
spk_0 The LPGA, they were in Hawaii.
spk_0 They were on a Wahoo, the Latte championship guys.
spk_0 Lote.
spk_0 There's like six companies in Korea.
spk_0 26th different winner this year in 25 events.
spk_0 We had another new winner on the LPGA.
spk_0 She wouldn't even a member of the LPGA.
spk_0 It's you, Min Hoang.
spk_0 She is Korean.
spk_0 She got a sponsor invite.
spk_0 She plays her golf on the Korean LPGA.
spk_0 She won by one shot over a Huju Kim.
spk_0 And props to Huang.
spk_0 She birdied the last four holes and five out of her last six holes to win by one shot.
spk_0 So with the win, she gets the choice.
spk_0 She can either accept full LPGA membership immediately.
spk_0 There's like a deferral where I think she would start her quote-unquote rookie year next year.
spk_0 Or she can choose to stay in Korea if that's what she wishes.
spk_0 But herity is rather control to her.
spk_0 It sucks.
spk_0 Like it truly sucks.
spk_0 It was like fun for a little.
spk_0 And now we're just like,
spk_0 this isn't it.
spk_0 So other big names.
spk_0 Nelly Korta was over here.
spk_0 She finished tied for fourth at 14 under three shots back.
spk_0 The EY twins were involved.
spk_0 Aki A finished in that tied for fourth group.
spk_0 Nasahata Oka was tied for eighth.
spk_0 Where did Chisato EY Oshi drop top?
spk_0 T14.
spk_0 Yeah, 71 71 weekend.
spk_0 Top 10.
spk_0 So yeah,
spk_0 they're now that they're kind of using Hawaii as a midway point.
spk_0 The LPGA now goes over to Asia for their second Asia swing of the year
spk_0 before finishing back in Florida in November.
spk_0 So.
spk_0 Fascinating to see what Craig Kessler does with the schedule too.
spk_0 I feel like I'm asking you kind of an impossible question here, big.
spk_0 But anything you can chalk up the parody too.
spk_0 Is this like a just a freak storm?
spk_0 Is this someone's injured who would be hoovering up tournaments?
spk_0 Is this someone can't put like I don't know like I said,
spk_0 is there anything glaring I guess or what's your best guess?
spk_0 Yeah, I think it's just like everything all of it all all.
spk_0 I mean,
spk_0 I think you start with Nelly like for Nelly not to have won a tournament this year is shocking
spk_0 right after winning seven times last year.
spk_0 So we can start with Nelly.
spk_0 Obviously we can point some fingers at the other top players in the world
spk_0 for not getting it done more than once.
spk_0 You know, one thing I want to ask Craig,
spk_0 Tron, we've talked about this on podcasts is just how much how they go about setting the golf
spk_0 course up and how that perhaps just allows for truly kind of anybody to win week to week.
spk_0 It doesn't seem to really favor one type of player necessarily.
spk_0 Or identify the most talented player.
spk_0 Right. Like how it goes about identifying the best player that week,
spk_0 it just seems very arbitrary.
spk_0 Maybe I don't know.
spk_0 I would love for Craig or somebody that can kind of speak more knowledge
spk_0 believe on that.
spk_0 But yeah, Dej, I think it's probably just like insane
spk_0 for winsidence too.
spk_0 It's like it's all of those things.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 TC and your neck of the woods last kind of check in here.
spk_0 You guys Tommy, two gloves, Gainy, wins at Tim Aquana Country Club,
spk_0 a furekin friends. He was a Monday qualifier.
spk_0 Now has his status locked up on the champions tour PJ tour champions.
spk_0 I should say it says in my notes here, TC watched quote a concerning amount of this event.
spk_0 Just need to know what your takeaways were.
spk_0 Yeah, Sal and I were out there on Thursday.
spk_0 Just kind of wandering around trying to get, trying to get some quotes from some guys for
spk_0 beat the podcast for work.
spk_0 Adam Schupack was talking to Stuart Sink about
spk_0 his rider cup stuff that we'll get to.
spk_0 Whether it was pretty not good over there, pretty windy all week.
spk_0 Watched a lot of it.
spk_0 It's just really interesting to watch these guys
spk_0 out on the range and just what the differentiator is out on the senior tour.
spk_0 Matt Goggle looked like he was going to run away with this thing on Saturday and then
spk_0 bottled it today and DuVal was playing well.
spk_0 Randy, I mean, he basically a home game.
spk_0 Basically a home game.
spk_0 Yeah, I grew up there and I've played that course enough to Aquana.
spk_0 It's a classic Donald Ross design with a lot of short grass around the greens and some great
spk_0 par fives that really make these guys push their chips in.
spk_0 It was just really interesting.
spk_0 John Katrick and Peter Jacobson.
spk_0 I was just locked in.
spk_0 I was watching college football on one screen.
spk_0 Amphians tore on the other screen and I couldn't turn it off.
spk_0 It's fascinating.
spk_0 So Gainey, I mean, glad his fortunes have turned around here in Florida.
spk_0 Last time he was on Operation Sanis Nodilist.
spk_0 Now he's on Operation Sanis Nice List.
spk_0 Monday and in.
spk_0 What a place to do it too.
spk_0 Furek was the one who was, he was getting chirpy about guys who haven't played the tour for
spk_0 20 to 25 years.
spk_0 He didn't win at least three times.
spk_0 Oh, you know, the Champions tours really not for them.
spk_0 Well, tell me Gainey, you know, kind of a kind of a layplool or kick the door down.
spk_0 He's in the boys club now.
spk_0 I love it.
spk_0 Good for him.
spk_0 Well, listen, we're going to get to a lot of a lot of other stuff.
spk_0 TC, I'm going to turn the ship over to you here in a minute.
spk_0 But first, I want to give a shout out to our friends at the stack system.
spk_0 Randy, this is a strange place to start.
spk_0 You and I played a lot of golf together this week.
spk_0 And I just straight up, my speed was down.
spk_0 And that's because I have, I have not been stacking this summer as much.
spk_0 I did a lot last winter.
spk_0 My speed went through the roof.
spk_0 And I think I bought into, you know what?
spk_0 I'm just, I'm going to cruise now.
spk_0 You know, I'm a different person.
spk_0 I'm just going to, I'm just going to enjoy this.
spk_0 I didn't maintain.
spk_0 It's a classic, a classic mistake.
spk_0 I'm out there neck and neck with you.
spk_0 With the driver, you know, that's just never something you would want to pass.
spk_0 You never seriously want to pass.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 So it's like, it was a good wake up call that I needed that, you know, like, like we said
spk_0 at the beginning, weather's going to turn here.
spk_0 It's going to be time to get back in the garage and start getting that,
spk_0 getting that speed back up and will not make the same mistake next year.
spk_0 So if this sounds like you or, or if you, you sound like you want to be in the second
spk_0 part of this conversation, blow in the by pat, the ball pass, Randy.
spk_0 Visit www.stacksystem.com.
spk_0 Slash NLU use code no laying up.
spk_0 Get yourself a little bit off.
spk_0 And yeah, enjoy some, enjoy some hashtag gains out there.
spk_0 TC, we have a lot to get to here, my man.
spk_0 So you tell me it's your, you know, your ship.
spk_0 Where do you want to take this thing?
spk_0 Couple more loose ends of tie off.
spk_0 I want to shout out the US women's mid-Amp,
spk_0 going to MPCC, Monterey Peninsula Country Club.
spk_0 To take some scenes out there.
spk_0 Just delightful scenes.
spk_0 Absolutely.
spk_0 Scroper venue.
spk_0 Can I ask you a question?
spk_0 Sorry, super quick.
spk_0 Again, sorry if this is a bad setup and you guys have no idea.
spk_0 But for all the, all the hornets nest that we stepped in around the,
spk_0 the men's mid-Amp about reinstated ams, is that a problem on the women's side, I wonder?
spk_0 Well, there's, I know, I was looking at it earlier.
spk_0 Brooks say, from little Brooke from Stanford, she's in the mix.
spk_0 I don't know if she ever turned pro or not.
spk_0 Mine?
spk_0 Yeah, I wonder if she officially ever did turn pro.
spk_0 I don't know.
spk_0 And then because I was thinking of that earlier,
spk_0 Dej, because Catherine Zhu as well, she was, I know she turned pro very briefly,
spk_0 but then was reinstated as well.
spk_0 I don't think it doesn't seem like it's as big of an issue on that side of things.
spk_0 So,
spk_0 but hey, Marina Alex is the wrong.
spk_0 That's that out.
spk_0 Yeah, exactly.
spk_0 Marina get her amensure status.
spk_0 That's right.
spk_0 I agree.
spk_0 Anyways, yeah.
spk_0 Sorry, continue.
spk_0 Anyway, and then yeah, Wagger changes a foot.
spk_0 They didn't even send out really an announcement.
spk_0 It was just, it was very under the radar.
spk_0 So we'll see
spk_0 they're they're evaluating the world amateur golf rankings.
spk_0 I mean, nipulators are on notice.
spk_0 It's a big problem.
spk_0 It's a big, big problem.
spk_0 Party's over guys.
spk_0 I was with the TC.
spk_0 I was trying to read this release and I just realized how broken my brain was
spk_0 because I was I was reading this after I read all the Don Ray stuff and I was
spk_0 catching up on Yoss or Sagan karaoke and I'm just trying to read like a very
spk_0 serious release for the RDA about the world.
spk_0 They have your golf rankings.
spk_0 I'm like, I don't care about this.
spk_0 Like, let me go.
spk_0 Let's get back to that.
spk_0 Michelson tweet about Lou Holtz.
spk_0 Can we talk about that?
spk_0 You know, it's just.
spk_0 I'm glad there's I'm glad there's serious people doing important stuff.
spk_0 But it's a yeah, it's just it's weird how a few in far between some of those stories
spk_0 feel at times.
spk_0 Well, lastly, before we get to this series, people doing serious stuff,
spk_0 we can, you know, there's a live 2024 financial statements came out.
spk_0 This was losing a lot of money.
spk_0 I don't think we need to really belabor it.
spk_0 You can read the financials.
spk_0 The only thing I would belabor is that again, many people have pointed this out,
spk_0 but worth mentioning this is only their events outside of the United States.
spk_0 So they're losing like almost $500 million in the past year just on the events outside
spk_0 the United States, which is what?
spk_0 Fab half of them.
spk_0 Maybe.
spk_0 So I mean, listen, maybe they're making a billion dollars on the US-based ones.
spk_0 I know that yeah, that's certainly the claim that many people would try to pull over on you.
spk_0 But yeah, just an obscene amount of money going out the door on some of these these last three seasons.
spk_0 It's it's amazing.
spk_0 And I think the only other thing they like quickly add, like they're
spk_0 one of their primary revenue sources on that side of it is just the courses paying host fees to
spk_0 them to be able to.
spk_0 Well, in like cities like.
spk_0 Like, yeah, either exactly.
spk_0 You know, there's the city.
spk_0 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
spk_0 The state, yeah.
spk_0 Which is like, oh god.
spk_0 It's unbelievable.
spk_0 It's just lighted on fires puts a lot of pressure on the beer and
spk_0 teacher's sales.
spk_0 I think.
spk_0 Which yeah, the cleaks I saw something this week of
spk_0 Kym or saying that, you know, they don't have the money to
spk_0 to do signing bonuses or anything like that.
spk_0 But they've got some guys that are that are interested.
spk_0 So true small market.
spk_0 Yeah, I'll tell you what, TZ, you need a hell of a pitching lab if that's how you're going to run things.
spk_0 Uh,
spk_0 why did you add a toast?
spk_0 Or a guy just stinks like, like, uh,
spk_0 Frederick Ketter, but where do you guys want to start with the rider cup?
spk_0 Lots of cover down on you guys were kind of off the grid the first.
spk_0 Yeah, I want to ease into it.
spk_0 T.C. I don't want to, I don't want to go to the main course yet.
spk_0 So I want to start with this tweet from Phil Mikkelson.
spk_0 And I want to say up front that I largely agree with what he's getting at here.
spk_0 But I will stop at the end.
spk_0 Quote, here's why looking outside of golf to a coach K or
spk_0 Lou Holtz is worth exploring.
spk_0 This is of course in reference to the rider cup.
spk_0 Golf is an individual sport that doesn't have teamwork, support system,
spk_0 partnership, team analytics, personality traits and more.
spk_0 Europeans have a template that teaches and prepares their captains for these skills.
spk_0 The US has a new template every two years with little continuity.
spk_0 I agree with all of that except for, I would say two words,
spk_0 which is going to use again.
spk_0 If coach K or Lou Holtz or someone similar took over,
spk_0 would it be built upon or would it be scrapped again and started over afterwards?
spk_0 If that's the case, it would be a waste of time and an effort not worth doing to begin with.
spk_0 Lou Holtz is 88 years old.
spk_0 I don't think he's coaching the US rider cup.
spk_0 Clarified that though.
spk_0 He said, he said someone like Lou Holtz.
spk_0 Like Lou Holtz.
spk_0 Okay, well, that's good.
spk_0 That's good because the, that was just jarring to read kind of over the
spk_0 morning coffee the other day.
spk_0 But I do think the sentiment of what he's getting at, I stand with.
spk_0 And I like the idea of having someone who's good at organizing.
spk_0 You know, like, he's Lou Holtz on the tip of his tongue.
spk_0 Like, why, can't we at least say like Nick Sabin now?
spk_0 Like, Lou Holtz is last national title was 1988.
spk_0 Like, I'm not even sure Lou Holtz was a good coach.
spk_0 Right.
spk_0 And there's that too.
spk_0 But yeah, let's,
spk_0 I, yeah, I mean, Randy, we were kind of saying this a while back.
spk_0 As like as early as, I think 21 or 22 of just,
spk_0 he like, why, why aren't we bringing in Hoto Wolf to run a team
spk_0 or Kyle Shanahan or Sean McVeigh or Nick Cereoni?
spk_0 So yeah, yeah.
spk_0
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 The SSG guy should, you know, redirect him.
spk_0 Man, I even think about, about Theo.
spk_0 And we, you know, we talked about this a lot during Redduckup Week, but
spk_0 SSG investment capital and maybe the Redduckup gets spun off and Theo's working on golf stuff.
spk_0 Now, maybe, I mean, maybe that's the ultimate play.
spk_0 I love that.
spk_0 Redduckup's are.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 Can you imagine the Redsox, the Cubs, and then the US Redduckup team winning in Europe?
spk_0 Like, that's the best resume that there is.
spk_0 That's true.
spk_0 God, that would, I would not have seen that coming.
spk_0 But at TC, to your point, like, we have, and you know, we, we always set it jokingly,
spk_0 but I truly do think you saw it with USA basketball, right?
spk_0 It's creating kind of a, a person that sits atop and can be a high level decision maker
spk_0 to really direct the, the program, if you will, in certain directions.
spk_0 I feel like the writer cup is screaming for something like that.
spk_0 Well, they, well, I think it is, but I don't think that the PGA of America has years.
spk_0 Right.
spk_0 And that can, and can hear that because I, like, and, and, and even if they did have ears and could hear
spk_0 that, I don't think that they're capable of actually enacting change in anything like that.
spk_0 I mean, they're, they're, it's just like they're disconnected from,
spk_0 I think if I'm a US layer, I'm like, like, I think we've beat up on these guys a lot for
spk_0 some of the money stuff or whatever, but I think if they're really pissed, make it more about
spk_0 governance and what your, like, PGA of America, what's, what's your standing these days?
spk_0 You have no, no standing in the pro game and you certainly don't know how to do operations
spk_0 and logistics and like, you're just wholly un-serious. And we have no connection to your organization
spk_0 at this point. I think, yeah, yeah, I don't, I used to bag on the USGA for this a little bit and I
spk_0 think the USJ has gotten a lot better in the last couple of years about how as a, you know,
spk_0 handy cap carrying golfer in the United States, I'm like, man, I still other than the US
spk_0 open and the US women's open in a couple of other amateur events, like, I don't have a good sense
spk_0 of what the USG is doing. And I know, you know, with, with the rollback stuff for better,
spk_0 worse, depending on how you feel about that, that's a very clear point of where, you know,
spk_0 their impact on the game is being felt. But I think even they've gotten better at this
spk_0 storytelling around some of the agronomy stuff and some of the ways that they're trying to,
spk_0 you know, make the game more sustainable. And all of that is a big set up to say,
spk_0 I don't get that sense from the, that same sense from the PGA of America. I know roughly,
spk_0 it's like, yeah, you kind of support the, you know, PGA members and the club professionals,
spk_0 but I they're not even doing that. Don't get a great, I don't hear from a lot of them that are
spk_0 loving what you guys are doing there. So it's like, I just, yeah, I'm kind of left with
spk_0 a little bit of, it just feels rudderless from a, you know, that seems like the people at the top
spk_0 are having a hell of a time, you know, it seems like a real great honor in the game. But it just
spk_0 strikes me as this organization that feels like it's stuck in like 1995. And this day when like,
spk_0 the golf pro was the pillar of the community. And we're just going to kind of ride the fumes of that.
spk_0 And we'll kind of elect some new, you know, officers every couple years and, and go on these big
spk_0 trips and, you know, everybody have kind of patched on the back for growing the game. I, it seems
spk_0 like PGA Junior League is like an example of something. I was going to say that's the one great. Yeah.
spk_0 I have had nephews involved in that. And I realized that's probably like depending on where you are
spk_0 and the clubs and the pros that are putting effort into that. But I know a lot of people that
spk_0 have had really good experiences with the PGA Junior League. I think the sections are, you know,
spk_0 on, I think the majority of the sections are probably doing a really good job too. Like at the
spk_0 local level, the PGA themes to be functioning as intended, largely on the back of, of, you know,
spk_0 the club pros and the system club pros on the local level. It just seems like while they
spk_0 disconnected from the national level. And they have some outright goons and cartoon characters
spk_0 representing them on the national stage. And I don't know. Like, I mean, yeah, like we're,
spk_0 like, so ratings were down this year. We've got, I mean, there's like, there's, I got 25 different
spk_0 things on the list here. I've got this guy, not, not really PGA related, but I did want to just
spk_0 make light of this. This is from the New York Times or the athletic. It was a man,
spk_0 Cretchenzo Stassi, a 38 year old of Westbury, Westbury, New York,
spk_0 Stola Golf Club or a golf cart at the Ryder Cup on Saturday. And it sounded like that was,
spk_0 that was maybe the least of their concerns on Saturday. They may have to have heard
spk_0 it. Some security over to the McElroy group by that point. Well, going back to like the actual
spk_0 captain conversation a little bit, I know some of the total wolfs and things like that are
spk_0 a little bit tongue and cheek, but like, who are like, who's your pick, Randy? Who's your guy right now?
spk_0 Just because I know he's a golf freak and he's already involved at the tour level would be,
spk_0 honestly, it'd be Theo probably. If you're looking for somebody that has a true history of building
spk_0 organizational success, right? Kind of turning organizations around implementing processes.
spk_0 You know, I can't give you a detailed accounting of like, this is exactly what he did when he
spk_0 was in Chicago or Boston, but I trust him. Like, I would, Theo, just go in, you're the Ryder Cups are
spk_0 and give him kind of carte blanche and give him some resources. And I trust that he
spk_0 at the other end of it, we're going to have a process and a team and a way to select,
spk_0 like everything's going to just at least make a lot more sense than it would now.
spk_0 Randy, they they they had these specialty cocktails out there on the hospitality tents
spk_0 that they put squeaky rubber ducks in. This became quite a thing. I think that was Saturday. Wasn't it?
spk_0 It was Saturday or Sunday. I can't remember. But yeah, there was, I think that stopped play a
spk_0 couple of times because people were squeaking the ducks so much. That was, as far as I didn't make
spk_0 our Sunday show, that was good stuff. Unserious. This thing has become. The PGA of America has,
spk_0 never mind like, I thought Brendan D'Yong had a great thing this week on the five club show of
spk_0 just you saying like, just think about the the makeup of your team that you've got
spk_0 JJ Spawn and Harris English and Russell Henley, like guys that play really well on really,
spk_0 really difficult golf course. Scotty Shephler. Scotty Shephler. And you set it up to be like a
spk_0 fucking pitch and put the Antithesis of what Beth Pidge Black is all about. The set up. So funny.
spk_0 The set up stuff. Yeah, it makes you matter, matter, the more you think about it, which again is kind
spk_0 of like a, I don't know, I would love to, I think it's very easy to blame Keegan for that stuff.
spk_0 And ultimately, as he said in the press conference, like he should take the blame for that in the
spk_0 current set up. But it's like, how is there not some sort of infrastructure around of serious
spk_0 adults who stops after happening? And that's to your point, Randy. It's like, yeah, I don't,
spk_0 I don't think Theo Epstein necessarily even has to be the captain. But can he, you know,
spk_0 and someone like that be involved with picking the captain and setting up a system for the captain
spk_0 and making sure that it's not somebody who's also trying to qualify for the team and also trying
spk_0 to win majors and also trying to win $20 million in prize money that is like realistically
spk_0 available to him. So I don't know, TC, where do you fall on the, on the Stewart Sink
spk_0 stuff? Because you mentioned it earlier, Adam Shephler wrote a story for golf week where Stewart Sink
spk_0 kind of laid out that he had an interview with John Wood. And I think maybe they're,
spk_0 we're trying to make John Wood this person, this kind of Ryder Cup whisperer. And then you kind
spk_0 of never really heard anything else from him. So I don't know what happened behind the scenes there.
spk_0 But a point of that was Stewart Sink basically felt like he had an interview, like a phone
spk_0 interview to be potentially the Ryder Cup captain thought it went really well, got a lot of positive
spk_0 feedback on the way out of that call and then just never heard anything from anybody. And his wife
spk_0 eventually told him when they were in Scotland that, oh, I guess Keegan is the captain.
spk_0 So I don't know if you had any thoughts on that or he seemed like he was, you know, in a humble
spk_0 way lobbying to be the next captain. I know he's been involved as an assistant captain. So
spk_0 a long way of setting up any, any broader Stewart Sink thoughts.
spk_0 No, other than, I mean, Stewart was out there this week, like he, like there were, there were a lot
spk_0 of guys in the locker room this week, Matt is hell in the Tim Klonel locker room. We're like,
spk_0 do you believe that shit? That was a joke, man. And I think, I think some of those guys
spk_0 were probably mad as hell about a lot of things. Yeah, there's your yeah. I'm so mad. What are we
spk_0 still mad about? Meanwhile, you got Kevin Kisner responding to one of Jamie Kennedy's tweets about
spk_0 just examples of Luke Donald getting in on the details and Kisner said, weird, we did all the
spk_0 same things, but we don't go advertising it. Like, no, Kevin, I, it doesn't seem like you did any.
spk_0 Scotty didn't even, yeah, they didn't even have the right guys play at odds at events,
spk_0 man. I don't know if they necessarily had the, the betting. So I think to Stewart Sink,
spk_0 like I think Stewart Sink would be a good captain. I think he's like a guy that's like reinventing
spk_0 himself, reinventing his career, really thoughtful guy. Like I like Stewart Sink. I think at the very
spk_0 least, why is he not in the team room or if he's someone that you're looking at to be a potential
spk_0 captain, why don't you have him as an assistant captain at least? And then it sounds like one of the
spk_0 PGA, you know, board members or national members just went rogue on the on wood stuff. And they're
spk_0 paying him a couple hundred grand a year. And nobody else really okayed it or said, hey, you know,
spk_0 John Wood is, is, is our guy that's going to, you know, kind of organize all of this and,
spk_0 and get everybody aligned. And so it just seems like a total lack of, lack of alignment
spk_0 on, on everything. I mean, even Keegan, right? Like, just, that was just like, oh, hey, let's throw,
spk_0 let's throw some shit at the wall and see what sticks. And now I like, I imagine they're probably
spk_0 going to do the same thing with Tiger. Yeah, it feels like the US is, feels like Europe is running
spk_0 things as if it's like a company or a team or something rational. And it seems like the US is
spk_0 running things as if it was a movie made in 1985. And like, man, you know, be fucking rad. What
spk_0 have this guy was the captain? And then he inspired him and then they just like, you know,
spk_0 just let him to victory. Like that would be sick. That would be such a sick movie. And that's what
spk_0 dear boy T.C. It's like the tiger thing I could see one way or the other where it's like if tiger
spk_0 was fully, fully, fully, this is my only thing. I still think he would be good at this because he
spk_0 does have the, oh, I shouldn't say he'd be good at this. I don't know if he'd be good at this or
spk_0 not. But I think I don't want to do anything. The captain stuff. I don't know if he wants to do
spk_0 it. Yeah, I think he wants to do the tactical stuff. I would imagine. I think he would geek out
spk_0 on the analytics and who's playing with who and we need to have this guy and we're doing this for
spk_0 team building. And I mean, I think I'm projecting, but I think he would be into that stuff. And
spk_0 obviously has the gravitas. And I don't know if that means he sucks up all the oxygen in the room.
spk_0 Or if that means he makes everybody feel like they're 15 feet tall. I have no idea how that would
spk_0 go. But again, it's like without all the support staff stuff and without taking all the things that
spk_0 tiger doesn't want to do off of his plate, you know, like I don't think it's going to be the same
spk_0 result I would imagine. Does it seem a little bit like the Europeans have almost taken this to
spk_0 such a serious, like, you know, they're just such seriousness and great preparation that
spk_0 to a point where like the Americans just don't care that much.
spk_0 Totally. Like, hey, like, what, like, we're not going to like come over there like two weeks early.
spk_0 Well, that's what I almost, I was talking to Randy about this week a little bit. And I think what's,
spk_0 I think what's the sense that I get is I do think the Americans care. I think they think that
spk_0 they care in the same way, you know, and I think they get to a point where it's like, all right,
spk_0 two weeks before the event, man, I'm right. This is 100% my focus. This is all I'm going to,
spk_0 all I'm thinking about. And I am trying hard in the practice around. And I am learning the course.
spk_0 And I am doing all like I think they, I don't know if they're doing that stuff.
spk_0 Compared to the whole thing that came out this week. They maybe only played what,
spk_0 what nine and nine and then a couple holes. That's tough. But anyways, yeah, it's just like,
spk_0 it's just not the same, not the same level level, level, do devil, potentially.
spk_0 So yeah, I don't know. I think that let's just talk again through it. I think that leads to the,
spk_0 leads is to the link did DC. A lot of talk, a lot of talk about the crowds at Beth Page,
spk_0 a lot of talk about some things being yelled at players in the general mood and the lack of the
spk_0 PJM America's response to it, potentially even the PJM America egging some of it on many people
spk_0 were saying with all of the, oh my god, you know, four years of this is going to be so crazy. This
spk_0 is going to be so crazy. That led our guide Don Ray, president of the PJM America to take to
spk_0 LinkedIn and say quote, couple thoughts. This is my,
spk_0 I
spk_0 Galslet that's it. Couple of thoughts. Period. This is my profile, not the PGA's. That being said,
spk_0 thank you to all who have reached out to me as a friend and golf industry leader. I'm personally
spk_0 taking some criticism right now and that comes with the role just like what I was an umpire. I
spk_0 expect it. Don Ray for those that don't know was a minor league umpire for a long time before this.
spk_0 Maybe they got rid of his role because there's so many, there's so many fewer. The room
spk_0 league. Yeah, that's true. Exactly. They're moving to
spk_0 the mobile homes are coming up. Right. However, to the students and PGA members that follow me know
spk_0 this. I am not bothered. I know who I ultimately serve when I wrote this sermon three years ago,
spk_0 I meant it and today I am living it. The truth is still the truth. New level, new devil,
spk_0 bicep emoji, pray emoji, USA flag emoji. And it seems like a link to a sermon that he
spk_0 that he gave a yeah, a couple of years ago. TC, I there have been I'm embarrassed to say there's
spk_0 been stretches of the last few days where I haven't been thinking about new level, new devil.
spk_0 And then it just what I do think about it again, it just wallops me. It just knocks me off my tracks.
spk_0 I just think that's going to be with us forever. I don't know that that's ever ever going away.
spk_0 Randy, this hit you as hard as it hit me. Oh, I mean, TC just delighting in it this week,
spk_0 new level, new devil. Of course, it's iconic. It's truly the new more money, more problems.
spk_0 That's what it is. He was deleting replies and comments on LinkedIn as well. People coming
spk_0 after him on his LinkedIn, hate that. So just to take you guys through the week, we had the
spk_0 Tom Watson apology tweet. I was on September 29th. That's a great man. Yeah. I'd like to congratulate
spk_0 Ryder Cup Europe on their victory. Your team played the first few days with sensational. More
spk_0 importantly, I'd like to apologize for the root and mean spirit of behavior from our American crowd
spk_0 at Beth pitch as a former player captain. It has an American. I am ashamed of what happened.
spk_0 So we had that. We had Heather McMahon getting tossed into the bus. He went on her podcast and said
spk_0 this was for those. No, no, this was the first TMC who quote stepped out from her role in disgrace
spk_0 after leading. I think on a moment of of of quick spontaneity, a fuck you, Rory chant that
spk_0 was not well received from our friends across the pond for good reason. Yeah, sorry. So she
spk_0 also hosts a podcast and I think she just said, hey, they didn't, you know, they didn't tell me
spk_0 what they wanted me to do. These crowds were were rudderless. My mom texted me today. She said
spk_0 that this is your mom or this is Heather still talking about my mom. My mom texted me today.
spk_0 She said she's a great, a great woman. Heather McMahon is a member of that went athletic club
spk_0 and they're voting this week on whether to kick her and her husband out of the club. No,
spk_0 that's beautiful. All right. I can't get that one. What are we doing? Yeah, we can't cancel. She's
spk_0 a comedian. Yeah. What else? We had Brent Lee Romine suggested that Keegan should captain the
spk_0 team in Ireland. I think in a moment of weakness, I that thought crossed my mind as well. And I
spk_0 was like, man, I think he is going to, I think he's going to learn some hard truths from this.
spk_0 I think he's going to have some experience. I think there's something to be said about continuity.
spk_0 I think there's something to be said about not just like throwing somebody like feeding someone
spk_0 into the lion's den going over and you know, captain and away one. But then I'm like, well,
spk_0 also he's just going to do nothing. We like play not nothing, but I mean, he's going to just play
spk_0 competitive golf for the next two years, which he should because he's one of the, you know,
spk_0 15 best players in the world. So as long as that's the case, which was kind of what your guy
spk_0 Kitch and Sink was saying, I was like, man, I'm 52. Like I am not doing anything else.
spk_0 I think he had a quote in that show wherever you want. If you want me to go to every PJ tour event,
spk_0 I'll do it. And I'm like, that's over. That's what I'm talking about, man. That's what we're looking for.
spk_0 So yeah, I don't know. I saw Bradley's tweet as well. And I in a moment of weakness, I felt the same,
spk_0 but then I think my cooler heads went to prevailed. So then everybody's, everybody's livid
spk_0 McEwen and bunker. They had, they had their column, some stuff on their website, calling for
spk_0 for dawn to resign. And then, Amen. Amen. Had just a scorching scorching
spk_0 follow. I mean, it was incredible. The rest of Amin's piece, if you didn't read it, which you
spk_0 should go read it on golf.com was just on serious organization. And this thing needs new.
spk_0 I believe the kicker was like this, you know, at this, this horrid restaurant, the best thing you
spk_0 can do is hang a under new management sign in the window. And I think he was saying a lot of
spk_0 the same stuff. SSG police step in. PJ America used this windfall to, you know, improve the
spk_0 the lives and, you know, working standards of your of your members, etc., etc. But yeah,
spk_0 go read that piece. That's a that's a flamethrower from Amin. Jeff Schackle heard wrote,
spk_0 the game is dealt with carnival barkers and military grade all world schmendrix before.
spk_0 But Don Reef, he'd be unlike anything golf has ever seen. Just just just
spk_0 just go and learn schmendrix before, by the way. I guess he wanted the he wanted the lead job
spk_0 when spread God. I mean, let's not forget that spread the CEO who's nowhere to be found during
spk_0 all this until what Monday or Tuesday night, he hops on golf golf central or, you know,
spk_0 hops on with Rex hoggard on golf channel and very reactive. Just hey, you know what, we
spk_0 we react it. No, like what was your plan, man? You didn't have a plan. You didn't have like this,
spk_0 just in everything we've heard from vendors, fans, players, everything we've heard was like,
spk_0 these guys are they they're not prepared for this. And they're they're they're just lashing out
spk_0 at anybody who tries to tell them that. And it's just not a it's just not a serious organization.
spk_0 And they they ended up I think the guy from Ridgewood, his name's escaping me. Derek Reesner
spk_0 was supposed to get the job. And they took so long announcing or David. Yeah, they they
spk_0 they spent so long on this search that he pulled his name out. And then they were going to
spk_0 announce the guy from Keola as as the next CEO. And there was going to be a full-scale revolt.
spk_0 And they heard so much criticism from their ranks that they ended up just pivoting to Derek's
spk_0 break. It was like the GM at TPC sawgrass. And now he's running a, you know, one of the biggest
spk_0 organizations in all of golf. So then we got the Don Ray video that you know, so we had the LinkedIn
spk_0 thing and then he blocked me on Twitter X. And then we got the Don Ray video that dropped
spk_0 of him, you know, just basically saying like, I didn't hear any of this stuff. Like it wasn't
spk_0 bad out there. You would hear this at a at a kid soccer game. And he dropped a, you know,
spk_0 when we're in Rome, they do this same thing over there, which which just is like categorically not
spk_0 the case. This is from Tom Kirschah of the Times of London. Somehow there's only been
spk_0 retweeted 42 times. I think it's the story of the year. Exclusive all caps, Colin.
spk_0 Under fire, P.J. of America president, saying karaoke parentheses lose yourself by Eminem
spk_0 in the dining area of hotel for players, families and guests on Saturday night.
spk_0 Hours after Rory McElroy, his wife Erica was subjected to vile abuse at the Ryder Cup.
spk_0 Now guys, two things I think that's that standout from this one. The framing that, uh,
spk_0 you know, I don't know, like it's he should have been out with the task force
spk_0 beating up these fans that were yelling, but instead he was singing karaoke or something like that.
spk_0 That whole framing is both, uh, I think a little unfair to our guy Don,
spk_0 but also very, very, very, very funny. And two, I think just pales and compares into the humor
spk_0 of singing, uh, lose yourself by Eminem in the player's hotel. I just, I don't know if we've
spk_0 seen anything like this. I saw someone in the Instagram comments called him D-Rabbit,
spk_0 which I thought was kind of an Alzheimer. I just, I can't see foul to
spk_0 me. Performing Stan wearing the Michael Block Raw hat. Oh, God. I mean, do we think, do we think
spk_0 Don Ray's like flow is that good? Is he hidden all the, how good of a performance do you think
spk_0 this was? Can you imagine just a hotel full of just tired people buzzing at the end of a Ryder
spk_0 Cup day and hitting their asses? Yeah. Guys out there singing lose yourself. That's, uh, I think
spk_0 people talk about, you know, seeing the Beatles at Shay Stadium or in Hamburg or how cool would
spk_0 that be to go back to this moment in time? I just, I think I would, this is up there on the list of
spk_0 like, if you could just put me in this room for five minutes, I just want to be there for five minutes
spk_0 of just experience what that was like. I don't know if I can handle much more than five minutes,
spk_0 but man, that's, that's just, that's just a good, good, good stuff there. What I have other,
spk_0 like, where other people singing karaoke, you know, or was this Don truly calling for the mic?
spk_0 It's, it's crazy. I mean, it makes Ted Bishop look like a
spk_0 serious dude. Yeah. And that's the thing. Like, going back to maybe our earlier discussion,
spk_0 if the US is out there, winning Ryder cups, like all of this stuff just to get it, it gets
spk_0 tapered over. Yeah. Some of the fan behavior stuff is, is too far. But, man, when, when you're
spk_0 just getting your ass kicked, like as an American, I think what fans want to know is, are we taking
spk_0 this serious every two years? Like, what, what is, what are, what are we doing? I think that's a very
spk_0 fair question to ask. I would also say the between LPGA, RNA, USGA, PGA tour, virtually every
spk_0 organization in golf has has relatively new leadership. And most would argue very much improved
spk_0 leadership or, or TBD, but looking optimistically at, at the TBDs. And the PGA of America is just
spk_0 sticking out more and more and more like, like a sore thumb. Yeah. As everybody else gets more and
spk_0 more serious and has their shit together. And I think like one of the other things that, that
spk_0 just blows me away is like, there's so many really talented, like dynamic, exceptional
spk_0 club pros out there who are now GM's directors of golf, hotel, directors, all that stuff.
spk_0 Those guys, like, where are those guys on the national board? Where, where are the, the Bob Fords
spk_0 and company instead? Like, we have Don Ray, like manages a driving range and an executive course in
spk_0 the suburbs of feet, like in, in Tempe, Arizona, or so, like it's crazy. And it's like, not to be like,
spk_0 like, I think there's, there's, there's certainly a place for that, but it just doesn't seem like
spk_0 we're getting the best and the brightest on this level. And I don't know if the, the time
spk_0 commitment is too much if you are, you know, at one of the higher profile clubs in America. I
spk_0 don't know if, if that's the case, but, well, that's worth mentioning. It is a volunteer position,
spk_0 right? Is it like an unpaid basically like figurehead sort of sort of position,
spk_0 which is like the biggest expense account in the world too. Kind of stepping on a rake here of,
spk_0 just, you know, because that's what that's the other character of golf Twitter is just not,
spk_0 not something you want to do, especially, especially when you're not getting paid.
spk_0 There's so many people, like he wants to be out there being the mascot and then Sprig gets up
spk_0 and has this really timid statement on, on golf channel. And then Don Ray just sends out this
spk_0 email to the 30, which I don't even know how many PGA pros there are. Is it 31,000?
spk_0 One, two, wait, every time we're doing it in 30,000. We need a sense of this email. And it's
spk_0 addressed only to them. It's pretty merely mouth that doesn't really take accountability for stuff.
spk_0 Like it just, like it doesn't go to any other stakeholders, any of the fans who bought tickets,
spk_0 who got built, just all of it. The whole thing is, is incredible to me. And meanwhile,
spk_0 they're showing, they're selling stuff on the realist again too,
spk_0 you know what? I was looking at some of these, some of these auctions are coming up here pretty soon.
spk_0 Just, yeah, a lot of, a lot of game used memorabilia. The realist you might remember from the PGA
spk_0 championship selling like, God, what were some of the stuff on there? It was like, it's like,
spk_0 the, the rate. Yeah. Who's in, who's in contention at the PGA?
spk_0 Johnny Vegas, I think. Johnny Vegas, the rate that he, yeah. Yeah, a lot of that. And so there was,
spk_0 there is stuff in this auction that I'm like, oh, that's kind of, it's like the actual hole,
spk_0 like the cup from like the seventh hole or something. But it was, the auction was ending like four
spk_0 hours. It was like 68 bucks. I was like, I might actually buy that. That's kind of fun.
spk_0 But yeah, then it was like, yeah, it was next to all this like Katie Lang merch. I saw, it was like,
spk_0 there's selling used range balls for 20 bucks. I saw a rider cup package signed by Miranda Lambert,
spk_0 which again, I just had a kind of question. Nobody's really asking that. That's freedom ring.
spk_0 Right. I suppose. Yeah, guys, I just, I don't know. I don't know where we go. I think while your point
spk_0 TC about like, it's just a pro adventure. It's just everything screams amateur man. Just, just
spk_0 kind of bush league, especially as we see to your point, the RNA, the USGA, like it just,
spk_0 the PGA of America clearly sits at a not several notches down. Meanwhile, their club pros,
spk_0 like the subtext of all of this is their club pros are getting, like their quality of life sucks.
spk_0 They're, they're, they're dropping out of the industry like crazy. They have no support,
spk_0 just generally speaking from, from the national level. And I think the PGA championship is turning into
spk_0 like by far the worst major, you know, the gaps never been larger. They keep taking it to mediocre venues.
spk_0 I mean, the guy that the guy, the PGA championship is going to a run-emake next year.
spk_0 The director of golf at a run-emake, who's like a legendary guy, Jeff Kitty in the industry. He was
spk_0 national club pro of the year. Like he's, he's served with distinction. He's the one that Keegan
spk_0 be raided during the, the rules fiasco on Sunday. So when Justin Rose was getting a ruling,
spk_0 I believe, right? And it ended up taking too long and Keegan kind of kept going back, you know,
spk_0 again and again and again to say this is unfair. We need to get moving. Uh, yeah, some pretty good. I
spk_0 forget who, who reported that. Was that shoe pack as well? Maybe. I'm seeing it from Andrew
spk_0 Gamble, but yeah, it could have been shoe pack. I mean, and then the funniest part about that is,
spk_0 it was a local rule that Keegan should have been aware of to begin with was, what was causing
spk_0 this ruling to be drawn out, which I think moving towards kind of the end of our list here. It's
spk_0 like that. That was one of the things that really stuck out to me about, I know people are
spk_0 probably getting tired of all the Euro fluffing here, but the, the other thing that came out this
spk_0 week was that the Euros were basically prepared to just strike essentially. It's like, we're not
spk_0 going to play another shot until we can guarantee that like the verbal abuse is going to stop.
spk_0 And there was a lot of reporting out there this week about how Luke Donald, the whole team,
spk_0 essentially like they had already talked about it. They had already established almost like a red line
spk_0 of if it hits this point, like we're going to stop is everybody cool with that. Let's talk about it
spk_0 now. What is our game plan? If that happens. And I don't know. Again, it's just another indicator of,
spk_0 yeah, there's guys kind of thought through all the elements of what was going to happen
spk_0 that week. And it just makes it a little easier to go show up and do your job when,
spk_0 when you feel like you're prepared in that way, it seems like. But also Keegan won the BMW
spk_0 championship at Aronement. It's just berating the club pro from that place.
spk_0 It's just a, yeah, it's a weird one. I think that the club pro is hot now. The club pro's
spk_0 in space is going to be I think something to, something to watch the next couple, a couple of
spk_0 years to see if there's any more fallout of this. If there's any other, other more like macro
spk_0 trends on how that part of the industry is moving because I think you're spot on, Tron. That's like a
spk_0 really, really, really is in a lot of ways. In the right, like in the right spots still remains
spk_0 a massive pillar of the game, but is that risk of being just put through the meat grinder and
spk_0 churning out people out of the industry rather than creating like a, you know, kind of sustainable
spk_0 life and a, you know, all of these kind of front door to golf type of people that really should
spk_0 continue to prop it up those same way that they did 30 years ago. You know, and I think,
spk_0 I think, I thought Cody had a great point. I think it was just on Slack. I don't think he
spk_0 said it on the podcast, but some of the reinstated amateur stuff, he's like, man, a lot, like back
spk_0 in the day, a lot of those people just, you know, you wouldn't have to get your amateur status back,
spk_0 like you just become a club pro and you get into the game that way and you become a teacher.
spk_0 Oh, and you know, you play in section events and you kind of can still scratch that itch and
spk_0 stay in the industry and it's just not an attractive life for a lot of people to get into. So it's,
spk_0 I don't know, I'm sure I'm talking about school and I'm sure we'll get a lot of feedback to that
spk_0 effect. But T.C., how's your cool organizing going? Then she put out a call for her. It's good. I
spk_0 think it's good to have 50 emails. So a bunch of, a bunch of DMs. Yeah. And people just, they,
spk_0 they see the Derek Rees and the, the, or they be a, uh, Von Rees and the Susie Walees just,
spk_0 you know, basically getting high on the hog and, and I think advancing their own personal interests
spk_0 over those of, of the PGA of America. It's crazy to me. So, uh, I think plenty more to come on this.
spk_0 I think there's, I think people, I think people are pissed and rightfully so and, and it should,
spk_0 it should lead to some sort of action. Yeah. Well, close in the book on, uh, on Ryder Cup stuff.
spk_0 Should we move to, uh, to San Valley T.C.? Please. I want to hear about, I mean, you guys have been
spk_0 playing, Randy, you're playing more golf in September and October than, I don't know,
spk_0 the rest of the year combined. I know. It's, it's truly, it's been too much T.C. honestly.
spk_0 But I did, I, so somewhat the genesis for this at the beginning of September, right after
spk_0 Labor Day, uh, was part of a, just a, a group trip to San Valley, not a work trip and was my first
spk_0 time ever being there. So, Dij, I know, I know you've been up there. So yeah, you, you or T.C.
spk_0 Where do you guys want to start? Uh, I mean, I guess super basic, you know, very, very top level,
spk_0 if you're not familiar with what we're talking about, it's, it's kind of the, the band and dunes of
spk_0 Wisconsin dream golf resort up there in kind of the north central section of the state of Wisconsin.
spk_0 Four golf courses open now plus the, uh, the short course sandbox, the par three course,
spk_0 yet San Valley, mammoth dunes, delito, uh, and sedge valley with the 12 haul golf course,
spk_0 the commons set to come online next year. I already opened for a little bit of preview play. I
spk_0 got to, I got to go out to the kind of half construction site, half grass golf holes, a couple
spk_0 weeks ago and played about eight of the 12. Uh, so we can talk about that on the back end maybe,
spk_0 but rainy, I guess maybe start with what did you, what was your itinerary? Did you play them all?
spk_0 Did you, did you touch them all while you're there? We did. Yeah, I, we played everything once. So
spk_0 I flew into Madison, which T.C. Madison, great little airport. It, it was, it was wonderful. And then
spk_0 we ran in a car and drove, honestly, a pretty easy drive. Uh, maybe a little over an hour,
spk_0 hour and a half, somewhere in that 60 to 90 minute range, but you know, scenic, not, not a stressful
spk_0 drive. And so on our arrival day, we actually got in like day zero, we didn't play any golf. We,
spk_0 we just got there that evening. Had enough time. We went up to Craig's porch, which is the, uh,
spk_0 one of the little food stands there overlooking. It's really where the, uh, sand valley, the golf course
spk_0 goes, goes out of and then near the 18th green there. And they serve one dollar tacos, the,
spk_0 the beers are three bucks. Like literally, that's one thing you just need to understand about sand
spk_0 valley. The food and bev prices once you're on site. And truly, they could gouge you, right? You're
spk_0 in the middle of nowhere. The, the, the food and bev prices could be, I don't know,
spk_0 reacts of what they are. I think, and people will be like, yeah, that's, that seems like what it
spk_0 is now. So you just feel great that you're not getting taken advantage of from, you know, from the
spk_0 moment you're on property. We had a beer, we had a taco, we enjoyed a sunset. And then the next day,
spk_0 we played, we started with, um, the Lido. So we dove in, we went over and played the Lido. Yeah.
spk_0 Yeah. And so our, our day one was the Lido. And then the sandbox, our day two was mammoth in the
spk_0 morning, sand valley in the afternoon. And then our day three, which was also our departure day,
spk_0 we played Sedge Valley. And then everybody took off for the airport and, and got home that evening.
spk_0 So I mean, what is that? One, three nights, four days, three nights, you play every course like,
spk_0 you could certainly add another day and, and double up. But I, I thought it was a perfect
spk_0 itinerary. So I would encourage folks, you know, give yourself enough time to, to, to do and,
spk_0 and see everything there at least once. Where'd you stay? The first night we stayed in like the
spk_0 lodge right there where you check in and then starting the second night. So the second and third night,
spk_0 we had, there were eight of us and we had a cabin. And so the cabins, there's kind of like a main
spk_0 central room. And then off of that are these little like essentially, they're almost like hotel
spk_0 rooms, but they're standalone hotel rooms that have double beds. So we had, you know, two on one side,
spk_0 two on the other side, each one sleeps two guys. And then you have a main like TV room.
spk_0 And, you know, there's a kitchen in there, a, a real hangout area. Was it one of the ones with the
spk_0 fireplace in the middle and then out back? Like I, those, those cabins, I'm like, I want to, I want to
spk_0 knock my house down and just build this exactly. Yeah. I know. They're so well done. Great architecture.
spk_0 Everything's just the aesthetic right around the whole property kind of speaks to each other.
spk_0 It's, it's really good. What, what do you think of Lido? So I told, I, I, I shot out Brendan Quinn.
spk_0 I've read his piece in the athletic about just the history of the Lido. I love, unequivocally,
spk_0 I love that the Lido exists. I love the history of it. I love that there's, as Brendan said,
spk_0 there's like this ghost ship in North Central Wisconsin of this amazing golf course that used to sit
spk_0 on Long Island. I, I just, I really, really, really dig that. It's hard. It's not an easy course,
spk_0 right? It's, and it's a course where you go a little off property from the lodge at San Valley.
spk_0 It's a, it's a short show, right? It's, it's not very far at all, but, but you kind of go away from
spk_0 the main lodge. It's dry over there. So there is no alcohol allowed on the premises. There's
spk_0 no alcohol served on the golf course. I think that's a unique wrinkle. Especially when I,
spk_0 it likes to get shit faced while I play. I don't, I don't mind that at all. It's walking and you take
spk_0 a caddy and you're glad to have a caddy because you need some lines off of most of those teas. A lot
spk_0 of template holes, right? It's, it's a CB McDonald. It's, you know, it's every type of template that
spk_0 that he and Seth Rainer have kind of now are famous for. Yeah, just tough greens. It's this big
spk_0 rectangular piece of property where you kind of play around the outside on the front line. And then
spk_0 the in the back nine, you're kind of like wrapping inside the property. But you can kind of see
spk_0 most of the course. You can see most of the people on the course, no matter where you are.
spk_0 It's a, Dej, I know you've played it like it's funny because I think I left San Valley thinking
spk_0 like, man, if we had one more round, I think the Lido would be like fourth on my list out of the four
spk_0 courses. But at the same time, I, I again want to unequivocally say it's good. And I'm so glad it
spk_0 exists. Yeah, I played it for the first time with Tron actually was that last year or two years
spk_0 ago? I can't remember. I don't know who could say. But yeah, we put kind of just drove up and back
spk_0 for the day and, and played it. And that was last year because it was after the the NLU club championship.
spk_0 It was actually right, right after we did our trade. That's right. The fantasy, fantasy-based
spk_0 uh, I, Randy, I think I felt similarly after the first go around and have been lucky to play it.
spk_0 I think two or three times since. And each time I've played it since, like I, I go back up.
spk_0 The first time I played it, I think I was like, yeah, this is feel super arbitrary. And there's just
spk_0 kind of stuff everywhere. And I, I don't know if I even if I knew that that stuff was there,
spk_0 I don't know if I'm good enough to avoid it. It still feels very kind of hit and hope and just kind of,
spk_0 you know, come what may, I guess. And hopefully you don't get some bad breaks and, you know,
spk_0 you can hit the big greens and maybe you make some putts. The second time around, I was like, oh,
spk_0 no, wait, actually hold on. This is this is way more fun than I think I was realizing.
spk_0 The third time around, I was like, this might be among the best, like most favorite courses I've
spk_0 ever played. And so, uh, it is a grower, I think, in a, in a huge, huge way, which I think is a
spk_0 massive compliment. I always find it to be a little tricky. Uh, we've said this about Bannon Doons
spk_0 before too, but it's, it's weird to have a golf course like that at a resort like that, which is kind
spk_0 of a, you know, there's local people that I know here who drive up and drive back and they can maybe
spk_0 do a trip a year or once every two years or whatever. But for a lot of people, I mean, it's, it's
spk_0 an expensive trip. It's hard to get to. It's, you might, you very well might only go there once in
spk_0 your life, if at all. And so it's a little strange to have a, you know, a bucket list golf course
spk_0 be like, oh, yeah, you just got to play it 10 times and then you'll, and then you'll get it,
spk_0 you know, but at the same time, it's like, well, man, that like really makes me want to go back and
spk_0 play it again. It kind of makes it a bucket list course to totally. Yeah. And I think the other
spk_0 cool thing about San Valley is it, it kind of speaks to, I think what they have going on at San
spk_0 Valley just writ large, which is, man, they've got enough critical mass there now that if the
spk_0 Lido is not your thing, great. We've got three and a half soon to be four other golf courses that
spk_0 are totally different and probably a little bit more what you're looking for, you know, and so
spk_0 I don't know if that takes you to like, or TC anything else kind of from playing it that sticks
spk_0 out to you. No, I think we had a pretty benign evening out there like it, it rained earlier in
spk_0 the day and so it was a little softer, but yeah, definitely felt like holy shit, there's,
spk_0 there's just stuff everywhere. But in, in, Grady, I totally get what you're saying about it, not being
spk_0 all that lovable. I think it like the scale is so big and you just feel like you're in this massive
spk_0 massive clearing on it's tough to get your bearings and all of that. But also like it felt like
spk_0 we're of an exercise of the mind or of discipline and it's at times it felt a little bit like a rich
spk_0 guy art project of like, of like, yeah, this thing exists, you know, it's really cool that it exists,
spk_0 I'm happy that it exists. I don't like, maybe like, I didn't really didn't want to dig too too deep
spk_0 into the why other than like we can, but it's it's also like one of the most impressive engineering
spk_0 architectural feats out there too, to Peter Flory and you know, everybody who who put in all the work
spk_0 to kind of uncover the plans and then make them really reality. But like, I get your point though of
spk_0 like I've been to San Valley one other time and I had a blast playing those other golf courses.
spk_0 That's how it's gonna feel like I had a blast like it doesn't feel like a buddy's trip golf course.
spk_0 It feels like hey, I want to go grind out here for three days kind of that. And that's the thing
spk_0 like playing the leado with the win and the variability. You don't know if your ball is going to end
spk_0 up in that bunker you didn't see or if you're going to catch a good lie and kind of the longer grass
spk_0 if you miss a fairway, like you just feel on edge for most of the round around the leado. And
spk_0 dig to your point, I can certainly see where if you were playing that course weekly, you know,
spk_0 once a week let's say or you know, as you get more reps, you certainly would get a bit more
spk_0 comfortable that totally makes sense. Well, I would never get bored out there. And I've
spk_0 ever between men and pins and tea hall. It's there's like infinite options. And I think that's
spk_0 part of it. I think that speaks to the kind of the membership model of it too. Not that this is
spk_0 going to make anybody who didn't love it feel any more warm and fuzzy, but it is a little bit more
spk_0 of a members club. Whereas San Valley, like the rest of the golf courses at San Valley are part of
spk_0 the resort is totally open to the public. Come book your tea time. The leado has a little more
spk_0 restriction on it. There's members of the leado. There's people who bought houses, you know,
spk_0 near the golf course who spend their whole summers up there. Public play is not every day. So it's
spk_0 a little harder to get on. So it's just a little different, different setup. And I think, you know,
spk_0 I understand why they did it that way. Yeah. I think on the complete flip side,
spk_0 mammoth dunes. I don't know if you want to talk about that next, but that is, you know, a much,
spk_0 it sounds pejorative to say like a much easier. But it's just too easy. It's a very,
spk_0 it's designed to be as much fun as I think you can have. Yeah, that's exactly right. And it is,
spk_0 it's the type of course where if you're hitting the ball well and you're in control of your
spk_0 distances and where the ball is going, you are going to have a lot of birdie putts. And that's
spk_0 by design, right? All the slopes around the greens, they all kind of bring the ball back towards
spk_0 the green surface, towards flags instead of repelling away. And it's a David McLeod kid. It's got,
spk_0 it feels big, right? It's got some some scale to it. It's still walkable. We walked it.
spk_0 I in my personal guy, I feel like I maybe said this in my personal golf, but the like the best
spk_0 way I could kind of place mammoth would be, you know, if you've ever played sports like
spk_0 whatever, varsity sports, right? And you're going up against the JV or the scout team sometimes.
spk_0 And their job is to give you the look of what your opponent's going to give you. But they're,
spk_0 they're playing a little bit of dummy defense, right? They're, they're not as as active
spk_0 reaching for the ball. I'm using basketball terms here.
spk_0 Framie's going to be not out my passing lanes necessarily. They're not playing the play if you will.
spk_0 Like that's how I felt going around mammoth dunes was like, oh, yeah, you're kind of giving me the
spk_0 stock look here. And I know if I kind of hit this well, I'm going to get some help from that slip.
spk_0 It just is very comfortable. And I think, deep to your point, I think it complements the
spk_0 Lido spectacularly in that, you know, you could go out to the Lido and get your ass kicked.
spk_0 Well, you can go out to mammoth and feel really, really good about your game, which is is a great
spk_0 kind of ends on ends of the spectrum for one single golfer's or I've also seen you get mad that
spk_0 you know, little little freshman kids, DNM up to a hard taking a challenge.
spk_0 That's right. Like we're not doing that here today. The games Friday night, it's not Thursday
spk_0 afternoon. Get out of my space. I've also seen a lot of people kind of glitch out when you get,
spk_0 it gets that reputation now where enough people are just like, oh, dude, it's you're going to shoot
spk_0 the lowest route of your life when you go out there. People just like there in gamble saying
spk_0 but I've seen people like some people very well do and some people just grip the bat too tight
spk_0 and get out there and just like, you know, just shoot a million that it just makes it even worse
spk_0 because you know you're supposed to score well. It's just like, it's a very funny, I don't know,
spk_0 I love I love mammoth games. It's very fun. I feel like it's playing shoots and ladders.
spk_0 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Where you kind of like unlock this and yeah, exactly.
spk_0 I've only played it once. We did a video on it and me and Ben and Cody and Sally.
spk_0 And I think between the four of us who made like 26 birdies and three Eagles.
spk_0 But like we had this epic match and like we couldn't wait to smile off our face at the end and
spk_0 we still had to hit the shots and it was definitely more like, hey, let's play it match between
spk_0 the two of us and and you know, it was like you truly had it was like playing offense. It was like
spk_0 it was like playing air raid big 12, you know, mid 2000s football. You know, like that's like
spk_0 leech is is hanging 65 on them every every Saturday. Like us, us mid cap high cap golfers like we
spk_0 don't get that feeling of like going after it very often and and mammoth can give you that and
spk_0 that's yeah, it's fun. It's intoxicating, honestly. Well, we're going kind of a weird order here,
spk_0 but let's go to San Valley next the first the first golf course built at the resort. Corn
spk_0 Crenshaw golf course kind of a hybrid of the two things that I think we're we're talking about
spk_0 maybe, but what was your your impression of San Valley? I think San Valley is just so handsome.
spk_0 I think it's a great representation of core and Crenshaw and and what they do. I this was the
spk_0 golf course. I said, Lido, you know, if I had one more round on my trip, the Lido probably would
spk_0 have been fourth in my wish list. San Valley would have been first like it it is to me the perfect
spk_0 mix of it's going to require some really good shots. You're going to have to think about, you know,
spk_0 do I want to go after that flag? Where can I miss this without being like overly penalizing or
spk_0 overly severe? I just, you know, it's it's a lovely walk, the cut of the greens, the bunkering,
spk_0 like it's just really good. I came away very, very enamored, I guess, with San Valley the golf course.
spk_0 What's that short par four? I think it's on the front kind of up into that little corner.
spk_0 Nine. Right. That's such a nine. Yeah, it's funny because like one's kind of a short four also.
spk_0 Yeah, it's like you've got a crazy green. But nine, I just think about that whole pretty often.
spk_0 I'm like, that's a really such a good green striking stunning hole.
spk_0 And you have the short par three right after it. It's just a yeah, it's just I'm with you,
spk_0 Randy. It's just kind of the way it's supposed to look. You know, it's very challenging. You know,
spk_0 if you if you are not playing well, there's plenty of spots to trip yourself up. But if you can,
spk_0 if you've got any control of your golf ball, it's going to be just the most peaceful kind of
spk_0 delightful day you can have. So it's I love it. Yeah, it's um and the wind can blow out there.
spk_0 You know, I certainly I think I shot 84 maybe, which I was pleased with. I thought I battled.
spk_0 I don't know. I come back to like it just seems like fully realized as a golf course. And I really
spk_0 I dug it. There's some teeth there too. Like there's some greens that are a little bit pushed up
spk_0 where you it really makes distance control a thing like you got to fly it up there. You got to
spk_0 hit the proper shot. Uh, Randy question for you. Are you moonman or spotted cow?
spk_0 Hmm spotted cow. I'm a spotted cow guy. Yeah. Had had plenty of those T.C. Love and again,
spk_0 it feels like they're giving them away. Like it's incredible. Where are you buying a three dollar
spk_0 beer these days? Anywhere, you know, it's it's unbelievable. Just like make it expensive for me to
spk_0 get in the door. That's totally fine. And then once I'm there, put me at ease. Yes. Yeah.
spk_0 There's nothing worse than feeling like you're you're just getting kind of jobbed the whole time.
spk_0 That was a little bit I haven't been a stream song in a very, very long time, but that was
spk_0 always I remember my my impression there was just like you can't go anywhere else for food.
spk_0 You're stuck here. Would you like a $60 steak? I was kind of want like a turkey sandwich.
spk_0 You're like, I want a buffalo chicken wrap. You know what you just stop sticking your hand in my
spk_0 pocket. Yeah. I'm sure that's changed a little bit now. Actually, I would be really curious.
spk_0 You know, like I need to go back to stream song because campers taking it over from a management
spk_0 perspective and I'm curious to see if that's if that ethos has changed. Yeah. I think sorry.
spk_0 I'm just thinking like band and trails. I would guess I haven't played all the court
spk_0 credentials, but I'm guessing a lot of people know band and trails. I think sand valley is
spk_0 pretty close to that for me. I don't think it quite has that like tunnel atrees. It doesn't quite
spk_0 hit on every whole just like the surrounding beauty of trails, but again, I think sand valley is
spk_0 is pretty magnificent. One of the things that I felt when I left sand valley was man, I didn't
spk_0 really miss the ocean because it helped me focus more on the golf. That makes sense.
spk_0 It does make sense. I know what you mean. Yeah. It's just a different experience. I mean,
spk_0 the golf plays, you know, not exactly the same as being out in bandin, but it plays firm and fast
spk_0 and you can use the ground and you do get you could lock in and hit all those similar shots,
spk_0 but yeah, it's less kind of pulling your phone out and let's take a photo of this and let's
spk_0 got to see this over here, which you know, I mean, it's hard to beat being on the ocean certainly,
spk_0 but the commute from yeah, from it's nice if you're anywhere close, you know, in the Midwest or
spk_0 can get to Madison easily or whatever. It's like it's a lot of the experience. You're not missing out
spk_0 on the whole thing just because the ocean's not there. Yeah, it's like it's not censoring overload.
spk_0 And I think like I've only been twice, but I think the agronomy has been better both times.
spk_0 I've been to San Valley versus band. It's really sure makes a lot of sense not being next to
spk_0 the ocean and Oregon's got some pretty crazy weather up there. Yeah. Well, the last course,
spk_0 the most recent one that opened Sedge Valley, Tom Doke, par 68, I think. I am fascinated
spk_0 here what you thought of Sedge. It's a little it's weird. It's a little shorter from like a
spk_0 scorecard perspective just because it's a par 68. So I feel like it lulls you into a little false
spk_0 sense of security that it's going to be some little miniature thing. That's not the case.
spk_0 But at the same time, there's a lot of half-pars. It's designed to be, I think Doke keeps pointing
spk_0 back to like some of the Heathland golf courses. It's supposed to be much, much more like what you'd see,
spk_0 in the kind of just outside London suburbs. I love this golf course. I loved it. The first time
spk_0 I played it, I was a million thumbs up since the couple of times I've been lucky enough to see it.
spk_0 So yeah, Randy, what were your thoughts on Sedge? I'm like, you man. I freaking loved it. This was
spk_0 the course that you want to talk about like what would be your everyday course? It's Sedge Valley.
spk_0 The walk is just great. Like you said, half-par holes out the wazoo. So
spk_0 it could be a par five. Well, there's one par five on the scorecard. It kind of feels like a
spk_0 four and a half. There are some fours that feel like three and a half. And quite honestly,
spk_0 there are a couple of fours that feel like four and a half. And I think it just has charm.
spk_0 It doesn't feel, and this is I think one of saying Valley's best attributes is these four golf courses
spk_0 are really pretty distinct from one another. And I think to my experience, they're like the most
spk_0 distinct collection of courses at the same resort. And I think that's really cool. And I think
spk_0 Sedge Valley is really distinct in that. Dope is like you said, going after that like England,
spk_0 Heathland feel. It just yeah, you're hitting every club in the bag. I mean, I'm looking at the
spk_0 scorecard from the back back T's. It's a little over 5,800 yards. Par 68, right? It's par 33 on
spk_0 the front, 35 coming in. But it's not like an executive course where you're just hitting driver
spk_0 wedge over and over again. You really have to think the greens are thoughtful. You know, it's
spk_0 not just hit it to the center and you're going to have a pretty straightforward birdie look. You
spk_0 got to really place the golf ball. It's great. Yeah, the highest compliment honestly would be,
spk_0 man, this would be the course. If it were down the street for me, I would play a ton of golf. I
spk_0 the thing that I'm always struck by outside of a couple of was at number three, I think is the
spk_0 the long part four with kind of the punch bullish type of green back T's. Yeah, that is like,
spk_0 you get out and you play one and two and they're kind of out and back. And they're a little driver
spk_0 wedge. And you're like, okay, this is, you know, what are you in for here? And then you play three
spk_0 in a place. Is this the one that you sent a picture of with no that one is stick. That's the
spk_0 part three on the back. But you play the third hole and all of a sudden you're standing in the
spk_0 fairway and it's like, oh, I got a, I got a six iron into this green. Whoa, okay. I got to,
spk_0 I got to buckle up outside of a couple of those long part fours. I mean, I'm convinced that it's
spk_0 the type of place that you would play better if you just could have enough discipline to hit a six
spk_0 iron off of every T all of those. But of course, you don't because it's no fun and you want it,
spk_0 like it just gives you all the rope to hang yourself and some of those and it's almost like the
spk_0 worst thing you can do. I remember the first time I played it. I'm going to get some of the whole
spk_0 numbers wrong. But you get out to that point where you have the downhill part three, which I think
spk_0 is number five. And then I think you have the short par four, which is number six, I think, or
spk_0 that six seven or whatever those numbers. But the first like very short par four, it only played
spk_0 two, 60 or something. That's number six. Yeah. I would just sand what's between the two par three.
spk_0 Yes. Yeah. I remember that one shot I hit like just kind of like a choked up driver that just
spk_0 flew to the right spot, ran up on the green. I had like a 15 footer for eagle and two putted for
spk_0 birdie. And I remember that almost like ruining my day because then it was like, okay, every time I
spk_0 got to another one of those half par holes, I was like, yeah, I'm just going to ship it here too. And I
spk_0 just made double after double after double. And it's just it's really fun because you just look
spk_0 back at it. You're like, God, I just didn't need to do that. But it's it's a try. I'd be fascinated
spk_0 with like, how well you drive the ball. I think you would, I think you'd put up a very good number
spk_0 there. But it sounds like a video. Yeah. Yeah. We need to we need to get out. It's a course that,
spk_0 you know, I don't do this often. But it is a course like that screaming for that Sunday
spk_0 dog set. Yeah. Right. Where you take half your irons out, you know, you take one of your wedges
spk_0 out, like just just take seven clubs out there, a little carry bag like that's that's the type of
spk_0 it. It is set up to provide really. Yeah. I'd be fascinating. Like play, play two balls, play one
spk_0 smart. Yeah. Fun. Totally. See how the two scores stack up. Adam. Yeah. Yeah. It's great, man. They've
spk_0 got an awesome thing going there. I just, uh, the pro Ryan is a, is a buddy of mine and a great guy
spk_0 and listen to the podcast chat to Ryan if he's listening. But he you've got Ryan. Very nice.
spk_0 Great guy. Yes. But yeah, talking to him a little bit, it's like a lot of these trips, you know,
spk_0 you have your set itineraries and there's a lot of people who are like, oh, we're playing here
spk_0 in the afternoon, we're playing there blah, blah, blah, and a lot of people that end up with one
spk_0 extra round, you know, like, oh, we'll play mammoth twice or we'll play whatever twice. And
spk_0 he's like, there, there have been so many people in these first couple of years that have played
spk_0 sedge once and like come back into the shop and be like, hey, can we change the itinerary around
spk_0 a little bit so we can go play that again? And it's just, I don't know if the expectation, like,
spk_0 par 68 maybe it just sneaks up on people. Uh, why think if you just look at the scorecard,
spk_0 you're like, I should because after 58, there are a few holes where the back T and the,
spk_0 and the one up T are like there's a very big gap between them. So it goes from like 5800,
spk_0 which is the back T and then the middle T is like 4700 and you can play a combo of those two at like
spk_0 52. But I truly think it's a lot of people probably just look at the scorecard and think like,
spk_0 guys, it's like a pitch and putt is just like, yeah, um, but it's, yeah, it's really good. Uh,
spk_0 Randy, how do you square that with your your real golf? Like, how do you feel about the sandbox?
spk_0 Uh, well, this is where I get to tell everybody how hard it is.
spk_0 The same exercise. We didn't play our own ball around the sandbox. We did like, you know,
spk_0 the eight man skins game, whatever. Your skin wasn't been crawling. Randy's got no shoes on.
spk_0 He's just drinking beers all the time out there. But T.C. Here's here's what I'll tell you.
spk_0 Here's how I square it is. Sedge Valley. They have a slope and a rating from every T box
spk_0 possibility on the scorecard. And so you know, it honestly, it was like going to play calling
spk_0 where it's like, I don't mind if the course is shorter. I just want to be able to play real golf
spk_0 and post the score. And that's check and check it. Sedge, like, you know, I'm going to hit
spk_0 cups and I'm going to post my score. Yeah. I got to be able to close your score. That's your,
spk_0 that's your ultimate. That's my North Star. Yeah. And I unpacked a little that with DJ and Milwaukee.
spk_0 I like it. I like what you're saying on the personal golf spotlight episode two about the, uh,
spk_0 the USGA if you're listening, you got to, you got to add a little journal section to the, uh,
spk_0 to the gin app. I think that's a really good idea because like, who do I play with? Could I
spk_0 upload like a picture to two? Yeah, I think that's a great, just a great call. And I don't know if
spk_0 we were going to get there or not, but I just wanted to shout out same Valley. I did not do the,
spk_0 they, they are like a surprising hub of racket sports, uh, a little bit. And I just wanted to call
spk_0 that out because if I do go back to San Valley, they have eight outdoor grass tennis courts. I
spk_0 TC, I don't know if you've ever played on grass tennis courts. I have not. I would love to go
spk_0 back and do that. But what I really think is cool. And it's right by such, uh, the said clubhouse
spk_0 is their like tennis facility, their locker room. Inside there, they have a court tennis facility.
spk_0 And I would encourage people to like Google court tennis. It is like, I'm still learning about it,
spk_0 but it is the oldest racket sport. It goes back like 900 years. It's like indoor. It's not,
spk_0 it doesn't look like tennis at all, except there's a ball, a racket, and a net. It's not like
spk_0 racket ball. It's really strange, but they have this court tennis facility, which I think is like
spk_0 one of the few in the country outside of New York or the Northeast. And I really, really want to do
spk_0 that. So if we're talking video, we got to include some tennis, uh, if we go back to San Valley.
spk_0 Did you, uh, Randy, I guess, did you get to talk the ultimate pro at all that was in there?
spk_0 I did. I popped my head in because they sell their own merch to you. It's this elephant that's
spk_0 like in a tennis outfit with a little racket. Uh, so I, I bought a couple things from the,
spk_0 from the tennis shop. And I was just chatting with them. And he says it's great. He says the,
spk_0 the tennis activity is, is really has steadily grown each year since they've opened. He was kind
spk_0 of explaining a little bit of the court tennis stuff to me. Nice kid. I, yeah, I, I, I really,
spk_0 really want to go back and try that. I'm assuming since it's a proper racket sports facility that
spk_0 they don't have pickle ball. They do not have pickle ball TC. That's exactly right. I saw zero
spk_0 pickle ball courts. Thank God. I've always wanted to go up for their, their hockey thing too. I mean,
spk_0 I'd give my doors blown off, but I love, I love playing, playing pond hockey, just any hockey.
spk_0 Yeah. I think it would be a, I've talked to Justin about that. I think it'd be a great winter.
spk_0 You know, again, if, if you're, yeah, if you're in the state and you can drive there, I know
spk_0 probably someone flying from somewhere to go in the ice cold winter with no mountains is maybe not
spk_0 their thing. But yeah, get down and, you know, cross-culture skiing or ice skating or doing all that
spk_0 and then just going back and saying in a cool cabin and having a great dinner and yeah, they have
spk_0 good chefs that come in and worst things you can do at the time than that. That's for sure. Exactly.
spk_0 Randy, what's your, what's your 10 round split? Between all four of them. Yeah. Yeah.
spk_0 Between all four of them. I think right now and again, caveats, I've been there once. I've
spk_0 had three, three, two, two. I think I would go three sand valley, three-sedge, two mammoth, two
spk_0 lido. But it's well balanced as you can get. Yeah. Yeah. That is good.
spk_0 Each one's yours. Yeah, I'm trying to think. I think I would go, man, it's hard not to
spk_0 get overzealous on the sedge thing, but I do really like it. I might go, I'd probably go three,
spk_0 three, two, two as well, but it would be three sedge, three lido and then two of the two of each
spk_0 of the original ones, sand valley and mammoth. Sedges such a good arrival and departure day, of course.
spk_0 If you're getting in and you have time for one or if you're like we did, we had a morning round
spk_0 and then we were getting to the airport to fly out that afternoon. Sedges, wonderful for that.
spk_0 I think that last thing on sand valley we can move on, but I think that speaks to what the
spk_0 commons is going to be as well, which is another course they're opening next year. Like I mentioned,
spk_0 Jim Craig, golf course, 12 holes. I think that I don't know why I had this in my head,
spk_0 but I had it in my head that like, I have 12 holes. It's called the commons. This is going to be
spk_0 some like kids golf course or something, which would be fine. I just pictured it being like
spk_0 the cradle or something like that, just kind of a run around and play to whatever hole or whatever
spk_0 it is not that at all. It is 12 like real golf, real golf holes. They have kind of this like
spk_0 man-made lake that the last three holes kind of weave through and around and it is to like,
spk_0 it's going to be some of the most provocative holes on the entire resort. It's awesome. It's turned
spk_0 up to a loud volume, especially there's a redan. I think I played them a lot order, but I think
spk_0 it's going to be the 11th hole. It's going to be this almost like kind of, is that where the water
spk_0 is like really omnellian? Yeah, exactly. If you, you know, a redan kind of kicks from right to
spk_0 high right to low left and at this one, it kind of just like rides the, like the quote-unquote coast
spk_0 of this pond lake thing. And so it's like if you miss the green left, like I think your balls are
spk_0 just going to roll right into like they, their bunker basically just runs right into the water. So
spk_0 it's it's kind of almost, I don't know, it's like Bay Hill ones. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, 17 of
spk_0 it's it's going to be it's going to be really, really cool and just some crazy greens,
spk_0 really cool part threes. Yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm not that massive sand. Yeah, like formation,
spk_0 mountain, yeah, just a big five and just a big ass pile of sand that I don't know if that's
spk_0 what they dug the lake dug out of the lake, I would imagine. But yeah, that all kind of frames,
spk_0 like the first hole, there's just a big, I don't know how else to describe it if anybody has been
spk_0 there in that. So you can see it. Other courses all over the property. Yeah, yeah. So I don't
spk_0 know if they're going to turn that into something. If you'd have like a, a tow rope that you could
spk_0 kind of sled or steer, tube down or something, but it's, yeah, just a, it's just a big ass pile of
spk_0 sand. I don't know what they're going to do with it. Oh, yes. I'm going to say any any, any
spk_0 senses stick out of the five senses when you're out there. The food's good, man. The food really
spk_0 is good. They over by the sandbox, they have a little barbecue kind of truck. I did not,
spk_0 I did not eat that, but it certainly smelled good. It looks good. Yeah. And the other one I did not
spk_0 eat in. There's a, uh, by sege in the tennis facility. There's a place called the gallery that
spk_0 I think is a little like nicer dining option. Uh, we did not eat there. So what, what I did eat,
spk_0 mammoth bar, I think it's called just kind of the main bar in the, in the main lodge. Great.
spk_0 Everything you need. Nothing you don't cold beer, uh, good, good kind of bar food. But then
spk_0 aldo's I really enjoyed. I went there for breakfast each morning and then we had one nice meal
spk_0 at aldo's. I had a great, uh, what did I have? Uh, a nice chicken. Um, it, yeah, it really,
spk_0 really good. And comfortable beds. I mean, honestly, and this is what I tell people about like,
spk_0 I mean, shout out like dream golf. Like they just get the details, right, man? You, they,
spk_0 it, it, it's good. You can count on it. The, the service, the attention, the details, like it's,
spk_0 it's, it's quite good. Maybe, uh, Mike and Chris Kaiser should be, uh, rider cup captains.
spk_0 I, you know, kind of, yeah, point of the proceedings, we're in. I'd kind of listen to that conversation.
spk_0 There would be a lot worse choices. Yeah. Well, listen, while we're on the, uh, on the topic of
spk_0 Wisconsin golf, I feel like we had a throw in rain. We got to play a lasagna last week for the
spk_0 first time as well. We have our, our kind of annual, uh, buddies trip, which we did in the greater
spk_0 Milwaukee area, uh, this past week, but got to go up and see lasagna, which is a place. I don't
spk_0 think we've really talked about on the podcast very much. Just play both courses, just the links,
spk_0 just up and up and back. Yeah. I still never played the, the Wollent course. Unfortunately, I know it's,
spk_0 it sounds like there's quite a disparity between the two. I know the links gets all the,
spk_0 all the claims for a reason, but the Wollent looks cool. It's, it looks tight. It looks very, uh,
spk_0 antithetical to, uh, the links, but yeah, probably the reason I like the links is you can kind of hit it
spk_0 wherever off the tee. Uh, so I like that. But any lasagna thoughts from you, big guy?
spk_0 Yeah, well worth the hour and 45 minute drive from Milwaukee. Just cool holes, man. I,
spk_0 I feel so bad. I'm like, I got, how can I describe this in detail? It's such a fun place. And
spk_0 DJ, this is, I'm going to give you full credit, but it feels like the type of place that's a melting
spk_0 pot between people that are like super into golf architecture and like really get off on, oh my
spk_0 god, man, they pushed up this green with a steam shovel and the whatever, 1920s. And then like a lot
spk_0 of local people that might be out there and like, untucked shirt and, you know, just don't even
spk_0 quite realize what this golf course is. It's just the one that's near them. And I dig that by
spk_0 it greatly. Uh, some blind shots, especially to start, I, I would say lasagna is, and it's a
spk_0 low key big walk, especially getting out there on the back nine, you're kind of trudging uphill,
spk_0 a few different times. Just big scale. But yeah, like really fun, interesting, unique, quirky
spk_0 golf holes that will test you. Um, the conditioning was really good. I don't know.
spk_0 Dee, tell me here, like, how else do you just say like, yeah, you, you should go. If you have a
spk_0 chance, if you're in the area, like definitely, I think it's worth it. I think the last couple
spk_0 times I've been there, it's been like late summer or this type of the fall where it's like,
spk_0 man, it hasn't rained in a couple of weeks. And the ball just bounces out there. I mean,
spk_0 some of the t-shirts you can just see them bouncing 20 feet in the air. And it's just like that,
spk_0 that to me is kind of the, why do you make the hour 45 minute drive? It's like, well, yeah,
spk_0 the greens are cool. And it's a great value and all that. But it's like, man, that, you don't just
spk_0 end. So I just, I love seeing that as much as we can. But we had a TC. This is,
spk_0 let's go. I know nobody likes to hear the blow by blow of other people's golf rounds. Oh,
spk_0 I want to hear it. We have, so we have this trip that we've done the last three years. And it's,
spk_0 there's four of us. It's me and our buddy Nick versus Randy and our guide, Big T from the Oscars
spk_0 Podge Tim. And we had this scenario. It's a three day. It's always a three day event. It's
spk_0 always the same teams. And we had, we did 18 holes of four ball at Lasonia. And we played 36 holes
spk_0 at Wisconsin Country Club where I play, which DJ's course is really, it's, it's so, it's so
spk_0 firm. It's really such a good piece of land. Yeah. And they keep doing like the just little
spk_0 incremental improvements of like, hey, we're going to add some short grass over here. Or,
spk_0 we're going to, we're going to add this little wing of this green. They got interesting greens.
spk_0 It's, it's like challenging. Yeah. There's some gettable stuff. The greens. There's a lot going
spk_0 on. It's, it's really good. We can, but anyway, dude, yeah, but they're also pushing
spk_0 memberships hard. So we could, we could cut this part out because I'm trying to get out there
spk_0 and play as much as I can. But 18 holes of four ball, 18 holes of scotch foursums, like modified
spk_0 all shot and then 18 holes of singles. I'd rather say anything like this T.C. It came down to both
spk_0 singles again, both singles matches last hole last day. Our guy big T cash is like a 20 footer
spk_0 that just unlocks this apocalyptic scenario where all of a sudden now I have a 12 footer to win
spk_0 the week, which I just missed. Randy has a 10 footer to win the week fairly misses. And our guy
spk_0 Nick has like a nine footer to win the week. Cash is it me and Nick claim our first victory ever
spk_0 massive, massive moment, but it's all set up. Big T make like a 50 footer in the past. No, he,
spk_0 he catastrophically hit 150 feet on like a 30 footer. Yeah, it was, it was just completely blackout
spk_0 from, from him. All of it was set up, and I hate the area out, Randy, by, we get to, we get to 18
spk_0 and Randy doesn't wait for Nick to mark his ball. But can you give a little bit more context?
spk_0 We just we were like, how are behind pace? We had let regroups through. We're like grinding on the
spk_0 back nine of these singles matches. There's a guy behind us a single in the fairway. I think the
spk_0 sun had just set maybe he had just caught us. He was not waiting for any, any haters. No, he wasn't
spk_0 waiting. That guy wasn't waiting. But I'm still like, oh my god, like, let me just go. Nick's like,
spk_0 had just hit this kind of flop shot up on the green, but it's off. He's got this long walk. I'm like,
spk_0 my putt. I shouldn't hit his ball. Like, let's just get on with it. I hit my putt from the fringe,
spk_0 and it directly hits Nick's ball. Like dead, dead hits it stops immediately. And so it leaves us like
spk_0 Nick and I both then have the same exact putt where obviously I went first, mine missed,
spk_0 and then he he cached his to win. But it's calm. Randy's the golf. That's just an unbelievable
spk_0 read. I mean, it was just it was crazy. I'm yeah, I stopped playing the game the right way, Randy.
spk_0 No, it wasn't. It wasn't. And the lesson was learned to you. So you can believe that. How did Nick
spk_0 celebrate? Because Nick's like one of the driest, funniest humans I've ever met. I think he,
spk_0 he's just soaking up the moment, I think, you know, I think he embraced the gravity of the moment.
spk_0 He knew the trophies were coming home with the boys. I think he had put me on his back. You know,
spk_0 it was just it was a it was a pretty pretty earnest celebration from from the guys. We we needed one.
spk_0 We need to want back. And then he went out of from that. Yeah, for netting at die coke. Yeah,
spk_0 yeah, exactly. But great great week in Milwaukee having those guys here. But T.C. What
spk_0 did you play your club championship this week? Oh, last week. It was it was bad. It didn't go well. I
spk_0 So the night before I was going to I was going to get a big practice session in before. I
spk_0 was going to go up there like an hour and a half before and hit balls. Go to the backs out of
spk_0 the range. Do the whole deal. And I'm just struggling with my spin rates and my driver. So I
spk_0 adjusted my Huzzle setting back to just like stand. I just took a little loft off my driver. Same
spk_0 setting otherwise. And then I adjusted my three wood my five wood as well. And all those were great.
spk_0 Like I I didn't get to practice them. So I rolled up to the first T because I thought my T time was
spk_0 it like 11 20. My T time was at like 10 like 10 15. So I legitimately just set my bag down on
spk_0 the range and they're like, go, what are you doing? You're on the T. I'm like, I'm on the T. What
spk_0 are you talking about? So I get to the first T three put the first hole for Bogey. We're
spk_0 planning on the lagoon course for the first round. This is our little short you know shorter like
spk_0 5800 drug course. It's a much harder golf course in my opinion. It's rated. It's rated a lot
spk_0 easier. It's not. And the wind was blowing. The rough is up. The greens are spicy. The second
spk_0 hole is a drivable par four. The first three holes are kind of funky. And then you really get into
spk_0 it after that. Second hole, drivable par four. I put it in the left green side bunker. Great.
spk_0 Great spot. I get up there. I don't have two of my wedges in my bag because I took the kids to
spk_0 the to the driving range like two nights before just to the chipping green two nights before. And we're
spk_0 just chipping putting around. So I don't have my 58 degree wedge. I'm on my 54 degree wedge.
spk_0 Better not miss any greens. And like that's all lagoon is. So like the entire day I just had like
spk_0 60 to 75 rides in. I'm hitting them with like a 48 degree wedge. Hutted very poorly.
spk_0 I ended up doing like all the hard stuff really well and then just missed a lot of puds.
spk_0 And then yeah just just not my day. And then next day,
spk_0 plutted a lot better but but just couldn't hit my irons. And you know what I drove the ball
spk_0 great. I feel like the the new Huzzle settings. Perfect. Everything. Everything fit. But
spk_0 maybe lost the top of the one the war. Yeah. Yeah. Between that and just I don't know.
spk_0 I just need to get it back. I feel like I kind of lost the magic I had going. You're
spk_0 I know it's kind of you're playing good good golf this summer. Well, you're just getting into golf
spk_0 season now and down there. I am. I am. Just getting into golf season. I got her friend Greg.
spk_0 Yeah. Greg McCray from the you know the mayor of Aaron. He's coming over. I think we're going
spk_0 to go over to to Hyde Park on Thursday. Brandy. You can swing down if you go through Green Bay.
spk_0 Green bones. Yeah. If you got an extra one T.C. Let me know. Everybody's been saying it's in
spk_0 great shape right now. Oh god. I'm coming down in a couple weeks T.C. and I are going to play Hyde Park.
spk_0 I can't wait. I'll scout it out. And then yes, we're going to play and then yeah,
spk_0 then hopefully going over to London here in a couple weeks and play some Heathland stuff
spk_0 there too. So we're to come on that front. And then I just had this crazy dream that
spk_0 that Brooks kept going. I were we're we're riding around on the Schengkansen. The
spk_0 sure the Japanese bullet train all over the country to all these different restaurants. And they
spk_0 were serving as like wagyu like Kobe beef wagyu steaks on the train itself as well.
spk_0 And Brooks just kept saying it's from Japan boss. It all relates back to this highly specific
spk_0 Instagram or you know Twitter posts that he he threw this this picture of like a chart stake
spk_0 up in a really nice bottle of of Bordeaux. And somebody commented on it and then he just
spk_0 responded is from Japan boss. From Japan. Oh gosh. Oh yeah, hopefully you guys had a good time.
spk_0 I've got to play some golf while you're there. Yeah, I think I've been at home for too long.
spk_0 I've been home for the last month. I just need to get back on the road. Yeah. Yeah. Well,
spk_0 guys, I think that's going to be the end of the line here. So to speak, but a lot to a lot to
spk_0 cover today. Brandon great here about the the San Valley trip. You know, congrats to all things
spk_0 involved in the in the Sanderson. I didn't think we're going to go two hours, but here again,
spk_0 here we are. I think as far as looking at on reek looking ahead, we got a fun one coming out
spk_0 this week. A video that I think we started calling as a joke. We started calling it the influencer
spk_0 tour. And I think we're just going to call it the influencer tour. So look for that video on the
spk_0 YouTube channel this week. This is Neil and I just kind of road trip and through the greater New
spk_0 England area, stopping it a couple golf courses, doing some influencer things with our friends
spk_0 of titleists. And it was just a sort of my favorite trips of the year. It was it was really,
spk_0 really great. So that video will come out this week. But other than that, we've got another
spk_0 another rider cup pod that's going to come out this week. Neil is going to take the lead on that
spk_0 one with our our sound mixer audio producer Charlie van Kirk. They captured a ton of audio while
spk_0 they're out at the rider cup. And so I can't wait for this one. We are spending that up into what
spk_0 should be a pretty fun, pretty interesting podcast. So look for that this week. Another
spk_0 than that guy's business is usual, I think. The Amsters and Volnowers this week. That's right.
spk_0 So many sports to talk about. I know. I think the very Yankees aren't looking great T.C.
spk_0 in the early going. Yeah. The Eagles. Lots of discuss there, Randy. The knowers potentially
spk_0 early on a take there. But it was dead set correct. And it's always been it's always been correct.
spk_0 Diet ball or ball zero. I should say sugar free. A red. A heavy took it stuff one today too.
spk_0 Reds loss. And then the brewers. Yeah. Yeah. I got to go to game one man. Holy smokes. What a
spk_0 range of emotions from that Michael Bush lead off home run to a six run first inning, three run
spk_0 second inning. Just Randy American family insurance park as you like to call it was buzzing was
spk_0 coming apart at the screws yesterday. So yeah. Another big one as you're listening to this on Monday.
spk_0 So guys, great time. Great chat with you. Thank you to everybody for listening. Thanks to our
spk_0 friends at Fouchoi and friends at the stack. And we'll catch everybody next time. Cheers.
spk_0 Crag on.
