Meyer. On today's program Joyce will be teaching from her series Healthy Living

Spirit, Soul and Body. We may think that God is concerned only with our

spiritual health. When the truth is, he cares about every single area of our
spk_0
life, physically and mentally too. So how do we take care of our complete
spk_0
selves? Today Joyce shares how with God's help we can learn to make new habits
spk_0
that will lead us to a healthier, happier life. Now here's Joyce with today's
spk_0
teaching. Second Peter chapter 1, verse 3, for his divine power has bestowed upon
spk_0
us all things that are requisite and suited to life and godliness. Not a
spk_0
breathing life, the God kind of life. Through the full personal knowledge of
spk_0
him who called us by and to his own glory and excellence that one verse could
spk_0
make a four-part series. God has called us to be excellent, not mediocre.
spk_0
Excellent. Why we're missing that in the world today. Why are we missing that in
spk_0
the world today? Excellent people say what they're gonna do and do what they
spk_0
said. Excellent people go the extra mile. Excellent people don't leave
spk_0
messes for other people to clean up. But that's not my message tonight. And he said
spk_0
it comes through the full personal knowledge of him. You can't have the kind of
spk_0
life that God wants you to have on your grandma's faith or on Mama's faith or on
spk_0
the God your pastor knows. You need to know him. And this is eternal life that
spk_0
we would know God and the Apostle Paul said my determined purpose is to know
spk_0
him and the power of his resurrection. You don't get the power of his resurrection
spk_0
if you don't know him. And knowing him requires what? Time. You can be as close to
spk_0
God as you want to be. It just depends on how much time you want to put into it.
spk_0
Well I wish I had the relationship with God that Sister Brown has. Well sweetie she
spk_0
didn't get it wishing. And you won't eat her. I got a message coming up on all
spk_0
this wish and stuff. I wish I wish I had your life. Well you don't. So you better
spk_0
start liking yours. It's like fantasy land. I wish. I wish up on a star.
spk_0
All right I'm going to behave. Verse 4. By means of these he's talking about his promises.
spk_0
By means of these he has bestowed upon his precious and exceedingly great promises so
spk_0
that through them you might escape by flight from the moral decay, the rottenness and
spk_0
the corrupt and it's in the world because of covetous lust greed and become a share
spk_0
or a part-taker of the divine nature. Now because he's done everything else we're fully
spk_0
loaded we got it we got it. So verse 5 says basically because of everything else I've told
spk_0
you now here's what I want you to do. For this reason add your diligence to the promises.
spk_0
Employ every effort in exercising your faith to develop virtue. Excellence, resolution,
spk_0
Christian energy and in exercising virtue you will develop knowledge and intelligence and in
spk_0
exercising knowledge you will develop self-control and in exercising self-control you will develop
spk_0
steadfastness, patience, endurance and in exercising steadfastness you will develop godliness and
spk_0
piety and in exercising godliness is anybody tired yet? We've done a lot of exercising here
spk_0
just in the last few minutes. Come on are you getting this and in exercising god in this we will
spk_0
develop brotherly affection and in exercising brotherly affection we will develop Christian love.
spk_0
Now you know there's words that we get excited about and words that we don't get so excited about.
spk_0
So let's just try you guys out. Back in Genesis god said let them have complete authority.
spk_0
Yay don't we like that word authority come on authority who likes the word authority?
spk_0
Whoa complete authority and god bless them bless tell me if it likes the word blessed.
spk_0
Bless them and he said be fruitful and multiply. We like to increase. I like that.
spk_0
Subdued everything under your feet whoa I like that and here's another good one have dominion.
spk_0
Whoa I like that. I mean that's all in like two verses all these promises.
spk_0
Authority subdued dominion blessed. I got some other words for you.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Diligence.
spk_0
Effort.
spk_0
Exercising.
spk_0
Exercising. Oh that's in here about nine times. Exercising.
spk_0
Self-control.
spk_0
Exercising.
spk_0
Steadfast patients.
spk_0
Exercising.
spk_0
Exercising and I'm not talking now about cardio I'm talking about exercising yourself to do what
spk_0
you know you should do.
spk_0
Hey rewards those who diligently seek him.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Diligently seek him.
spk_0
Now the good news is is you didn't have to do it in your own strength.
spk_0
And say I want to be very careful because because of our nature the way we are and because of
spk_0
the lives of Satan there's a part of us that actually kind of likes a to-do list.
spk_0
Okay Joyce gave me seven more things now that I need to do
spk_0
in order to be right with God.
spk_0
No you're already right with God.
spk_0
You've already got it.
spk_0
You're not trying to get it you've got it.
spk_0
Say not I'm trying to get it I've got it.
spk_0
And now all you're doing is responding to what you've already got
spk_0
because you want to share what you've got with the people who don't got it.
spk_0
I know that's not proper English I did it on purpose.
spk_0
So don't write me a letter.
spk_0
Tell me I don't know how to talk I already know that.
spk_0
God's pretty funny I came close to failing English.
spk_0
I did I got a D in English.
spk_0
I didn't care it was a noun or a pronoun or a verb I just wanted to talk.
spk_0
Let me talk.
spk_0
And now by a miracle of God I preach in 93 languages around the world.
spk_0
I was in a hotel hall one night and a guy a Spanish gentleman was there working and he said
spk_0
heard me talking and he said to somebody with me I didn't know she spoke English too.
spk_0
Which is of course all I do speak but we have good translators really good.
spk_0
So we like to do list.
spk_0
And if you don't go home with the right attitude you'd be like okay develop exercise
spk_0
patience self-control.
spk_0
Read the Bible all these things.
spk_0
Let's see the point is I want you to hear everything I said.
spk_0
Take a home pray about it.
spk_0
Now God I want you to give me a starting point here.
spk_0
I want every area of my life to be yours.
spk_0
And so you I want you to show me where we're going to start here.
spk_0
And God will begin to deal with you in things and he'll never give you more than what you can
spk_0
handle at one time.
spk_0
You never have to compare your Christian growth with somebody else.
spk_0
Do not do that.
spk_0
You're an individual.
spk_0
They may have a gift in memorizing scriptures and you may never be able to memorize one
spk_0
your whole life.
spk_0
Doesn't matter.
spk_0
Here's what matters.
spk_0
If you do what God is telling you to do.
spk_0
Come on.
spk_0
If you do what God is asking you to do.
spk_0
And that's all that matters.
spk_0
I want you to go home and follow the Holy Spirit.
spk_0
You have a divine helper.
spk_0
And trust me by the time I'm done this weekend you're going to need a lot of help.
spk_0
Because we are just getting started.
spk_0
You have the Holy Spirit in your life to guide you and to all the truth.
spk_0
He's the Comforter, the counselor, the helper, the advocate, the intercessor, the strength, the standby.
spk_0
And here's kind of the way it works with God.
spk_0
You know, on any given day I'll hear, and you know, when you,
spk_0
people are not, well, how do you hear from God?
spk_0
Well, you get these little promptings.
spk_0
Some people call it a check.
spk_0
It's like, joy, shut up.
spk_0
Don't say another word.
spk_0
You're thinking about that all wrong.
spk_0
Lord, what's wrong?
spk_0
Why do I feel lousy?
spk_0
Well, try believing the best.
spk_0
You know, I get instructions from God all day to do, not to do.
spk_0
And many times to be honest, the voice of God sounds like your own voice in your head.
spk_0
But I'll tell you something.
spk_0
God will speak to you through your own thoughts.
spk_0
That's what's happening when you renew your mind.
spk_0
And the Bible says that the Holy Spirit is in us.
spk_0
And he brings things to our remembrance.
spk_0
That's one of the minutes of, he brings things to our remembers.
spk_0
So the scriptures that you've got in you, you might leave and tomorrow not be able to remember
spk_0
anything I said.
spk_0
But next week, you're in the middle of something, and all of a sudden, the Holy Spirit brings up
spk_0
something and he reminds you and it keeps you out of trouble in that moment.
spk_0
It keeps you from getting in trouble in that moment of your life.
spk_0
Will you open your whole life to God and let him get involved in,
spk_0
how you take care of your body?
spk_0
What you think about your attitudes toward people.
spk_0
Your attitudes toward people.
spk_0
I don't want to leave this side of the room out.
spk_0
I haven't been over here much tonight.
spk_0
I'll come visit you guys.
spk_0
You get what I'm saying, right?
spk_0
You let him in.
spk_0
And you know what?
spk_0
When the increase of the government of your life is turned over to him,
spk_0
then your peace also increases.
spk_0
In equal measure and your power.
spk_0

God wants to heal us spirit, soul and body.

But we must learn to make the healthy choices that will be good investments for us,

physically and spiritually.

Instead of feeling tired, anxious or overwhelmed, let's be strengthened and encouraged.

Let's pursue after God, allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us every step of the way into a healthy,

balanced life.
