spk_0 Second, that's a word to describe it.

spk_0 It's the most predictable offense in the NFL right now.

spk_0 One of them, I mean, if the Eagles are in the shot,

spk_0 going on first and second down, they're throwing the ball.

spk_0 They will never play under center anymore.

spk_0 And if they do, it's a guaranteed run.

spk_0 It feels like.

spk_0 And then what happens is early downs are killing this offense.

spk_0 They're not good on early downs right now,

spk_0 which is something they dominated in last year.

spk_0 So on early downs, they're behind the chains.

spk_0 And then they get into obvious second and or third downs,

spk_0 passing situations.

spk_0 And they're not built to handle all those different disguises

spk_0 and pressures.

spk_0 And they're still predictable with their routes.

spk_0 I mean, these are the third downs in the second half yesterday.

spk_0 A.D. Brown runs a slant in.

spk_0 They get to third and 15.

spk_0 And then Benito runs a stunt.

spk_0 They get to third and 13.

spk_0 And here's an all out blow off pressure

spk_0 that is simulated with seven guys in coverage.

spk_0 That's not how this offense is built to play.

spk_0 It's still wildly too predictable.

spk_0 And if they get into obvious passing situations

spk_0 and you play zone behind it, advantage defense.

spk_0 Yeah, a number of conversations going on

spk_0 about how the offensive line is not the same.

spk_0 But there are circumstances where they're not giving them a chance.

spk_0 And these condensed formations and these splits that they're creating

spk_0 where people are now starting to crowd the line of scrimmage

spk_0 from say, Corn Barkley, this is one example of it right here.

spk_0 We in the shotgun and we get to the point where you can count the box.

spk_0 Look at this condensed formation.

spk_0 Everything is inside almost the inside almost the hashes.

spk_0 By the time you get this motion activity,

spk_0 look how many defenders are around Denver.

spk_0 They trigger this.

spk_0 The safety goes up into the line of scrimmage.

spk_0 They try to bring a backside while receiver

spk_0 on like a trap action.

spk_0 And say, Corn now is already in the line of scrimmage.

spk_0 You see them insert again.

spk_0 It is just so crowded around there.

spk_0 You look at the pass that he was able to hit for a touchdown.

spk_0 They went out, found him, spaced, found him,

spk_0 and one on one to get going.

spk_0 To me, this is about the offensive coordinator.

spk_0 And listen, y'all, we've had this conversation about feeling before.

spk_0 And they were able to get it fixed and manage

spk_0 how they play football going forward.

spk_0 100% agree with you, Dan.

spk_0 But if I'm looking at a nine man box in shotgun,

spk_0 with Jalen Hurtson just saying,

spk_0 you're working back there on the early down,

spk_0 what are we doing running just a regular life off offense?

spk_0 It's also not a play action off offense.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 And the condensed formations to go off of that,

spk_0 the tight ends aren't good enough at blocking.

spk_0 You're going to pull that off the way some other teams

spk_0 that have more condensed looks are.

spk_0 I feel like the story of the game for me was just that Denver,

spk_0 and it's crazy to say this about an Eagles team,

spk_0 was better in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

spk_0 Oh, sure.

spk_0 It was predictable going into it for sure,

spk_0 but it was so obvious.

spk_0 And you been talking about the offense.

spk_0 I'm going to focus on the Eagles defense,

spk_0 not the Denver defense.

spk_0 That four man rush just isn't getting it done right now.

spk_0 The lost players in free agency from the Super Bowl team,

spk_0 but it was predicated, or like the hope for them being still good again,

spk_0 was predicated on the idea of Jalen Carter taking over football games.

spk_0 He's not taking over football games right now.

spk_0 I think he's hurt, playing hurt.

spk_0 But he's getting double a lot,

spk_0 but even when he is getting doubled,

spk_0 no one's taking advantage of the one-on-one.

spk_0 So at the moment, this past rush to me is just not sufficient

spk_0 to play the style of football they want to play structurally.

spk_0 Fancy a dialed up some good blitzes in this game

spk_0 that felt like the only way they could get pressure.

spk_0 Let's give some love, though, to this Bronco's defense.

spk_0 How are you able to just contain Philly so well?

spk_0 I mean, Dan started off, right?

spk_0 They don't handle pressure well,

spk_0 and it was simulated pressure.

spk_0 It was five-man fire zones.

spk_0 They also brought Tallah Noah who hung up to the line of the screen-mage,

spk_0 and you were able to bluff,

spk_0 but also drop defenders opposite him to put pressure on the quarterback.

spk_0 That's a huge sack by Macmillan late in this game.

spk_0 Also, Ufungo was able to put pressure on Jellin Hurts

spk_0 and get the football out of his hand.

spk_0 I thought that Vance chose a new that they would play well on early downs,

spk_0 and then it was about making Jellin Hurts make decisions on third down.

spk_0 And you know this, if you're in off coverage with the pressure,

spk_0 you're going to get a hitch.

spk_0 You're going to get a stop.

spk_0 You're going to get a slant.

spk_0 If you give them an opportunity to throw the fade because you're impressed,

spk_0 that's exactly what you're going to get.

spk_0 So you will basically eliminate more than half of the routery

spk_0 just by presenting pressure to the Philadelphia Eagles.

spk_0 So not only are they stagnant with the initial play call,

spk_0 they also don't adjust with any creativity.

spk_0 Look at that.

spk_0 It was concerning because when we talked about feeling being dominant,

spk_0 it was always them dictating what you did.

spk_0 That's the tone.

spk_0 Like set in the tone.

spk_0 Beyond the physicality formation-wise, using RPO with Jellin,

spk_0 using zone re with Jellin.

spk_0 They have like defenses are just lining up at the line of scrimmage

spk_0 and going forward.

spk_0 Well, I think that part of it too,

spk_0 both guards are essentially gone from last year with Dickerson and Zindry.

spk_0 So then it's all connected.

spk_0 Bad early downs, you're not an overly exotic protection team on second down.

spk_0 And teams know if they follow the Tampa model of fire zone pressure you,

spk_0 you're not going to have success against that defense.

spk_0 I'm glad you brought up the Dickerson injury because we are going to bring

spk_0 an Adam Shepter right now with the latest on some top stories going on right now.

spk_0 We begin Adam with Landon Dickerson.

spk_0 What can you tell us about the Eagles offensive lineman?

spk_0 Laura, he's been hurt all year long.

spk_0 Played through injury, limped off the field yesterday against the Denver Broncos.

spk_0 The Eagles have to play without him yesterday.

spk_0 And let's keep in mind.

spk_0 The Eagles now have a short week with the game Thursday night against the Giants

spk_0 as he deals with this injured ankle.

spk_0 Hard to imagine that somebody like that is going to be able to play Thursday night.

spk_0 But he's been so tough and such a warrior.

spk_0 Anything is always possible.

spk_0 Meanwhile, Amari and Hampton was in a walking boot after the game yesterday.

spk_0 Got kicked in the foot, ankle, leg area.

spk_0 Obviously did not look good.

spk_0 He left the game, did not come back.

spk_0 Look at you.

spk_0 He could move around a little bit but the fact that he was not back was not encouraging.

spk_0 And the injury news for the New England Patriots a short time ago was bad.

spk_0 There, running back Antonio Gibson did suffer a season ending torn ACL last night against the Buffalo Bills.

spk_0 Test today, confirmed that it was torn.

spk_0 You saw Gibson lead the field last night very emotional.

spk_0 And another big injury today, the Colts kicker, Spencer Schrader, suffered a season ending knee injury against the Raiders torn ligaments in the knee.

spk_0 He had been one of the best kickers in the NFL this season and that's going to be a major loss for the Colts trying to have to replace a kicker that had been that good and that reliable.

spk_0 You just hate to see these injuries this season.

spk_0 There seems like there's been more than I remember in recent years.

spk_0 But maybe I say that every year.

spk_0 It was about making plays.

spk_0 What did they do so well to limit the reigning MVP?

spk_0 It all starts with defending the run.

spk_0 This spills offense as a dominant rushing attack and the Patriots held them to their worst rushing performance.

spk_0 So the sea wasn't even that bad.

spk_0 But it was their worst of the season.

spk_0 They came into this game by the way and on the season now their fourth in yards per carry allowed.

spk_0 Going back and watching how they approached the run.

spk_0 I thought the nose tackle.

spk_0 Tongue was unbelievable.

spk_0 Those are both free age unackers.

spk_0 The lanes.

spk_0 By the way was incredible.

spk_0 However, the other thing I want to highlight and this is coming off the run defense.

spk_0 A lot of times they would show too and they were able to add a safety to the box because they had so much face in their cover corners.

spk_0 And that was really big difference in this game.

spk_0 You highlighted some of those extended plays with Drake May's, Deftick's finding a way to get open down to him.

spk_0 How many times did it feel like Josh Allen was padding, padding, buying time, so nobody was open.

spk_0 Christian Gonzalez was unbelievable in this game.

spk_0 He is unbelievable.

spk_0 And that's what the Patriots have.

spk_0 They have a dominant corner duo and a very good defensive line.

spk_0 I agree.

spk_0 I was thinking about you last night.

spk_0 They plastered so well on extended plays too.

spk_0 But the three turnovers.

spk_0 Look, Buffalo is fine.

spk_0 I thought New England played a phenomenal game.

spk_0 It was physical.

spk_0 New England is going to be a challenge for Buffalo when they play again.

spk_0 But the three turnovers in the red zone is the story of the night.

spk_0 Very uncharacteristic of them this year.

spk_0 But also when you think about how this team operates, especially when they get into these particular situations.

spk_0 These are always most of the time, at least field goals.

spk_0 We're talking about an opportunity for Buffalo on some critical downs to either extend drives or you get this interception from Josh Allen in the red zone.

spk_0 So again, you walk away from this game if you Buffalo saying we miss multiple opportunities in order to win this game or have an opportunity to win this game.

spk_0 And you just go back to the drawing board.

spk_0 But I don't think Buffalo needs to go and reinvent themselves at all.

spk_0 New England play well, give them credit.

spk_0 Real quick on the run defense.

spk_0 This is one of the most explosive run games in Buffalo.

spk_0 New England didn't give up any for the running backs.

spk_0 He had two touchdowns, 190 passing yards, despite the Browns losing 21 to 17.

spk_0 Gabriel did talk about it after the game though.

spk_0 I thought it was really good, really impressive against a very good defense.

spk_0 I would say connected the dots of the defense incredibly well.

spk_0 You know, when defenses do one thing, where does the ball go?

spk_0 And that's the decision making.

spk_0 The connections that he had with both of his tight ends in Jokou and Fanon was really good.

spk_0 He was aggressive with the football as well.

spk_0 I was one of the things surprising.

spk_0 He was aggressive with it and confident.

spk_0 So while in a loss, I was very impressed with his first start.

spk_0 I thought this was a masterclass in attacking space on offense through scheme.

spk_0 Mayfield was 10 for 11 off of play action for 159 yards, which helped mitigate Seattle's strength.

spk_0 The pass rush, the entire secondary was injured in this one.

spk_0 Through accuracy, Baker was nails attacking the voids in Seattle's zone coverage.

spk_0 And then through great situational awareness on the part of the receivers.

spk_0 This was one of the best games you'll see from a receiver all year long from a mecca boot cover.

spk_0 Of the many things he did well, the thing that jumped out to me was just his ability to find the soft spots and sit down in those zone voids.

spk_0 So one of the ways that I have been a part of stuff like this in the past was specifically if you're playing as the road team.

spk_0 The opposing teams at home, they're on defense, loud crowd, right?

spk_0 And so we would at times go no huddle.

spk_0 One of the reasons we would do that was we would get up to line of scrimmage, crowds going crazy, going no huddle.

spk_0 We would get lined up into a formation.

spk_0 And then we would try to see if we can get signals from the nonverbal element by the defense or a defensive signal caller of like,

spk_0 oh, we're in two by two.

spk_0 And I see the secondary like going like this to their quads.

spk_0 That means well, it's probably going to be cover four.

spk_0 And so then can we do we have enough time on the play clock to then get us into a cover four beat or when it comes to a really good past concept that could be the perfect play to attack that coverage.

spk_0 And so I think that's a lot of the stuff at least that I've been a part of.

spk_0 It's not this unbelievable cheating stuff for your studying tape on film.

spk_0 It's more of like no huddle.

spk_0 What do we see that we know is there go to okay, can we take advantage of it?

spk_0 I think a lot of people were surprised that Liam Cohen was so upset with Robert Salas so much so that I started texting NFL sources and saying,

spk_0 did he overdo it there because he didn't see it in the clip.

spk_0 He goes after Salas has keep my name out of your mouth.

spk_0 And Salas very, very apologetically was like, I was meaning to compliment you.

spk_0 I wasn't trying to insult you.

spk_0 Mina and RC, what does this Ravens defense need to do?

spk_0 Well, I think the first thing is this Ravens defense needs to get some people healthy.

spk_0 Yeah.

spk_0 Mina, when you look at this roster or this list of inactive, what's the first thing that comes to your mind?

spk_0 I don't know.

spk_0 Some of these players who are out there on the field right now.

spk_0 No, no, I mean it's a nightmare.

spk_0 Yeah, it's a nightmare.

spk_0 But for me, this is the first time I looked at a Baltimore Ravens team and thought they gave up.

spk_0 I will never say that a team quit, right?

spk_0 Because you can't speak to their character, but this team was not playing to win.

spk_0 The one thing you expect from a John Harbour team is don't defense.

spk_0 You're going to run.

spk_0 You're going to hit and you're going to be physical.

spk_0 We didn't see any of that yesterday.

spk_0 Not only did CJ Stroud had all day or have all day in the pocket to deliver the ball to distribute the football.

spk_0 We also watched Woody Marx and we saw Nick Chubb continue to turn out yards in the run.

spk_0 And there was no one on that defense that would step up and be in the force or no one on that defense that would step up and say enough is enough.

spk_0 I understand without Lamar Jackson, the offense is going to struggle.

spk_0 But as a complete team, I didn't feel like this team was prepared to play executed in that way or efforted in the way that you need to.

spk_0 I think what's challenging is one of those questions where how much do you put this on the players who are absent?

spk_0 And I mean, if you look at the list of players, it's not just starters.

spk_0 It's the most expensive players on the entire football team.

spk_0 And then how much do you put on coaching?

spk_0 Because even before some of these players got hurt, defense, just speaking of the defense, you saw busted coverages all over the place.

spk_0 They weren't getting pressure.

spk_0 And while some of these players are returning, their best pass rusher, Mattabike, is not coming back.

spk_0 I do wonder if they might consider a mid season coaching change.

spk_0 And again, like, you can't blame Zach Orfer everything.

spk_0 However, to your point, the effort, some of the defensive miscommunications, the lapses in communication and issues covering, that's been going on all year.

spk_0 And the other big piece is we've seen this team in the last couple of years struggle early.

spk_0 Yeah, and figured things out defensively.

spk_0 But when your best players aren't playing well, and in this case, when your best players aren't available, it's difficult to make things change and make that adjustment.

spk_0 But if you're Zach Orfer, you have to figure it out because I believe the same thing as you mean a change could be coming at the defense coordinator position.

spk_0 But then the third thing, and this might have been the most surprising thing,

spk_0 Cortland Sutton just reminded everyone he's still at Duke.

spk_0 Like we talk about AJ Brown, similar players in some ways.

spk_0 But it was Cortland Sutton in this game who was going up and winning those one on ones.

spk_0 The back shoulder fades, making tackles to make huge plays using his size

spk_0 to his advantage.

spk_0 Those strong hands, the contested catchability.

spk_0 He was phenomenal in the fourth quarter.

spk_0 And Bonaix knew that and he threw him the ball, which was very, very smart.

spk_0 I thought the game management by Sean Payton was excellent.

spk_0 I thought the in-game adjustments by Sean Payton was excellent.

spk_0 Because through what, 35 minutes, they had three points.

spk_0 And I think what you started to see was some of the stuff you talked about the run game.

spk_0 But also they ran their four by one offense.

spk_0 Like six or seven times in the last 20 minutes of this football game.

spk_0 And I always say like, it's not just four by one.

spk_0 It's the stuff that they do out of it.

spk_0 Sometimes it's kicking the ball to the perimeter to JK Dobbins.

spk_0 This is like a spinner action that creates an easy play.

spk_0 It should pass to Evan Ingram.

spk_0 And the way that they found matchups for guys, this time Sutton at the number four position,

spk_0 not even the number three, open for their offense.

spk_0 I just thought Sean Payton's awareness of, okay, what we're doing isn't working.

spk_0 What are the things that we can do to actually get us some offense?

spk_0 Really, we could blow the game down to this.

spk_0 They went to four by one, seven times, six of them were on first and ten.

spk_0 They got efficient plays which allowed third and manageable.

spk_0 Philadelphia did nothing on early downs in the second half.

spk_0 It led to third and long.

spk_0 No efficiency versus efficiency.

spk_0 They came to win that game too.

spk_0 They went for two. They converted to two point conversion.

spk_0 A lot of people at home were saying, why are they going for two?

spk_0 Sean Payton went in there to win the game.

spk_0 And it meant more to him.

spk_0 He grew up in Philly, grew up in the area.

spk_0 He coached in Philly early on.

spk_0 He was a coach on those Ray Rhodes teams in the late 90s.

spk_0 And I'll tell you this, they win that game Monday night football.

spk_0 They practice Thursday, Friday, Saturday, just three days of practice.

spk_0 And then on the way home, police escort usually just takes them right in the highway.

spk_0 He's talking to the driver of the bus and he's telling them, hey, why don't we actually go down Broad Street

spk_0 They ended up just going to the original route.

spk_0 This one meant more.

spk_0 I think this was a career defining and regime defining moment for Sean Payton as, hey, I'm no longer just a sane sky.

spk_0 I am a Broncos head coach and we're doing it.

spk_0 Arcy, another pedestrian output for this Eagles offense.

spk_0 What is the issue there?

spk_0 Yeah, you're right with pedestrian.

spk_0 And it's the pedestrian walk, right?

spk_0 It's like the New York people too.

spk_0 When you get there and they got that big old orange sign with the hand that's telling you stop and they still go.

spk_0 Like that's how the Eagles are playing offense right now.

spk_0 There is no creativity.

spk_0 And I think we sort of got into the mode of we've watched this team fix these issues before.

spk_0 And I'm starting to get back to the place of we saw them two years ago not fix it.

spk_0 There is no creativity on early downs.

spk_0 This is a very much we have better plays, players than you sort of schematic offense.

spk_0 And they have to figure out a way to get Sequan Barkley involved.

spk_0 Listen, I know he only had nine touches and I'm not saying it has to be Christian McCaffrey or Bazaan Robinson because we understand AJ Brown, Devonte, Goddard.

spk_0 All of those other guys can also produce.

spk_0 But Sequan Barkley has to be involved in different ways than we're seeing it.

spk_0 Yeah, look, I tell you this though, this Denver Broncos defense, you become predictable in passing.

spk_0 They're going to kill you.

spk_0 And that's really what it boils down to in this game in particular when they knew it was a passing down in the passing situation.

spk_0 They were able to get out there not only winning one on one's using each other for games, but they have so much rust lane integrity as well.

spk_0 They're smart.

spk_0 They know who's on the back end as far as Patrick Sartain.

spk_0 So they kind of pressure from that area to allow him to be one on one.

spk_0 But you look at all of these pockets condensing.

spk_0 You look at the defensive tackles pushing people into the lap of Jaylen Hurts.

spk_0 There was a concerted effort from Vance Joseph not to let Jaylen Hurts away.

spk_0 This way, tell me about this though, we're talking about that.

spk_0 They have people that can rush and they can win with four, but Vance Joseph still works creativity.

spk_0 Oh, yeah, because he got that guy back there.

spk_0 Yeah, like that, that is, RC, you know, you know this is what it's anybody.

spk_0 You play with some great corners, the freedom that they give you.

spk_0 And in particular, when you look on that side, the pressures come from Patrick Sartain's side.

spk_0 And that is the beautiful thing about what they do defensively.

spk_0 Not only the four-man rush, but when you do bring pressure as far as the Denver Broncos go,

spk_0 they are speeding up timing because it's in the center of the line of scrimmage as well.

spk_0 Majority at the time, or they bringing those safety or defensive backs off the C gap as well.

spk_0 To my point, this is such a talented defense, but they don't just lean on their talent.

spk_0 They're not just like, oh, we're going to play Russia's Four, we're going to play Mancubber.

spk_0 It's a problem.

spk_0 And he made every big play they asked for him to.

spk_0 And the last five years, the AFC East has been the bills and then three A teams.

spk_0 But no one's really challenged Buffalo.

spk_0 To have a young quarterback, finally go into that building and go blow for blow with Josh Allen.

spk_0 And have the defense able to stop Josh Allen when it mattered most.

spk_0 It felt like the Patriots were telling the bills, hey, we're here too.

spk_0 We might not be doing it this year, but we're going to be here for a while.

spk_0 First and foremost, like I think the Patriots put together all star coaches now.

spk_0 You get my Braille, but you get Josh McDaniels back to being an offensive one.

spk_0 Instead of a head coach, they were phenomenal last night, but the trust and the belief that they have and Drake May

spk_0 to push the football down the field.

spk_0 It's been happening all season.

spk_0 But in these critical situations, I thought some of these shots that he took were phenomenal.

spk_0 Look at the protection from the whole line first and foremost.

spk_0 Layers this football over the top of the linebackers.

spk_0 This is not a throw that coaches are calling or are made a quarterback is making where he's worried about making a mistake.

spk_0 And then back to this one, Dan talks about the whole shot.

spk_0 As a defensive player, those are the ones where you say, man, we should have had a chance to get our hands on the ball.

spk_0 The great quarterbacks make those throws.

spk_0 So I think it was a coming out part of for Drake May, but it also spoke to Josh McDaniel.

spk_0 And it spoke to Mike Raeble in allowing him in those situations to call those plays and be able to push the ball down the field

spk_0 and make throws that are not easy to make in the NFL in those crunch time situations.

spk_0 I think what struck me the most was just how sustainable it all felt.

spk_0 I mean, we were all calling it a coming out party, but the reality is he's been playing really well since week two.

spk_0 Should have won that game against Steelers, tights and fumbles.

spk_0 So this is not something that just happened out of the blue with Drake May.

spk_0 But the other thing is while we have focused so much on the amazing out of structure plays, you know, pushing out the defender,

spk_0 flipping the ball to digs, a lot of what he did was inside the pocket.

spk_0 I thought he was extremely poised against a blitz.

spk_0 They really turned it up in the second half and he looked like he had all of the answers.

spk_0 And then Marcus, you alluded to this with the whole shot just throwing with touch.

spk_0 Some of the throws to Hunter Henry.

spk_0 They haven't even made the highlights reals, but his ability to again layer the ball over the middle of the field to the, over the second level that defense was extraordinary.

spk_0 His accuracy has been so good this year.

spk_0 And when I think about why this is going to keep happening moving forward, it's that accuracy for me.

spk_0 The Patriots 2 and O on the road this season too.

spk_0 He's 163 yards yesterday, third most by a rookie in team history.

spk_0 Darn, why was the Bucks offense so effective yesterday?

spk_0 First down, under center, play action, using motion and snapping the ball while the motion is still happening.

spk_0 I just think Brian McClendon, who's their wide receiver coach, has done a great job of them understanding distribution of routes.

spk_0 So, you're going to see up top is Egg Bukka.

spk_0 Now we're going to get motion from that receiver at the bottom of the screen.

spk_0 Now, look at the distribution between the receivers.

spk_0 That slot motion guy is vertical right now because there's no reroute.

spk_0 Now, you're trying to lift that coverage with the speed but see the space between those two receivers?

spk_0 That's distribution.

spk_0 Now, the defense is in conflict at Bukka.

spk_0 It does a great job of throttling near the sideline.

spk_0 It's all because of that.

spk_0 First down, under center, here comes that motion and we're going to snap the ball while the motion is still going on.

spk_0 Now, we get speed down the field.

spk_0 Okay, now again, the distribution of these routes is such a big deal.

spk_0 Everybody's sprinting vertically receiver at the bottom of the screen goes outside.

spk_0 The defense has no shot here because you have such an expansion of depth that the vacate in middle of the field because that is the right.

spk_0 And the lift by that speed is such a big deal and the utilization by Baker Mayfield.

spk_0 First down, there's this under center.

spk_0 Now, the corner is covering a Bukka up top.

spk_0 That motion and snap, they're changing the coverage on the fly.

spk_0 Now, Bukka has a vertical release that's no restriction.

spk_0 And then Baker Mayfield sees that there's that soft spot and ball comes out on time.

spk_0 I just think that the distribution that is, there's teams that don't have this.

spk_0 The space that they have in their receivers, in their routes.

spk_0 I just think it makes it incredibly hard on defenses to cover both.

spk_0 It also happened on early downs, which allowed that offense to be aggressive.

spk_0 Well, the other big piece of it is too.

spk_0 You're making the defense communicate while moving.

spk_0 Right, there's so much, there's so many times you want to be set.

spk_0 But with the motion or snapping the football while the players are in motion.

spk_0 Now, you saw Josh Joe, he's communicating to the back end as he's moving out.

spk_0 And now you've got to play the switch release.

spk_0 And I think understanding that has been something that they've done a great job of.

spk_0 But even on the test Johnson route, you saw him find his way back to a hole.

spk_0 A mecca Bukka, he found his way to settle down inside the coverage.

spk_0 And when you can do those things and when you can make it difficult because you were adjusting on the fly,

spk_0 it's the exact thing we always credit Travis Kelsey for.

spk_0 But they seem to be doing it as a team.

spk_0 Let me ask you defensively when the routes are so distributed.

spk_0 If you're distributed like that, what's the biggest challenge?

spk_0 The biggest challenge is this though.

spk_0 They're making you play the width and the distance of the field.

spk_0 Right, so now you continue to spread us out.

spk_0 But you're also pushing us deep.

spk_0 And you have layered routes that we can see Baker Mayfield's understanding exactly how to find those spaces in the zone and beat the man to man coverage.

spk_0 You guys, Baker Mayfield.

spk_0 There we go. Baker Mayfield, fourth quarterback in NFL history with an 85% completion percentage.

spk_0 So impressive to see what he did.

spk_0 He would be my leading MVP candidate through that but you already lose Slater in the off season Joe Alt who was showing it.

spk_0 He was an absolute superstar at the left tackle position and now Murray and Hampton.

spk_0 After Najee Harris went out I thought that was actually a good thing for him.

spk_0 Because you could see him Murray and Hampton starting to ascend averaged over 10 yards of carry against the New York Giants.

spk_0 I believe that he's special. I believe he's the sort of special that can change games and when you are already depleted up front you need a run game.

spk_0 We know that that's something that Jim Marvall wants for his team to get into the play action chunk game and so losing him is huge.

spk_0 How was that commander's offense though able to get back on track with Jayden Daniels under center?

spk_0 I mean the run game put up goddy numbers in this one and you can watch it on tape one thing that struck me.

spk_0 I've just never seen the Chargers Stevens out leveraged the way they were especially on those off-tackle rounds.

spk_0 But just the creativity from Clip Kingsbury who has always been excellent at designing run game but he continues to iterate with this Washington offense in really interesting ways.

spk_0 I know Dan's going to do a tape on this but the six offensive line looks what I loved was how they would put Daniels in the pistol on all those.

spk_0 So they would create some uncertainty on the part of the defense and then when Daniels is in the gun as he normally is and they run mostly with a lot of gap runs, a lot of counter pin pull, the touchdown was pin pull.

spk_0 Everybody is pulling and blocking so well out of those looks and his presence in the gun creates some uncertainty that froze the Chargers second level defenders a little bit.

spk_0 But the execution in the offensive line blocking on those gap runs was really excellent.

spk_0 I think it's the best way to utilize the pistol in the modern era of the NFL.

spk_0 I've always thought that Clip's offenses were a little bit finesse.

spk_0 I think the utilization of that six offensive lineman plus the two tight ends gives a little bit of physical finesse.

spk_0 I mean there's six offensive lineman, two tight ends, there's that pistol.

spk_0 So there's the balance of their offense and now you get those double pullers.

spk_0 This is like what we would call GY counter but that Y is a six offensive lineman.

spk_0 And so once again you see six offensive lineman, two tight ends, there's that pistol.

spk_0 So there's symmetry, down block, down block, down block by three offensive linemen while also double pulling in a tight end being the perimeter blocker.

spk_0 Now we get double wing, six offensive linemen and there's an outside zone or a duo where you get double teams, double team front side.

spk_0 There's an easy cut back. I mean there's a vacant lane on the backside that the tail back finds.

spk_0 I just think the ability for them to still in their no huddle offense and still have finesse in regards to a lot of the motion and movement.

spk_0 But have that physical presence in their run game.

spk_0 I just think it's something that like this is the new layer for this offense this year.

spk_0 You know, I think last year it was the no huddle was new to everybody.

spk_0 I think now it's this is the evolution for Cliff in this offense.

spk_0 I would also give Adam Peters a lot of credit, the general manager.

spk_0 This offseason we knew that Jaden Daniels had this breakout season but they needed to added some things in the offense and who they go and get.

spk_0 They got Debo Samuel who's been incredible for the commanders.

spk_0 Basically a one year deal for $20 million.

spk_0 Go make your money somewhere else if you have to but use this year to really show what you still got.

spk_0 He's been outstanding and Laramie Tunzel has been as good an offensive tackle on the league as anybody this season and absolutely was dominant against a good charge.

spk_0 They usually run to his side.

spk_0 Yeah, absolutely.

spk_0 And I think the other piece about Debo Samuel is you've seen over the last two weeks Cliff Kingsbury sort of evolved his position.

spk_0 They have to be different from the number one wide receiver position when his Debo Samuel.

spk_0 We're talking about the backside of empty for duplets, deep crossers.

spk_0 We've seen him in motion getting the football to him very quickly in the flat.

spk_0 Also he's used largely in the quick screen game.

spk_0 I thought the way that Debo Samuel was moved around and maneuvered as a chess piece for this offense was extremely interesting in this game.

spk_0 And now you add Terry McClaurring today when he can come back and take the top off of a defense and it's really going to help Jaden Daniels.

spk_0 Debo Samuel has four touchdowns and five games this season for reference last season four touchdowns and 15 games.

spk_0 Yeah, he's really enjoying his new spot.

spk_0 Jacksonville, the Kansas City Chiefs.

spk_0 On the road taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars at 80's turn on ESPN and ABC.

spk_0 Now Travis Hunter, we will see him on display tonight.

spk_0 He has been a consistent part of the Jaguars often this season playing 58% of his team

spk_0 snaps and at least 35 in every game.

spk_0 But after averaging 40 defensive snaps in weeks two and three, Hunter only played nine defensive

spk_0 snaps last week against 49ers all in the first quarter.

spk_0 Head coach Liam Cohen called it just a personnel decision.

spk_0 And in talking to Liam Cohen about how they will plan to use Travis Hunter tonight, we

spk_0 should see something more similar to what we saw earlier in the season weeks two and

spk_0 three.

spk_0 About 80 snaps total, 40, 40 split is what they like to do both offensively and defensively.

spk_0 And they have sung Travis Hunter's praises talking about how committed he's been to both

spk_0 sides of the ball putting it over time.

spk_0 One of my favorite quotes was talking to Devon Lloyd the linebacker.

spk_0 He said Travis Hunter is so crazy that it's like he stops, he catches the ball, then he

spk_0 lingers in the air for a little bit and then comes back down and you're like, what just

spk_0 happened?

spk_0 I asked Travis Hunter about that.

spk_0 It feels himself lingering in the air.

spk_0 He's like, no, he looked at me like I was crazy.

spk_0 He's like, that's just what I do.

spk_0 What is athletic ability that is God-Diven, it's crazy, it's amazing.

spk_0 But I think what's made the difference here for Jacksonville has been how committed Travis

spk_0 Hunter has been to learning both sides of the ball, putting in a lot of extra time to

spk_0 make sure that works and we'll see it on display here on the field behind us tonight.

spk_0 All right, Peter, what's got you most excited for this team's Jags?

spk_0 I think it's going to be a statement, kind of franchise statement moment for the Jaguars.

spk_0 You know the last time the Jaguars won a Monday Night Football game was 2011.

spk_0 Blaine Garver beat Joe Flacco in a game 12 to 7 on Monday Night Football.

spk_0 The last time the Jags won in this building on Monday Night.

spk_0 Here you are, young team.

spk_0 This is that Maurice Jones drew in Jacksonville.

spk_0 Of course you've got Gabbard.

spk_0 But what are the Jaguars now?

spk_0 They're three in one, they're a nice story.

spk_0 Imagine they beat the Chiefs and now you're four in one and you've got this young coach

spk_0 and this young quarterback and Travis Hunter playing at the Headsman Plan.

spk_0 I look at this if I'm a Jaguars player.

spk_0 National TV, one of the few times we're going to get this opportunity.

spk_0 We've got a shot here to make a statement and for the franchise that has had very little

spk_0 success on prime time in big spots in this building, go and seize the moment.

spk_0 Yeah, along those lines I think there's an opportunity for America to learn how good

spk_0 this run game has been this season with ETN and we've been talking about it all year

spk_0 long.

spk_0 I love their 12 personnel meaning two tight end runs.

spk_0 Brenton Strange has been excellent for them blocking.

spk_0 But it's also a match of advantage in this game.

spk_0 This run game is third league wide in DVA.

spk_0 The Chiefs run defense is a bottom five unit against the run so far this year.

spk_0 It's going to be a good night for Jacksonville if they can control the pace of the game by

spk_0 keeping it on the ground.

spk_0 ETN being of course a big part of that.

spk_0 Peter mentioned this could be a statement type game for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

spk_0 The last time we were here for Monday night football, it was Doug Peterson's second year.

spk_0 They were going to have an opportunity to take over the entire AFC South and they lost

spk_0 to Jake Browning and the Cincinnati Bengals and that was sort of the demise of that group

spk_0 of coaches.

spk_0 That was the demise of that era.

spk_0 Can they make that statement tonight?

spk_0 In order to make that statement, this defense has to continue what they've been doing

spk_0 throughout the first four weeks, which is putting pressure on the quarterback and turning

spk_0 the football over at least three turnovers in each of the first four games.

spk_0 That is a recipe for success with Meena mentioning how well they can run the football.

spk_0 Now you take the football away.

spk_0 You're giving yourselves extra possessions and you're keeping the football away from the

spk_0 other team.

spk_0 Well Kansas City offensively played the way they did that last week's scheme wise.

spk_0 They were one of the offenses that I liked watching as far as like an unexpected.

spk_0 They put Patrick under sender 17 times.

spk_0 They went six offensive linemen as well.

spk_0 So are they going to do two weeks in a row of that?

spk_0 And then I'd also say this, one of the things that Kansas City has struggled with defensively

spk_0 is screen passes.

spk_0 Liam Cohen, one of the best screen pass play callers in the NFL.

spk_0 How many screens are thrown tonight?

spk_0 How many go to Travis ETN?

spk_0 I would expect five, six, seven screens out of this Jaguars offense tonight.

spk_0 Tonight's going to be about the big play though.

spk_0 Two of them were like, which team can create those dynamic plays?

spk_0 We've seen it from the Jacksonville Jaguars with Travis ETN last week.

spk_0 We saw Xavier worthy of the Kansas City Chiefs.

spk_0 He was healthy and he was able to create some of those plays.

spk_0 I would also say watch out for Bershart Smith, right?

spk_0 We're starting to see him be utilized more in this offense.

spk_0 He's an explosive player from the running back position.

spk_0 I was going to ask if Xavier worthy can't go.

spk_0 How much Meena do you think that matters for the Chiefs?

spk_0 It matters, I think Thornton stretches the field for them,

spk_0 but I also think this could be a big Chelsea game.

spk_0 Jack's defense this year is playing way more zone than man.

spk_0 Historically, Kelsey has been Patrick's answer against those books.

spk_0 I'd be shocked if worthy doesn't go.

spk_0 I'd be shocked if I know the question.

spk_0 I know the ankle.

spk_0 This is a must have for Kansas City.

spk_0 He will go knowing him if he can.

spk_0 Big challenge for the Chiefs tackles as well.

spk_0 These defensive ends in Jacksonville are violent with their hands.

spk_0 If they struggle tonight in run or pass,

spk_0 that's huge advantage to Jack's defense.

spk_0 You can also fill it from Coach Caponelli's defense.

spk_0 Like they show a hunting and it's so fun to work.
