Speaker B
Hello everyone and welcome back to the NBA Podcast on the across the Pond Network.
Speaker C
I'm your host Jake and Basketball Just.
Speaker B
Like this podcast took a little bit of a short break for the presidential election, but now that's all over. We can get back into the basketball and starting off this week we're going to start with my Los Angeles Lakers.
Speaker C
Who have been better than I was expecting, although still not particularly a good.
Speaker B
Team with a 44 record. The Lakers 6 10th in the west.
Speaker C
Which is better than they were doing.
Speaker B
This time last year. Bronny James has now been demoted to the G League, which I don't think comes a shock to many people. His father LeBron James is still proving himself to be a top player, getting 39 points against Memphis the other night and averaging 24 points per game on the season. He's showing that even with his age he's still not limited. However, another player who's really not been limited is Anthony Davis who who currently.
Speaker C
Leads the league in scoring.
Speaker B
The Lakers center is averaging 32.6 points.
Speaker C
Per game and 11.6 rebounds per game.
Speaker B
He's really been unlocked by this new JJI relic offense. However, what's really not being unlocked this.
Speaker C
Season is the Lakers defense, 20th in steals and 29th of blocks.
Speaker B
The Lakers really have not done that well behind the basketball. Offensively they're still 29th in three point makes, putting them in a vicarious position offensively. Their defensive woes may be remedied by the return of Jared Van Der Litz who is still out so far this season.
Speaker C
All starters are in double digit scoring, but it's not quite good enough yet.
Speaker B
To lift them from a 44 record.
Speaker C
Another team however that is doing exceptionally well considering their offseason is the Golden State Warriors. Having lost longtime servant Klay Thompson, they're doing exceptionally well. Their only loss so far this season is a 104 to 112 loss to the LA Clippers. They currently sit with a 71 record in third in the West. Steph Curry has quietened down a little bit, only averaging 21 points per game, although he is quite far into his.
Speaker B
NBA career and we really don't know how much longer we have with him. We really must savor how great this player has been. Golden State warriors of the team is.
Speaker C
Third in points per game, first in rebounds, third third in assists and fifth in steals whilst also being third in blocks. Those are defensive numbers from Golden State that we're not accustomed to seeing. New player Buddy Hill is averaging 21 points per game. He's second on the team, only behind by Curry by 0.2 points per game.
Speaker B
Is this the transition of power at.
Speaker C
Golden State and are we seeing this.
Speaker B
Dynasty last on Beyond Steph Curry's reign Now? A team that many expected to become a dynasty after winning their first chip.
Speaker C
On was the Denver Nuggets, but they apparently seem to have imploded. Currently 8th in the conference with a.
Speaker B
5, 3 record, it is worth noting that the West a 5, 3 record only gets you to 8th place.
Speaker C
Denver Nuggets are not playing to the.
Speaker B
Standard we're used to seeing them at.
Speaker C
They currently have six players averaging double digit scores, but that hasn't done much to aid their record.
Speaker B
The Cody Yokage is very much grabbing.
Speaker C
This team by the scruff of the neck and pulling them forward.
Speaker B
He's taken inspiration from new teammate Russell.
Speaker C
Westbrook and so far is averaging a triple double this season.
Speaker B
Jokic is averaging 28.8 points per game, 13.5 rebounds per game and 11 assists per game. The only player who's ever managed to do this for an entire season is his teammate Russell Westbrook who seems to.
Speaker C
Be having a bit of a revival.
Speaker B
This season, averaging 24 points per game.
Speaker C
And even scored 29 points against OKC, making three from four from three point attempts. The team as a whole do not look too bad. 4th in points, 2, 2nd in rebounds, 3rd in assists and 4th in steals.
Speaker B
Yet still find themselves just inside the playing spot and wrapping up our recap of the West.
Speaker C
The Thunders young core continue to impress.
Speaker B
Che Julius Alexander is averaging 26 points per game while second year Chet Holgram is averaging 9.8 rebounds a game and.
Speaker C
Has actually got slightly better stat so far than Victor Wembanyama. The team is second in the Conference 71 with the only loss so far.
Speaker B
This season coming to the Denver Nuggets.
Speaker C
They are first in steals and first in blocks, showing an impressive defense.
Speaker B
This is a very young OKC team.
Speaker C
And we've seen very young OKC teams.
Speaker B
With Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant in.
Speaker C
The past make it to the NBA.
Speaker B
Finals and not quite win it. Maybe this team will be able to go far enough to to actually win the chip this time for Oklahoma. Now moving across to the east, the.
Speaker C
Milwaukee Bucks are an absolute meltdown. They currently have a 2, 6 record which sits them at the bottom of the East. Giannis Anticapunto is still playing out of.
Speaker B
His skin averaging 31 points per game and 12.9 rebounds per game. The Greek freak will not let this team die quietly.
Speaker C
The Bucs only win so far this season come over the Philadelphia 76ers and the Utah Jazz. The team is ranked 20th in points per game and 29th in assists and their 26th and field goal attempts. Damien can't be faulted too much. The second filler was averaging 28.4 points per game. His move from Portland to the Bucks last season was deemed as a certified.
Speaker B
Championship for the Bucks.
Speaker C
But since Doc Rivers has taken over as head coach, the Bucks have been in free fall and have not been.
Speaker B
Competing at the level they really should be.
Speaker C
Another team that is not competing at the level they should be is the Brooklyn Nets, but this way in a positive manner. A 4 and 4 record after not even making it into the play ins last season, they're currently sat in fourth in the conference. The Nets, after giving away Mikhail Bridges in the summer, were expected to completely.
Speaker B
Tank this season and pick up some valuable trade assets in the draft.
Speaker C
Instead, they're pushing for home court advantage in the playoffs. They currently have seven players averaging more than 8.5 points per game and they even got a notable win over Milwaukee, 115 to 102.
Speaker B
Although despite how bad Milwaukee's been this so far this season, we don't know if that's really an accomplishment. Cam Thomas is leading the line with.
Speaker C
24.9 points per game and Dennis Schroeder.
Speaker B
Is assisting with 7.3 assists per game. Now the Cleveland Cavaliers have run out.
Speaker C
As being the best team so far in the opening stretch of the NBA. They have a 90 record and remain the only team in the league to have not lost a game so far. Donovan Mitchell is averaging 23.8 points per game and is showing just how good.
Speaker B
A player he could have been when he was at Utah.
Speaker C
The team is first in points, sixth in assists, third in steals and first in field goal percentage.
Speaker B
The backcourt is leading the way with Garland also averaging 19.8 points per game.
Speaker C
And five of their players averaging over 10 points per game. The Cavs if the Cavs keep this up, they'll be doing the best they've.
Speaker B
Done since having one LeBron James on their team.
Speaker C
The Cavs are really looking to compete this year and have a really well suited roster and could actually challenge the.
Speaker B
Celtics in the East.
Speaker C
Are the Atlanta Hawks finally repaying Trae Young's loyalty? They currently sit fifth in the conference.
Speaker B
With a four and five lap record. It's worth noting that a losing record in the other conference would have you out of the playoff places.
Speaker C
However, despite that, they do not play in the west, they play in the east, so sit fifth. Trae Young is averaging 23.8 points per game, which is impressive enough. But then you factor in his 10.9.
Speaker B
Assists per game and he's having a great season.
Speaker C
The team overall ranks second in Seals, and they have seven players averaging more than 11 points per game, with three of those averaging more than 18 points per game. It looks like the Hawks might finally.
Speaker B
Be repaying Trae Young's loyalty to them. Well, that's been your recap on the last week of basketball.
Speaker C
We hope to make these shows far.
Speaker B
More regular, but with the election we.
Speaker C
Thought it appropriate to take a quick.
Speaker B
Break and let everyone reconvene afterwards.
