Welcome back to on Texas football. I'm Jeff how joined by Jerry Hamilton and CJ Vogel time for this week's edition of the
spk_0
Recording Breakdown. I'm going to talk about one of Jerry's stops on the road this week. We'll get into Texas. Oh you visitors and more but before we do that Jerry
spk_0
Let him know about our good friend Mark Saunders. Yeah, this is the only insurance agent you'll need man when it comes to protecting all your stuff.
spk_0
Want to be great that one place to protect it all. That's why I'm here. I'm here to talk about Mark Saunders. He's your guy.
spk_0
He serves the Austin and Round Rock area and the entire state of Texas. That means he's the only insurance agent you'll need from that home card boat to your motorcycle RV and an ATV its hunting season. I know you ATVs are out. Call Texas Austin agent Mark Saunders is office today.
spk_0
5122188571 wait 571 you'll be in great hands with the over 35 years of experience that Texas alum and Texas also the agent Mark Saunders brings to the table again.
spk_0
Give him a call today 5122188571. I'll Texas footballs in good hands because Mark Saunders sponsors every edition of the Recording Breakdown. We thank him for that. Jerry, let's get into your visit to watch the hatchet. We've had Cohen Brown on the channel. We talked a lot about him.
spk_0
One thing that I want to I want to start with this. Your tweet yesterday. You had a photo of him at practice and said you've heard from some some college coaches, people in the scouting community. He's getting some Matthew Golden comps, which I find really, really interesting.
spk_0
Yeah, and I anytime that said that doesn't mean they're saying he's going to be a first round pick, right there. But I think that the point of it is is he is a guy who is he plays receiver. He plays corner.
spk_0
He plays Wildcat quarterback. He plays an or a turn game. He's just a baller. Right. But he's got really good hands. He gets in and out of cuts. He shows signs. He's a physical guy.
spk_0
I mean, and I'm not going to say he's under size is 5 1119. He's almost built like a high school tail back. But under size versus, you know, the 6 3215 pound receiver. Right. So, but he plays above that from a physicality standpoint. He's just kind of a lot of want to.
spk_0
I think people the two coaches I've talked to and CJ seen it. You all heard it on the interview with him on the channel. I saw it yesterday. Let me practice to hold. I mean, he didn't come off the field.
spk_0
Like he was at wider receiver Wildcat quarterback. Return game corner. I mean, he did the whole install on defense. And he goes down on offense. He's running a ton of routes.
spk_0
So he just the guy just plays until he cramped. It's like quandary digs. It's like Matthew golden. It's like some of those guys.
spk_0
And if those guys stay healthy in the past, they've gone on to have careers and football. I think coming brown is one of those guys. But I'll say this CJ.
spk_0
How strong he is. It's one thing to be quick. And he's put up the track times. But he is a strong looking kid. Now, I mean, he is well put together. He's 5 11 190. That's the other thing. He told me he'd held his weight since August through August camp.
spk_0
Set Timberton in the first week of October. He's maintained 18890 pounds. He said he was 190 yesterday. So he's been able to maintain that weight. But he's a guy that what's interesting about him.
spk_0
Cohen Brown is he may be able to come in and play early in college because he's physically ready. He's not one of those guys you have to worry about.
spk_0
And saying, OK, well, we got to let him bake for a year and add 15 pounds as frame. That food's going to be 195 pounds. And it's going to be a solid 195 on day one in college.
spk_0
He just got to pick up a system now and learn the nuances.
spk_0
Yeah, I was going to go that exact same route. Jerry his physique matches what you would see in a college. Why receiver immediately. I've told this story on the channel. I think Cohen's even told this story on the channel coaches at walks of hatching the past. I've had to tell him to go home from the weight room in the facility because he just out works himself.
spk_0
So to your point, Jerry, the work ethic is there. And he's built himself from about two years ago when I first saw him. That was not a high level SEC division one wide receiver and credit to Cohen. And this goes back to your point about work ethic.
spk_0
He's built himself into that. I know Matthew golden is a is a confident he gets at times. You also mentioned the Andre more as a guy you could see with his role in this types of offer.
spk_0
Yeah, I want to say another thing I noticed and I should have put this in my store in on Texas football.com. But I for whatever reason it just popped into my head what CJ was talking about.
spk_0
This is why you this is why you go on the road and kind of observe kids.
spk_0
So yesterday after practice, you know, I normally coach pulls the team together, right.
spk_0
And then the coach has a message and the coaches as a system. If they have a message Cohen Brown was sitting front row.
spk_0
Sitting front row. And you know, that's one of those little things that you're like, okay, that goes to football character. All the things we talk about with him.
spk_0
Kids don't always sit front row, right. I mean, that's like saying, okay, this matters to me. What coach what you're saying matters to me. And I'm and I'm going to show you every day how much what you say matters to me and how much my actions mean to this team.
spk_0
Now that guy I liked everything I've seen from Cohen Brown and it really started you know, the tapes one thing, but it really started to interview when he was on with you guys after he committed.
spk_0
Then you saw you saw a little bit about what makes him tick and then you saw it more in person yesterday really impressive.
spk_0
No doubt, Jerry, let's stay real quick with your walks of hatchy visit everybody. This is going to be okay. Jerry went to walks of hatchy. What's the latest with Jake wants now. What is the latest with Jake wants now.
spk_0
Latest is he knocked himself silly after knocking everybody else silly this year. He was not practicing. We'll see if he plays Friday. They're playing Mesquite Horn, but on the recruiting front, the major is so there wasn't, you know, the tape speaks for itself. I mean, that guy's knocking everybody. His helmet and everybody else is coming off the series.
spk_0
He's 6319 is 200 pounds last year is 10 pounds lighter and it's because he had some injury issues in the spring. He had a little bit of a shoulder AC joint issue and then he had a hamstring issue.
spk_0
So he missed a lot of workout time. He missed a lot of weight room time. So he's actually dropped 10 pounds. I'm worried was last year. That didn't change his game. But the other thing is and CJ seen him in person too. He's not even close physically to where he's going to be. That kid's going to be 250 pounds one day.
spk_0
There's very easily a lot of muscle definitions still to be put on to that frame. CJ.
spk_0
Yo, yeah. And my goodness. He has probably one of my favorite wingspan, you know, physical build of anybody in the 27 class. He mirrors Jillani McDonald almost to a tee for me.
spk_0
And he plays with that physicality to your point Jerry. I know that we talk about, you know, earning your helmet, you know, dense and and and scars and whatnot. He is helmet based off of what we've seen on tape this season.
spk_0
There might not be a helmet in the country that are in the state that has as many dings and scarers.
spk_0
They put what he's on.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
spk_0
What?
spk_0
What?
spk_0
What's that?
spk_0
He's the program that they they put the little stickers on the helmet and his stickers are all messed up. You know, that's when you know your physical right is when this when the stickers are messed up and they're kind of pulled off and you know you had a lot of content on the recruiting front.
spk_0
He's going to be a Texas Oklahoma game with Cohen Brown and a couple other players from that squad.
spk_0
I mean, we're going to talk about that later, but the big part and recruiting with Jake on snow is he was at a.m. last weekend. Obviously, he's at Texas owe you this weekend.
spk_0
He's going to Clemson for the SMU game at Clemson October 18th. He says he scheduled to be the big visit though CJ and we're talking off before the show.
spk_0
The big visits to Wimber first. He's going to Ohio State for the Penn State game.
spk_0
And Ohio State's very much a player in this he's going to release a top nine list maybe today, maybe later this week.
spk_0
So that's coming and I obviously Texas Texas a and M both expected to be on that list.
spk_0
But I think you know, the competition is Ohio State. That was the takeaway from being around the program yesterday a little bit and just talking to people is that that's going to be a big visit in this recruitment, I believe.
spk_0
Yeah, it's first time up there by the way.
spk_0
Yeah, Jerry mentioned it. Let's go ahead and get into it Texas owe you and before we get into guys specifically visiting Jerry.
spk_0
I remember the first year you and I put together a visit list for this game was that 2009 season and it became pretty clear.
spk_0
This game it attracts kids from all across the state all across the country, but this game specifically really means a little bit more to kids from the Metroplex and kids from East Texas back then.
spk_0
And I hope it gets back to that point at some point where that is a battleground between Texas and Oklahoma fighting for kids in a Metroplex and East Texas.
spk_0
Yeah, obviously the move to the SEC kind of changed the world in Texas and then NIL.
spk_0
But I still think this game carries a lot of meaning and when you know, I was thinking I mentioned on cop in football Tuesday morning.
spk_0
The game I was at the 34 30 Oklahoma wind Dylan Gabriel game, you know before walking down in the stands before that game that was in Xavier Phil Semy showed up the day Texas offered him and I was like, whoa.
spk_0
He's just here with the teammates and then I did a little digging. I was like, no, that's not what's going on here.
spk_0
And you know, bow Barnes was there. Parker Livingston was there. I mean, you just go down the list. And I mean, there were a ton of DFW area guys at that game in Texas is the host school this year.
spk_0
And this game does have meaning. I mean, it's weird because and it doesn't mean Texas and Oklahoma are going to win all these recruitment.
spk_0
That's not the way recruiting is anymore. It's changed, but that game does have meaning for kids in Dallas.
spk_0
You know, just to hate this is kind of their game. And for years and years, part of this is kind of our game make kids want to play in that game.
spk_0
Now, I know we're in a different place now, but I do think that still benefits Texas and Oklahoma as long as they're winning.
spk_0
You have to be winning for any of this to benefit you, but I still think it carries meaning maybe not as much meaning as it used to.
spk_0
But this is an opportunity for Texas and Oklahoma both whoever the host school is to bring kids into a game environment that maybe can only be matched by one or two others.
spk_0
And that still does matter somewhat in today's transactional recruiting world. It may not mean the same thing it used to, but it still has meaning.
spk_0
And by the way, we've seen recruitment shift in this game. I mean, Colton Vossick was committed to Oklahoma.
spk_0
And that changed that day by and large. I think it was edited there anyways, but that game helped speed that process up.
spk_0
No, no, CJ, let's go ahead and get into the visitor list. We're we mentioned a couple of the commits that are going to be there.
spk_0
Who else do you have on this visitor list? The people need to be looking out for.
spk_0
Yeah, I think a big one. Obviously is KV and Brian expected to make the trip up the Dallas for this game quarterback got a Palestinian Westwood look.
spk_0
Texas Tech is big player in this game and his recruitment at the moment. Texas looking to at least put another performance on the field in front of him as well.
spk_0
As far as some guys from DFW Julian called well big time. I've received a ride at a hard guy. He was on campus.
spk_0
He's earned his offer on the June 1st elite camp. It's some defensive backs. Jerry, you mentioned Jake wants now go right down the road to North prairie and fats Houston to 2027 defensive back and 20.
spk_0
It's 27 corner back Jerry outhouse will both be on campus. Excuse me. At the fairgrounds this weekend for this game as well.
spk_0
So Texas trying to take care of that DFW area as you mentioned. And it's interesting to see if anybody surprising will pop up.
spk_0
Now when one other name 2028 defensive lineman Kingston Rogers new name on the scene. He will be on at the fairgrounds for this game as well.
spk_0

spk_0
Jerry I want to since we're on the topic of Texas. Oh you I just want to mention this real quick you know what Texas and oh you went to the SEC part of me kind of got a little nostalgic and thought well maybe this will go back to maybe the old big 12 South days when if there's big time recruits in the state of Texas is Texas Oklahoma and a and M fighting it out for prospects.
spk_0
Is this just reinforcement Jerry that those days are probably gone and not coming back just too much has changed since then.
spk_0
Yeah I do I think there's so much has changed in college athletics has changed so much right I mean it's a we're not we're way past the day and age of you know there's some people that still want Texas to recruit only a team of Texas players are 95% of Texas players and I just those days are over and kids so many people have moved into this state may move into Georgia.
spk_0
These kids just they're not growing up the same way is they did may it may really stop may me or change Jeff in round 2010 2012 in that area so many people have moved into the DFW so many people have moved into Houston into the state of Texas.
spk_0
They didn't grow up with an understanding of a Texas Texas an M rivalry Texas oh you game and kind of the meaning that had that that game had so much meaning for families and parents for so long and so many talented athletes kids have end up being talented athletes and moved into this state just don't have that in their background so while it's you go to the game and you still understand it you still understand
spk_0
while this is an amazing environment and this is a cool place to be it's still not the same when you said nostalgic a lot of the parents of these kids are nostalgic with Texas oh you with that what that game meant growing up in Dallas when they played high school football you know or athletics and we're not there college athletics is just too different now but I do believe this I still believe that if you put on a good show around the great rival.
spk_0
It matters I mean it Matt there's kids from the state of Florida they'll go up to the Michigan Ohio State game and say that was so different than anything I have down here and they've been the Florida Florida state now it's different because they didn't grow up up there right and so it's a different feeling you have a chance to them truly impressed through this game where home games nowadays to me or about creating a concert environment with really good football this is not one of those this is different at the cotton bowl so
spk_0
that that you still it's different but you still have a you still have a chance to capture minds and hearts through this game a little bit but maybe just not the level you used to because maybe the parents of some of these athletes that have moved into this state didn't end up being really good they don't have that history with it in the parents history with this does matter and recurring.
spk_0
CJ I'll ask you this you know with Texas coming into this game with a three and two record you're about to hit the halfway point of the season this in your opinion how much does the result or the style of play game flow matter for recruiting what happens on Saturday.
spk_0
Yeah I think it's huge you know you face adversity what do you show on the field what kind of heart do you show what kind of culture do you have in that locker room that can come to light and prove to these recruits and Texas fans alike that this team still cares that this team can fight through whatever they face early in the season any time that you have recruits on campus they're going to notice things Jerry you talked about this point they're going to notice things that are different from just making a tackle they're going to notice you know how do the teammates come off the sidelines after a big play how do you do that.
spk_0
What do they greet each other after a sacked or a touchdown or how do they pick each other up after throwing an interception or allowing a touchdown they're going to notice that especially in an environment like this where momentum switches just so often that's where your culture is really on display that's when that camaraderie is at its highest so that's one thing that I'm excited to see from a Texas perspective but also Texas needs to be aware of that as well when it comes to hosting these recruits in this neutral site game that matters recruits.
spk_0
There's many more things many more things than what the common fancies on a broadcaster whatnot so for this weekend specifically with Texas three into another considered the favor right now but all together this is again they cannot lose and for a number of reasons it moves into the future as well.
spk_0
Jerry anything to add there no I think it's a great point and look this stuff really for 26 I'm not sure how much this matters right I mean it when Xavier Phil sent Phil some he showed up at the cotton bowl the reason Texas is able to flip him is because people that were around the they were committed the Florida they lost multiple guys were not making that class for worry that Billy Napier might not make it right but the CJ's point this stuff matters for the young guys the young guys.
spk_0
The one's like the 27 the 28 guys who are here at the game here I'm in Dallas but they're at the game Saturday the one CJ said I think is a hundred percent on point that those are things young athletes notice like we talk about is the fans talk about things in the losses the wins and losses affect the fans more than the recruits what the recruits are looking at is the players the interactions the energy I mean you know the
spk_0
positive environment the way a team reacts to good and bad I mean those things are what it's very interesting when you talk to a kid a young kid about what they're looking for and compare it to a 35 year old fan in the way they
spk_0
emotionally react to a game a winner loss it's two totally different things but that but I think what CJ said is a hundred hundred percent correct.
spk_0
No doubt will we'll wrap it up here on the other side one more time Jerry let remind everybody to our favorite all state agent is.
spk_0
Texas all state agent Mark Saunders serves the Austin and Round Rock area and the entire state of Texas he's the only insurance agent you'll need with over 35 years of experience the on Texas football guarantee we will provide to you as you'll be in great hands with Texas alum Mark Saunders give him a call today five one two two and eight eight five seven one.
spk_0
All right Jerry I know you get some basketball notes to wrap it up but before that CJ any final thoughts.
spk_0
Yeah Brock Williams 2027 one of the top tight ends in the country at a Libertyville dropped a top three with the Longhorns included Ohio State also in that fold as well that was a school that we had certainly been aware of being perhaps the leader for Brock Williams earlier in his recruitment but the Longhorns have stuck around there right now in that top three with Ohio State.
spk_0
As well as the Georgia Bulldog so one of the top tight ends in the 27 class sections right there in the thick of it.
spk_0
Jerry before you get to these hoops notes I just want to remind everybody make sure you get on the channel check out our interview with Sean Miller Jerry conducted that last week so if you want to get ready for some Texas basketball that'll get you in the mood of almost a half hour of hoops talk with coach Miller and we do appreciate him for the time on that Jerry hoops notes to close us out.
spk_0
Yeah so the Bogdan obviously committed to Texas recently and that was a that was one of those must win recruitments that you know Purdue and Tennessee gave it a great run produced a great job recruiting Boogdan son of Texas GM and former final four player Chris Ogden now tech Sean Miller in the staff are really turning their attention not that they're not recruiting multiple guys right but it's it's been Austin Goosby and it's been Cameron Williams and now with Booggan the boat they can really turn the boat back to the
spk_0
air tension there with Ogden's recruitment now concluded Austin Goosby is done with the official visit process I still believe this comes down the Texas Duke the BYU the 13 there and you look if I was if you push maybe say push your chips at a table I'm I'm not going to really go against some of his names Austin his brothers starting a left tackle at Texas whose mom graduated from Texas probably not but I will say this Duke is very formidable.
spk_0
That's a this is a real recruitment is a big recruitment for Sean Miller because there are there are a lot of kids that love Duke and want to go to Duke there's very few where the battles real in recruiting and this battle is real with Duke Duke is all in they've tried to get you to be back on campus a second time I don't think that's going to happen prior to a decision I think he'll have a decision before the end of the month and I think Texas and Duke are battling this one out BYU probably has to may have the biggest NIL package there are actually a lot of people who are going to be in the
spk_0
back there to their very serious about their basketball and they got a great offensive coach and then on Cameron Williams you know he hasn't been discussed as much as from Phoenix St Mary's
spk_0
and going into the Texas visit I I pushed much on this because I was like well let's see what happens here he's ranked top five in America's the future lottery pick a 6 11 skill power for who who can really shoot the basketball but all the Intel I'm gathering right now is and he was at Duke last week and a saying this is Texas Arizona and maybe Duke.
spk_0
So and Arizona obviously the home school I think they should get the last official visit I think he was the USC this weekend then Arizona but Texas is right there and he's ranked top five in the country Austin goose be obviously a five store ranked top 25 in the country but Texas is in it for very much in it for two of the best prospects in the country and if they if both of them went that their way Texas I have a three man high school class I mean and there's still a possibility you could bring in a fourth as a developmental player who would be scholarship four
spk_0
fourteen or fifteen but that guy would have to pass up some mid major D1 offers and have a chance to play right away versus going to a place to Texas get in the education knowing you're not going to play for a while but it really the focus is Austin goose be in Cameron Williams moving for and we'll see this Texas win one of those actually win both of those Sean Miller's off to really good start recruiting at Texas the all the returns from you know I've been a few
spk_0
fall league tournaments are you tournaments the returns are all really positive about Sean Miller and his staff and obviously normally hear that when people are hard but in this case I believe it Jeff we need to reach on Miller I think he's I think the guys tremendous coach but the returns from the AAU circles the parents that they're recruiting are all very positive right now and we'll see what happens with Austin goose be and Cameron Williams no that Jerry C.J. Thank you guys for the knowledge and expertise as always and
