We are not speaking the same language.
spk_0
And if we can be patient with each other
spk_0
and learn how to speak each other's language,
spk_0
I don't think you could touch us.
spk_0
I have a lot of masculine energy or like,
spk_0
directness and so they have this guard up
spk_0
when I'm not spoken to in this like a baby chick.
spk_0
You know, our therapist says,
spk_0
you gotta be the baby chick if you want him to treat you
spk_0
like the baby chick.
spk_0
But I'm like, but I am the baby chick,
spk_0
shouldn't he know that he should just...
spk_0
He shouldn't know anything.
spk_0
Be the baby chick.
spk_0
You have to teach him.
spk_0
And you have to teach her what works and what doesn't.
spk_0
Oh, dead animal is an American actress.
spk_0
She is known for various roles in film and television,
spk_0
including Dr. Jessica Adams in the Medical Drama Series House.
spk_0
I never thought I struggled in school,
spk_0
but now looking back, I really struggled.
spk_0
I would read books and my brain would just start going.
spk_0
And then I'd finish the book and then I'd say,
spk_0
well, hell, I don't even know what I read.
spk_0
But I've always been really scattered.
spk_0
I bounce.
spk_0
I feel like I'm a squirrel.
spk_0
And at the end of it, I'm so frustrated
spk_0
because I feel like I could be doing so much more.
spk_0
And I feel like I have so much potential,
spk_0
but there's a cap to what I'm able to do
spk_0
and it's so frustrating.
spk_0

spk_0
Well, welcome to an incredible episode,
spk_0
change your brain every day.
spk_0
We're gonna do family spans today.
spk_0
And I'm with two really incredible actors
spk_0
and parents, Dave and our dad, Annabelle.
spk_0
And you're gonna like this episode.
spk_0
Stay with us.
spk_0
So tell me your goal.
spk_0
I'm so interested in total brain health
spk_0
and it started when I noticed some differences
spk_0
in my daughter's brain that I was so desperate to fix, right?
spk_0
And for me, I've just been going down a path
spk_0
of how to best help her succeed.
spk_0
And of course, I've completely forgotten about myself
spk_0
in the process.
spk_0
And I'm just so fascinated to learn about our brains
spk_0
as a couple, as individuals, learn more about Charlie's brain
spk_0
and kind of incorporate all of the things that we learn here
spk_0
and take it back home and really just,
spk_0
you know, we care so much and we love so hard,
spk_0
but I think we can just do so much better
spk_0
about understanding how we work
spk_0
and what's ticking up here.
spk_0
So I'm just so thrilled that I'm here.
spk_0
And to be like less reactive.
spk_0
I'm sorry.
spk_0
And to be less reactive.
spk_0
He's trying to make a joke, but it's about me right now.
spk_0
Thank you.
spk_0
When do you find yourself reacting?
spk_0
Whenever he makes comments like that.
spk_0
Does he poke you?
spk_0
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
spk_0
Do you have my book, Healing ADD?
spk_0
No, I need to.
spk_0
There's a chapter in it called the Games ADD People Play.
spk_0
And the first game they play is, let's have a problem.
spk_0
Oh, wow.
spk_0
I know more about this than I want to.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Yeah, I love women who have ADD.
spk_0
I do not know what it is with me.
spk_0
But my first wife had ADD.
spk_0
And I just began to notice those traits in my patients.
spk_0
I'm like, why are you picking on him?
spk_0
And then I think why are she picking on me?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And I have six children, but Caitlin was high.
spk_0
I'm a hyperactive from before birth.
spk_0
And when she was little, she still run up to her brother.
spk_0
Kick him as hard as she could.
spk_0
And then run away.
spk_0
Lap it.
spk_0
Oh, amazing.
spk_0
And if he didn't chase her, she'd go kick him again.
spk_0
He'd write, right?
spk_0
It was just a conflict.
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
It's just poke, poke, poke.
spk_0
Yeah, it's almost like that dopamine hit that you get.
spk_0
I get, I mostly get reactive when I'm critiqued.
spk_0
I would say.
spk_0
Do you think that's right?
spk_0
For me, but also with the children.
spk_0
Sure.
spk_0
I run a little hog.
spk_0
spk_0
That's all things fault.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Tell me when you first thought you might have ADD.
spk_0
Well, I didn't think that was never even a thought
spk_0
in my brain up until probably five or six years ago.
spk_0
I never thought I struggled in school,
spk_0
but now looking back,
spk_0
I really struggled.
spk_0
I was a hard working A, B student,
spk_0
but I had to work really hard.
spk_0
I mean, I would read books and my brain would just start going.
spk_0
And then I'd finish the book and then I'd say,
spk_0
well, hell, I don't even know what I read.
spk_0
And so I started seeing these patterns as I grew up
spk_0
that I couldn't really retain.
spk_0
It was hard for me to retain information.
spk_0
My memory, I mean, even as I've gotten older,
spk_0
I feel like has started to go.
spk_0
And I used to have great memory.
spk_0
So up until probably five, I would say five or six years ago,
spk_0
but I've always been really scattered.
spk_0
I've never been able, I bounce.
spk_0
I feel like I'm a squirrel, you know?
spk_0
Like, there's...
spk_0
I saw this squirrel coming.
spk_0
It is just, I can't.
spk_0
I'll go into a room.
spk_0
I'll get everything done.
spk_0
I can be very productive, but I bounce around.
spk_0
I mean, if you could see the zig-zags that I do all day long.
spk_0
And at the end of it, I'm so frustrated
spk_0
because I feel like I could be doing so much more...
spk_0
And I feel like I have so much potential,
spk_0
but there's a cap to what I'm able to do,
spk_0
and it's so frustrating.
spk_0
OK, I'm like a squirrel.
spk_0
I wrote that down.
spk_0
Brains, hog, tires.
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
Especially the last two years.
spk_0
Worse with your cycle.
spk_0
Yeah, rage.
spk_0
The week before, like, you can't say anything to me.
spk_0
Obviously not him, forget about it, but just like,
spk_0
road rage.
spk_0
I mean, like, if anybody cuts me off,
spk_0
I'm just like, why are you so angry?
spk_0
It's a long haul.
spk_0
Do you have your hormones tested?
spk_0
Yes, I'm in the process of doing that.
spk_0
You know, nothing is too too elevated.
spk_0
Some things were kind of trying to manage,
spk_0
but I tried testosterone.
spk_0
My hair was falling out.
spk_0
Was your testosterone low?
spk_0
A little on the lower side.
spk_0
It wasn't alarming, but it was on the lower side.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I make something called brameteen max.
spk_0
Yeah, give it to me.
spk_0
That can help naturally.
spk_0
Yeah, I'll take it.
spk_0
I'll take all the things, really.
spk_0
Those are for you.
spk_0
What's your goal with Dave?
spk_0
In our marriage?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I think if we could nail one thing,
spk_0
I think we would be smooth cruising and its communication.
spk_0
We are not speaking the same language.
spk_0
And if we can be patient with each other
spk_0
and learn how to speak each other's language,
spk_0
I don't think you could touch us.
spk_0
I mean, we're...
spk_0
So what's the goal?
spk_0
Articulate a goal for me.
spk_0
I give you mine.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
Connection.
spk_0
I always have this goal.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
100% of the time.
spk_0
I don't always feel like, but I always have.
spk_0
And so then I filter everything I say
spk_0
and everything I do through with Tana,
spk_0
one of kind Karen, loving, supportive, passionate relationship.
spk_0
I want that 100% of the time.
spk_0
But rude thoughts show up.
spk_0
Her me is like your bitch.
spk_0
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
spk_0
I've got worse.
spk_0
Yep.
spk_0
And up.
spk_0
And less I'm drunk and I don't drink.
spk_0
That's right.
spk_0
That thought never gets out.
spk_0
spk_0
Just show up.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That aren't helpful.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And I'm like,
spk_0
Oh, you could criticize her.
spk_0
I'm like, she doesn't do well with criticism.
spk_0
No, I don't.
spk_0
I'm not going to get the passionate burden of what I want.
spk_0
That's right.
spk_0
If I'm critical.
spk_0
That's right.
spk_0
Because she grew up in trauma.
spk_0
There's, she's sensitive.
spk_0
Mm-hmm.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
That's the thing.
spk_0
I'm actually quite sensitive.
spk_0
But I present myself as this like,
spk_0
I have a lot of masculine energy or like directness.
spk_0
And so they're, you know, it's like you almost I have this guard up when I'm not spoken to in this like like a baby chick, you know,
spk_0
Or therapist says, you know, like you got to drop the dragon.
spk_0
You got to be the baby chick.
spk_0
If you want him to treat you like the baby chick.
spk_0
But I'm like, but I am the baby chick shouldn't you know that he should just.
spk_0
He shouldn't know anything.
spk_0
Be the baby chick.
spk_0
But you have to teach him.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
And you have to teach her.
spk_0
What works and what doesn't.
spk_0
Because what what are the top two things you do.
spk_0
The piss him off.
spk_0
I'll walk away.
spk_0
So maybe like a form of abandonment.
spk_0
He's don't want.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Sure.
spk_0
Do you know, gotman's work.
spk_0
It's great.
spk_0
If you don't know John gotman.
spk_0
I've heard his podcast before and he's so great.
spk_0
He's so great.
spk_0
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
I do that.
spk_0
And yeah, I'll shut down.
spk_0
If he it's just.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
So that's one.
spk_0
Tell me the second one.
spk_0
Walk away.
spk_0
And I'll shut down in the middle of the conversation.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
Is that is that what it is?
spk_0
You're looking at.
spk_0
Well, I'm asking.
spk_0
I don't know.
spk_0
I went in for me.
spk_0
What are the two things you do that bring him close to you?
spk_0
When I'm vulnerable.
spk_0
And when I'm able to communicate my feelings without being reactive.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
So I just want to.
spk_0
Back to the goal.
spk_0
What's the goal with him?
spk_0
Connection.
spk_0
Gentle kindness, passion, connection, healthy communication.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
How much control do you have over him?
spk_0
None.
spk_0
And how much control do you have over you?
spk_0
Everything.
spk_0
I mean, I'd like to have more control over things.
spk_0
But I have this acronym I like when I teach relationships.
spk_0
It's relating and the R is responsibility.
spk_0
And it's not about blame.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And if you actually came from a story that Tana told me,
spk_0
she grew up in crazy.
spk_0
Her uncle was murdered in a drug deal.
spk_0
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So one of her first memories.
spk_0
And the guy responsible for that was her other uncle who.
spk_0
And he was trying to kill himself went to jail.
spk_0
He was a mess.
spk_0
Years later, he's teaching for Jack Canfield.
spk_0
And Tana has thyroid cancer.
spk_0
And she goes to Hawaii where he's teaching.
spk_0
And Bobby asks, how much responsibility do you want for your situation?
spk_0
She goes, it's cancer.
spk_0
It's not my fault.
spk_0
He goes, I didn't ask you about blame.
spk_0
Responsibility is just your ability to respond to the situation.
spk_0
You want 50%, you want 100%.
spk_0
She goes, oh, I want 100%.
spk_0
And so when you know what you want, you just got to ask yourself,
spk_0
it's money behavior getting me what I want.
spk_0
Because the only one I'm responsible for is myself for sure.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And both of you, because you've been married, how long?
spk_0
It'll be 15 years October 10.
spk_0
So there's all sorts of memories and trauma.
spk_0
Oh, you know, when your emotional brain is busy.
spk_0
And both of you are 22 when we met.
spk_0
Both of you's emotional friends are busy.
spk_0
You can filter things through negativity in the past.
spk_0
And I want you to focus on what you like more than what you thought.
spk_0
Oh, yeah.
spk_0
That's great.
spk_0
Is the goal, kindness, compassion, communication, connection?
spk_0
Okay, if I say that, and I'm I getting what I want.
spk_0
Because both of you, what you want, I would bat this goodness.
spk_0
Right?
spk_0
You want a family that works and you want careers that soar.
spk_0
You want help.
spk_0
And so it's not selfish.
spk_0
A lot of people got all that selfish.
spk_0
It's like, well, what do you want?
spk_0
And is your behavior getting you what you want?
spk_0
Definitely not.
spk_0
Probably need a workable one.
spk_0
And so that is in my mind, it's the most freeing thing.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
The most empowering thing is I know I could go home right now and screw it up.
spk_0
I get her to yell at me in under 20 seconds, maybe under 10.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Right?
spk_0
From condescending.
spk_0
Uh-huh.
spk_0
Oh, yeah.
spk_0
By little her.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
By make her feel small.
spk_0
Yeah, criticize.
spk_0
She'll bite me.
spk_0
Yep.
spk_0
I can bite.
spk_0
I've got a good bite.
spk_0
And if you're in a vulnerable time of your cycle, right?
spk_0
The ants.
spk_0
Oh, yeah.
spk_0
Or in charge.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But then that's, it's like, oh, no.
spk_0
I'm responsible for my success.
spk_0
Yeah, I have control.
spk_0
I have control.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I need to work on the control part.
spk_0
That's for sure.
spk_0
Cuban blood.
spk_0
That's perfect timing.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
She drinks it for breakfast.
spk_0
A little bit loud, Ty.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Back pain.
spk_0
Did you know that physical and emotional pain run on the same circuits in the brain?
spk_0
And they fuel each other to keep you in pain.
spk_0
In my new book, Change Your Brain, Change Your Pain.
spk_0
I'll show you how to break free from what I call the doom load and step into a healing
spk_0
loop that can transform your life.
spk_0
Less pain, more joy.
spk_0
It's absolutely possible.

spk_0
When you have, when you feel back pain, if you feel it for more than a few weeks, it's
spk_0
burning circuits in your brain.
spk_0
Oh my gosh.
spk_0
And you have to get your brain healthy in order to get rid of the pain.
spk_0
I had dinner with my cardiologist six months ago.
spk_0
He's scheduled for surgery because he had back pain for four years.
spk_0
Really?
spk_0
And because he had an abnormal MRI.
spk_0
Your MRI is not that abnormal.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
But showed.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Do you know how many people your age have abnormal back MRIs?
spk_0
Right in the middle.
spk_0
Right in the middle of 40.
spk_0
40%?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
My 70%.
spk_0
Damn.
spk_0
People have abnormal MRIs who have no pain.
spk_0
40%.
spk_0
Really?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That was the big aha for me.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
It's like it's not the MRI.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
It's the chronic stress.
spk_0
You're under.
spk_0
A little tiny bit of apural.
spk_0
And I would probably argue it's a tiny bit because it's not quite right.
spk_0
spk_0
And you just start.
spk_0
And the Xanax.
spk_0
spk_0
I'd lose the Xanax.
spk_0
It increases your lifespan.
spk_0
Yeah, that was kind of a habit that just became.
spk_0
I don't even know if I necessarily need it.
spk_0
It was just something like, oh, you know, when you're like, oh, I don't know if I'll
spk_0
be able to sleep if I don't take it.
spk_0
Or if I'm working, I'm like, I need to sleep.
spk_0
Okay, let me just take a little bit.
spk_0
And I don't think I make something called put me to sleep.
spk_0
That's stupid.
spk_0
The hypnosis sleep audio is great.
spk_0
Great.
spk_0
I get notes from people all over the world love going to bed with you.
spk_0
Yeah, perfect.
spk_0
You have great blood flow.
spk_0
Oh, you're brand.
spk_0
I don't have any labs on you.
spk_0
Mom with breast cancer.
spk_0
I did send labs over though.
spk_0
You did?
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
I have to haven't seen them.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
You're a motor vehicle accident.
spk_0
Yes.
spk_0
I don't see it.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
Drinking much now.
spk_0
Not as much as, you know, I've never been a solo drinker, you know, not really at home,
spk_0
but socially for, you know, the whole time basically that we were in Hollywood.
spk_0
It was just pretty heavy drinking.
spk_0
I mean, events and parties and whatever.
spk_0
And for the last five years, I would say it's gone down a lot, but certainly in the
spk_0
last four months, I just can't do.
spk_0
It's just not worth it.
spk_0
It's the hangovers for me are...
spk_0
Well, you hurt yourself, please.
spk_0
Well, yeah, there's a...
spk_0
Yeah, physically hurt.
spk_0
Say that again.
spk_0
I got in a golf car accident.
spk_0
I was drinking.
spk_0
I wasn't driving, but my best friend was.
spk_0
And then I, on my 40th birthday, I sprained my ankle pretty badly.
spk_0
And it's all alcohol related.
spk_0
It's just stupid.
spk_0
It doesn't make me feel good.
spk_0
It feels like the worst poison ever.
spk_0
The next morning, I'm miserable.
spk_0
And it's a two to three day deal.
spk_0
It's not even, you know, oh my gosh, I'm hungover for a few hours.
spk_0
And then I get on with my day.
spk_0
I'm depressed.
spk_0
I'm anxious.
spk_0
It's not it for me.
spk_0
One or two drinks, but the problem is I'm so hard.
spk_0
I'm just driving my life.
spk_0
My clinical life.
spk_0
It's not.
spk_0
Kill it.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
No thanks.
spk_0
Okay, I have a question for both of you.
spk_0
One of the things that really irritates me when I watch telegramsion, why is there always
spk_0
alcohol?
spk_0
Yeah, oh yeah, always.
spk_0
It's like, what's the deal?
spk_0
Is it because Anis or Bush is sponsoring the show?
spk_0
Well, I bet you.
spk_0
You know, yeah, I know.
spk_0
Yeah, yeah.
spk_0
Props, it's almost immediate.
spk_0
Like they have to ask you.
spk_0
They come up to you and they say, what do you want to drink in the scene?
spk_0
Do you want like some whiskey?
spk_0
Do you want a glass of wine?
spk_0
Do you want to beer?
spk_0
It's almost immediate.
spk_0
But why?
spk_0
Because it prevents through society.
spk_0
And so now our children just think that's normal.
spk_0
Yeah, for sure.
spk_0
No, it's got to stop.
spk_0
The problem is I really do enjoy drinking.
spk_0
And I'm a very fun drinker.
spk_0
But it's not worth it.
spk_0
Well, you're following out drinking.
spk_0
Does it love you back?
spk_0
Obviously not.
spk_0
No, it kills me.
spk_0
The first one loves you.
spk_0
The second one loves me too.
spk_0
The second one's not what you want you to engage in behaviors you love that love you.
spk_0
Yeah, that's right.
spk_0
That's right.
spk_0
Because I want you to think about it.
spk_0
If I can get into that sort of, what's the right word?
spk_0
Cognitive dissonance.
spk_0
Part of your brain.
spk_0
So when you see alcohol or you see marijuana, you actually see poison.
spk_0
You're like, no, I like myself more than that.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
No, I don't.
spk_0
I mean, there are a lot of things I like that are deadly for me.
spk_0
Yeah, definitely.
spk_0
No, I've started to switch my outlook on alcohol.
spk_0
And when I see it now, I'm like, I don't know about you.
spk_0
Well, and I think seeing the future is good.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Stress.
spk_0
Absolutely.
spk_0
Juggling a lot.
spk_0
Sandwich generation.
spk_0
Parents just move to your community.
spk_0
And they're going to.
spk_0
They're going.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So you have that.
spk_0
And then you have.
spk_0
Yeah, my uncle just passed away.
spk_0
My mom's just had a, you know, it's just been, yeah, it's been a lot.
spk_0
Grinding.
spk_0
Do you wear a mouth guard?
spk_0
No.
spk_0
No, I have been told I do grind, but I don't.
spk_0
And I've been recommended one, but.
spk_0
How often do you see your dentist?
spk_0
One, say every six months or a year.
spk_0
He didn't say anything.
spk_0
He doesn't say anything.
spk_0
No.
spk_0
And you don't have any job pain.
spk_0
No.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
Ooh, a lot of red.
spk_0
A lot of red.
spk_0
I shit talking to you.
spk_0
Oh my.
spk_0
I really went in so confident and I started doing the test.
spk_0
I was like, I'm an idiot.
spk_0
So that's negative self-time.
spk_0
I know.
spk_0
It's just the truth.
spk_0
That was a labeling.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I'm an idiot.
spk_0
Yeah, labeling.
spk_0
I'm really going to recognize him faces, but you recognize negative faces faster.
spk_0
Oh, yeah.
spk_0
Oh, oh.
spk_0
So faster.
spk_0
spk_0
Oh, God.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
What was it like growing up?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Where did you grow?
spk_0
Near Riverside here in California.
spk_0
I mean, I have such a loving family.
spk_0
I mean, but I was, I did beauty pageants when I was young.
spk_0
I was thrown into the industry when I was four years old.
spk_0
I, you know, had perfectionism had to be perfect, you know, that whole thing.
spk_0
I'm so sorry.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
Is that too much to me?
spk_0
No.
spk_0
I was a, it's all about me.
spk_0
I'm married to it.
spk_0
I'm married to it.
spk_0
No, no, it's great.
spk_0
She is beautiful and smart.
spk_0
I'm not feeling bad for you at all.
spk_0
Thank you.
spk_0
No, she cares.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
She wants to do the right thing.
spk_0
No, it's the beauty pageant thing when you're young.
spk_0
Because it sets you up to be perfect to be any good at all.
spk_0
It sets you up like the worst things.
spk_0
Why hate the Olympics?
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I hate the Olympics because you have to win.
spk_0
spk_0
And you have to be the best and beauty pageants have to be the best.
spk_0
Oh, yeah.
spk_0
And that's a prescription for misery.
spk_0
Because when you have to be better than other people, it separates you from them.
spk_0
spk_0
Now, when you have to be your best, well, then you can help other people be their best
spk_0
and then that's in a court.
spk_0
Close it.
spk_0
And so like with Julius Randall, it's like every day you win or you want, right?
spk_0
You're going to be your best because when you have to be the best,
spk_0
when you're competing against Michael Jordan and...
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That's all.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That's misery.
spk_0
That's right.
spk_0
But when they played the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs,
spk_0
he guarded LeBron and he did great.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So, you're best, right?
spk_0
Right.
spk_0
You either win or you learn.
spk_0
But you can see why that would then lead.
spk_0
Fish is for you.
spk_0
And that's probably what explains that.
spk_0
If you get your feelings or it tends to stuck, probably more.
spk_0
Stress is a big issue for you.
spk_0
Not terribly anxious or depressed.
spk_0
Your long-term memory is good.
spk_0
Focus, not awesome.
spk_0
Planning is okay.
spk_0
Processing speed a little bit slower.
spk_0
I'm worried about this flexibility.
spk_0
Ooh, talk to me about that.
spk_0
You won things to go sort of win and as they don't.
spk_0
You get upset.
spk_0
I'm going to teach you a rule.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
It's called the Rule of 12.
spk_0
Shit happens.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
I was taking talent to Paris for her 50th birthday,
spk_0
seven years ago.
spk_0
And I just noticed we go on vacation
spk_0
and something bad would happen.
spk_0
Well, like, we're one two days.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And I'm like, shit happens.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
12 things are gonna go wrong.
spk_0
Let's promise ourselves we're not gonna get upset
spk_0
until the 13 things are gone.
spk_0
Oh, that's great.
spk_0
And then we can scream, we can yell, we can act badly.
spk_0
Three things went wrong.
spk_0
Nobody was upset the whole time.
spk_0
I came home and I posted the Rule of 12.
spk_0
So that's like 10 million views or something.
spk_0
It's based on this concept of psychological health
spk_0
goes with flexibility, cognitive flexibility.
spk_0
When you were pushed to be perfect
spk_0
and it had to deal with your lots at such a young age,
spk_0
so bad for your brain.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But you can change it.
spk_0
There's not one thing about your brain
spk_0
that we can't make that better.
spk_0
Great.
spk_0
I'm in.
spk_0
Let's do it.
spk_0
It's time.
spk_0
Gummy's.
spk_0
It's short term memory not good,
spk_0
but I think these two things go together.
spk_0
Your conscious negativity bias is 33.
spk_0
Means it could be better.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
Flexible.
spk_0
Negative.
spk_0
Flexibility and being more positive.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And I see people that are here all the time.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
So it's not awful, but it's not awesome.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
So when you wake up, I want you to go today
spk_0
it's gonna be a great day.
spk_0
And then I want you focused on the little miracles
spk_0
happen every day.
spk_0
No, I know that.
spk_0
What's the smallest thing I love?
spk_0
And felt this something like for me,
spk_0
it's like I made brain healthy out of chocolate
spk_0
every night for my family.
spk_0
I just love the first place.
spk_0
And Tana literally had a hummingbird on her hand yesterday
spk_0
but just seeing them are seen
spk_0
because butterfly season where I live.
spk_0
I want you to.
spk_0
And then when you go to bed at night,
spk_0
I want you to do a very specific exercise.
spk_0
I want you to go, what went well today.
spk_0
And I want you to start at the beginning of your day,
spk_0
go hour by hour,
spk_0
only looking for what you love.
spk_0
Now the bad stuff will show up.
spk_0
Sure.
spk_0
And I'm like, at the point, sweep it away.
spk_0
And go back to what went well.
spk_0
And once you put yourself to sleep with that.
spk_0
That's great.
spk_0
Because on a move this over it.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
If we get it in the green.
spk_0
And do you know my friend, Byron Katie,
spk_0
she has a couple of great books,
spk_0
loving what is great book.
spk_0
She always says, argue with reality.
spk_0
Welcome to hell.
spk_0
And when you have a challenging child
spk_0
argue with reality, what?
spk_0
But that's not good for any body.
spk_0
Right?
spk_0
So it's like, okay, this is what we have.
spk_0
What are we going to do?
spk_0
That's right.
spk_0
That's right.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
That's great.
spk_0
All right.
spk_0
We went over these.
spk_0
This is your scan.
spk_0
That's great looking.
spk_0
Smooth.
spk_0
Wow.
spk_0
That's pretty.
spk_0
Wow.
spk_0
That's pretty.
spk_0
It is pretty.
spk_0
Wow.
spk_0
I'd want to keep it.
spk_0
Now, this little thing here may have been the car accident.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
Wacked you
spk_0
in the back right side.
spk_0
If I was you, I would want to keep this.
spk_0
Yeah, I want to take a picture and frame it.
spk_0
Yeah, I'm going to give you a copy.
spk_0
spk_0
Here's how Bellom's a little sleepy.
spk_0
I actually think this is where the EDD is like.
spk_0
Because I think if I scanned you on the Adderall,
spk_0
that would pop up.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
But your anxiety centers probably pop up too with it,
spk_0
which is why you only take 2.5.
spk_0
Because if you take more,
spk_0
do you notice you get a little racy?
spk_0
Yeah, but when I do take it,
spk_0
it is like my world opens up.
spk_0
Everything looks brighter.
spk_0
I can focus.
spk_0
I can get shit done.
spk_0
And have you tried other things?
spk_0
No, no.
spk_0
So I think both of you think of it like,
spk_0
well, let's just see what's best for me.
spk_0
Yeah.
spk_0
And I like Concerto a lot.
spk_0
It's so Adderall and Vivans are emphetamine-based,
spk_0
concertos, methamphetamine-based.
spk_0
It just, you don't know which one's better for either.
spk_0
So I would talk to you as ever,
spk_0
prescribing it for you to like,
spk_0
hey, Dr. Aiman said concerto might be a better mix for me.
spk_0
spk_0
So, yes.
spk_0
But do we see ADD or do we see the H in mine?
spk_0
Or do we just see ADD?
spk_0
The naming of this thing is so stupid.
spk_0
In 1980 used to be ADD with or without hyperactivity.
spk_0
But the people who make the book, the names things,
spk_0
need to change things up so people buy the new version
spk_0
of the book.
spk_0
And in 1987 went to ADHD.
spk_0
And they threw out half the people who were hyperactive.
spk_0
Oh, wow.
spk_0
And in 1994 they changed it again to ADHD.
spk_0
Because they realized they threw out half the people
spk_0
who were hyperactive.
spk_0
And it's just stuff.
spk_0
I think if I had to do it from sport,
spk_0
probably ADD without hyperactivity.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
PMS, low testosterone.
spk_0
I'm gonna add chronic stress.
spk_0
Yeah, definitely.
spk_0
And so I think, what do you do to manage the chronic stress?
spk_0
I could be doing so many other things
spk_0
that I'm not doing, like exercising.
spk_0
I had to take that four month pause,
spk_0
but I do think I'm so my brain is so much better.
spk_0
Just everything feels better when I exercise.
spk_0
Meditation, I've fallen off of completely.
spk_0
I think I could use a little bit of that.
spk_0
And then, you know, I feel like I could probably,
spk_0
I feel like a hyperbaric sounds good.
spk_0
I could probably lay in there for a little bit.
spk_0
A son infrared sauna.
spk_0
Things that I'm just not consistent with anything.
spk_0
That's my problem.
spk_0
Every year, for new years, I write one word down
spk_0
that I wanted to carry with me and it was consistency.
spk_0
And I just fucking can't do it.
spk_0
That's crazy.
spk_0
How many days out of 10 do you take this stimulant?
spk_0
Five.
spk_0
You don't need your brain on the other days or?
spk_0
I think I don't wanna be,
spk_0
I, there's this like stigma like,
spk_0
oh, I don't wanna be dependent on something,
spk_0
but it's almost like, well, don't you wear eyeglasses
spk_0
when you need to see?
spk_0
I was just gonna say that.
spk_0
So it's like,
spk_0
you're dependent on glasses.
spk_0
spk_0
Yeah, I need to,
spk_0
I need to turn the batteries on and it helps.
spk_0
So I make something called focus and energy.
spk_0
I want you to try that.
spk_0
I want you to try peak energy as opposed to that,
spk_0
or all and just see which one you like better.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
And then I want you to try,
spk_0
consortium.
spk_0
Okay.
spk_0
Brain T-Max and PMS really,
spk_0
another one I like for you is everyday stress relief
spk_0
because that's just a big part of what's going on.
spk_0
And everyday, when are you learning?
spk_0
If you just have that mindset,
spk_0
that's right.
spk_0
The only thing I can control is my behavior,
spk_0
is my behavior fit and goals I have for my life.
spk_0
