And what is your relationship to one, Micah Villes Jones?

We grew up together in the same town. Our moms worked at the same hospital too and went to

school together at first van der were then central school, summerville middle school, and
spk_0
after that summerville high school. But oh, but central school doesn't exist anymore.

Very good. Now, please tell me what you know about Micah and her mother, Eva Villes.

Okay, um, well where should I start? Wherever makes sense.

Well, uh, like I said, Eva and my mom were both nurses at the same hospital.

My mom worked first shift. So once in a while I'd go over there after school and she'd be
spk_0
getting off around the same time. So I'd ride home with her. And you saw Eva when you'd go there?

Sometimes. I mean, I don't, uh, I don't know what shift she worked or days. I mean, she'd
spk_0
sometimes be there, but sometimes not me. Uh, maybe she worked second shift.
spk_0
Are you asking me? No, right. Sorry. Uh, I'm just, I'm not a hundred

percent sure it was a long time ago.

Right, yeah. Um, so our mom's both worked at the hospital and it was, um, well, it was a really big
spk_0
deal when Eva died. She wasn't a super social person, but she still knew everyone anyway,
spk_0
just from work and it being a relatively small town and all. I mean, there were so many people
spk_0
at her wake. My mom and I stood in line for almost 45 minutes to pay respect to the family.

But well, there was no one to pay respects to elaborate on that.
spk_0
Well, we got to the front to the casket open. Excuse me? Was it open casket?
spk_0
Why does, why is that yes or no? Yes.
spk_0
Okay, continue. Um, well, I, I got to the casket and I noticed
spk_0
Michael wasn't there. You know, when the chairs or the family usually sits,
spk_0
I figured she must have stepped out to go to the bathroom or just take a breather.
spk_0
We went and took a seat. I waited for her to come back so I could say hi to her, but
spk_0
we sat there for about a half an hour and she never came.
spk_0
When the funeral home people did the prayer and asked everyone attending the funeral,
spk_0
the next day to write their names and license plate numbers in the notebook by the door and
spk_0
um, that was it. And you don't find it odd that none of the rest of Micah's family was there?
spk_0
Oh, she doesn't have any. Her dad died a long time ago and
spk_0
I assume her grandparents too otherwise they'd be like in their 90s now most likely.

None of Ava's family. Siblings? Cousins? Ava doesn't have any siblings.
spk_0
Are you sure? Yes, positive. Uh, yeah, I distinctly remember

one time on the bus with Micah and her friend Amy. Um, Micah was talking about how she was.
spk_0
She had a sibling like Amy did. Someone to look out for her and protect her.
spk_0
And that she didn't even have cousins to fill that role.
spk_0
She was the only child of two only children. You were sure she said this?
spk_0
Absolutely. Because I remember thinking we had that in common.
spk_0
I mean, I was also the only child of two only children.

Until my mom and stepdad had my little brother a couple years later.

Backing up just a bit, can you please confirm when you attended Ava's funeral?

2018. It was early spring maybe
spk_0
March or April.
spk_0
And your concern for Micah began when you attended Ava's wake and did not see her there?
spk_0
Not exactly. I mean, uh, in hindsight, yes, but at the time I thought she just needed to get away.
spk_0
We came in at the tail end, like I said, like the last 30 minutes. So I figured she just had enough.
spk_0
But um, well, then I heard her podcast. She started it only a few months after Ava's funeral.
spk_0
That's when you became concerned? Well, of course. I mean, you've, you've heard it, right?
spk_0
At least some of it. She's pretending her mom is alive.
spk_0
It's so sad. I don't know who that woman is, but it's obviously not Ava.
spk_0
She must have hired an actor or a friend maybe.
spk_0
And when first I thought it was some kind of fictional thing, like a weird form of exposure therapy or something,
spk_0
but the more I listen, the more I realize that she really believes all of this.

We're all super concerned.

You and her friends.

Well, her friends sound like they're all in on it. Who knows though? Maybe those aren't her friends either.

Maybe everyone on that thing is a paid actor.

So you don't know any of her friends?

No, I mean, why would I?

Oh, geez. Um, uh, well, I mean, after graduation, I think...

You haven't spoken to her since high school?
