Speaker A It's the ultimate fan experience. Level up. For More on the ESPN app or at stream.espn.com Sign up now. All right. And rolling. We are on this very busy Monday into our number two on get up. The regular crowd is here. Teddy in for Orlovsky.
Speaker E Winner.
Speaker A It was an unbelievable day in the NFL yesterday. So many storylines and maybe the most interesting game in the city of brotherly love. The Broncos went in there with something to prove and did they ever pick this up? Second half, Eagles up 10 3. They haven't run it with Saquon Barkley at all, but he did get behind the defense here.
Speaker E Teddy, they wanted to throw it. Saquon K can do this too. All around player.
Speaker A Touchdown Eagles. They only ran the ball 11 times in this game, but that touchdown gave them a 173 lead. Ball game, right? Wrong. Bo Nix. What a fourth quarter. They had already scored to make it 17 10. Then look at them finding Evan Ingram over the middle, who stretches for the goal. 17:16 Extra points gonna tie it, right?
Speaker C Wrong.
Speaker A They're going for the two.
Speaker C Tracy, you're absolutely out of here.
Speaker A What are they doing?
Speaker D Confident two.
Speaker A That is a very confident spectacular 1817 Denver. We're gonna break down this play that they ran in just a few minutes for you. But they still had to hold on on defense, which they would do. Broncos get the ball back. Third and two at the 29. Here's a big moment in the game. The Eagles are gonna get a stop with plenty of time left. Got him. Zach Vaughn. Not your boy, not my guy.
Speaker E That's Zach Vaughn. And this is a penalty. And this is what the refs are looking for. He's clearly down. Forearm to the back of the neck. That's a huge mistake.
Speaker A That's Teddy's favorite player in the league, Zach Vaughn. Broncos kick a 21. 17. Hurts. Not giving up. Dallas got hurts on the sideline looking for a flag. Should there have been one, Teddy could.
Speaker E Have gone either way. But this is it. Games on the line. Let him play one last one.
Speaker A Last chance. AJ And Devonte are both back there. Dee Wood come pretty close on the Hail Mary.
Speaker B They're literally fighting each other over this Hail Mary. They have hands on the ball and couldn't come down with it.
Speaker A Just like that. The Denver Broncos with what might be the statement win of season. Go into Philly, AJ Might have broken up and hand the Eagles their first loss. I'll tell you what, the Eagles have been flirting with this. We opened Countdown yesterday by saying, is this the day it catches up to them? And the answer proved to be yes. They were outgained again. Which is no surprise. They've been outgained in every game this season. They're just the second reigning super bowl champ to be outgained in their first five games of the following year. The other one, where the Giants once upon a time didn't make the playoffs. The eagles sitting at 4 1. Here are their receivers after the game.
Speaker B We shot ourselves in the field a lot.
Speaker C Left a couple players out there who wasn't on the same page, but ultimately we got to get on the same page.
Speaker B The inconsistency showed up again and you know, we gotta play four quarters, you know, and we can't, we have to, you know, stop putting a lot of pressure on our defense because they're playing really good.
Speaker C But, you know, but we just gotta.
Speaker A Pull our, pull our in, you know, certain things don't get you until they get you.
Speaker B We gotta go back and really learn from this.
Speaker E Take ownership for the things that we can control.
Speaker A It was a day filled with missed opportunities and self inflicted wounds on some level for the defending champs. And D. Wood, you made the point right off the top of the show. What have the Eagles lost their identity?
Speaker B And I said, you can't lose something you never had. If you look at the Eagles offensively throughout this whole season, what do they do? Well, what can you hang your hat on for the Philadelphia this season?
Speaker D Nothing.
Speaker B This is nothing. They can't run the football. And you've heard in the clip from the wide receivers, you've heard, you know, not on the same page, you know, they, they don't do anything well on offense. And so I know Rex is going to talk about this, but all odds to me leads to the offensive coordinator.
Speaker A It's Kevin Petullo who replaced Kellen Moore, who became the head coach in New Orleans. And to be clear, he came from within, right? He's, he's not someone from the outside, so he knows the system, but he's not an experienced play caller. And you don't believe they have any rhythm in the plays that they are called?
Speaker C No, I mean the inexperience as a play caller is showing to me because what, what do you hang your hat on? Nothing. What's your bread and butter? What should it Be it should be. Run the football. Absolutely run it. And you know what? The next time run it again. Remember I all last year I kept singing run Eagles run.
Speaker A Right?
Speaker C Right. They don't, they don't run. What the hell are you doing? Especially when you get a lead, your defense is playing great. You know, it's funny, but the clock ticks when you run the football because you stay in bounds, right? Like click. You know it's going down. And that you eliminate when you run the football. It helps your entire football team. And to me, the passing game becomes way more effective and way more efficient when you run the football. The play action. Jalen hurts is really good at play action. Well, not this year, Ian, because nobody expects to run. Nobody cares about your run. So to me, this is a coaching thing. And when you see Devonta Smith talk about we're not on the same page, it means homeboy is not on the same page. The guy that we're looking for to call our offense is not on the same page with the players. What that tells me is you're doing a horrible job communicating with your players on what the plan is, what the specific plan is. It almost looks like a guy. This is what happens to, to, you know, average ass coordinators. All right, what's the media saying? Throw the ball to A.J.
Speaker B Brown.
Speaker C Throw the ball. Okay? That's what I'm going to do because I don't want the media on you. Hey, listen, you don't have to worry about the media. Your ass will be gone before you know it. You better get in line. And the head coach right now. This is where Sirianni's got to step in. Sirianni's got to sit back even if he's got to take play calling over. Okay? If you got to take the play calling over, then go ahead and do it because your identity. Sirianni is a tough dude. Run the damn football. Nick, let's go.
Speaker D Last time they won a Super bowl, they encountered similar problems of figuring out their identity the next season. And they had to change coordinators again. Yesterday they had 11 rushing attempts all game long. So when you're not running the football, you're not running the tush push. You're not running the tush push, you're not winning the games. And the Denver Bryant, like, take a.
Speaker A Look at the density. Those are the numbers from yesterday.
Speaker C That's crazy, right?
Speaker E Here's one thing that's not going to happen. Saquon Barkley is not going to tweet.
Speaker A Okay? Right.
Speaker E Saquon Barkley is not. I mean, I mean, can Saquon Barkley go to an offensive quarter and talk to.
Speaker A To him?
Speaker E Sure, but Saquon's not going to do that. Saquon is the person that needs to take this over. And the Eagles, they've been getting away with it, fellas, because they've been winning games in exciting fashion.
Speaker A Right?
Speaker E Block kicks, special team brew.
Speaker B You know, it's not. That's not sustainable.
Speaker E It's not sustainable. It's not sustainable. So the Broncos put them in a situation where they had to win it in the end, throwing the football. And then Jalen hurts make completing passes. But Nick Bonito is the star. He gets two and a half sacks. And I'm telling you, going into Philadelphia, all right. To win. Sean Payton made the gutsiest call of the day yesterday, and that was a two point convenience.
Speaker C He sure the heck did. But I got to say something before we get off the Eagles. If I'm Nick Sirianni, the first thing I'm going to do in front of my entire football team is call out every one of my offensive line. And you know, I've done it before. Put them right in front with me. We are leaning on these guys. You guys got to get it done. D Wood, you got to get it done. I'm calling out every one of my offensive linemen and we're going to ride your back. And that's where you put it on the big guys.
Speaker D You know what, they're a little bit banged up right now. Cam Juergens had off season. I'm just telling you.
Speaker C Yeah.
Speaker D Landon Dickerson left the game. Lane Johnson's been hurt. They're a little bit more beaten up than we probably realize, which contributes.
Speaker B Let me tell you something. Let me tell you something right now.
Speaker C It's a hell of a lot easier to block than it is.
Speaker B Nobody gives a damn if you're hurt. Everybody's dealing with injuries. But when you're talking about the Philadelphia Eagles, the way they're built, their identity is to run the football. And they're not running the football. Yeah.
Speaker E All right. It's Bronco time. It's Bronco time because these guys balled out.
Speaker D All right?
Speaker E These guys went in there and they beat these guys coming back in the fourth quarter. And that two point conversion was a thing where everyone's watching and they're saying what? They're going for this. But Bo, Nick said, coach once, he said, put it on the left hash. We know what play we're going to run. We're going to maximize this space to the right side of the field. We're going to roll out Bo Nix and then our receiver run to the pylon and Knicks can put it there. Confidence in the quarterback, confidence in the execution. Gutsy call to beat the world champions in their house. The Denver Broncos to breakthrough games. The Patriots and the Broncos, all the Broncos especially saying, here we are, NFL world, we just beat the best there is.
Speaker D And let me tell you something about the Denver Broncos. They had a great quarterback named John Elway. He was about as clutch as there was in the fourth quarter. And the Denver Broncos in games where they were down by 14 or more points in the fourth quarter over the history of the franchise were 1 and 112 entering yesterday when they were down 14 against the Eagles in Philadelphia on the road against the defending champs. John Elway not playing, but Bo Nix was. And they got their second win in 113, 114 games and they were down.
Speaker A Think about Denver season. They hand away a game against Indianapolis on that leverage call. They absolutely have that game on now. The Chargers lose again yesterday and they look really banged up. We'll see what happens with Kansas City tonight. The Broncos feel like they are legit. They're going to London to play against a Jets team that is reeling. So things feel like they are pointing upwards for the Broncos right now. If you're looking for who's the contender that maybe we didn't all see coming, the Broncos feel like they could be that right now. Let's do some Sunday superlatives. Looking through a huge day in the NFL. D. Wood, what was the best offensive performance from the day?
Speaker B How about Rico Dowdle with the Carolina Panthers talking about a guy who had what he had. 234 total yards and a touchdown and a comeback win against the Miami Dolphins. Boy, was he toting that route. Look at him just running through players out there for the Dolphins. He was absolutely spectacular yesterday.
Speaker A It was a very entertaining game and a lot. I don't know how many people were focused on it outside of the hardcore fans, but that was a good comeback win for Carolina. Teddy, who had the best defensive performance yesterday?
Speaker E How about going out there and making plays to get your head coach? His first victory as a New Orleans Saints head coach. Koolaid McKistry right here. Two interceptions in the fourth quarter in the fourth quarter against the New York Giants to give Kellen Moore his first victory. Defensive back, great interceptions to secure this win for the New Orleans Saints.
Speaker A Get the Saints off the schneide. The Titans got off the Schneid Rexy A Kool Aid. Who had the worst performance yesterday?
Speaker C G no, fifth again. This is three weeks in a row. Horrendous performance. My gosh, what are we doing here? Geno Smith can be great at times, but way too many Genoese this season.
Speaker A That was a way too many. A non game. There were several games yesterday. We haven't seen much of it chefty, but there were several games yesterday that were just non competitive from the jump and this one was one of those. The Raiders absolutely non competitive and it's.
Speaker D Been going that way. Pete Carroll's in a spot where he's never been in before. He's won in four for the first time in his career. The Colts are rolling and establishing themselves as a team that is going to be a playoff contender and a force in the afc. We're talking about the Broncos merging. The Colts are right there because of Daniel Jones, who I know Teddy's been all over, right?
Speaker A Daniel Jones, comeback player.
Speaker D Comeback player of the year.
Speaker E I just got to see more.
Speaker A Fellas.
Speaker D There's a you were late to Sam Darnold last year. Don't be late to Daniel Jones this year.
Speaker E I don't mind being a little late. There's another bricks.
Speaker A There's another quarterback Teddy's a little excited about. Let's go. Mayday, mayday. The news Stud slinger in the AFC East. If you didn't watch what happened last night, a star may have been born. Plus, the D in big D stands for dak and it stands for dominant. Is any quarterback playing better than he is?
Speaker B No.
Speaker A Thank you.
Speaker E Show me.
Speaker A Thank you for that answer.
Speaker E Show me something like that Daniel Jones. Show me something like that Daniel Jones. Go into somebody's house. Keep the Raiders foreign.
Speaker A Quinones. Vanessa Guillen, a 20 year old soldier vanishes while on duty at an army base in Texas. Her family demands answers. How can she go missing on a military base? That's too ridiculous. The search goes on for months. Where is Vanessa? And a dark story starts to unfold. She told her family that she was being sexually harassed and wasn't reporting it out of fear of retribution and retaliation. What investigators finally uncover is horrifying. Find out how one soldier, a beloved sister and daughter ignited a movement and sparked a reckoning in the US Military. Listen to Vanished What Happened to Vanessa? A new series from ABC Audio in 2020. Listen now, wherever you get your podcasts. Eight years ago, I blew my football career. He dropped it at the one yard line. Chad Powers has arrived on Hulu.
Speaker D If I can't Please, Russ.
Speaker A I'll play as someone else. My name's Chad. And last name legit. From executive producers Eli and Peyton Manning. Remember, you're wearing a prosthetic mask. This is acting. And starring Glen Powell.
Speaker C He thinks you're a rubber chew toy.
Speaker A Not rubber. I'm a man made of flesh. The Hulu original series Chad Powers is now streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney. For bundled subscribers. Terms apply. New episodes Tuesdays. We are back on get up. If you didn't stay up last night, you missed a great one. A whiteout game in western New York.
Speaker E You missed a good one.
Speaker B Oh, Teddy.
Speaker A Love it.
Speaker D Just good, Teddy.
Speaker A Just good. Way through the third quarter, Patriots down 10, 6. How about the night? Drake May and Stephon Diggs had mo away from pressure.
Speaker E And Stefon Diggs coming through. And a little payback game for Steph Diggs right there. What a catch.
Speaker A Next play is first and goal. Ramond Ray Stevenson fumbled early in the game. D Wood, but Mike Vrabel stayed with him.
Speaker B Stayed the course, stayed with him. And he rewarded him with two rushing touchdowns in the game.
Speaker A Patriots take the lead 13:10 now, same score. Allen is back. Hasn't turned the ball over lately. Oh, how about this pick by Marcus Jones?
Speaker E Marcus Jones cutting underneath because he knows he has safety over the top on the end cut. Marcus Jones has been a star in special teams and defense for this team this year.
Speaker A Now back they go the other way. And shefte you talked about it. Steph Diggs, 10 catches, 146 yards.
Speaker D Second or first receiver to have back to back 100 yard receiving games since Julian Edelman in 2019. Got a game ball for him and.
Speaker A That leads to Stevenson untouched. Oh, man, look at his second, the.
Speaker E Left side of the line.
Speaker A Good 20 to 10. You know it's not over. Allen Keon Coleman. Allen's second touchdown of the game. They're within three, five minutes to go, same score. Patriots punt. Bills have a third and six. Coleman again.
Speaker E Yeah, great catch here by Coleman. Josh Allen is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Great ball here. Coleman, big receiver. The Bills won't go away.
Speaker A Field goal ties it at 20. So here we go. Kid Drake may signature play of his young career.
Speaker E Got a 300 pounder draped on him. Rex, I mean, this is when I crazy. This is it. This is the moment for Drake that everybody, his little breakout moment dragged to the ground.
Speaker D Coming right at him.
Speaker E And he's another one. And then the next one. Graney, I got it here.
Speaker A Go Mae.
Speaker E Drops back to pass. He notices cover too.
Speaker A Right side of the line. Look at that. What are you giving me? Another one right there.
Speaker E Drake, Mason. That enough for the field goal?
Speaker A 52 yards and it's over. The Patriots steal one from Buffalo Statement game. We talked about the statement the Broncos made. How about the statement that young quarterback and his coach made? The Bills were 4, 0. They had won or tied the turnover battle in 26 straight games. The Patriots put a stop to that. They forced three turnovers. Josh Allen afterwards, not happy. Not going to win a football game. Turning the ball over three times in our red zone. Gave them one in their red zone. That's just bad, bad football. And we just did not play good tonight. We shouldn't have, shouldn't have even been in it with three turnovers. So that's again, that's just, that's just piss poor offense. D. Wood, this morning when we had this conversation, I tried to bring up what happened to Buffalo and you were having none of it.
Speaker B No, granted, this is not about Buffalo. This is about New England. The folks in Foxborough, you know what they say in the locker room, we're.
Speaker A Back.
Speaker E And you know everyone's excited in Foxborough. Everyone. Just to temper it a little bit, the Bills are still one of the best teams in the league. Okay, I'll give it to them right there. But the Patriots, this was Broncos esque. Okay. In terms of coming into the best team in the afc, definitely the AFC East. Drake May and these two throws. Moments for quarterbacks. And I'm talking about this. All we've seen is I've waited for a moment for this, for Drake to see. I wait for these moments. And he took it and these two throws, I mean when he with the pressure and then versus cover two the way he did this and took him down for the field goal to win the football game plays by Christian Gonzalez to force Buffalo for the field goal attempt to tie the game with the left side of the offensive line. Brable sticking with Ramondre Stevenson. This is a team that's up and coming. Yes, say that it's up and coming.
Speaker A That's the point.
Speaker E I'm very excited for my former team, but still they're up and coming. A lot of work to do but.
Speaker A Big win because they're early in a rebuild. But what they have is exactly what we said the Eagles didn't. They have an identity. And who gets the credit for that?
Speaker C The coach? Mike Vrabel, without question. I mean not a different from before and no offense to that. You know, the other kid they had in there. But give me a break. Vrabel comes in with credentials, and he's been there, he's done it, and he's already building it the right way.
Speaker A Look.
Speaker C Yeah. This isn't a team for right now. It's for the future. That doesn't mean you can't win right now. Who did they beat? The best team in the afc. That's who they beat at their place. So. Yes. This guy right here, this young stud quarterback. You can't win in this league without a quarterback. Okay? You can't. Well, they got one, all right? And that's what everybody's to trying, you know, firing, trying to find their guy. You said it. You know, there's some guys never thought this kid was going to be legit. Oh, but guess what? He is. He absolutely is. And that. That throw and cover two in the honey hole right there. Hardest throw to make. Well, he. You have to have a bazooka. All right? He's. He's sitting back in there. Bam. There it comes out. Big strong guy and. And the east coast, trust me, you better have a strong arm and you better have size. The kids got both.
Speaker D So if you win in Buffalo in early October and you have the head coach setting the culture and you have this quarterback with the Howitzer, why can't you win later in the season?
Speaker E I'll answer that. I'll answer that right now. Because when you are coming up from a team that's up and coming, the hardest thing to establish is the word again, do it again next week and then do it again the week after that. That's what players will still struggle to do. Ramondre Stevenson still fumbled again. Okay. And were the Patriots lucky that they were able to recover from that? Absolutely. But still, that's a problem that they're going to have to fix because he has got a huge target on his chest from every single team. Because you saw what Buffalo was doing when he got the ball. I mean, he was on the ground. They were still punching him, trying to get it out. There are certain things that consistently they're going to struggle to do, but they.
Speaker D Have the key pieces they do right now.
Speaker E They do the lines developing in the quarterback.
Speaker A The Patriots are 3 and 2. They get new Orleans next week, then they get the Titans, then they get the Browns, then they get the Falcons. They could easily, easily be 7 and 2. I'm not telling you they're going to be. I'm telling you that if they're going to be a year ahead of schedule, they very legitimately could. We're talking about when the second Joe Burrow goes down and opens up a spot in the afc. Right now, smart money is on the Patriots to be the team to claim that spot.
Speaker E Yeah. And I still say realistically for them to lose one of those games, it's very possible because of the inconsistency of the play. I mean, Drake May is going to be in those situations again and something can happen again. But still.
Speaker D But by the way, they gave away games early in the year to the Las Vegas Raiders. In the opener at home, they gave away a game to the Steelers. They're still growing, but they've got the right parts. And by the way, when you look back at those games, I know we could do this for every team and play the what if game.
Speaker E You can.
Speaker D Yeah. But they easily could be even higher and better off than they were.
Speaker A And another conversation to have as the week goes on. The quarterback class of last year of 2024 is starting to shape up between Bo Nix and Drake May and Caleb Williams and Jaden Daniels. And it is starting to shape up to be one of the could potentially live up in every conceivable way. Meanwhile, if you're just getting up this morning, here are three more things you absolutely need to know. In Toronto, the Blue Jays went nuts against the Yankees. Vlad Guerrero a big part of it. Rex gone. That one was a tie.
Speaker C Oh God, it looked like a pop.
Speaker A They hit their.
Speaker C That one's out of any park. Are you kidding me? Out of Yellowstone Park.
Speaker A That's the one we were waiting for. Blue Jays up two games to none on the Yankees. In Seattle, Jorge Polanco facing Tarek Skubal.
Speaker C Yeah. God, and I hate it.
Speaker A I mean I hate it.
Speaker C I love the Skubal kid.
Speaker A And then Julio Rodriguez would break a 2 all time.
Speaker C That's another gaunt shot by Polanco. He hit two off.
Speaker A Scubal Mariners beat the Tigers 3 2. That's Julio. Seattle's first home playoff win since 2001 evens up that series. And then in Las Vegas, Jackie Young scored 21 of her 32 points in the third quarter as the Aces beat the Mercury 91 78. They're up two games to none in that best of seven four time league MVP Asia Wilson had 28 and 14 for the Aces. And we'll have the critical the Aces were dealing. Rex is proud of that. Game three is Wednesday, eight Eastern on ESPN and the all new ESPN app WNBA Countdown tips it at seven. Coming up, the D in big D stands for Dak and it Stands for dominance. Is any quarterback playing better than he is? Spoiler alert. The answer is no. Plus, it was the craziest comeback of the year. It might have been the worst defeat. I don't know ever why one team will not get off the mat after what happened yesterday. We're all over it. On a Monday edition of get up on espn. Tron Aries has arrived.
Speaker D Hostiles.
Speaker C Repeat, we have hostiles.
Speaker A May. Mayday. Oh, my God. There's hundreds of them. On October 10th. We came here from the digital world. The war for our world begins. What in God's name is that? Even I, Max, this is the end to this world. No, it's not. But I can help you.
Speaker D Tron.
Speaker A Ares, rated PG 13. May be inappropriate for children under 13. Only in theaters October 10th. Get tickets now. Welcome back to Get Up. We are presented by Freestyle Libre. Our next feature is called awesome, Awful, Awkward. They all come from the game between the Cardinals and Titans. D. Wood, what did you see in that game that was awesome?
Speaker B How about Marvin Harrison Jr. Just going on. Just march Austin a couple people from the Titans for a touchdown. I mean, look at this right here. Just go up there and just snatch it down over a couple defenders right there. That young man is ultra talented. That's what you're supposed to do every single week. You have that type of ability.
Speaker A That was awesome. Rex, give me something awkward from that game.
Speaker C Oh, my gosh. This one right here. The interception. Here he comes back out. Cam. The ball gets to deflected. Boom. That's. That's awkward. That interception's awkward. Oh, that's really awkward.
Speaker A We got kick it. Touchdown.
Speaker C That's the way you draw it up. All right. That is exactly how you draw it up right there. Like, how do you describe this? Craziest play I've ever seen, I think.
Speaker A But it wasn't the worst play of the day for Arizona. Teddy, what was awful for the Cardinals yesterday?
Speaker E Greeny, I think the right thing to do here is to hand this to Adam.
Speaker C Shaft.
Speaker D Chef D. I don't even know how to describe this. I lost sleep, all this.
Speaker A And my name is Jonathan Gannon.
Speaker D If Amari D. Mercado goes in here, as my friend Warren Sapper pointed out, I said 28.6. He says 27 6. Either way, it's a three score game with 12 minutes and 42 seconds left. Instead, it is ruled a fumble. The fumble changes the game. The Cardinals have any number of mistakes and miscues this game away. This comes one week after the Colts wide receiver A.D. mitchell does the same exact thing. And you'd have to figure that it would be a teaching moment across the National Football League where coaches will be pointing out, don't do this at the goal line. Make sure you get in. Here's what we're talking about. AD Mitchell, one week earlier, does the same thing, drops the football before he goes in. Instead of a touchdown, it's a touchdown. Touchback, no touchbacks, touchdowns. That's what we want. Instead, in this particular case, Amari DiMarcado changes the whole game. Instead of it being a three score game, the ball goes back to Tennessee. And I knew it was coming. I knew it was coming.
Speaker A Two quick thoughts, Shefty. Who was which team did you have in your survivor pool yesterday?
Speaker D The demarcatos.
Speaker A Let's just let them know. Second, I remember as Rex, we were sitting here on a Monday last year after the commanders had the crazy Hail Mary win against the Bears. And you said to me, the Bears will not recover from this. There are some losses you don't bounce back from. And they did not. They wound up losing out basically all their games. And the coach got fired. Do the Cardinals come back from this loss?
Speaker C They don't. The coach is not going to get fired, but they're not going to come back from this one. No chance. And here's the thing, when I saw the other one, I said they may not win another game. Cardinals, they're going to win some games. But I'm telling you, that guy right there, you might want to run out of your building because that is a devastating thing. So if it's me, I run this kid out of the building and I don't care. You saw how animated he was when it, when it happened.
Speaker A Jonathan Gannon, he had no idea what.
Speaker C To do and almost looked like he slipped a punch in. I don't know. But it's time to let it know because it's not acceptable. It's not acceptable through your building. Let him walk out the door.
Speaker A I was trying yesterday when I wanted to put something up on Twitter about it, to come up with how to describe it. What adjective do you use? What term do you use? And the only thing I could come up with was purposeful fumble. Like there's no other way to describe it. He purposely fumbled. He drops the ball on purpose. He just does it in the field of play. I know that isn't his intention, but I can't think of a better way to describe it. And when you find yourself saying that D wood, think about what it means. This could cost A unquestionably cost this team the game. And who knows what that means down the road.
Speaker B You know, you gotta protect that ball like it's your life, like you're holding people's livelihoods in your hand.
Speaker A Okay?
Speaker B And when you don't finish a play like that, it can have lasting ramifications to a lot of. To your team and so on and so forth. And it's just like you said, Rhett, it's just selfish. Finish the play and then once you finish the play, celebrate all you want. But it literally changed the tide of the game and they ultimately lose the game real quick.
Speaker E I think, I think this is, this is a next week. Let's just go to next week to see if your players believe in the culture that the head coach, Jonathan Gannon has there. They'll show you on the field.
Speaker C You know, you emphasize security with your entire football team. Will we not do drills showing the offensive lineman how to hold the football?
Speaker A Yeah.
Speaker C How to carry a football. I mean, and you know, you're seeing the videos here. That's why you. You can't, you can't. You can't keep this dude.
Speaker A They play. Let's see, they have the Colts next week and then the packers. So they. Their schedule is pretty tough. Let's do QB quick reads. Interesting quarterback stories coming out of yesterday. Rex Dylan Gabriel making his debut in London against the Vikings. What did you think?
Speaker C I. I was so impressed with this kid. He's going against a really good defense. Brian. Blaine Forrest does a great job. And I'm telling you, this dude was dealing. And to me, the poise, I mean, everything that he had, he was accurate with the football. It's the best the Cleveland Browns offense has looked all year. They don't turn the ball over. He only took two sacks for a rookie quarterback. Super impressed Teddy.
Speaker A Jaden Daniels and the commanders go into la, beat the Chargers coming from behind to do it. Do they look like a threat in the NFC again?
Speaker E Absolutely do. I love that. I love the way they finish I After the same restill interception on the one yard line. They went 13 plays, 99 yards in 6 minutes and 32 seconds. And on fourth down, Jaden threw that touchdown pass. They've got their quarterback. They all believe in this kid. You can see the culture and the belief. There's the pass right there. Ball game, huge win.
Speaker A How about another quarterback in that same division? D. Wood, I know it's early to be having MVP conversations, but should Dax name be in any of them that we have?
Speaker B Absolutely. Name me a Quarterback that's playing better than Dak Prescott right now. And just to let you know, remind folks, again, the Dallas Cowboys was without four starting offensive linemen yesterday. No CD Lamb. And Dak Prescott was absolutely money throwing for four touchdowns yesterday.
Speaker A Dak Prescott. That was one of the more impressive performances that we have seen, I admit, and I feel stupid saying it now, I really genuinely thought the jets were going to win that game against the Cowboys yesterday because everything in the world added to it or added up to it, the Cowboys defense has been unimaginably bad all year. They were playing without four of their five starting offensive linemen and without Ceedee Lamb. So what did you see from Dak Prescott in that game yesterday? He put his team on his shoulders.
Speaker C Yeah. I mean, he's such a leader, man. I mean it's. And that's the thing. It's not about him. The guy's playing phenomenal. This whole offense. Brian Schottenheimer's got this offense rolling. It's. And that's why, man, they had an opportunity, I think, to be a Super bowl contending team. That's why I said it was the worst trade in history with the Micah Parsons. I keep going back because their defense stakes. This offense is as good as there is. It's as good as there is when. And put four starting starters back in that O line and CD Lamb with Pickens like, oh my God.
Speaker E But it's the one super impactful position in our sport that makes up for someone letting go of the football before the goal line. Injuries, penalties. It's the quarterback. It's the quarterback. I know there aren't four linemen in front of me and I got backups, but he gets rid of it in an efficient manner. Dak Prescott doing with what he had yesterday. Absolutely. Absolutely. One of the best performances I've seen. Absolutely. Wood.
Speaker B Yep.
Speaker A He looks spectacular. If you notice the. I'm not sure what the right word for it is, the utter lack of defense on some of those touchdowns. I mean, Shefte you were pointing it out, the defensive effort, if one can describe it as that on some of those plays that we just saw there. It's tough to watch.
Speaker D Well, when you see some of those Cowboys touchdowns, they're literally walk in touchdowns. Nobody's getting touched. Look at this. Watch Jake Ferguson. Does anybody come close to laying a hand on the guy at this point in time? Watch his touchdown. To the other side. Watch this throw. There's more. There's another one. There's another one. To Javontae Williams, we can look at all the touchdowns and you say, where is defense? You're a defensive coach, you're a linebacker. Like do you see that happen often? I'm not used to seeing that. Where the touchdowns are as simple as they were yesterday.
Speaker C Yeah, I mean, unfortunately we've seen it almost every game with the jets defense this year. And here's the thing that also kills me. They're not creating any turnovers. This is the one. Greenyou had a thing earlier.
Speaker A I'll show it to you right now.
Speaker C I appreciate it.
Speaker A Zero put it up.
Speaker C Zero takeaways in five games.
Speaker A If you're wondering, in NFL history. Yes. How rare is that? It's never happened. They've been tracking takeaways since 1933. The jets are the first team ever to go five games to start the season without a single.
Speaker B It's unheard of. It's unheard of.
Speaker C Absolutely atrocious. And that's the thing. So look, it's not going to be fixed. We know it's a long term plan and all that, but you gotta show a hell of a lot more than this. And the other like we know they're gonna run guys out that building, but it's not just gonna. They're gonna run the D coordinator out. I think that's a pretty much a given. But you're also gonna run players out. And the players got to step start picking this thing up. I want to see more passion. I want to see it on the sideline. I want to see Aaron show more passion.
Speaker A All right.
Speaker C Come on, Aaron, let's go. You are a great player. Get these dang guys going.
Speaker A So everyone asks me my opinion on the jets all the time because people know that I root for the team. I would like to offer my opinion by sending it over to my two colleagues here. If we're keeping it a buck they ass. There's really no other way to describe it. We said that all day yesterday. It's 100% true. There's no other way. There's nothing else to be said. They are the last winless team in the National Football League. And yesterday they were actually embarrassing. I hope they were embarrassed because as a fan I was embarrassed watching. And there's no reason to spend any more time than that talking about them on a show like this. Our next WWE event, the seventh annual Crown Jewel is down under in Perth, Australia. Saturday morning, 8am John Cena continues his retirement tour. Plus the men's and women's Crown Jewel championships are on the line. Unlock it. Unlock your access Stream it exclusively on the ESPN app or go to stream.espn.com WWE so much more still to come. The battered Birds. What the actual heck is wrong with the Eagle offense? Was that a bad game or a bad sign? We'll answer that question. Plus week five, far from over. Can the Jags upset the Chiefs on Monday Night Football? D. Wood making his predictions. Teddy's favorite part of the show. We're smashing.
Speaker E Love it.
Speaker A But first, first, it's Rex's favorite part of the show. Sneaky embo. Here we go. Which 2000 yard rusher ran for the most yards in the playoffs? The season in which did it. Pretty limited group.
Speaker C Yeah.
Speaker A The answer is next. We're back on get up. And before we let Rex take a shot at today's trivia, let's remember how he celebrated his win last week. Yeah. Look at Rex. He go. I gotta say on your behalf, Rex, I am offended by whoever wrote that topic bar on the screen. I thought he was magnificent. I thought that was great dancing. You should be on Dancing with the Stars, but. Okay, here we go. This is a tough question, but I like it. Which 2000 yard rusher ran for the most yards in the playoffs in the season in which he did it?
Speaker C Yeah, I mean, there's only like seven guys that have ever rushed for 2,000 yards, right? So anyway, I've got it narrowed down to two guys. I'm not going with the 80. Peterson, Dickerson, you know, all these type guys. Jamal Lewis, Chris Johnson, all of them. I got it down to two. Terrell Davis. Right? Or my final answer, Saquon Barkley.
Speaker A Oh my God, that's right. It is Saquon Barkley.
Speaker C It is Saquon Barkley.
Speaker A That is Saquon Barkley.
Speaker C Kimbo, you're not here. You ran and I know you're at home watching.
Speaker A Boom, buddy. That is. That's right. I owe you.
Speaker C You could be here, you could be home.
Speaker A I don't care.
Speaker C I still own you.
Speaker A Yeah. Terrell Davis, which is what I was sure the answer was, ran for 468 yards that year in the playoffs and won the Super bowl. Saquon ran for 499 last year. Score another one. Meanwhile, yesterday, the Eagles were one of the last two unbeatens and both of them dropped their games yesterday. Eagles lose, Bills lose. So a shefty said pop the corks in Miami. The 72 Dolphins will not be matched this year. It was also the first day in NFL history that multiple four zero or better teams lost at home. Eagles have no time to rest they have a quick turnaround. They play the Giants Thursday. The Bills head to Atlanta. They will play next Monday night. Now, you said something interesting, Rex, and a great job by the team behind the scenes at getup. Let me explain the conversation. You suggested that the new offensive coordinator, Kevin Batullo in Philadelphia, may be influenced by hearing media criticism and stuff like that about the wide receivers not getting the ball enough. And that may be why they only ran the ball 11 times in a game that they had a two touchdown lead in the fourth quarter. I thought of something Alex Smith said yesterday on Sunday NFL Countdown when he was talking about being a quarterback, and your receiver is upset about not getting the ball and what that feels like. This is what he said. I've been there. When you step into the huddle and your star receiver, right, is not happy, there's no eye contact. They want the ball. And then you break the huddle, right? And you've got your plan and all these things you're thinking about, and in the back of your head is this.
Speaker E I gotta get him the ball.
Speaker A I gotta get him the ball. And I thought that was such a fascinating thought as one who lived it, and only the quarterbacks get it. And so I'm not in this case talking as much about Jalen Hurts as I am the offensive coordinator. Is it possible that the offensive coordinator, who again is inexperienced in that role, is feeling the pressure from A.J. brown cryptically posting biblical tweets and all the rest of that kind of stuff? Is it possible that is where that pressure is coming from?
Speaker C I mean, it absolutely could be, because right now, this is crazy. Like, you have a Super bowl ring. You were part of that staff, and the reason you won it is because you ran the football. And that opens up your pass game. Like, I don't know. But, yeah, it could be that, hey, you know what? I'm gonna get them. You know, we're gonna throw the ball, we're gonna do this and that. Forget that, man. Go back to what got you there, what brung you, so to speak. And that's rushing the football.
Speaker E And that's when, I mean, hopefully head coaches then aggressive, I mean, stern head coaches step in and say, basically, this is what we want to do. I mean, have you. Have you walked into offensive meeting rooms before, Coach?
Speaker C I had one. I had a good guy, a tough guy, and think one day, and I remember we got beat and I said, we have got to run the football. What do we not understand about running the football? And I'm pretty passionate about it. Might have Come to blows. But anyway, it's the next week. We threw the ball eight times.
Speaker A And.
Speaker C Here'S the bad thing. We had it going and we actually lost that game. And it was like, oh, my God. But it was right at the end and pretty much he was like, well, eight. I go, that's good. Keep it going.
Speaker B Do it right.
Speaker A Here's the point. Here's the point. So look, look, we can sit here and say whatever we want at the end of the day. Going into yesterday, and I have not seen the updated statistic, but going into yesterday, the offensive line for Saquon Barkley, the blocking for Saquon Barkley last year, when he should have been the MVP of the league, he was rushing for over four yards before first contact. It was the best in the league. Going into yesterday, that number was 1.8 yards before first contact. Is this offensive line just not what it was a year ago? And at the end of the day, is that more than anything what we're seeing with this?
Speaker B Oh, absolutely. This line is clearly not playing to what they were last year. And it does. It is absolutely having an effect on the running game. But I will, I will also say this. You know, we talked about the offensive coordinator, Kevin Pullo. I think this is. This. This is where sometimes you can get it wrong. Where he's been here, he's been in that building. And so we can just transition, you know, him calling the place for the first time.
Speaker A Right.
Speaker B Being a play caller is an art form. You have to know how to stack plays, how to sequence plays in order for things to work. And I look at, when I watch them play, it's just a hodgepodge of, well, let me throw this out there. Let me throw that out there. There's no sequencing where you like. Okay, I see what the Philadelphia Eagles are doing. Just like you asked me the question at the beginning of the show, right, about their identity. They have no identity because they have no rhythm and flow to their offense.
Speaker A So does that get better as the play caller gets more comfortable, as there are more whatever. They had like a, you know, a Come to Jesus meeting last year, whatever it was, and they kind of figured things out, right? And they went on a roll and they basically never lost again. Is this team going to do that again?
Speaker E Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. I mean, that's why I bring up the head coach to Rex, because the Sirianni have to step in and this. Help him, help him coordinate properly based on the needs that the head coach feels. I'm telling you what? Defensively, going up against the Philadelphia Eagles, I am not threatened by the run game as of today. And that's a problem because the way defensive coordinators have called this in the past, it's like Saquon first.
Speaker A Right?
Speaker E But now it's not that quick.
Speaker A Final word, Chefi.
Speaker D Anyone starting any new job needs to learn the rhythms and routines of that job. Kevin Petullo is still learning on the job, and it's going to be a long process and it's going to be involved throughout the course of the season.
Speaker A Okay, As I mentioned, there is still one very good game left on this weekend schedule. It's tonight, and we'll pick it the way we always do. Let's smash the helmet. Hey, welcome to the most dangerous segment. Big man, tiny helmet.
Speaker E That's the one I've been waiting for.
Speaker A Hit me right in the chin. Turn to the side, turn to the side. Oh, he's hit. Watch this. All right, here we go. We almost lost Shefty last week, so everyone get your goggles on very quickly before we pick the game. The Chiefs are a 3 1/2 point favorite at Jacksonville Shefte. What is going on with Xavier Worthy?
Speaker D Well, what happened was he flew down there yesterday. His ankle swelled up on the plane. So out of precaution, the Chiefs put him on the injury report as questionable because Zanca was swelled. They want to see how it responds today. I think they believe he's going to be able to play, but they just want to make sure that the ankle doesn't get worse.
Speaker A All right. Because they look so much better with him than they had without him. All right, we got the Chiefs, we got the Jaguars statement game. Maybe Jacksonville D. Wood. Who do we like? Oh, he got your wreck.
Speaker C I'm good.
Speaker A We got shrimp.
Speaker B It literally just bounced off rest.
Speaker A Tell me why. How does Casey win?
Speaker B How they always win. Patrick Mahomes, I think. I think last week was probably a jumping off point for them to get them some momentum and more importantly, some confidence on offense. Now, they're going up against a really good Jacksonville Jaguars defense this year, but I'm going with Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker C Chiefs are winning on defense. That's how they've been winning these games anyway. So to me, that's why I think that you're Teddy.
Speaker A I see the Jaguars logo.
Speaker E This is the week of the awakening. I'm telling you. Teams are starting to come through and show who they really are. I think the Jaguars have a statement victory today. I really love the defense and especially the way ETNs been running the football.
Speaker B So Duval ball.
Speaker A That would really. That would really be something if, if they find that game tonight again. You see the picks there up on the screen. Kansas City and Jacksonville going head to head. Speaker C Yes, I do.
Speaker A I want you to see what Vince Whaley was dealing with at the Sanderson farm from Mississippi.
Speaker C Is that what we call a. Oh, my goodness.
Speaker A That gator is that close to him. And he just stood there calm as can be without his shoes in the water and hit this shot.
Speaker E This is why I don't golf. I fish.
Speaker A Would you see?
Speaker C And you know, oh, no, I'm spacing. That greenie my game. I'm spacing. I don't play it down.
Speaker A I mean, that is my plate off my gator.
Speaker E He got 9 millimeters on him just in case he moves. Security guards ready to take his mouth.
Speaker D There's never been a gallery quet like that.
Speaker A No. That you want to talk about. Pressure all over the place.
Speaker B All right.
Speaker A A remarkable day again. Teddy likes Jacksonville tonight. We'll see what winds up happening in the finish of week five. Here, Kansas City with a chance to move a step closer. It's been a fabulous morning. We'll see you back and better than ever tomorrow. First take.
Speaker C Can't wait for the hockey season.
