your overall thoughts? My overall thoughts were that I would have reactions to things and then I would

realize, Marisa, there is nothing subtle about anything that happens in this drama. Of course,

it's going to be to the absolute extreme. So here's me going, why is this happening? And then I have

to be like, oh, wait, wait a second. Of course, that's how it is. It's got to be like sledge hammer,

super obvious. The metaphors are big. And yeah, and then I'm like, wait, already, episode two,

he's gone. He's gone. I'm like, but of course. And so I just kind of like just went with it.

Although I would say that reading Director Huang's interview with Regina Kim in Vanity Fair

was really enlightening and that kind of helped me process a lot. So she interviewed him for

Forbes.com, but also for Vanity Fair. And that's a really good article. So I would highly recommend

you check you guys check that out. So yeah, it was great. It was great to read it. And it did help me

a little bit. Kasey loved the T.O.P. came out. Wasn't ready for it. Absolutely. I have to be with

I have to go with Calvin. My overall thoughts were I kind of like by the end, like of course,

okay. Yeah. I mean, I just I wasn't I didn't I didn't not like it, but I also wasn't it was kind

of bland. It was not a it was not a super satisfying ending for me. Not because of the way it ended,

not because of the what happened in the ending, but because how we got there, I think is what I'm

saying. I wasn't really that invested in it by the time we got there. Oh, that's interesting. So

do you think you weren't is it is it because of Gian's character? Like you weren't. I thought a

little disconnected from him in this series. Yeah. Sharpie. This is it. It was mad, but the ending

made sense. Ending made absolutely a ton of sense, right? I was a little disappointed because Marisa

United talked about it. My one thing was like, can we please just not have it be the same ending

that it was before? And it wasn't theoretically, but it was, right? Like four, five, six makes it to

the end. He has a choice to make like, okay, yeah, okay. I wanted something different. Um,

I think my biggest thing was that we spent so much, we're moving already into Quibble, so I apologize.

So let's just do that. Let's just put Biggest Quibble. Let's just throw them out there because I feel

like that's where my that's where I that's where I'm living. Um, my biggest Quibble was that we spent
spk_0
the last three episodes with a group of characters that we knew nothing about. I was like, I have no
spk_0
emotional attachment to 98% of these characters. And they were the ones that were making all these
spk_0
decisions. And I was just kind of like, well, of course you're all going to die. I don't care. Like,
spk_0
just get thrown off the pillars and let's just be let's just get down to the final situation.

Like, how are we ending this? Like what is happening? And I think that was just my biggest Quibble.

I did not care about the final group of contestants where in this original season, at least you had
spk_0
an emotional attachment to those final three, right? Like you had gone through journeys with them.

The tool that it was all dudes, it was all a bunch of horrible dudes and I was just like,
spk_0
just all die. I hate you all. Good, good, good, good, good, good, good, good, good, good.

And I'm wondering if, um, so in Regina Kim's article in Vanity Fair Director,

Director Wong said he had six months to write, um, seasons two and three. And as we know,
spk_0
he took 10 years, I think, to write season one. And so, um, I have to wonder if, because I was so
spk_0
surprised that our trans soldier was gone by episode two. And that also your boyfriend,
spk_0
Kang Hanoel was gone in episode two. And I was like, wait, but we have heart with them. We have
spk_0
emotional connections with them. And I'm like, I could care less about the old guy. Oh, my, so that,
spk_0
that was what I'm saying. I'm not saying that those characters did not need to dot, not need.
spk_0
That's a horrible thing to say. But from an emotional standpoint, needed to die and do who needed
spk_0
to make this ultimate sacrifice. I'm not saying I disagree with any of that structurally. But you
spk_0
still could have kept the characters that we were attached to and still gotten to the same point
spk_0
practically, right? They all could have been fighting trying to figure out how they, you know,
spk_0
June, I'm saying like, we could have saved, I mean, our girl, uh, Hyeonju could have made it
spk_0
to the final and helped, you know, June, I'm saying, like, I think it just their deaths would have
spk_0
been more impactful. I mean, I was crushed when they killed Hyeonju, but also her death.

I mean, it was, it was, it was unnecessary. It was an un, at that time, I'm not saying she didn't
spk_0
have to die at some point for the story. But at that point, I didn't understand, I mean,
spk_0
obviously to turn 333 into like this evil, evil man. I said, I, I had quibbles. Yeah. And so

what kind of bummer is that is yelling at us? The ending is perfect. Yes. I, I'm not disagreeing

that where we ended up wasn't perfect. Oh, yeah. There is my quibble. That's all I'm saying. Yeah.

It's just that I know there's some bigger commentary here, but like the, the, the, the, the,

the contestants who chose to protect were taken out so early. So early. So we were just left
spk_0
with the most, the greediest of the greediest. And I'm like, uh, okay, I get that that's a societal

comment. But like, is it an emotional watcher? I was like that. Bums me out big time. That,
spk_0
you know, metaphorically speaking, that the ones who actually cared about other people died so
spk_0
quickly. Of course. Hunchy was my favorite character to all three seasons be signed to save yuck

in season. Yeah. Thousand percent hands down. I had to pause when she died. When Hunchy died. And I
spk_0
was crying. And you guys know, I don't cry. And I was crying. I was really upset. I was like,
spk_0
why did they? Why? Why now? Why now? I was very, I knew she was not going to make it to the end.

But I was very upset that that was what had happened. But yeah, it was, it was the easy ending. I mean,

we also spent so much time with the, our squid game soldier and her trying to rescue the
spk_0
character. I do care. I did anyone care. I did not care. I cared. Would you? I did. I cared.

I did. I cared about her story. Yes. I cared about her story. I cared about his story, not so
spk_0
much. Like her trying to save him did nothing for me. I just felt it was wasted real estate in the story.

Oh, you see, because I thought that it gave her that it was like, yes, there is humanity in her. She

might have grown up in North Korea in these horrible military conditions. Oh,
spk_0
she might have lost her family, but there was still something in her that cared about another human
spk_0
being, not someone that was even, she was very close to, but that she felt for whatever reason,
spk_0
as a parent, as someone who's suffering, who was committed to his child, that she would do what
spk_0
she couldn't. So I felt, yeah, I cared about her story. Okay. Shardy, 8295 also cared.

Thank you. Also cared. I was like, we're spending a lot of time. And I think had we kept characters

I cared about more longer. Maybe I would have been more invested in that story. But yeah,

New Jeans fan is still going strong. The ending wasn't easy. He wrote a happy end, but first,

but was unrealistic. Thank you. He changed. This was a perfect ending. Um, hey, I guess.

Oh, well, speaking of the ending, let's talk about Cape Blanchett. I swear, I've been seeing like fake

AI squid game, American squid game series, like things on Instagram, like I don't think those are

real. Like, no, they're not what? Yeah, this is not weird. And then my husband was saying that he

gets a lot of these on on whatever social media platforms he's on these really, they're, I guess

they're clickbait. It's like fake versions of movies or bands that he's interested in. It's very,

right. It's very strange. It's happening. Yeah, I guess I'm weird shit. KC was her kid dead or not.

I think it was they at the end, she actually after it was almost like some fairy dust,

where after she helped the one guy get back to his daughter, then she was told that her

daughter was possibly seen. So I think it was kind of left open open ended. I think we can choose,

I think we can choose to to believe that her daughter is still alive. Yeah. Yeah. Uh-huh. Which was

lovely. Um, yeah. So is there a David Fincher squid game? There is not. Okay. Not, not,

my, my inside sources tell me that it is not happening yet. Well, thank you. So actually,

all, you know, really tell, because I swear. Yeah. So like Instagram, you can stop with the fake.

like shrug was like, you had access to Cape Blanchette and you made us suffer through those VIPs.

Like if you can get Cape Blanchette to do a cameo, you have enough cloud to get actual actors that

could do VIPs at least some justice. Like the VIPs were still

atrociously bad. And they dubbed, they overdubbed every single one of those actors.

so, and is it just me or did the VIPs like linger longer in season three than they didn't say

in one? I felt like we got rid of them much faster in season one. I feel like there were more of

them in season one. And the right, I mean, the writing was nominally better. It was such a week,

it's such a weak spot in this series. It's really,

why make them English speakers? I mean, you didn't have to. Yeah, you know, like,

I was just now you're writing in another language and you're dealing with actors in another language

and they're never a priority on set. So it was just like, I mean, it just, it just felt like after

the debacle of the VIPs in season one, they tried to fix it by having actors dubbed over for this

season. And I'm just like, no, just can the VIPs just be a silent,

menacing force? Because that's the only way they were ever going to work. Like, they were,

they were just, they were just, they were just atrociously bad. Um, Andrea really hopes there's no

US version. Kate see not planning to watch any US version. Um, I'm curious. I think I mentioned

this on our newsletter. I think Kate, you mentioned that you were not going to watch any US version.

I am kind of curious to see what they would do with another version of squig. How do you take

such a juggernaut show and try to put your own stamp on it? Do I think it's going to be good? No,

but I'm curious to see what, what, what type of spin they could put on it that would make it's

working in the industry that I'm just kind of wildly fascinated to see what they would do with it.

But I do kind of the universe of squid game is definitely set up that you could have a squid game,

you know, America, a squid game, Spain, a squid game, you know, Germany. Like, you could have

multiple squid games. I'm not saying I'm not saying I'm campaigning for this.

But they did set up the universe as squid game was not isolated to Korea.

And so I think there is story to be told. I'm just not sure how or who should do that.

Oh, Calvin heard a theory about the VIP. The reason they're so bad was because it was social

commentary about how Hollywood badly portrayed Asian characters in various shows.

What did you think about the baby storyline? Well, that was my whole. Oh, of course, there, there, there's no subtlety here. It's sledge amers all around.

It's the metaphor of the older generation must make way for the new generation. And it was like.

So of course, there's like old guy is going to get it. And then baby. I'm like, okay. All right. This is where we are. This is this is this is the story he chose to tell.
