spk_0 That woman, that mother is now more than twice as likely to choose life.
spk_0 That's when pre-born steps in and steps up, supports that woman and child for up to two
spk_0 years.
spk_0 The diapers will whatever, just to emotionally help the woman, the whole nine, they got
spk_0 it covered because we cover pre-born.
spk_0 We donate and give the pre-born and make it possible for them to provide these women
spk_0 ultrasound and the support they need for up to two years.
spk_0 We do it by donating two different ways.
spk_0 We hit pound 250 on your smartphone pound 250 say the keyword baby pound 250 keyword

spk_0 All right, let's get to it.
spk_0 Let's get to last night's Monday Night Football game that the Jacksonville Jaguars, can I
spk_0 say the word mysteriously one?
spk_0 That was a very tripped out ending to that Monday Night Football game or the whole Monday
spk_0 Night Football game was just tripped out, but particularly the ending.
spk_0 Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars are down 28 to 24.
spk_0 They go on a game winning, what turns out to be a game winning touchdown drive and the
spk_0 touchdown comes on a play.
spk_0 Let's just roll that in the background as I talk about this.
spk_0 Let's roll Vio number two.
spk_0 Trevor Lawrence trips, he gets tripped by his guard, falls to the ground, then falls
spk_0 to the ground again.
spk_0 No one tackles him and he runs, scrambles around to the left and there was, what an unbelievable
spk_0 play Trevor Lawrence is incredibly true.
spk_0 But if you slow it down and I don't know if we have the slow down version, but Chris Jones,
spk_0 man, he does something absolutely silly and unbelievable.
spk_0 He quits on the play and Chris Jones is an all time great, Hall of Fame defensive tackle,
spk_0 the best defensive player on the Kansas City Chiefs and on one of the most critical plays
spk_0 of the game, he stops and walks around and does nothing.
spk_0 This, I've never seen this from an all time great defender.
spk_0 We've seen maybe Randy Moss quit on some plays during the game and he's on Hall of
spk_0 Famer.
spk_0 He was a wide receiver and a diva, but I've never seen it from a defensive line.
spk_0 He just stops in the middle of the field twice and kind of makes no effort to go after
spk_0 Trevor Lawrence and you could think that, hey, like, oh, he, he didn't realize, he thought
spk_0 the play was dead, he thought the reps blew the whistle.
spk_0 Well, in the post game, when he's talking about this, he gives no indication that that's
spk_0 what he thought, that he thought the play was over and thought the play was dead.
spk_0 He made no mention of it as best I could tell and I listened this morning, but let's
spk_0 play Chris Jones talking.
spk_0 This is sought number one after, after the game explaining what happened on that touchdown
spk_0 from Trevor Lawrence play the clip.
spk_0 I thought multiple times we had him, but we just got to finish.
spk_0 We got to finish.
spk_0 We had a multiple guys there that we just got to finish that play.
spk_0 It was a flute, flute play for him to be able to break that many talcals.
spk_0 But yeah, I think I put it on us as a defense.
spk_0 We got to finish.
spk_0 You know, we got to bring him down on that.
spk_0 So Chris Jones isn't, hey, I thought the play was over.
spk_0 No, he, hey, we got to finish.
spk_0 Hey, I thought these other guys were going to tackle him.
spk_0 I thought they were tackling him.
spk_0 I didn't think I had any responsibility to tackle him putting the words in his mouth.
spk_0 But this is crazy.
spk_0 And when you look at how the game was officiated, there was some weird officiating, some picking
spk_0 up a flag, some non throwing a flag.
spk_0 And then when I watched this ending and I saw Chris Jones's effort, it just undermines
spk_0 the credibility of football.
spk_0 It just, it's like, what am I watching here?
spk_0 This looks straight out of the WWE.
spk_0 And for an all time great defender on such a critical play to give that little effort,
spk_0 to seem to do, hey, we're going to let him score so that Patrick Maholms could come
spk_0 out here and lead us on a game when he touched down and drive.
spk_0 Maybe that's what he's thinking.
spk_0 But there's so little time on the clock.
spk_0 I can't believe he was thinking that.
spk_0 And so my mind just goes, and then people started pointing out, do you remember the first
spk_0 game of the season when Chris Jones, the all time great defender, just four or five weeks
spk_0 ago against the Los Angeles Chargers?
spk_0 He has contained, they line him up a defense event and they give him the container assignment
spk_0 and he goes inside and loses containment on Justin Herbert on 3rd and 14th and 14th,
spk_0 something like 3rd and 14 I believe.
spk_0 Justin Herbert breaks contained to the outside and runs for about 25 yards and one of
spk_0 the defense of backs for the Kansas City Chiefs goes off on Chris Jones.
spk_0 Like what are you doing man?
spk_0 When the last two minutes of the game, you got contained, we know this guy could hurt
spk_0 us with his legs and you could see, tranquil yelling and screaming at Chris Jones and
spk_0 people blame Chris Jones in week one.
spk_0 Like, hey man, you cost us the game here late.
spk_0 This boneheaded decision to rush inside and lose contained costs us again.
spk_0 You can see it here.
spk_0 I don't want the sound, but I do want to people to see the play.
spk_0 It's 3rd and 14 and you know, they're in man coverage and it's a ridiculous decision
spk_0 by Chris Jones here.
spk_0 We're not going to, we just got the still shot, but he's the left defensive and it's
spk_0 a bit of a loss.
spk_0 I don't get it.
spk_0 I got to, I don't understand what Chris Jones is doing at the end of the charges game.
spk_0 And now in on Monday night football and I think this was Sunday night football, the season
spk_0 opener or, you know, I'm wrong about that.
spk_0 I don't think it was Sunday night, but it was a big game all lies on the charges and she
spk_0 sorry, I remember watching the game.
spk_0 Chris Jones, according to his best I can tell, has now deleted his social media.
spk_0 He's deleted his ex account allegedly deleted his Instagram account and media initially last
spk_0 night.
spk_0 They're all in celebration mode of Trevor Lawrence.
spk_0 But no one last night pretty much was, you know, losing their mind about what is Chris
spk_0 Jones doing?
spk_0 I've never seen Aaron Donald do this.
spk_0 I never saw Warren sap do this.
spk_0 I never saw Lawrence Taylor do this.
spk_0 I never saw Joe Greene, Jack Lambert.
spk_0 I've never seen any of the great defensive players, particularly defensive line, particularly
spk_0 front seven people.
spk_0 Maybe you'll see a corner back loaf and think well, I can't make the play, but everybody
spk_0 else on the inside defensive line linebackers, safeties.
spk_0 This isn't Ronnie lot cutting off a finger so he can continue to play.
spk_0 This is an all time great defensive player.
spk_0 And I've had enough.
spk_0 I'm tapping out.
spk_0 I was a tripped out ending.
spk_0 I don't know what was an exciting game came down to the finish.
spk_0 The Jacksonville Jaguars are now four and one.
spk_0 The Kansas City Chiefs are now two and three.
spk_0 Yesterday, I was sitting here talking about, hey, the Chiefs going to win tonight and
spk_0 they'll be three and two and back in first place in the AFC West.
spk_0 That didn't happen and it's probably not going to happen.
spk_0 And something like that, when you put that kind of effort on film, again, most guys I know
spk_0 and I had some horrible practice film, horrible practice film.
spk_0 Coaches used to like me up about, man, what are you doing with Lockheed?
spk_0 We video tape and film everything.
spk_0 You loafing around here, we got you on tape.
spk_0 But most guys wouldn't put what Chris Jones put on tape even during their practice.
spk_0 No one wants, but you put that kind of effort on tape in a game.
spk_0 When you're in a fight for, you know, staying in relevancy for the playoffs and the
spk_0 win here to vision, that causes problems inside a locker room.
spk_0 And I know Chris Jones is a big dude.
spk_0 I know he's a valuable player, but he's a weirdo.
spk_0 You want to talk about Russell Wilson being a weirdo.
spk_0 Chris Jones last night put something on tape that brands him a weirdo and that's going
spk_0 to be hard to get the stench of that effort out of the Kansas City Chiefs locker room.
spk_0 The Chiefs may be done.
spk_0 All right.
spk_0 So I wanted to get that off my chest before we brought in Danny Canal.
spk_0 We'll ask Danny Canal about it.
spk_0 We got some other NFL questions.
spk_0 We'll ask Danny Canal, but got some college football stuff we want to talk with Danny about.
spk_0 Bill Belichek is getting roasted in North Carolina by the media.
spk_0 I mean, roasted.
spk_0 We'll get Danny Canal thoughts on that.
spk_0 Steve Sarkisians making excuses for the Texas Long Horns West.
spk_0 Danny about that.
spk_0 Anyway, stay tuned, Danny Canal.
spk_0 It is going to be an amazing day.
spk_0 Allyson's at Alibeth almost every day.
spk_0 I was so excited to just hear all the women that have been on Alice's podcast.

spk_0 I'm a man.
spk_0 All right.
spk_0 Welcome back.
spk_0 Danny Cannell joining us.
spk_0 Danny, did you watch Monday Night Football last night?
spk_0 And we'll start with Chris Jones.
spk_0 Have you ever seen an all-time great defensive player put that kind of effort on tape?
spk_0 On Monday Night Football or any NFL game?
spk_0 Not in that moment.
spk_0 You know, I'm sure if you went down maybe in a first quarter, you're trying to manage a game.
spk_0 You might try to take a playoff, but you're not going to make it that obvious.
spk_0 And I've never seen it with the game on the line.
spk_0 Like this is game on the line.
spk_0 It's the fourth quarter.
spk_0 Time is running out.
spk_0 Someone has to step up a play.
spk_0 You're supposed to be one of the best players in the entire NFL.
spk_0 Let alone just your team.
spk_0 And you stand around and watch.
spk_0 It's inexcusable.
spk_0 It really is.
spk_0 And you know, I get the feeling that Chris Jones is 31.
spk_0 He's been around the league 10 years.
spk_0 He's made a boatload of money.
spk_0 I think this is one of those situations where you get a little fat and happy.
spk_0 And you start feeling good about yourself.
spk_0 And you don't care as much about winning as you used to.
spk_0 You know, you don't care much about what people think as you're used to,
spk_0 including your own teammates,
spk_0 which is where I think will be the most interesting conversations after this game.
spk_0 What do his teammates say about the effort?
spk_0 Do they cover for him or do they call him out?
spk_0 Because I think he needs to be called out by somebody in that locker room,
spk_0 including Patrick Maholms.
spk_0 Well, he started the season against the chargers and was involved in a play there where he
spk_0 lost contained, clearly broke his assignment, went inside on an critical third and 14.
spk_0 And tranquil one of their safeties called him out right there on the field.
spk_0 I mean, he bickered and occupied with it.
spk_0 And so this isn't going to go unchallenged,
spk_0 but they need Chris Jones so bad that you can challenge him.
spk_0 But can you really challenge him?
spk_0 This type of effort, the organization, they,
spk_0 Andy Reid and he said they may have to
spk_0 suspend, find something because I don't know if this is a situation where the players can police it.
spk_0 Yeah, this is going to be tricky because he is one of your,
spk_0 one of the faces of your franchise.
spk_0 You're invested heavily in him financially.
spk_0 You don't want to lose him and have him turn it off for the season and just shut down emotionally.
spk_0 I think this is one where Andy Reid should call Chris Jones into the office and have a little sit
spk_0 down with him. I think that's the first thing.
spk_0 Find out where he is. What was he thinking? What was his excuse?
spk_0 You know, did he see Trevor Lawrence fall twice?
spk_0 But even if he did, he still could have chased him down at the end of the play.
spk_0 And most of the defensive players I've ever played against, I'm sure you experienced this too.
spk_0 It's almost annoying how they go till pass the whistle.
spk_0 Like if there's a, like there's an incomplete pass.
spk_0 And I was always annoyed because you throw an incomplete pass and it's down on the ground.
spk_0 And like some, some defender would be all excited.
spk_0 He'd pick it up like it was a scoop and scorn.
spk_0 You're like calm down, calm down.
spk_0 It's not.
spk_0 And this is the opposite of that.
spk_0 Like he shut it down before the play was over.
spk_0 So I think the first step I need to reach to do is talk to him in private.
spk_0 And I think Andy Reid might even want to have a talk with some of his other leaders on the team.
spk_0 Have them talk to him in private.
spk_0 I think probably the best step.
spk_0 And then that's assuming it hasn't happened already.
spk_0 You mentioned the play that happened in the charges.
spk_0 You wonder if this has happened already.
spk_0 Now if that's happened, then you have a way more significant problem.
spk_0 But I think having to talk with them personally, having some of your leadership,
spk_0 even calling him a home saying, hey, we got to get your guy.
spk_0 We got to get him on the same page.
spk_0 We need him.
spk_0 We need him to invest in this season because again, it looks like somebody who's made a lot of money.
spk_0 Who doesn't care as much as maybe he didn't his third or fourth year in the league.
spk_0 And it doesn't matter how good you are.
spk_0 If you mail it in in situations like that,
spk_0 you're going to get more of that until he changes his attitude.
spk_0 Yeah, I think this is another unintended consequence of the players making so much money.
spk_0 Because there's in football, there are always guys that play the game because they absolutely
spk_0 love the game.
spk_0 And then there are guys that play the game because they're good at the game.
spk_0 And they're kind of indifferent about how much they love the game.
spk_0 And I think that's why in recent years we've seen guys, I can't remember the name of the
spk_0 Colts defensive back that quit in the middle of a game at halftime.
spk_0 So I'm just done.
spk_0 I'm retiring.
spk_0 And we'll see guys in season.
spk_0 Hey, I'm done.
spk_0 I don't care.
spk_0 I think clearly Chris Jones at six foot five and 270.
spk_0 He's got the talent for the game.
spk_0 But what's becoming clear is he doesn't really love it.
spk_0 He's not LT that like this is my whole identity.
spk_0 And now they've made enough money that they really do have FU money.
spk_0 And we may have to they really do have FU money.
spk_0 And Chris Jones may have just said FU to the chiefs.
spk_0 And I mean, maybe he should retire, but that could get complicated.
spk_0 So I think Vante Adams, he was the player in the bills, right?
spk_0 That shut it down half time.
spk_0 Yeah, that was one of the wild.
spk_0 Vante Davis, David.
spk_0 Yeah, Vante Davis.
spk_0 It was Vernon Davis's brother.
spk_0 Yeah.
spk_0 That's who it was.
spk_0 Um, so I don't know if people realize this.
spk_0 I said this about 10 years ago as an ESPN and I was working with Racillo.
spk_0 And we were having a conversation very similar.
spk_0 Not about one player who looked like he quit.
spk_0 But I had a thought at the time that the majority of NFL players play for a
spk_0 paycheck, like it's not for love of the game.
spk_0 And I put it at 70% of NFL players are just playing to gain financial security,
spk_0 not because they love the game.
spk_0 Like I, and this is from an experience in a locker room talking to guys.
spk_0 Now the greats, the all time greats, I would say most of them,
spk_0 guys that I play with like John Lynch, uh, Rod Smith was a wide receiver for the Broncos.
spk_0 He played forever and he loved the sport.
spk_0 Jerry Rice loved the sport.
spk_0 Tom Brady, Pete Manning's like those all time greats.
spk_0 They clearly loved the game more than they loved what it brought to him.
spk_0 But do you go around a locker room if you pulled guys and said if you,
spk_0 and there, and a lot of times the conversation was what's your number?
spk_0 Like what's your number you're trying to get to?
spk_0 And at the time again 10 years ago you didn't have such huge massive contracts.
spk_0 It might have been 10 million in the bank.
spk_0 It might have been 20 million in the bank.
spk_0 But everybody kind of had their number.
spk_0 And it was kind of a conversation that you'd have around the teammates.
spk_0 You know, it was kind of, and so as soon as guys hit their number,
spk_0 yeah, they might take another year or two just to collect, get a little extra,
spk_0 get a little icing on the cake.
spk_0 But you can't tell me those players prepared his hard, played his hard,
spk_0 played through injuries as much as they would have,
spk_0 you know, earlier in their career when they didn't have that financial security.
spk_0 And now you take that 10 years ago to where you are now,
spk_0 where the amount of guaranteed money is so much more significant than it was even there.
spk_0 That was the one thing the NFL always had over baseball and the NBA
spk_0 was the lack of guaranteed contracts.
spk_0 And while they're not all guaranteed, the numbers that are guaranteed now
spk_0 are significant enough where you don't ever have to play again.
spk_0 We're talking, you know, 70 million, 80 million that is guaranteed at the time of signing,
spk_0 where that never was the case.
spk_0 And I always thought even as a player, which I wished I would,
spk_0 I would, I lost out on a lot of money that I did not receive because I was cut.
spk_0 But it did make the NFL feel different because you didn't have many guys go through the motions,
spk_0 even if they didn't love it, they had to earn that paycheck and they had to earn the next season.
spk_0 So they would show up.
spk_0 Now I think you're seeing more guys that have so much guaranteed money.
spk_0 They just don't simply care as much about the effort, the outcome,
spk_0 and what goes into making them great players.
spk_0 Man, 70% is a high number and I may send it, but I actually believe you.
spk_0 And I actually think you're right and that, you know, I'm being a bit naive
spk_0 because you get, you start to lose the love of the game probably in college
spk_0 because it becomes so business-like and it becomes so difficult.
spk_0 And, you know, the wear and tear in your body really starts to show up.
spk_0 And then you're just trying to, unless you're Ray Lewis or some of these,
spk_0 you're just to end read, you're just trying to make it to the finish line and you're right.
spk_0 And you have a number in mind and there's so many layers to that thought.
spk_0 Because when I look at one of the main things that I thought listening to, I was like,
spk_0 man, this is why Dan Campbell's having so much success because he's one of the few coaches
spk_0 that has the personality that can perhaps get that 70% down to 50% in his locker room.
spk_0 Whereas other locker rooms, you may be able to out-exano Dan Campbell,
spk_0 but they're running at 75%, 80% is just in it for the check.
spk_0 And so it can change your approach to coaching and it may be, and I'm just thinking
spk_0 it's through in real time because you blow my mind. But this may be like why Bill Belichet quit
spk_0 working in the NFL and is a flop in college football because the motivation and the psyche of the
spk_0 players has been so dramatically changed by the money. And it's a game that unless you're playing
spk_0 quarterback or one of the lesser contact positions, the love just, it's hard to maintain the love
spk_0 and the passion. So I mean, having you always heard that you find a job that you would do for free,
spk_0 right? No, no one would do a job for free, but you want to find something you love so much that
spk_0 you would do it for free. When I say 70%, that's kind of the number I'm talking about.
spk_0 Like if the money went away, how many guys would put putting their bodies through what they go through,
spk_0 would they still keep putting out the effort there if it was for free? And I think that number's
spk_0 30% of the guys that would do it. And in the NBA, Major League Baseball, what do we see in the
spk_0 offseason? We see a lot of pickup hoops games taking place. Baseball, we see players go to Dominican,
spk_0 they play fall baseball. Like I think there's more of a love and a passion for those sports that
spk_0 they just want to play them because they're fun to play. And I do think that a culture that Dan
spk_0 Campbell, I think it is fun to play for Dan Campbell because he creates an atmosphere that is heavily
spk_0 invested. It's us. It's the kind of old school team mentality. So I think that kind of has gotten
spk_0 that number down to where and that's that's the hardest part of the evaluation process. I remember
spk_0 John Groot and every coach would do this, but you know, Groot and would talk to his players in
spk_0 quarterbacks and he still does it and he would ask them and I got asked that said the combine.
spk_0 How much do you love football? How much do you love the sport? And every coach wants to know that
spk_0 because they want the player that truly loves the sport, but any player that combine interview
spk_0 isn't going to say, well, it's all right. I just want to make 10 mil. No, they're all going to
spk_0 tell you, I love football. I'm a gym rat. I'm going to their study and film, you know, all day long.
spk_0 And yet that's not the reality of what guys mindset really is. A lot of them love the fame. They love
spk_0 the money and they love what it brings them long term. And as soon as that's done or they've got
spk_0 their number, they're going to start going through cruise control. And that's what I wonder with
spk_0 a Chris Jones. If he's at the point of his career, 10 years in, multiple Super Bowl rings,
spk_0 financial security, if he's sort of on cruise control, like, I don't need to make that play.
spk_0 I'm fine. You know, that's a problem for the lead. That's a real problem for the lead.
spk_0 That's why they fought guaranteed contracts for so long.
spk_0 Yeah, this is and this, man, you blow my mind and maybe think about things.
spk_0 This may be why they're leaning so hard into flag football. And hey, let's play flag football
spk_0 in Olympics and have our guys because this current deal may not be sustainable. That may be why,
spk_0 you know, the whole gambling thing, they've leaned so heavily. And again, hey, watch because of
spk_0 the gambling and ignore the fact that the players really don't want to play. I was literally just
spk_0 talking to a long time NFL player and he'll probably, I'll get him on the show and let him say it,
spk_0 but I'm not going to say his name, but he was talking about he used to play for the Baltimore Ravens.
spk_0 And he made some comments that I didn't follow up with him on just in private because I didn't
spk_0 know where he was going. But the Ravens got a lot of injuries right now. And he was kind of calling
spk_0 BS on all the injuries and suggested that like, man, somebody's guys ain't really hurt. And this
spk_0 is a guy that's still connected to the franchise played there a long time. And now I hear him completely
spk_0 different. You, you've helped take some scales off my eyes, Danny. This is great stuff.
spk_0 I guarantee you when they see some of the other all pros out and they're thinking, man,
spk_0 this may be not great for me financially. If I have a poor game on tape without my guys next to me,
spk_0 you know, if I have a poor performance, so I'm just going to shut it down like in the guaranteed
spk_0 money. And if the coaches could sniff that out 10, 15 years ago, you might be worried about getting
spk_0 cut. Now they don't really have that fear because the guaranteed money that's there. I do think
spk_0 it's a real issue. And I think it's the hardest evaluation for coaches to make both coming out of
spk_0 college, find out who truly wants to be great versus who wants to gain financial freedom.
spk_0 And in free agency, same thing. And you've got to try so hard to do your due diligence and
spk_0 find that out, but it's almost impossible to do. Danny, I want to move on to Bill Bela check here.
spk_0 Wow, because you've given me a lot to think about, but I want to play you this news clip. Bill
spk_0 Bela check's getting lit up in North Carolina. The local news media is really tearing into him.
spk_0 I think this guy's name's Pat Welter. He works for, I think, W-R-A-L-T-V in North Carolina.
spk_0 Let's play the clip. Yeah, I'm here and there's no culture, no organization. It is a complete disaster.
spk_0 Those are the kind of quotes I'm getting from sources with first-hand knowledge of the
spk_0 inner workings of Bill Bela check's football program. So we talked to players, parents,
spk_0 members of the coaching staff, the board of trustees, and the athletic departments that
spk_0 try to paint a complete picture of what's going on behind the scenes here. According to sources,
spk_0 a divide formed naturally when Bela check was hired. Background players versus the transfers.
spk_0 The way Bela check has run the program hasn't breached the gap, it's only made it grow.
spk_0 According to multiple sources, UNC has a divided locker room, a disorganized staff,
spk_0 and an overall failure to communicate. A divide is natural when you have MacBrown air players,
spk_0 and the 70 new ones Bela check brought in. But according to sources, preferential treatment and
spk_0 a lack of leadership has added to the discontent. One source said they don't fault the players,
spk_0 they fault the leadership that created this toxic environment. There's an individualistic mindset.
spk_0 Here are the example sources shared with us. Some players and their parents have better
spk_0 parking and stadium access on game days. Players who miss class and meetings aren't being held
spk_0 accountable. Players are selling their spare game tickets rather than sharing them with teammates.
spk_0 The non-travel roster players don't get to dress for home games. Something you might see from
spk_0 an NFL practice player, but not in college football, adding to an overall lack of unity within the team.
spk_0 Parents say they have zero communication with coaches and were asked not to approach Bela check,
spk_0 a stark contrast from the open door approach of MacBrown. One source said the lack of experience
spk_0 the coaches have is ridiculous. Bela check himself has been praised by multiple sources for his
spk_0 one-on-one coaching. It's his ability to run the program that's being questioned by parents and
spk_0 players. One source said, Bill shuts people out. He's limited in what he says. Chancellor Lee
spk_0 Roberts preached patience when discussing Bela check at a board of trustees meeting last week.
spk_0 Even after the Clemson loss, the feeling within the UNC Athletic Department remains the same.
spk_0 Given the investment they've made, patience is the path, but they also understand that they hired
spk_0 Bela check knowing he didn't have college experience. They would like to help support Bela check
spk_0 in the players. Bela check needs to be willing to receive it at the same time.
spk_0 Overall, the feeling from sources is that the little points of the vision have become big and
spk_0 you're seeing it now on the field. All right, North Carolina is getting their butt kicked nearly
spk_0 every time they take the field. This thing's been a disaster. I listened to that news report, Danny,
spk_0 and I connected to what we were talking about earlier and what you brought up on the table. It's
spk_0 era football and the leverage that players have over organizations, teams, coaches has completely
spk_0 changed and Bill Bela check just isn't built for this. It's been a disaster and this is coming from
spk_0 somebody who wanted it to work. Like as a college football guy, right? That's my passion. That's my
spk_0 main sport that I cover. I was really excited to see if this potentially could come together in
spk_0 something special, something that we could root for, something that would be a great story.
spk_0 Jim Harbaugh going back to Michigan, Michigan man, but obviously Jim Harbaugh had experience
spk_0 in college at San Diego and at Stanford. Bill Bela check coming to the college game. I think it's
spk_0 been a rude awakening for him and Michael Lombardi, his general manager of just how much of a
spk_0 challenge this is and just how different this is than the NFL. And the question is where does
spk_0 Carolina go from here? This might be the worst and now there's still a lot of games left,
spk_0 but the way it's unfolding, this might be the worst football season in the history of North
spk_0 Carolina football, which is a program that, you know, I know it's a basketball school and they get
spk_0 that, but they have had 10 win seasons. They have had great players like Lawrence Taylor. They've had
spk_0 football program that was at least respectable, including when they had Mac Brown, who was somebody
spk_0 winning and I know he was six and six as last season, but he at least had a team that was way more
spk_0 competitive than this. It's been one of the biggest disasters out there. And the thing that I think
spk_0 is really interesting is there is such a different mindset in college versus pro. And I do think it's
spk_0 kind of turning into minor league NFL where you're getting players, getting more pay and they're
spk_0 starting to become more like professional athletes, but I go around, I talk to a lot of different
spk_0 college football coaches and you know one thing that they are there's one or two traits that they
spk_0 all have that are very similar. One is very high energy like most of them are pretty high energy.
spk_0 They bring a lot of passion for the game and they're great motivators like they just have an
spk_0 ability of great motivational speeches. When I see Bill Belicek and he's grumbling at the microphone
spk_0 or he's walking out in the field. Again, go watch most of the coaches. They run out with their team.
spk_0 They kind of lead their team out in the field. Belicek he's coming out through the tunnel. He steps
spk_0 aside and just kind of walks real slow. Shoulders hunch. He doesn't look excited at all. Didn't even
spk_0 have some like any look of excitement on his face. That doesn't work in college. You have to have
spk_0 your team up and ready to go even at practice. You have to get your players up at NFL. Coaches
spk_0 don't have to do it. Some of them are great at it. Dan Campbell's one who kind of gets the best of
spk_0 both worlds, but at practice, it's just like punching in for work. Those guys know the drill. They'll
spk_0 do what it takes to get prepared. College, you have to get your guys up seven days a week and most
spk_0 coaches are high energy. They're passionate. They have a passion for their players. And Bill
spk_0 Belicek is lacking all of it. It's just been a complete disaster. And I wonder, I think if he
spk_0 rips the bandit off and he says, you know what? This is a mistake after one year. I think he can
spk_0 survive his legacy. I know it's been a popular conversation. But if he draws this thing out,
spk_0 I think it does impact his legacy long term. You know, he'll always remember. Be remembered as a
spk_0 great NFL coach, maybe the greatest ever. But if he draws this out, I do wonder what it does to
spk_0 his legacy long term. It's not going to be quite Russell Wilson damage, but it is going to do some
spk_0 damage. He's done some damage to his legacy in the second half. Danny, I was expecting you to go
spk_0 here, but let me see if I can make a point as powerful as you did about the 70% deal.
spk_0 So, listen, you talk me, re-listening to the WRR, the TV report. And you mentioned high energy
spk_0 and great motivator. And where I think energy and motivation come from with a lot of these coaches
spk_0 is I'm seeing more coaches in my view lean into their faith walk as part of their motivational
spk_0 instruction to their team. And I can remember Tom Allen had some, I believe this is right, this
spk_0 is the guy that was before Kirk's igniting, he had some success at Indiana. And a lot of it came from
spk_0 his faith walk and that established a connection with his players. And this is at the height of like
spk_0 the Black Lives Matter deal if my memory is right. And the players at Indiana just love Tom Allen.
spk_0 And it's because he led with his faith and that bridge the gap with all the Black Lives Matter
spk_0 garbage. And it's like, man, I just love my coach. And I think I've seen Lane Kiffin acknowledge
spk_0 his faith walk publicly more. I'm seeing coaches understand, like man, they put me in a tight spot
spk_0 here, you know, that they've changed up all the dynamics. They got this whole racial conversation
spk_0 going on, but my greatest shield is to put on the armor of God so that I can connect with these
spk_0 guys. I look at Ohio State and what Ryan Day and what they got going on in their locker room.
spk_0 And the success they keep having and Bill Bella check, you know, I don't know if he
spk_0 has a thought outside of an X and O, a defensive X and O, who knows if he has a relationship with God,
spk_0 he seems to keep everything so impersonal that he just can't connect with players on that level.
spk_0 And so that's where I think Bill may be out of step and what seems to be the antidote
spk_0 for this highly divisive error that we're in is you better be right with God and you better
spk_0 be willing to share it with your players. Yes, I don't think it's a requirement, but I think it
spk_0 helps. I mean, I chose Florida State because Bobby Bowden was a man of faith. He came into my house
spk_0 and we prayed together and that was a huge reason. Mark Richt was my quarterback coach, another one
spk_0 that had devotions. We read a devotion before our quarterback meetings every day before practice.
spk_0 Only took five, 10 minutes, but it was meaningful to me. And so, and you mentioned Ohio State,
spk_0 they've had a revival there on campus that the football players are actually leading on campus.
spk_0 I think those are great stories, but I think ultimately it has to be there's something bigger than
spk_0 yourselves. And I think some coaches use that for faith. Davos Wien is a great one. It has to be
spk_0 bigger than yourselves. There's an unselfishness about faith where you look out for others greater
spk_0 than yourselves, but at the very least, you've got to sell the team is more than important in
spk_0 yourself. And that was probably the most concerning thing I've seen or read about Bill Belichek's.
spk_0 It's very individualistic and guys are getting preferential treatment. His guys versus Mack Brown's
spk_0 you can tell there's factions within that locker room. So whether it's faith that he has to get
spk_0 him to come together or trying to build some sort of team environment where there is something more
spk_0 important than myself, it's only going to continue to go sideways or worse downhill. You need to find
spk_0 the piece. There's a piece from Michael Lombardi that he wrote. It's like 14,500 words and it's an
spk_0 essay that he wrote to the boosters, alumni, backers of North Carolina. And it's laugh out,
spk_0 it's laugh out loud, funny. He goes back and he talks about growing up in Pennsylvania and then he
spk_0 talks about Sam Presti and the job he did with the Sixers. And I kid you not. The last paragraph
spk_0 says we all need to stick together at Carolina and trust the process. I don't, does he understand
spk_0 the Sixers were tanking for a reason? Like they were tanking to get draft picks. There's no
spk_0 advantage to tanking in college football. It was like, well, are we even paying attention to the
spk_0 sport that you're, you're working in? It's, it's worth going to look up because it is so out of touch.
spk_0 And by the way, the personnel evaluation has been one of the major problems for North Carolina
spk_0 because they did spend a lot of money on players that aren't very good. So somebody has to take
spk_0 the ownership of misevaluating a lot of those players they sign in the transfer portal.
spk_0 Well, the whole individualistic deal and that there's no rallying point for everybody to buy into
spk_0 it's like every coach that they, you know, when they jump to a new school, they put on the full armor
spk_0 of Clemson or whatever university they're working for and they sell the history and they try to
spk_0 and Bill Belichick, according to reports, has, has basically told everybody, hey,
spk_0 on his staff, you can't talk about the Patriots. And Drake May just had this incredible game.
spk_0 And he's a former North Carolina player and no one on the staff, the school, they, they can't
spk_0 celebrate Drake May. And, and, and I'm just, this is insanity, Bill. What you do, you got to
spk_0 think this through your vision has to be farther than, hey, just satisfying my fleshly desires and
spk_0 instant gratification. I hate the Patriots. So I want you to hate the Patriots and we don't care
spk_0 if our quarterback is in North blah, blah, blah. And, and the last thing I'll say and ask you to
spk_0 comment on, your head coach has to have some sort of aura that when he comes into the room,
spk_0 everybody gets a little nervous and, you know, the assistant coaches come in and no one really cares.
spk_0 Head coach comes in and there's a nervousness. This thing with this young girl, I think when Bill
spk_0 is 24 year old, you giggle. Hey, our coach has a sugar baby and I just think he's undermined his
spk_0 aura with the young girl and with some of these silly rules about the Patriots. And he, he just
spk_0 looks like a petty kid. You know, I'm so mad at the Patriots. Let's don't talk about him. And,
spk_0 I got this 24 year old sugar, but he's undermined his aura.
spk_0 You're assuming that was his decision. You know, who, you know, who's the CEO of Bela Check
spk_0 Productions. I forget her title, but she's in charge. A lot of his social media, a lot of his
spk_0 policies. She might be the one that is mandated that he doesn't talk about the Patriots. You know,
spk_0 hey, baby, you got screwed by them. You're the greatest coach of all time. You shouldn't, you shouldn't
spk_0 be out there. Don't even acknowledge them on social media. Maybe that mandate is coming from her.
spk_0 And you talk about the, the jitters in the locker room. I mean, when you go out there and you
spk_0 take some of the photos they've taken and other schools are openly mocking you after those game.
spk_0 TCU, did you see their offensive lineman? They reenacted. They had the player. They had two of their
spk_0 offensive linemen. It was great. TCU. One of them was the mermaid and the other one was the
spk_0 fisherman and he's real in a minute like mocking that photo. UCF, when they beat them, they made like
spk_0 the score into the pose when she's doing the gymnastics pose or whatever it is. I mean, now you're
spk_0 becoming the joke of college football. I agree. Those players are probably looking at it almost
spk_0 embarrassed by the fact that their coach, they thought was going to be the greatest coach ever
spk_0 is going to come in here and turn this program around is becoming a laughing stock of college football
spk_0 being let around like a puppy from his 24 year old girlfriend. I agree. I think it has undermined
spk_0 his authority as of one of the greatest coaches ever. Danny, very quickly, I want to play you a
spk_0 Steve Sarkisian clip where he, hey, man, we played at the swap. We played Ohio State. No one else
spk_0 can do it other than us. I want to get your reaction. Let's hear from Steve Sarkisian. Steve,
spk_0 you know, you're having led in either your games against Power 4 teams and I'm just curious how
spk_0 so many people including myself could be wrong about your team and how stunned are you?
spk_0 I don't know if I'm stunned. I mean, take the other, how many teams are there in college football?
spk_0 130, 36. Take the other 135 and have them go play out of Ohio State and have the swamp. See how they do.
spk_0 So good, good look, bad look. He's got to spin it the way he has, but where he looks really
spk_0 foolish is we have a couple teams that at least be one in one versus that schedule, including
spk_0 USF, the South Florida Bulls went into the swamp and beat the same Florida Gator team that you
spk_0 could not get it done. Ohio State is one thing and to bring out 135, I don't just say you're,
spk_0 just say you're a work in progress. Just be a more little open and transparent as opposed to
spk_0 making excuses for it. The other thing I do think he's trying to deflect is archmaning who had
spk_0 massive unrealistic expectations that were heaped on him. He very clearly has not reached those.
spk_0 I think he'll be fine next year. That was my whole take this year. I said, Texas is not going to
spk_0 make the playoffs because archmaning is not ready. It's going to be a roller coaster. He'll have his
spk_0 up moments like he did against Sam Houston when he has a big game and he's stepping over a player
spk_0 and taunting him, trying to will himself emotionally and talk himself into being this player that
spk_0 everybody wants him to be. And he's going to have his low moments like he did against Ohio State and
spk_0 like he did at times against Florida, but ultimately to ask a first year starter no matter what how many
spk_0 stars of all that to have that player with the amount of pieces you had that were gone to ask him to
spk_0 repeat, you know, and take you back to a final four for the third time in a row was was completely
spk_0 asked nine from the get go. Everyone was way too far ahead of themselves on archmaning and actually
spk_0 feel bad for him because he didn't ask for any of it and yet it's all been heaped on him and
spk_0 areas and people are like, Oh, he's a bust. I think he'll be fine next year. I just think this year
spk_0 is going to be a long year for him. So I want to be click because we're obviously we're taping
spk_0 this and I want to remember what you said. You think we've gone too far the other extreme because
spk_0 I think the guys of bust and he's done his confidence is going to be ruined this year all the scrutiny.
spk_0 Young guy that's going to have to deal with all these social media memes. I think he's done. You think
spk_0 next year he'll be an all conference level player maybe in the all-American race.
spk_0 I get an asterisk. He has to survive this year because I think you brought up a really good point.
spk_0 He I think he's got he's always been the favorite like the favorite son, the favorite nephew,
spk_0 whatever it is and he excelled in high school. He's as a backup of Texas. He was the savior.
spk_0 Everyone loved him and for the first time in every quarterback has to deal with this. Every player
spk_0 has to deal with this but quarterbacks more specific because of the scrutiny. For the first time
spk_0 he's going to start getting some of that serious criticism and he's going to start here in booze
spk_0 from his own fans and he's going to start. I don't think he's on social media. He hasn't the count
spk_0 but I would I would advise him not to go there and really try to insulate himself from the
spk_0 criticism but I do think early you've seen his confidence fractured and as long as he can withstand
spk_0 this season which I think he will like he's starting to play a little bit better still miss and
spk_0 throws. As long as he can withstand this season I think he'll be all right but if if the confidence
spk_0 goes and he starts getting fractured then it is all bets off the table and he'll have to go
spk_0 somewhere else which is kind of crazy considering everybody had him as the number one pick in the
spk_0 NFL draft but it might be hey you just need to change a scenery but I think he survives. I think
spk_0 Sark's a really good quarterback coach. I think they'll put him in good situations. Like I said I
spk_0 think they're nine and three or eight and four and then he's got to really kind of go back to work
spk_0 and take that next step forward. I just didn't see it this year. Danny thank you so much. Great job.
spk_0 We'll see you next time. Thank you so much.
spk_0 I'm
spk_0 amazing. Wow everyone's flying in from everywhere. So many conferences focused on women's emotions
