Hello everyone! Welcome back to Chemistry 101 with Ms. Swarter, where I break down the
spk_0
basics and advance of chemistry so you can easily understand.
spk_0
Last episode we talked about atomic structure and I asked you to work out the protons,
spk_0
electrons, electrons and the neutrons of oxygen and guess what guys I'm gonna reply. Let's hear it!
spk_0
Oxygen is atomic number 8. That means the amount of protons are 8 as well and there are 8
spk_0
electrons. The mass number of oxygen is 16. The number of neutrons are found by subtracting the
spk_0
atomic number from the mass number. Therefore oxygen has 8 neutrons.
spk_0
Yes indeed! That is correct! Thank you everyone for applying our eggs. So hope you guys
spk_0
know. So symbols are based on the name of the element, for example. Hydrogen is atomic number 1.
spk_0
Its symbol is H. Argon is atomic number 18. Its symbol is AR.
spk_0
The symbol might not always be directly related to the name of the element, as in potassium.
spk_0
Potassium is atomic number 19. The symbol for potassium is K. K stands for Calium. Can you guys
spk_0
please send me a message to be featured in the next podcast? Telling me what Calium has to do
spk_0
with potassium. Okay so on the periodic table the elements are typically always related by the symbols.
spk_0
So either the left or the right hand side of these symbols you have at the top, the mass number
spk_0
and at the bottom there is the atomic number.
spk_0
For a basic knowledge and understanding of things in chemistry it is important that you all know
spk_0
the element symbols, their mass and atomic numbers for elements 1 to 20 on the periodic table.
spk_0
Thank you guys for touring this episode. This episode was really simple and I really hope that you guys
spk_0
you guys learned something and I can't wait to see you all in the next episode. Wait wait guys
spk_0
before you go I forgot my chemistry joke. Alright this one's simple. A covalent bond
spk_0
yells to an ionic bond. Hey didn't anybody ever teach you how to share but wait. You guys aren't laughing
spk_0
oh my next episode is about bonding. You guys are gonna get my jokes don't worry. I have y'all. Alright so
spk_0
have a great one again. Tune in next time for episode 3.
