spk_0 This is an iHeart podcast.
spk_0 I don't even know why I'm posting. I forgot to ask you this the other day, but I'm not going to forget twice.
spk_0 This dude called a postseason game.
spk_0 Yeah, for about 45 seconds.
spk_0 Did it check it off the list?
spk_0 I'm there. I got a lot of good feedback from ESPN and the boys there.
spk_0 And the only thing I did wrong is I forgot who was hitting.
spk_0 That's you know what it's hard.
spk_0 When I got there, they're like, all right, well, he's not back.
spk_0 Go ahead and I said, all right, here we go.
spk_0 And I'm not mentioning, you know, I just started rambling some shit off.
spk_0 I'm using some of it.
spk_0 And the way it went, man, it was a lot of fun.
spk_0 It's something, you know, to think about, I think that'd be pretty cool to try and,
spk_0 you know, call be the play-by-play guy.
spk_0 And it's, it's, I tell you what, it's a lot more work.
spk_0 Don't give me wrong. I do all my homework.
spk_0 I do a lot, but I understand if you have the top dog like Scott has been,
spk_0 you know, his whole career. It's a different ballgame.
spk_0 So it was fun for the 45 seconds to a minute.
spk_0 I had it, but I was relieved when Sean got back in there for sure.
spk_0 What happened? Are you allowed to share?
spk_0 Yeah, I mean, I, I think the door when he left to go get something real quick,
spk_0 locked behind him. That's what he told us.
spk_0 And no, he was banging on the door.
spk_0 I guess the crowd was too loud.
spk_0 He couldn't hear him.
spk_0 And finally, I guess the security guy that was there
spk_0 had something to open the door up.
spk_0 We have a code red,
spk_0 a national broadcaster for, you know, for this game,
spk_0 can't not get into the broadcaster with code red.
spk_0 You know, I guess rule of thumb, don't ever lock the door anywhere.
spk_0 Don't ever shut the door just in case.
spk_0 So security was tight there, which is good.
spk_0 Yeah, we like that. We like that.
spk_0 But Todd Fother was a play-by-play guy for game one.
spk_0 It was game one.
spk_0 Yeah, towards the beginning of game one.
spk_0 Yeah, yep. So there you go.
spk_0 If you want to look back, I'm sure you can find it somewhere.
spk_0 Now, later today, we are going to do a post-game show
spk_0 on the Mariners and Tigers.
spk_0 We are crossing fingers that'll start on time.
spk_0 That'd be cool.
spk_0 I know that it's a little wet out in Detroit.
spk_0 So hopefully not too cray.
spk_0 But Mariners Tigers game three series is tied at one.
spk_0 We've been doing post-game shows.
spk_0 We had one late on Monday night.
spk_0 We did the Cubs, Brewers follow up.
spk_0 And then we also broke down the Phillies and Dodgers.
spk_0 We'll talk more about those series throughout the show here.
spk_0 But just letting you know that we did do live shows and post videos
spk_0 in case you missed them for post-game thoughts.
spk_0 Now, let's charge.
spk_0 All right, Todd Fother. We haven't had you on since the Blue Jays
spk_0 smacked the Yankees.
spk_0 I know you like to virtually smack aircrats.
spk_0 This was in person here.
spk_0 Two games, tons of offense from Toronto.
spk_0 Yankees showed some fight in game two.
spk_0 But overall, for a team that you've covered all year,
spk_0 really you've seen both the Yankees and the Blue Jays quite frequently.
spk_0 Your thoughts on these two so far.
spk_0 Well, not very good.
spk_0 If you want the truth, let's say the spade of space.
spk_0 Not very good for the Yankees.
spk_0 Right. Yeah, that's what I meant.
spk_0 If people know me, they understand where I'm coming from.
spk_0 To give up that many runs.
spk_0 I remember I was watching.
spk_0 I was at my sister-in-law, a little birthday party.
spk_0 I'm sitting there watching a game.
spk_0 You know, we're all rooting for the Yankees.
spk_0 Base is loaded and you got Aaron Judge up with nobody out.
spk_0 Here we go, the time to come.
spk_0 And he swung a ball for.
spk_0 You could feel it after that.
spk_0 It's like, ah, yeah, you got to run in from Belinger.
spk_0 And then you get one run with bases loaded.
spk_0 You're still down two to one.
spk_0 The wheels fell off.
spk_0 I don't know.
spk_0 Toronto just has their number this year.
spk_0 And it's kind of amazing.
spk_0 I'm not saying Blue Jays aren't a good team,
spk_0 but it just seems like it shouldn't be this far of a disconnect of
spk_0 runs scored and everything else.
spk_0 Goes to show you that Toronto is one of the best places to play in.
spk_0 One of the toughest places to win in,
spk_0 in a playoff atmosphere.
spk_0 Vlad Guerrero, I mean, Holy cow, Jr.
spk_0 He's taking off, you know, no bulb of shit.
spk_0 And this guy says, you know what?
spk_0 I got this.
spk_0 I'll take the reins.
spk_0 Give me the reins.
spk_0 I got it.
spk_0 I mean, you look at his numbers.
spk_0 Absolutely silly right now.
spk_0 And he MVP right now status for him.
spk_0 And the pitchen has been absolutely phenomenal.
spk_0 Kevin Gosman, I mean, we knew how good of a pitcher he was.
spk_0 He just stepping up that I think is a split change that he throws is absolutely filthy.
spk_0 Looks like a fastball falls off the planet earth.
spk_0 I mean, got to swing at it because it looks so tasty.
spk_0 But yeah, I mean, there's so much more you can say about this team.
spk_0 They are just getting pushed in.
spk_0 They are just getting absolutely crushing.
spk_0 That's the Yankees and they got to figure it out.
spk_0 Been a part of both them.
spk_0 Been with the Yankees when we're down O2 against the Guardians.
spk_0 And now we're going to have to step up and win to it home.
spk_0 You guys won that series.
spk_0 Yeah, we came back in one three in a row.
spk_0 And I've been on the other end too.
spk_0 Yeah, we'd be we're up against the Giants in 2014,
spk_0 13 maybe.
spk_0 And 12 or 14.
spk_0 12 or 11.
spk_0 12, excuse me.
spk_0 And we go to San Fran and we want to in a row and we're flying home feeling really good.
spk_0 And then you know, an error in the in the top of the ninth, they won three two.
spk_0 And you see it, it's that one game.
spk_0 It's that momentum shift.
spk_0 If you can win game three and best out of five, it just turns it just a little bit more to be like,
spk_0 the other like Toronto.
spk_0 If the Yankees win today, all of a sudden Toronto is going to be on their heels.
spk_0 The Yankees got nothing to lose.
spk_0 They got to go out and dominate.
spk_0 Toronto's like, all right, we still have two games, but we'd like to win here.
spk_0 So it's that psyche and that mentality of we don't want to get it to a game five.
spk_0 So game three is very, very important.
spk_0 So I would play the Indians in 2017 and
spk_0 big thing I remember a grand slam kind of broke our back in that in that game.
spk_0 Kind of like a grand slam broke the Yankees back by by Vladie.
spk_0 Kind of wasn't even that close when we were in Cleveland.
spk_0 And I remember sitting in a bullpen like, really?
spk_0 These guys are beating us.
spk_0 And then we went back home.
spk_0 Took game three and then you had the Andrew Miller Greg Bird game.
spk_0 When you go back home, you have the exact same ability to dominate the team that you dominated
spk_0 at home during a regular season.
spk_0 I think that Blue Jays correct me if I'm wrong.
spk_0 Are one and eight?
spk_0 And their last nine games at Yankees stadium.
spk_0 So to me, I think it kind of shifts to the Yankees a little bit.
spk_0 But the Yankees got to come out and they got to get on top here because you can't keep playing
spk_0 from behind, especially from behind two or three runs.
spk_0 And this episode is presented by Fox one, our presenting sponsor for the next few weeks here.
spk_0 The playoff coverage is brought to you by Fox one on foul territory because we want to
spk_0 keep reminding everyone that all ALDS and ALCS games playoff games and the World Series can be found
spk_0 on Fox one. And if you want to try it out, you've got a seven day free trial that you can go to
spk_0 Fox one.com for we post the description, the link to the description in the episode with our
spk_0 FT links. If you want to click that and give us a little love, that would be cool.
spk_0 We're working our asses off all post season long.
spk_0 And you can see that Tigers Mariners game that Przyski and Wayne Raid and Adam Amin are going
spk_0 to be calling. Again, if you're like, ah, I don't have an option here.
spk_0 Fox one seven day free trial. Go check it out.
spk_0 They have live goats.
spk_0 You like that? He looks handsome there. He does. He does. It's a great headshot form.
spk_0 Anyway, stream all your Fox favorites together in one place at the Fox one app.
spk_0 Don't you think this is going to be a tough team to beat three in a row regardless?
spk_0 Regardless. Based on some of the standout pitching that they have. And I know that could be looked at
spk_0 as the weaker point of the team, right? Maybe parts of the bullpen. But I think there are enough
spk_0 talented arms. There's enough contact in the offense. It's about who's clicking at the right
spk_0 times. This is a boba, shirtless offense too. By the way, that looks really damn good right now.
spk_0 But like you said, body has the ability to be a top five hitter in the sport.
spk_0 He's doing that right now. He's tough to strike out. He'll take a walk. And he's got crazy pop.
spk_0 And dream bat. And he's not afraid of the moment. And I think that's the biggest thing.
spk_0 You see him stepping up in these moments. There's not more you can say about the guy. He's
spk_0 absolutely phenomenal. You know, you say, oh, he had a bad year. You know, I remember two years ago,
spk_0 he didn't at a home run at home until halfway during the season, something like that.
spk_0 The dude can freaking flat out play. And that's the issue. There's not one pitch you can get by him.
spk_0 You get O2. Don't make a mistake. He's looking for that pitch. And he's been absolutely filthy with it.
spk_0 And you know, I always talk about riding that wave scooter. And next thing you know, it's like,
spk_0 God, how can the Yankees do this? But they can. They do have the firepower.
spk_0 They have to find a win to win this one. And then game four, we don't know if it's a bullpen game
spk_0 for the for the blue jays or not. But if it is with Camp Schletler, who's riding really high right now,
spk_0 we could see this going back to Toronto. But again, this is the most important game.
spk_0 Win the day and move forward. Stop worrying about where you're at in placement.
spk_0 Mm hmm. Hey, I thought the blue jays made a brilliant trade pickup with the Shane Bieber acquisition
spk_0 at the deadline. And this is his time to shine. Bieber's been around for a while. I know he hasn't had a
spk_0 ton of starts yet since coming back from the surgery, but he's not going to be phased at Yankee Stadium.
spk_0 Not at all. Not at all. It's good. But to me, this matchups kind of a wash. I mean, I feel like they're
spk_0 both number two ish starters. Shane Bieber reminds me of that Dylan C's kind of attitude.
spk_0 Just like, here we go. Grip it, a rep it. Who's my best pitches? You can hit it. Go ahead. But most
spk_0 of the time, you're really not going to hit it. So I see. Go ahead. No, you're fine. No, no, about
spk_0 the pitching matchup, crats. I mean, do you think there's an edge? I mean, I think Rodan's had a
spk_0 little bit of trouble against the blue jays because he's been walking guys and obviously they're
spk_0 not going to strike out a ton. So that's where I see the issue there. But I think Bieber has the
spk_0 edge if, and I'm going back to 2020. And I said this to Bieber when he was on the show here.
spk_0 He was tipping in 2020 in Cleveland. They were they were the home team because
spk_0 COVID you had to go the first round to the home team. And we went in there. And I think that was
spk_0 Sa Young, Shay, Shane Bieber. And it was basically a separation between his glove coming up and his
spk_0 leg coming up. There was more separation, less separation somewhere in there. And they had him.
spk_0 G went to right center off him. I think maybe twice. But so if he if he can of limit that, if he
spk_0 can avoid that, this is his first start against them this season. To me, I think the advantage is
spk_0 with the jays in the pitching matchup if they don't have something else on them.
spk_0 Okay. If Aaron Judge doesn't have a big home run in game three and the Yankees fall,
spk_0 how do you look at this post season and his post season legacy so far? I know he asked to win a
spk_0 World Series to solidify things as a legend in New York. He hasn't done that yet. He's got nox.
spk_0 He doesn't look as lost as he did last year. But you do have to deliver in the big moments. And
spk_0 also he doesn't look like the same guy. I mean, the expectations are sky high. They should be.
spk_0 He's the best hitter in our generation. But he's not the same hitter in the post season. And it's
spk_0 not like we're getting a game or two here or there. I mean, he's liked some pretty serious post season
spk_0 time. Listen, you talk about legend. He's going to be a legend either way in my book. Whether he
spk_0 wins a World Series or not, he's just going to go down as a person that hasn't won a World Series
spk_0 for the Yankees. And that's it. There's been a bunch of Don Mattingley to name one who is an
spk_0 absolutely phenomenal who was an absolutely phenomenal baseball player and manager. You shouldn't
spk_0 think of this guy any different. He's an absolute stud. He's hitting the ball. It's a totally
spk_0 different errand judge. Yeah, he hasn't popped one out and eventually that will come with more games
spk_0 if it happens. But there's no doubt in my mind. He's one of the most prolific hitters we're
spk_0 going to ever going to see in our time. And there's no other way you should think about him like that.
spk_0 Everybody talks about the playoffs. I remember one we were in there in 17.
spk_0 Kratty, how good was he? He was absolutely filthy. So, you know, it's hit or miss. But this year
spk_0 he's doing just fine. The power numbers just aren't there. What are you going to do?
spk_0 If he hits 800 for the rest of the post season, he hits five more dingers and they lose in
spk_0 game seven of the World Series. It won't matter. It won't matter. If he wants to be legend status,
spk_0 like is Don Mattingley, legend status like the guys who won all those championships. I would say he's
spk_0 probably a tier below. If he wants that legend status, I don't think he wants that legend status.
spk_0 I think he just wants the World Series ring. But if he wants that, does not matter what he does.
spk_0 It only matters what the team does. You're talking Jeter, Pissata, Mo,
spk_0 anybody with a ring. We're talking Yankee history. We're not talking baseball history.
spk_0 Baseball history is going to go down as an unbelievable hitter. We're talking Yankee history.
spk_0 How he's going to be remembered. Let me ask you this question. If you had to pick a right
spk_0 fielder, the most Yankees from when they first started it now, who's going to be your right fielder?
spk_0 You mean best ones? Yeah. If you're going with the all-time Yankee line of his Aaron Judge in
spk_0 that lineup, how about that? Sorry. Yep. Okay. That's legend to me though. No. Okay. I'm not
spk_0 thinking. I think he would have to be now. Who else? I'm trying to simplify it here for me.
spk_0 That's all. Here's the thing. He's a 1,000 OPS guy. And in the playoffs in the last several years,
spk_0 he's more like a 750. Yeah. Sure. Sure. That matters. The power numbers have dropped. Yeah. In the playoffs.
spk_0 Of course. You know, nobody's denying that. The team is built for him to look like he did in the
spk_0 regular season. And if he doesn't, the team is not the same. Last year, they had the Giancarlo
spk_0 stand is on another planet card this year, not yet. So if you don't get that, they're waiting for
spk_0 judge. Base is low to that opportunity. You watch judge all year. You're like, walk minimum.
spk_0 Maybe double or a grand slam. And he doesn't come through. And I know it's just 1AB. But my point is
spk_0 overall, Krats, if he doesn't look like a beast as he does in the regular season, it does cost the
spk_0 Yankees. They're built for him to be a 1,000 OPS guy. playoffs, regular season. I know it's
spk_0 tough for pitching in the playoffs. But still, I would say when you look at his A-Bs,
spk_0 they're nice A-Bs, it's just not what we usually see from him. Exactly. Yeah. But we can't
spk_0 meld like the conversations into like, does it matter to the Yankees? Yeah, it matters.
spk_0 Like it definitely matters. But we're talking about his legacy. To me, I think it's a little different.
spk_0 And one at bat, one at bat doesn't change people's minds because Emanuel Kloss A would say
spk_0 Judge had a pretty decent at bat against him last year. Kind of a big spot. Went Oppo rocket
spk_0 down the right field line. Like, there's, it's not one at bat. To me, it's not the results. It's about
spk_0 does he get a ring or does he not get a ring? We're talking about legacy. Does the team need him to do
spk_0 well for them to get a ring? Yes. But I think there are two different arguments or discussions.
spk_0 And I don't want to keep going at you, which we don't. I'm just for my opinion, I think his
spk_0 legacy is always going to be there, no matter if he wins a World Series with that help, of course.
spk_0 But he's got 62 home runs, you know, besides Barry Bonds. He's the only one to ever
spk_0 reach that plateau. So he's the home run leader in a single season. He's a guy that is feared
spk_0 all over the land. We might never see a guy of this stature. You know, Shohei O'Tani, I feel like
spk_0 he's in a different world because he pitches. But for me, he's my number one pick overall after
spk_0 Shohei O'Tani pretty much everybody. So and last thing I had a brain fart. Luke Garrick was a
spk_0 first baseman. I just had a brain fart there. He would be my pick at first base guy. That's a good
spk_0 pick. My bet. Luke Garrick. Good ball. That's a good pick. All right. Pinch drive territory will go over
spk_0 this. I think Derek's been, you know, a little bit critical because he's like judge us to show up
spk_0 in those spots. That's how this team built. I'm sure I'm trying to bring the message over from
spk_0 Derek. You can listen more to Derek. He's post and pregame shows. He's got post game shows like he
spk_0 does all season long and he'll have one after the Yankees and the Blue Jays to remind her we're
spk_0 doing hours after that first game. The Tigers and the Mariners. A Philly special.
spk_0 That's NBC Philly reported John Clark who's a who I've been around in plenty of times. He's
spk_0 always got his phone on with video but he did capture the Durand entrance and we talked about this
spk_0 a little bit last night with Kratts. They were booing not Durand. They were booing life. They lost
spk_0 both games at home. They've lost a lot of playoff games at home lately. What was the score of that
spk_0 doing? They were down right when he came. Yeah, they were down by a few. See, I think all
spk_0 closers, if you're not up in the game, they shouldn't have the lights and they get off the mule.
spk_0 You don't want the pop and serve. I don't I don't want that, especially when you're down. You
spk_0 could play your favorite song. You know, that's not that bad for Ed when go ahead, but you don't
spk_0 have the lights and everything else. In my opinion, if it's the fans for okay, you want to do it for
spk_0 the fans, but when you're losing, coming in a game, play the music, trying to get everything going
spk_0 and work from there. I like that. I like that. I think this is why Philly fans booed Santa Claus
spk_0 because when they're mad, that's what they do. They boo. How about Josh Neller having a kid?
spk_0 That's a baseball fan. That's awesome. But he's back. So we don't need to talk about any BS with
spk_0 the with the kid at this time and is he going to miss the game? He's back. He's going to make the
spk_0 trip initially. He's in the starting lineup for game three. And if he wasn't then miss the game.
spk_0 He's having a kid. Listen, life comes before anything else. I don't care what you say. You cannot
spk_0 plan 90% of the time. There's stuff you could do to plan things. You want to bring beautiful
spk_0 children into the world any day, anytime. Game seven. I don't really care. Children first. Yep.
spk_0 You don't miss. You don't miss the birth of your child unless something unless you can't get
spk_0 there for some reason. Like he had the chance to be there. It's awesome. He had the off day. Like
spk_0 yeah, you missed the game. Sorry. Sorry, fans. Maybe fans should look at it too and be like it's okay.
spk_0 It's okay. Unless you're a craftsman, you have five kids. The fifth one you can miss. Right.
spk_0 Right. Eventually he didn't tell one of them. Yeah. Well, yeah, we had a girl. We got a boy. Just
spk_0 let me know. Make sure it's called me. Send me a picture. Yeah. Call me in person. Yeah, but
spk_0 good for Josh and the fam. And yes, if that delivery was happening during game three, you would not
spk_0 be there, but he will be there. Ft. Family. Let's talk about super power. Error. Crafts is a proud
spk_0 super power customer. And he's going to give us more of the personal experience. But I'll just
spk_0 start it with this. You ever go to the doctor and docs just like, oh, drink more water. Are you
spk_0 looking for more data? More of a game plan? Super power does that for you. They give you the
spk_0 experience that athletes get with teams. Lab, the lab results came back for me. Now it's streamlines.
spk_0 Everything that I kind of had an idea of. But now it really lets me focus on the things that I'm
spk_0 deficient in the things that I'm that I that I have good good lab test results from. And I could
spk_0 go in that direction. I want to go nutritional guidance supplement suggestions. You name it.
spk_0 There's so much more info to check out at superpower.com. And you can lock in the special $199
spk_0 price while at last after you sign up. They're going to ask you how you heard about them.
spk_0 Ft. us port the show your biology decoded your blueprint activated with super power.
spk_0 Let's say better than box scores. We had a great live post game show recap reactions to the
spk_0 brewers and the cubs. We have that on our YouTube channel. We did that right after the game with
spk_0 rats and Kevin Polar. We're going to give you more now. Here is the aftermath, the day after the
spk_0 hangover for the Chicago Cubs right now because they're one loss away. I was right now. They're
spk_0 season being done. So what did you expect? And then what did you see? I expected them to not give up
spk_0 that many runs in the first inning of the first game. And I expected them. I expected to be a low
spk_0 scoring game. I said, yeah, I did just because of what I saw before against the Padres of nasty,
spk_0 nasty, meaning good. I expected a low scoring game. I expected the Cubs to find a way to win one of
spk_0 those games. You go up three nothing. I was watching my oh my god. Suzuki just had an absolute
spk_0 missile. And then Mr. Olvon said, time out. I'm just going to pop fly to left. Oh my, wait. Oh my
spk_0 god. It's gone. Three run Jimmy Jack. And next thing you know, I'm like this game's over. It's
spk_0 a you can't give up the three run homer in the first. And then another three run homer in the
spk_0 bottom of the first and think like you're in the other Cubs. You're like, God, we just gave my best
spk_0 punch and they just went bang, bang, bang. That was it. Is this down ining real in your mind?
spk_0 You know, when you hit that three run homer, even though it's in the first inning, if you get past
spk_0 that bottom one, does that mean anything? It does. Yeah. The reaction right after the next
spk_0 inning, at least the momentum, at least the momentum is I'm not saying it's game over. But that's
spk_0 like, okay, all right, we're here. All right, let's go. So sorry, Kratzi, jump. I don't know.
spk_0 The whole the whole shutdown ining thing. I'm kind of it's kind of like home field advantage.
spk_0 Is there a momentum thing? Yes, but the shutdown ining. If you need, if you need to be like,
spk_0 I got to get up as a pitcher. I got to get up for this inning. The boys need me to shut it down.
spk_0 You're cooked. You're cooked. It's not going to happen. Like you better, you better be going out
spk_0 there to shut everyone of them dudes down every single pitch that you're throwing. So
spk_0 is it big for the hitters? Yeah, it's big for the hitters. If you go one, two, three, boys are like,
spk_0 man, I just took my batting gloves off. I'm ready to get my second at bat already. He,
spk_0 it's like seven minutes ago, we were just hitting that. That's helpful.
spk_0 I think having the miz throwing enough strikes is going to be helpful for Milwaukee. That was
spk_0 nasty. And where they were all talks about his second half. I mean, his festival was electric.
spk_0 It was just absolutely by you. And then a slider at 95, what is that? Why does anybody want to play
spk_0 anymore when it's at 95,000 hours slider? It's not a slider. It's just a cut fastball that's
spk_0 filthy. God, at 95, that's five mile an hour difference. And it will get you out in front. How,
spk_0 how are you out in front of 95 mile an hour cut slide? Yankee doodle, Dandy. I don't know. I'm just
spk_0 he was nasty. And you know, he threw upwards of 40 something pitches, but God,
spk_0 two walks four strikeouts. I don't care. You go walk the whole side. You're still not getting
spk_0 anybody in that was really good showing by him. He's got to throw enough strikes though. That is
spk_0 the key, right? I mean, he threw just enough. There were times you're looking and you're like, okay,
spk_0 is he going to find the zone enough? I don't remember if it was like second or third AB maybe,
spk_0 he's facing someone he falls behind three oh, and I'm like, oh, are we just going to get a
spk_0 string of misses here? But he corralled it. He did corralled. If you watched,
spk_0 Contreras just stayed in the middle of the plate. He would back up some sliders. He would throw
spk_0 the fastball up about his own by accident. He just stayed in the middle of the plate and it was like,
spk_0 let's just let's just throw heaters, which is a which is also like that's scary to do.
spk_0 You had a one run lead after the Contreras home run and you're like, all right, I guess, you know,
spk_0 he's he can't give up a run here. We don't want him to tie the ball game up. They were like,
spk_0 I think our stuff plays in the whole zone. He hung a he hung an indoor curveball. He hung a
spk_0 curveball inside for strike three to Danesby Swanson. That was 89. But Todd, you're going, oh my
spk_0 gosh, this guy's nasty. This guy's so nasty. You're looking at the numbers. My thing is, I don't see the
spk_0 swings coinciding with the numbers. Maybe I'm wrong and it was a great outing. I don't know how much
spk_0 confidence Pat Murphy has going forward. I wonder if he's like, all right, did it got it
spk_0 out of the way. I'm wondering what I'm wondering what's going to be what his next adding will look like.
spk_0 Hmm. Okay. I mean, he might not have one if they end this series pretty quickly, but
spk_0 you know, going forward, say if he's taken on the Dodgers, it'll be interesting. It's a pretty
spk_0 patient team too. All right. So, Britteroli just put out this big manager, Carousel update,
spk_0 a few of the notable notes. Former Big Lee catcher Nick Hunley, the favorite for the opening with
spk_0 Giants. Let me spoke about that the other day. Albert is the favorite for the Angels gig, but
spk_0 Tori Hunter and Kurt Suzuki are also in the mix. She said, Rocco Baldelli, Brandon Hyde, and
spk_0 Davey Martinez want to manage again. Colorado's waiting to hire their front office leader first.
spk_0 Then they'll figure out manager. Lots of other notes on here. Anything stick out. So far,
spk_0 do you guys in terms of the openings? Not the openings, but the guys who are free agents.
spk_0 I love that for Rocco Baldelli. I love that he got out of there because the org wasn't behind him,
spk_0 especially like what I've heard from his players about him. What I've heard from people
spk_0 have talked to him about it. Like to me, I think he can slide into one of the few jobs that
spk_0 they need to win or right away. And people in Minnesota will be like, oh, he's not a winner.
spk_0 He created a bad environment for them to lose. No, to me, I think I don't know if he has those
spk_0 connections with Alex Anthopolis, but going down to Atlanta, somebody with experience like that
spk_0 knows how to deal with a team, but also knows, hey, you know what? We're just going to kind of go and
spk_0 put those boys out there and let them play. And a chip on your shoulder manager, I think, is a thing
spk_0 too. Obviously, he's going to do what he does, but there's Rocco Baldelli one-on-one. And I know
spk_0 he can't control the game, right? But if he goes to the Braves, for example, Crats, I mean, he could
spk_0 have a very good team from the jump. I don't know if that's going to happen, but I like the call.
spk_0 Derek Fowley, who's the head of the front office for the twins, said something along the lines of,
spk_0 this is on me. And I'm like, you're a nice guy, but it's not on you. You just put it on Rocco.
spk_0 It's not at all. If it was on you, you wouldn't have jumped out. You put it on Rocco, baby.
spk_0 It's on me, but we fired him. That's not how it works. Listen, there's two names right here.
spk_0 I'm a little biased because I really like these two guys. You got. I want my boy,
spk_0 Flesh, Ryan Flourity, to get a managerial job. I come up with the ranks with him. We had the same
spk_0 agency together. We actually roomed together. He's a clown, but he's a smart human being. And he
spk_0 really knows the game of baseball. He's been coaching for a long time now. He knows ins and outs.
spk_0 He's a computer whiz now. Maybe not back in the day, but he knows his stuff. And George Lombard,
spk_0 man, this guy is a truly remarkable dude. His wife went to Rutgers, so I got to give him the
spk_0 upper hand too. Just putting it out there. Yeah, I'd love to see those two guys get a shot.
spk_0 George Lombard. Larry. It's a big stuff.
spk_0 Flourity. Rockies. My call. Oh, that would be lovely.
spk_0 Ft. Fam. Another reason why you should love arena club is the grading system. So you recently
spk_0 pulled a slap pack. And then you said, Hey, it's not great. It's great at for me. They gave you an
spk_0 8.5 out of 10 on your auto whitey Ford card. And then they show you all the details of the grading
spk_0 system. It's very interactive within the app. And then you're done. If you want to sell the card
spk_0 or you want to know what it's worth, you've got it. It's like getting taken to school on cards.
spk_0 And I think that's the coolest part of it. If you're young or old, you understand, hey,
spk_0 this is how it gets deciphered all the way through. It shows you the numbers and how they
spk_0 went through it. I think that's the coolest part about this whole thing. And then you can keep
spk_0 it traded or sell it to whatever you want. And it's so much more efficient to do this through
spk_0 arena club, whether you're ripping a pack, there's the slap packs, buying a card, selling a card,
spk_0 grading a card. It's all there for you. We talk about it all season long. arenaclub.com
spk_0 slash f o u l is where you can go to give it a shot. 20% off your first card purchase arenaclub.com
spk_0 slash file. Use the code file at checkout and get 20% off. Hot corner. Literally. We're talking
spk_0 about the play that changed the Dodgers Philly series. The wheel play. Tell me about it. You're
spk_0 a third basement. How often does this happen? How does this get drawn up this way? Was the
spk_0 month the right move? Give me everything. This is going to be maybe maybe one time out of the whole
spk_0 year that you get that opportunity and do it right, Cratsy. It's got to be put on either by the
spk_0 bench coach or a player. You talk about it. You go over this in spring training and you
spk_0 I don't know about you, Cratsy, but you barely do it during the year. And if you do, you do it half
spk_0 ass. You're going through the motions. You just want to get it over with. They ran it to perfection.
spk_0 Max Muncie crashes. Mookie Betz breaks the late. Castiano doesn't get off the back.
spk_0 Back more. He needed to get off more there. I thought his momentum was stuck at second.
spk_0 It was a perfect throw. Freddie Freeman getting a second base. So stock couldn't get to second.
spk_0 Everything was perfect. Once he threw the third, I'm like, oh my god, it's not a force. What is he
spk_0 doing? Boom. Got him. It was a monster play. It was gutsy. It was balsy. And it worked perfect.
spk_0 The bump was great. You can't blame him for bumping the third base. That's what you're taught to do.
spk_0 You want the third base. I'm going to crash. There's nobody's ever at third base. Unless it's a
spk_0 tie game. First and second, you're trying to get the out of third. Phenomenal job. And this is why
spk_0 this is a world series caliber team. They've done it before and they took a chance. Guess what?
spk_0 What happens? They don't get the guy out of third. Oh boy, they could tie the game and then you go
spk_0 to extra innings. Whatever. Phenomenal play as a third baseman. I get goosebumps. I get fired up for
spk_0 because it never works. And that worked. And it wasn't even a force play.
spk_0 And they have to in this situation. We know that Mookie called it. He's got to know his personnel
spk_0 because the best to punt play with a runner on second, where the first or second or runner on
spk_0 second. It's the punt play that we use all the time when I coach high school is I want the
spk_0 pitcher to crash the third baseline. The pitcher has to be athletic. The pitcher has to be trustworthy.
spk_0 But he has to crash the third baseline hard. Brian Butterfield came up with this. Third baseman stays
spk_0 home. Shortstop. I mean, the shortstop covers second. Second baseman goes to first. First baseman
spk_0 basically covers the mound. And you're leaving first base vacant because of what Todd said.
spk_0 You bumped the ball to third. If the first baseman's crashing the mound and the pitchers crashing
spk_0 to third baseline, you're making the pitcher pick that up. They ran it opposite where Vesia really
spk_0 wasn't even going to be in this play. Taking the ball out of the pitcher's hand is genius.
spk_0 I think what's overshadowed here because Mookie called the play. Mookie did a great job at disguising it
spk_0 and making up two steps on Castellano so you didn't have a jump. Is how hard that play is for Max
spk_0 Muncie to come running in, plant and turn and fire it. Todd knows there's plenty of times when
spk_0 you run this drill and that ball's bonnet where stop bonnet it. I'm waiting. I'm waiting until Edmund
spk_0 or whoever was playing second at that time gets the first and I just get the out at first. We're good.
spk_0 Nothing hurt. We're just going to stay away from a sack fly with a runner on third.
spk_0 We have Max Muncie talking about this. So I think it's worth the 30 seconds. Here it is.
spk_0 You know, wheelplay is not something we traditionally do. But as soon as we got in that situation,
spk_0 me, Mook and Tommy and me, we started talking about hey, we got to try something different here.
spk_0 We can't just play standard bump play and when when Todd came out with pitching change,
spk_0 we talked to him about it and he was all on on board. And you know, I'm going to credit Mook,
spk_0 because it was his idea. We got to go, you know, he's saying we got to go wheelplay. We got to go
spk_0 wheelplay. And so we talked about how we're going to do it. And you know, we got executed to
spk_0 protection. How big could you feel the momentum change getting that out at third base?
spk_0 Yes, huge. You know, you get that you get that guy off second base, you get it out there.
spk_0 And you know, it's just that changes everything in that inning.
spk_0 That took me back to like, I don't know when you're in your plan. Whatever sport you're playing.
spk_0 And there's that one guy who's like, oh, we got to do something different. We got to do the
spk_0 wheelplay, guys. We got to do the wheelplay. And you're like, I don't know, man. Well, dicey.
spk_0 It's like, damn, he hasn't been a shortstop for very long either. It's not like he's been doing
spk_0 this whole life. Just a math. Yeah. Freaking athletes. That's all. That's why you bring on winning
spk_0 players. I mean, obviously the Dodgers have a lot of money and resources, but so do many other
spk_0 teams. And they seem to be in these spots over and over again. Crats. Cratsy, before you,
spk_0 tell me I'm wrong here was that it seemed like it was home field advantage there, man. I felt like
spk_0 just by looking at some of the bats, swarver and and Harper, it just seemed like they're swinging.
spk_0 They were trying to hit a, you know, eight run homer instead of just trying to drive the ball.
spk_0 The opposite way to me, I felt like if they weren't going, the crowd wasn't in it as much.
spk_0 Oh, I mean, if they weren't going, no, no, you're right. If they weren't going, the crowd wasn't in.
spk_0 Philly Philly fans are definitely. They're not fair weather because they love their team,
spk_0 but if they didn't go well, they're not going to be like, you know, everybody hears the
spk_0 Turner, the trade Turner like standing ovation. No, no, no, no, like this is postseason. The fans are
spk_0 panicked. Is it the Philly, are the Philly's panicked? I don't think they're panicked. I think they're
spk_0 trying to do the same thing that they've done all year. I think they run into some brutal pitching.
spk_0 And I agree with bunting there. And I want to know if topper called it because
spk_0 they brought in Bader to pinch hit. So if you're bringing in Bader to pinch hit,
spk_0 is he a home run guy? Is he driving the ball with a runner on second to be able to score a guy?
spk_0 I don't know. I agree with the bun. You are giving yourself so many more chances of scoring a runner
spk_0 from third than you are from second. You have to get a hit. How many hits did they have at that point?
spk_0 Especially coming off the bench. It's to me, it's to me, there's no no brainer on the bun.
spk_0 Great. I think so. You had the right person doing it. He didn't do anything wrong. He
spk_0 bonted it the perfect time. Maybe if you saw him crushing a little bit more, you come back and
spk_0 slash, but at the same token, it's the playoffs. Everything's going to be blown up more. They just
spk_0 made better execution. You tip your cap and you're like, shoot, what could I've done different?
spk_0 Nothing. They made an execution apply and they did it to perfection. Do you think the Phillies have
spk_0 a chance? I mean, they know, I don't think they know. I don't, I think the Dodgers are just
spk_0 playing out of their minds right now. And it's playoff baseball, which they've been doing. So I
spk_0 shouldn't say they don't have a chance, but it's not, it's not going to be, it's going to be very
spk_0 hard for them to come back to Philly and get another win. I would say the Phillies have a chance
spk_0 because of how we thought they were going to win the series anyway. They have really good pitching.
spk_0 They're pitching. It isn't going to decline. The Dodgers have only scored in one inning.
spk_0 The seventh inning in game one, the seventh inning in game two. So they've done a good job of
spk_0 keeping them off the basis, but it's not going to happen at all for Philly. If it doesn't come from
spk_0 posties and legends like Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, guys who have had those big moments and
spk_0 can carry their team. If you can't keep those two guys off the basis, the Dodgers will not win.
spk_0 If they continue to do what they're doing, game three is going to be a cinch form.
spk_0 Crats, last thought here, looking back, is there anything that you would have done differently
spk_0 as far as deploying your pitching staff? Ranger Schwarber is going to piggyback Aranola in game three.
spk_0 He's been a big game pitcher for them and then also Derand pitching late in this game when they
spk_0 were already trailing by quite a bit. Would you be super ballsly and try and pitch them to just
spk_0 keep the score the way it is? Give me anything that you would have done and I know it's easy to look
spk_0 back. That maybe is a little bit less traditional than what was going on here.
spk_0 You mean changing what they've already done or what they're going forward and going to do?
spk_0 Going forward, if you think Aranola and Ranger Schwarber has combined, have to give you six innings,
spk_0 I love starting Nola because you can't go Ranger and in the elimination game, you get any kind
spk_0 of traffic and go, no, we're done. We're done. Nola is going to pick up the rest of the innings.
spk_0 Nola is the wild card. To me, Nola comes out, he gets one or two guys on.
spk_0 Bang, you might go right to, you might go right to Kirkering, you might go right to strum
spk_0 in that first inning and it will be something that Nola could give you for,
spk_0 but Nola's biggest problem has been he's had one blow up inning.
spk_0 Is that inning going to be the first inning and then the fillies are down three nothing?
spk_0 That's the risk that you take, but to me, I think you take Nola first and then you go Ranger.
spk_0 And Aran, he's going to give you two innings. It might be the seventh and eighth because
spk_0 he might have to face his pocket during that time and then they're going to get another inning
spk_0 and they're going to figure out who's going to close it out. It might not be somebody,
spk_0 it might not be somebody you think that's going to close the game out if the fillies are winning.
spk_0 Let's talk about Craig Breslow at his exit press conference. He said, quote, we've talked a lot
spk_0 about how this window of contention is upon us. Other quotes, every team gets better if you can
spk_0 bring in a starter or develop a starting pitcher who can pitch at crochet's level, talk about
spk_0 wanting to get another starter this off season. They're going to be as aggressive as they can to
spk_0 try to chase that down. You can say it. You said all you want. We just want to talk about the
spk_0 throttle. We just want to do the best we can because we have a team that can win. If I'm the Red
spk_0 Sox and I just or if I'm a Red Sox fan and I just got Craig Breslow in after having clearly
spk_0 high bloom is done what he's done and he's kind of built this team. I want to hear Craig Breslow go,
spk_0 we're going to bring a winning team to this city, World Series or bust for me. I'm willing to
spk_0 put my name on the line and I hope everybody in the organization front off or front office
spk_0 players, everything gets in line because I'm the one that leads this charge. I have backing from
spk_0 ownership. They're going to make me spend they're going to get me to spend money. We're going to
spk_0 do this. The World Series is ours. Yeah. That's for GM. Crats for GM. Yeah. Crats. I'm coming with you
spk_0 too. Let's go. Yeah. I mean, no, listen, Steve Cohen did it and failed. That's true. That's a guy
spk_0 that put his jawless chips in and failed. He's going to be the talk for years to come until they get
spk_0 back into playoffs and do some sort of damage. But they also have a weird approach on starting
spk_0 pictures right now with free agency, right? You're a big money team and then you're like,
spk_0 I want to dance around starters because I don't believe in the big boys. That's that's the big
spk_0 problem. That is a problem. That's a big pride. That's that's a foundational issue that they have
spk_0 right now, right? That's coming from their president of baseball operations and you might have to
spk_0 change that. You're going to have to because you're going to spend on everything else and then you're
spk_0 like, we're going to take lottery ticket risks, right? With our pictures and hopefully that works out.
spk_0 You know, and Peter Lanzo is not coming back anytime soon. Look at the Yankees. So they got Max
spk_0 freed. I mean, to jump off the rest of the year. The Yankees got Max freed and someone came out
spk_0 recently and said the next option for them was Griffin Canning. I mean, Griffin Canning had a nice
spk_0 month in change and got hurt with the meds. Look at the difference there. Huge. Where are the Yankees
spk_0 without Max freed this shoot? It's trouble. Hey, we've got a post game show. It's the Mariners and
spk_0 Tigers facing off for game three. We'll see you after that one and we'll talk about what happened.
spk_0 And then after the Yankees match up with the Blue Jays, Derek Lewandowski's Pinch Drive territory is
spk_0 the spot. Even if you're a Blue Jays fan and you're watching right now, I mean, you clearly don't
spk_0 like the Yankees. Are you going to be on that one? Why are you pointing at yourself? Oh, yeah. Oh,
spk_0 okay. I didn't know that. Aircraft on Pinch Drive territory tonight to either pump up Yankee fans
spk_0 after a big game three win to vault themselves back into the series or to put them to bed for the
spk_0 2025 season and Blue Jays sense we'll be tuning in at that point. It's part of the FT network. Go
spk_0 check it out. Cratsets. What are you wearing today? I'm wearing it for days and honestly,
spk_0 it's hard to see, but it's the players weekend hat. You see the different logo that they used
spk_0 for players weekend. They used to do fun stuff for players weekend. What is my Brewer's hat?
spk_0 To me, I don't think there's a hotter team. Brewer's Blue Jays right now and I didn't pull the
spk_0 Blue Jays hat out. So will you get a ring if one of those teams win?
spk_0 For what? You're just in love with them and I just think you should get a ring.
spk_0 Eight of the ten eight of the ten teams that were in playoffs or ten of the 12 teams I played for.
spk_0 So I really have a lot of homerism. Either every game you have a homerism.
spk_0 Except for the Dodgers Reds, I didn't have a I didn't have a dog in the fight,
spk_0 but everybody knew who was going to win that game. That series was over before it started.
spk_0 Oh sorry. Sorry. Sorry. I mean, there was one ining per night where it felt a little tight and that
spk_0 was it. That was when they brought their bullpen in. That was when the Dodgers brought their bullpen in.
spk_0 And kind of treated it like spring training where they were trying them.
spk_0 They were like, nope, still can't throw nope can't throw strikes. Yeah, we're going to go with our crazy plan.
spk_0 That actually was huge for them. It was. Yeah, learning really.
spk_0 We're really thinking about it. Learning curve of who's got the Kahone's the pitch in big game.
spk_0 You don't want to do the wildcard series because you could get bounced. But if you do and you're the Dodgers,
spk_0 they did kind of figure some things out and say, yep, out of the circle of trust.
spk_0 You're out of the circle of trust. Okay, Rocky Suzuki's our new closer. Things did change a little bit there.
spk_0 Just just a little rehab. They rehabbed against the Reds.
spk_0 We have. Hey, it happens. We have Dan Wilson on the chess match with AJ Hinch in the ALDS.
spk_0 The first full season for Wilson managing the Mariners. He said, quote, I don't know how to play chess.
spk_0 So I don't know how to use that as a metaphor. But he's right there on every move.
spk_0 There's an experience, different here. AJ has been managing for a minute now.
spk_0 Dan's new to the party. He's a long time big lead catcher and he's been in organizations for a while.
spk_0 They love him out there. But there's a difference in experience in post season experience between these two.
spk_0 No doubt. It might not be playing chess, but he knows his team and understands their capabilities.
spk_0 He knows his pitching staff. And that doesn't mean he has to be a wizard of putting a right guy in at the right time.
spk_0 Just be a manager and be yourself. That's it.
spk_0 There's less for him to do to the Tigers roster. Yeah, it feels structured.
spk_0 I got Harris, the resident baseball officer, GM, whatever he is.
spk_0 Crats to have all of these subs. Like there's just a lot more going on with the entire organizational strategy.
spk_0 The Mariners have a lot more. Hey, this is our guys playing every day.
spk_0 Dan Wilson's like, Cowrally, JP Crawford, Holyo Run Vegas,
spk_0 A.F. Hennie Oswara's JP Crawford. You're going to hit nine. Go play shortstop. Let's go boys.
spk_0 Way to game.
